NONPLUS002 Watching You – Instra:mental Nonplus Records 12″ Vinyl
Instra:mental present the second release from their Nonplus imprint after the hugely successful Nonplus 001 ‘Wonder Where’ / ‘No Future’. This release consists of two tracks from Instra:mental. Again, the A side contains the vocal talent of frequent collaborator dBridge, and for the B side they switch up the style into what can only be described as Dub Techno. a) Instra:mental ‘Watching You’ stands up to the quality levels set by Nonplus 001 and continues the fusion of original vocals, Detroit influenced chords and their trademark tight percussion. Ice-cold robotic vocals and heart-warming chord stabs will make the hairs on your neck stand on end Listen after listen. This tune is a timeless piece of music that no amount of jargon can justifiably explain. If you like the recent output from these guys then you will love this tune. aa) Instra:mental ‘Tramma’ is a 4/4 offering made of elements from Dub, Techno and DnB but is hard to pigeonhole into any particular genre. For descriptive purposes well call it dub techno. Once again we can hear their influences from all things electronic, and here we have an example of the variance that we expect from Nonplus and a glimpse of the vision that Instra:mental have for the future of this label.

EXIT016 Melodies feat Mike Knight – Spectrasoul Exit Recordings 12″ Vinyl
Spectrasoul provide their debut single on Exit Records, which consists of two tracks written especially for the label. These two producers have proved their talent time and time again with a string of releases over the past two years and are definitely ones to watch in 2009/10. ‘Melodies’ is a clever combination of melancholic synth samples, used courtesy of legendary minimal electronica producers Isan, featuring the vocal talents of up and coming American RnB singer Mike Knight. An unconventional beat pattern makes this track stand out from the crowd and provides a refreshing break on the dancefloor. ‘Insignia’ comes with similar vibes on the B side, starting off with emotive pads and vocal snippets, dropping with low down sub stabs over another unconventional but highly effective beat. Both tracks have had support on the highly acclaimed autonomic podcasts (www.club-autonomic.com) and are receiving heavy rotation from DJs such as dBridge, Instramental and Dubstep pioneer DJ Skream, which highlights the versatility of these tracks and the potential to cross into Dj sets from different genres.

OSR022 Sweet Spot / Radiate – Alley Cat / Vaccine Offshore 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. Alley Cat “Sweet Spot” Perhaps D&B’s most underrated female DJ is back in the studio again. Offshore is proud to host her first production resurfacing- “Sweet Spot”. A very progressive and forward thinking piece of music. Some would say that it fits into the current ‘minimal’ sound being championed by Instramental and D-Bridge, but why pigeon hole it? Vaccine “Radiate” Yet another edm vixen, Vaccine flips this girl power 12″ with a Dubstep offering. “Radiate” is both sparkling and beautiful, yet a bit grimey underneath. It is truly a breathtaking affair with lovely strings and ethereal samples. Already praised by Mary Ann Hobbs and Kid Drama, this track is sure to be remembered.

NONPLUS001 Wonder Where / No Future – dBridge / Instra:mental Nonplus Records 12″ Vinyl
After arriving back on the scene in 2006 Instra:mental have fast gained a reputation for re-sharpening the cutting edge approach to making music. Taking influence from their love of electronica and incorporating it into a fresh and unorthodox style, they have managed to create a distinctive and inspiring sound. In 2009 they have decided to start their own label in order to give them a focused outlet for their music, and also the music of other artists who they feel are on the same path. Quality, longevity, freedom of expression and nonconformity are some of the ideologies behind their new label, Nonplus+ Records.
a) dBridge ‘Wonder Where’:
‘Wonder Where’ by dBridge is a fine example of how the label means to continue. dBridge is hot off the back of his debut solo album “The Gemini Principle” in which he first gave us glimpses of a talent which he shares with his brother Steve Spacek as a vocalist. Since then he has been busy continuing to lay the foundations of his own respected imprint Exit Records. If his voice sounds familiar, perhaps you have heard the track “These Words” on which he featured on Martyn’s highly regarded debut album “Great Lengths”. Wonder Where is quite unique in the way it is regularly getting played in the sets of DJs from many genres. Drum n bass dj’s such as Marcus Intalex, to soulfull house Dj’s like Benji B, and also Dubstep pioneer DJ Skream has regularly been finishing his sets with it. Dubstep legend Burial has also seen fit to include it in his upcoming DJ Kicks mix. This track is fast becoming an anthem among many different genres and is sure to be featured in many a dj’s sets for many years to come.
aa) Instra:mental ‘No Future’:
Instra:mental have chosen their own track “No Future” which is ironic considering they obviously have a very big future ahead of them. Already licensed to the highly acclaimed Commix Fabriclive.44 this track (and most of their music) manages to resurrect the ghost of early electronic music with the essence of artists such as Model 500 and the legendary Detroit techno movement of the 80s and early 90s. Using original hardware drum machines and synthesizers to create the analogue warmth and groove which was synonymous of those times, they bring elements back to the music which have been somewhat lacking in recent years and laced it with all the benefits of modern music making advancements. This track will be loved and cherished by those who appreciate good music and will play just as well in the comfort of your own home as it would in a packed out dance floor.

ARGLP02_3 The Incredible Adventures Of Kenzolika & Quetzalcoatl Among The Air Castles Part 3 – Blasta Argon Records 12″ Vinyl
Blasta met Kenzolika, Kyiv’s dubstep princess, in November 2008. It all started with a coincidence – the owls were falling, and they keep falling now. Blasta is a musician based in Vaska, St. Petersburg, Russia. Each tune on the album is filled with pure sweet emotions. Feel the tension in “Your Dub Delay”, a poignant cosmic dubstep anthem with vocals by Blasta. It doesn’t matter if you are drinking the “Black Muscatel” wine, drifting through the clouds inside a “Zeppelin Nacelle”, or just chilling and dancing slowly with beautiful girls inside the “Cosmic Lounge”. “This LP is something that has popped up from nowhere and is to be one of the best dance album’s I’ve heard in years, tracks like ‘Cosmic Lounge’ & ‘Black Muscatel’ are strong power plays from myself in the clubs and have had people singing with joy to the melodies or clenching their hearts with emotion – sumthing you don’t see in the clubs these days anymore due to the lack of good music played by the top DJs. Other tempo’s on the album shows the talent that Blasta really has with music making…….
“This album WILL be remembered for years to come!!!!!!” – Heny G
“The tunes are just snapshots of your feelings.” – Quest
“This is as deep & sexy as it gets. Blasta delivers one of the most beautiful dubstep albums ever made.” – L-Wiz
“This album is immense, breaking down boundaries in dubstep… pure vibes” – J:Kenzo
“Sophisticated dubstep music providing food for your soul! Pure jazzed out boogie! Blasta is sick!” – Distinction
“Blasta reconcilie le dubstep et la soul music. Un retour aux sources efficace!” – Von D
Blasta gives birth to a brand new sound, true future music. Music that is cooked from the most delicious rave, dub and jazz flavors ever created. This album gives you a complete feeling of tenderness and love, taken from the winter and fitting perfectly into the early spring.
a Blasta – Black Muscatel

BRK012 Cave Rave – Geiom & Spamchop Berkane Sol 12″ Vinyl
Geiom + Spamchop find themselves in a distant mysterious land ravaged by sub zero temperatures. Across the hills they can hear faint echoes of deep bass..Crunching through the snow towards the source they discover a party in a massive cave full of odd rock formations and sparkling crystals. The ravers seem slightly unhinged but happy, dancing to strange future music that reminds our explorers of uk garage without the bling…Spamchop records some of it into his phone for future analysis – when the pair get back to the studio ‘Cave Rave’ is the result. After the beach jam which spawned ‘Eyl Booty’ (brk011) Geiom is making preparations to leave when one of the pirates shows him a video camera with footage of their most ambitious raid – the capture of the Sirius Star oil tanker – Geiom likes the idea of this ramshackle bunch going head to head with the greedy oil barons. He agrees to make the pirates something they can pump out while they make their way across the Indian Ocean – ‘give us something with a lot of bass – we kitted out our speedboats with some tasty subwoofers’ is the request. Geiom also includes some audio from the footage for good measure. ‘Sirius Star’ is going to be rocking boats, cars and raves everywhere for some time to come…

ROGUE STATE – LOGICAL REGRESSION

TWISTED – INFECT
Hailing from Germany and part of the Dutty Dubs crew, Twisted is starting to make real impact on the international scene. The super slick mixdown is what first attracted us to him but it was this phenomenally heavy weight track that made us decide to release Twisted. Bass face time!

DP009 Acton Dread – Rusko Dub Police Records 12″ Vinyl
Repressed due to Demand! The most talked about producer of the moment returns for more dub wise dubstep, Rusko brings the vibes on his 2nd dub police outing The most talked about producer of the moment returns for more dub wise dubstep. The first “acton dread“, inspired by rusko’s London borough, kicks off with a summertime digi-dub bounce. hypnotic flutes and wailing vocals give way to a pulsing sub bass, reggae shuffles and catchy themes, showcasing the dub-style production that’s made Rusko a favourite of djs like skream and radio 1’s rob da bank. Listen carefully for London underground announcements lurking in the background of the tune! Flipping over we see rusko on remix duties for local boy Caspa. This toung in cheek refix sees rusko adding his trademark trance sytnths and bumpy sub bass to the lilting Japanese flute melodies, space age effects and jungle percussion. “Would you like to play your flute?”!! A track that will be filling dancfloors for years to come.

Rip roaring bass that will tear your head off and shit down your neck, and beats so tuff they should come with a health warning. Repressed due to demand.Caspa & Rusko – Soulful Geeza: Kicking off the next chapter in the LTT series is this deep track Caspa & Rusko and isn’t’ what you would quite expect from these two, whose tracks are usually all out dance floor dominators. Warm pads, trance esq. synths, and an steppy beats really set this one apart from the typical sound these two are so well known for. What better way to kick things off? Unitz – Wait A Minute: Things couldn’t get more different on the flip, as Dub Police’s very own boy wonder Unitz steps up with this sickening track. The only way I remember being able to express my feelings, as a child growing up in Canada, was to play on my old Casio keyboard. Even though I was so young, in those moments I realised music was always going to be the way I expressed myself.

After years of experimenting I realised I had to find my own sound, the most crucial part of being a musician. I don’t see the point of trying to imitate other people’s sound. I cant imagine ever feeling satisfied knowing it wasn’t really my expression, but me trying to impersonate someone else.

My real passion for music developed when I moved to New Zealand and I started my first band aged 11. Some of my fondest memories are of the lunchtime concerts I would put on with my friends, jamming on the guitar never felt better. I found my greatest influences including Radiohead, Massive Attack and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

Fast forward a few years and I discovered Drum and Bass, in particular the early sounds of Goldie, LTJ Bukem and Krust. I experimented with the art of mixing, a passion that has only grown. There’s something special about seeing a room full of people moving to music that I love. This pushed me into production, I figured why not try making the music that makes people move.

My initial plan for creating the album was to have no plan. I wanted to experiment with different techniques to see what I could create. This meant that the album was never going to be a straight up Drum and Bass LP.  My vision of the music progressed into wanting to make something people would want to listen to at home or on their headphones as they go to work in the mornings. At the same time it had to translate to the club environment.

I aimed to create music that doesn’t fit the usual mould of Drum and Bass, yet has its ties and influences from it. When listening to the LP in its entirety, I hope that listeners will be given an insight into the way I see my surroundings. Maybe people can relate, everyone shares certain similarities in the way they feel about their life and what makes them feel certain emotions.

The title ‘’Live for Never’’ came to me when I was thinking about how human nature has developed into people feeling they can get away with anything, that our lifestyles will remain constant no matter what we do. To me this is false, the world seems to be getting darker and darker by the day, people will realise this only once it’s too late.

Nothing lasts forever and nothing lives forever.

The collaborations with dBridge, Instra:mental and ASC were natural, we share similar insights to where we feel music should be heading and what we listen to. I feel privileged to be working with these guys. In my opinion it has given ‘’Live for Never’’ a wider appeal and it opened myself up to new musical possibilities.

The music on my debut album was written to express many things at once, some of it is happiness crossed with feelings of angst, love songs and regret, but you can be the judge of whether it moves you.

consequence2

Consequence was introduced to d-Bridge via mutual friends whilst touring  New Zealand and after listening to some of his music, dbridge knew that he had found an artist with the potential to create an album suited to the labels ethos of writing music from the heart and not necessarily directed at the dancefloor.
d-Bridge had just started his Autonomic podcast series alongside Instra:mental with the intention of showcasing and developing artists who were thinking outside of the conventional Drum & Bass box. Consequence has become a core member of this crew who have gone on to secure an Autonomic residency at the world famous Fabric night-club and turn many heads from outside the genre such as Laurent Garnier, Skream and Actress to name a few.
The album contains collaborations with fellow Autonomic artists Instra:mental, ASC and d-Bridge and is a good representation of the versatility which Autonomic is becoming renowned for.
Each track is a piece of music in its own right, but the whole album is best listened to as one long piece that flows harmonically from start to finish through different emotions and  atmospheres.

New D ‘n’ B Releases

EAST082 Spacetrain – A Sides & Makoto Eastside Records 12″ Vinyl
You better believe it: A Sides collaborated with Makoto combine soulful vocals with rolling breaks, shake them with A Sides heavy trademark bass and make them work extremely well on the dancefloor. A quality that a variety of top DJs have long noticed. A Sides’ tracks appear regularly on playlists of big name cats like Grooverider, Fabio, Goldie or Andy C There is no B Side to A Sides.A Sides has been producing music since 1990 and has released over 500 tracks to date. The prolific Londoner he is, he established his own label Eastside Records in 1996 and since then has remained a consistent figure within the Drum’n'Bass scene. With 500 down and still counting, many other labels such as Metalheadz, Valve, True Playaz, Bingo, Innerground, Reinforced, Ganja or Hospital have been blesses with slices of Sides.

BRIG013 The Greatest Thing – D Kay & DJ Lee Brigand Music 12″ Vinyl
We would be lying if we said we weren’t a bit bias when it comes to all things D.Kay, so it should likely come as no shock or surprise that when asked the question ‘Do you think D.Kay’s newest 12” out on Brigand is a hit?” the answer that we have no choice to reply with is a resounding YES! The deep, low end bass of ‘The Greatest Thing’, with DJ Lee, has just enough grit to it rock the damncefloor as welll as Radio 1. The percussion on this one gets an A+ for sure, with an honorable mention going to the double claps. Lastly, a half time breakdown always does a track good, and this one is without a doubt no exception. Raw.full joins D.Kay on ‘Sequential Circuit’ but this one is a 180 of the flip – tearing amens, hard hitting bass make this one an amen smasher – and it’s this tracks completely different direction that make not only it, but this 12” in general, solid all around. D.Kay does a great job at bringing it rough. Fact.

a Dkay & DJ Lee – The Greatest Thing
b Dkay & Rawfull – Sequential Circuit

If you havent heard of Dub Elements yet then get to know cause this will rock dancefloors all over the world! Plate 2 sees the return of mumblz but this time ganging up with Switch Technique! M-ATOME015 All The Hate – Axiom M-Atome Recordings 12″ Vinyl
A. All the hate Axiom in his unmistakable style delivers ‘All the hate’, a monster tune, lead by a bass driven onslaught with hard hitting beats and menacing stabs. AA. She’s dead On the flipside lays a more intricate track, but it doesn’t take long after an eerie intro for the beats to drop in nastiness fashion, with clatterring percussions and grimey bass, showing once again all the strength of Axiom production talent.

a Axiom – All The Hate
b Axiom – She’s Dead

DW01 On A Mission – Smooth, Rregula & Dementia DrumWise 12″ Vinyl
DrumWise is not new in the field of drum and bass and first release is only a step on the path. On a mission tells what essentially its all about. With rhythm sections coming in from the start, this collaboration with the rising Slovenian hope Smooth and already established Dementia and Rregula, gives no space to breathe. Intro disco feeling, goes to crunchy uncompromised bass in and after the dropdown, and with disowned vocal in the back it creates a proper dancefloor smasher. On the other side, Slave from Smooth, reprogrammed by legendary Nookie is deeper than deep and crossed with huge bass line presha.

a Smooth, Rregula & Dementia – On A Mission
b Smooth – Slave (Nookie remix)

AT005 Pray – Survival Audio Tactics 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. Survival has been very busy of late, yet still finds time to keep his own imprint Audio Tactics rolling on in fine style.“Pray” is all about the bassline! Sick rhythm flows throughout, as the bass swamps the room. Survival has really carved out a knack of rhythm & bass in a hypnotic way. “Good to see” is a more dubbed out affair. Subtle piano keys and warm strings glide over minimal beats and vocal snippets. Fans of Fabio should check this.

a Survival – Pray
b Survival – Good To See

Finish copy Hold on to your seats.. Citrus is back with another grand LP done by none other then Citrus veteran JADE. Stationed in Hungary and ready to rock the dancefloors with his VENOM LP. Check out this first piece of menacing dirt in the form of Phace remixing the ever so sick Cryptic. The Phace boys take this tune to another level and infuse their signature future funk vibes that we all know and love. No midrange mayhem but this this time their subbing the place up giving it the extra bit of depth it deserves. Flip it over for some disgusting vibes on “My World” Jade shows why he’s doing this LP in style by taking the jade sound up another notch. Feel the darkness engulf your ears while it stays simple but hits with deadly accuracy.

LS008 ‘SPL’ Album Sampler – SPL Lost Soul Recordings 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. Lost Soul is the HQ of SPL aka Sam Pool. A producer unlike the most producers who are daring themselves to this sound. He has proven himself as a master in Dnb, Dubstep and even Hardcore and now its time to unleash Mr Pools debut album likewise dubbed SPL. For the first sampler its up to wipeout to clear the floors of any fainted hearted who dares to try and think they can handle it.. The hefty techno vibes roll deep inside this track while the breakdown stirs up things for the dubstep crew. A perfect production for those crossover sets. All Over is something different and isnt one of the lightest tunes to handle aswell. SPL infuses the jungle vibes into this one and adds his own melancholic sounds to it to give it that grunge edge thats signature for any SPL track.

a SPL – Wipeout
b SPL – All Over

LAB007 Revelation – Truth Aquatic Lab Records 12″ Vinyl
LAB007 – Truth Revelation Lost at Sea 12″ Vinyl and digital released mid July 2009 The next Aquatic Lab release touches down in the form of Revelation and Lost At Sea, backing up last release with two more fresh productions from New Zealand’s Truth.Revelation is a complex arrangement of layered percussion and broad soundscaping techniques. This track has to be heard to be believed, perfectly proportioned production coupled with a devastating bassline making it primed for the draw back. On the flip, Lost At Sea arrives at another crossing point between dubstep experimentalism by expertly fusing dub chords with deep kickstep syncopations. Riding over ridiculous amounts of rolling sub weight, dislocated vocal effects create a dusty jazz style that’s finding favour with a forward thinking audience. Massive Plate.

Turn over to check JSL’s 2009 mix of Raw Love, the original first appeared on Kraken exactly 2 years ago under JSl’s alias ‘RUF’. EAR011 The Blues – I.D. & Skinnz Earwax 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. Earwax steps a little deeper for their next outing on vinyl with 2 killer tracks from new names on the dubstep scene -production duo Skinnz & I.D. ‘The Blues’ is a deep and tribal affair laiden with warm muffled pads and gut wrenching soudsystem subs. The heavily swung conga workout that forms a backbone to the rhythm is both hypnotic and energising and quickly conjures images of a late night tribal gethering around a voodoo bonfire! As the track works into a breakdown it resurfaces, touched with a gentle melodic layer akin to Mala circa 2005. Quality dance music for your mind and feet! Flip for ‘Issues’ as the duo show in one release the breadth of their skills with this soulful roller. Combining a driving 2step beat with playful congas, a diving bassline and muted housey stabs – this rhythm swings from dark smokey corners into skanking, grooving party vibes.

BASSHEAD003 Killing Time – Noah D & Einstein Basshead Music 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy promo .Hailing from Portland, Oregon Noah D has already established his name as a Drum & Bass producer with numerous releases on labels such as Renegade Recordings and Dieselboy’s Human Imprint. More recently he has been making noise in the dubstep scene since dropping Examination of Time with Babylon System on Argon in 2008. Since then his profile and workflow have increased and he has numerous releases on labels such as Subway, Earwax, + Thought and many more. After sending us the original instrumental of Killing Time Noah explained he was interested in working with Dancehall artists in Jamaica and Einstein’s name was mentioned. We were into the idea so Einstein’s manager was aproached and he agreed to work with us on the project. After long negotiations Einstein got into the studio in Kingston, Jamacia and layed down the vocals then sent them back to Noah who added the finishing touches creating a dancefloor monster fusing Einstein’s aggressive vocals and Noah’s crisp production and deep bass. Once that was done we called in one of the drum and bass scenes most popular producers “Break” to perform remix duties. He did Killing Time justice and his heavyweight remix has been a favourite of dj’s such as Andy C, Dj Marky and Friction. Our aim at Basshead Music is to amalgamte styles and cultures into musical forms. Expect the unexpected

HENCH010 Drumstick – Giant Hench 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy promo. Marking the tenth release on HENCH, enter production trio, Giant – composed of Enei, Ekta and Nersa – these boys have been killing it on the dubstep front from the heart of St Petersburg for the last couple of years now. Here they bring us a bit of their dark Russian vibes in ‘Drumstick’ and ‘Swoosh’. A – DRUMSTICK Squeaking synths and vocodered SFX are the order of the day in ‘Drumstick’, and the tune drops into a wobbly b-line number with plenty of grimy beats and retro sounding sampling. Giant keep it stripped back for the rest of the ‘Drumstick’, with great effect. With heavy subs and intensely dark bass, expect to be blown away by the sheer intensity of this ‘Drumstick’. AA – SWOOSH If that’s not enough for you, then ‘Swoosh’ over to the flip for more heavy beats. An alarm siren wails for the first ten seconds, grabbing your attention, before the main beat and wobby b-line kick in and the layers of sound build up. Experimental, with jingling sounds, percussion and vocodered clips, the tune swooshes in and out, focusing on different sounds at different times. Top notch – this is going be beyond big, it’s going to be GIANT!

a Giant – Drumstick
b Giant – Swoosh

REDSEAL003 Ringtone – Calibre Samurai Red Seal 12″ Vinyl
Full colour artwork, and now pressed on 180 gram black vinyl. Drum & Bass music is constantly changing, the ebbs and flows constantly revealing new artists and new takes on this teenage musical phenomenon. There are very few artists today whose name consistently holds its reputation for quality, timeless music. One name that has lead the way for all others to follow for many years now is Calibre. The mere mention of a new Calibre tune spreads gasps of anticipation amongst those who have come to appreciate the genius craftsmanship that has become the Calibre work ethic. To not only be this damn good, but to also be as prolific as this man is, Drum and Bass has truly been blessed with a steady flow of emotionally charged, and inherently deep music from the core of his soul. And so it is with great pride that we present to you two further slices of sonic bliss to add to your treasured collection of Calibre music. ‘Ringtone’ dons the mask and snorkel style and takes you deep into the realms of bass music, while ‘Jackoff’ is a distinct departure from his usual style and has been lighting up dancefloors for all those lucky enough to have advance copies. DJ support has been supplied by every person we have passed these tunes onto. It was decided early on to make this release look as beautiful as it sounds with full colour artwork, and pressings on 180 gram black vinyl.

SUBS007 Logic Gate – Machine Code Subsistenz 12″ Vinyl
Subsistenz is back once again with another 1st for the dnb scene, bringing two peak-time floor peddlers from the freshest collaboration to come out of the subdivision camp – Machine Code aka Current Value & Dean Rodell – Neither of these two producers need introductions to any of the scenes they are planning to manipulate as these two heavy weights of the underground have been outputting quality release after release for over 20 years between them. Now after a few months of working the machines at the Subdivision Studio in Berlin, the stock piled arsenal is ready to be broadcast and inflicted upon the minions. The Machine Code project formed out of a true respect and passion for Techno-orientated dance music and has been personified in this bar-raising first broadcast – Logic Gate … A. Logic Gate is kick-started with Mechanisms, a full-on techno assault that builds from a spine-chilling, vocal-fused pad that is gradually manipulated around a rhythm that pounds the living life out of its tonal timbres. The subtle manipulations in sound are brought to a head when the mechanisms turn to a 4/4-driven bass stomp, giving all insundry a life line to clasp onto … B. Thermal Stress doesn’t let up in Logic Gates mission to remove charred brain cells from its listeners’ dusty caverns. A brutal attack
of constant clinical pressure builds and binds sound scapes to a point of pure audio hedonism. With no remorse for the cranked and perverted – Machine Codes infiltrating has begun – - – Lock Up Your Synths !!!

NZ010 Stone Cold Killa – Soul Intent Samurai Music 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. Samurai Music celebrates it’s 10th release by taking apart the dancefloor with 2 surefire aural bombs from Nottinghams’ Soul Intent. ‘Stone Cold Killa’ grinds in with cavernous heavy breakbeats, while the tone of impending carnage is set with ice cold ambience. A brief pause for the “..you’re a Stone Cold Killer” vocal before the hideously twisted bass riff unwinds itself into a drop that has been known to evacuate glassware from surrounding surfaces in clubs with systems capable of facilitating this tunes full power. The ultimate opening tune we suggest you save this piece of dangerous weaponry for situations that call for the heaviest artillery possible. ‘Conflict’ recalls golden moments in the tech step era with militant stepping breaks and a savagely warped bassline that bounces around with gleeful menace. It’s blatantly obvious that Mr Soul Intent was on a serious mission of hurting dancefloors in the days these two bass heavy monsters were created. We are proud to celebrate our 10th release by sharing their might with the rest of the planet. DJ’s that saw the need to draw for true power have been people like Klute, State Of Mind, Bailey, Eveson, Randall, Kasra, Cern, Phobia, Bulletproof and many more besides…

NONPLUS002 Watching You – Instra:mental Nonplus Records 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy.

Finish copy. Both tracks have had support on the highly acclaimed autonomic podcasts (www.clubautonomic.com) and are receiving heavy rotation from DJs such as dBridge, Instramental and Dubstep pioneer DJ Skream, which highlights the versatility of these tracks and the potential to cross into Dj sets from different genres.

SUBTLE003EP Some Shit Saaink – Macc & dgoHn Subtle Audio 12″ Vinyl x 2
Finish copy. Time to enter the insane, weird, drum-centric world of Macc & dgoHn as the Subtle Audio camp proudly delivers its first artist-album by this pair of not altogether insane East Londoners.Subtle Audio has been pushing Drum & Bass with a slighly different slant for over four years now and this album could well be presented as their mission statement, it sums up the distinctive sound of the label perfectly. Macc & dgoHn favour a breakbeat driven style and they incorporate their beats into ever shifting cinematic arrangements brim full of attitude and experimentation. Individually, their sounds have travelled far beyond the Drum & Bass microcosm and their works have been aired by the likes of Zane Lowe and Mary Anne Hobbs on BBC Radio 1. Aphex Twin is also an admirer and his festival playlists have contained Macc or dgoHn on more than one occasion. Now they unleash a volley of material from their collaborative archive which is set to disarm critics who thought Drum & Bass had run out of rhythms, arrangements and silly album titles. No fear on that, “Some Shit Saaink” is here!

RAMP022CD One Foot Ahead Of The Other – Zomby Ramp Recordings CD
Once upon a time, there was a band called The Cure, who had a front man named Robert Smith. Robert was an emotional being, who was always looking to test his boundaries and search out new experiences. After touring the Germany in the early 80’s with his band of eyeliner encrusted over-emotional Goth-men, Robert began a non-sexual but intensely intimate relationship with Florian Schneider, front man of Electro forefathers, Kraftwerk. The unlikely couple decided to experiment with the then new science of gene splicing. After a few horrific failed attempts, they finally managed to successfully cross their DNA into the vessel of a baby boy. Months past, and it became disturbingly apparent that they two men, who at the time were at the peaks of their careers, had created a being of pure evil. They decided to enlist the help of the 4’2 purple sex-pest Prince to drown the young baby in a sea of colours and tears, and try as hard as they can to move on with their lives alone, ever trying to forget the horrific experiences the child had graced upon their lives. For many years, the baby’s soul circled the earth, crying pixels and watching women get undressed in locker rooms and stuff, for he is just a soul, and invisible to the human eye, and can get away with that kind of thing. The child found out there was a way to come back from the dead in some kind of Hellraiser type puzzle themed ritual, and hark, the boy (who was now a man) did indeed rise from the dead, and yes, he did once again walk the earth with the sole intent of wrong-doing. MEDI015 Dark Path – Goth Trad Deep Medi Musik 12″ Vinyl
Sickness from Goth-Trad on Mala’s label, with perhaps his best twelve to date. ‘Dark Path’ on the A is an exercise in dub technology, thick slabs of bass overlaid with eastern melodies and mad FX. Percussion and snares are treated with heavy delays, pinging around like auditory hallucinations, building a framework upon which to hang the wistful chords and gentle flute topline. The flip is just as involving, stabbing wind samples and off-kilter hats readying you for sub undulations, runnin beats and mental bendy midrange noises. (Words C/O diccon IDJ Mag Issue 116)

ARGLP02_2 The Incredible Adventures Of Kenzolika & Quetzalcoatl Among The Air Castles Part2 – Blasta Argon Records 12″ Vinyl
Other tempo’s on the album shows the talent that Blasta really has with music making…….This album WILL be remembered for years to come!!!!!!” – Heny G

IME012 Hades – Gatekeeper Immerse Records 12″ Vinyl
Immerse cuts a unique groove these days, releasing original, leftfield music, often dark and uplifting simultaneously. This new Gatekeeper plate falls on the darker side of the fence, but that’s no bad thing. ‘Hades’ is a moody skulker – triangles, pads and trickling sound FX giving way to a thumping bass’n’drum workout, dotted with delayed beeps and cutup shouted warnings. Flipside, the Keeper’s original Skull Disco collab ‘Tomb’ gets a rework, the insistent midrange line slotted into a rock-hard selection ofmilitant breaks, subterranean bass and dystopian mechanical noise. HEK004 Air & Lack Thereof – James Blake Hemlock Recordings 12″ Vinyl
Hemlock proudly introduce the debut release for James Blake; South London producer, keyboardist and live vocalist for Mount Kimbie (Hot Flush). Having grown up “Playing along to Stevie Wonder ‘til the early hours and falling asleep to Art Tatum and Erroll Garner” James’s music comes saturated with fresh ideas. He comes correct for Hemlock 004 with two brilliantly off-kilter, blues and funk inflected bombs. The perfect introduction to his distinct sound. All at once fast, slow, melodic and heavy, and with its feet rooted firmly in the dance, a. Air & Lack Thereof is a beautifully wrong and virulently catchy concoction of razor-sharp beats, bluesy vocal snippets, screaming p-funk synths and distortion-a-plenty that all adds up to so much more than the sum of it’s parts. b. Sparing the Horses goes for a darker, more twisted sonic palette. Layers of reversed horns, deep morphing subs and those distinct vocals again, playing over galloping polyrythmic beats for another unique interpretation of the dubstep sound. Worldwide support coming from Joe Nice & Dave Q Instra:mental, Distance, Pangaea, TRG, Ramadanman, Ben UFO, Rob da Bank.

IME013 Elephants – October Immerse Records 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. Absolute madness from Immerse here, as October is released from his minimal techno day-centre to wreak havoc amongst the dubsteppers.‘Elephants’ is a pretty appropriate name for the A, as bongo loops and ominuous machine noises are summarily flattened by the phasing bass crunch and trumpeting midrange. Add a dash of running breakbeat to the mix and you have a strange yet effective dancefloor worrier. Flipside, ‘Medium’ opts for broken techno stylings, simmering pads and clattering percussion setting the scene for the tense main event. 8/10 [recommended] Review By Diccon c/o IDJMagazine

Robin O’Reilly, better known to the world as Big Bud, made his name crafting atmospheric drum & bass for labels likes Fabio‘s Creative Source and LTJ Bukem‘s Good Looking. In recent years though, it’s been all about his own label, Soundtrax, where he’s released a series of outstanding releases from himself and like-minded producers.

djbigbud

‘Connections’ takes in a breathtaking selection of sounds and moods, all with a breezy liquid-funk-esque tinge to them. If you already know Soundtrax output then you won’t be disappointed with this CD. If you’re new to the label; what took you so long?!

From the soulful vocal ‘Want You So Bad’ to the Eastern influenced guitar plucks of ‘White Widow’ this album has something for everyone and Big Bud fans can rest assured that he’s updated his production to modern standards but kept all the dynamics his music lives for.

Hanuman and Atki2’s Steak House Imprint is going to be the label to watch in the next 12 months. Steak House Records are about to unleash a devastating series of 12”s of pure Carnival fire from both established and up and coming producers.

STEAK 001 brings together the hottest Global Bass talent from the Iberian Peninsula: Octa Push and Mr Gasparov.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

gasparov

Mr. Gasparov is Lisbon’s premier purveyor of Intelligent Bass Music. Using graphics tablets, midi controllers and a synth made from an old McDonalds till point, Mr Gasparov makes intricate, bass heavy dub techno / two step crossovers that will destroy any dancefloor with enough detail to keep the experimental heads attention.

’1975′ is a slow build 2step workout with skittery beats and thumping sub that delivers in all the right places. Think El-B meets Aphex Twin under a tropical sky.

Support From Scuba, Emma Warren, Freak Camp, Conspira.

AA2) Octa Push – Laika Likes It

octapush

Octa Push were formed when Portuguese Bass Music pioneer Conspira challenged producers Mushug and Dizzycutter to join forces and create a totally live dance music project. Their unique fusion of Bashment, UK Garage and Dubstep with other elements like Afrobeat and Techno has put them at the forefront of the Iberian electronic music scene with explosive performances at places like SONAR, Glade, and Fabric. Ai Nadia is a throbbing afro-step monster. Shuddering sub bass and chanted vocals collide to create something very special indeed.

‘Laika Likes it’ combines sweet female vocals, broken garage beats, and pounding bass to devastating effect. This is a tune firmly for the hips.

Support From Buraka Som Sistema, TRG, Jahcoozi, Ghislain Poirier, Ben UFO, Cardopusher, BokBok, Reso, Starkey, Sub Swara.

To be released in Late September 2009 on 12″ Vinyl and Digital download.

NZLP002STrei – 12″ Single Featruing: ‘Thunder Biscuit’ / ‘Innuendo’

‘INNUENDO’ is the debut album from New Zealand’s latest major drum and bass talent TREi. Deftly juxtaposing jump-up dance floor grooves with traditionalist melodic song-writing and the odd touch of Pop arrangement, INNUENDO’s divergent sonic landscape stays grounded through the common threads of decidedly futurist synthetic soundscapes and chest pounding, subwoofer rupturing low-slung bass lines.

Working with the likes of vocalists Lisa Tomlins and Thomas Oliver (of the Thomas Oliver Band) and fellow producer’s State of Mind, Dose, Teknik and Southern Soul, TREi has crafted a cohesive twelve song deep full-listening experience as much driven by hooks and general musicality as explosive drum and bass pressure.

trei-press

Having previously earned his stripes releasing singles through respected international drum and bass record labels like Klute’s Commercial Suicide, DJ Friction’s Shogun Ltd, Black Sun Empire’s Obsessions and featured on key collaborations with The Upbeats, State of Mind and Dose, ‘INNUENDO’ has served as a finishing school of sorts for this singular talent.
Delving into sample driven “Bristol Sound” recalling vibes on ‘Shame’, exploring infectious pop rock style hooks on ‘Lead Me On’ (a collaboration with rising New Zealand rock singer Thomas Oliver), roping in legendary local diva Lisa Tomlins to add a touch of the ethereal to his explosive grooves on ‘Still Remains’ and paying homage to the 90s techno scene on ‘Push’ (produced with Southern Soul), with ‘INNUENDO’, TREi makes his artistic intent crystal clear, in the process proving himself worthy of rank alongside the divergent upper echelons of talent within the international music community.

DJ Support already coming from some of the biggest names in the game including Pendulum, Friction, Ed Rush, Klute, London Electricity, High Contrast, Cyantific, Logistics, John B, Digital, State of Mind, Concord Dawn, Bulletproof, Chris SU and Jade.
