New D&B CD

FOKUZCD007 – Donnie Dubson – Monday Is The New Sunday – CD
In the impressive flow of new talent in 2011 on Fokuz recordings we already had the pleasure to present the sound of Brother, Command Strange and Intelligent Manners among others. The next flavour of the funky liquid melting pot called Fokuz Recordings goes by the name Donnie Dubson. Berlin based Irishman Donnie O’Sullivan aka Donnie Dubson started releasing his funky rollers on Have a Break and Influenza Media and already featured on Fokuz on the Chronicles of the Deep LP together with Stunna back in 2007. The Grapefruit / Battlecat release on Influenza Media in 2009 got him a lot of attention and is still heard in dj sets today. Now it’s 2011 and Fokuz presents the beautiful debut album of Donnie Dubson! His sound can be described as refreshing and original Liquid drum’n bass with a touch of the well known atmospheric drum’n bass vibes from the mid 0′s. His basslines are the unique sellingpoint as well as his ability to create an organic feel in the music that’s only done by the few who truly understand what liquid drum’n bass is all about. Pleasuring both critical listeners and the dancefloor audience this album is a perfect overview of the sound FOKUZ stands for. A great example of how music can be ‘time-less’ in this decade of fast moving consumer goods.

New D&B Releases

CRIT055 – Code 3 – What You Sayin? – 12″ Vinyl
Fresh for the summertime shine is yet more goodness from camp Critical with a diamond dubplate burner straight out of the Code 3 studio. The production trio made up of SP:MC, Jubei and Dakuan show their pedigree for CRIT055 with two slabs of almost retro D&B that could only have come been from scene stalwarts like these. Quality through and through. ‘What You Sayin’ runs out with simple two-tone chords and a staggered break to ease us into this creeping cut of subtle but definitely dangerous drum & bass. Snapping snares roll out, sub thuds from beneath as the gnawing b-line wrestles its way to throughout rearing its head then ducking beneath the surface only for the smooth keys to return to the mix. A classy piece of contrasting moods that’ll sit perfectly on the Critical collector’s shelf. Over the page ‘Double Dipped’ intros with another big break and spooky, quizzical pads and a winding double-bass that weaves its way in gently to the drop. Perhaps reminding of the Full Cycle and Talkin’ Loud golden era this one is a hard-stepping, funked up track that’ll have the floors calling for the reload. Awesome! DJ support from Hype, Friction, Jubei, Fabio, Marky, Kasra, S.P.Y. and many more.

EXIT029 – ASC – Stutter – 12″ Vinyl
After releases on Exit affiliated labels Nonplus and Autonomic, ASC releases his debut 12” on Exit with two tracks that as usual, experiment with the 170bpm tempo and bring fresh and intriguing results. Stutter is one of those tracks that comes around every once in a while and really stands out in terms of originality. Starting with a marching hip hop style drum break the intro progresses through a range of outstandingly programmed percussion elements that “stutter” around the main drums giving a jerky and rough backdrop for futuristic synth fx and lead patterns. String arrangements seem to loom in from nowhere like storm clouds and darken the atmosphere but the track stays relentless in its progression which really is quite difficult to explain as its just so intricate and ever changing. This one really does require multiple listens to infuse. Leviathan takes on the same kind of half time approach but is much less aggressive than its angry acquaintance. Here we have a warping sub bass that dominates proceedings practically from the off and is laced with industrial sounding effects and trademark ASC percussion, and again, progresses through sections of melody, atmosphere and pure madness in terms of arrangement.

NZ014X – Heavy 1 / Nymfo & Menace – Millers / Drunk Funk (Red Vinyl) – 12″ Vinyl
Black Vinyl. The Samurai Music Foreign Exchange Series returns for 2011 with one of the labels strongest releases to date. Heavy 1 from Tokyo represents Japan and is our first ever signing from the Samurais homeland. ‘Millers’ may be recognisable to many of you from its’s appearance on DJ Marky’s recent Fabric Live mix. This tunes distinctly quirky funk has been winning crowds over since it was first drawn and we are extremely proud to have it released on the Samurai label. Samurai fave Nymfo represents the Netherlands in a head to head drinking contest with Christchurch, New Zealands Menace. We are not sure who won the alcoholic battle but the colossal bassline that was created in the session delivers a funky bounce that is very infectious. DJ support from everyone that has been sent these tunes, look out for Foreign Exchange Part 4 featuring representatives from Russia and the UK.

Strictly for the dancefloors! AA. THE DIVER’S DREAM – One of our favorites from System for awhile now! This tune encapsulates the saying “as deep as it gets”. AUDHOS001 – Dual Process – Drugs / Thugs – 12″ Vinyl
The production duo of Dual Process, AKA DJ Java and DJ Ben J, have been in the drum & bass scene since before it was being called “The drum & bass scene”. Initially as ravers, then DJs, and now as producers, they have been witness to the progression of the various sub genres that are now present in today’s spectrum of drum & bass music. After releases individually and collectively on several different labels Dual Process are ready to launch their own label aimed at the particular sub genre that they have successfully played in raves, clubs and on radio for the last few years. Straight up, dance floor, jump up is what’s going to be on offer from Audio Hostage Records, and to kick things off we have two heavy slices of face churning, bass ridden, ignorance capable of setting MC’s to self destruct and levelling any sound system. The A. side DRUGS is inspired by the Essex gangster scene that emerged around the early days of rave music. The eerie bleeped out intro soon leads on to brain twisting pulsation of gurgling, stuttering basslines and, for just a few bars, some dubstep breaks to make sure the substance takes hold. Remember, too much of a good thing can be dangerous. The AA. side THUGS is a little more funky but still with a hard edge. Drawing on influences from gangster rap, the bouncy bassline and bongos are backed up with police sirens, gunshots and sporadic hip hop lyrics. Something for the thugs to bounce to but still heavy enough to test any system. Both tracks ore getting heavy support from a range of DJs and radio stations such as, Hype, Crissy Criss, Taxman, Nicky Black Market, Brockie, SS, Jack Frost, Ash Attack, Hoodlum, Logan D, Profile, Pappa G, Vital Elements, Spice, Origin FM and Kool FM.

SUICIDE057 – Nymfo – Double Dutch E.P. – 12″ Vinyl x 2
Hailing from Amsterdam, Nymfo, aka Bardo Camp has been a lynchpin in the dutch drum and bass scene for over a decade including best dutch d&b DJ in 2005. Previously having worked closely alongside Icicle, including their classic Ram release “Franky Mountain”, Bardo has released many solo and collaborative tunes on labels far and wide including, Dispatch, Critical, Ram, C.I.A. 31, Inneractive and Samurai. Through the years Nymfo has developed his own specific sound of characteristic hard driving bass, spanking funky drums and hooky motifs. It is an addictive and hypnotic sound suitable for just about any set , car drive or home listen. Think Icicle, Spectrasoul, Ulterior Motive, Jubei, Ed Rush & Optical but with more than enough of his own style to make Nymfo a standout in todays swamp of mediocre d&b.

East meets West as Revolution returns for our 22nd release. In the red corner straight out of Russia we’re pleased to welcome Enei and Eastcolors to the Revolution army. These artists now need little introduction after massive singles on Hospital and Critical. ‘Home’ is one of those rare tracks that manages to combine the sublime with the grime. Another artist Revolution are very pleased to have on board their roster. His trademark razor sharp production skills are in full effect on ‘Hybrid’. NU12049 – Subterra – Gutter Mouth – 12″ Vinyl
As we build up a head of stream moving into the summer months, we turn our attentions firmly to the dance-floor with two bass-heavy hitters from Subterra. Those of you familiar with the Guildford residing DJ / Producer / promoter will already be well aware of his drum & bass pedigree. Clocking up releases on Ram’s subsidary label Frequency as well as Dispatch and Sudden Def Subterra has a staunch following that regularly attend his Rotation events across the south east of England. ‘Gutter Mouth’ is as dirty as the title suggests. Swirling pads and percussion build the suspense before an explosion of contorted bass sounds and snappy high end beats. ‘Cold Shoulder’ is a collaboration with long term DJ / production partner Bazil. With it’s warm atmospheric opening it creates a sinister mood before tearing into a stepping bass-heavy workout. DJ Support from Goldie, Jubei, Lenzman, SpectraSoul, London Elektricity & DLR & Octane.

SAIGON005 – Milyoo – Kazaduon EP – 12″ Vinyl
Finish Copy Limited Edition vinyl pressing – With support from the likes of Laurent Garnier, Angel Molina, Karl Moestl, Bunzer0, Rob Booth, The Black Dog, James Mountain and more…. “Kentucky seems an unlikely place for bass music producers to be based, but with modern technology being what it is, geographical boundaries in music continue their slide into relative obsolescence. Having had his debut release featured in Boomkat’s top 100 singles of 2010, Milyoo has already been endorsed by Gilles Peterson and Mary Ann Hobbes, and judging by the quality of his latest work, the Kazaduon EP on Saigon, such hype is certainly justified. The title track is a melancholic yet strangely hopeful array of pop vocal samples, tearjerking keys and punchy drums. It’s slightly cheesy but enchantingly peculiar and one can’t help but be moved by the sheer amount of emotive musicality present. This musicality is led by the hand into more obscure territories in ‘Takedown’, with its broken beats, chordal pads, and simple melodies creating an ethereal soundscape punctuated by clever yet soulful drumwork. In the great tradition of keeping the truly weird stuff for the flip, the first b-side, ‘Box of Tapes’ unleashes an aural assault of acid infused dissociative chaos, which hangs on for dear life to a solid rhythm and chord motif. It’s delightfully disorganised and will have many listeners subconsciously calling for the outlawing of strict quantization to ensure music of this style is made more often. Closing track ‘Phonix’ is a little more restrained in its entropic aesthetic, but still keeps the beats wonky enough to be able to squeeze in some more ‘normal’ chord progressions without approaching over-sentimentality. Whether the track stands up on its own is perhaps up for debate, but it is a fitting end to a bizzarely brilliant release”. Words courtesy of: http://www.ibiza-voice.com/story/news/3133

MEDI043 – Pinch – Swish – 12″ Vinyl
Rob Ellis, AKA Pinch is the owner of one of the original and highly influential Dubstep labels Tectonic who have signed, developed and released music from some of the scene’s biggest acts such as Joker, 2562, Cyrus, Digital Mystikz, Skream, Jack Sparrow and of course Pinch. Pinch is also founder of Subloaded, Bristol’s finest Bass rave, who has recently celebrated their 6th Birthday. This is Pinch’s first release on Mala’s DEEP MEDi imprint and we feel it’s his best work to date, we’ll sure you’ll agree. ‘Swish’ has been played relentlessly by Mala over the last year as well as a select lucky few able to get their hands on it such as Skream, Loefah, Youngsta and V.I.V.E.K. ‘Swish’ is classic Pinch, dark, moody and sparse, heavily influenced by Techno, with a sub- bass and kick to destroy any bass bin, pure soundsystem music. ‘Tunnel Home’ on the flip sees Pinch in experimental mode switching up the tempo, 155. This still has the Pinch trademark darkness and efx’s but oozes a stealthily undercurrent and coldness with its complex drum programming and industrial approach, reminiscent of early Photek output.

KGO004 – Beaumont – Blush Response EP – 12″ Vinyl
Beaumont, alias Michael Rintoul, is a young Scottish producer and creator of hypnotic R&B dream pop-soundtracks for late night bliss-outs. Described by inimitable Brighton- based blog 20jazzfunkgreats as having produced, “by a strike of genius and inspiration”, the authentic soundtrack to “a really cool Z-series 80s thriller”, Kinnego is proud to present his debut release, “Blush Response”. Opening track “Tokyo” sets the scene, a wistful night-time groove with almost dubstep intentions and layers of subtly building melody. “Foreign Intrigue” combines chillwave textures with heavy sub-bass and halftime drums into a sweetly composed piece of synth pop, full of Europhile yearning. “Aventurescence” is a talkbox-driven slowgroove that ends in waves of melodic synth bliss. “Lucky” returns to the atmospheric cityscape conjured by “Tokyo”, sounding like dubstep as made on a Fairlight in 1982, full of emotion and breathless invocations. The most overtly vocal track, “Midnight” seems to reference 80s Marvin Gaye with its drum machine and electronic piano palette and lovelorn emotional delivery. Recalling a more minimal Eurythmics, “Flesh + Blood” blends guitars and synthesized cellos into a desirous, heartbroken pop song for hopeless romantics. And closing the EP, title track “Blush Response” begins in layers of continental VHS hiss and jaunty melody before settling into a headnodding groove adorned with lush vocals and retriggered samples. A unique and immensely addictive debut from a very bright new talent.

GRIZZLY009 – Jay Weed – On The Nile – 12″ Vinyl
Sinden’s Grizzly label is back on Vinyl! Few do it quite like Jay Weed. Here’s what label boss Sinden has to say about it: I first caught wind of Jay’s stuff a year ago through Douster (who weighs in with a really cool egyptian banger on this EP). Impressed, we locked in the release. Leading track, On The Nile, operates on a grey area bass music tip that its really stripped back, funky and evocative. I love the Egyptian synth melodies in the breakdown reminding me of old Amstrad computer game, Oh Mummy or Egyptian lover meets the Cyber Pharoahs as Douster once said. I’ve had so many people ask me about this when I’ve played it out. The track really is a one of a kind, a real original – perfect Grizzly material. City Staccs is a great fit as the second track and much like On The Nile really hard to place. It’s just as rhythmical, but more stoned (weeded?), subtle with plenty of low end. I love both of these. Jay’s definitely a producer with his own sound!

Best known as two members of the Sub Swara crew, who released their album “Triggers” to critical acclaim earlier this year, this release finds them exploring more mysterious territory. Sharmaji goes in alone on the A-side with a unique take on the current “percussion and bass” sound with a distinctly darker and warmer edge. A favourite of the likes of Ben UFO, this one does some serious dancefloor damage. The B side goes darker still, with an almost Shackleton-like take on tribal minimalism, disclosing Sharmaji’s day job as a professional Tabla session musician.

CIV021 – Starkey – Space Traitor Volume 2 (4 track vinyl with a 13 track CD inc) – 12″ Vinyl
Philly producer Starkey forges ahead in the sonic space race with his new, sci-fi inspired EP. Space Traitor Vol 2 is the sequel to 2010’s Vol 1 and looks certain to further cement Starkey as one of the most forward-thinking artists in post-dubstep, bass-driven music. Space Traitor Vol 2 is comprised of six new tracks of angular, robo-funk futurism. The EP opens with intergalactic love song Lost In Space on which Starkey marries his own distorted, lovelorn vocals with those of 17 year old UK singer Charli XCX for a starry eyed duet. Cockroach – a rollercoaster ride of huge drums and hymn-like vocals – precedes the EPs two grittiest, hardest hitting offerings: the blazing Sunlight – an industrial strength blend of rave-tinged percussion, speaker-troubling basslines and surging synths – and the dizzying, hypnotic Street Rockers. Bricks sees Starkey teaming up with rapper and fellow Philadelphian Curly Castro ahead of the soundtrack-like, ambient finale, Craters. The EP’s comes with the second chapter of Space Traitor, a short spoken-word story written by Starkey, and six remixes by Innerpartysystem, Om Unit, Darling Farah, Distal, Monky and The Elementz. Born Paul J. Geissinger, and known to friends as PJ, Starkey’s ongoing mission to chart the outer reaches of the sonic universe has so far included; studio sessions with Tinie Tempah, producing Maverick Sabre’s Run To The Roof, helming the Daily Dose Of Dubstep slot on MistaJam’s 1xtra show for two months, and his acclaimed albums Ephemeral Exhibits and Ear Drums And Black Holes. Whilst the most obvious bracket for his output is the burgeoning British post-dubstep/bass music scene, Starkey lives just outside of Philadelphia. This geographical anomaly coupled with the emotion and depth of his painstakingly constructed arrangements helps explain his unique, always-fresh output.

SR009 – Crissy Criss – Line Of Fire – 12″ Vinyl
Former enfant terrible of the bass music world, Kiss FM’s Crissy Criss landed a radio show on London’s Kool FM at the age of just 11 in 1998, and is now firmly established himself as one of drum and bass and dubstep’s biggest heroes while still in his early 20s. His new badboy brace for Sludge sees him take it to the next level with a double-header of monster low-end, powerful hooks and cool dubwise atmospherics. Line of Sight drops ravey synths and ragga vocal snatches over jaw-dropping, gut-churning bass, while Murder Tune recalls early Prodigy with its heavy attitude, lush pads and phenomenal dancefloor power. These two tracks have already been blowing up the scene on dubplate, and now they’re ready to set fire to the nearest party. Just press play and watch the crowd reach for the lazers.

New D&B Releases

RECIPE017 – Dub Phizix – Out There / Athos – 12″ Vinyl
Dub Phizix is a fresh name for 2011. His unique style has won over many people including Soul:r & Creative Source with whom he has 12”s coming soon. His punchy production and clever arrangement impressed us at Ingredients and these two tracks have been on heavy rotation for the last 6 months. “Out There” is reminiscent of Photek’s drums and sounds, a great intro track. While “Athos” is a brave tune, some future thinking drum & bass with it’s tribal rhythms. New D&B Promos

REDSEAL008 – Tokyo Prose – Introducing Tokyo Prose (Phase 1) – 12″ Vinyl
Limited Edition coloured vinyl: Mixed Orange & White Vinyl One of the most anticipated releases for some time, we are proud to bring you the debut recordings from young Auckland, New Zealand duo Tokyo Prose. Discovered very early in their careers by DJ Presha, the two Sam’s were signed to Samurai Red Seal as core artists in a long term development deal. It has taken a few years to get to the point where we have this debut release fully polished and ready, but as you will hear the wait has been worth it. These 2 producers have quickly formed a very distinctive style that has been drawing fans in their droves. As well as many general fans of Drum and Bass music, their eager fanbase boasts name DJ’s and established producers before they have ever had a fully available product to purchase. ‘Introducing Tokyo Prose’ brings stylish swagger and musical substance to a scene overflowing with identical bare boned rollers. Gliding between minimal ambience and deep soulful steppers, these gifted young men aptly display their knack for sample selection and unique groove building.

New Bass Music CD

HESCD001 – Various – Hessle Audio : 116 & Rising – CD x 2
The compilation exists as a way to unite the entire Hessle roster, as well as allowing them an avenue to put out work by friends and producers they have been unable to work with so far. The first disc is all new work plus a second has a selection of choice cuts from the back catalogue. There’s also work from producers who they feel have shaped the label’s aesthetic, like D1’s ‘Sub Zero’, whose sub bass stabs were a staple of the early DMZ sets that they initially united over back in 2005. One of their close affiliates, Addison Groove is also featured, his anthem ‘Footcrab’ having done so much to bring the tough tempo of juke to the world’s dancefloors. The subtle pitch-shifting of a looping hip hop vocal and the polyrhythmic patter of rim shots and cymbals on ‘Fuk Tha 101’ are unmistakably his. Another producer previously unreleased on Hessle is synth-mad Randomer whose ‘Brunk’ features an industrial strength kick and finishes up with ghostly pads invoking musique concrete. The disc is rounded off by Bristol’s Peverelist, whose own dub-soaked productions, as well as those released on his label Punch Drunk, owe so much to that city’s rich musical traditions. On ‘Sun Dance’ synth chords bring to mind the dystopian drum n bass of DJ Krust. There’s a single claustrophobic Hammond note held through to the close alongside the echoing sounds of water dripping in a cave. Disc one kicks off with the spritely chimes and shuffling beat of Elgato’s ‘Music’. Untold bring’s detuned chords, jangling glass and a cheeky synth line, breaking down into mutant funky house. Blawan’s ‘Potchla Vee’ reveals some unexpected instrumentation: the skittering of what sounds like the cogs of a clock gives little breathing room to the assault of tribal drums and processed grunts. The Pearson Sound track ‘Stifle’ seems to slow things down, with an adenoidal vocal snippet acting as counterfoil to the percussive snap of the drums, delicate EQing and synth washes providing characteristic texture. Once again on ‘Twice’, Joe demonstrates the effectiveness of unexpected drum sampling, with a disconnected beat cooked up out of error bleeps and the tap of a typewriter. Pangaea’s own contribution is a rave homage; oscillating between synth stabs and a filtered ragga MC sample, the track is layered with a bouncy acid bassline, creating a phantom jump up effect. Romania’s TRG was Hessle’s first release and here builds on his mutant garage template. James Blake, re-edits an earlier Hessle release, bringing the processed vocals to the fore much in the style of his recent album.

IME026 – Kontext – Kontext (Double CD un-mixed) – CD x 2
The smoky tendrils of Stan Sevo’s music have come to shape much of what Immerse Records is about, from his first release for us back in 2008 through to his latest EP, the devastating ‘No More Room In Hell’ double pack. Stans tracks come from a world structured by micro-rhythms, where the architecture swings and funks with grace and poise, whilst the native organisms are nebulous wraiths of pads that flirt and tease the rumbling subbass that roams on the ground. The analogies may seem a little far-fetched, but the Kontext sound inspires such evocative images upon listening. Having disseminated under the radar to widespread critical acclaim, we felt it only right to bring together the strongest elements in the Kontext canon along with a few choice exclusives, to serve as a document for those unfamiliar with Russia’s best kept secret.

WHEELYDEALY014 – DJ Madd – Battle / Secrets – 12″ Vinyl
N Types label coms correct each and every time. Budapest born but now Bristol based producer DJ Madd has carved himself a pretty unique trench within his contemporaries over the space of a handful of singles – mainly released on the Boka and Black Box imprints. Going in just as hard as producers like Benga and Caspa, Madd – known to his parents as Peter Simon – manages to retain a lot of space and atmosphere in his productions, fleshing his tracks out with heavy sine wave pulses rather than those mid range frequencies that seem to get included expressly to make you lose your shit on the dancefloor. Flirting with the funk in a similar way to someone like Joker, Madd has a great command of aerated bass lines, tweaking the best force out of his low end and complimenting that speaker pressure with vibrancy and these little flickers of synth colour that lodge themselves deep in your brain for days In his own words when speaking to the Sonic Router blog last year: “appreciating both Rusko and Martyn at the same time is not a crime,”

NONPLUS011 – Lowtec – Wonderkidd / Looser – 12″ Vinyl
The ball is certainly rolling in 2011 and next up is a treat from Germanys Lowtec. Founder of highly respected label Workshop he makes his UK label debut on Nonplus Records with two fresh cuts of analogue goodness. a) Lowtec ‘Wonderkidd’ ‘Wonderkidd’ greets us with a vocal sample that morphs keys with a low-fi piano chord before the discordant groove of the main riff comes into effect. Analogue synths dance around the deep chord groove with early detroitisms flexing between a repeating bleeped out pattern. Hypnotic key stabs sink you deeper into the tune that shows us why Lowtec is one of Berlin’s top underground button pushers. aa) Lowtec ‘Looser’ The warm hiss of anaolgue beats starts off the excellent AA tune ‘Looser’. Dabs of a.m radio vocals progress the tune amongst a myriad of discreet electronic bleeps that escalate and scatter around the rhythm. Coarsely sampled ‘Shakir-like’ string chords provide the main sequence to set off this excellent tune. One for the deeper heads out there.

NONPLUS012 – Boddika – You Tell Me / Breezin – 12″ Vinyl
Nonplus+ label owners Instra:mental have been working away on solo projects in 2011 with Al Bleek working under his Boddika alias and Kid Drama as Jon Convex. Here we have Boddika’s first output on Nonplus+ after his debut on Naked Lunch in 2010 and prior to his forthcoming EP on Swamp 81. His work has been supported by DJs across the board such as Benji B, Oneman, Scuba, Shy FX, Martyn, Ramadanman, Joy Orbison, Leofah, Skream and Zed Bias amongst many others. a) Boddika ‘You Tell Me’ ‘You Tell Me’ takes us back to the 80s with its electro tinged thumping drums and freaky synths. What at first seems to be a pretty straightforward track slowly mutates into an ugly beast with its pitch bent lead and warping drum grooves that slowly swing so far out and eventually re-sync with each significant transition. Not for the seasick. aa) Boddika ‘Breezin’ On the flip Boddika provides another striped back dancefloor warmer but here he comes with a 4×4 drum pattern. With very few elements he exploits them all to their limits and the track moves with an everchanging undercurrent of acid bass coated with subtle synth melodies that work their way around the bass in a mesmerizing arrangement. Another example of Boddika’s talent for working sound to maximum effect and keeping it simple but effective.

DP052 – Emalkay – Fabrication / Massive – 12″ Vinyl
Emalkay continues his unstoppable run of form with the new single ‘Fabrication’, a track that is as addictive as it is hard-hitting. Drifting in on the soft siren call of the vocals, Emalkay filters the bass through the intro, building to the drop of the catchy, mutating bassline. The organic skitter of hi-hats gives the sparse drum pattern its swing, leaving the bass to do the damage! On the flip ‘Massive’ cranks up the pressure with a serious head down steppa. The razor sharp bassline cuts through the track like a knife, held down only by the stomp of the drums, while the ebb and flow of the pads gives an underlying eerie atmosphere to the track. 2010 was a huge year for Emalkay. Having been thrown in to the limelight by the phenomenal ‘When I Look At You’ towards the end of 2009, he has continued to penetrate through the scene with a series of quality releases like ‘Crusader / Power Tool’ and ‘Solid State / Battle Suit’. With no sign of slowing down any time soon, he continues to cement his place as one of the most exciting producers around with each new track. Stepping into 2011 with the support of the biggest DJs on the scene, some seriously heavyweight artillery and an album due out later this year on Dub Police, there really is no stopping Emalkay at the moment!

CIV020 – dÉbruit – Sis Sürpriz EP (inc 3-D artwork and 3-D glasses) – 12″ Vinyl
When French producer dÉbruit relocated to London, it was just the start of a journey that would take him much further east than Hackney. dEbruit explains; “I lived in a Turkish neighbourhood in London and my productions are always a result of curiosity over the sounds and people around me. I wanted to learn more and try something with Turkish music and instruments so I travelled to Turkey in October, and I’m so glad I did.” The end results of dÉbruit’s travels are the four painstakingly crafted tracks of Şiş Sürpriz (which translates as Skewer Surprise). Traditional Turkish folk instruments are coupled with modern, synthetic sounds on an EP that’s full of eastern promise. Opener Accordé Don combines accordion and darbuka drums (a kind of goblet drum) with “bump-hop” beats, whilst Turkish Ish features zurna flutes, talkbox effects and scything synths. Mezdé’s bassheavy, low-slung bounce deploys the string sounds of the kabak kemane – a violin-like instrument originating from Southeastern Turkey – with darbuka and davul drums. Zurna flutes and synths return on the slo-mo, chopped and screwed digi-funk of Lil Zurna. Born Xavier Thomas and raised in Brittany, France, dÉbruit’s name is an amalgamation of the French words debris (broken glass) and bruit (noise). His boundary-smashing, genreswerving style deliberately veers towards the chaotic – “I like when electronic music and instruments lose control of what they’re meant to do”, he adds. Şiş Sürpriz is the third in dÉbruit’s trilogy of EPs which began with futuristic electro hip-hop workout Let’s Post Funk featuring Jamie Woon and Om’Mas Keith, and was followed by 2010’s African highlife inspired Spatio Temporel. The trio of releases all feature 3-D artwork by German designer Rainbowmonkey, and 3-D glasses are also included for your viewing pleasure. dÉbruit is currently crafting a debut album based around trips to West Africa and recordings with the region’s indigenous musicians and traditional instruments. dÉbruit has also been honing his live show which now incorporates a three-piece band, thumb pianos, African drums, highlife guitar, talk box and more, all accompanied by live visuals from Rainbowmonkey. The new and improved live experience will be unveiled at the dates below and dÉbruit’s album is due out later this year.

SUBWAY017-1 – Seven – Cerebral EP – 12″ Vinyl
From the creative brain who brought you ‘Siren’, ‘Crazy Talk’, ‘Wait’ & ‘Saturn’ comes a very special EP with the name quality written all over it. We’re talking about Edward Berry aka ‘Seven’ this brilliant producer & dj knows how to work a dancefloor from all angles.. His Cerebral EP shows how diverse seven goes sound wise, from dark looming percussive beats to up-tempo jungle bashment and back again. This EP has it all. Part 1 contains the epic title track ‘Cerebral’.. this one has been a regular in sets from Youngsta from day dot.. The second you hear it you know who.. Eerie.. Dark.. And loads of subs.. This track will remind you a lot of Ed Rush & Optical in their Wormhole faze just taken back to the 140 bpm range. Side B features ‘Memory Loss’ a bulldozer like roller that packs a punch like Mike Tyson. A tune that embodies Seven’s sound like no other.. No joking around and just straight pressure business.. Once this one kicks in you know it’s time to get serious. Hold tight for part 2 of Seven’s Cerebral EP which will feature Seven teaming up with some of his trusty friends.

ZEN12288 – Mr Scruff – Wobble Control – 12″ Vinyl
The one, the only, the remarkably holey Mr. Scruff returns to battle with the moreish snafu of “Wobble Control”. A synth-heavy, low slung 4/4 number featuring a wiggling centipede of a keys line which will get under your nose in erotic ways you’ve never dreamt of, plus a goodly dollop of unruly bass, the whole thing scruffed up in the man-potato’s trademark warm ‘n’ dusty productio-stylo. The sound of electronic instruments getting together while their parents are out and having a good time. (We hope that sick will come out of the carpet).Next up, Nickodemus & Zeb from Brooklyn’s legendary Turntables On The Hudson crew tackle “Music Takes Me up”, adding a ton of bump & a ladle of synth to Alice Russell’s raw vocals and ending up with the kind of bumpy-synth soup audio-gourmands march miles for.

New Bass Music Promos

HESLP001 – Various – Hessle Audio : 116 & Rising (3 X 12” Vinyl & 2 X CD Format) – 12″ Vinyl x 3
This format is 3X12” Vinyl & 2 X CD packaged together in a gatefold sleeve shrink wrapped. The disc is rounded off by Bristol’s Peverelist, whose own dub-soaked productions, as well as those released on his label Punch Drunk, owe so much to that city’srich musical traditions. On ‘Sun Dance’ synth chords bring to mind the dystopian drum n bass of DJ Krust, the track driven forwarded by paper-like hi-hats and cymbals. There’s a single claustrophobic Hammond note held through to the close alongside the echoing sounds of water dripping in a cave. Disc one kicks off with the spritely chimes and shuffling beat of Elgato’s ‘Music’, whose muted vocal chant was used to such beautiful effect in Kennedy’s recent FABRICLIVE mix. Romania’s TRG was Hessle’s first release and here builds on his mutant garage template, with a reverb-soaked drum kit jostling against some analogue pads and a seagull-sounding distorted warble. James Blake, re-edits an earlier Hessle release, bringing the processed vocals to the fore much in the style of his recent album. It’s soul music that’s undecidedly electronic, the vocals screwed and chopped into the background, a virtuoso display of arrangement ordering a lacklustre pair of cowbells, a chorus of shuffles, croaks and pads into an infectious slow burner.

HENCH025V – Jakes – Hench Mixtape Vol2. Sampler 2 – 12″ Vinyl
t’s been an interesting few years for the one called Jakes. From being one of the highest-regarded MC’s in the drum and bass world, he took his hand to producing. After creating some of Bristol’s earliest and most seminal Dubstep tracks, such as ‘Modem’ and ’3Kout’, his studio skills and style became further embossed. In early 2010 his tracks, ‘Rhythm’ and ‘Skanners’ spearheaded the productive assault that was the HENCH Mixtape Vol. 1. For the next installment of the HENCH mixture, Jakes steps up with a double dose of his signature production style. Fasten all loose furniture to the floor and turn up the sub… A. THE DALEK – A familiar sound bite used in a less ordinary surroundings. Papa ‘Ench lures you in, then steps it up with chopping, high-tempo bass rhythm. Wait for the lead-synth to come in, creating an evil backdrop to the hollow steps ‘The Dalek’ lays down. This is the perfect tune to drop on an unexacting crowd – when that sinister baseline drops, they’ll be baying for the rewind again and again. AA. GOLD CHAIN – After a distinctive cameo on HENCH Mixtape Vol. 1, Gold Chain’s reputation precedes its release. Having also just been remixed by D*Style bosses, D*Minds, this production has been responsible for rumbling subs at dances across the country. In suitably Jakes fashion, Gold Chain enters with a hip-hop step to it. Layered vocal and lurching kick-snare leads to a driving and pulsing bassline. The outcome is a typically moody and distinctive roller from the HENCH. These tracks both feature on the HENCH Mixtape Vol. 2 (soon to be released). The Mixtape features unreleased tracks from the likes of Jakes, D*Minds, Mensah, Eddie K & Minus, Lost, Komonazmuk, Chasing Shadows and many more. Also including a full mix by Jakes,

Exit presents “Mosaic – Volume 1″

Exit presents “Mosaic – Volume 1″

Posted 28 September 2010 | By | Categories: news, video | 1 Comment

With so much good music arriving in the Exit inbox it was decided that a various artist project was needed to ensure that it all sees the light of day and doesn’t get caught up in a never ending schedule of singles.

As normal with Exit Records, there’s no prejudice in the track selection. Well known producers such as Skream, Instra:mental, Scuba and Commix rub shoulders with some inspiring new talents such as Indigo, Synkro, Mode and Code 3. The theme of the album is quality timeless music, whether it be a dance floor killer such as Systems ‘Observation Point’ or Loxy and Resounds ‘Vertigo’ through to the tangerine dreamlike sounds of Croms  ‘Invisible Cities’ or Stray’s ‘pushed’, this album truly represents the more experimental side of Drum and Bass as opposed to the crash bang wollop which seems to be the only side of Drum and Bass portrayed by the mainstream media today.

Hopefully this album will manage to reach the people that thought this forward thinking music was left behind in the nineties and let them know that it’s still alive and well and still capable of throwing up some surprising and unpredictable results.

Limited information, tracklists etc to come soon, but the formats and schedule will be as follows:

  • Two seperate 2-track 12″/10″ Samplers [EXIT025/026]
  • 4×12″ Gatefold LP version [EXITLP005]
  • 2xCD version [EXITCD005]

New D ‘n’ B Releases

LFTD008 Entrapment – Apex Lifted Music 12″ Vinyl
After doing the rounds amongst DJ’s for a while now, Lifted Music presents Entrapment 12″. Two massive productions from top class engineer Apex, as he makes his highly anticipated return to the Lifted Music release schedule. Apex’ debut solo 12″ on Lifted Music is fronted by the now infamous ‘Entrapment’. After doing the rounds with the scenes biggest, the release date is finally set for the public to get their hands on it, and they will not be disappointed. A groovy live bass guitar accompanies a downright quirky melody, all blended beautifully through that trademark Apex engineering. A hot-stepping kick snare combo laced with intricate end-bar fills pay homage to a producer whose quality control has won awards, and testifies as to why he is one of the in demand artists at the moment. If ‘Entrapment’ is anything to go by, 2010 could once again be another big year for Apex. B Side: ‘Gonzo’ The most recent creation from Apex showcases his development as both an artist and an engineer. Receiving extensive support worldwide, ‘Gonzo’ is that track that you have heard in every club, from all the top DJ’s. Vocoders at the ready, as Apex expands his style yet again, all whilst keeping to the traditional Lifted Music standards of progression. A wonderfully simplistic, yet ever so catchy riff twines effortlessly with a Wall of Sound sub, all in keeping with that subte, yet large, large drum track that has become his trademark over the years. Evolving, progressive and unlike anything else you have heard, ‘Gonzo’ is Apex to a tee.

BRIG014 For Love Or Money – D Kay & Concept Brigand Music 12″ Vinyl
Here comes the next 12″ from Vienna’s finest. Mastermind DKAY teams up with the the now firmly established CONCEPT, who, after having proved his production skills on various releases, adds the funk to the BRIGAND flavour. Epic 70s horns and house vocals set the tone for this high roller, called FOR LOVE OR MONEY. Favoured by Fabio, High Contrast and the likes, it does not only get the party started, but is also a pleasurable listening experience. Old school analogue production technique has been applied to give this tune a warm and driving edge, that seems to be missing in most computer based productions these days. So turn up the speakers and enjoy the sonics and the music.
For the flipside, long time partner RAWFULL joins DKAY in the studio once again. IN YOUR NAME is a bit more minimalistic than other tunes by the duo also known as ILLSKILLZ. A deep but angry reese bassline and a hypnotic synth riff are the trademark sounds in this dreamy piece of music, that will excite both party goers and home listeners alike. Here is what others had to say about this release:
MARCUS INTALEX on IN YOUR NAME: “Been starting my sets off with this recently.. sets the mood perfecty…”
LOGISTICS on FOR LOVE OR MONEY: “DKAY proves once again that soulful tunes can still have impact on the dancefloor, loving this one!!”

EXIT021 Living Proof – Code 3 Exit Records 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. Living Proof sees Code 3 come with their next eagerly awaited lesson in subtle dance floor devastation. A paranoia inducing soundscape sets the scene, combining with an ever-building groove that takes the listener further into the depths with each ugly turn. Dropping with a wall of sub bass, it’s clear why this tune is also known as the ‘rig tester’. Choice effects, distorted fizz and hits bounce off one another giving the track an irresistible groove and a real heads down feel. The sub bass assault is unrelenting and demands the listeners undivided attention. Hurting the clubs worldwide and included by dBridge & Instra:mental in their Fabric Live 50 mix CD, Living Proof is a tune you need in your box right now. From the off the organic and springy Bristol inspired drums reveal that this track is poised to be a heavyweight roller, perfect to kick off any set. The sub creeps in almost immediately and the intention is clear, this one’s made for skanking. A constantly evolving and morphing bass line layered upon funky edits and retro sound effects will have people moving throughout. Response Call completes another must have record from Code 3, ones to watch very closely this year.

SUBS008 Back To The Machine Sampler – Current Value Subsistenz 12″ Vinyl
Subsistenz is back after a short seasonal break with one of the masters of sound design Current Value. Kick starting our new year with two tracks off pure techy genius just a small taste of what is to come on the much anticipated album Back To The Machine (subs001). A1 – Lipophil is a new breed of techno based dnb a deep brooding machine funk that captures the essence of techno and the energy of dnb. Moving away from the noise and into the sound scapes of detuned techy melodies reminiscence of the days of smokey single strobe techno parties held in basements all over Europe. Like a dysfunctional child lipophils energy is relentless and emotionally evolving held delicately within the threshold of its own exsistence. AA2 – In The Shell has been reworked and mangled by one half of Machine Code (current value) taken from there deeply awaited album Environments due out later this year on Subtrakt. The original machine step groove has been chopped – broken and reformed into a dnb floor stomper. This track is brutal in deliverance, sound and arrangement, with no remorse current value cooks up and injects a lethal strain straight to the mother vein.

ADRS001 Twilight – BMK Audio Danger Records 12″ Vinyl
Finish copies. Audio Danger records are proud to announce its first release. It hosts BMK’s ‘Twilight’ with a stunning remix on the flip by the king of soulful Drum and Bass, Utah Jazz. Both these tracks have had major support on BBC radio 1 and 1xtra from Fabio, Grooverider, Bailey, Nerm and D-code and more.
A. Twilight – BMK is an up and coming producer who has had releases on many other labels and is set to be a rising star for 2010. He comes to Audio Danger Records with a track that is full of summer dance floor niceness with its flowing bass line, vocals and pads. The track is reminiscent of the early liquid sound in 2003-04 with heavier beats and cut vocal samples. The combination of harder drums with the pad and vocal elements come together to bring a track that is sure to stand the test of time. Twilight is guaranteed to get any dance floor moving and is sure to be a smash throughout the Drum and Bass scene.
B. Twilight – BMK (Utah Jazz Remix) – Utah Jazz is best known for his soulful Drum and bass and with this remix he doesn’t disappoint. Using the best elements of BMK’s version, he takes them down another level and makes the track more relaxed in its nature. He combines his style with the elements of the original perfectly. This version is being championed by Bailey and Fabio and listening to it you can hear why. If you prefer your beats with soul and feeling then this is the version for you. The release also features an amazing artist who goes by the name of Tom Walker. He has created an unbelievable unique piece of artwork for the releases sleeve and this would make you want it either in your box to play or on your wall to appreciate it. The entire package is a must have for DJ’s and art lovers alike….

New Dubstep CD

HFCD003 Triangulation – Scuba Hotflush Recordings CD
Scuba, aka Paul Rose, has been at the forefront of the dubstep scene since its birth. Having founded the innovative and influential Hotflush Recordings label in 2003, he has continually brought colour and depth to an advancing genre, expanding its sonic structure and increasing its influence on the wider electronic scene. Through Scuba and seminal work by central figures including Distance, Vex’d and more recently Mount Kimbie and Joy Orbison, Hotflush remains crucial to the immediate moment and the developing future of the most exciting aspects of electronic music.
Following the first Scuba LP, A Mutual Antipathy (2008), and the more recent Aesaunic EP (2009), this album takes the Scuba sound to a new level. The collision of dubstep and techno has produced startling music from a wide range of producers in the last few years, none more than Scuba, and that has been well documented. But Triangulation moves past the dubstep/techno axis and into new territory. Working at multiple tempos, the album covers an area ranging from house to experimental drum n bass while retaining the Scuba sound that has become so distinctive. You Got Me and So You Think You’re Special, released as an advance 12”, reflect the range of the album with the huge bass and frenetic energy of the former contrasting with the melancholic atmospheres and melodies of the latter. The listless beauty of Before, the aggressively percussive Minerals and the hyperactive electro of On Deck provide further stylistic variation, but this is not simply a collection of tracks – for the best sonic results this album should be listened to in full.

IME015 000 / Slippin – XI Immerse Records 12″ Vinyl
Toronto based XI makes his immerse debut having caught the eye with his recent release on OffRoad. 000 with its quirky, hypnotic vocal alongside the relentless sub dares people not to get lost within its enveloping warmth. On the flip, Slippin is another militant sub work out, but with a gradual build into a twinkling electro soundscape, with some rather rude bass stab action to reward the long play listener.

STORM016 Solid State – Emalkay Storming Productions 12″ Vinyl
Fresh off the back of the massive single ‘When I Look At You’ & ‘AGS’ on sister label Dub Police. Emalkay steps up to Storming Productions with two wicked tracks. They have been tearing up dancefloors worldwide over the last couple of months. Both remaining permanent fixtures in the sets of Caspa, Benga, Skream, The Others, N-Type, Hatcha and just about anybody who is anybody in dubstep right now. Solid State is a brutal anthem that has been melting a few faces as of late. The track has a dark and mystical intro with drums tougher than Mike Tyson’s knuckles. This is all before dropping into an unforgiving crunching bass that will bring any dancefloor to submission. On the flip is the heavyweight ‘Battlesuit’ this is a dark roller with a real swing. An atmospheric soundscape with rolling drums that don’t prepare you for the warping sub bass. This bassline will smack you in the face at the drop, as the track seemingly morphs and progresses into a dark techy monster. Another essential release from Emalkay and a welcome return of one of dubstep’s foundation labels.

ARX004 Minimal Bump EP – Nekochan Airflex Labs 12″ Vinyl
Nekochan’s 2009 debut download-only release met with success in pushing dubstep into new zones, and now comes the first foray into vinyl, with the three-track killer ‘Minimal Bump’ EP, that will further reconfigure notions of what bass music can be. The title track has already been featured on Mary Anne Hobbs, who played an early version in may last year after hearing it on myspace. ‘Minimal Bump’ is a powerful techno/break/dubstep instrumental with a huge kick and seismic bass work, custom built for dancefloor mayhem, with its layered synths, advanced rythmic shifts, cavernous drops, and an explosive production style that recalls the intricacies of prime Meat Beat Manifesto at the same time as giving Reso a run for his money. On the flip, ‘Bombine’ is another view entirely; a emotive disjointed stepper with melancoly pop tones, which unfolds in a smokey torch-song style to reveal further layers to Nekochan’s innate musical instincts. It’s fluidly evolving contrasts between dominant bass levels, powerful rhythms, and subtlypitched Japanese strings mix and grow around that voice, putting the listener as much in mind of Burial’s sadness as Bjork’s vivid expression. Finally, Vahiné is a refreshing journey into a lighter and atmospheric dubstep style, reminiscent in mood of Scuba or Martyn, with a dynamic bouncy drum pattern delivering the perfect groove for the heavy bassline to ride on while the sweet string melody leads from the front. Essential purchase for anyone seeking out new directions in heady dancefloor electronics.

RAMP028 Maintain – Computer Jay Ramp Recordings 12″ Vinyl
Finish copies. COMPUTER JAY returns to RAMP after the massive Distance/Epiphany 10” earlier this year, with Maintain. Now if you don’t know, Jay is an LA resident, and part of the collective that includes Flying Lotus, Ras G, Gaslamp Killer, y’all know the names… Jay’s best friend is a computer, surprisingly named Computer. Computer is a wise cracking collection of circuit boards, and enjoys spitting crazy verses over Jay’s synth-heavy beats. Maintain is their first collaboration that has reached wax, and boy, you better brace yourselves! Ascending analog flourishes scattered over Jay’s minimal beats, giving Computer room to do his thing. Jay’s epic production packs more into 3 and a half minutes than most producers can cram into 10. True to form, we have drafted an unrivaled array of remixers in for the project. RAMP’s best boy FaltyDL is first up, and gives us an edgy and uncomfortable edit in his unique garage-not-garage style. Upstanding member of the community, and all round lovely chap MIKE SLOTT steps out of his comfort zone with some euphoric basslined hip hop badness. IKONIKA brings the project to its conclusion with a hands-in-the-air, wonky, broody techstep rendition. DJ SUPPORT FROM MARY ANNE HOBBS, ONEMAN, CLOUDS, ALEX NUT, KODE 9.

MEDI024 Protecting Hands Remixes – Clouds Deep Medi Musik 12″ Vinyl
Finish Copy. Following on from the highly acclaimed original productions ‘Protecting Hands (Parts 1 and 2)’ released mid-2009 on DEEP MEDi Musik, Clouds have enlisted Berkane Sol’s label owner Geiom and experimental electronic minimalists Isan to dissect and rebuild. Kamal Joory AKA Geiom has been busy producing since the late 90’s pushing the downtempo and ambient sounds of IDM and merging them with his love of raw grime and garage instrumentals. In 2006 Geiom started the ever-reliable Berkane Sol imprint releasing his own work (most notable the stunning ‘Reminssin’ featuring Marita) but also giving Brackles and Shortstuff their first outing on wax. Geiom’s remix of ‘Protecting Hands’ sketches out a dreamy, beautiful half-step approach with his love of electronica clearly coming heavily in to play, complimenting the original ghostly vocal perfectly. One of his best productions we think? Isan have been making minimalistic electronics since the mid 90’s with killer releases on Morr Music and Static Craven. Clouds are clearly fans of their work and this comes across in their remix as they dissect the original and create a blissful, beatless journey, permitting the sound to develop organically, with their intuitive grasp of melody and their intelligent manipulation of sound dictating its direction.

Seven is an upcoming artist who’s releases on Aquatic Lab triggered some attention he has since been working heavily on collabs with N-Type and… Youngsta, who isn’t famed for his productions, more for his expert DJ skills showcased regularly on Rinse FM. ‘Masiamara’s atmospheric intro is classic Youngsta vibes, deep, dark and heavyweight, reminiscent of SP:MC’s recent output, rolling drums and a funky bass line. LAB009 The Sound – Cluekid Aquatic Lab Records 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. Aquatic Lab kick of 2010 with an already established club anthem. Cluekid’s remake of Reggie Stepper’s ‘Drum Pan Sound’ strikes heavy with a ruff and rugged bassline that rolls nicely under the familiar melody & vocal hooks of the original. The drums on this one are clean, precise & ten tonne. The flip features an old school revivalist joint with the palette borrowing from Jungle. ‘Late Nights’ brings forth quality production techniques, from the crisp percussion to the warm massively padded bassline. Essential.

SPEAKS001 The Always EP – Hackman Shifting Peaks 12″ Vinyl
Finish copies. With a label HQ based half way up a cliff in deepest North Devon, and an artist roster that includes a Hampshire lad living in Leeds, a crew of Cubans holed up in Hackney, and the hottest new thing to come up out of Leicester since Willie Thorne hung up his cue, new label Shifting Peaks won’t be easy to pin down geographically . And musically it promises to be no less diverse, covering everything from the deeper end of Funky and 2010 Garage to Cuban Hip Hop and dubbed out Beats. Kicking things off in style for the label is Leeds resident Hackman, who’s ‘Pistol in Your Pocket’ tune was one of the highlights of the recent Fabric/Elevator comp. Lead cut ‘Always ‘ employs the vocal talents of newcomer Harper Lake over a bumping UKF/Nu Garage backing that’s both warm and deep, combining proper hooks with easy dancefloor appeal. Fast rising Londoner Brackles then takes the song and straps on a phuture – garage turbo-charger, adding techno textures and slamming beats for a crunching, dynamic rework. An instrumental version of Hackmans’ original works in it’s own right , and to round the package off, the dubheads also get ‘Multicultural’, a deep, percussion driven roller perfect for late night jams and red eyed-headphone excursions alike.

O4H001 Seeking feat Yolanda – Ghettozoid 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. The label is called ‘One4Ho’. The origins of it’s name came from a seminal summer in Berlin, where Sophie Ruston (Ghettozoid) and Mai Harper (label founders) first laid eyes on each other. The name One4Ho incorporates Ghettozoid’s obsession with Miami Bass. Essentially we are ladies that love the 140tempo.
IDJ mag review: Bristol resident Ghettozoid brings in fêted vocalist Yolanda to help launch her One 4 Ho imprint. Moody washes of midrange synth provide an ample background for Yolanda’s stunning vocal spiritual, clockwork garage breaks and thunderous bass thrum adding a dash of urgency to the mix. Crackle house specialist Blue Daisy turns in a sick remix on the flip, dubbing the track hard as he stretches the samples tautly across his canvas – ambient vocal excursions eventually joined by a burrowing acid bassline and Daisy’s trademark squeezed beats.

Science are a young production team out of the greater Antwerp area. This is their debut release and as such a great introduction to their sound. Lots of people are whispering their names right now, here’s your chance to hear why… Sometimes you can come across a musical project that encapsulates the fun we all have in our lives which then instantly becomes a soundtrack to get you through your daily grind, so welcome to the world of Boe Weaver, where 3D sunglasses are needed just to understand the madness of what is being concocted. As one review of Boe Weaver’s debut so rightly put it “If this LP was thirty-odd years old and the soundtrack to some exploito-hacker movie, then it would be changing hands for £200-plus. However, it’s a new release, which means you don’t have to pay through the nose to land a copy…’ You definitely should Because what Boe Weaver do is far out shit, basically. A lava lamp of sound exploding in your face. A cosmic rearrangement and prolonged derangement of the senses that is totally necessary in an era when 99% of music does anything but that. What happened to wanting to change the world through music? Start a revolution? Healing the karmic wounds of the universe? sick and the needy? It’s right here. We could also maybe point to some disparate contemporary reference points too: Chrome Hoof, Oneida, The Horrors, Dungen, David Holmes, Cherrystones. That type of thing.
