UM010 – Break, Fields, Mako & Villem – Dilligence / My Soul – 12″ Vinyl
Founded only 3 years ago by Mako, the Utopia Music imprint has already made a positive impact on the drum & bass scene with a stable of innovative producers. Next up on the release schedule is a massive tenth release in the form of Utopia 10. The A-side sees a mighty collaboration between label owner Mako, Break, Fields and Villem. With all these guys on the track, you know the bar is set high. Don’t let the chilled beginnings of Dilligence lure you into a false sense of security because you’ll soon be smacked around the head with a bassline that’s verging on psychotic and beats ready to bring down anything that stands in the way. On the flip side, Russian producer Getz carries on where they left off with the rolling, relentless basslines of My Soul. I love how the vocal samples lend a feeling of despair to the music.

WARM023 – Lynx ft. Kemo – Dive Deep In / Shadowlands – 12″ Vinyl
Having a reputation for razor sharp production and always pushing boundaries with his music, Lynx is no newcomer to the scene. With releases on some of modern days most seminal labels, we’re very proud to have Lynx part of the label. With vocal treatments for well respected vocalist Kemo “Dive Deep In” submerges itself in dirty, deep funk. A rock solid half time beat and punishing bass stabs keep the momentum while guitar strings weave in and out. “Shadowlands” features fellow technician Hellrazor in an epic roller comprised of swelling strings, steppy drums and menacing bass.

SUICIDE066 – Mindscape – Martian Chronicles LP Sampler – 12″ Vinyl
Mindscape, is one of the major producers hailing from the thriving drum and bass scene in Budapest, homeland of producers like Chris.SU, SKC, Jade & Zero Method. In 2003 he founded the Mindscape trio, that a couple of years later became his solo project. First picked up by Trace, Mindscape soon became a worldwide known artist. 2007 saw his debut album called ’Black Lotus’ on Citrus Recordings, featuring heavyweight dancefloor smashers like the title track ’Black Lotus’ with Jade, or „Planet X” with Chris.su featuring the legandary Ryme Tyme. The Lp took him to the next level, his ener-gic, yet deep and minimal DJ sets were causing disturbance all over Europe, Australia and New Zealand. During his rich years in the scene he made quite an impact, he worked with, remixed, and was remixed by such illustrious artists as Cause 4 Concern, Gridlok, Break, Audio, Dose, Noisia and list goes on. After having releases on established labels such as Commercial Suicide, Subtitles, Eatbrain, Bad Taste, P51 and Citrus, and being featured on Andy C’s world famous mix Cd “Nightlife – Volume 5″ with the track called “Bounce”, now he finished his 3rd, science fiction themed album called “Martian Chronicles” for Klute’s label Commercial Suicide.

BMT012 – Ed:it & Aldo – Repercussions / Shutter – 12″ Vinyl
Having spent more than seventeen cross-genre years featuring on dance music’s most prestigious imprints, Blu Mar Ten are opening the doors of their own label to a host of fresh young talent emerging from the leftfield of Drum & Bass and beyond. Blu Mar Ten Music (BMTM) is a home for the beautiful and the ugly, the elegant and the awkward, the euphoric and the melancholy. With a growing list of talent delivering a rollercoaster of emotions and armed with a desire to stand out rather than fit in, BMTM is rapidly becoming a label to watch. The third release in this new chapter is bought to us by rapidly ascending drum & bass star, Ed:it. Having already featured on Critical Records and gathering support from S.P.Y., Bailey, Spectrasoul, Break, Enei, Kasra, Skeptical and many more, Ed:it’s gritty and elegant sound mainlines the warehouse soul of classic d&b, serving it up in impeccably sculpted slices. Ed:it debuts on BMTM with three moody & militant circuit-blowers. Shutter: Rushing sweeps of white noise and modulated synths give advance warning of the tsunami of bass washes to come. With its raw energy and perfectly balanced production, Shutter drops a relentless, military-grade groove that’s impossible to ignore. Repercussions (feat Aldo): Reminiscent of early TeeBee productions and with a sprinkling of Metalheadz magic, Repercussions finds a subtlety often lacking in tech-driven dancefloor tracks. Where Shutter opts for wide-screen dramatics, Repercussions gets up-close and personal, whispering threats in your ear rather than shouting them across the room. Audio intimidation at its best. Echo: Shades of Goldie’s classic ‘Terminator’ saturate Echo’s intro before dropping into what can only be described as ‘pure’ drum & bass. Oozing bass slides and metallic stabs underpin skittering drums & percussion, conjuring up that long lost pre-‘EDM’ warehouse atmosphere. Echo is an anthem for dancefloors where sweat drips from the ceiling and no one knows the name of the tunes.

DSCI4’s latest LP offering ‘Final Chapter’, is, sadly, the final chapter in the label’s history. Founded back at the turn of the century by the legendary DJ Trace it became one of the standard bearers for the ‘Techstep’ sound in drum and bass with an enviable discography, including the revered ‘Spy Technologies’ series of compilations, as well as helping to bring through now household names such as Black Sun Empire and Chris SU along the way. Yet 13 years down the line Trace has decided to call it a day and what better to way to go out than with a bang…

DPCD006 – The Others – Red Planet – CD
Since debuting on Boka records back in 2007, The Others, AKA Alex Crawford, has come a long way. In the five years since his first release on Dub Police – the acclaimed ‘Africa’ EP in the same year – his prolific work rate and consistently high quality output has made him the most released artist on label and an integral part of its core, as well as a lynchpin in an ever-evolving dubstep scene. A series of impressive original productions, not to mention a number of standout highprofile remixes over the last few years are now set to culminate in his debut artist album for the label, ‘Red Planet’. DB080 – French Fries – Space Alarm – 12″ Vinyl
French Fries delivers two originals on the cutting edge of modern bass. “Space Alarm” is right up in your face but artfully holds back right when you think it will go over the top. The inside “Smoke Wine” is more in the vein of last years smash “Yo Vogue,” yet more understated and deep which is rare for the genre. When I play these at the right time they always solicit an audible “ooooh” from the crowd at thedrops. Remix #1 is by Justin Martin who really blows it up dirtybird style with almost a breakbeat old school electro beat. Remix #2 is by dirtybird newcomers GoldFFinch via Belgium who also deliver a really funk laden club version. Both remixes are ace and the full release brings a very fresh sound to the label.

The flipside, ‘Cyborg’, is a pumping techstepper, which merges tape-pack acid b-lines with the modern Reece chaos of techno’s more recent convergence with UK dubstep.

CIV053 – KUHN – KINGS EP (INCLUDES DOWNLOAD CODE FOR ALL TRACKS + BONUSES) – 12″ Vinyl
Kuhn’s sophomore effort for Civil Music, Kings EP is a collection of four diverse uptempo club tracks with an eclectic sampling palette and Footwork-inspired rhythmic complexities. ”I Quit,” featuring Astro Nautico brother in arms and LuckyMe contributor Obey City, flips a glittery pitched-up soul loop into an 808-fuelled dance floor workout with insistent vocal mantras and a jumpy kick drum rhythm. “NWYRK” grabs horns from Cuban Carnival music and places them over an off-kilter tom shuffle. “Boombox” merges hyper-pitched rave stabs, quaking sub kicks and sultry female vocal cutups to form a halftime beat before flipping into a hyperspeed finale. Finally, “Never Forget” carves massive choral samples into a manic haze with added hyperactive kick drums and lightning trap fills. The EP includes remixes of “I Quit” by Muscovite Pixelord and Atlanta’s Time Wharp. The former a warm laid back exercise in Russian Juke and the latter a smooth yet jacking kick lead house heater. Kuhn’s sound is raw, energetic and individual. It’s the work of 23 year old Brooklyn-based / Long Island native Bennett Kuhn. His long sold out debut EP Slime Beach was released on Civil Music almost a year to the day prior and received support from a diverse crowd of tastemakers including Claude Von Stroke, Mary Anne Hobbs, Ramadanman, Untold and A-Trak. Kuhn is irrepressibly linked to Astro Nautico, the Brooklyn-based label/blog/party collective co-founded in 2009 by Kuhn along with Obey City and Paulo Xz. Astro’s now infamous parties at FreeCandy have attracted global attention including a report from BBC Radio 1′s Benji B. Astro Nautico affiliates include; Howse, Space Ghost, Moist Ghost, RAJA, Time Wharp, Young Montana, Dreams, The Range, Baauer, Djemba Djemba, Zackey Funk Force, Abel and many more. The Kings EP pays homage to the Kings district of Brooklyn. The photography and artwork (which is also by Kuhn) show a Kings skyline and the Williamsburgh Savings Bank Tower. Look out for Video for “I Quit” by Paolo Xz. Kings EP is released 19th Nov on 12″ / Download on Civil Music.

KAIUM001 – Widowmaker – Abscess – 12″ Vinyl
The intro of Abcess sounds like you’ve just entered the realm of the Wicked, where the listener gets confronted with a serious amount of evil soundscapes and an intense drop. Here it’s all about the massive drumwork in combination with the impressive percussion involved, creating a serious rhythm together. The low-end is heavy, containing nice variations in depth and patterning. Morphing aggressive growls take over the mix along with some repetitive stabs to create a great amount of heat. Widowmaker’s timing is perfect, implementing necessary breaks to add an extra punch to certain parts of the track. Just amazing to hear how this track develops into a technical roller with such power – excellent track.” Widowmaker – Cerebral: ”Within the intro of Cerebral, a climax is built up through great grimey stabs with hints of a rolling low-end and evil progressive soundscapes. The drop contains contagious mids that eat your mind immediately, like with the other tracks on this release. Widowmaker’s signature comes forward through the way he has structured his beats and the progress they make overall – making it a rollercoaster ride for the listener. Nice minimal percussive elements involved, which are in balance with the rest of the elements present, the way it should be. The second drop contains new patterns that sent out the message that you as the listener can expect much more from him in the future. He delivered three solid tracks, making this a serious move from both Kaium and himself.” Widowmaker – Bionic 2099: ”Bionic 2099 starts off with an emotive intro, which develops into this sub-driven roller quickly. The heavy minimalistic drum patterns and the solid low-end form a dangerous basis for the destruction of the dancefloor. The mid-ranges cutting through the mix are effective, giving a lot of character to the mechanical growls that hit the listener. The crisp percussive elements keep the mind focused, hitting the ears perfectly. The progressive pads give this tune a spacious vibe, where effects are applied properly to enhance the deepness. Widowmaker knows his game, dropping morphing growls and serious weight is what he does best!” Written by Korrupt (FatKidOnFire)
