DISF015 – dBridge – City Of Lonely Runaways / Dischord – 12″ Vinyl
dBridge is far from being a new name on anyoneʼs lips, having released music on countless labels and his own Exit Records over the last 16 years heʼs built a name for himself as being a true innovator within the electronic music scene, being versatile and unpredictable he never fails to disappoint. Here we have two analogue masterpieces that show how diverse a tempo can be. Exploring his beloved 170bpm he takes us through two emotional tracks of complex chord sequences and lush string arrangements tinted with his trademark melancholic signature. This is a buy on site release for his current fan base that have been patiently waiting, but also an ear opener for music lovers worldwide that have turned off to the formulaic and predictable mutation of D&B that has been dominating press and airwaves.

EATBRAIN002 – Jade feat. RymeTyme / Mindscape – Venom (Mindscape remix) / Banshee (Dose remix) – 12″ Vinyl
As one of the figures that helped define the neurofunk sound, Jade needs no introduction. Drawing from a wide range of influences including Konflict, The Prodigy and The Crystal Method, the Hungarian producer has been producing hit after hit for the last eleven years, with his very first release being snapped up by none other than Black Sun Empire.A veteran in his field, Jade has become an integral part of the neurofunk scene, and has been remixed by heavyweights such as Phace, Audio, and Icicle. With huge collaborations with Black Sun Empire, an infamous bootleg of Dick Dale – ‘Misirlou’ (aka ‘The Pulp Fiction theme’) as well as his own highly acclaimed album on Citrus Recordings behind him, Jade has now focused his talents to his own label – Eatbrain. Originally set up as an outlet for his own work as well as that of his close friends, Eatbrain is now set to become one of neurofunk’s most daring labels. With its first release featuring Jade & State of Mind’s ‘Here We Go’ and ‘Audio Hypnosis’ from Jade himself on the flip, this budding label has forced people to take notice from the very beginning. The Venom Remix EP follows things up in a big way and can be seen as a statement of intent, with four tracks from Jade’s very own Venom LP getting high profile remixes from some of the neurofunk scene’s most prestigious names. With a back catalogue already boasting Jade, Black Sun Empire, Fourward and Mindscape among others by only its third release, Eatbrainis a label with big plans – and big sounds to match.’Venom (Mindscape Remix)’ – The title track of Jade’s own Venom LP, the original remains as one of the most energetic, unique Neurofunk tracks around. This remix comes from Mindscape, another veteran of his field and bears all the hallmarks of another great production. Keeping the catchy MC work of Ryme Tyme that made the original so infectious, Mindscape adds a mean bassline that is sure to drive everyone on to the dancefloor. Boasting the moody vocals of Ryme Tyme along with complex percussion and an ever-shifting bassline, this is an energetic spin on a classic.’Banshee (Dose Remix)’ – Originally a tour de force by two Hungarian heavyweights in the game, this track by Jade and Mindscape gets a reworking by Dose. Originally from New Zealand, this Londoner was first discovered by Cause4Concern’s DJ Optiv, and is now a rising talent in the neurofunk scene. Kicking off with an airy synth and strings that seem to cry of impending doom, Banshee builds up and swiftly turns into a dark, bass laden juggernaut. Combining a slick bassline with hard percussion and a submerged sub bass this is moody Neurofunk at its best, and a true successor to the original.

EATBRAIN003 – Jade & Matt-U – No Cure (Black Sun Empire Remix) / Moblaw (Fourward Remix) – 12″ Vinyl
With a back catalogue already boasting Jade, Black Sun Empire, Fourward and Mindscape among others by only its third release, Eatbrainis a label with big plans – and big sounds to match.’No Cure (Black Sun Empire Remix)’ – One of the names synonymous with the darker side of Drum and Bass, this remix comes from the legendary Black Sun Empire. Beginning with a dark ominous atmosphere, this reworking of the Jade classic takes an even darker tone. Featuring a fat bassline, unsettling glitches and choice samples, this track rumbles into life and never lets up. Combining the precise, shadowy sounds of Black Sun Empire with the already dark, gritty nature of the original, ‘No Cure’ is one of the sickest tracks around.’Moblaw (Fourward Remix)’ – Offering no let up, the EP ends with a huge collaboration with Matt-U brought up to speed by the mighty Fourward. Since forming in 2007, Fourward have had releases on Virus, Nasca and Citrus as well as Blokhe4d’s Bad Taste Recordings imprint. Already a dancefloor favorite in its original guise, this slick remix takes things up a gear, with the Austrian four-piece tinkering with the memorable Reese bassline and adding an extra sense of drive, urgency and depth to an already certified banger.

PRSPCTLP002 – Eye-D & DJ Hidden – Peer to Peer Pressure [4x10” & CD Package] – Bundle
When you say Eye-D & Hidden you can only think of 3 things… Devastating kicks, ear shattering snares and chest rattling subs. These 2 pioneers of the hard styled DnB have been at it for more than 10 years already releasing together, separate or under their alias “The Outside Agency” on countless labels already. But now finally their very first album entitled “Peer to Peer Pressure” sees the light of day. The opening track “Ascender” sets the tone perfectly, it lifts you up only to let you plummet to your death and scream for your life when “Battlefield” kicks in. The menacing drop and drum patterns will destroy anything that comes in his path without remorse so brace yourself for impact.“Chemical Dreams” soothes the wounds of eardrum devastation with its epic post apocalyptic attitude and ribcage shaking subs. Then it’s off to the “Beholder” a BPM shifting, genre style fusing roller which will leave you wondering for ages to come. “Instinct” offers a different taste to the mix and shows the industrial side to the duo but drenched in melancholy. If things are already turning for the worst then there is only 1 thing that can make it worse and that’s “Rain”. When this one kicks in a shower of drums and kicks are hurled at you at the speed of light, so you better prepare yourself. “Speed Bump” shows that they can flow in any way they want to.. So this one comes equipped with a destructive Dubstep breakdown for the crossover crew and switches back with maximum rolling effect. Then last but not least for the vinyl package is “Time Device”… Eye-D & Hidden turn to a drumstep tip that will wreck any system to smithereens in mere seconds. A beat with so much destruction should be illegal in every country. For the CD owners we got 3 exclusive tracks “Transformer”, “Highways” and “Break You”. Because we know some of you guys just can’t get enough!

UNTITLED004 – 501 feat. Kaleb – Strings Attached / Smoke And Mirrors – 12″ Vinyl
Strings Attached: The trance intro might leave some confused to what to expect from the drop. But when it does it takes away all confusion and injects you with a shot of adrenaline with it’s catchy bass and filtered vocals courtesy of Kaleb. This tune has had serious impact across the globe as a dubplate and will have an even bigger impact upon it’s release.Smoke and Mirrors: Smoke and Mirrors has Finnish supertalent 501 showing his ability to fuse different elements into one big tune. From the morphing guitars in the intro to the purple drop and twisted vocals with glitchy fx further in it is clear why this producer is hot on every one’s lip. This tune just progresses and progresses and will leave you wanting to flip over to the b-side.

THIN15 – Cupp Cave – Throat Meat – 12″ Vinyl
No longer Belgium’s best-kept secret, Francis is a high prolific beat-maker, baking his beat by the dozen, under an assortment of alliases: kingfisherg (on Carte Postale, Leaving Records and Wigflip), Sineshine (on Plynt), as a member of Bretzel Zoo (on Eat Concrete), or here (or on Surf Kill or Vlek) as Cupp Cave. His ‘garbage Pail Beats’, released on Thin Consolation in 2008, were a ‘rump-shaking, head-nodding, feet-shuffling slap in the face, one for the crate-diggers and glitch-lovers’. But that chip has sailed, and this is the long-awaited follow-up EP. Once again: ‘Think nice crunchy gravel’.

SUBTLP001 – Machine Code AKA Current Value & Dean Rodell – Environments – 12″ Vinyl x 4
OH MY DAYS!!! Subtrakt drops the motherload with an album packed with the deepest and finest cuts of sub-driven machine step, by the masters and bringers of 1/4 step Current Value & Dean Rodell – Machine Code!!!’Environments’ has more flavours than an orgy in a Ben and Jerry’s factory, mixing up machine funk in a 1/4 step style with the likes of the already hailed classic ‘Machine Freak’ and the floor pounding “Circadian,” blended with the deeper dub-based creepers like flat line . ‘In the Shell’ and ‘Confessions’ offer a new breed of dubstep a cross of intense techy rhythms and tight grinding bass are compiled with distant haunting pads and vocals that infiltrate and twist your neurons beyond comprehension. Last, but far from least, are the two tracks from me on the album that sum up the diversities of Machine Code’s ‘Environments’ – ‘Kjg’ is a broken groove number with a growling bass stabbing at air wherever the intense kick pattern allows. This track is laced with ghostly dubby fx that loosely holds the sanity together within its most disturbing sub-existence. ‘The Shadow’ is the complete opposite. Slow, delicate beats produced to perfection give this monster of all bass room to drive through and collapse lungs in its wake. Machine Code & Subtrakt, harbingers of the future sound of Dub – ‘Environments’.

BFR005 – Kutz & Walsh – The Kutz & Walsh EP – 12″ Vinyl
Biscuit Factory Records returns with its fifth release. A three track EP from Walsh & Kutz which has already caused a stir amongst the scenes most dedicated followers and which encapsulates the full spectrum of the Dubstep sound as it is today. On the A side, Walsh has teamed up with Kutz to produce a massive club anthem, Wanted. With its raw industrial bass lines, moving sirens and constantly evolving mid range drones, it’s not hard to see why this track has had support from some of the scenes biggest players. On the flip side, Kutz shows his diversity, with two completely different sounding tracks. G742 is all together a techy and electro sounding track. Along with 4×4 rolling drums and colourful stabbing snares, a heavily distorted, bit crushed synth gives the track a unique sounding swing. The Warning is a much darker affair synonymous with the original dubstep sound. Incorporating a pulsating sub at the heart of the track, a futuristic synth line rides heavy hitting kicks and a whip cracking snare to truly give a glimpse of the future.DJ support from Skream, Benga and Mistajam (BBC Radio One). NType and Chef (Wheel and Deal/ Sub Freq, Rinse FM), Hatcha (Sin City, KISSFM), Subscape (Dub Police), Walsh (Biscuit Factory, Hotflush) and Kutz (W&D, Soul Jazz, Digital Soundboy)

MLTMR001 – EVM128 – Groove Content EP – 12″ Vinyl
Ross Allen’s Meltdown Music Recordings is kick-starting into life with this stunning mini album/EP from Welsh native and production talent EVM. EVM’s music holds a fine balance between the contemporary and the classic, between UK garage, broken hip-hop, and the vibe of reggae, house and soul, wrapped in velvety production and a technical style all of his own. Title track ‘Groove Content’ has been a mainstay on Ross’s weekly Ministry of sound show for six months, and it’s now in the hands of Gilles Peterson who has already hailed it as a ‘classic,’ supporting it on his BBC Radio 1 show and tearing it up on the main stage at this years’ Sonar Festival. Huw Stephens of Radio 1 also made EVM’s remix of DJ Vadim’s ‘Elope’ his Record of The Week back in Sept 2010. The other tracks on the EP are of a more down beat nature but equally as inspiring; from the Dilla-esque, tech-hop of ‘Falling’ (which features EVM’s vocal talents), to the vocodered groove of The ‘Slow Jam’ and the teched out boom-bap of ‘D N A.’ Liverpudlian vocalist Amy Wilson features and writes on the track ‘Stay,’ a reggae-inflected garage gem, plus the more forward thinking ‘U Want More.’ It’s a diverse EP; Short and sweet and super catchy.

RS1105 – Cloud Boat – Lions On The Beach / Bastion – 10″ Vinyl
It’s testament to the enduring power of the emergent and divergent bass scene that an artist such as Cloud Boat can release a two sider of such differing proportions and for it to still sound so cohesive. ‘Lions On The Beach’, the lead single on this, Cloud Boat’s debut release is not your archetypal pop song but it’s still most definitely a pop song. 3 minutes and 33 short sweet seconds of Sam Rickett’s Mogwai-esque guitar swathes and Tom Clark’s haunting vocals pitched deliberately low in the mix, cut through with rolling, precise, drum programming and deadly bottom end.On the flip, ‘Bastion’ reveals Cloud Boat’s more emotive side. They started off a recent DJ mix with a Bon Iver track, which is a good jumping off point for Bastion. That is until the sub sneaks in. The love of enchanting melodies, belies a love of the bass, and it’s this juxtaposition and the lilting tones of the high pitched vocals that encapsulate and unite the tracks on this complex and beautifully programmed single. With the knowledge that Cloud Boat have already been hand picked by both James Blake and Mount Kimbie to support them on their respective tours you can get a feel for where this incredibly fresh sounding debut is anchored in. Think Steve Reich vs. Mala sprinkled with a little Thom Yorke and some light fingered Burial along the way. Another beauty of a debut discovery by the force that is R&S.

VA003 – Joint Forces – Glidetime / Persuasion – 12″ Vinyl
Joint Forces is a collective of bass fiends from New Zealand. Comprised of Chewie, Mysterious D, and Soul Provider, the group came together from a shared love of the dark beats and heavy bass that once only drum and bass was able to provide. With releases in the hopper for Stupid Fly, Abducted Dubs, and Dub Frequency, the Joint Forces are making the rounds on the international stage with their grimey, techy sound that makes listeners nostalgic for the good old days of 160+ bpms. The boys’ remembrance of the gritty, tech step dnb is apparent in their productions, as metallic snares and dark, grinding basslines bounce back and forth in a dark ballet of bass. On Glidetime, lightly menacing synth stabs play up a dark rave feel before a couple of plodding, grinding basslines fight for bassbin supremacy. On Persuasion, the boys take a more contemporary approach, with a midrange bassline plugging along while a lightly squealing synth makes a play for today’s less patient listeners. Both dark, with a punchy production value, these two from Joint Forces are sure to hit home with dubstep fans with a bit more refined taste.
