New D&B Releases

SUBTITLESUK002 2098 / Yogurt Brainwave -Ulterior Motive Subtitles Music (UK) 12″ Vinyl
Ulterior Motive take you back to the future with ‘2098’, recalling pre-millennial tension with sci-fi atmospherics, genetically modified breaks and a bionic bassline straight out of the golden era of drum & bass. DJ support from the likes of Noisia, Ed Rush & Optical, Alix Perez, Jubei, Total Science, Commix and Break proves they’re doing it right. ‘Yoghurt Brainwave’ sees the UM boys swapping their trademark synths for full-fat funk bass and hinting there’s a heck of a lot more in their locker. What the DJ’s are saying:
Ed Rush “Gonna be playing 2098 for an age, doing serious damage worldwide. More tunes like this please!”
dBridge “I wondered how long it would be for someone to come along and re-ignite the flame left to fade by others”
SP:MC “Optical left the gate open and these boys are coming right on through”
Jubei “These guys are like the Marty McFly & Doc Emmett Brown of drum & bass right now, bringing that funk back. As Ulterior Motive build momentum, we all wait with great anticipation”

WARM016 Hydrate / Hydrate (Consequence Remix) -DJG Warm Communications 12″ Vinyl
Known in many circles for his wonderful dubstep excursions comes San Francisco native “DJG” with his excellent take on Drum & Bass. This is his first release when it comes to D&B and we are very proud to be releasing these amazing tunes! Welcome aboard!
A. HYDRATE A deep menacing vibe kicks things off a steady kick while claps and thick snare are sprinkled throughout leading up to a thunderous reese that will challenge any system. Muffled horns and vocals keep things interesting leading up to a subterranean breakout takes things into dubby territory! A truly wonderful piece of original music!
AA. HYDRATE ( CONSEQUENCE REMIX ) Known for his work with the Autonomic crew, Consequence seemed the perfect match to recreate an already wonderful tune and does a great job with this remix. A hazy intro with dusty crackles leads into the tune’s signature kick with claps. Dubby stabs with a drawn out horn take things deeper before the bass punches through. Consequence has taken his signature minimal sound and added upon the original for a truly deep, original recreation. These are the kind of remixes we like! Dub Dub Dub!!!

RECIPE009 Wray / It Was Destined To Happen -Dub One Ingredients Records 12″ Vinyl
This is jungle!! Ingredients Records serves up something a bit different for their ninth instalment. Olly Harmer -aka “Dub One” is a bit of a Jungle veteran. Known for his brutal drum work and Reinforced influenced sounds, we’ve managed to snap up a special tune for the old skool jungle headz. “Wray” has been on dub plate now for at least 2 years and finally sees it’s vinyl release. Harking back to 1994, ethereal pads, crashing amen drums and awesome bass. “It was destined to happen” is a half time dubby affair, one for the deeper crew who like it dark. DJ support London Elektricity, Andy C, Equinox, Paradox, Dub One.

After a short period of silence Disturbed’s evil twin brother Mentally Disturbed is back with a vengeance. Counterstrike and Cooh stepping for the destruction works. Both guys have been extremely busy this year. Counterstrike working on projects with new talent on his CSRECS and established artists like Eye-D and Hidden, with their amazing release on ONE SEVEN FIVE they reached top of the charts and appeal to both dnb and hard edged audience. Cooh is been even more busy with his profile. Slammer after slammer this man drops upon us and there seems to be no end in the near future. His most outstandig project in the last year was probably the hardcore vibes drum ‘n bass hit. On this new EP both artists combine their exquisite production skills and use it to the max. A killer combo and a dancefloor killer.

BLR005R Twisted -Outrage Backlash Records 12″ Vinyl
Fifth release for Outrage’s Backlash Records imprint, and the funk has no sign of ceasing! We’ve got two dynamic plates on this one, and the fiery “Twisted” kicks things off. In his no-nonsense approach, this cut wastes no time in getting to the point: once the infectious bass is introduced, its go time! It’s an understated menace, with not too many elements mucking up the pressure – just snappy drums, a rumble of a bass and some interesting twists and turns to the main theme. Bombastic, try it on a ready crowd. On the flipside, Outrage goes a bit deeper with “New Faces”, bringing in a sinister growl and pairing it up with a bouncy bassline. Feels like the effects of a drug, blood rushing, lights skittering, all colors awash, and all you see are a sea of new faces. Welcome to the future.

RECIPE010 Cold One / Fallen Angel -Skeptical / Skeptical & Dub Phizix Ingredients Records 12″ Vinyl
BIG TUNE!! So much attention this year has been on the minimal sounds within drum & bass.
Skeptical, a name creeping up the chain, has really honed this skill of keeping it minimal yet powerful. “Cold One” is arguably his finest tune to date. Bringing back the hoovers, while delivering a totally fresh style, this is a must have tune. Dub Phizix from Manchester, is another new name, but with a slew of releases on big labels pending it won’t be long before he becomes a buy on sight artist. This co-lab with Skeptical is absolutely dangerous, watch the bassbins, i’m telling ya!

TRIM016PT1 Feed The Culture EP 2 Part 1 -Neonlight & Hedj / Rido & Morebeat Trust In Music 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. Feed the culture EP2 picks up where the much acclaimed part one ended. An exciting mixture of drum and bass with different blends from techno dnb to jump up, atmospheric soundscapes and film music moods was compiled here. Starting out with the great ‘System Error’ that has been on heavy rotation from deejays nationwide, Neonlight & Hedj lay down another future classic. ‘System Error’ begins with a sci‐fi movie athmosphere before it drops into a marching bassline, accompanied by the retro rave keys and pads that this collective is known for. We are happy that we can release this great track from Hedj who departed recently under tragic circumstances. Rido & Morebeat´s ‘Machine Desire’ is a somewhat different track with a strong musical guitar riff and a funky bassline. After the introduction it switches quite surprinzingly into the mainpart, with a stabbing bass that is just a pure slab of dancefloor delight. A Trust in Music deejays favorite!

An exciting mixture of drum and bass with different blends from techno dnb to jump up, atmospheric soundscapes and film music moods was compiled here. ’Espionage’ by Sleeper Cell & Redco is a bass heavy monster that starts with haunting pads and builds up to a big fury of drums and bass. Complete with an inkey/offkey melody, this one´s a hard and hitting neurofunk carnage for special moments. Engage – ‘Amalgam’ got remixed by N.phect who turned the original with its strong hook into an even more driving track. „Amalgam“remix is a track that keeps a mix going and is suitable in many occasions. PIPS013 ILove04 / Lilt -KidKut Apple Pips 12″ Vinyl
Adam Jackson AKA Kidkut has played a major part in Bristol’s music scene over recent years with his Immerse label releasing consistently outstanding music from the likes of Kontext, Benga, & Late to name but a few. Now Jackson is teaming up with leading imprint Apple Pips for the release of his own much awaited debut single. Apple Pips is the brainchild of Laurie Osborne AKA Appleblim who has made the label one of the most desirable dubstep/electronica imprints out there featuring music from Martyn, Ramadanman, Brackles, Instra:mental & more. Kidkut’s single kicks off with the pointedly titled ‘ILove04’, a percussive roller that combines elements of broken beat, UK Funky, & early dubstep, with snippets of garage vocals and intense twisted bass. The arrangement cuts and flows perfectly, chopping between rhythms and melodic parts with the breakdown giving a definite nod of the head to oldskool hardcore. The flipside sees Kidkut going totally tropical with the magnificent ‘Lilt’, a percussive workout built around intricate drums and rolling bass that underpin the euphoric summer inspired synth lines. Bringing to mind the stripped down work of Karizma, this is sure to go down well with the Funky heads, indeed Bok Bok is already supporting the tune. Early radio and DJ support coming from Sinden (Kiss FM), Toddla T (Ninja Tune/Radio 1), Mary Anne Hobbs, (Radio 1), Bok-Bok (Night Slugs) & Jackmaster (Numbers)

SUBHUMAN001 Garbage / Hunt You Down -Numbernin6 Subhuman Recordings 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy promo. Essential,Essential ,Essential!. Wreaking havoc globally, NumberNin6’s rich schizophrenic sound enjoys support by international dubstep titans including Skream, Rusko, N-Type, Plastician, and Bassnectar, as well as BBC Radio 1 DJ’s Mistjam and Annie Mac. NumberNin6 (aka Nishant Parikh) whose production began in trance scene, is a master of dichotomy who meticulously fuses stark contrasts –aggressive vs. mellow, darkness vs. light –into dancefloor napalm. “Garbage” intros with menacing lyrics and a series of warning bass stabs that evoke a grimey ghetto scenario. After the drop, all hell breaks loose with a wicked NumberNin6 signature bassline and cracking snares. This is an absolute dubstep anthem and has done it’s fair share of destruction worldwide. For real. Coming with a literal double A-side, “Hunt You Down” begins with a haunting flute melody that winds it’s way up the mountain, then unloads with a massive barrage of machine gun bass stabs guaranteed to cause speaker damage and crowd destruction.

RS1005 Safehouses EP -Pariah R&S Records 12″ Vinyl x 2
Finish copy promo. Second single for the hotly tipped London based producer Pariah on the legendary R&S record label. Parish’s debut single ‘Detroit Falls/Orpheus’ gained the young producer many high profile fans including Rob da Bank, Mary Ann Hobbs, Ramadanman, Untold, Len Faki, Appleblim, Chris Duckenfield and Will Saul amongst many others. The first ep also found its way onto high profile, and influential blogs and websites including Pitchfork, Fact, Gorilla Vs Bear, No Pain In Pop and Rcrd Lbl, and was a recommended release at Boomkat. The debut single contained the first two Pariah tracks ever recorded and were instantly recognisable as referencing the hip hop beat collages of Dilla and the moody atmospheric 2 step rhythms of Burial. This doublepack sees Pariah move further towards developing his own sound, and takes in slamming percussive club tracks, deeper 2 step excursions and downtempo and beatless highlights. Early supporters of this release include Mary Ann Hobbs, Falty DL, Ramadanman, Ben UFO, Untold and Mosca. Pariah is a peer of the likes of Burial, Bullion, James Blake, Pangaea and Untold, and part of wider loosely knit scene that includes futuristic, electronic beatsmiths such as Lorn, Hudson Mohawke, and Falty DL etc. Already an in demand remixer before the release of his debut single. He has remixed The XX, Ellie Goulding and Bombay Bicycle Club.

CLDUB010 Field of Vibrations EP -Goli and Ashburner Clandestine Cultivations 12″ Vinyl
Clandestine Cultivations are proud to finally usher in our 10th vinyl release on the 10th year of this millennium, with another debut for a pair of artists sure to join the ranks of the many successes we have broken in the past. Goli and Ashburner have been making some pretty serious waves over the past 12 months. First reaching the ears of the masses through their definitive remix of Tempa T’s Next Hype, which managed to top the slew of remixes from established producers across the field and received heavy play from Plastician amongst others. They followed this up with their filthed out bootleg of Renegade Master which flew off the shelves ending up in many a DJ’s bag. After a host of gigs all over europe and the UK, the duo are keen to show off the side of the sound they really wanted to be pushing all along. These 3 tracks are pretty far removed from the upfront nature of their previous output, with Field Of Vibrations seeing the duo refocus and refine their ample production talents into concentrated bass-weight, an atmospheric concoction that bears a much closer similarity to the seminal dubstep sound of 2006. Backed with Ashburner’s steppers special “Space Skank”, and the dark and twisted bass mutations of “Lurkin”, with a digital special containing a more energetic reworking of ‘Skank for the filthier floors; this platter is, we feel, a welcome return to the core values of dubstep in a time when everything seems to be racing off in all directions. Big dread bass for your ribcage.

SUBWAYDS001 Destination EP 1 -Various Artists Subway 12″ Vinyl x 2
Finish copy. Subway Recordings has been a steady force within the dubstep scene the last 3 years.. Not only as a label but also as one of the most forward thinking party crews on the Dutch scene. Some of the leading Dubstep names have passed through Subway first before becoming the new rockstars of today. By flexing its sides from deep to hardcore they have been showing how far the word dubstep bends into multiple angles.. After releasing quality tunes like “Missed Calls”, “Unknown Suspect” & especially last year’s hotly tipped “Seeeriousss” its certain that this label knows quality when they hear it…And this Destination Compilation has the word quality written alllll over it.. Ranging from Mutant Funky/Dubstep to Garage combined with some of the grittiest & darkest sounds Dubstep has to offer… Subway once again shows what Dubstep is all about… Not clinging to styles or focusing on sub genres.. this compilation is all about “Dubstep” in every sense of the word…

aa) Dance Too (Lee Jones Remix)

Released on 21st June 2010 on 12″ Vinyl / Digital.

Komonazmuk drops a tough slice of deep, stepping, and melodic dubstep for our 11th release…
With his history in rave culture stretching back to the oldskool days, through releases on Hardleaders & Moving Shadow with Ice Minus, right up to his current cutting edge productions, Keiran Lomax aka Komonazmuk has got his fingers in many musical pies.

Having had big releases on scene-leaders like Tempa, and his debut album coming on H.E.N.C.H. later this year, his versatility as a producer and engineer is second to none. Teaming up with Appleblim for remix work has resulted in stunning reworks of artists as varied as Bonobo, Brendon Moeller, and Harmonia & Brian Eno, for labels such as Ninja Tune, Francois Kevorkian’s Wave Music, & Will Saul’s Aus Music.

In fact after Komonazmuk & Appleblim remixed Lee Jones & Nick Hoppner’s My My project for Aus Music, Lee Jones returned the musical favour with this stunning deeper than deep house rework of Dance Too…

With a residency at Fabric, and regularly playing all over the world, 2010 is looking great for Komonazmuk! DJ/Radio support coming from Mary Anne Hobbs (BBC Radio 1), Rob Da Bank (Radio 1/Bestival), Sinden (Kiss/Domino), Appleblim & many more…

With his debut, the awesome ‘Grimelight’, being released on Hessle Audio, Joe is part of a loose group of likeminded and future-thinking producers & DJs that includes Hessle Audio’s Ramadanman, Ben UFO, & Pangaea, and Untold & James Blake. Whilst they all have very individual sounds, they share a vision of dubstep, uk funky, techno & house influenced beats that seem to defy genre.

The A-side ‘Untitled’ is a huge stepping wad of funk, bringing to mind 2-step, early Skream & Benga, even stripped down grime classics like Pulse X, but with a truly contemporary twist. This tune drops hard, and has been a secret weapon of Appleblim’s for some time now – he was pleasantly surprised to see ravers of all ages go mad to it!

The flip sees Joe’s more experimental leanings come out on ‘Digest’, but he never forgets the groove and funk. With rolling percussion, steppy sub bass and shiny analogue synth stabs cutting through, it seems to us like a mixture of Mala from Digital Mystikz and Theo Parrish! High praise indeed…

DJ/Radio support coming from Mary Anne Hobbs (BBC Radio 1), Modeselektor, Peverelist, Rob Da Bank (Radio 1/Bestival), Paul Woolford, Ramadanman, Brackles, Appleblim & many more.

LUCKYDEVIL007 Liberty City Blues – Data / Incident & Paul SG Lucky Devil 12″ Vinyl

After a brief hiatus, we return with a delicate slice of wax that epitomises what LDR stands for – new, original music from hardworking, young artists. After the success of Data’s “Blowpipe” on LD5 and a string of genre-busting releases on labels like Metalheadz, Critical, Revolution and Tempa, Data brings us a grimy gem in the form of “Liberty City Blues”. Incident from Hungary and Paul SG from Austria blew us away with this track which featured on our recent Knowledge Magazine cover CD mix. “Liberty City Blues” is a minimalistic piece of jungle music reminiscent of early Photek or Source Direct. From the outset the tune just bubbles with menace and keeps on building and evolving throughout. A pure bass-heavy slice of proper jungle. “Autumn Drops” is a soulful roller that shows that this crew are ones to watch in 2010. Full of melancholy, icy vibes and a subtle basslinethat gets right under your skin, this track is a firm favourite for this year

With White Noise Down Fourward shows that theyre going onward.. onward to interesting directions! The B side hold as said before.. N.Phect.. The Germafunker steps off from the heavy neuro for a bit to flex his more subtle muscles and with his Jewel tune he succeeded tremendously! Another side of N.Phect that he should show alot more!

Apex’ debut solo 12″ on Lifted Music is fronted by the now infamous ‘Entrapment’. After doing the rounds with the scenes biggest, the release date is finally set for the public to get their hands on it, and they will not be disappointed. A groovy live bass guitar accompanies a downright quirky melody, all blended beautifully through that trademark Apex engineering. A hot-stepping kick snare combo laced with intricate end-bar fills pay homage to a producer whose quality control has won awards, and testifies as to why he is one of the in demand artists at the moment. If ‘Entrapment’ is anything to go by, 2010 could once again be another big year for Apex. B Side: ‘Gonzo’ The most recent creation from Apex showcases his development as both an artist and an engineer. Receiving extensive support worldwide, ‘Gonzo’ is that track that you have heard in every club, from all the top DJ’s. Oh gosh!! Jonny L never fails to impress. Fans of Dillinja around 2000 will love this awesome remix of dancefloor devastation. Great vocal hook on the intro & then the bass takes over. Anthem? Quite possibly, but cetainly a big tune for 2010. Don’t sleep! Flip for “Dreaming” for some typical mellowness in Jonny L fashion.

DARKESTRALEX002 Dreadtone / Timeloss – Consequence Darkestral Excursions 12″ Vinyl

LIMITED EDITION 500 copies manufactured on white with black streaks vinyl, in black reverse board, with overprinted pantone logo. Following the Keep an Eye On section accolade and 5/5 Album review ‘..downright essential’ in current edition of Mixmag, Consequence’s debut Darkestral release comes as the second in the Excursions series. ‘Dreadtone’ and ‘Timeloss’ are two essential forays into the zero gravity production style Consequence is rapidly building a name for. Heavy as molasses and just as thick atmospherically, both tracks have an almost dread-step feel to them, gaseous air pervading the cinemascopic textures and construction and warm deep bass as an undercarriage.

b Consequence – Timeloss

BLUSYNC002 Sampler 2 Sync: Saphir LP – Electrosoul System / Bionic1 Blu Saphir 12″ Vinyl

For the second sampler of the Sync:Saphir album collaboration, the sounds are switched up a bit, bringing in a very heavy remix of Electrosoul System’s Fun (from BLUS004) and newcomer BIONIC1′s Love Machine. These two tunes put a new spin on the usual Blu Saphir and Syncopix releases you’re used to, bringing deep, techy, rolling vibes to the table. You’re all used to Henree, spitting out releases over the last five years on the likes of Blindside, Deep Kut, Sound Trax, Lucky Devil, Phunkfiction, Soul:R and Vampire. BIONIC1 is a newcomer to Drum & Bass, but he’s got a rolled out sound that’s not to be missed!

A. ELECTROSOUL SYSTEM — FUN (HENREE REMIX) Before listening to this remix, you might want to revisit the original to notice the change in texture and sound. Henree definitely lays it down with this remix. Bass heavy and driving, you’ll feel bass quakes rolling through the floor as this one passes through the sound system. The opening resembles the original, but that’s all you’re going to get that hasn’t really changed. The moody chord progression that is stabilized throughout the track is enough to make a spine tingle, while the minimal vocal adds spice and atmosphere to an already amazing work. Very melodic and uplifting, an excellent choice in remix selection for this record!

B. BIONIC1 — LOVE MACHINE There is no one word to describe this track. One second you’re locked inside some type of futuristic space encounter, and then bombarded by techy stabs and vicious bass in the next. Following a sexy and seductive vocal, “Wanna go for a ride?,” all chaos breaks loose! Rolling tech funk is the name of the game here! Fans of labels like DNAudio, Black Reign LTD, Quarantine, Critical and Shadow Law will want to check into this one!

SUPPORT: MARCUS INTALEX, DJ MARKY, RANDOM MOVEMENT, S.P.Y AND MANY MORE.

ISP002 Blip / Vansan (Gatekeeper remix) – Gatekeeper / Appleblim If Symptoms Persist 12″ Vinyl

A nice quick follow-up to a great first release on Wedge’s new label ISP,….this time by his good friend Gatekeeper. As the name suggests, ‘Blip’ on….the A centres around an incessant beep motif, slowly treated and effectedover time as the tune develops – sliding breaks, deep punchy bass, and then those gorgeous shimmering chords evolving throughout. On the B, Gatekeeper tackles Appleblim’s Skull Disco anthem ‘Vansan’ – expounding the original themes of texture created by delay and reverb and incorporating them into a 140bpm technical jungle piece. 9/10 [recommended] DJ Thinking IDJ Magazine.
