New D&B/Jungle Releases

SECOPS019 – Seba – Too Much Too Soon – 12″ Vinyl
This is an album sampler of Seba’s forthcoming album on Secret operations. Both track have been played out by Seba himself, but also DJ’s like marky and marcus intalex for the past year. Too much too soon is a vocal track with swedissh vocalist Little Jinder. It has a slight rock/pop feel to it with rythm guitars and distorted lead guitars in the chorus. Say you love me is a track Seba wrote after being inspired by listening to Larry “Mr fingers” Heard for some time.

REVREC024 – Sunchase & NickBee – Life Simulator / Full HD – 12″ Vinyl
Revolution Recordings return for the New Year with two brand new tracks from Ukrainian producers Sunchase and Nickbee.  First up on the release is the epic ‘Life Simulator’.  Ghostly atmospherics and resonating Sitars alongside some tribal percussion establishes the tone.  When this one drops, it drops hard.  Deep, low end sub bass combined with twisted, raw sounding leads are the key characteristics here, optimized for a unique journey into the deeper side of Drum and Bass. Next up we have ‘Full HD’ with its dreamy laidback introduction and spine tingling vocals all build to a crescendo of hard hitting Kicks, Snares and warped Bass lines.  It is clear to see Sunchase and Nickbee are not only extremely gifted producers but both are at the cutting edge of modern day Electronic music.  Seriously head nodding stuff!  A must for anyone who likes their D&B that little bit deeper.

New Dubstep/Bass Music Releases

OSMUK025 – Sleeper & District – The Risk / Dark Mutations – 12″ Vinyl
After racking up some of the toughest bass-laden releases of 2012 both individually and collaboratively, Sleeper and District kick off 2013 with vital debut 12″ on Kryptic Minds’ Osiris Music uk imprint. The duo build a venomous soundscape ravaged by low-frequency menace on ‘The Risk’, with commanding kicks driving through the mix underneath lashings of twisted synth engineering to create a brutal composition that sits somewhere between Dubstep and Techno. Sleeper fronts up the flipside on a solo tip with ‘Dark Mutations’, a fierce halftime monster with licks of writhing mid-range riding colossal waves of sub-bass. Powerful and hard hitting vibrations from the Coventry-based pairing.

MEDI064 – Kahn – Dread – 12″ Vinyl
Kahn hails from Bristol and is part of the Young echo collective alongside Vessel, Zhou, El Kid & J a b u. The Young Echo collective have been collaborating, producing, putting on clubs nights and showcasing their unique and diverse sound of experimental bass music and over the last couple of years they have gained much deserved recognition from the like of Mary Anne Hobbs and the BBC respectively. Check out their podcast series on iTunes. https://itunes.apple.com/podcast/young-echo-radio/id493072968?mt=2 Kahn has recorded on Punch Drunk, Idel hands and Box Clever. He has also released ‘Percy’ alongside Neek on his own label, which is currently tearing up the dance. Kahn’s first release on DEEP MEDi is the long awaited ‘DREAD’ which has been a firm favourite in Mala’s, Youngsta’s and Vivek’s sets over the last year. ‘Dread’ is an 80’s Dancehall/Reggae inspired bone-crushing slice of pure heavyweight dub pressure, vibes of the highest order! Back this with the equally hard and experimental dub of ‘Late Night Blues’ featuring vocals from Bristol’s very own Rider Shafique and you have some serious level’s of bass weight to contend with.

LIT002 – Bebop and Rocksteady – Catalunya / Rubber Sophie – 12″ Vinyl
Following the first release on my LIT label is from the quite brilliantly named; Bebop & Rocksteady. This might be a new name to some but the guys behnd this project are lukes anger & Ben Mallott. After playing Catalunya  throughout the year i felt this tune needed to see a release, its just so f***ing good. Its response on the dancefloor was devastating. Anyone who has seen me dj recently would remember this one in my set , it gets a massive reaction once that drop comes in. I’ll still be playing this all year, a proper slice of good wonky techno. -Addison Groove

Brand new from Mindset Records, Biome steps up with a surprising release considering his strong affiliation with the ‘dungeon step’ sound, here we see him unleash 3 Techno influenced tracks on Indigo’s Manchester based label, a new angle for Biome and on the strength of this release I’m sure we’ll see many more productions from him on this tip.

BFR011 – Genetix – Genetix Part 1 – 12″ Vinyl
After ending last year with successful debut releases from Farkas and LAXX, Biscuit Factory Records returns with its first release of 2013. The first of a two part release sees established Bournemouth based producers, Genetix, bring their sound to the imprint. The A side is Goin’ In. An eerie intro, layered with vocals, quickly leads into an unsuspecting drop. Deep, sub low basslines pulsate throughout with perfectly placed melodic stabs giving the track its undeniable presence in any club. This is Dubstep in its purest form. Mindrise on the flip maintains the moody and sinister feel to this release. Rolling drums and bongos come in straight from the start, leading into a drop that will get you drawing for your best tribal skank. Genetix excellently demonstrate their ability to produce a track that combines both the vintage bass-led sound, along with fresh and crisp percussion. Available as a digital bonus track, 24/7 Reflex is another deep and dark track that oozes with the original half-step sound. Again, Genetix effortlessly merge tribal sounding drums and bongos along with raw, aggressive synths. All three tracks firmly cement the continuing intention and ethos of the label; to keep pushing good quality underground music into an ever evolving scene. They have all being receiving massive support from key DJ’s within the last few months. Featured in Walsh’s and N Type’s sets, they have quickly become sought after tracks by many other producers and DJ’s alike. Support also coming from Hatcha (KISS FM, Sin City Records), Skream & Benga (BBC Radio One) and Youngsta (Tempa, Rinse FM).

LTECH003 – Bandshell – Caustic View – 12″ Vinyl
Bandshell makes music akin to impenetrably complex puzzles. With a rhythmically intricate style both coarse & strikingly individual his curious constructions have seemingly little regard for the constraints of the dance floor. The second track on the EP, ‘Perc,’ is featured on Ben UFO’s Fabriclive 67.

1 Bandshell – Winton
2 Bandshell – Perc
3 Bandshell – Nice Mullet
4 Bandshell – Landfill

MUVD004 – Biome – Black Widow – 12″ Vinyl
Macabre Unit Vinyl drops it’s fourth press after the tearing double A-sider from Demon and DCullt back in November, and for this one highly acclaimed master of the dark arts Biome unleashes 3 slabs of soundsystem punishing construction. A trio of very different tracks again prove his ability to push the boundaries in a area often oversaturated with “stale” and unoriginal ideas. Black Widow is a Youngsta favourite, led by hypnotic, rattling drums; tribal, hard hitting and again showing Biome’s versatility within the 140 bracket. Rips and growls leap out unexpectedly from the scuttling percussion, sucking you in to listen more intently. Certainly different, but definately infectious. Straight bass roller! Quasar creeps in tentatively; moody blips tease amongst a subterrainean undercurrent. It swings into action, skippy and high energy with spluttering electro stabs jutting out from a pulsating, bubbling low end. As it progresses it’s shaken up by those infamous, twisted Biome edits. One for the skankers Mystery is a stripped back, minimal affair, deadly in its precision; spacious and menacing. Serious eyes down business, perfectly poised plodding low end, broken by mutant, contorted snarls. A superbly rounded EP

1 Biome – Black Widow
2 Biome – Quasar
3 Biome – Mystery

HORO008 – Kiyoko – Kiyoko EP – 10″ Vinyl
Kiyoko is Synkro and Bering Strait. Following on from their sublime debut LP ‘Sea Of Trees’ for ASC’s Auxilliary label, Kiyoko were approached to contribute to the Horo series in an effort to take it even further outside the constraints of any bpm or musical genre. The resulting 4 track EP is akin to having your mind soaked in honey while you float on top of clouds in the kind of dream you never want to wake from. With titles removed to allow your mind to associate your own mental images to each track, Kiyoko takes Synkro’s genius touch with soaring emotions and spreads them evenly into a gentle soothing melancholy that few electronic musicians are capable of. NKD004 – Breach & Dark Sky – The Click / Fallout – 12″ Vinyl
Available on very limited hand stamped 180gram vinyl. The result of a creative coming-together of two very different producers, Breach and Dark Sky present the somewhat unexpected sounding ‘The Click’ on Naked Naked. As the fourth EP from the imprint, which has seen the release of label boss Breach’s ‘You Won’t Find Love Again’ and Breach and Midland’s collaborative ‘101 & Somewhere EP’ previously, ‘The Click’ continues to champion UK sounds in line with the London imprint’s aesthetic. Long term admirers of each other’s work, ‘The Click’ originated after Ben Westbeech invited the Dark Sky trio to work on his forthcoming album. With four creative brains in the studio eager to showcase their sound and a variety of production techniques to match Westbeech’s hardware-laden workspace, it soon became clear that the results were feeling more suited to his Breach project. And so, NKD004 was born. Title track ‘The Click’ draws you into some seriously dark house production with a clanging, muted heartbeat introduction. The first vocal soon gives way to an addictive, yet ominous, groove where distant hisses, unsettling chatters and swarming flies create an altogether disconcerting dance floor atmosphere. ‘The Click’ is a track whose heavy bass pads, dissonant, swelling stabs and fleeting vocal interjections will drive you to the very darkest club corners. B-side ‘The Fallout’ is an altogether more elevating affair. Here, harmonic synths, soft key arpeggios and garage-tinged vocal and percussion work give way to an irresistibly sultry breakdown.

NONPLUS022 – Boddika & Joy Orbison / Kassem Mosse – Think And Change LP Sampler 1 – 12″ Vinyl
Sampler 1 brings us one of the most sought after tunes of the year, Joy Orbison and Boddika’s ‘Mercy’ has been given the VIP treatment by Boddika and it’s been doing damage on dance-floors world-wide since it’s inception. On the flip, Kassem Mosse brings his exclusive flavour back to the Nonplus camp with ‘Broken Patterns’, a mesmeric journey through evolving melodies and drum programming.

12DVMUTE3 – Diamond Version – EP3 – 12″ Vinyl
Diamond Version craft music that’s somehow simultaneously futuristic and archaic. On the surface, its static effervescence and mechanistic precision evoke the march of technology and the sinister detachment of late capitalist society. But it affects listeners on a more instinctive level, interfacing directly with the nervous system and rendering the polyphonic chatter of the body’s impulses crisp and cold. There’s something oddly permanent about they rhythms they unearth, as though they’re simply tapping into a deeper pulse that’s always been present within their circuitry. Diamond Version is a collaborative project between two of the most groundbreaking, experimental and forward thinking operators in modern music, Olaf Bender and Carsten Nicolai. As joint heads of the Berlin-based label Raster-Noton and with solo projects Alva Noto (Nicolai) and Byetone (Bender), for over a decade they have been releasing work that spectacularly blurs the lines between the visceral and the conceptual, bridging the gap between gallery and dancefloor. ‘Turn On Tomorrow’ is the third instalment in the series of EP releases from the project that will result in the release of an lone player late Spring.

b1 Diamond Version – Sense Of Urgency
b2 Diamond Version – Turn On Tomorrow (Version)
