New D&B Releases

OK020 OK020 The Remixes – Raiden Offkey 12″ Vinyl
This is a landmark release for Offkey Music. It marks twenty releases in the last five years. From singles to EPs to an Album It has been tough but equally rewarding experience. The label has reached beyond our expectations and we wanted to mark it suitably, Thus for this release we are proud to bring you two remixes from the labels back catalogue, courtesy of Inneractive’s Spirit & Shogun Audio’s Icicle.
Raiden- M82: Spirit Remix: The original track was a rolling yet edit heavy drum work out from Raiden, big on the bass and rich textures as you would expect. M82 signalled a new concentration on bass weight from Raiden and began to prick the ears of deejays. Spirit was one of the first to pick up on the track so there was no better choice for the rework, Spirit has further stripped back the track to its core elements and has in turn found another groove to exploit, A great rework from a dance music veteran. Pounding bass and stepping drums are the order of the day!
Raiden & Khanage: King Stays King: Icicles Royal Treatment: ‘Kings’ is a track that has achieved the honour of being the most played track in the labels history, the list of deejays who played the original reads like a who’s who of drum n bass. There were few choices for remixing the track, Icicle was number one the list and to the labels pleasure, the coldest producer in the land jumped at the chance & delivered everything you would expect, juggernaught drums laced with only the best bass from the Dutch wonder. As soon as the track went public the reactions were instantaneous, rounding off a landmark release for Offkey Music. Heres to the future!

CRIT047 Back To The Jungle / Who Jah Bless – Bladerunner / Serum & Bladerunner Critical Music 12″ Vinyl
Calling all foot-soldiers to the floor! Hold your positions as Critical stand firm ready to drop one of its most rowdy releases in quite some time. Looking back to go forward we see Bladerunner and Serum going in hard with a 12” brimming with jungle riddims guaranteed to have the rudest of rudeboys skanking out as Critical shows its undeniable versatility once more. Bladerunner steps up first with the evocative, cinematic intro of ‘Back To the Jungle’, that manages to set the scene perfectly for what’s to come with tomtom hits, deep forest atmospherics and a certain “every time I think I’m gonna wake up back in the jungle..” sample. As he says it that’s exactly what we do as in crash the breaks, mentasm stabs and the largest of basslines that takes so things old-skool you could almost swear it was 1994 again. Sometimes they really do make them like they used to and we’re very pleased that they do, phenomenal. Teaming up with Serum on the flip sees the pair continuing the theme with ‘Who Jah Bless’, another excursion right back to the roots. Skipping breaks, bleep fx and sax pave the way to one of the all time classic studio techniques synonymous with jungle/drum & bass – the time-stretched vocal! Sitting perfectly in the mix it signals the drop of smashing drums, massive rise & fall bass and pitch shifting snares that finish this one off with a touch of class. Another very special Critical release indeed. DJ support from Andy C, Hype, Friction, Cyantific, Logistics and many more.

BMT003 Natural History Remixes: Part 1 – Blu Mar Ten Blu Mar Ten 12″ Vinyl
This summer, Blu Mar Ten follows up the success of their 2009 LP ‘Natural History’ with a two-part set of remixes that bring together the finest in fresh and established talent from across the globe. DJ support is coming in from right across the scene, including London Elektricity, Friction, Doc Scott, Lynx, John B, Nookie and many more.
Overwhelm (Seba remix): Seba assaults the calm of the original ‘Overwhelm’ with a battery of old skool breaks and signature cosmic sweeps that recall the highlights of the Good Looking Records era. Lifting the tune away from the bedroom and up towards the dancefloor Seba’s remix has immediately become a favourite of some of the biggest names in d&b, effortlessly demonstrating why he’s remained at the top of the game for more than 15 years. Seba’s remix of ‘Overwhelm’ is featured on DJ Friction’s forthcoming mix CD for Ministry of Sound.
Believe Me (Bop remix): Bop takes the opposite route with his interpretation of ‘Believe Me’, opening up a bottomless well of reverb and throwing the components of the original into it, piece by piece. The result is a beautiful inversion of the original, showcasing the near-beatless melancholy the young Russian has become famous for.

INMD007 Only Words DNB VIP / All The Time – Blue Motion Influenza Media 12″ Vinyl
Anyone that’s been paying attention to the more chilled out spectrum of drum & bass might find Influenza label owner, Eros causing quite a stir as of late. 2009 saw releases on Golden Orb, InnerGround, Fokuz, Good Looking and of course, Influenza Media; and collaborations with Paul SG, Atmospherix, Mutt, The Square and Soulgrifter. But Eros’ latest project, and perhaps most impressive, is his collaboration with Dirrrty B as Blue Motion. Since November 2009, these two have pressed their driven, upbeat sound into a plethora of labels including Phunkfiction, Good Looking, Fokuz, Ingredients,Future Thinkin, Temper D Productions, Vibez, Peer Pressure, Amen Brother,Point 9 Audio, Funk Star and many more. As we come into this fantastic release, we are met by the mystifying but beautiful intro of Only Words VIP. As if climbing a mountain, the layers just continue to build – synths, bass, rolling drums, and, of course, what melodic track wouldn’t be complete without a few angelic wind instruments? As the break rolls through, the melody rebuilds creating a state of ecstasy once again. All The Time chills it out a bit, bringing forth the soul element with Grimm on vocals. A beautifully constructed string bassline leads the way to the drop, as atmospheric trumpet riffs ring in the background. Get touched on this one!

G-ILLA005 Guilty / Black Monday – Krusha Guerilla 12″ Vinyl
GUERILLA 05 12″ Features non other than George Krakus aka KRUSHA ‘Guilty’ is one for the deep rooted soldiers. Epic strings and orchestra sweeps encompass wild roaring amens and rediculous glitches. And just when you thin its over .. the tune really works out the madness of Krusha’s mind. he only thing this record is Guilty of is smashing it up. ‘Black Monday’ totally lets Krusha expirement with the industrial – hard metal edge found in alot of his earlier releases on label’s such as Barcode & Obscene. The intro creeps in. Winding around like a whirlpool till it drops into haltime rickus of eachoes and bass squelches. Grinding metal riffs all the way thru this piece. Defintley one for the die hard Krusha fans.

PM020 Eternalism / Paralyze Babylon – Paradox / Equinox Paradox Music 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy promo. The 60th 12” across the Paradox labels has landed! and to mark PM020 in style Paradox Music has finally added the legendary Equinox to their artist roster after nearly a decade of requests. ‘Paralyze Babylon’ oozes funk and dnb knowledge as Marlon Equinox demonstrates that it is possible to roll linear edited breaks (a paradox in itself). Low subs rumble underneath fx and reggae vocals whilst a great 808 b-line complements dirty amen loops that swing left-to-right, but still have that paramount linear funk – a simple master class in breakbeat science. Paradox switches his amen eq to complement ‘Paralyze Babylon’ for a raw jungle workout on the flip. ‘Eternalism’ is uncooked meat Paradox style! Crusty low pitch patterns with a heavy bass kick pedal keep everything in check whilst fx and eerie film samples swirl around intricate reverse breaks that don’t fall down the stairs. DJ Support: Utah Jazz, Bailey, Zero T, Gremlinz, Naibu, Alley Cat, Soul Intent, Fracture & Neptune.

PRODUCT009 Turn The Page / Chamber – Craggz & Parallel Product Recordings 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy promo. September signals a welcome return to the scene by two of D&B’s most respected characters, Craggz & Parallel, and it couldn’t have come a moment too soon. Since releasing their debut ‘Northern Soul’ LP on Valve back in 2006 the pair have stepped back, regrouped and are now ready to come full force with a brand new super-fresh sound that’s sure to raise heads throughout the scene. Drawing on influences from electronic music past and present from early techno sounds, 80’s synth-pop through to a myriad of contemporary dance music genres, Craggz & Parallel have created a truly unique and daring album sure to quench the most discerning and dance floor tastes whilst challenging the more traditional drum and bass album ideals. Even reverting back to analogue production techniques to combine with the modern creates an experience unlike any other around today so keep you ears open for the genius new sounds of Craggz & Parallel. The first Vinyl 12” features Turn The Page & Chamber Kicking off in fine style the title track opens with an epic intro awash with crooked bottle-nose FXand pads that mesmerize. Creeping bass tones follow until the drop into a massive hard-stepping slice of menacing technoid D&B that’s sure to bring out the screw-face in all who hear it. Then doing things a little differently, ‘Chamber’ features a stripped back approach that works a nasty bass-wave riff into a seriously intense slice of dark drum and bass. One for the more adventurous dance floors.
“I don’t really say things like this much, but Craggz & Parallel are about to flip D&B on its head…” Breakage
“Analogue synths, drum machines & +170bpm = Top album. C&P FTW!!” dBridge
“Craggz & Parallel have taken a bold step towards a much deeper, more mature and personal sound; locking themselves away for 2 years has resulted in a truly inspirational album that will turn a lot of heads. One of the best releases in 2010 by some way, this
definitely gets the Flight seal of approval.” DJ Flight

LABCD002 Puppets – Truth Aquatic Lab Records CD
Since their debut appearance on Deep Medi Music, Truth has been hard at work on their LP and now it’s ready to drop. With the initial album sampler (LAB010 ‘Dead Silence’ & ‘Burglar’) laying the foundations, the second 12” LAB011 (forthcoming on 9th August) reinforces with ‘Juno’ & ‘Under Current’, two huge stepper grooves layered with more than enough weight for the shockout. The album itself ‘Puppets’ is a dense trip through moody big bass-driven soundscapes that include some of their finest work in the form of ‘The Fatman’, ‘Lab Rat’ and a VIP of the previously released ‘Terror Planet’. Also on the roster, Truth’s ‘Legion’, possibly their most sought-after riddim to date, which brings their trademark sound signatures of sweeping synths and massive amounts of bass fully into place. ‘Pup- pets’ touches on many styles such as the liquid offering of ‘Indigo Mood’, or the almost genre defying vocal lick ‘Don’t Explain’. ‘Puppets’ is a full bodied experience from start to finish – for darkly elegant dubstep it doesn’t get much better than this. Truth have received DJ support around the globe from artists such as Mala, Skream, Joe Nice, Breakage, Hatcha and N Type, with their beats being dropped at shows from Club Love in New York City to DMZ in London, as well as featur- ing on radio stations BBC Radio One, Kiss and Rinse. Two comprehensive Europe tours and a string of gigs around Australia and Asia, have included an appearance at the legendary DMZ night in Brixton and the infamous Sub Dub in Leeds. Truth’s big riddims have been quickly snatched up by a number of established labels such as seminal Deep Medi Musik and Skream’s Disfigured Dubs. Alix Perez has included his collaboration with Truth on his debut album ’1984′ and the group have remixed the likes of The Nextmen, Ms Dynamite and Silverclub.

Soundsystem music, Dub music. Unmistakeably Peverelist. Cut LOUD for DJs. Peverelist is the lynchpin of the Bristol dubstep music scene. A coveted dub by the likes of Skream, Joe Nice, NType and Benga. Flip over for ‘Under Current’, a new school drum dub excursion in collaboration with ‘The Pendulum Man’ Ben Verse. The end result is a ramp up bass roller with tight percussion. Already a fixture in the sets of NType & Youngsta.

CMPD007 Get Loose – Landslide Remix / Fracture & Qualifide 170bpm Remix – Compound One Compound Records 12″ Vinyl
Compound One started as a concept while they were at the pioneering Dubstep club night FWD. Fracture had been checking out the emerging Dubstep sound and Qualifide was then hosting a weekly show on Rinse FM and had begun to mix dubstep in with his usual garage style. The timing was right, the studio session was booked…’Get Loose’ was unleashed!
LANDSLIDE REMIX: What can be said about this remix? It’s next level! Landslide has done what only he can do and has managed to completely change the vibe of the track by taking it down a more bouncy, jazzy, garage route but at the same time keeping the low end and vibe of Get Loose in tact. Layers upon layers of Landslide’s trademark chords & sound FX, intricate programming & solid drums cause this classic remix send shivers down your spine!
FRACTURE & QUALIFIDE 170bpm REMIX: Compound One revert to their original aliases and totally flip the script with a back to the roots deep Drum and Bass remix as a salute to their heritage. With the boundries between D&B and Dubstep slowly blurring they thought it would be the perfect time to write their first D&B collaberation since 1996! It features all the rudeness of the original but ups the tempo to give the track a new pace and feeling.

ASC004 Thru The Blinds / Love – Kromestar Cloqworq Recordings 12″ Vinyl
This white label promo release needs no introduction as one of the leading pioneers of UK Dubstep provides the second release written especially for Anti Social’s Cloqworq Records. DJ Kromestar has proved his talent time and time again over the past four years through a string of releases with the infamous Deep Medi label and Dubstar Records, alongside others. Kromestar has broken boundaries from the very start of his career producing club smashers such as ‘Get Up’ and ‘Kalawanji’ aswell as bringing to you the more soulful, meditational vibes such as ‘Galactic War’ from the debut album ‘My Sound’ and not to mention a barrage of anthems he released on the mix compilation last year entitled ‘The Other Side’ which he describes as strictly experimental 140. DJ Kromestar has and will be one to watch for the foreseeable future standing as one of the most exciting and not to mention groundbreaking producers to have entered the genre. ‘Thru The Blinds’ is a clever combination of sub low bass pressure with the eerie yet emotive atmospherics to put any dancefloor into a meditational trance – Dark and moody dub vibes with a killer low end sub over a tribal beat pattern in true Kromestar style. This is a real stomper of a hit. ‘Love’ takes a different stance on the B side delving into the more experimental side of this producer’s catalogue – smooth, eclectic pads dropping into low down sub stabs over another unconventional but highly effective beat. This represents the other side to the anti social sound which can only be described of as the deeper liquid Dubstep sound in trademark style.
Both tracks have had support on the highly acclaimed rinse fm on a weekly basis (WWW.RINSE.FM) and are receiving heavy rotation from DJs such as SKREAM, MALA AND N-TYPE in the clubs and not to mention major dubstep icons such as HATCHA from KISS
100 and MARYANNE HOBBS from RADIO 1, This highlights the versatility of these tracks and the potential to cross into Dj sets from different genres. These are both long awaited releases having caused a lot of interest on dubstepforum.com as well as having been reviewed on various portals and online magazines such as GetDarker.com and also residentadvisor.net – a real must for all serious dubsteppers worldwide

Since her debut EP for Hyperdub early last year, which won accolades everywhere from the Guardian to Mixmag to Music Week, Cooly G has become firmly established as an in-demand producer and remixer, touring the world as a DJ. She is also starting her own label, with new music due for release soon. This is her second proper Hyperdub single, which follows the ‘Hyperdub 5.5’ EP she shared last year with Mala from Digital Mystikz. Side A is the utterly dreamy ‘Up In My Head’, a blissful track built around Cooly’s vocals, lush sheets of chords and pulsing drums that sound like a never ending build up. Side AA, ‘Phat Si’ is, in contrast, a frantic swirling drama where drums and abstract bleeps and stabs snake around each other over tough as leather drums and pulsing dread bass.

New D&B Releases

NONPLUS006 Nothing Is Certain LP 12” Sampler – ASC Nonplus Records 12″ Vinyl
This is the 12″ sampler for ‘Nothing Is Certain’. The main event is set to follow very shortly after. The wait is nearly over! The Autonomic crew have been at the forefront of the movement currently breathing new life into Drum & Bass music. Whether through their fantastic series of podcasts or releases on DBridge’s Exit & Instra:Mental’s NonPlus record labels, people are starting to take notice. No stranger to DnB himself with releases under his belt on Covert Ops and Nu-Directions to name a few, producer James Clements aka ASC was called up in late 2009 for the 3rd release on Nonplus, and the rest is history. With his tracks being featured on dBridge & Instra:mental’s recent Fabriclive mix & ASC is a name you’re going to be hearing a lot more of.

NONPLUSLP001 Nothing Is Certain LP – ASC Nonplus Records 12″ Vinyl x 3
Since his first appearance on Nonplus, ASC has been hard at work on his LP and its finally here. Starting with a 12” sampler he dives right in at the deep end with ‘Phobos’ in which electronic grooves and micro samples entwine against a backdrop of dramatic tones and industrial hits. Followed on the same side by the atmospheric hiatus ‘Oort Cloud’ you have a good inclination of the impending album by now, but are also treated to the AA-side ‘Matter Of Time’. Like a continuation of his debut Nonplus 12” track ‘Porcelain’, his
crafty use of oriental sounding percussion, windlike sounds and melodies combined with an efficacious bass line make this track very hard to listen to in its entirety before you reach for the reset. The album touches on many genres from start to finish such as the 4×4 offering of ‘Textura’, or the almost indescribable step of ‘Yatta’, but one common theme that this album holds throughout is the amalgamation of influences derived from all genres of music and ASC’s ability to combine these to create something new and unique. Collaborations with fellow Nonplus artist Vaccine and Exit Records artist Consequence add fuel to the fire, keeping it burning hot from start to finish. Nonplus Records proudly present…….…..ASC – “Nothing Is certain”

b ASC – Fade Away Seasons (Ft. Consequence)

TRNSL006 Denile / A Chain Of Red – Grimm & Nusense / Resound Translation Records 12″ Vinyl
Translation Recordings is proud to unveil the first pairing of tunes from debut LP/compilation “Without Borders.” Rinsed by DJs to include Grooverider, Anile, Sinistarr, and Stunna, “Denile” is a collaboration between Canada-based artists Grimm & Nusense. The duo deliver a stripped-back and cavernous steppa, with deep low-end rumble, acid squelches, and reverberated dubstyle chords. The flip welcomes the return of Translation veteran and Finnish dnb all-star Resound in the futuristic sounds of “A Chain of Red,” where floating synth pads weave through a crunchy, 8-bit tone sequence. Spliced drum edits at the drop quickly change the uplifting opening vibe into a more sinister and moody one that is charged by an electrified synth bass wall. Meanwhile, a combination of congas, snares, and hi-hats punch in and out of the mix to give this monster of a tune its staccato percussive core. These dance floor oriented tracks represent only a small sliver of the spectrum and vibe covered by the “Without Borders” LP/compilation, which will be available in the coming weeks on CD & digital download featuring exclusives from Solar Empire, ASC, Mindmapper, DBR (UK), Marginal, Dub Phizix, Edward Oberon, Stranjah, Theory, Slider, and Expose. Keep it locked!

BMT004 Natural History Remixes: Part 2 – Blu Mar Ten Blu Mar Ten 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy promo. Where the album version of ‘By The Time My Light Reaches You I’ll be Gone’ was slow and contemplative, Klute grabs it by the scruff of the neck and gives it a good shake-down with a frantic percussion section while maintaining the strong melodies and progressions of the original. The result is a stunning blend of subtlety and impact, perfect listening whether you’re on the dancefloor or off it. Continuing his high-speed ascendance, d&b’s new kid on the block, Stray, justifies the hype with his superb rendition of ‘If I Could Tell You’. Hammering the original components into a richter-scale headnod, the aggression of his beats is beautifully offset with a subtle yet umissable reinterpretation of the bassline. Sounding completely different to virtually anything else in the genre, Stray’s irresistible remix has been waking up sleepy clubs all over the world, and must now rank as having one of the highest “what’s-this-tune-m8?’ ratios on the circuit right now. A genuine ear-worm. DJ support is coming in from right across the scene, including London Elektricity, Friction, Doc Scott, Lynx, John B, Nookie and many more

ADRS002 Too Much Temptation – Foxrox & Geetox Audio Danger Records 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy promo. This release has had major support from Fabio and Grooverider (Rewind selection of the week), Twisted individual, Bailey and Crissy Criss, plus many more. Vienna based Foxrox (Yetis Demir) and Geetox (Michael Stary) have been into D’n'B for quite some time now. While djing and holding residencies at the most famous clubs in the capital of Austria (Beat It at Flex and All Souled Out at Roxy), they both decided – independently – to start to produce the music they love and like to hear on the floor. This was 4 years ago. After developing some skills and their own workflow, they decided to collaborate in the second half in 2008 and since then, their easy going work bears fruit. Sunrise – BMK / Coda (Zen Remix) Zen has come to Audio Danger Records.. Need we say more? Zen has joined our team to do a remix of BMK and Coda’s track Sunrise. The original version never saw the light of day but zen heard it through the grape vine and jumped at the chance to put his spin on this track. With vocals from Jett and live guitar from Sam Phillips, it satisfies all the Drum and Bass crew from the liquid lovers to the jump up heads.. This tune is a must for all.

Tes La Rok’s first release in 2010 sees him returning to his own Noppa imprint with two massive remixes. Wikidness remix has already gained anthem status. BOKA029 Their Prey / Water Torture – Vista & Presence Known Boka Records 12″ Vinyl
It’s another heavy-hitter from the Boka camp, this time it’s a debut on the label from Vista & Presence Known who’s well publicized collaborations have caught the attention of the likes of EXCISION, CHRIS RENEGADE, 16BIT, DATSIK etc. and have been featured on the hugely popular ‘Inspector Dubplate’ Youtube channel.
These tunes are ultra heavy with a distinct Drum & Bass influence, massive club tunes that really need to be heard on a fat system, pretty much the dubstep equivalent of deep, dark Heavy Metal! Vista in his own right is a successful Dubstep producer having had a tune featured on the recent Fabric compilation ‘Elevator Music’ and Presence Known has just released a tune on legendary D&B label Virus with BTK. Vista has plenty of big tunes coming on Boka Records so keep your ears to the floor for those…

DVA005 The New World Order EP – DVA DVA Music 12″ Vinyl
The latest releases from a Producer famous for his persistent abuse of 4×4 convention, Scratcha DVA presents the New World Order EP on his own DVA Music imprint. Showcasing 4 tracks from a range of Producers the EP opens with a pair of brand new Scratcha DVA productions. The title tracks bomb shelter rave dynamics combine spiraling synths, warm organ stabs and heaving bass tones to apocalyptic effect while its companion ‘Schizophrenic’ lives up to its name, alternating a floor filling 8 bit 2 tone skank with churning Grime synths at their most sour. The flipside offers up Roska ally Uncle Bakongo’s brutally stripped down take on Soule Power’s ‘Lost’, pairing industrial strength drums with decaying vocal snippets and brooding keys before a last minute change of pace resolves the vocal tension. S.Chu’s rounds out the EP with a reworking of his ‘Quickfoot’, fully equipped with a slow burn bass line and shimmering synth arpeggios. Please no sharing. Feel free to get in touch for more info.

NSDX004 Switched / Switched (DC Breaks Remix) – Mindflow Never Say Die 12″ Vinyl
Marius Mevold aka Mindflow is 25 and hails from Trondheim in Norway. His NSD debut was picked up early by 1Xtra’s Mistajam and when you hear it you’ll soon see why. Mindflow has created an absolute monster of a dubstep track that’s so catchy even your mum will be dancing her socks off to it: Fact. Switched has all the elements of a festival anthem; lush old-skool piano chords, soaring diva vocal cuts and huge sub bass wobbles that will shake any summer sound system. Just when you think it can’t get any better, the half time dubstep beat switches into rolling UK funky vibes. Really and truly, this tune is a beast and has already had HUGE club and Radio support from Mistajam (6 weeks running on his 1xtra show!) as well as Annie Mac, Kissy Sell Out, Scratch Perverts, Oneman and Caspa. Of course a Never Say Die release wouldn’t be complete without killer remixes and this one is no exception. D&B men of the moment and remixers extraordinaire, DC Breaks, have taken Switched to new lofty heights with their super production skills. In

On the flip Caspa teams up with another label mate; Subscape, for a tune that has torn apart countless dancefloors lately. ‘Geordie Racer’ takes no prisoners with its driving beats and outrageous basslines, anyone who has been lucky enough to be in a rave when this monster drops will no doubt tell you the carnage it creates in the dance. Again gaining support from dubstep royalty and being featured on Caspa’s ‘MyStyle’ mix CD. All in all this is one obscenely big release that you can’t afford to pass on – big things once again from the Caspa & the Sub Soliders / Dub Police camp.

NONPLUS008 We Speak To Those / Hi Res – Kassem Mosse Nonplus Records 12″ Vinyl
Hailing from Leipzig in Germany is an artist who’s music has been pricking up many ears across the global underground over the last few years. It’s hard to put a finger on what it is about Kassem Mosse’s productions that make repeated listening a must, but the intricacy, fresh arrangements and musical depth definitely play a part in attracting labels such as the highly respected techno imprint Workshop, the legendary Soma Records and now Nonplus are honoured to present his latest 12”.
a) Kassem Mosse – ‘We Speak to Those’ First up on the a-side we have ‘We Speak to Those’ a 4/4 track of the highest quality that keeps you guessing from start to finish. The rugged and raw kick and bassline immediately set the foundations for the incoming awkward chord stabs whilst reversed beats lazily slur in and out over the main groove giving the track the unnerving feeling that its almost changing tempo. Random sound effects and a non conforming arrangement make this track about as predictable as the English summer. One listen to this and you’ll immediately understand why this artist is getting love from some of the scenes biggest players at the moment.
aa) Kassem Mosse – ‘Hi Res’ Phased drum machine breakbeat patterns and stutered percussion redolent of the early Detroit techno uprising give this track an outstanding quality of being able to conjure up the same feelings of hope and optimism for electronic music that the aforementioned era managed to. Thought provoking chord progressions take your mind on an excursion to the future and leave you gagging for an extended trip. Think skyways, flying cars and towering metal buildings footed with dark abysmal underworlds and you’ll get the drift. They don’t come much deeper than this one.

MFD02 Marked For Death #2 – Matt Green Marked For Death 12″ Vinyl
Double A side release from London based artist on this dark Dubstep label inspired by early 90s sampling culture. First tune up is a dark and heavy stepper with sinister vocals drenched in echo. Mutated basslines sit nicely under face slap snares. Flip side is a nice roller that never lets up, a chunky bassline plays off the relentless beats while paranoia samples bring on the THC induced psychosis.

New D&B CD

SUICIDECD008 Music For Prophet – Klute Commercial Suicide CD x 2
Klute’s first album in 2 years titled ‘Music for Prophet’, on his own ‘Commercial Suicide’ imprint. As on his previous albums, Klute stays true to himself with another non-commercial, yet 100% dancefloor friendly longplayer that – just like his excellent dj sets – offers the right balance of musical tunes alongside some real heavy hitters. Tom Withers, started back in 1994, i think when he was asked for a name to keep exclusive to Certificate 18 records when they agreed on 2 tracks to be his first single. It was there he stayed until 2000 when he delivered his 2nd final album for Cert 18 called Fear Of People. At this point in time Tom decided to make a change and realising no one else was interested in releasing his music decided to set up his own label. With his own platform set up he realized anything was possible, he could even release music by other idiots. Which he did. Perhaps too much. An interesting fact no one knows about Tom Klute is that he is the world’s leading composer of Airport music. Most of you who’ve travelled the friendly skys will have unknowingly heard his works at one time or another. Now we come to 2010 and Klute is ready for fucking more, and more it is with his 6th album “Music for Prophet”. All of Klute’s previous albums have been released to critical acclaim and this one will not stand behind, showing that Klute’s consistency as an artist reaches into 2010 and beyond. The album which also features a collaboration with Dom & Roland will be released as triple coloured vinyl, 2 X CD and Digital download. The additional CD & digital download package promises bonus material including techno tracks.

New D&B Releases

INMIN001    Only Words – Blue Motion    Influenza Media    12″ Vinyl
After a lengthy successful run with Influenza Media and Influenza Digital, label owner, Eros comes through with a brand new sub-label for 2010, Influenza Minus. Targeted to a deeper, minimal, experimental sound, the imprint will feature an A list of talent, including Triad, Brandon Miles, Tricky Pat, Blue Motion, Mister Sizef, Unquote, Glen E Ston, Decem, Dominic Ridgeway, Eleven8, Molecular Structures, Material, Reza, CJ Weaver, Omnius and many more. Influenza Minus will be available in vinyl, digital and compact disc format. If you take a trip back to Influenza Media 007, you might remember the fantastic uptempo vibes of Blue Motion’s ‘Only Words VIP.’ Influenza Minus 001 revisits this glorious track, bringing forth the original mix and a remix by Triad, the collaboration of Basti (which is also a collaboration between Madmen and Poets from Phunkfiction) and Henree. The trio has music out on Deep Soul Music, Horizons Music, Critical, X-tinction and Engine Music, and one of their most recent releases Omar featuring Estelle – Lay It Down (Triad Remix) has just been released on Peppermint Jam. In Blue Motion’s original mix, progressive, steppy vibes roll this one in before the melodic hook takes over. Very minimal in nature with a warm bassline, samples and piano lines build endlessly and seamlessly before making way for Triad’s teched out sound. A moody bassline sets the atmosphere with arpeggios of angelic voices, leading into a moment of silence before the drop. Fans of Critical Recordings, Subtitles and Quarantine would love this one.

OK020    OK020 The Remixes – Raiden    Offkey 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy This is a landmark release for Offkey Music.

WARM016 Hydrate / Hydrate (Consequence Remix) – DJG Warm Communications 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy Known in many circles for his wonderful dubstep excursions comes San Francisco native “DJG” with his excellent take on Drum & Bass. This is his first release when it comes to D&B and we are very proud to be releasing these amazing tunes! Welcome aboard! A. HYDRATE A deep menacing vibe kicks things off a a steady kick while claps and thick snare are sprinkled throughout leading up to a thunderous reese that will challenge any system. Muffled horns and vocals keep things interesting leading up to a subterranean breakout takes things into dubby territory! A truly wonderful piece of original music! AA. HYDRATE ( CONSEQUENCE REMIX ) Known for his work with the Autonomic crew, Consequence seemed the perfect match to recreate an already wonderful tune and does a great job with this remix. A hazy intro with dusty crackles leads into the tune’s signature kick with claps. Dubby stabs with a drawn out horn take things deeper before the bass punches through. Consequence has taken his signature minimal sound and added upon the original for a truly deep, original recreation. These are the kind of remixes we like! Dub Dub Dub!!!

RAMP032CD Idiot Box – P.U.D.G.E Ramp Recordings CD
Although you may not have yet heard his name, P.U.D.G.E. has been bubbling up in U.S. beat scene for many years. At age 9, his father gave him a Bass, a Juno synth, a DX drum machine and a Tascam 4 track. He encouraged the boy to start making his own music; P.U.D.G.E. got the bug. By the time young P.U.D.G.E. (thus called because at school he was always extra medium, or less than chubby) hit 13, he had discovered turntableism, and started DJing at house parties around NYC. By his late teens, he had emerged as a promising emcee, standing next to many of the well-known emcees from the Lyricist Lounge; including Mos Def & El P. Still producing, P.U.D.G.E.’s music was starting to gain attention, and his first beat was released on the Vinyl Junkies debut EP. After hearing about the emerging beat scene in L.A., he moved there in 2004, and started getting a few production credits under his belt, including cuts for Rawkus Records and Stacey Epps. After circulating some of his instrumental beat tapes, interest for P.U.D.G.E. started to gain momentum. Early this year, P.U.D.G.E. headed up All Cty’s L.A. series, on a split 10” with Dibiase, preceeding releases from Ras G, Samiyam & Matthewdavid.

RNG010    Jays Reese / The Intro – L.D vs Clue Kid    Ringo Records 12″ Vinyl
A strand emerging within dubstep is a mutant jungle strain within the sound. Needless to say, it’s impossible to imagine dubstep without the DNA of jungle: it’s prominent in so many ways and places, from Burial’s Foul Play influences to Loefah’s love of the sound itself. Members of the scene used to DJ jungle, from N Type and Kode9 to Jason (Transition’s mighty mastering engineer). In fact the whole “dark” component that makes dubstep distinct from UK garage has its roots in El-B’s twin love of Metalheadz and 2step. Jungle is less an influence on dubstep, more like the foundation on which the whole scene, via garage, was built. But in spite of all that, a re-emphasis on jungle-flavored dubs is emerging within dubstep; songs that use chopped breaks, epic pads, and vocal samples like it was 1994, from producers LD and Cluekid. words by Martin Clark

Break the habit returns with 3 tracks from Antisocial members Quest and Harry Craze. On the a-side real love is a late night cruise along the west coast, with pimped out synths, shuffling drums, neon chords and a menacing bassline. On the flip is Quests mellow and uplifting roller ‘Mahogany’. With a boogalicous drum beat, tropical atmospheres and a soulful bass, this one has been played by Mary Anne Hobbs, G double and the rest of Antisocial camp. Also on the flip is hypnotic head nodder; ‘West Kebab’ by Harry Craze. Gritty drums, dreamy rhodes and rolling bass line.

HENCH018 Disgustin Justin / Metalfoot – Lost Hench 12″ Vinyl
Having already graced Hench with his debut release, Ironhide / Slaughtered, Justin Cantor, a.k.a Lost, brings his latest batch of weaponry. With his debut releases on Hench being deemed strong enough to appear next to some of the scene’s biggest producers, such as Jakes, Komonazmuk and Chasing Shadows. Since that first release, Lost has been a regular feature in Get Darker TV’s live shows and this new offering will not disappoint fans. a. Distustin Justin – Cutting straight to the chase, Lost captures the sub-bass perspective of 90’s dance culture perfectly with Disgustin Justin. With the swinging bassline making creating a raw and dubby atmosphere, you can immediately tell that this was built to be played on a big soundsystem. Scattered high-hats and glitches keep the momentum rolling forward solidly. Estranged vocal in the background and the percussive drums add to the tripped-out mood of this production. From the evidence shown here, there is no doubt that Lost’s sound is maturing. aa. An eerie soundscape guides us into Metalfoot – leading you into a false sense of security whilst building to the drop. And when this fat, chrome-guilded bassline drops in you gather an understanding of where the inspiration for this track’s name came from. Slow-drawing snare, pulsating sub- bass and ticking high hats provide the ingredients for this dread-inducing track. This one’s a real grower and is going to be turning heads when it gets dropped on the dancefloor. DJ support for both tracks from: Jakes, Mistajam, Hatcha, Cyrus, N-Type, Darkside, Noah D, Datsik, Breezy and more.

SUBWAY014    Recovery / Headlock – Taz Buckfaster    Subway 12″ Vinyl
Taz Buckfaster.. A name thats been popping alot recently and no wonder. Cause this Scotsman has been making some extreme riddims! A producer that can flex to any side if he wants to and for his Subway debut he concocted 2 heavyweight dancefloor monsters that will leave the crowd begging for more. “Recovery” strikes like a ton of bricks. The heavy bleeped out intro is only camouflage cause after the towering drop itll smash your face in proper. Nasty gnarling midranges terrorise this heavyweight tune giving it that special Subway edge. On “Headlock” Taz shows he can wobble his gut any way he can… Get ready for a epic drunken wobbling style track thats bound to create pits around the globe… The unexpected edits give this tune the WOW factor Subway has been craving all along. HRMN012    On The Low – Randy Barracuda    Harmonia 12″ Vinyl
After a decade of bitter tears and hopeless trying our Finnish funkster Randy Barracuda has finally reached his ultimate goal as an artist. He has managed to combine successfully the music of his two favourite composers: Klaus Schulze and Lil’ Jon. ‘Impossible’, You may say. Well, don’t believe the hype. Take a listen to Streisand Effect’s booming crunk beats, heavy basses, epic synthesizer leads and cristallic arpeggios and choose for yourself. Dubstep – hero Tes La Rok’s outstanding remix stays true to the original but adds some extra dubby aesthetics to Randy’s storming soccer stadium skweee vibes. Backside of the record is dominated by more moody and naturalistic atmospheres. Tako To Ama (The Dream of the Fisherman’s Wife) is Randy’s homage to the grandiose tradition of Japanese tentacle erotica. In its Asiatic moods and sharp synthesizer stabs You can almost feel the slippery tentacles of an octopus wandering around in your bodily cavities! Record comes to an end with Lebensraum, an eight minute long meditative disco reggae. On Lebensraum the listener finds a totally new aspect of Randy Barracuda’s aural art: gone are the rapid staccato melodies and usual stiff funkiness. Maybe Credit00, a mysterious East-German bongo player, gave the track its naturalistic charm and the comfy aura of a forest in the springtime.

RAMP032 Idiot Box – P.U.D.G.E Ramp Recordings 12″ Vinyl x 2
Finished copies.

PSQ003 Pinpoint / Diver – L-OW Project Squared 12″ Vinyl
Finish Copy Promo’s. The third release on Project Squared features on it’s A side two tracks of Techno infused Dubstep from L-OW, an Estonian producer who has been building a reputation and discography since 2008 with a string of excellent releases. The first track, “Pinpoint”, has an energetic drive and pace despite it’s syncopated individual rhythmical elements. L-OW fuses these disparate elements to make a dance floor track with impact and depth. L-OW’s second track is Diver; a more reflective and introspective piece than Pinpoint, this is not a recording to play at the height of a set, but is more a piece focussed on mood and depth. On the B side, Bristol based artist Furesshu remixes Diver, taking elements of the original 140bpm Dubstep track and applying them to a 127bpm Techno framework. After a well received debut release on Project Squared that has garnered DJ play from the likes of Sigha , Marcel Dettmann and Ben Klock, Furesshu has produced a superb remix as a follow up. He strips back the original to a haunting, industrial, emotive melodic element, and drives the pace of the remix with cymbal lead drum lines and expansive bass. Mastered at Optimum, Bristol, United Kingdom.

ASC004 Thru The Blinds – DJ Kromestar Cloqworq Recordings 12″ Vinyl
Both tracks have had support on the highly acclaimed rinse fm on a weekly basis (WWW.RINSE.FM) and are receiving heavy rotation from DJs such as SKREAM, MALA AND N-TYPE in the clubs and not to mention major dubstep icons such as HATCHA from KISS 100 and MARYANNE HOBBS from RADIO 1, This highlights the versatility of these tracks and the potential to cross into Dj sets from different genres. These are both long awaited releases having caused a lot of interest on dubstepforum.com as well as having been reviewed on various portals and online magazines such as GetDarker.com and also residentadvisor.net – a real must for all serious dubsteppers worldwide

Coming soon – Blu Mar Ten “Natural History Remixes”

Coming soon – Blu Mar Ten “Natural History Remixes”

Posted 08 July 2010 | By Editor | Categories: news, tracks, video | 1 Comment

This summer, Blu Mar Ten follows up the success of their 2009 LP ‘Natural History’ with a two-part set of remixes that bring together the finest in fresh and established talent from across the globe. DJ support is coming in from right across the scene, including London Elektricity, Friction, Doc Scott, Lynx, John B, Nookie and many more.

Blu Mar Ten – Natural History Remixes
Part 1 – Seba / Bop / Badmammal
Artist: Blu Mar Ten
Label: Blu Mar Ten
Catalogue No: BMT003
Release dates: 26th July 2010

a) Blu Mar Ten – Overwhelm (Seba Remix)
aa) Blu Mar Ten – Believe Me (Bop Remix)
Digital-only) Above Words (Badmammal Remix)

Overwhelm (Seba remix)
Seba assaults the calm of the original ‘Overwhelm’ with a battery of old skool breaks and signature cosmic sweeps that recall the highlights of the Good Looking Records era.

Believe Me (Bop remix)
Bop takes the opposite route with his interpretation of ‘Believe Me’, opening up a bottomless well of reverb and throwing the components of the original into it, piece by piece. The result is a beautiful inversion of the original, showcasing the near-beatless melancholy the young Russian has become famous for.

Above Words (Badmammal remix)
‘Above Words’ is completely transformed by San Francisco’s master of quirky folktronica, Badmammal, who rewrites the tune’s Autonomic-via-Detroit stylings into a gorgeous montage of dusty acoustic Americana. A hypnotising, waltz-time guitar rendition of the original loop builds up into crashing waves of chiming bells and choral vocals, taking the listener on a breathtaking and emotional journey.

Part 2 featuring remixes from Klute, Stray & Kastle coming soon…..

Reflecting the quality of the music, Natural History comes packaged in beautifully hand-drawn artwork from designer ithinkitsnice, with the CD edition coming with a hand-designed matte sleeve, a gorgeous 6-page booklet and full colour matte postcard. “It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent. It is the one that is the most adaptable to change.” -Charles Darwin

From the storming remix of vocal opener ‘Starting Over’, through the deeply abstract ‘Grey Area’ to the VIP rework of massive club hit ‘Close’ and the epic ‘Last Dance’, ‘Natural History’ showcases the trio’s ability to enrich and develop their DNA, resulting in an album full of surprising twists and turns that always carry the Blu Mar Ten stamp of quality.

CIADK019 Sugar Hill – Lenzman C.I.A. Deep Kut 12″ Vinyl
Following his awesome remix of Total Science & Conrad’s modern classic ‘Soul Patrol’, Lenzman hooks up with the CIA crew once more for another duo of deep kuts. Everyone’s been talking about ‘Sugar Hill’ thanks to its inimitable style and Lenzman’s signature rolling throughout. Solid beats and a nifty synth hook make way for wide open atmospherics and a gradual build up to a drop which oozes with class. Rising pads and a muted reese bass are peppered with a soulful vocal snippet which makes this track completely irresistible. On the flip ‘Memory Loss’ is an exercise in beautiful minimalism as percussive licks mingle with interspersed vocals and epic pad swirls. Lenzman shows you how to make a track which is simple, yet highly effective. We hope you were paying attention, kids! Look out for CIADK020 – Henree & Hitten, dropping soon. DJ Support: Goldie, Marcus Intalex, Total Science, Commix and more.

OK017 Antique Antic / King Stays King – Martsman / Raiden & Khanage Offkey 12″ Vinyl
Finish copies. Raiden’s label always comes with something different from the usual D&B formula rubbish. Martsman’s track is very impressive, with his refreshing future sound. On the other side it’s business as usual from Raiden with help from Khanage, its funky, and not as full on as normal, but again right at the cutting edge. Martsman got into Drum&Bass around the end of the 90s. Debuting on New York based Offshore Recordings in 2005, he released on smaller as well as established labels like Alphacut Records or Counter Intelligence in the following years. In 2008, tracks on Warm Communications and Hospital Records’ sub label Med School attract the attention of a steadily growing audience also from outside the Drum&Bass scene.

NZLP002S Innuendo Phase Three – Trei Samurai Music 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. The final vinyl component of Trei’s critically acclaimed debut LP / CD ‘Innuendo’ unleashes a collaboration between 2 of New Zealand’s most potent dancefloor technicians. State Of Mind & Trei got together to produce the final tune for ‘Innuendo’ and the collective vibe was instantly focused directly on maximum crowd movement. ‘Thunder Biscuit’ was produced in one day of fruitful labour with all 3 talents at the boards. The reaction from around the world was positive and swift, with every DJ sent the tune supporting as soon as they got a chance to play out. ‘Innuendo’ on the flip is the title track of the LP, and serves up a menacing, rollicking vibe with breaks climbing all over the punishing, winding bass. Trei has personally used this as his opening tune for some time and if you need a statement of powerful intent, then ‘Innuendo’ will provide for you every time. Dj support from Pendulum, Ed Rush, Friction, Klute and many more besides.

Finish copy. Reflecting the quality of the music, Natural History comes packaged in beautifully hand-drawn artwork from designer ithinkitsnice, with the vinyl edition featuring a full colour A1 poster and full artwork inner & outer sleeves. “It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent. It is the one that is the most adaptable to change.” – Charles Darwin
Few musical acts can lay claim to such dynamic evolution as Blu Mar Ten. Formed in the big-bang of 90′s drum & bass, their superior genes saw them grow and mutate beyond the confines of the jungle into lush experimentation with downtempo, ambient, house, techno & left-field. Returning to their ancestral roots, ‘Natural History’ is the long-awaited first full drum & bass album from Blu Mar Ten leaving you in no doubt about their position at the cutting edge of the genre.

Opening the label’s musical account, Bristol resident and long-time Utopia supporter Break (Symmetry) steps up to deliver Natural Progression. On the reverse, dBridge (Exit Records) remixes a track created by label boss Mako and Andy Skopes (Good Looking) back in 2006 that remains unreleased despite a large amount of DJ support and an appearance on Fierce & Break’s cover-mount mix CD for ATM Magazine. SCULT003 Swoop / Funk Me Hard – Sleeper Cell & Maztek Subculture 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. Usually when we think of Italy we think of designer labels, opera, fast cars, fine art and fine foods. Italian based Subculture Records however are looking to add firin’ drum & bass to that list as they present their third release from label owner Maztek and UK producers Sleeper Cell. Batton down the hatches, things are about to get rowdy! Sci-fi sounds capes are rife as Sleeper Cell and Maztek team up for ‘Swoop’ to open up Scult003 with its rich textured break, eerie pads and industrial fx. After a tense dropout it’s time to move out as the super-sick bass rocks into the mix along with the rugged beats to provide a great example of the neurofunk sound. Fans of Noisia, Break and the like will lap this one up. Then Maztek goes it alone for ‘Funk Me Hard’, another excursion into the dark twisted world of techy d&b but with as the name suggests, a little more funk. Absolute carnage is what this one causes on the drop of filthy bass, warped vox and yet more production wizardry. Crank it up! DJ support so far from Ed Rush, State Of Mind, Chris Renegade, Optiv, Masheen, Axiom and more.

Phantom kicks off with rolling beats that are constantly developed throughout the track and added to with N.Phect’s unmistakeable brand of dirty funk. Razzle Dazzle is less of an easy going affair as enormous amounts of bass right from the off build towards a disgusting, pounding drop that devastates dancefloors. Both tracks have been causing carnage across the world thanks to DJ support from Ed Rush, Black Sun Empire, Teebee, Cause 4 Concern, State of Mind, Phace, Prolix, Bulletproof, Misanthrop and Cern to name but a few.

RAMP025 Party – FaltyDL Ramp Recordings 12″ Vinyl
FaltyDL returns to RAMP after the painfully deep ‘To London’, and his acclaimed ‘Love Is A Liability’ album on some other label earlier this year, with a new 12” of sleazy 2step vibes. “Party” gets things moving with DL’s most organic production to date, resonating in your brain like the jaded memory of an uncomfortable lap dance from an impromptu trip to the future. Flip the wax for the warm fuzzy minimal garage vibes of “Alpafun”, a tune that Mr. Lustman hates so much, he never wanted it to see the light of day. Just to spite the cocky New Yorker, we are putting it out. DJ SUPPORT FROM MARY ANNE HOBBS, GILLES PETERSON, BENJI B, ROB DA BANK, ONEMAN.

CHST007 Twilight / V (Pinch Remix) – Distance Chestplate 12″ Vinyl
Fresh from tours in the USA and Australia, Distance commits two more of his killer dubplates to vinyl, putting an evil smirk on the face of Dubstep DJs and fans everywhere. Now seven releases in, the Chestplate imprint is well and truly established as a buy-on-sight label. This time around sees a new Distance anthem on side A, accompanied by a Pinch reversion of Distance’s modern classic ‘V’ on the flip. Twilight is Distance in primetime dancefloor destruction mode. No messin’! The theremin like spooky ambient melodies oscillate and brood, making way for the trademark Distance crunching riff. It smacks of Distance on top of his game. It slays and it dips, only to come back harder. This one should remind the Dubstep new skool that you don’t have to tear your brain out to make tear out. Turn the 12 over and original badman, Bristol lynchpin Pinch, comes correct with his version of the Distance speaker wrecker V. Pinch twists up and reconfigures the original into a new sonic horror show. This should be the office ambience of torture chambers everywhere. Pinch suppresses the drive and riff of Distance’s version, accentuating the more unnerving elements; yes it’s subtle, but it’s not any less devastating. If the system packs enough punch, this one will literally turn guts. Major support comes from the crop of discerning dubstep DJs, with full blessings coming from the likes of Skream, Mary Anne Hobbs and Hatcha. Alongside contemporaries like Benga, Skream, Pinch and Digital Mystikz, Distance has been responsible for shaping the Dubstep sound as we know it today. Distance fans can also check out his brand new album entitled Repercussions, out now on Planet Mu, accompanied by a second CD of all the Chestplate tracks to date.

KGO002 The Love Quadrant – Space Dimension Controller Kinnego Records 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy promo’s. Full artwork sleeves. Electronic / Dubstep label Kinnego Records started by Boxcutter out of Northern Ireland is back! After the success of the first release (by Boxcutter himself) he introduces the masses to a producer named ‘Space Dimension Controller’….the techno funk alias of 19-year-old Jack Hamill. Following on perfectly from Boxcutter and Kinnego Flux’s “A Familiar Sound” on KGO001, it features 2 tracks of deep, loved-up electro. Equally inspired by both the tape warped soundtrack to Garth Merenghi’s Darkplace and early Aphex Twin, Jack’s all-analogue production gives his tracks a timeless sound that’s a mile away from contemporary electro and house. The beats are low slung and funky, and the melodies are addictive and show a natural flair. On “The Love Quadrant”, a girl / boy vocal exchange sets the scene while the track builds momentum, before the whole thing spaces off on a sweet minimoog solo. On the flip, “Electropod-250 Collision” has a deep 808 pulse and flanged bass, topped off with Detroit-inspired melodies and blurred out reverbs.

FRJ005 Reminder – Sully Frijsfo Beats 12″ Vinyl
Super Limited white label. Griping about dubstep seems pretty pointless at the moment – for almost every formulaic record on the shelves, there’s another young, creative producer beating a much more interesting path. Norwich’s Jack Stevens – better known as Sully – is justifiably seen as one of those individuals. Tantalisingly doing the rounds on dub for long enough now, “Reminder” and “Jackman’s Rec” should usher in Sully’s biggest moment yet. Since Blackdown (AKA Martin Clark) included both in his end-of-year dubstep chart for Pitchfork, he and DJ partner Dusk have supported the tunes consistently on Rinse FM and at FWD>>, also featuring “Jackman’s Rec” in their XLR8R magazine podcast last year. “Reminder” has subsequently been deployed in sets by Ben UFO, Pangaea and Tomb Crew, the latter including it in their recent contribution to FACT magazine’s respected mix series. One of Sully’s tricks is that his music never falls into predictable slots. “Reminder” might be a peak-time, late-summer skanker, but there isn’t a clichéd reggae sample in earshot. Instead, it’s closer to a translation of pioneering producer Pole’s crackly dub abstractions into dancefloor form. “Jackman’s Rec” is a velvety roller that on one level, is the best example so far of how Sully’s intuition for swing allows him to nail the dark sensuality of early FWD>> beats. Yet at the same time, it’s in no way trapped in nostalgia for that era, simply sounding like the next step for future garage. “Reminder” / “Jackman’s Rec” is released on 12” vinyl and digital formats, including 50 12” white-labels available in advance. In addition, two more excursions from Sully, “Sleazy” and “Cadillac”, are on sale as downloads only, recommended in September by Boomkat.

RWINA004 Half Man Half Trout / 20 Red – Taz Buckfaster Rwina Records 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. The fourth Rwina sees the light of yet another Taz Buckfaster 12 inch that’s going down in a true epic vein, one for the anthem horny jocks. So if you are into the grimy synth heavy side of things then better check this one out. Taz is on the case with the A side, Half Man Half Trout has been tearing up various floors for a while now. Meaty synths, a sexy melody, smooth delicate bassstings and a sharp drumbeat to nod your head to. A sure shot production that’ll leave and left tons of people wonder what that just was. It seems there aint no stopping the Taz because again he pulls it off on the flip with his other dancefloor smasher called 20 Red. 8 Bit bleeps and again a brutal squeezy synthline that’ll make your mouth water. Its like Snoop Dogg is floating on this orange cloud on his way to Jamaica to fill up his stash. A tune that finishes of this 12 inch in style and cements Taz as one to watch in the future! With releases coming up on Numbers (former Wireblock), Subway and a debut album on Rwina it shows that this is one producer we’ll hear alot more about! Check out Taz buckfasters interview with Sonic Router too! http://sonicrouter.blogspot.com/2009/09/interview-taz-buckfaster.html

PROPH115 Gotta Have It – MJ Cole feat. Digga Prolific Recordings 12″ Vinyl
Production legend, scene stealer and one time MERCURY MUSIC PRIZE nominee MJ COLE hooks up with Atlantic Records latest signing and one of the freshest vocal and song writing talents in the country, DIGGA, for what is set to be a HUGE radio and club smash – GOTTA HAVE IT! MJ COLE layers his distinctly piercing strings with DIGGA’S soft but overtly masculine tones to weave a tale of unrequited love with a twist. Couple that with the infectious bassline provided by this production wizard and the pair are definitely sitting on a potential hit! At the age of 24 Matt Coleman better known as MJ COLE became one of the first artists to crossover from the burgeoning UK Garage scene to mainstream success. Grounded in a culture obsessed with authenticity, he was almost unique in simultaneously drawing praise from his lesser-known peers as easily as the critics (the album, ‘SINCERE’ was nominated for the MERCURY MUSIC PRIZE) and the record-buying masses (two top ten singles with ‘SINCERE’ and ‘CRAZY LOVE’). The album was certified silver in the UK alone, and a MOBO award for Best Producer cemented Matt’s reputation. His list of remix credits are as star studded as any, from MARIAH CAREY, ROOTS MANUVA, DIDO, NITIN SAWNEY, DE LA SOUL and LAMB he’s been one of the most sought after producers for the last ten years. GOTTA HAVE IT is the first single from the forthcoming as yet untitled album and teams MJ up with rising star DIGGA, the man behind huge internet hit BROKEN who has recently featured on the massive CHASE & STATUS album MORE THAN A LOT. Along with the firing original version GOTTA HAVE also features a further six remixes from the likes of ILL BLU, MICKY SLIM, PENFOLD, CONTROL S, EPYDEMIX and MJ’s very own FUNKY DUBB taking DIGGA’s vocal in a number of inspired directions.

coming soon: “Natural History” LP – Blu Mar Ten

Posted 17 September 2009 | By Editor | Categories: news, tracks, video | 3 Comments

Few musical acts can lay claim to such dynamic and consistent evolution as Blu Mar Ten. Formed in the big-bang of 90’s drum & bass and regular faces at Rage, Metalheadz, Speed & AWOL, Blu Mar Ten were rapidly spotted by LTJ Bukem and signed to Good Looking Records, cementing their position in the genre as originators of complex, atmospheric music.

They quickly grew and mutated beyond the confines of the jungle into lush experimentation with downtempo, ambient, house, breaks, techno & left-field for labels such as Naked Music, Guidance, Big Chill, with two full albums of non-d&b material on Exceptional Records.

blumartenpress

This new material saw Blu Mar Ten gain support from DJs such as Tom Middleton, Rennie Pilgrem, Pete Tong, Felix da Housecat, Ben Watt, Carl Cox, Lee Burridge, Erol Alkan, Howie B and Mary Anne Hobbs.

Blu Mar Ten also remixed a series of major and independent artists, including Erykah Badu, Annie Lennox, Alicia Keys, Terry Lee Brown Junior, Jakatta, The Ananda Project, Doc Scott, Fink and Blame.

2005 saw Blu Mar Ten return to the drum & bass scene, with the next 18 months producing a string of releases on labels such as Hospital, Renegade Hardware, Shogun Audio, 31 Records, Tangent, Phuzion, Vibez & Basement.

2009 has already seen the release of the ‘Close’ and ‘Believe Me’ EPs, preludes to Blu Mar Ten’s long-awaited first full drum & bass album. Scheduled for late 2009, the album promises to deliver an incredibly wide range of drum & bass tracks from the deeply abstract to the unashamedly dancefloor, all bearing Blu Mar Ten’s trademark stamp of quality.

blumartenpress2

DJ support for Blu Mar Ten’s new material has been pouring in from right across the d&b family tree, leaving you in no doubt at the trio’s position at the forefront of the scene…

NONPLUS002 Watching You – Instra:mental Nonplus Records 12″ Vinyl
Instra:mental present the second release from their Nonplus imprint after the hugely successful Nonplus 001 ‘Wonder Where’ / ‘No Future’. This release consists of two tracks from Instra:mental. Again, the A side contains the vocal talent of frequent collaborator dBridge, and for the B side they switch up the style into what can only be described as Dub Techno. a) Instra:mental ‘Watching You’ stands up to the quality levels set by Nonplus 001 and continues the fusion of original vocals, Detroit influenced chords and their trademark tight percussion. Ice-cold robotic vocals and heart-warming chord stabs will make the hairs on your neck stand on end Listen after listen. This tune is a timeless piece of music that no amount of jargon can justifiably explain. If you like the recent output from these guys then you will love this tune. aa) Instra:mental ‘Tramma’ is a 4/4 offering made of elements from Dub, Techno and DnB but is hard to pigeonhole into any particular genre. For descriptive purposes well call it dub techno. Once again we can hear their influences from all things electronic, and here we have an example of the variance that we expect from Nonplus and a glimpse of the vision that Instra:mental have for the future of this label.

EXIT016 Melodies feat Mike Knight – Spectrasoul Exit Recordings 12″ Vinyl
Spectrasoul provide their debut single on Exit Records, which consists of two tracks written especially for the label. These two producers have proved their talent time and time again with a string of releases over the past two years and are definitely ones to watch in 2009/10. ‘Melodies’ is a clever combination of melancholic synth samples, used courtesy of legendary minimal electronica producers Isan, featuring the vocal talents of up and coming American RnB singer Mike Knight. An unconventional beat pattern makes this track stand out from the crowd and provides a refreshing break on the dancefloor. ‘Insignia’ comes with similar vibes on the B side, starting off with emotive pads and vocal snippets, dropping with low down sub stabs over another unconventional but highly effective beat. Both tracks have had support on the highly acclaimed autonomic podcasts (www.club-autonomic.com) and are receiving heavy rotation from DJs such as dBridge, Instramental and Dubstep pioneer DJ Skream, which highlights the versatility of these tracks and the potential to cross into Dj sets from different genres.

OSR022 Sweet Spot / Radiate – Alley Cat / Vaccine Offshore 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. Alley Cat “Sweet Spot” Perhaps D&B’s most underrated female DJ is back in the studio again. Offshore is proud to host her first production resurfacing- “Sweet Spot”. A very progressive and forward thinking piece of music. Some would say that it fits into the current ‘minimal’ sound being championed by Instramental and D-Bridge, but why pigeon hole it? Vaccine “Radiate” Yet another edm vixen, Vaccine flips this girl power 12″ with a Dubstep offering. “Radiate” is both sparkling and beautiful, yet a bit grimey underneath. It is truly a breathtaking affair with lovely strings and ethereal samples. Already praised by Mary Ann Hobbs and Kid Drama, this track is sure to be remembered.

NONPLUS001 Wonder Where / No Future – dBridge / Instra:mental Nonplus Records 12″ Vinyl
After arriving back on the scene in 2006 Instra:mental have fast gained a reputation for re-sharpening the cutting edge approach to making music. Taking influence from their love of electronica and incorporating it into a fresh and unorthodox style, they have managed to create a distinctive and inspiring sound. In 2009 they have decided to start their own label in order to give them a focused outlet for their music, and also the music of other artists who they feel are on the same path. Quality, longevity, freedom of expression and nonconformity are some of the ideologies behind their new label, Nonplus+ Records.
a) dBridge ‘Wonder Where’:
‘Wonder Where’ by dBridge is a fine example of how the label means to continue. dBridge is hot off the back of his debut solo album “The Gemini Principle” in which he first gave us glimpses of a talent which he shares with his brother Steve Spacek as a vocalist. Since then he has been busy continuing to lay the foundations of his own respected imprint Exit Records. If his voice sounds familiar, perhaps you have heard the track “These Words” on which he featured on Martyn’s highly regarded debut album “Great Lengths”. Wonder Where is quite unique in the way it is regularly getting played in the sets of DJs from many genres. Drum n bass dj’s such as Marcus Intalex, to soulfull house Dj’s like Benji B, and also Dubstep pioneer DJ Skream has regularly been finishing his sets with it. Dubstep legend Burial has also seen fit to include it in his upcoming DJ Kicks mix. This track is fast becoming an anthem among many different genres and is sure to be featured in many a dj’s sets for many years to come.
aa) Instra:mental ‘No Future’:
Instra:mental have chosen their own track “No Future” which is ironic considering they obviously have a very big future ahead of them. Already licensed to the highly acclaimed Commix Fabriclive.44 this track (and most of their music) manages to resurrect the ghost of early electronic music with the essence of artists such as Model 500 and the legendary Detroit techno movement of the 80s and early 90s. Using original hardware drum machines and synthesizers to create the analogue warmth and groove which was synonymous of those times, they bring elements back to the music which have been somewhat lacking in recent years and laced it with all the benefits of modern music making advancements. This track will be loved and cherished by those who appreciate good music and will play just as well in the comfort of your own home as it would in a packed out dance floor.

ARGLP02_3 The Incredible Adventures Of Kenzolika & Quetzalcoatl Among The Air Castles Part 3 – Blasta Argon Records 12″ Vinyl
Blasta met Kenzolika, Kyiv’s dubstep princess, in November 2008. It all started with a coincidence – the owls were falling, and they keep falling now. Blasta is a musician based in Vaska, St. Petersburg, Russia. Each tune on the album is filled with pure sweet emotions. Feel the tension in “Your Dub Delay”, a poignant cosmic dubstep anthem with vocals by Blasta. It doesn’t matter if you are drinking the “Black Muscatel” wine, drifting through the clouds inside a “Zeppelin Nacelle”, or just chilling and dancing slowly with beautiful girls inside the “Cosmic Lounge”. “This LP is something that has popped up from nowhere and is to be one of the best dance album’s I’ve heard in years, tracks like ‘Cosmic Lounge’ & ‘Black Muscatel’ are strong power plays from myself in the clubs and have had people singing with joy to the melodies or clenching their hearts with emotion – sumthing you don’t see in the clubs these days anymore due to the lack of good music played by the top DJs. Other tempo’s on the album shows the talent that Blasta really has with music making…….
“This album WILL be remembered for years to come!!!!!!” – Heny G
“The tunes are just snapshots of your feelings.” – Quest
“This is as deep & sexy as it gets. Blasta delivers one of the most beautiful dubstep albums ever made.” – L-Wiz
“This album is immense, breaking down boundaries in dubstep… pure vibes” – J:Kenzo
“Sophisticated dubstep music providing food for your soul! Pure jazzed out boogie! Blasta is sick!” – Distinction
“Blasta reconcilie le dubstep et la soul music. Un retour aux sources efficace!” – Von D
Blasta gives birth to a brand new sound, true future music. Music that is cooked from the most delicious rave, dub and jazz flavors ever created. This album gives you a complete feeling of tenderness and love, taken from the winter and fitting perfectly into the early spring.

BRK012 Cave Rave – Geiom & Spamchop Berkane Sol 12″ Vinyl
Geiom + Spamchop find themselves in a distant mysterious land ravaged by sub zero temperatures. Across the hills they can hear faint echoes of deep bass..Crunching through the snow towards the source they discover a party in a massive cave full of odd rock formations and sparkling crystals. The ravers seem slightly unhinged but happy, dancing to strange future music that reminds our explorers of uk garage without the bling…Spamchop records some of it into his phone for future analysis – when the pair get back to the studio ‘Cave Rave’ is the result. After the beach jam which spawned ‘Eyl Booty’ (brk011) Geiom is making preparations to leave when one of the pirates shows him a video camera with footage of their most ambitious raid – the capture of the Sirius Star oil tanker – Geiom likes the idea of this ramshackle bunch going head to head with the greedy oil barons. He agrees to make the pirates something they can pump out while they make their way across the Indian Ocean – ‘give us something with a lot of bass – we kitted out our speedboats with some tasty subwoofers’ is the request. Geiom also includes some audio from the footage for good measure. ‘Sirius Star’ is going to be rocking boats, cars and raves everywhere for some time to come…

New Dubstep PROMOS

DP030 King Pin – The Others Dub Police Records 12″ Vinyl
Finished Copy Promos. Following on from the huge success of the recent Subscape release on Dub Police, The Others are back with a bang with an ultra-wobble big-hitter ‘King Pin’. This sees their signature sound developing and morphing into an even bigger relentless weapon. In the same way that the Subscape release was arranged, the flip of this release sees The Others on a much lighter tip incorporating old school drum & bass vibes and possibly highlighting a softer sensitive side to the boys we all assumed were premier league hit-men.

ROGUE STATE – LOGICAL REGRESSION
Another meaty slab of Rogue’s own niche influenced dubstep style, this track was influenced by the mighty LTJ Bukem. Rogue is on top form here with depth and emotion created through the synthy intro whilst the tearout drop will get anyone moving.
TWISTED – INFECT
Hailing from Germany and part of the Dutty Dubs crew, Twisted is starting to make real impact on the international scene. The super slick mixdown is what first attracted us to him but it was this phenomenally heavy weight track that made us decide to release Twisted. Bass face time!

DP009 Acton Dread – Rusko Dub Police Records 12″ Vinyl
Repressed due to Demand! The most talked about producer of the moment returns for more dub wise dubstep, Rusko brings the vibes on his 2nd dub police outing The most talked about producer of the moment returns for more dub wise dubstep. The first “acton dread“, inspired by rusko’s London borough, kicks off with a summertime digi-dub bounce. hypnotic flutes and wailing vocals give way to a pulsing sub bass, reggae shuffles and catchy themes, showcasing the dub-style production that’s made Rusko a favourite of djs like skream and radio 1’s rob da bank. Listen carefully for London underground announcements lurking in the background of the tune! Flipping over we see rusko on remix duties for local boy Caspa. This toung in cheek refix sees rusko adding his trademark trance sytnths and bumpy sub bass to the lilting Japanese flute melodies, space age effects and jungle percussion. “Would you like to play your flute?”!! A track that will be filling dancfloors for years to come.

DP020 Transaction – Sub Scape Dub Police Records 12″ Vinyl
Repressed due to Demand! Badman: New signing SubScape steps up to the now privileged rotor of Dub Police, with two bad boy cuts that have been destroying dance floors for a while now. First up is Badman which has received massive big support from Caspa, The Scratch Perverts, Rusko, Reso and The Others to name a few. A simple intro with hints of devastating bass being teased in and out before the drop comes and some serious bass action that is guaranteed to get any floor moving. Transaction: Again this tune is not for the faint hearted, and is likely to rip up any dance floor. Rip roaring bass that will tear your head off and shit down your neck, and beats so tuff they should come with a health warning. With more releases lined up for Dub Police and gaining support from key players in and from outside the scene; this guy is one to watch for sure.

DP023 License To Thrill Part 4 – Caspa & Rusko / Unitz Dub Police Records 12″ Vinyl
Repressed due to demand.Caspa & Rusko – Soulful Geeza: Kicking off the next chapter in the LTT series is this deep track Caspa & Rusko and isn’t’ what you would quite expect from these two, whose tracks are usually all out dance floor dominators. Warm pads, trance esq. synths, and an steppy beats really set this one apart from the typical sound these two are so well known for. What better way to kick things off? Unitz – Wait A Minute: Things couldn’t get more different on the flip, as Dub Police’s very own boy wonder Unitz steps up with this sickening track. Fans of his first release (The Drop) will be digging this as the synth twists and bends like a slinky, and a crisp powerful bass and big beats carries the whole track. Proper sick stuff.

Deep and funky sub with snappy and funky beats, tight punchy percussion keeps this one grooving right to the end. B: Is This What You Want ? V.I.P. – Already a big tune from last year, this V.I.P. version takes the track to a next level. EXIT014 Thugtronik / Thugtronika – Instra:mental Exit Records 12″ Vinyl
EXIT014 brings us more amazing music, design, & packaging. After the mighty “Blush Response” collaboration with dBridge on his debut album The Gemini Principle, followed by an impressive contribution to the Aptitude Series, Instramental grace Exit Records once again with a this outstanding 12” Both have been created from the same electronic genetics and sit side by side like brother andsister. Yet another fine example of why Instramental have been getting so much attention recently. Their trademark clean anddistinctive sound has been evolving at an ever increasing rate, and here we have two extreme directions on the same 12’ that remindus what these guys are capable of. Thugtronika kicks off with a solid beat from the off and promptly brings back memories of the legendary Blue note era. Snares fly around like white hot shrapnel layered with metallic effects that paint an audio landscape akin to a futuristic war zone. Think twitching android limbs, pumping hydraulics, severed electrical cables and puddles of toxic waste. Then incomes the bass. Rumbling over the horizon like an army of thuggish robots armed with 40hz cannons flattening anything in their path. This is one of Instramentals more aggressive offerings which highlights their versatility and is sure to get your body moving. Thugtronik is like the bleak aftermath of Thugtronika, less aggressive but still with a low end capable of flattening tower blocks. Hypnotic percussion sets the tempo, and a droning undertone of pulsing bass complemented with hair raising sinister effects set themood. Whilst its ugly brother will move your body, this beautiful sister will undoubtedly stir your mind and soul.

NONVOGUE003 Ghost Radio – The Upbeats Non Vogue 12″ Vinyl
How heavy is this? D&B lovers are familiar with The Upbeats’ distinctly searing, risk taking electro style and this sampler from their forthcoming debut is as headstrong as a mad woolly mammoth on heat. ‘Ghost Radio’ directly attacks with speed metal riffs clashing with furious cyber-keys. Constant troughs and crescendos of mood, while ’1968′s forward thinking impresses with crazy pans and bongos. A nice fix while you wait for Ed Rush & Optical’s imminent new album.
In 2009 they have decided to start their own label in order to give them afocused outlet for their music, and also the music of other artists who they feel are on the same path. Quality, longevity, freedom of expression and nonconformity are some of the ideologies behind their new label, Nonplus+ Records.
a) dBridge ‘Wonder Where’:
‘Wonder Where’ by dBridge is a fine example of how the label means to continue. dBridge is hot off the back of his debut solo album”The Gemini Principle” in which he first gave us glimpses of a talent which he shares with his brother Steve Spacek as a vocalist. Since then he has been busy continuing to lay the foundations of his own respected imprint Exit Records. If his voice sounds familiar ,perhaps you have heard the track “These Words” on which he featured on Martyn’s highly regarded debut album “Great Lengths”.Wonder Where is quite unique in the way it is regularly getting played in the sets of DJs from many genres. This track is fast becoming an anthem amongmany different genres and is sure to be featured in many a dj’s sets for many years to come.
aa) Instra:mental ‘No Future’:
Instra:mental have chosen their own track “No Future” which is ironic considering they obviously have a very big future ahead ofthem. Already licensed to the highly acclaimed Commix Fabriclive.44 this track (and most of their music) manages to resurrect theghost of early electronic music with the essence of artists such as Model 500 and the legendary Detroit techno movement of the 80sand early 90s. Using original hardware drum machines and synthesizers to create the analogue warmth and groove which wassynonymous of those times, they bring elements back to the music which have been somewhat lacking in recent years and laced itwith all the benefits of modern music making advancements. This track will be loved and cherished by those who appreciate goodmusic and will play just as well in the comfort of your own home as it would in a packed out dance floor. For more information go to www.nonplusrecords.com

New D ‘n’ B Promos

REDSEAL002 Speakeasy – Luca Samurai Red Seal 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. Another name to add to the long list of talented Drum and Bass producers from New Zealand, Tim Webb aka Luca releases his first 12″ single on new Samurai Music offshoot ‘Red Seal’. Having churned out its fair share of talented tech flavoured producers, Luca is essentially the first of his kind from New Zealand to really make an impact on the international drum and bass scene with his funky, musically rich, and at times beautifully deep sound. ‘Speakeasy’ was one of his earliest productions and sparked heavy label interest. The sax driven glide of this tune has caught many an ear and while we at samurai usually have a distinctaversion to the saxophone in drum and bass, Luca has worked it into a simple, effortless magic we just couldn’t resist. And from the thick jazz club smoke out vibe to a different kind of fog, ‘Eastern Highway’ is an early morning trip into a deserted forest on the outskirts of Japan. Stuttering breaks, rich moody bass, and an eerily soothing soundscape guide you gently through the vibe. Another truly special piece of music, from an exciting new talent. Luca has recently featured on Hospital Records latest compilation ‘SickMusic’, and Red Seal has just signed another 12″ for him for the very near future. DJ support from Marcus Intalex, Lynx, Eveson (who featured ‘Speakeasy’ in his Knowledge Mag cover Mix CD), Soul Intent, Presha and more

EAST081 Cheeba – A Sides Eastside Records 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. After holding down the controls since 1989 Eastside label head A Sides consistently tours the globe laying down sets inover 40 different countries worldwide. He still manages to find time to lock himself away in the studio and keep his creative output Consistently flowing. This release is a fine example and is the first in a series of A Sides releases leading up to the release of his upand coming second solo album due to hit the streets this winter. We set things off here with the dub inspired “Cheeba” which moves neatly with it’s percussive groove wrapped with a deep bouncy sub line, original step and sound clash style stabs to compliment creating a big dancehall vibe. Strictly for the head nodders! On the flip you will find “One Love” which is aimed purely at the floor. Plain and to the point the beats shuffle nicely why the bass stays minimal punching through the mix. Things get deep midway with oldschool style bleeps and dub style vocals as the beats roll on. One for the dj’s! Both track have received good support from major dj’sin the scene and have been featured regularly in sets by Goldie, Bailey, Randall and Marcus Intalex. BS1017 Cienfuegos – Davide Carbone BS1 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. ‘Cienfuegos’: One hundred _fires in Spanish, and also one of the coolest Cuban cities. Parallels between the word and the track are hard to find, although if somewhere was burning down, the apocalyptic residue would sound something like this. ‘Deep, deep, deep’ is how some of the scenes most eulogised producers have called it. The oldest of pure analogue bass shaped using the newest techniques means this tune stands apart. Like the old days. Listen to it loud. ‘Radionuclide’ is more fun than you bargained for. Proper cutting 70‘s layered bass, over some original lead sound design and you have a bouncer that forces a smile on even those six feet under. The vocal stabs give it character and definition and the beats drive it to unrecognisable speeds. Musical, warm and bangin’. BS1 017 – The place to be.

SUBS007 Logic Gate – Machine Code Subsistenz 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. Subsistenz is back once again with another 1st for the dnb scene, bringing two peak-time floor peddlers from the freshest collaboration to come out of the subdivision camp – Machine Code aka Current Value & Dean Rodell – Neither of these two producers need introductions to any of the scenes they are planning to manipulate as these two heavy weights of the underground have been outputting quality release after release for over 20 years between them. Now after a few months of working the machine sat the Subdivision Studio in Berlin, the stock piled arsenal is ready to be broadcast and inflicted upon the minions. The Machine Code project formed out of a true respect and passion for Techno-orientated dance music and has been personified in this bar-raising first broadcast – Logic Gate …A. Logic Gate is kick-started with Mechanisms, a full-on techno assault that builds from a spine-chilling, vocal-fused pad that is gradually manipulated around a rhythm that pounds the living life out of its tonal timbres. The subtle manipulations in sound are brought to a head when the mechanisms turn to a 4/4-driven bass stomp, giving all and sundry a life line to clasp onto …B. Thermal Stress doesn’t let up in Logic Gates mission to remove charred brain cells from its listeners’ dusty caverns. EAR010 Heartbroken (Noah D Remix) – Lion Dub Ft. Jah Dan & Sotto Bless Earwax 12″ Vinyl
‘Earwax steps to the USA for this monster plate from New York City roots/dub veteran Liondub who collaborates here with Jamaican rising stars Jah Dan and Sotto Bless. Fellow stateside producer Noah D takes the dubstep refix duties with a floor smashing b-line. The result is an outstanding roots/dubstep crossover that is – for once – totally original. ‘Heartbroken’ sees Jah Dan & Sotto Blesstake up the mic and, bouncing between each other, lay down a vocal that is measured equally between deep and energizing. With a laid back delivery they catch a flow that rolls perfectly over Liondub’s wicked instrumental that sounds like a dubstep flavoured take on Berlin veterans Rhythm & Sound ocean deep dub style. Noah D takes the original and charges the already excellent vocals with amore dancefloor friendly re-fix. BASSHEAD002 Bass Low – Otto Von Schirach Basshead Music 12″ Vinyl
Take Electro Bass Noise, Gore Grind, IDM Glitch, Calliope, Breakcore Gabber Jungle, Gangsta Rap, mix them all together and what you get? Otto Von Schirach . For ‘Bass Low’ the oddball shreds hip-hop (“I always felt that hip-hop beats need shark-bite rhythms or chain-saw sounds”), corrupts Miami Bass and perverts techno, saturating his hard drive with sonic detritus . Otto Von Schirach (halfCuban / half German) was born in 1978 in the swamp infested refugee world of Little Havana Miami. As a child his grandmother practiced Santeria and White Magic, which opened his eyes to the strange and bizarre. Otto grew up listening to Miami Bass, Gore Grind, Gangsta Rap and Afro Cuban Noise. In 1995 Otto bought his first drum machine from a crack-head just 2 blocks from his mom’s house. Right away he recognized his passion for grimy diamond soaked kick drums through distorted fuzz muck. In 2003Otto worked on the Skinny Puppy album “The Greater Wrong of the Right” which scored him a 57 show tour opening for them across the USA. He scared the living shit out of all the Skinny Puppy fans night after night with his 35 minute, 3 costume change, ear punishing dance party. After 8 albums, 10,000 shows, a 4 Gigabyte Sound Library and 7 computers, what else do you want? Otto is currently working on a bunch of new collaborations with Venetian Snares, Doormouse, Gut, Ebola, Gouch and is also in the studio working on new ideas for the next Skinny Puppy record. Otto is a true Gang Banger. A true slave to the sound wave, he will always make love to speakers worldwide. BassHead Music is a label from A-Sides and Juan BassHead. The label is based in Miami, Florida and intends to focus on bass-heavy dance floor music.

SUBT006 Sparse Land – Current Value & Rodell Subtrakt 12″ Vinyl
Techno titan Dean Rodell teams up with one of DnB’s most respect producers Current Value to bring you a first taste of their shared vision of Dubstep, ‘Sparse Land’. ‘Requiem’ has a deep old skool vibe, with rich synth pads that make the hair on you neck stand up and a piano to tug on the strings of your heart. Tight, techy percussion and meaty drums bind the melodic atmospheres to form a tight package Requiem is a step beyond the average; class dubstep meets old skool electronica, the finest in the underground. For the ‘Requiem’ remix we welcome Balkansky (aka Cooh) back to the fold. His mix brings Dean and CV’sconcept piece straight back to the dancefloor. A hard-hitting dub fuelled beast that punches in all the right places and a further example of the masterful audio manipulation skill of Balkansky. If ‘Corridor’ were a film it could only be described as Event Horizon meets Blade Runner. The cold, sterile ambiances and bleak ‘sci-fi’ cynicism breed with a bassline that haunts the very kit it dances with. ‘User Error’ is collaboration with new Subtrakt signing ‘Underhill’. Perhaps the most dubby cut of the EP, but still with a sense that a little Techno and DnB may lurk beneath. This is the first of many huge Underhill tracks lined up for Subtrakt over the coming months, keep your ears open and you shall not be disappointed! Supported by: Maryanne Hobbs (BBC Radio1).

HENCH001 3Kout – Jakes Hench 12″ Vinyl
Re- Released due to demand. The first release on the now well-established Bristol dubstep label, Hench, it was fitting that the debut12” came from Papa ‘Ench himself, JAKES. Now known as the launch pad for such artists as Komonazmuk & Chasing Shadows, the Hench label is strongly responsible for the rapid growth of the dubstep scene. And with genre-shaking releases like Jakes’ ‘Rock ThaBells’ and ‘Warface’, there’s no doubt that this label is going from strength to strength. Having already dropped a seriously well received remix of Martin Buttrich’s ‘Well Done’ on 420 Recordings that went straight to Number One in the Dubstep Chart, Jakes followed up with two of his very own productions for Hench’s debut release.
A – 3KOUT – 3KOUT is pure Bristolian dubstep with deep resonant subs alongside the unique bass sound now associated with Hench. This tune is instantly recognisable and quickly received support from Mary Ann Hobbs (Radio 1), Chef, Pinch, Oris Jay and Skream to name a few. According to N-TYPE “3Kout isone of the biggest tunes on road right now – it mashes up any dance. It sounds like some mad generator starting up, moving into a full furious skank out!”
AA – 2 STEPS BACK – 2 STEPS BACK is another classic Jakes production. It’s an extension of the sound that Jakes stumbled upon when making 3Kout. You can hear Jakes’ unique sound developing throughout the track. This tune is a tried and tested weapon to have the dance floor nodding heads in time with those wonky bass rhythms.

EX7001 Yin Yang – Excision Ft. DZ EX7 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. No doubt the majority of you will have already heard of Excision, one of the leading lights of the North American dubstep scene. His studio mixes have received over 60,000 downloads from one file sharing site alone, while his Rottun Recordings label regularly tops the sales charts, stacking up thousands of sales for each release on Beatport alone! Recently his official remix of Pendulum’s ‘Showdown’ brought the sound of filthy dubstep to the masses and has clocked up over 120,000 plays on the band’s Myspace page. Meanwhile DJs such as BBC 1Xtra’s Mistajam have been all over his signature sound. With so much attention from club land and the media alike, Excision thought it was time to start a new imprint, geared to release the very biggest of the tracks inhis record box. Teaming up with Infectious PR who will be managing and promoting the label on his behalf, Excision is ready to kickoff EX7 (pronounced Ex-Seven, for those not in the know) with a pair of downright bangers. ‘Yin Yang’ featuring DZ is straight up LFO based dubstep at it’s finest. Featuring an ambient intro that lulls you into a false sense of security before smacking you round the face with a bass line so big it could be seen from space (that’s a ridiculous thing to say, don’t think we don’t know how ludicrous our own press releases sound). This track is also rumoured to appear on Snoop Dogg’s forthcoming ‘Dubstep LA’ mixtape, so watch out for some serious commercial crossover business. Flip over and ‘Obvious’ takes a surprisingly less obvious approach than you might think. Drawing out electro influences and blending them expertly with Excision’s unique hard-hitting style ‘Obvious’ is packed with energy for the dance floor but with plenty to keep you interested at home. Anyone who likes to mix up electro with dubstep should beslipping this into their sets.

HENCH009 Who’s The Hardest / The Shivers – Eddie K Hench 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. Introducing the first 12” from Eddie K on the HENCH imprint – two chunky slabs of dubstep are in order from this young, talented Bristol-based producer – this 12” is already a big favourite of Caspa and where this man leads, everyone else follows, so enjoy, and expect more big things from Eddie K in the coming months.
A. WHO’S THE HARDEST First up, staying true to his D&B roots, Eddie K brings us some fresh, fruity jungle flavours, with ‘Who’s The Hardest’. With a ragga vocal sample and repeated clicking of a trigger in the background – get your gun-fingers ready for this one, dubstep soldiers – as the tune smashes into the drop with some heavy bassline action and hard-hitting beats. Bringing the jungle influences into the dubstep sphere, ‘Who’s The Hardest’ has a very strong presence about it – so, beware cowards!
AA.THE SHIVERS Flip over, for something a little more serious that will definitely give you ‘The Shivers’. Kicking off with a bold, brash opening orchestral strings, and booming beat, the Dr Who-style synth lead, and faded ominous vocal sampling, are spooky and atmospheric. The tune almost twists into the drop with a sudden drum roll spasm, and, as the sci-fi vocal sample repeats, “this is a journey into music and sound”. With a pounding beat and classic sci-fi effects, ‘The Shivers’ is a fantastic piece of badness. Already a favourite of Caspa’s, as well as big support by other big dubstep players, including: Plastician, N Type, Hatcha and Rossi B, get hold of this as soon as you can – it’s going to be a massive hit. www.myspace.com/djeddiekuk
