New D ‘n’ B Releases
EXIT008 Black Pocket Vol. Three – Steve Spacek Presents Exit Records 12″ Vinyl
The unsung king of UK soul returns with third installment in his popular Black Pocket series. This release is the sampler before the eagerly anticipated album. “Boungie” finds Steve showing his full vocal range with a slice of falsetto soul laid over a cracked beat of Fela fueled funk. The flip finds D-Bridge going to work on “Reverible Top“, a track that was initially to be found on Steve’s “Space Shift” album. This reworking has all the hall marks of D-Bridge’s hardened soul sound; often imitated, never bettered. “Black Pocket Vol. 3” is the perfect starter to a Dutch Pot full album of stewed UK soul.

b Steve Spacek – Reverible Top Ver 2 (D Bridge Remix)

REDSEAL001 Late Night Special – Eveson Samurai Red Seal 12″ Vinyl
Samurai Red Seal is launched this week with 2 sublime tunes from Eveson. The label has been created as an offshoot to New Zealands Samurai Music label to release deeper, subtler, but still potent slices of Drum and Bass. Eveson offered these 2 tunes for the Red Seal imprint and of course we jumped at the chance as the quality was impeccable as always with this talented producer. With releases already under his belt for Creative Source, Good Looking, Deep Soul Music, Spearhead, Critical, 31 Records, and of course his own label Channel 82, the flow of beautiful music from Eveson has been plentiful. We are proud to be able to welcome Eveson on board at Samurai. ‘Late Night Special’ opened Evesons recent cover mix CD for Knowledge magazine ‘The Smooth, The Deep, & The Deadly’. The perfect opening tune for those wanting to set a vibe of soulful composure, this tune oozes with emotion. Flip over to ‘Solstice’ and we have another jagged slice of funk drenched melancholy from this master moodsmith. These tunes have had DJ support from Calibre, Marcus Intalex, Lenzman, Doc Scott, Redeyes and many more. The Red Seal journey begins! Look for further releases on the label from Luca, Calibre, Hiten, Tokyo Prose and more.

EAST081 Cheeba – A Sides Eastside Records 12″ Vinyl
After holding down the controls since 1989 Eastside label head A Sides consistently tours the globe laying down sets in over 40 different countries worldwide. He still manages to find time to lock himself away in the studio and keep his creative output Consistently flowing. This release is a fine example and is the first in a series of A Sides releases leading up to the release of his up and coming second solo album due to hit the streets this winter. We set things off here with the dub inspired “Cheeba” which moves neatly with it’s percussive groove wrapped with a deep bouncy sub line, original step and sound clash style stabs to compliment creating a big dancehall vibe. Strictly for the head nodders! On the flip you will find “One Love” which is aimed purely at the floor. Plain and to the point the beats shuffle nicely why the bass stays minimal punching through the mix. Things get deep midway with old school style bleeps and dub style vocals as the beats roll on. One for the dj’s! Both track have received good support from major dj’s in the scene and have been featured regularly in sets by Goldie, Bailey, Randall and Marcus Intalex. Forthcoming in 2009: East 82 – A Sides & Makoto – Spacetrain / The Final Fugutive East 83 – Eastside / C.I.A collaboration – Trigger Happy (A Sides Remix) / What U Dont Know (Total Science Remix)

TRIM012 Feed The Culture EP – Various Trust In Music 12″ Vinyl x 2
The “Feed the culture EP” delivers hot vibes from some of the scenes most vibrant actors. Aeph is a dj and producer from Rome currently situated in London. His track “The Dogsick” starts out with cinematic strings and sounds that build and morph to a funky stepper. The wicked blend of jumpup and techstep in this tune brings together the best of both worlds. This track has already caught a lot of attention in exclusive dj sets… watch out for Proktah´s remix of “the dogsick” coming soon on Trustinmusic! Rregula & Dementia need no further introduction as they go from strength to strength with their releases. We are happy to release another gem from their labs. On “Obfuscate” they team up with hot-as-fire newcomer Smooth from Slovakia. The result is a real crowd rocker in massive sound quality and a heavy hook. A sure shot that won´t leave a dancefloor empty. After the huge success of the “Here To Fly” remix, Misha is on his own this time and provides a fresh and unheard neurofunk tune with “Deserts Of Time”. Soaring, vibrating and buzzing beats, stabs and sounds create a very headstrong atmosphere that sucks you in. A quite different tune with an earthshaking bassline and sparkling effects. “System Fuse” is a techstep tune that reminds of classics of this genre while bringing together the funk and the technique of these days. Dabs gave Aenimals original a remix that proves that he isn´t dealt as a promising artist for no reason. A menacing electronic soundscape matches with shuffled bass stabs and rolling beats for a very danceable and hypnotic darkside tune. DJ support by Chris Renegade, Apex, Subterra, Miss Redflower, Nphect, Proktah, Kryteria etc.

TDPV006 Thought Criminal / Back To Basics – Temper D Temper D Productions 12″ Vinyl
SIDE A – Temper D – Thought Criminal: The second solo Temper release sees TDP once again diversifying its sound away from the hardcore techno sound and into the more mature funky territory of Thought Criminal and Back to Basics. Slower, funkier, and bassier, this release is all about doing the simple things well. Driving, hard hitting 2 step drums underpinned with big bass with no frills.SIDE AA – Temper D – Back to Basics As you’d expect this is a matter of stripping down to the basic sounds of drum and bass, creating a track with a lot of space and a big clean sound. A look back to how drum and bass sounded years ago, this is one for the bass heads.

BRIG013 The Greatest Thing – D Kay & DJ Lee Brigand Music 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. We would be lying if we said we weren’t a bit bias when it comes to all things D.Kay, so it should likely come as no shock or surprise that when asked the question ‘Do you think D.Kay’s newest 12” out on Brigand is a hit?” the answer that we have no choice to reply with is a resounding YES! The deep, low end bass of ‘The Greatest Thing’, with DJ Lee, has just enough grit to it rock the damncefloor as welll as Radio 1. The percussion on this one gets an A+ for sure, with an honorable mention going to the double claps. Lastly, a half time breakdown always does a track good, and this one is without a doubt no exception. Raw.full joins D.Kay on ‘Sequential Circuit’ but this one is a 180 of the flip – tearing amens, hard hitting bass make this one an amen smasher – and it’s this tracks completely different direction that make not only it, but this 12” in general, solid all around. D.Kay does a great job at bringing it rough. Fact.

ARGCD02 The Incredible Adventures Of Kenzolika & Quetzalcoatl Among The Air Castles – Blasta Argon Records CD
Blasta met Kenzolika, Kyiv’s dubstep princess, in November 2008. It all started with a coincidence – the owls were falling, and they keep falling now. Blasta is a musician based in Vaska, St. Petersburg, Russia. Each tune on the album is filled with pure sweet emotions. Feel the tension in “Your Dub Delay”, a poignant cosmic dubstep anthem with vocals by Blasta. It doesn’t matter if you are drinking the “Black Muscatel” wine, drifting through the clouds inside a “Zeppelin Nacelle”, or just chilling and dancing slowly with beautiful girls inside the “Cosmic Lounge”. “This LP is something that has popped up from nowhere and is to be one of the best dance album’s I’ve heard in years, tracks like ‘Cosmic Lounge’ & ‘Black Muscatel’ are strong power plays from myself in the clubs and have had people singing with joy to the melodies or clenching their hearts with emotion – sumthing you don’t see in the clubs these days anymore due to the lack of good music played by the top DJs. Other tempo’s on the album shows the talent that Blasta really has with music making…….This album WILL be remembered for years to come!!!!!!” – Heny G “The tunes are just snapshots of your feelings.” – Quest “This is as deep & sexy as it gets. HFT008 Just For You – Untold Hotflush Recordings 12″ Vinyl
Barcode: 5055317200662 Following up on his first Hotflush EP earlier this year and his devastating remix of Toasty’s “The Knowledge”, Untold returns to Hotflush Two with his third release on the label. Reputed for his truly unique production style incorporating creative sampling, crunchy percussion and relentless bass pressure, Untold’s “Just For You” bleeds with energy. Taking a 4/4 direction and throwing back to the tribal stomps and piano stabs of earlier rave tunes, it simply destroys the dancefloor. On the flip, Roska, the hottest property in London’s UK Funky scene, takes it down in tempo with a rolling bassline and his trademark grooving percussion. One the most influential producers in UK music today, with a slew of releases in the pipeline, Roska is well known for his percussive style, distinctive bass and “Roska” vocal drops. His remix of Jamie George’s “Wonderful Day” has been making huge waves lately, and his productions have infected clubs all over the UK and on the London pirates. DJ support from Scuba, 2562, Ramadanman, Appleblim, Joe Nice, Incyde and many more.

PIPS007 Justify – Ramadanman & Appleblim Apple Pips 12″ Vinyl
Appleblim first met Ramadanman and Deapoh (of Barefiles.com) at FWD>>, DMZ and various other dubstep nights when they were barely old enough to get into the clubs. Blim picked up Ramadanman’s debut release on Deapoh’s Bare Dubs imprint and started spreading it across dancefloors in a healthy pasting. A friendship was struck up. And when we first heard ‘Humber’ we were floored; the phasing synths, rolling riddim and deep subs summed up everything we love at Apple Pips. This boy is on fire at the moment with house, funky, drum n bass and dubstep all getting the Ramadizzle touch. A studio session in Dorset between Blim and Rammles resulted in the deep house and Italo influenced track ‘Sous Le Sable’ out now on Will Saul’s Aus Music imprint and ‘Justify’, a 140 BPM jazzed-out techno steppa with an AWSOME Detroit-style house rework from Will Saul and Mike Monday …sublime!

EX7001 Yin Yang – Excision Ft. DZ EX7 12″ Vinyl
No doubt the majority of you will have already heard of Excision, one of the leading lights of the North American dubstep scene. His studio mixes have received over 60,000 downloads from one file sharing site alone, while his Rottun Recordings label regularly tops the sales charts, stacking up thousands of sales for each release on Beatport alone! Recently his official remix of Pendulum’s ‘Showdown’ brought the sound of filthy dubstep to the masses and has clocked up over 120,000 plays on the band’s Myspace page. Meanwhile DJs such as BBC 1Xtra’s Mistajam have been all over his signature sound. With so much attention from clubland and the media alike, Excision thought it was time to start a new imprint, geared to release the very biggest of the tracks in his record box. Teaming up with Infectious PR who will be managing and promoting the label on his behalf, Excision is ready to kick off EX7 (pronounced Ex-Seven, for those not in the know) with a pair of downright bangers. ‘Yin Yang’ featuring DZ is straight up LFO based dubstep at it’s finest. Featuring an ambient intro that lulls you into a false sense of security before smacking you round the face with a bassline so big it could be seen from space (that’s a ridiculous thing to say, don’t think we don’t know how ludicrous our own press releases sound). This track is also rumoured to appear on Snoop Dogg’s forthcoming ‘Dubstep LA’ mixtape, so watch out for some serious commercial crossover business. Flip over and ‘Obvious’ takes a surprisingly less obvious approach than you might think. Drawing out electro influences and blending them expertly with Excision’s unique hard-hitting style ‘Obvious’ is packed with energy for the dance floor but with plenty to keep you interested at home. Anyone who likes to mix up electro with dubstep should be slipping this into their sets.

HENCH009 Who’s The Hardest / The Shivers – Eddie K Hench 12″ Vinyl
Introducing the first 12” from Eddie K on the HENCH imprint – two chunky slabs of dubstep are in order from this young, talented Bristol-based producer – this 12” is already a big favourite of Caspa and where this man leads, everyone else follows, so enjoy, and expect more big things from Eddie K in the coming months.
WHO’S THE HARDEST is first up, staying true to his D&B roots, Eddie K brings us some fresh, fruity jungle flavours, with ‘Who’s The Hardest’. With a ragga vocal sample and repeated clicking of a trigger in the background – get your gun-fingers ready for this one, dubstep soldiers – as the tune smashes into the drop with some heavy bassline action and hard-hitting beats. Bringing the jungle influences into the dubstep sphere, ‘Who’s The Hardest’ has a very strong presence about it – so, beware cowards! AA.THE SHIVERS Flip over, for something a little more serious that will definitely give you ‘The Shivers’. Kicking off with a bold, brash opening, orchestral strings, and booming beat, the Dr Who-style synth lead, and faded ominous vocal sampling, are spooky and atmospheric. The tune almost twists into the drop with a sudden drum roll spasm, and, as the sci-fi vocal sample repeats, “this is a journey into music and sound”. With a pounding beat and classic sci-fi effects, ‘The Shivers’ is a fantastic piece of badness. Already a favourite of Caspa’s, as well as big support by other big dubstep players, including: Plastician, N Type, Hatcha and Rossi B, get hold of this as soon as you can – it’s going to be a massive hit. www.myspace. com/djeddiekuk

MEDI015 Dark Path – Goth Trad Deep Medi Musik 12″ Vinyl
Finish copies. Sickness from Goth-Trad on Mala’s label, with perhaps his best twelve to date. ‘Dark Path’ on the A is an exercise in dub technology, thick slabs of bass overlaid with eastern melodies and mad FX. Percussion and snares are treated with heavy delays, pinging around like auditory hallucinations, building a framework upon which to hang the wistful chords and gentle flute topline. The flip is just as involving, stabbing wind samples and off-kilter hats readying you for sub undulations, runnin beats and mental bendy midrange noises. (Words C/O diccon IDJ Mag Issue 116)

RAMP022LP One Foot Ahead Of The Other – Zomby Ramp Recordings 12″ Vinyl x 2
Very limited edition Finish copy. Once upon a time, there was a band called The Cure, who had a front man named Robert Smith. Robert was an emotional being, who was always looking to test his boundaries and search out new experiences. After touring the Germany in the early 80’s with his band of eyeliner encrusted over-emotional Goth-men, Robert began a non-sexual but intensely intimate relationship with Florian Schneider, front man of Electro forefathers, Kraftwerk. The unlikely couple decided to experiment with the then new science of gene splicing. After a few horrific failed attempts, they finally managed to successfully cross their DNA into the vessel of a baby boy. Months past, and it became disturbingly apparent that they two men, who at the time were at the peaks of their careers, had created a being of pure evil. They decided to enlist the help of the 4’2 purple sex-pest Prince to drown the young baby in a sea of colours and tears, and try as hard as they can to move on with their lives alone, ever trying to forget the horrific experiences the child had graced upon their lives. For many years, the baby’s soul circled the earth, crying pixels and watching women get undressed in locker rooms and stuff, for he is just a soul, and invisible to the human eye, and can get away with that kind of thing. The child found out there was a way to come back from the dead in some kind of Hellraiser type puzzle themed ritual, and hark, the boy (who was now a man) did indeed rise from the dead, and yes, he did once again walk the earth with the sole intent of wrong-doing. That boy is Zomby, and this is his new EP. Full Vinyl, CD & Digital release Sept 7th

HF023 Sketch On Glass – Mount Kimbie Hotflush Recordings 12″ Vinyl
Mount Kimbie have carved out another superb foursome for Hotflush, and once again the music is just as comfortable in the hiphop or electronica realm as it is dubstep. Folksy melodies and ducking piped synths swoop over garage cheek and serrated bass in opener ‘Sketch On Glass’, before ‘Serged’ takes us deeper and darker with its anti-quantised beats, spring reverb drips and surgically-altered vocals. Flipside, an epic sonic vista in ’50 Mile View’ makes way for delicate instrumental RnB before the introverted 2-step bleep of ‘At Least’. (Words C/O diccon IDJ Mag Issue 116)

After the Moody Boyz epic dubstep fix of ‘God Smiled’, the dancehall tune-up of ‘International Broadcaster’, and Kode 9’s funky style workout on ‘Yellow Tongue’, this latest episode in the Lee Perry bespoke remix series adds yet another twist to the musical path, with a hair-raising interpretation from Horsepower Productions. Seeping into halflight zones of bruised ambient dub, over the course of six minutes ‘Exercising’ builds like a distant tropical storm, it’s dense clouds gathering ominously on the horizon while Lee Perry’s shamanic spiritual abstractions add to the sense of heavy weather ahead. Built from similar strands of the low end gene pool as Kode 9 & The Spaceape’s ‘Sine Of The Times’, Horsepower’s brooding view of ‘Exercising’ discards dubstep’s recognised rhythmic frameworks in favour of a largely beat-free excursion, relying instead on swelling subs and oscillating bassline pulses for it’s unstoppable low tempo momentum. Tapping congas, echoing woodblocks and skeletal skittering noises dart insect-like across the mix, while the droning tabla and reverbed melodic guitar figures of Adrian Sherwood’s original production maintain an air of dread occidental mystery. With an equally massive no-vocal take on the flip, this is a simultaneously skin-chilling and oppressively close body heat raising journey to the heart of darkness, and yet another must-have release from the ever mighty On-U Sound.

HDB022 Wind It Up – Mark Pritchard Ft. Om’mas Keith HyperDub 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. Mark Pritchard is a highly respected electronic artist whose extensive pedigree of solo and joint productions includes names such as Harmonic 313, Global Communication, Reload, Jedi Knights and Link. Om’mas Keith is a member of the cosmically sleazy Sa-Ra Creative Partners. Their inspired collaboration on ‘Wind It Up’ took shape in mid 2008 and is finally being released on Hyperdub after building a strong following on dubplate, igniting audiences on dancefloors across the planet. ‘Wind It Up’ synthesises some of Hyperdub’s recent tricks into a bubbling compound of Mark’s pressurised electrofunk, and the futuristic off-beat synth-hop shuffle of Om’mas, with the essential catalysing X element of the Sa- Ra don’s gravel-voiced lyrics. In high DJ demand since the start of the year, ‘Wind It Up’ is a fun and forward-looking dose of transatlantic synergy that’s as unique as it is danceable. Reception to the tune in clubs worldwide has been explosive, and it’s already firmly established as an anthem at 1 Xtra DJ Benji B’s hype Deviation nights. Add in the flipside Freak Mix, which raises echoes of Goblin and John Carpenter’s tingling synthetic atmospherics, plus an instrumental rub, and the result is a hugely anticipated release.

So, you think you have a hard life? You don’t know hardship. Imagine having to deal with a severe bi-polar personality disorder. Not only this, but you are also the vestal chosen by GOD to be his voice on earth. Can you even begin to imagine that kind of pressure? Well this is what DECLAIME has to go through every single day. Not only does he deal with all of this, but he also manages to be a crazy-voiced west coast badass emcee. To add even more pressure, the trendiest beat-monger of current times, Stephen “FLYING LOTUS” Bingley has laced said emcee with his best beats since 1983. 2009 starts here.

In the late 70’s, a young boy was surgically attached to an Atari 2600 using primitive medical procedures by the U.S. government, and then hidden in a massive conspiracy thing like what happens in films and stuff. Upon hearing his plight, we found that boy, who is now a man, and he has only gone and made some tunes!
