CIADK019 Sugar Hill – Lenzman C.I.A. Deep Kut 12″ Vinyl
Following his awesome remix of Total Science & Conrad’s modern classic ‘Soul Patrol’, Lenzman hooks up with the CIA crew once more for another duo of deep kuts. Everyone’s been talking about ‘Sugar Hill’ thanks to its inimitable style and Lenzman’s signature rolling throughout. Solid beats and a nifty synth hook make way for wide open atmospherics and a gradual build up to a drop which oozes with class. Rising pads and a muted reese bass are peppered with a soulful vocal snippet which makes this track completely irresistible. On the flip ‘Memory Loss’ is an exercise in beautiful minimalism as percussive licks mingle with interspersed vocals and epic pad swirls. Lenzman shows you how to make a track which is simple, yet highly effective. We hope you were paying attention, kids! Look out for CIADK020 – Henree & Hitten, dropping soon. DJ Support: Goldie, Marcus Intalex, Total Science, Commix and more.

OK017 Antique Antic / King Stays King – Martsman / Raiden & Khanage Offkey 12″ Vinyl
Finish copies. Raiden’s label always comes with something different from the usual D&B formula rubbish. Martsman’s track is very impressive, with his refreshing future sound. On the other side it’s business as usual from Raiden with help from Khanage, its funky, and not as full on as normal, but again right at the cutting edge. Martsman got into Drum&Bass around the end of the 90s. Debuting on New York based Offshore Recordings in 2005, he released on smaller as well as established labels like Alphacut Records or Counter Intelligence in the following years. In 2008, tracks on Warm Communications and Hospital Records’ sub label Med School attract the attention of a steadily growing audience also from outside the Drum&Bass scene.

NZLP002S Innuendo Phase Three – Trei Samurai Music 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. The final vinyl component of Trei’s critically acclaimed debut LP / CD ‘Innuendo’ unleashes a collaboration between 2 of New Zealand’s most potent dancefloor technicians. State Of Mind & Trei got together to produce the final tune for ‘Innuendo’ and the collective vibe was instantly focused directly on maximum crowd movement. ‘Thunder Biscuit’ was produced in one day of fruitful labour with all 3 talents at the boards. The reaction from around the world was positive and swift, with every DJ sent the tune supporting as soon as they got a chance to play out. ‘Innuendo’ on the flip is the title track of the LP, and serves up a menacing, rollicking vibe with breaks climbing all over the punishing, winding bass. Trei has personally used this as his opening tune for some time and if you need a statement of powerful intent, then ‘Innuendo’ will provide for you every time. Dj support from Pendulum, Ed Rush, Friction, Klute and many more besides.

Opening the label’s musical account, Bristol resident and long-time Utopia supporter Break (Symmetry) steps up to deliver Natural Progression. On the reverse, dBridge (Exit Records) remixes a track created by label boss Mako and Andy Skopes (Good Looking) back in 2006 that remains unreleased despite a large amount of DJ support and an appearance on Fierce & Break’s cover-mount mix CD for ATM Magazine. SCULT003 Swoop / Funk Me Hard – Sleeper Cell & Maztek Subculture 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. Usually when we think of Italy we think of designer labels, opera, fast cars, fine art and fine foods. Italian based Subculture Records however are looking to add firin’ drum & bass to that list as they present their third release from label owner Maztek and UK producers Sleeper Cell. Batton down the hatches, things are about to get rowdy! Sci-fi sounds capes are rife as Sleeper Cell and Maztek team up for ‘Swoop’ to open up Scult003 with its rich textured break, eerie pads and industrial fx. After a tense dropout it’s time to move out as the super-sick bass rocks into the mix along with the rugged beats to provide a great example of the neurofunk sound. Fans of Noisia, Break and the like will lap this one up. Then Maztek goes it alone for ‘Funk Me Hard’, another excursion into the dark twisted world of techy d&b but with as the name suggests, a little more funk. Absolute carnage is what this one causes on the drop of filthy bass, warped vox and yet more production wizardry. Crank it up! DJ support so far from Ed Rush, State Of Mind, Chris Renegade, Optiv, Masheen, Axiom and more.

a Sleeper Cell & Maztek – Swoop
b Sleeper Cell & Maztek – Funk Me Hard

FALLOUT001 Phantom / Razzle-Dazzle – N.Phect Fall Out 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. Fall Out’s debut release comes courtesy of Berlin based producer N.Phect. Phantom kicks off with rolling beats that are constantly developed throughout the track and added to with N.Phect’s unmistakeable brand of dirty funk. Razzle Dazzle is less of an easy going affair as enormous amounts of bass right from the off build towards a disgusting, pounding drop that devastates dancefloors. Both tracks have been causing carnage across the world thanks to DJ support from Ed Rush, Black Sun Empire, Teebee, Cause 4 Concern, State of Mind, Phace, Prolix, Bulletproof, Misanthrop and Cern to name but a few.

RAMP025 Party – FaltyDL Ramp Recordings 12″ Vinyl
FaltyDL returns to RAMP after the painfully deep ‘To London’, and his acclaimed ‘Love Is A Liability’ album on some other label earlier this year, with a new 12” of sleazy 2step vibes. “Party” gets things moving with DL’s most organic production to date, resonating in your brain like the jaded memory of an uncomfortable lap dance from an impromptu trip to the future. Flip the wax for the warm fuzzy minimal garage vibes of “Alpafun”, a tune that Mr. Lustman hates so much, he never wanted it to see the light of day. Just to spite the cocky New Yorker, we are putting it out. DJ SUPPORT FROM MARY ANNE HOBBS, GILLES PETERSON, BENJI B, ROB DA BANK, ONEMAN.

Now seven releases in, the Chestplate imprint is well and truly established as a buy-on-sight label. This time around sees a new Distance anthem on side A, accompanied by a Pinch reversion of Distance’s modern classic ‘V’ on the flip. Twilight is Distance in primetime dancefloor destruction mode. No messin’! The theremin like spooky ambient melodies oscillate and brood, making way for the trademark Distance crunching riff. It smacks of Distance on top of his game. It slays and it dips, only to come back harder. This one should remind the Dubstep new skool that you don’t have to tear your brain out to make tear out. Turn the 12 over and original badman, Bristol lynchpin Pinch, comes correct with his version of the Distance speaker wrecker V. Pinch twists up and reconfigures the original into a new sonic horror show. This should be the office ambience of torture chambers everywhere. Pinch suppresses the drive and riff of Distance’s version, accentuating the more unnerving elements; yes it’s subtle, but it’s not any less devastating. If the system packs enough punch, this one will literally turn guts. Major support comes from the crop of discerning dubstep DJs, with full blessings coming from the likes of Skream, Mary Anne Hobbs and Hatcha. Alongside contemporaries like Benga, Skream, Pinch and Digital Mystikz, Distance has been responsible for shaping the Dubstep sound as we know it today. Distance fans can also check out his brand new album entitled Repercussions, out now on Planet Mu, accompanied by a second CD of all the Chestplate tracks to date.

KGO002 The Love Quadrant – Space Dimension Controller Kinnego Records 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy promo’s. Full artwork sleeves. Electronic / Dubstep label Kinnego Records started by Boxcutter out of Northern Ireland is back! After the success of the first release (by Boxcutter himself) he introduces the masses to a producer named ‘Space Dimension Controller’….the techno funk alias of 19-year-old Jack Hamill. Following on perfectly from Boxcutter and Kinnego Flux’s “A Familiar Sound” on KGO001, it features 2 tracks of deep, loved-up electro. Equally inspired by both the tape warped soundtrack to Garth Merenghi’s Darkplace and early Aphex Twin, Jack’s all-analogue production gives his tracks a timeless sound that’s a mile away from contemporary electro and house. The beats are low slung and funky, and the melodies are addictive and show a natural flair. On “The Love Quadrant”, a girl / boy vocal exchange sets the scene while the track builds momentum, before the whole thing spaces off on a sweet minimoog solo. On the flip, “Electropod-250 Collision” has a deep 808 pulse and flanged bass, topped off with Detroit-inspired melodies and blurred out reverbs.

AR030 Last Drop / In the Background – MRK 1 / Cyrus Eight:FX 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. Both MRK1 and Cyrus’ records can consistency be heard all over the world tearing through your local club’s subs and blowing up the speakers in your 10 watt radio as you listen to any of the number of electronic DJs on BBC Radio 1, 1xtra, Kiss FM etc now supporting the bass heavy genre that dominates music’s lowest frequencies. For this 12” two of Dubstep’s most established artists return to Eight:FX for the next in the labels Future:Dubstep series. To coincide with the release of MRK1’s Future:Dubstep:03 compilation, him and Cyrus each present two massive chest cavity shattering, club smashes which have received support from some of the biggest names in the scene and the likes of Kiss FM and BBC 1xtra on Crissy Criss’ Drum & Bass show. MRK1 was there from the start. He’s appeared on every major Dubstep radio station, as well as BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra and Kiss FM. He’s toured the world, and been featured in magazines from RWD and Knowledge to Mixmag, and this months I-DJ, making him without shadow of doubt one of the most established players in the Dubstep scene, ever. Cyrus is another of Dubstep’s veterans. Having released on legendary labels including Hyperdub and Techtonic, played all over the globe at the genre’s most prestigious events and venues, as well as on BBC Radio 1. Having taken almost a year away from vinyl following Hatcha Vs Kromestar’s Brother’s Grim LP, and concentrating on a host of successful digital releases, Eight:FX recently returned to 12” for a series of vinyl to coincide with their Future:Dubstep compilations. 01 was mixed by Kiss FM’s Hatcha while 02 was mixed by newcomers Bare Noize. The first Future: Dubstep 12” release featured tracks from both of these artists and was the start of a new push for Eight:FX to build back up vinyl fan’s awareness of the label. This is the second step, featuring tracks that have been supported around the world, and released alongside the 2 x CD compilation mixed by MRK1 (which contains over 45 completely exclusive tracks from other Dubstep superstars including Crazy D, Hatcha, and Kromestar) this is sure to see Eight:FX not only topping digital genre charts but also in the top echelons of the physical charts once again.

FRJ005 Reminder – Sully Frijsfo Beats 12″ Vinyl
Super Limited white label. Griping about dubstep seems pretty pointless at the moment – for almost every formulaic record on the shelves, there’s another young, creative producer beating a much more interesting path. Norwich’s Jack Stevens – better known as Sully – is justifiably seen as one of those individuals. Tantalisingly doing the rounds on dub for long enough now, “Reminder” and “Jackman’s Rec” should usher in Sully’s biggest moment yet. Since Blackdown (AKA Martin Clark) included both in his end-of-year dubstep chart for Pitchfork, he and DJ partner Dusk have supported the tunes consistently on Rinse FM and at FWD>>, also featuring “Jackman’s Rec” in their XLR8R magazine podcast last year. “Reminder” has subsequently been deployed in sets by Ben UFO, Pangaea and Tomb Crew, the latter including it in their recent contribution to FACT magazine’s respected mix series. One of Sully’s tricks is that his music never falls into predictable slots. “Reminder” might be a peak-time, late-summer skanker, but there isn’t a clichéd reggae sample in earshot. Instead, it’s closer to a translation of pioneering producer Pole’s crackly dub abstractions into dancefloor form. “Jackman’s Rec” is a velvety roller that on one level, is the best example so far of how Sully’s intuition for swing allows him to nail the dark sensuality of early FWD>> beats. Yet at the same time, it’s in no way trapped in nostalgia for that era, simply sounding like the next step for future garage. “Reminder” / “Jackman’s Rec” is released on 12” vinyl and digital formats, including 50 12” white-labels available in advance. In addition, two more excursions from Sully, “Sleazy” and “Cadillac”, are on sale as downloads only, recommended in September by Boomkat.

RWINA004 Half Man Half Trout / 20 Red – Taz Buckfaster Rwina Records 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. The fourth Rwina sees the light of yet another Taz Buckfaster 12 inch that’s going down in a true epic vein, one for the anthem horny jocks. So if you are into the grimy synth heavy side of things then better check this one out. Taz is on the case with the A side, Half Man Half Trout has been tearing up various floors for a while now. Meaty synths, a sexy melody, smooth delicate bassstings and a sharp drumbeat to nod your head to. A sure shot production that’ll leave and left tons of people wonder what that just was. It seems there aint no stopping the Taz because again he pulls it off on the flip with his other dancefloor smasher called 20 Red. 8 Bit bleeps and again a brutal squeezy synthline that’ll make your mouth water. Its like Snoop Dogg is floating on this orange cloud on his way to Jamaica to fill up his stash. A tune that finishes of this 12 inch in style and cements Taz as one to watch in the future! With releases coming up on Numbers (former Wireblock), Subway and a debut album on Rwina it shows that this is one producer we’ll hear alot more about! Check out Taz buckfasters interview with Sonic Router too! http://sonicrouter.blogspot.com/2009/09/interview-taz-buckfaster.html

PROPH115 Gotta Have It – MJ Cole feat. Digga Prolific Recordings 12″ Vinyl
Production legend, scene stealer and one time MERCURY MUSIC PRIZE nominee MJ COLE hooks up with Atlantic Records latest signing and one of the freshest vocal and song writing talents in the country, DIGGA, for what is set to be a HUGE radio and club smash – GOTTA HAVE IT! MJ COLE layers his distinctly piercing strings with DIGGA’S soft but overtly masculine tones to weave a tale of unrequited love with a twist. Couple that with the infectious bassline provided by this production wizard and the pair are definitely sitting on a potential hit! At the age of 24 Matt Coleman better known as MJ COLE became one of the first artists to crossover from the burgeoning UK Garage scene to mainstream success. Grounded in a culture obsessed with authenticity, he was almost unique in simultaneously drawing praise from his lesser-known peers as easily as the critics (the album, ‘SINCERE’ was nominated for the MERCURY MUSIC PRIZE) and the record-buying masses (two top ten singles with ‘SINCERE’ and ‘CRAZY LOVE’). The album was certified silver in the UK alone, and a MOBO award for Best Producer cemented Matt’s reputation. His list of remix credits are as star studded as any, from MARIAH CAREY, ROOTS MANUVA, DIDO, NITIN SAWNEY, DE LA SOUL and LAMB he’s been one of the most sought after producers for the last ten years. GOTTA HAVE IT is the first single from the forthcoming as yet untitled album and teams MJ up with rising star DIGGA, the man behind huge internet hit BROKEN who has recently featured on the massive CHASE & STATUS album MORE THAN A LOT. Along with the firing original version GOTTA HAVE also features a further six remixes from the likes of ILL BLU, MICKY SLIM, PENFOLD, CONTROL S, EPYDEMIX and MJ’s very own FUNKY DUBB taking DIGGA’s vocal in a number of inspired directions.

coming soon: “Natural History” LP – Blu Mar Ten

Posted 17 September 2009 | By Editor | Categories: news, tracks, video | 3 Comments

Few musical acts can lay claim to such dynamic and consistent evolution as Blu Mar Ten. Formed in the big-bang of 90’s drum & bass and regular faces at Rage, Metalheadz, Speed & AWOL, Blu Mar Ten were rapidly spotted by LTJ Bukem and signed to Good Looking Records, cementing their position in the genre as originators of complex, atmospheric music.

They quickly grew and mutated beyond the confines of the jungle into lush experimentation with downtempo, ambient, house, breaks, techno & left-field for labels such as Naked Music, Guidance, Big Chill, with two full albums of non-d&b material on Exceptional Records.

blumartenpress

This new material saw Blu Mar Ten gain support from DJs such as Tom Middleton, Rennie Pilgrem, Pete Tong, Felix da Housecat, Ben Watt, Carl Cox, Lee Burridge, Erol Alkan, Howie B and Mary Anne Hobbs.

Blu Mar Ten also remixed a series of major and independent artists, including Erykah Badu, Annie Lennox, Alicia Keys, Terry Lee Brown Junior, Jakatta, The Ananda Project, Doc Scott, Fink and Blame.

2005 saw Blu Mar Ten return to the drum & bass scene, with the next 18 months producing a string of releases on labels such as Hospital, Renegade Hardware, Shogun Audio, 31 Records, Tangent, Phuzion, Vibez & Basement.

2009 has already seen the release of the ‘Close’ and ‘Believe Me’ EPs, preludes to Blu Mar Ten’s long-awaited first full drum & bass album. Scheduled for late 2009, the album promises to deliver an incredibly wide range of drum & bass tracks from the deeply abstract to the unashamedly dancefloor, all bearing Blu Mar Ten’s trademark stamp of quality.

blumartenpress2

DJ support for Blu Mar Ten’s new material has been pouring in from right across the d&b family tree, leaving you in no doubt at the trio’s position at the forefront of the scene…

NONPLUS002 Watching You – Instra:mental Nonplus Records 12″ Vinyl
Instra:mental present the second release from their Nonplus imprint after the hugely successful Nonplus 001 ‘Wonder Where’ / ‘No Future’. This release consists of two tracks from Instra:mental. Again, the A side contains the vocal talent of frequent collaborator dBridge, and for the B side they switch up the style into what can only be described as Dub Techno. a) Instra:mental ‘Watching You’ stands up to the quality levels set by Nonplus 001 and continues the fusion of original vocals, Detroit influenced chords and their trademark tight percussion. Ice-cold robotic vocals and heart-warming chord stabs will make the hairs on your neck stand on end Listen after listen. This tune is a timeless piece of music that no amount of jargon can justifiably explain. If you like the recent output from these guys then you will love this tune. aa) Instra:mental ‘Tramma’ is a 4/4 offering made of elements from Dub, Techno and DnB but is hard to pigeonhole into any particular genre. For descriptive purposes well call it dub techno. Once again we can hear their influences from all things electronic, and here we have an example of the variance that we expect from Nonplus and a glimpse of the vision that Instra:mental have for the future of this label.

EXIT016 Melodies feat Mike Knight – Spectrasoul Exit Recordings 12″ Vinyl
Spectrasoul provide their debut single on Exit Records, which consists of two tracks written especially for the label. These two producers have proved their talent time and time again with a string of releases over the past two years and are definitely ones to watch in 2009/10. ‘Melodies’ is a clever combination of melancholic synth samples, used courtesy of legendary minimal electronica producers Isan, featuring the vocal talents of up and coming American RnB singer Mike Knight. An unconventional beat pattern makes this track stand out from the crowd and provides a refreshing break on the dancefloor. ‘Insignia’ comes with similar vibes on the B side, starting off with emotive pads and vocal snippets, dropping with low down sub stabs over another unconventional but highly effective beat. Both tracks have had support on the highly acclaimed autonomic podcasts (www.club-autonomic.com) and are receiving heavy rotation from DJs such as dBridge, Instramental and Dubstep pioneer DJ Skream, which highlights the versatility of these tracks and the potential to cross into Dj sets from different genres.

OSR022 Sweet Spot / Radiate – Alley Cat / Vaccine Offshore 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. Alley Cat “Sweet Spot” Perhaps D&B’s most underrated female DJ is back in the studio again. Offshore is proud to host her first production resurfacing- “Sweet Spot”. A very progressive and forward thinking piece of music. Some would say that it fits into the current ‘minimal’ sound being championed by Instramental and D-Bridge, but why pigeon hole it? Vaccine “Radiate” Yet another edm vixen, Vaccine flips this girl power 12″ with a Dubstep offering. “Radiate” is both sparkling and beautiful, yet a bit grimey underneath. It is truly a breathtaking affair with lovely strings and ethereal samples. Already praised by Mary Ann Hobbs and Kid Drama, this track is sure to be remembered.

NONPLUS001 Wonder Where / No Future – dBridge / Instra:mental Nonplus Records 12″ Vinyl
After arriving back on the scene in 2006 Instra:mental have fast gained a reputation for re-sharpening the cutting edge approach to making music. Taking influence from their love of electronica and incorporating it into a fresh and unorthodox style, they have managed to create a distinctive and inspiring sound. In 2009 they have decided to start their own label in order to give them a focused outlet for their music, and also the music of other artists who they feel are on the same path. Quality, longevity, freedom of expression and nonconformity are some of the ideologies behind their new label, Nonplus+ Records.
a) dBridge ‘Wonder Where’:
‘Wonder Where’ by dBridge is a fine example of how the label means to continue. dBridge is hot off the back of his debut solo album “The Gemini Principle” in which he first gave us glimpses of a talent which he shares with his brother Steve Spacek as a vocalist. Since then he has been busy continuing to lay the foundations of his own respected imprint Exit Records. If his voice sounds familiar, perhaps you have heard the track “These Words” on which he featured on Martyn’s highly regarded debut album “Great Lengths”. Wonder Where is quite unique in the way it is regularly getting played in the sets of DJs from many genres. Drum n bass dj’s such as Marcus Intalex, to soulfull house Dj’s like Benji B, and also Dubstep pioneer DJ Skream has regularly been finishing his sets with it. Dubstep legend Burial has also seen fit to include it in his upcoming DJ Kicks mix. This track is fast becoming an anthem among many different genres and is sure to be featured in many a dj’s sets for many years to come.
aa) Instra:mental ‘No Future’:
Instra:mental have chosen their own track “No Future” which is ironic considering they obviously have a very big future ahead of them. Already licensed to the highly acclaimed Commix Fabriclive.44 this track (and most of their music) manages to resurrect the ghost of early electronic music with the essence of artists such as Model 500 and the legendary Detroit techno movement of the 80s and early 90s. Using original hardware drum machines and synthesizers to create the analogue warmth and groove which was synonymous of those times, they bring elements back to the music which have been somewhat lacking in recent years and laced it with all the benefits of modern music making advancements. This track will be loved and cherished by those who appreciate good music and will play just as well in the comfort of your own home as it would in a packed out dance floor.

ARGLP02_3 The Incredible Adventures Of Kenzolika & Quetzalcoatl Among The Air Castles Part 3 – Blasta Argon Records 12″ Vinyl
Blasta met Kenzolika, Kyiv’s dubstep princess, in November 2008. It all started with a coincidence – the owls were falling, and they keep falling now. Blasta is a musician based in Vaska, St. Petersburg, Russia. Each tune on the album is filled with pure sweet emotions. Feel the tension in “Your Dub Delay”, a poignant cosmic dubstep anthem with vocals by Blasta. It doesn’t matter if you are drinking the “Black Muscatel” wine, drifting through the clouds inside a “Zeppelin Nacelle”, or just chilling and dancing slowly with beautiful girls inside the “Cosmic Lounge”. “This LP is something that has popped up from nowhere and is to be one of the best dance album’s I’ve heard in years, tracks like ‘Cosmic Lounge’ & ‘Black Muscatel’ are strong power plays from myself in the clubs and have had people singing with joy to the melodies or clenching their hearts with emotion – sumthing you don’t see in the clubs these days anymore due to the lack of good music played by the top DJs. Other tempo’s on the album shows the talent that Blasta really has with music making…….
“This album WILL be remembered for years to come!!!!!!” – Heny G
“The tunes are just snapshots of your feelings.” – Quest
“This is as deep & sexy as it gets. Blasta delivers one of the most beautiful dubstep albums ever made.” – L-Wiz
“This album is immense, breaking down boundaries in dubstep… pure vibes” – J:Kenzo
“Sophisticated dubstep music providing food for your soul! Pure jazzed out boogie! Blasta is sick!” – Distinction
“Blasta reconcilie le dubstep et la soul music. Un retour aux sources efficace!” – Von D
Blasta gives birth to a brand new sound, true future music. Music that is cooked from the most delicious rave, dub and jazz flavors ever created. This album gives you a complete feeling of tenderness and love, taken from the winter and fitting perfectly into the early spring.

BRK012 Cave Rave – Geiom & Spamchop Berkane Sol 12″ Vinyl
Geiom + Spamchop find themselves in a distant mysterious land ravaged by sub zero temperatures. Across the hills they can hear faint echoes of deep bass..Crunching through the snow towards the source they discover a party in a massive cave full of odd rock formations and sparkling crystals. The ravers seem slightly unhinged but happy, dancing to strange future music that reminds our explorers of uk garage without the bling…Spamchop records some of it into his phone for future analysis – when the pair get back to the studio ‘Cave Rave’ is the result. After the beach jam which spawned ‘Eyl Booty’ (brk011) Geiom is making preparations to leave when one of the pirates shows him a video camera with footage of their most ambitious raid – the capture of the Sirius Star oil tanker – Geiom likes the idea of this ramshackle bunch going head to head with the greedy oil barons. He agrees to make the pirates something they can pump out while they make their way across the Indian Ocean – ‘give us something with a lot of bass – we kitted out our speedboats with some tasty subwoofers’ is the request. Geiom also includes some audio from the footage for good measure. ‘Sirius Star’ is going to be rocking boats, cars and raves everywhere for some time to come…

TWISTED – INFECT
Hailing from Germany and part of the Dutty Dubs crew, Twisted is starting to make real impact on the international scene. The super slick mixdown is what first attracted us to him but it was this phenomenally heavy weight track that made us decide to release Twisted. Bass face time!

DP009 Acton Dread – Rusko Dub Police Records 12″ Vinyl
Repressed due to Demand! The most talked about producer of the moment returns for more dub wise dubstep, Rusko brings the vibes on his 2nd dub police outing The most talked about producer of the moment returns for more dub wise dubstep. The first “acton dread“, inspired by rusko’s London borough, kicks off with a summertime digi-dub bounce. hypnotic flutes and wailing vocals give way to a pulsing sub bass, reggae shuffles and catchy themes, showcasing the dub-style production that’s made Rusko a favourite of djs like skream and radio 1’s rob da bank. Listen carefully for London underground announcements lurking in the background of the tune! Flipping over we see rusko on remix duties for local boy Caspa. This toung in cheek refix sees rusko adding his trademark trance sytnths and bumpy sub bass to the lilting Japanese flute melodies, space age effects and jungle percussion. “Would you like to play your flute?”!! A simple intro with hints of devastating bass being teased in and out before the drop comes and some serious bass action that is guaranteed to get any floor moving. Transaction: Again this tune is not for the faint hearted, and is likely to rip up any dance floor. Rip roaring bass that will tear your head off and shit down your neck, and beats so tuff they should come with a health warning. Repressed due to demand.Caspa & Rusko – Soulful Geeza: Kicking off the next chapter in the LTT series is this deep track Caspa & Rusko and isn’t’ what you would quite expect from these two, whose tracks are usually all out dance floor dominators. Warm pads, trance esq. synths, and an steppy beats really set this one apart from the typical sound these two are so well known for. What better way to kick things off? Unitz – Wait A Minute: Things couldn’t get more different on the flip, as Dub Police’s very own boy wonder Unitz steps up with this sickening track. Fans of his first release (The Drop) will be digging this as the synth twists and bends like a slinky, and a crisp powerful bass and big beats carries the whole track. Proper sick stuff.

EXIT014 Thugtronik / Thugtronika – Instra:mental Exit Records 12″ Vinyl
EXIT014 brings us more amazing music, design, & packaging. After the mighty “Blush Response” collaboration with dBridge on his debut album The Gemini Principle, followed by an impressive contribution to the Aptitude Series, Instramental grace Exit Records once again with a this outstanding 12” Both have been created from the same electronic genetics and sit side by side like brother andsister. Yet another fine example of why Instramental have been getting so much attention recently. Their trademark clean anddistinctive sound has been evolving at an ever increasing rate, and here we have two extreme directions on the same 12’ that remindus what these guys are capable of. Thugtronika kicks off with a solid beat from the off and promptly brings back memories of the legendary Blue note era. Snares fly around like white hot shrapnel layered with metallic effects that paint an audio landscape akin to a futuristic war zone. Think twitching android limbs, pumping hydraulics, severed electrical cables and puddles of toxic waste. Then incomes the bass. Rumbling over the horizon like an army of thuggish robots armed with 40hz cannons flattening anything in their path. This is one of Instramentals more aggressive offerings which highlights their versatility and is sure to get your body moving. Thugtronik is like the bleak aftermath of Thugtronika, less aggressive but still with a low end capable of flattening tower blocks. Hypnotic percussion sets the tempo, and a droning undertone of pulsing bass complemented with hair raising sinister effects set themood. Whilst its ugly brother will move your body, this beautiful sister will undoubtedly stir your mind and soul.

How heavy is this? D&B lovers are familiar with The Upbeats’ distinctly searing, risk taking electro style and this sampler from their forthcoming debut is as headstrong as a mad woolly mammoth on heat. ‘Ghost Radio’ directly attacks with speed metal riffs clashing with furious cyber-keys. Constant troughs and crescendos of mood, while ‘1968’s forward thinking impresses with crazy pans and bongos. A nice fix while you wait for Ed Rush & Optical’s imminent new album. REDSEAL002 Speakeasy – Luca Samurai Red Seal 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. Another name to add to the long list of talented Drum and Bass producers from New Zealand, Tim Webb aka Luca releases his first 12″ single on new Samurai Music offshoot ‘Red Seal’. Having churned out its fair share of talented tech flavoured producers, Luca is essentially the first of his kind from New Zealand to really make an impact on the international drum and bass scene with his funky, musically rich, and at times beautifully deep sound. ‘Speakeasy’ was one of his earliest productions and sparked heavy label interest. The sax driven glide of this tune has caught many an ear and while we at samurai usually have a distinctaversion to the saxophone in drum and bass, Luca has worked it into a simple, effortless magic we just couldn’t resist. And from the thick jazz club smoke out vibe to a different kind of fog, ‘Eastern Highway’ is an early morning trip into a deserted forest on the outskirts of Japan. Stuttering breaks, rich moody bass, and an eerily soothing soundscape guide you gently through the vibe. Another truly special piece of music, from an exciting new talent. Luca has recently featured on Hospital Records latest compilation ‘SickMusic’, and Red Seal has just signed another 12″ for him for the very near future. DJ support from Marcus Intalex, Lynx, Eveson (who featured ‘Speakeasy’ in his Knowledge Mag cover Mix CD), Soul Intent, Presha and more

EAST081 Cheeba – A Sides Eastside Records 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. After holding down the controls since 1989 Eastside label head A Sides consistently tours the globe laying down sets inover 40 different countries worldwide. He still manages to find time to lock himself away in the studio and keep his creative output Consistently flowing. This release is a fine example and is the first in a series of A Sides releases leading up to the release of his upand coming second solo album due to hit the streets this winter. We set things off here with the dub inspired “Cheeba” which moves neatly with it’s percussive groove wrapped with a deep bouncy sub line, original step and sound clash style stabs to compliment creating a big dancehall vibe. Strictly for the head nodders! On the flip you will find “One Love” which is aimed purely at the floor. Plain and to the point the beats shuffle nicely why the bass stays minimal punching through the mix. Things get deep midway with oldschool style bleeps and dub style vocals as the beats roll on. One for the dj’s! Both track have received good support from major dj’sin the scene and have been featured regularly in sets by Goldie, Bailey, Randall and Marcus Intalex. Forthcoming in 2009:East 82 – A Sides & Makoto – Spacetrain / The Final Fugutive East 83 – Eastside / C.I.A collaboration – Trigger Happy (A Sides Remix) / What U Don’t Know (Total Science Remix)

Finish copy. As we move into the summer months, Coded hits it’s second release following up from the success of the mighty‘Guillotine’ and certainly shows no sign of slowing up. On release number two, label boss Phobia steps up to the A side with the heinous ‘Voltage’. Lashing drums, heavy bass and that trademark Phobia sound make this a track you just can’t ignore. Guaranteed to smash any dance floor apart… On the flip, we welcome Code 3 to the Coded family. Comprising of SP:MC, Jubei & Dakuan, this new collective is making big waves in the scene with a killer 12” already out on Friction’s Shogun Ltd imprint and forthcoming tracks on D-Bridge’s Exit Recordings. ‘Payload’ is a hark back to the golden age of DnB, stepping beats and a gut wrenching b-line make this an essential tool for any serious DJ.A Phobia – Voltage

BS1017 Cienfuegos – Davide Carbone BS1 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. ‘Cienfuegos’: One hundred _fires in Spanish, and also one of the coolest Cuban cities. Parallels between the word and the track are hard to find, although if somewhere was burning down, the apocalyptic residue would sound something like this. ‘Deep, deep, deep’ is how some of the scenes most eulogised producers have called it. The oldest of pure analogue bass shaped using the newest techniques means this tune stands apart. Like the old days. Listen to it loud. ‘Radionuclide’ is more fun than you bargained for. Proper cutting 70‘s layered bass, over some original lead sound design and you have a bouncer that forces a smile on even those six feet under. The vocal stabs give it character and definition and the beats drive it to unrecognisable speeds. Musical, warm and bangin’. BS1 017 – The place to be.

SHB007 Non Fiction / The Mirage – Cern / Duo Infernale Shady Brain 12″ Vinyl

Collaborations with like-minded artists such as d-Bridge, Loxy, Phace and Misanthrop, Logistics, and Bulletproof speak for themselves. Cern’s shadybrain debut ‘Non Fiction’ underlines what he is about, providing a sick breakbeat groove right from the beginning just to develop into a true techfunk influenced sub-bass monster. SUBS007 Logic Gate – Machine Code Subsistenz 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. Subsistenz is back once again with another 1st for the dnb scene, bringing two peak-time floor peddlers from the freshest collaboration to come out of the subdivision camp – Machine Code aka Current Value & Dean Rodell – Neither of these two producers need introductions to any of the scenes they are planning to manipulate as these two heavy weights of the underground have been outputting quality release after release for over 20 years between them. Now after a few months of working the machine sat the Subdivision Studio in Berlin, the stock piled arsenal is ready to be broadcast and inflicted upon the minions. The Machine Code project formed out of a true respect and passion for Techno-orientated dance music and has been personified in this bar-raising first broadcast – Logic Gate …A. Logic Gate is kick-started with Mechanisms, a full-on techno assault that builds from a spine-chilling, vocal-fused pad that is gradually manipulated around a rhythm that pounds the living life out of its tonal timbres. The subtle manipulations in sound are brought to a head when the mechanisms turn to a 4/4-driven bass stomp, giving all and sundry a life line to clasp onto …B. Thermal Stress doesn’t let up in Logic Gates mission to remove charred brain cells from its listeners’ dusty caverns. A brutal attack of constant clinical pressure builds and binds soundscapes to a point of pure audio hedonism. EAR010 Heartbroken (Noah D Remix) – Lion Dub Ft. Jah Dan & Sotto Bless Earwax 12″ Vinyl
‘Earwax steps to the USA for this monster plate from New York City roots/dub veteran Liondub who collaborates here with Jamaican rising stars Jah Dan and Sotto Bless. Fellow stateside producer Noah D takes the dubstep refix duties with a floor smashing b-line. The result is an outstanding roots/dubstep crossover that is – for once – totally original. ‘Heartbroken’ sees Jah Dan & Sotto Blesstake up the mic and, bouncing between each other, lay down a vocal that is measured equally between deep and energizing. With a laid back delivery they catch a flow that rolls perfectly over Liondub’s wicked instrumental that sounds like a dubstep flavoured take on Berlin veterans Rhythm & Sound ocean deep dub style. Noah D takes the original and charges the already excellent vocals with amore dancefloor friendly re-fix. The swooping bass line that hits when the chorus drops will turn your insides out – cutting through the full sub frequency range to guarantee it will hit the right spot in any dance, any room with a system in. Drop heavy and stand proud –this is a huge version. Support from: Pinch, Plastician, N-type, RSD, MRK1, Appleblim and many more…

BASSHEAD002 Bass Low – Otto Von Schirach Basshead Music 12″ Vinyl
Take Electro Bass Noise, Gore Grind, IDM Glitch, Calliope, Breakcore Gabber Jungle, Gangsta Rap, mix them all together and what you get? Otto Von Schirach . For ‘Bass Low’ the oddball shreds hip-hop (“I always felt that hip-hop beats need shark-bite rhythms or chain-saw sounds”), corrupts Miami Bass and perverts techno, saturating his hard drive with sonic detritus . Otto Von Schirach (halfCuban / half German) was born in 1978 in the swamp infested refugee world of Little Havana Miami. As a child his grandmother practiced Santeria and White Magic, which opened his eyes to the strange and bizarre. Otto grew up listening to Miami Bass, Gore Grind, Gangsta Rap and Afro Cuban Noise. In 1995 Otto bought his first drum machine from a crack-head just 2 blocks from his mom’s house. Right away he recognized his passion for grimy diamond soaked kick drums through distorted fuzz muck. In 2003Otto worked on the Skinny Puppy album “The Greater Wrong of the Right” which scored him a 57 show tour opening for them across the USA. He scared the living shit out of all the Skinny Puppy fans night after night with his 35 minute, 3 costume change, ear punishing dance party. After 8 albums, 10,000 shows, a 4 Gigabyte Sound Library and 7 computers, what else do you want? Otto is currently working on a bunch of new collaborations with Venetian Snares, Doormouse, Gut, Ebola, Gouch and is also in the studio working on new ideas for the next Skinny Puppy record. Otto is a true Gang Banger. A true slave to the sound wave, he will always make love to speakers worldwide. BassHead Music is a label from A-Sides and Juan BassHead. The label is based in Miami, Florida and intends to focus on bass-heavy dance floor music.

SUBT006 Sparse Land – Current Value & Rodell Subtrakt 12″ Vinyl
Techno titan Dean Rodell teams up with one of DnB’s most respect producers Current Value to bring you a first taste of their shared vision of Dubstep, ‘Sparse Land’. ‘Requiem’ has a deep old skool vibe, with rich synth pads that make the hair on you neck stand up and a piano to tug on the strings of your heart. Tight, techy percussion and meaty drums bind the melodic atmospheres to form a tight package Requiem is a step beyond the average; class dubstep meets old skool electronica, the finest in the underground. For the ‘Requiem’ remix we welcome Balkansky (aka Cooh) back to the fold. His mix brings Dean and CV’sconcept piece straight back to the dancefloor. A hard-hitting dub fuelled beast that punches in all the right places and a further example of the masterful audio manipulation skill of Balkansky. If ‘Corridor’ were a film it could only be described as Event Horizon meets Blade Runner. The cold, sterile ambiances and bleak ’sci-fi’ cynicism breed with a bassline that haunts the very kit it dances with. ‘User Error’ is collaboration with new Subtrakt signing ‘Underhill’. Perhaps the most dubby cut of the EP, but still with a sense that a little Techno and DnB may lurk beneath. This is the first of many huge Underhill tracks lined up for Subtrakt over the coming months, keep your ears open and you shall not be disappointed! Supported by: Maryanne Hobbs (BBC Radio1).

HENCH001 3Kout – Jakes Hench 12″ Vinyl
Re- Released due to demand. The first release on the now well-established Bristol dubstep label, Hench, it was fitting that the debut12” came from Papa ‘Ench himself, JAKES. Now known as the launch pad for such artists as Komonazmuk & Chasing Shadows, the Hench label is strongly responsible for the rapid growth of the dubstep scene. And with genre-shaking releases like Jakes’ ‘Rock ThaBells’ and ‘Warface’, there’s no doubt that this label is going from strength to strength. Having already dropped a seriously well received remix of Martin Buttrich’s ‘Well Done’ on 420 Recordings that went straight to Number One in the Dubstep Chart, Jakes followed up with two of his very own productions for Hench’s debut release.
A – 3KOUT – 3KOUT is pure Bristolian dubstep with deep resonant subs alongside the unique bass sound now associated with Hench. This tune is instantly recognisable and quickly received support from Mary Ann Hobbs (Radio 1), Chef, Pinch, Oris Jay and Skream to name a few. According to N-TYPE “3Kout isone of the biggest tunes on road right now – it mashes up any dance. It sounds like some mad generator starting up, moving into a full furious skank out!”
AA – 2 STEPS BACK – 2 STEPS BACK is another classic Jakes production. It’s an extension of the sound that Jakes stumbled upon when making 3Kout. You can hear Jakes’ unique sound developing throughout the track. This tune is a tried and tested weapon to have the dance floor nodding heads in time with those wonky bass rhythms.

EX7001 Yin Yang – Excision Ft. DZ EX7 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. No doubt the majority of you will have already heard of Excision, one of the leading lights of the North American dubstep scene. His studio mixes have received over 60,000 downloads from one file sharing site alone, while his Rottun Recordings label regularly tops the sales charts, stacking up thousands of sales for each release on Beatport alone! Recently his official remix of Pendulum’s ‘Showdown’ brought the sound of filthy dubstep to the masses and has clocked up over 120,000 plays on the band’s Myspace page. Meanwhile DJs such as BBC 1Xtra’s Mistajam have been all over his signature sound. With so much attention from club land and the media alike, Excision thought it was time to start a new imprint, geared to release the very biggest of the tracks inhis record box. Teaming up with Infectious PR who will be managing and promoting the label on his behalf, Excision is ready to kickoff EX7 (pronounced Ex-Seven, for those not in the know) with a pair of downright bangers. ‘Yin Yang’ featuring DZ is straight up LFO based dubstep at it’s finest. Featuring an ambient intro that lulls you into a false sense of security before smacking you round the face with a bass line so big it could be seen from space (that’s a ridiculous thing to say, don’t think we don’t know how ludicrous our own press releases sound). This track is also rumoured to appear on Snoop Dogg’s forthcoming ‘Dubstep LA’ mixtape, so watch out for some serious commercial crossover business. Flip over and ‘Obvious’ takes a surprisingly less obvious approach than you might think. Drawing out electro influences and blending them expertly with Excision’s unique hard-hitting style ‘Obvious’ is packed with energy for the dance floor but with plenty to keep you interested at home. Anyone who likes to mix up electro with dubstep should beslipping this into their sets.

HENCH009 Who’s The Hardest / The Shivers – Eddie K Hench 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. Introducing the first 12” from Eddie K on the HENCH imprint – two chunky slabs of dubstep are in order from this young, talented Bristol-based producer – this 12” is already a big favourite of Caspa and where this man leads, everyone else follows, so enjoy, and expect more big things from Eddie K in the coming months.
A. WHO’S THE HARDEST First up, staying true to his D&B roots, Eddie K brings us some fresh, fruity jungle flavours, with ‘Who’s The Hardest’. With a ragga vocal sample and repeated clicking of a trigger in the background – get your gun-fingers ready for this one, dubstep soldiers – as the tune smashes into the drop with some heavy bassline action and hard-hitting beats. Bringing the jungle influences into the dubstep sphere, ‘Who’s The Hardest’ has a very strong presence about it – so, beware cowards!
AA.THE SHIVERS Flip over, for something a little more serious that will definitely give you ‘The Shivers’. Kicking off with a bold, brash opening orchestral strings, and booming beat, the Dr Who-style synth lead, and faded ominous vocal sampling, are spooky and atmospheric. The tune almost twists into the drop with a sudden drum roll spasm, and, as the sci-fi vocal sample repeats, “this is a journey into music and sound”. With a pounding beat and classic sci-fi effects, ‘The Shivers’ is a fantastic piece of badness. Already a favourite of Caspa’s, as well as big support by other big dubstep players, including: Plastician, N Type, Hatcha and Rossi B, get hold of this as soon as you can – it’s going to be a massive hit. www.myspace.com/djeddiekuk
