DIS049 – Marcus Intalex – Stark / Virgo – 12″ Vinyl
Dispatch Recordings is proud to count the Manchester legend among its ranks from now on. You can’t have missed one of the numerous top notch sounds he’s been providing throughout his long career. He is now gathering a forward thinking and historically self conscious music that we could easily define as pretty unique in its genre. The Soul :R boss offers us this time a really valuable glimpse of what D&B should be nowadays : inventive, energetic and technically perfect. When all these elements meet the great sense of groove of the big Soul master, you have a result you can genuinely be happy with. So are we.A. ‘Stark’ Classic tune ! No doubt nobody else would have been able to orchestrate that well so a large scape of unexpected tonalities. These mastered wobbles and swinging rythm make definitely up Marcus’ secret weapons. Some pure electric sounds dive you in a delicious nostalgic style of his own. The final result : afuriously original dance song.AA. ‘Virgo’ This is first a matter of musicality. A lively & lovely lead which is redolent of some of the biggest D&B anthems. A peerless technical and musical knowhow we can feel at every step of the tune. That percussive drum slightly enveloped by an ethereal melody creates a perfect wellbalanced ambiance. Absolute dancefloor killer.DJ support from: Ant TC1, Rob Da Bank, Calibre, Artificial Intelligence, Doc Scott, Fabio, Marky, DBridge,Rockwell, Octane & DLR, Need For Mirrors, Dabs, Lenzman, Survival, Youngsta, Skeptical, to name a few.

SYMM010 – Break / Xtrah – They’re Wrong / Cyrax – 12″ Vinyl
Having smashed dancefloors with ‘Framework’, Break returns with a different flavour & reminding people just how versatile he can be, while retaining the excellence he strives for every time.”They’re wrong” is pure heaven, with it’s funky guitar licks and sublime pads, already touted as one of the tunes of 2012 with heavy rotation from Dj Marky & Ltj Bukem. Once you hear the vocal, you’ll know the tune. In keeping with Break’s idea to find the very best new skool talent, the flip side “Cyrax” is a monster track by the much talked about Xtrah! Straight up gnarly bass tones, sick percussion and heavy beats fit perfectly on the Symmetry label and completes another must-have single.

REDSEAL014 – ASC – Droids / Never Enough – 12″ Vinyl
Limited coloured vinyl: Solid blue, crystal clear & white mixed. Mutant cyber funk from the man behind Auxilliary, Symbol and one of the albums that has come to signify the Autonomic sound. ‘Droids’ follows ‘Brainscan’ perfectly. A muted power break jabs its way to the drop where it is joined by a writhing bassline, snippets of a classic break and signifying bleeps that mark this as the closest Drum and Bass can get to techno without a 4/4. The layers great techno music is known for are also taken care of here, with the power of every element wrung out to its true potential. ‘Never Enough’ is a drum workout of the highest order, with filters wrapping themselves around the twisting break edits, claps and steadying bassline. Vinyl buyers get an exclusive ambient piece …sshhhhhhh.
DJ Support from dBridge, Loxy, Consequence, Synkro, Indigo, Presha and many more.

PC082 – Limewax – JiJ / Fuenf – 12″ Vinyl
The Ukrainian child prodigy cum dnb mastermind Limewax delivers two stunning examples of studio wizardry. On the a-side we find JiJ, a melodic and uplifting anthem with big breakdowns and even bigger drops. With the flip Limewax skillfully merges 3-4 individual tunes into one tearing behemoth of a track. AM007 – Alaska – Arcosphere / Moraine – 12″ Vinyl
Arctic Music celebrates 16 years of Alaska with the new 2012 release Arcosphere / Moraine.Just when you thought Alaska couldn’t top AM006’s Boreal / Isochime the programmer steps up another gear and unleashes Arcosphere / Moraine for the die-hard ambient-jungle lovers.Arcosphere is simply ‘beautiful drum and bass’. Ambient pads and trademark funky breaks gather pace and on the 1:50 mark the bass drops with guitar hooks that melt you instantly and you feel the warmth and identity of Arcosphere. Layers of ambience and breaks unfold building the vibe up to a gorgeous breakdown at 4:45 demonstrating Alaska’s 16 years of experience to perfection. Close your eyes and let the sounds of Arcosphere take you away on a journey of bliss.Moraine is ethereal Alaska back in the hot seat. Dreamy strings hook you from the word go and you would presume a calm ride was ahead, however Alaska is the master of raw breakbeats and a powerful harsh 1970’s funk break appears from nowhere destroying all in it’s path whilst letting the strings breath on their own to lead Moraine into an atmospheric crescendo.Arctic Music is proud to be the only label releasing this style of drum and bass on vinyl, flying the union jack for ambient jungle the world over.

SUBTLE016 – NCQL – The Framed Dreams Of Loki – 12″ Vinyl
NCQL annouces himself in no uncertain fashion with the anthemic strings of “The Framed Dreams Of Loki”. The track nods to DJ Premier, Prefuse 73 and classic Metalheadz D&B Hidden Agenda style and there’s a subtle (!) reference to a certain classic 90s rave tune in there aswell. It sounds like a mess – it’s anything but ! This is uplifting breakbeat at it’s very best. It’s not often a tune gets played twice by Bailey on his BBC 1Xtra show in the space of a month, so this must be something special. The flipside has a similar organic & uplifting aesthetic. A strutting break is the base for a deluge of warmth in the shape of synths, strings, flutes, harp and vocals – an unusual sound palette for a Drum & Bass track these days but refreshing to hear. DJ Flight thought so and has aired it on one of her “Next Chapter” Rinse FM broadcasts.

Following on from his massive cross genre hit ‘Computation’ Dismantle hit’s us again with his first release on Terrain, N-Types jungle influenced Dubstep label. Both tracks have been kept very exclusive, to keep the dubplate vibe alive.Broke: Deep dark and dangerous, rolling breaks and tribal percussion alongside jungalist pads and thunderous bass. This one tears down the dance in the best way possible. Dark, but energetic, a staple in N-Type set. Time’s up: Similar darkness but more steppy. This one hits you hard with tearing hoovers, powerful lfo’s and all the atmosphere from a 90′s warehouse rave, in a 2011 style.
ORCA005 – XI – Immunity / Squeeze – 12″ Vinyl
Following the huge success of xxxy’s summer anthem ‘Open Your Eyes’, Orca Recordings is back to deliver its highly anticipated fifth instalment; which sees Canadian born artist XI return to the label for his third release on the label. With his new outing on Orca, XI’s musical style has evolved considerably to incorporate a whole new set of influences and ideas. This bold move coincides with his imminent arrival in Berlin, which leads us to proudly announce that the productions set for release in the Orca series are ‘Immunity’ and ‘Squeeze’.‘Immunity’ sees XI venture into new sonic territory, dropping the bpm to a tempo usually applied to house & techno, but this track keeps all the swing and swagger of the finest UK garage record. This combined with XI’s trademark palette of sonic textures, vocal edits and a nod to the haziest of west coast hip-hop has created a deeply original composition with a unique vibe.On the flip, ‘Squeeze’ is another experiment into this freshly styled structure that XI has created, but with the dance floor more in mind. The introduction breeds tension as the drums roll from side to side, before a patterned vocal stab is brought in to focus the main body of the composition. Both of these productions are a clear indication of XI’s creative flair and taste for new sounds. Allowing this to develop has been the primary focus of Orca and this ethos is now starting to pay dividends to all fans of the Orca Recordings catalogue.

DB063 – DJ Cra$Y (BrEaCh Remixes) – DJ Cra$Y (BrEaCh Remixes) – 12″ Vinyl
I first met Ben Westbeech (BrEaCh) at a dinner in London. He was sitting across from me and I found out he made “Fatherless” a year ago which interested me right away. We got to chatting and the conversation took an unexpected turn and i heard the following story. As a kid BrEaCh grew up in Hertford, north of London, where early UK rave pioneers like Omni Trio and 2 Bad Mice where from. His Dad was friends with 2 Bad Mice and was surrounded by musicians and DJs. 2 Bad Mice had a friend called Paul, aka DJ Cra$Y. He used to make tunes back in the early rave days but sadly did too many pills and went mad. When Paul was taken into mental care his old dat format tapes got left at BrEaCh’s Dad’s house. 20 years later, BrEaCh found them in the garage in and old box marked “music.” He started listening through and found some cool old jungle vibes going on. The tracks ‘Just – E’ and ‘I Need You’ are remixes of two of the tracks found on the old DJ Cra$Y recording sessions… These are a rare hybrid crossover records between jungle and house and they are massive. So peace to Dj Cra$y wherever you are and respect to BrEaCh for putting these together. best, VonStroke.

CHST016 – Tunnidge & Distance – Aftershock / Blame – 12″ Vinyl
Having had one of his most successful years to date during 2011, releasing the immense ‘Falling’ on Island Records, dubstep stalwart DJ Distance kicks off 2012 on his own beloved Chestplate imprint to assert his grip on the scene he’s played such a large part in shaping since its inception. Heading up CHST016 is longtime sparring partner and Chestplate affiliate Tunnidge, who as ever gets ready to drop some seriously dangerous aural artillery on us. Get ready, speaker’s gonna shake!‘Aftershock’ rolls out hard! A seemingly short intro of eerie pads and blip fx give way to one hell of a barrage of bass that’ll have you wincing with pleasure as it rattles your ribcage and forces you to submit. Raw, analogue sounding, distorted but punching dubstep that takes no prisoners. Essential dance floor dynamite.Flipping over and Tunnidge is joined by Distance on ‘Blame’, a deep brooding slab of bass music that won’t fail to move you. Cinematic soundscapes abound as it kicks off, setting the scene perfectly. Whispered vocals, industrial palettes of percussion and a sinister seeping riff make for a drop into a classy piece of rootsy dubstep that sits perfectly on a label that always stays true to the cause. One for the soldiers.

PHREAKS026 – Diesel – Chew Your Brains Feat Captain Crunch – 12″ Vinyl
Audio Phreaks are proud to present an astonishing new EP from their exciting new signing, Diesel! Diesel has been locked away in the Studio perfecting his sound to a very high production level and you can instantly hear this boy has been putting in the hours since his earlier recordings. His productions are just insane and are certainly not for those who are looking out for an easy listen. Basslines and beats collide with some very imaginative arrangements that make up a truly unique and distinct sound that only can be associated with the rising young talent that is Diesel. “Chew Your Brains” Featuring scratching from Captain Crunch is a 100BPM roller with more wobble than a jelly on a train! Then Durty Phresh (Formally Mr Vermin) is on remix duties and gives it a 140BPM twist that is sounding very fresh indeedy! It’s got that Thugstep swagger that Durty Phesh executes so well and gives the tune a totally different flavour. “Play that Funky Bassline” is a new style of Dubstep that seems to be flying around at the moment that infuses Dubstep with some Funky flavours of the past. “Make the beat Bite” is the last track on this incredible EP that features Brotherhood of Filth and MC Maksim. Another 100BPM recording with a proper edgy, Grimy influence that is immaculately produced.

FRJ011 – Atki2 – Knock Knock / Vietnam – 7″ Vinyl
After cutting his teeth on the respected Werk Discs back in 2005, Sam Atkins has had sporadic and sparse output under this alias. So, it’s good to see Atki2 back with some fresh titbits for 2012. Knock Knock and Vietnam have a wonderful cockeyed dancehall characteristic to them, think the 90’s heavily electronic styles from the likes of Fashion, Steely & Clevie, Taxi labels, with it’s twisted and often weird electronics but all within a dagger inducing locked groove. Get to know. 7/10 (Mark Gurney, DJ Magazine).

RECIPE003 Set Up – Spirit Ingredients Records 12″ Vinyl
It’s the third instalment on Ingredients Records, a label that not only supplies you with quality Drum & Bass, but also a unique insight into the artists culinary skills, as each vinyl release comes with a recipe card inserted into the sleeve. Spirit needs no introduction! After releasing many classics for the last 14 years on labels such as CIA, Metalheadz, Renegade Hardware, Shogun Audio & his own imprints Phantom Audio & Inneractive. Known for his dark, techno influences he twists up the formula for “Set-Up” that fuses ethereal pads, Bristol bass & a soaring phase and is unlike anything he’s ever done before!
Flip for the techno tinged “Night Drive”. This is Spirit all over with hypnotic bleeps, marching rhythm & acid bass twists.
DJ support.. Andy C, Marcus Intalex, DJ Lee, A-Sides, Presha, Psylence.

Vampire has constant evolution and is a platform for established artists and up and coming talent. The birth of the label was at the end of 2006. It has grown from strength to strength over the last couple of years. Vampire is still growing to this day but it has staying power in the world of Drum and Bass. It is up to its 10th single release and on April 1st 2009 it released its first label album “Once Bitten Twice High”. All releases on the label are still selling which proves that the music has shelf life and is non-disposable. It was very important to Phil Source at the birth of the label that it would have credibility with the old school, as well as the new breed of Drum and Bass fan.

INMD006 Storms By Street Light / I Heart You – Well Being Influenza Media 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. With its two year anniversary just around the corner, Influenza brought a pair of powerhouse tunes to the table in a newcomer named Well Being. With releases on Red Mist Recordings and Focuz this artist looks to be a very promising addition to the Influenza roster. With his thick, soulful basslines and spine-chilling melodies, this guy might be one you’re gonna want to look out for in the next few years. Happy two year anniversary, Influenza! May the next year be blessed with blissful pads, sweeping basslines and vocals that are spine tingling! Both tracks are of epic proportions on this release, but are also very different. I Heart You is one deep stepper that features a soulful vocal with an equally deep bassline. Once the bass drops, don’t be surprised to see the dancefloor come alive! Storms by Stretlight is a lot more uptempo, but the bassline still rocks like none other. Expect these two to rattle your subs, and take you to other realms of dancefloor tranquility. Looking forward to see more Well Being in the future!

KOKESHI002 Afterlife – Lung Kokeshi 12″ Vinyl
Kokeshi is the new label from Alley Cat, DJ/producer and co-director of ESP Agency with 12 years+ of music industry experience. Lung : Afterlife / Time – 19-year-old discovery Lung, from Cardiff has only been producing for a short time but has managed to make some of the most moving sounds this year. Having already featured on Mary Anne Hobbs’ BBCs Radio 1 Experimental show, he’s been slowly building a grassroots following through two local DJ residencies and online support (dubstepforum.com) and will undoubtedly reach a much bigger audience as his first release on Kokeshi takes flight. ‘Afterlife’ features layers of pads and effects with an eerie vocal and gut wrenching sub. Support on Radio 1, and various UK and international web and college radio stations. One for the floor, and one for the ipod. ‘Time’ offers a nod to old school d’n’b/jungle with its breaks and its piano riff, yet Lung still pulls off his signature emo-dub-tastic style with ease, making it sound new and fresh. Given the thumbs up by TRG and Vaccine.

DKX001 66/31 – binary sequence Dark Arx 12″ Vinyl
For its debut release, Dark Arx presents a 3-track single of gritty, emotive electronic music by Binary Sequence. Binary Sequence operates in the margins of UK dubstep channelling his influences through a painstaking process of deconstruction and distortion. The resulting tracks are gems of electronica, simultaneously beautiful and sonically fierce. Based in London, Binary Sequence has been playing, writing and producing music for 20 years. Before being swept up in the electronica of the late 90s, he spent years tackling the mind-bending harmonics and rhythms of 60s & 70s jazz as a saxophonist and pianist. While starting to write his own music, he began to explore the possibilities of electronic production and after much experimentation and refinement he has created a unique sound, combining dusty distortion with pristine production values. Sonic comparisons point to Pole, Dabrye and Burial – but Binary Sequence’s musicality is rooted in “Artificial Intelligence”-era electronica (Aphex Twin, Autechre, Black Dog).
DKX002 by Dark Arx will be released in March 2010.

MEDI026 My World – Mizz Beats Deep Medi Musik 12″ Vinyl
Set to shine in 2010, Mizz Beats is the 22 year-old from Hackney (East London) who aided and abetted labelmate Silkie in the creation of one of this year’s certified bangers: ‘Purple Love’. Earning her stripes in the midst of the UK’s grime scene, she has already produced for the likes of Dizzee Rascal, Jammer and Lady Sovereign and she is undoubtedly one of the Anti Social Entertainment clique’s brightest prospects alongside Quest, Silkie, Kromestar, J5, Harry Craze and Heny G. Mizzy’s debut 12” on DEEP MEDi Musik showcases both her versatility and a lightness of touch that belies her years. ‘My World’ marries sloping half-step drums, offhand tom rolls and cleverly constructed synth work, conjuring a wickedly melodious groove. On the flip, ‘The Jester’ zips off in a different direction, carried by tougher, stripped-back drums and myriad 8-bit Gameboy bleeps, zaps and bumps. An altogether clubbier affair, but no less sophisticated, fans of Gemmy and Joker will undoubtedly approve.

3024006 Remixes 1/2 – Martyn 3024 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. Ending the brief hiatus that followed the ‘Great Lengths’ LP and accompanying world tour Martyn and 3024 usher in the new decade with a brace of remixes from the deepest recesses of the quasi-house community. First out the gates is 3024-006, helmed by a pair of artists as unique as they are elusive; Zomby and Redshape. Easily one of the most talked about new producers of the last few years Zomby continues to evolve upwards and out, never settling on a particular style and constantly twisting the technicolour DNA of his output. Those smeared neon fingerprints are all over his reworking of Hear Me’ which lights up clattering percussion and a black hole of a bass drop with layers of sparkling neon crystal SID chip melodies. Tackling ‘Seventy Four’ on the flip side is determinedly enigmatic Techno classicist Redshape. Responsible for a string of unashamedly human releases since 2006, his rich organic sound has recently caught the imagination of a 4×4 scene beginning to look beyond icy [and boring] minimalism for inspiration. A highlight of the forthcoming Fabric 50: Martyn mix CD, the original’s glowering pulse is carefully built on with walls of murky analogue warmth and hissing industrial ambience before reaching a monolithic climax.
An integral part of every 3024 release, Erosie once again blesses this release with his inimitable visual style switching up to a monochrome design this time around.

Super limited 10” of Stuck Various Production & Guido Remixes. Once upon a time there was a girl called Lauren. She lived in grassy, green Madison County, Tennessee where people are as sweet as the tea they make. She’d sing songs in her yard and run around with ballerinas, big kitty cats and her brothers all the livelong day. One winter evening Lauren decided she wanted a change of scenery. She wanted to leave her comfortable grasslands and start a joyride. She traveled far to La La land and danced with the faeries in Beverly Hills, all the while humming along to Bob Marley and playing pianos. Then Lauren ventured to Gotham City(out of a pure and deep love for Batman)to take to the stages of the great White Way as a long-haired bohemian. Now 6 years, 5 tattoos, 4 electric tea kettles, 3 cities, 2 tours and 1 Nord keyboard later, she’s in the bushes with the shepherds of London, singing of her homeland with the Lolo Army ready for the next round of life attacks. Lauren knows life is first-rate come what may. The End.

PROPH116 AO – MJ Cole feat. Serocee Prolific Recordings 12″ Vinyl
Production legend and one time MERCURY MUSIC PRIZE nominee MJ COLE hooks up with MC SEROCEE for the ragga flavoured basement house tune of the summer. AO is the follow up single to “Gotta Have It” feat. Digga released earlier this year in the lead up to MJ Cole’s much anticipated third album release. Proving his versatility once again, MJ steps up for this dirty work out with Serocee’s infectious ragga flow complete with the momentous “AAAAOOO” hook that will keep clubs jumping all summer long. SEROCEE is one of the hottest MC’s on the scene today fresh from his latest collaboration with TODDLA T on the massive “Sound Tape Killing”, he now joins MJ to contribute his upbeat party style verse to AO… Along with the firing original version, AO also features a signature MJ DUBB as well as a remix from Manchester beat master ZED BIAS. Zane Lowe, Annie Mac, Mistajam, Sinden, Target and Toddla T support achieved.

BLR002 After The Night – Martin Kemp Blunted Robots 12″ Vinyl
The follow up to his genre-fusing debut, No Charisma, sees Martin Kemp with his boney little fingers firmly on the weird switch. Best described as sounding ‘like Carl Craig making UK Funky’, our Martin is way darker than that bloke off Eastenders, and here lies the proof…DJs showing love include Alex Nut, Joy Orbison, Zomby, Jackmaster, Ross Allen, Untold, Brodinski, Hessle Audio and Geiom.

DVA004 The Jelly Roll EP – Scratcha DVA DVA Music 12″ Vinyl
Limited Edition Purple Vinyl. Scratcha DVA is not just the charismatic host of Rinse Fm’s breakfast show, he’s one of the UK’s most accomplished producers. An associate of Terror Danjah from the late 90′s, DVA supplied dubs to Dj Slimzee during grimes early days and has produced for luminaries of the scene like Wiley, Trim, Chipmunk, Tinchy Stryder and more. More recently Scratcha has collaborated with beacons of the UK Funky scene like Roska, Cooly G, D-Malice and more while still releasing grime anthems like ‘Nasty Nasty Nasty’ and ‘Bullet Ago Fly’. The Jelly Roll Ep has already gained support from Marcus Nasty, Geeneus, Joker, Kode 9, Cooly G, Sinden and more. Built around a super-synthetic bassline its title track sqirms and shakes around stinging snares whilst ‘Guro Triba’ is a little on the more conventional side of House & Funky. Remixes comes from True Tigers Sukh Knight, who gives Nasty Nasty Nasty the creeping dubstep treatment, whilst Funky don Roska gives it his unique “Kicks and Snares” midas touch.
