Mindscape – Reefer. Mindscape is a Hungarian Drum and Bass production/Dj Trio formed in late 2002. They are heavily involved in the lively Budapest scene. They are influenced by the early tech step era of Drum and Bass and inspired by various other styles such as House, Dub, Hip Hop or Minimal Techno. The first Mindscape release came out on DJ Trace’s London-based label, DSCI4. Since then Mindscape have had several tracks released on Subtitles, Hospital, Inneractive, Red Light, Citrus, Celsius, Syndrome and Fokuz Recordings. Reefer has had Dj support from Phil Source, Ed Rush, Cause 4 Concern, Break, Trace, Optiv and Squire among others. Soul Intent – Future Funk – Phil Source and Outrage Remix Alex Judd aka Soul Intent has a big reputation building around him. He works out of Nottingham in the U.K. He has already had releases out on Creative Source, Blindside, Samurai, MacII, 31 Records and Horizons. This guy is part of the new breed of Drum and Bass. “Future Funk” featured on VAMPDJUK007 and was a big track on the circuit played by Fabio and Grooverider (Radio 1). Grooverider has tipped Soul Intent to be one to watch for the future! Watch out for more Soul Intent music on Vampire. Phil Source and Outrage who have remixed the track are big producers that have featured on labels such as Metalheadz, Good Looking, Mo Wax, Virgin, Backlash and J-Tek.

HENCHLP001 Hench Mixtape Vol 1 – Mixed By Jakes Hench CD
Having masterfully mixed the HENCH Mixtape (Vol. 1), Jakes introduces several of his unreleased works into the label showcase. Featuring VIP’s of many of his previously released tracks; the mix offers something new even for the hardiest of HENCH fans. Providing a platform for both established artists as well as those who are less familiar amongst the scene’s heads – one of the mix’s defining accomplishments is the uniformity in standard of production. Komonazmuk, who is currently writing his debut album that will be released on HENCH later in 2010 has also made a stunning tune to lend to the mix (You Fo’). Giant’s hugely successful Swoosh and a VIP of Drumstick, along with VIP’s of Eddie K’s debut 12” on the label also feature. Tracks from the unmistakable Chasing Shadows and Lost are dropped into the mix, which will only add to the splash that these young producers are currently creating in the music scene. Expect to take notice of HENCH’s most recent signing, Mensah – currently the talk of Bristol after having his production featured in TV Series, CSI, and having productions lined up for future releases on Jakes’ label. Supported by N-TYPE, BUNZER0, MARLOW, MATT-U, WALSH! JSL (aka Wolf Man aka RUF aka Fresh aka Jürgen Flemming) is a Producer, remixer, DJ, graphic designer, based in Copenhagen, Denmark. One fourth, and graphics headmaster of one of the most successful and best established event/sound system crews in Copenhagen – OHOI! which is also the force behind Kraken Recordings. With releases spanning back to 1995 and a remix for EMI records in the bag this is one well respected European producer. Since his move firmly into the sounds of Dubstep he has been associated with the highly successful Kraken Recordings (and also responsible for the sick design!) and Red Volume records from Sweden.

The newly formed Steak House Records bring some much-needed carnival fire for these winter months, their sights firmly on the Trinidad carnival season. Label owners Atki2 and Hanuman take the helm on this release, enlisting the vocal talents of MC Zulu on the EP’s standout lead track ‘Hyped Up’. David has released on a diverse selection of labels including Soul Jazz, Tempa, Aus, Critical Music and Hessle Audio, the label he co-runs with Pangaea and Ben UFO. Ramadanman has also remixed a variety of artists including the Ragga Twins, Delphic, Beat Pharmacy, Howie B, SpectraSoul and the Bulgarian group Wickeda. In 2009, Ramadanman mixed the seventh installement of the iconic Tempa Dubstep Allstars CD alongside DJ Chef He has enjoyed DJ support from the likes of Ricardo Villalobos, Skream, Mr Scruff, Craig Richards, Francois K, Kode9, Mala, Mary Anne Hobbs, Rob da Bank, Gilles Peterson and many more. He is also heavily involved in organizing the Leeds night Ruffage as well as co-hosting the Hessle Audio show on Rinse.fm. Ramadanman DJs often both nationally and internationally including regular dates at the dubstep institution, FWD in London.

Finish Copy Promo. 200 Gram Vinyl Pressing featuring artwork by Zombie Kudos and Yung-e aka Soundproof are back again with their own unique style on one of the first Dubstep imprints, SP Records. First out is 3 Degrees – Originally released on the excellent Boka Records in 2005, Soundproof have added to an already deep track with this remix. A discreet and atmospheric intro leads the way with catchy, melodic stabs and the occasional kick drum. Then a riser with the sample “3 Degrees, Hold, Fire!” to signal that something big is on its way. The tune drops in with tight and punchy kicks that bounce alongside crunchy snares as the track moves along a solid bedrock of sub-bass. A few sweet drum edits later the pace picks up with added bongo’s and that catchy melody again. There is depth and movement throughout this sick track – Serious business from Soundproof. On the flip is the wicked Jungle Story. A shuffling hat pattern with the vocal “It Keeps moving” leads you through the intro accompanied by weird sounds and a straight bongo hit. Then an echoed horn takes you to the drop with a heavy bass, reminiscent of the old Jungle scene. As the track evolves you come to a massive breakdown, filled with echoed stabs and clean deep sub-bass, here the tune takes on an eerie persona. Then, Whack! Amen breaks and a sub bring the track to rinse out levels. A raw, driving track with lots of personality, on a big system this will blow your socks off. A homage to the Jungle scene from Soundproof.

Finish copy. Debut single for hotly tipped London based producer Pariah on the legendary R&S record label. Pariah is a precocious young talent. Part of the same London bass music scene that has spawned the likes of Burial, Bullion, James Blake, Pangaea and Untold, and part of wider loosely knit scene that includes futuristic, electronic beatsmiths such as Flying Lotus, Hudson Mohawke, Rustie, Falty DL etc. Already an in demand remixer before the release of this debut single. He has remixed current media darlings The XX (Basic Space – easy the best mix of the bunch), Brit winner Ellie Goulding (Under The Sheets), Bombay Bicycle Club (Always Like This) and might have had a hand in a certain Erykah Badu bootleg doing the rounds. The two tracks on this debut single were the his first ever finished productions and snapped up by R&S under the noses of a whole bunch of interested high profile labels. They continue the R&S tradition of releasing forward thinking electronic music, and follow the lineage of Aphex Twin, Model 500, Patrick Pulsinger and Derrick May. The two tracks on this single wear the influences on their sleeve, referencing the hip hop beat collages of Dilla and the moody atmospheric 2 step rhythms of Burial, but still contain the rich Pariah DNA which will be even more apparent on his future R&S singles. The stuff we have heard so far has blown our socks off taking influences from sources as diverse as Levon Vincent, Fennesz and classic Detroit techno as well as the likes of MJ Cole and Steve Gurley. Already a name on the lips of the hip blog crowd (featured on Pitchfork, Gorilla Vs Bear, No Pain In Pop and Rcrd Lbl) and in demand on the European underground DJ circuit this debut 10” is likely to become a collectors item and catapult him onto much bigger things.
