Break “Resistance” LP – Released 29th Nov [Symmetry Recordings]

Break “Resistance” LP – Released 29th Nov [Symmetry Recordings]

Posted 17 November 2010 | By | Categories: news, video | 2 Comments

Following on from the release of his ‘Symmetry’ LP, Break is set to raise the bar again this November with a second LP, ‘Resistance’, released on his own label ‘Symmetry Recordings’.

Break launched Symmetry Recordings in 2006, honing and refining his sound with a string of acclaimed singles before releasing ‘Symmetry’ in 2008. Featuring forays into ambient, dubstep, funk, hip hop, house and soul amongst an arsenal of sure-fire drum & bass, ‘Symmetry’ earned Break an army of new fans beyond D&B and saw tracks picked up by the likes of techno legends Laurent Garnier and Josh Wink, while tunes such as ‘Is This What You Want’ and ‘Traits’ have continued to remain staples in the sets of the D&B elite.

Two years on and Break is releasing his second long player; ‘Resistance’. Featuring collaborations with No U-Turn mastermind Nico, Bristol’s DJ Die, production super-duo Calyx & Teebee, DNAudio cohorts Silent Witness and Survival, Shogun Audio’s SpectraSoul and vocalists Kyo and SP:MC, the album offers a glorious journey through the spectrum of Break’s styles and influences, following in the same vein as its predecessor but pushing the envelope further still.

Break

With barely a third of the album unveiled it is already receiving heavy support from pioneers such as Goldie, Andy C and LTJ Bukem, ‘Resistance’ is shaping up to be one of the biggest releases yet this year.

DJ support: Andy C, Friction, Chase & Status, DJ Marky, Ed Rush, Optical, Calyx, Teebee, Bailey, DJ Die, Krust, TC, Spor, Noisia, John B, Total Science, SpectraSoul, Logistics, Nu:Tone, Randall, Fierce, Klute, Prolix, Lenzman, Rock- well, Phace, Flight, Craggz & Parallel.

Vicious Circle & Universal Project Present: Siren – “Broken Silence” LP

Vicious Circle & Universal Project Present: Siren – “Broken Silence” LP

Posted 12 October 2010 | By | Categories: news, tracks, video | 1 Comment

After years of success in their relative drum and bass production outfits, Siren is a collaboration of Vice from Vicious Circle and Ruxspin from Universal Project. Their debut album, “Broken Silence”, forthcoming in November 2010 on their own Siren Records has been doing damage on the DJ circuit for some time now.

Tracks such as ‘Snorkel’ (included on Andy C’s Nightlife 5 compilation), ‘Gumball Rally’, ‘Rollers Convention’ and ‘Broken Silence’ have been staples in the sets of everyone from Andy C to DJ Marky to Fabio and Chase and Status, as well as the new breed of artist producers such as S.P.Y, Spor and Jubei.

Siren

Over the last 10 years Universal Project are responsible for hits such as ‘Vessel’ on the Virus imprint, ‘Haunted Dreams’ on their own label Universal Project and an EP on DJ Hype’s True Playaz, as well as ‘Streetilfe’ with DJ Friction for Advanced Recordings and many Renegade Hardware smashers such as ‘Danger Chamber’, ‘Comin’ Thru’ and the Black Techno EP.

The Universal Project sound is B-Boy breaks with techno elements and dubwise bass, and everything in between. Vicious Circle broke through in 2005 with their monster remix of Universal Project’s ‘Jackhammer’ and have been destroying dancefloors ever since with their unique sound. Releases such as ‘Between the Lines’ and the ‘Welcome to Shanktown’ EP on Renegade Hardware pushed them to the forefront of the tech dnb scene. Subsequent releases on Digital Soundboy, Critical and Quarantine displayed a diverse style that has helped establish them as heavy hitters across the board whilst collaborations with high profile artists such as Chase & Status, Dom & Roland, Fierce and most recently Jubei clearly demonstrate the respect they command from their peers.

After spending a lot of time in the studio together Vice and Ruxspin decided to create a new guise for their own brand of rolling future funk. Siren is the result. Both artists in their own right have toured the world from the farthest reaches of Europe to the United States and Asia, consistently destroying dancefloors and gaining a reputation as masters of their craft. The aim of this duo is to cover all styles within the scene and not be constrained by subgenres, whilst still main- taining a dancefloor ethos which is true to their UK roots.

Already much talked about and tipped for big things, Siren is the new act on everyone’s lips. Watch this space.

Critical Music – Label update

Critical Music – Label update

Posted 27 September 2010 | By | Categories: news, tracks, video | No Comments

One of the most highly revered and rotated vocal D&B tracks from the past six months is back, this time with an ice-cold twist ready to take us into the frosty autumnal months. Drawing in the talents of Critical playmate Break to add his deft touch was always going to result in one thing – absolute dance floor devastation! Oozing class while smacking up the dance is something many producers can only dream of. The masterclass starts here.

Drifting pads with sexed-up guitar touches intro the ‘Redlines’ remix before the drums kick and we’re away on a blues-infused excursion with full vocal riding on top as the chords roll out. Don’t be fooled though as the fun’s just about to start! A quick repeated refrain and suddenly in crash the amens, edits and the most gut-wrenching sub to demolish the place. Vocal teases run throughout together with swathes of guitar but it’s the sheer tearout that wins in the end. Absolutely fantastic.

Flipping things over and Total Science come back with the classic sounds of ‘Scaremonger’. Seemingly an ode to the vibes of yesteryear, this one bounces with the best of them. A hot twostepping break carries the stabbing b-line that morphs subtly as this wicked bubbler moves along with ease. Proper Total Science doing what they do best. DJ support from Andy C, Bailey, Hype, Friction, Cyantific, Logistics and many more.

Coming soon – Brand new label from Cyantific

Jon Stanley aka Cyantific is back – careering back into the drum & bass spotlight right where he belongs, with the debut release on his own self-titled label.

Leading the way is ‘Brighter Day’ – the latest collaboration between Cyantific and fellow Hospital Records artist Logistics. Picking up where their previous outing, the mighty ‘Flashback’, left off, it’s supercharged electric d&b of the highest order, featuring the vocal talents of Natalie Williams. While the lead synth line and uplifting vocals sooth the soul, the ever so snarling bassline and pumping subs remind you that this isn’t going to be all plain sailing. After gaining a huge following online through Danny Byrd’s recent BBC Radio 1 guest mix, the lead track is set to smash dancefloors up and down the country with support from what reads like a who’s who of the drum & bass A list.

Cyantific

On the flip, Cyantific goes it alone, deeper into the jungle with ’88 mph’. Filled to the brim with amen breaks, big bass and urgent samples, it’s 3am at Fabric room 1. Reminiscent of Cyantific’s early Hospital Records jungle rinse outs such as ‘Little Green Men’ and ‘Reincarnation Dub’, this latest offering is set to blow a hole twice the size in your bassbin with subs that go so low you will find them somewhere in subterranea.

forthcoming: Phace & Misanthrop “From Deep Space” LP

forthcoming: Phace & Misanthrop “From Deep Space” LP

Posted 11 January 2010 | By | Categories: news, tracks, video | 1 Comment

More than a year in the making ‘From Deep Space’ brings together two of the leading lights of the European drum & bass scene with Phace ready to build on the success of their 2007 debut album ‘Psycho’, and Misanthrop ready to stamp his mark with what is undoubtedly both artists’ best work to date.

Distinct, cutting-edge, deep-impact drum & bass full to the brim of mind-bending bass and sci-fi soundscapes that’s destined to blow away both home listeners and global dance floors alike.

These guys are pushing the boundaries once again with this LP, people take note! Always got some Phace & Misanthrop in my record box, German engineering at its best.” Friction

Drum & bass has always been at the forefront of sonic innovation in dance music, Phace and Misanthrop are currently on the frontline. An essential album not to be missed.” DJ Fresh

‘From Deep Space’ presents a full-force journey through state-of-the-art broken beats and sonic wizardry that will have the most ardent of tech-specialists nodding their heads in appreciation. From the downbeat excursions of the opening track ‘Channel Feel’ and the electro workout ‘Generation For Sale’ to the tear-out D&B of ‘You Keep On Talking’ Phace & Misanthrop demonstrate the utmost precision creating devastating beats and yet retaining a definite sense of space in their arrangements that keeps things fresh and unsparingly satisfying. On hearing tracks such as ‘Non Human’ and ‘Interplay’ it’s not hard to see why Phace & Misanthrop are regularly featured in DJ sets of Andy C, Noisia, Friction, Ed Rush and Optical right the way through to the likes of Alix Perez and D Bridge.

If you’re anywhere near interested in drum & bass and the exploration of sonic logic and depth you cannot miss this album. Nobody goes where Phace and Misanthrop go.” Noisia
