CRITCD04 A Wandering Journal – Sabre Critical Music CD x 2
Told through narrative interludes and a musical score capturing windows in our tale; ‘A Wandering Journal’ is a voyage through experimental electronica; the debut long player from London-based producer, Sabre, and the first solo artist album on Critical Music. “Writing ‘A Wandering Journal’ has been liberating beyond expression. It’s a project I’ve had developed and hibernating for so long that looking back, I know that if it’d been left any longer it wouldn’t have been realised to its true potential. All the unwritten details of the concept and the loose narrative would have faded in my mind. Creating it when I did, whilst the concept was still strong in my mind, and my musical output was amongst the most free-spirited of my career was perfect timing. And it’s spurned me on to be even more ambitious with what I create in the future. I have to approach a new frontier now that this album is complete, and the current multimedia landscape is the perfect playground in which to elaborate on what I stand for creatively.”
“His album…outstanding. One of the most prolific producers, what this scene needs.” Goldie (Metalheadz)
Brooding, melancholic, futuristic. Sabre delivers his stellar debut LP whose persona touches unexplored depths and unfolds a truly cinematic experience. Essential.” Alix Perez (Shogun Audio)

C4CUKPD002 Scare Tactics (Picture Disc) – Cause 4 Concern C4C Recordings 12″ Vinyl
Limited Edition picture Disc. Definitely designed to intimidate those weak of will, Scare Tactics will also dominate any dancefloor you care to drop it on. Bruising beats and a twistedly belligerent bassline combine to bully the crap out of your ears in C4C’s typically ruthlessly efficient style. ‘Born Dead’ Sounding like the score for some sort of dystopian future where machines rule man, Born Dead is a foreboding, offbeat, synthetic and sinister tune. Samples swirl around your head while the bassline rises from the metallic mire to grab at your feet. Future filth indeed. DJ Support: Andy C, Friction, Hype, Bailey, Goldie, Gridlok, Fierce, Concord Dawn, Dieselboy, Prolix, Ed Rush, Bad Company plus many more…

DARKESTRALEX002 Dreadtone / Timeloss – Consequence Darkestral Excursions 12″ Vinyl
LIMITED EDITION 500 copies manufactured on black vinyl, in black reverse board, with overprinted pantone logo. Following the Keep an Eye On section accolade and 5/5 Album review ‘..downright essential’ in current edition of Mixmag, Consequence’s debut Darkestral release comes as the second in the Excursions series. ‘Dreadtone’ and ‘Timeloss’ are two essential forays into the zero gravity production style Consequence is rapidly building a name for. Heavy as molasses and just as thick atmospherically, both tracks have an almost dread-step feel to them, gaseous air pervading the cinemascopic textures and construction and warm deep bass as an undercarriage.

LFTD009 Conquerors & Commoners – Spor Lifted Music 12″ Vinyl x 2
Finish copy. Full colour artwork sleeve with Full colour poster inside.
Lifted Music presents the first EP of its 2010 release campaign, The `Conquerors and Commoners’ EP. In a scene where EPshave become somewhat lost under the ideologies of albums, Spor has produced what can only be labelled as yet another benchmark within electronic music. Four unique, distinct tracks fill an EP crafted by one of 2009′s biggest artists, compiling an exotic, yet beautifully chaotic, display that shows why Spor is of the highest grade. Engineering like the scene has never heard before, arrangements that have never been attempted before, Lifted Music proudly presents `Conquerors and Commoners’ EP
KINGDOM – Already being labelled as the tune of 2010, Kingdom is the definition of Spor at his tearout best. Aggressive, destructive and slightly punk, LFTD009′s A-side is the main highlight in every respectable DJ’s set at the moment. An accelerated build up that amps like no other, the sheer velocity of the drop leaves riots on dancefloors worldwide. Drum and Bass at unimaginable heights, Spor present’s `Kingdom’.
OVERDUE – Unlike the tracks namesake, `Overdue’ has been well worth the wait. Featuring a interesting sample for the spotters, Spor’s arrangements take to new heights with a track that features South African vocalist Tasha Baxter. Reminiscent of a rocky Moroccan landscape, intricate, graceful beats accompany a glistening guitar melody full of emotion. Baxter’s vocals add a sense of humbleness against Spor’s energetic drum patterns. `Overdue’ is the tune we all wish we wrote.
KOARI – Featuring arguably one of the biggest intro’s of all time, Kaori is Spor’s erratically well presented experiment. Based upon the influence of Japanese cinema, Spor takes his production to a new level with a vocal so euphoric and magical, it will have the whole dancefloor reaching to the skies. A tumbling, rolling drum track lays the foundations to a raw midrange – the trademark Spor sound. Finishing up with an organ arrangement, Kaori will be known as one of Spor’s finest moments.
HALOGEN – Reminiscent of `1up’ from Spor’s debut EP; The Supernova EP, `Halogen’ provides the more light hearted approach to the end of the double 12”. Furiously hyped like an overcooked pancake, Halogen resembles a biology experiment taught by the professor of all professors. Fast, high-octane, and with a melody that will leave you humming like a bumblebee for hours, Spor finishes his second EP with class.
a Spor – Kingdom
b Spor – Overdue
c Spor – Kaori
d Spor – Halogen

SFS001 Never / Never (FaltyDL Remix) – Eprom Surefire Sound 12″ Vinyl
San Francisco, CA’s Surefire Sound starts off the new decade with a bang and launches their brand new label with an energetic single by EPROM. A fast rising West Coast bass technician, DJ and producer Sander Dennis a.k.a. EPROM delivers funky, techy fourfour beats on “Never.”
EPROM’s original mix opens with rattling hi-hats and a hushed female vocal accented by EPROM’s patented twitchy synths. A hefty kick drops, braced by a thick, bouncy mid-range bass pattern. Like recent tracks by Untold or Ramadanman, “Never” blurs the divisions between dubstep, funky, techno and garage to form an irresistible new creation.
Hyped newcomer FaltyDL had a breakthrough year in 2009. The New Yorker introduced his versatile soulful electronic styles on a slew of singles for Planet Mu and Ramp. His Rephresh mix is a moody, shuffling reconstruction that features echoing samples, an infectious start-stop rhythm and mighty bass sweeps. DL’s mix is built for maximum club pressure.
About Surefire Sound:
Surefire Sound is a new record label presented by the Surefire music group whose goal is to showcase upcoming and established talent in electronic music. The label is part of a collection of projects under the Surefire banner including a booking agency, PR firm, and events management division. The releases promise an array of sounds spanning genres, appealing to home listeners and dance floors alike.

HES011 The Bells Sketch – James Blake Hessle Audio 12″ Vinyl
Hessle Audio’s eleventh release comes from James Blake, a 21-year-old from London, who has previously released for Hemlock Recordings, as well as having an EP in the pipeline for R&S. This three track EP exclusively features his own warped and manipulated vocals. James also joins Mount Kimbie for their live shows, singing as well as playing keyboard. “James Blake’s mongrelised, pitch-bent production style finds kinship with dubstep’s Joker and Untold, but his secret weapon is his voice: Blake sings with a sweet, honey-soaked coo that betrays his traditional background in music: one that knew the Family Stone long before it’d heard of FWD>>” – Tom Lea, Fact Magazine
Hessle Audio was formed in Leeds in early 2007 by David Kennedy, Ben Thomson and Kevin McAuley. The label has released tunes by TRG, Martyn, Pangaea, Ramadanman / Pearson Sound, Joe and Untold. In addition, Hessle Audio tunes have appeared on compilations by Tempa, Scape, Soul Jazz and Global Underground. Hessle Audio hold a residency at London club Fabric.

HJP48 Paint Straw And Bubbles – Actress Honest Jons Records 12″ Vinyl
Finish copies. A provocative encapsulation of Actress’ creative vision, setting the scene for the South Londoner’s imminent album Splazsh, and accompanied by one of Zomby’s toughest mixes so far. Paint is vintage Actress. Sticky and claustrophobic, but multifaceted and openhearted, it’s a bold, at times disconcerting excursion into the inner life of house and techno. Melodically, you might think of classical minimalism by way of the Caribbean, and while its neurotically funky drum patterns nod to the experimental fringe of Chicago house, the low‐end atmospherics betray the music’s UK origins. Zomby’s arresting remix invokes UK funky with a forthright, carnivalesque house rhythm, re‐stringing the delicate melodies of the original into his own inimitable, spidery, escalating computerfunk. Maze presents a different side to Actress, its pulsation and phasing summoning 1980s cold wave and early techno, or maybe John Carpenter, or Kraftwerk’s Autobahn rerouted through South London.

RAMP027 Disappearing Reappearing Ink – Desto Ramp Recordings 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. Meet Desto. We found him wandering the streets of Helsinki, eating canned tuna and drinking the water from a tin of hot dogs, desperately clutching armfuls of sticky future garage. Starting off in spacey 2step rhythms, falling over bassline, and breaking down into an euphoric 8 bit cascade, the epic “Disappearing Reappearing Ink” finally reaches wax after being in the boxes of pretty much everybody all year. On the flip, “Broken Memory” was given its first exclusive airing by Oneman on Radio 1 to much acclaim, and takes more of a straight up approach, and retains all of the fluid C64 chiptune beauty.

IME016 Dissociate LP – Kontext Immerse Records 12″ Vinyl x 3
Finish copy. Limited edition Vinyl pressing. St Petersburg resident Stanislav Sevostyanikhin aka Kontext has been broadcasting his unique sound via a series of releases on the Immerse label since 2008. Admirers of the first two releases spanned quite a wide range of artists, reflecting the diversity of the music, including James Holden, Alex Flitsch, Jamie Odell and Brendon Moeller among others. Blending key elements of dubstep and techno with classic glitch signifiers and IDM, his music is instantly recognizable and utterly distinctive. ‘Dissociate’ is Kontext’s debut LP and, unsurprisingly, makes for an Immersive listening experience – from the delicate shimmering of Rhodes-led intro track ‘Impossible Being’ to the analogue garage-tech of ‘Ocean In The Bathroom’, via the Y3K foundsound dub of ‘On The Bottom Of The Glass’ and industrial electronica of ‘Bilinguism’. This is an album that deserves and requires repeat listening, promising its audience greater rewards the deeper they dig.

SCREW002 Mind Over Matter / Cataract – Statix Screwloose Records 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. Introducing Statix. To put it simply, dubstep’s answer to Bad Company. Quite a title? With distinctive records such as ‘Mind Over Matter’ & ‘Purgatory’ shredding their way through the dubstep scene, it’s one that is definitely justified. Radio plays from the likes of Caspa, Rusko & Crissy Criss followed a ‘mini-mix’ request on the infamous Mary Anne Hobbs Radio 1 show. The spotlight was significantly placed on ‘Mind Over Matter’ which even featured on Mary Anne Hobbs’ U.S tour blog, beside the likes of Chase & Status, Joker & Plactician. ‘Mind Over Matter’ was then chosen to be released on one of the most exciting and contemporary record labels to emerge from 2009, ‘Screwloose Records’ where it would join highly desired up and coming releases from the likes of KOAN Sound & Asa. Perhaps the best thing about Statix is the fact that the talent doesn’t stop at the loading screen for Reason 4.0. Word of mouth alone established Statix high on the bills of several nights in their home town of Bristol. Why? A well coordinated approach to live performances coupled with superb DJ skills and jaw dropping MC talent. Even with the somewhat dark sound the group can unleash through a sound-system, the future is most definitely bright for Statix. And with a live band in the works, things are about to go from sick, to slick.

A. JAKES – SCANNERZ
With each new tune that Jakes produces, his progression and intent is evermore obvious. No fooling about with this one – a ringing loop draws you in and then hits you with a monster drop. Low-end rushing through the woofers with rhythmic swiftness, feet will be stomping the ground and writhing to this bass-led beat. The occasional bell chime and futuristic lasers shooting –here’s a tune capable of tearing down any rave, no matter what size.
AA. GIANT – DRUMSTICK VIP
Maintaining the squeaking synths and vocoder present in the original ‘Drumstick’, Giant have gone back in on this one and turned out an even funkier, wobbly b-line number than before. The atmospheric synth and ragga piano stab demonstrate a standard of production usually attributed to more experienced producers. Yet Giant have managed to create a tune that oozes serious studio skills and fresh innovative ideas at the same time. It’s not every day that a debutant’s release on a label gets offered to do a VIP, but Giant have come up trumps.

HENCH016 Dream On / Boom Boom Bass – Chasing Shadows / Jakes Hench 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. Rising stars dubstep stars, Chasing Shadows and label owner Jakes lend their tracks to round-off the stellar samplers HENCH Mixtape Vol. 1 has given us. Having already released a host of big-impact tunes on the Hench imprint in 2009, including ‘Amirah’ and ‘Ill’, Chasing Shadows up their game with ‘Dream on’. Jakes features with the unmistakable ‘Boom Boom Bass’ – a track that combines all the elements that has earnt Jakes’ the reputation he now has within the scene. These tracks both feature on the HENCH Mixtape Vol. 1 (soon to be released). The compilation is to be mixed by Jakes and will feature unreleased tracks from Papa ‘ench himself. The release will also contain new exclusive tracks from Komonazmuk, Chasing Shadows, Lost and Giant, as well as providing a platform for debut releases on the label from Minus, Tek-one and Mensah.
A. CHASING SHADOWS – DREAM ON
With a guitar riff building the intro, stabs of the bass set the tone of this tune at an early point. Pausing briefly for a vocal that gets turned menacing by the streaming synths placed overhead. A seriously heavy bassline follows, the kind that fills up any room with its presence. This duo is going from strength to strength – ‘Dream On’ displays their ability to fuse different styles into their music and execute the production with a skilled hand. At this early stage in their career, its clear that Chasing Shadows have a great future ahead.
AA. JAKES – BOOM BOOM BASS
There are only a handful producers in dubstep that have a style which is difficult, near on impossible, to imitate. Lucky for Hench, Jakes is one of those producers. Commencing with a vocal skit, little does the listener know that they’re being teed-up to have this driving bassline thrust upon them. Vocal stabs and a drum pattern that switches throughout the tune give this release a progressive sound. Changing things up later on, piano chords bounce and maintain the feeling of not knowing whats going to come next.
Whatever your style, whatever your flavour – we dare you to try not moving to this when it gets dropped.

RWINA006 Humanoid EP – Eprom Rwina Records 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. We want to do quality, interesting, electronic music here at Rwina. We’re not trying to bring you some stuff aimed solely at fitting into ‘the scene’ – no, we like beats, bass, synths, stuff that can mess with your head as well as move your feet. So, bearing that in mind, we’re proud to present Eprom, fresh out of San Francisco. ‘Humanoid’ takes stepping beats in a Mala-gone-ATL vibe, and marries them to lazer-guided pitch-switching neon synth lines that contract and expand, breathing their way through the track and re-programming the dance floor into a blur of hypercolour. The classic vocal sample reminds us how far we’ve come from the days of Acid House, yet how much remains the same – people still want to hear amazing noises put together in a way that makes them dance. ‘The Slaughter’ takes the mid-tempo West-Coast sound and runs with it – glowing synth lines harmonise like the work of acid-loving robots over swaggering beats and moody, almost RZA-esque atmospherics, building intensity throughout the track.
Finally, ‘Lick Out’ sounds like the kind of music Drexciya might have made if their underwater civilisation was based around the Bay Area’s hyphy scene. The whole track is dripping wet, an exploration into a future world of aquatic crunk that defies categorisation. Rwina is proud, but not surprised, to note that this release is being supported by the likes of Mary Anne Hobbs, Jakes, Starkey, The Gaslamp Killer and Slugabed.

RED002 Avoid The Noid / Duality – DJG Pushing Red 12″ Vinyl
Finish copies. Known in many circles of dubstep and similar styles as one of the hottest up & comers, DJG has graced us with one of, what we think is his best release to date. Both sides showing his diversity & versatility as a producer and musician. A San Francisco native, DJG has been releasing music on many acclaimed labels, building his reputation and forging ahead with his unique take on dubstep.
A. Avoid The Noid: From the start, the listener is propelled into the pure energy of this track. A steady 4/4 kick drum keeps the momentum along with scattered snares. A deep, bouncy bassline pull everything together in style along with twinkling keys and a nice short vocal. Dubsteppers who like their music with a techno tinge will love this along some tech house listeners. A great piece of energetic music!
AA. Duality: One of our favorite tunes we’ve heard in a long time and are very proud to be releasing this. A minimal intro leads into a punchy snare that slaps you across the face while the drum fill in between keep things interesting. A huge sub bassline will keep any sound system on it’s toes. This tune is all about patience and the build up to a vocal that sits so well, it’s hard to imagine a tune around like it atm. A piece of music you just have to hear to believe!

New House / Techno 12″ Vinyl

SCB001 20_4 – SCB SCB 12″ Vinyl
Very limited finished copy. After a seminal remix of Scuba’s Hard Boiled on Hotflush in 2008, and the most popular mix of 2009 on mnml ssgs, this is the first proper release from Hotflush Recordings boss Paul Rose’s SCB project.
What the DJ’s are saying:
James Holden (Border Community) – “Classy, both sides of it”.
Laurent Garnier (F Communications) – “Super organic deeep techno. Love”
Chris Burkhalter (Resident Advisor) – “20_4 makes for a smooth segue into the 4/4 stylings Paul Rose has been embracing. Then “3_5″ dives head-first into melodic deep techno. But, for all that’s changed, the spare structures and arid sound design are
unmistakably Scuba. Love it!”
Thomas Schumacher (Get Physical) – “Beautiful, deep atmospheric music”
a SCB – 20_4
b SCB – 3_5
