Since their debut appearance on Deep Medi Music, Truth has been hard at work on their LP and now it’s ready to drop. With the initial album sampler (LAB010 ‘Dead Silence’ & ‘Burglar’) laying the foundations, the second 12” LAB011 (forthcoming on 9th August) reinforces with ‘Juno’ & ‘Under Current’, two huge stepper grooves layered with more than enough weight for the shockout. The album itself ‘Puppets’ is a dense trip through moody big bass-driven soundscapes that include some of their finest work in the form of ‘The Fatman’, ‘Lab Rat’ and a VIP of the previously released ‘Terror Planet’. Also on the roster, Truth’s ‘Legion’, possibly their most sought-after riddim to date, which brings their trademark sound signatures of sweeping synths and massive amounts of bass fully into place. ‘Pup- pets’ touches on many styles such as the liquid offering of ‘Indigo Mood’, or the almost genre defying vocal lick ‘Don’t Explain’. ‘Puppets’ is a full bodied experience from start to finish – for darkly elegant dubstep it doesn’t get much better than this.

Truth

Truth have received DJ support around the globe from artists such as Mala, Skream, Joe Nice, Breakage, Hatcha and N Type, with their beats being dropped at shows from Club Love in New York City to DMZ in London, as well as featur- ing on radio stations BBC Radio One, Kiss and Rinse. Two comprehensive Europe tours and a string of gigs around Australia and Asia, have included an appearance at the legendary DMZ night in Brixton and the infamous Sub Dub in Leeds.

Truth’s big riddims have been quickly snatched up by a number of established labels such as seminal Deep Medi Musik and Skream’s Disfigured Dubs. Alix Perez has included his collaboration with Truth on his debut album ’1984′ and the group have remixed the likes of The Nextmen, Ms Dynamite and Silverclub.

Limited edition (Triple Snow White Vinyl). Often choosing to position himself as an outsider, Alaska’s success has never been limited to that of the UK- orientated drum and bass scene. He has collaborated under the Paradox name with some of greatest contemporary musicians the world has to offer, including Herbie Hancock, Bill Laswell, Shobha Gurtu, Toshinori Kondo and Bernie Worrell. His new album The Mesozic Era which is to be released on May 24th 2010, is the third in a trilogy of solo Alaska lp’s and a follow up to 2006’s successful Arctic Foundations. NONPLUS007 Ochre / Cascade Failure – Vaccine Nonplus Records 12″ Vinyl
Nonplus 007 sees the Californian based producer Vaccine make her debut on the label with a brace of tracks in her signature style of rich musical textures and ingenious drum arrangements. With a wealth of releases on labels such as Hotflush and Tempa, its safe to say that quality control has never been an issue for her and this release is no exception.
a) Vaccine ‘Ochre’ – The a-side ‘Ochre’ with its scratchy lo-fi beats and rugged gliding bassline is textbook Vaccine. An abstract looping vocal brings an almost soulful edge to the track but it still remains tense and gritty throughout. Doing damage in clubs across the world but just as relevant at home, this track will stay in your playlist for the long haul.
aa) Vaccine ‘Cascade failure’ – Slightly mellower than the a-side but on more of an emotive tip, this track plays with orchestral “Burialesque” chords and melodies and really makes you get your thinking cap on. Once again her trademark lo-fi beats and percussion swirl around in seemingly effortless complex patterns, with layer upon layer of chords and melodies the track has so much depth its almost impossible to take it all in with just one listen.

Wetting the appetite for the forthcoming ‘Puppets’ album, Aquatic Lab dish up two varied future bass experiments from Truth. First up ‘Burglar’ a tech-stepping original production bedded with sharp snapping drums & snares that bite straight through the rave atmospherics. SENSELESS012 Zombiezz EP – Kanji Kinetic Senseless Records 12″ Vinyl
Senseless have always believed that the spirit of rave never died, it’s everywhere, but now in 2010 we’ve discovered that spirit distilled into its purest form, let’s call it essence of rave. Kanji Kinetic makes it, a monstrous hybrid of electro, bassline, jungle and, yes, rave. It doesn’t just deny classification, it smashes it to pieces. These tracks look backwards but sound like the future, they’re cheeky but deadly serious, they’re rough and smooth, sharp and blunt, sweet and sour, bouncy, wonky, hyper and just a little bit insane. In short, the ultimate party music. The EP is a game of two halves, easing you in at 140 BPM with a wonky mixture of futurebassline and pitch bent synths (ToyGuns) then rolling into the monstrous Scientist. Reach-for-the-lazers rave stabs and scorching bass collide to make something seriously dangerous. We then take a quick diversion for a remix from Kaiser, a newcomer with releases coming on Starkey’s Slit Jockey, who twists Toy Guns into a devastating mix of grime, 8bit bleeps and UK Funky syncopation, this is what it sounds like to be one of those ghosts being eaten by Pacman. Next up we turn up the pace for ‘New Era’, weighing in at 175 BPM, it’s the fastest thing we’ve ever released but its half time weight makes it feel like jungle chopped and screwed in the fifth dimension. Quite simply it has the biggest drop you will hear this year, possibly ever. It’s jungle tempo but drop this in a dubstep set and watch the floor ignite. The title track, Zombiezz also rocks 175 BPM on the half time but does it 4×4, cheeky cartoon samples and strings building to another seismic sub frequency workout. Finally Zombiezz gets two remixes, Cracks turn in something pretty special, taking things back down to 140 and turn in a mix they’re calling ‘Horror House’, a visceral mixture of techno, grime and lots of bass. Then just for fun we asked legendary hardtek producer 9MM to see if he could make Zombiezz a little harder, and he did. Enjoy! FRJ006 Angels Dub EP – Kuoyàh Frijsfo Beats 12″ Vinyl
Italy’s Marco Donnarumma indicated some of the potential of his Kuoyàh project with last April’s digital release for Frijsfo, earning enthusiastic tips from the likes of Boomkat. Nonetheless, there’s no doubt that his debut on wax ups the game – even in the face of a mix from Sully – by applying a focus capable of working magic in 2010′s open-ended dubstep dance. It’s an overused comparison that probably deserves to be buried, but Angel Dub does reek of Horsepower Productions, or more precisely the ducking 2-step and Basic Channel steals of Benny Ill’s classic Tempa EP with Hatcha. In this case laziness has been avoided, a sunstroked, hazy quality making it sound Kuoyàh’s own, and a judicious electronica dimension expanding the arrangement without falling into the IDM-ish trap of trying to ape something cleverer. That holds true even for the more downtempo Asia, which turns up the dub channel to find hordes of space-echo revenants chasing around. The thoroughly dust-less grooves of common soundsystem samples are absent, though, dropped for an unexpected reversioning of Artificial Intelligence bleep tones. On Soldiers, Donnarumma’s background in electroacoustic music and ambient is more obvious, in common with Chase The Comedown, 2009′s digital EP. It’s equally clear how he’s been sharpening this kind of line since then, refining trademark, half-dismantled bundles of beats to the point where everything is in just the right wrong place. Attention for this EP will understandably bend towards Sully’s Angels Dub remix, not without justification. It’s another great Jack Stevens beat, with pummelling sub-bass, arpeggios scrambled almost in the style of Zomby and an uncharacteristically martial drum track beating out something like an Addison Groove juke pattern. Kuoyàh himself, though, deserves just as much of your time on this one, trust us.

HENCH017 1986 Was The Future – Mensah Hench 12″ Vinyl
Visit Bristol and mention the name Mensah; chances are that someone’s going to know the man we’re talking about. Having become involved in the Bristol music scene at an early age, there’s no surprise that his productions epitomize the things associated with the city’s music – positivity and progressiveness. Having already lent the bouncy number, Pulse 80’s, to the Hench Mixtape Vol. 1, and getting voted in the as one of the ‘Top 10 Producers to watch’ in the Dubstep Forum Awards, Mensah provides us with yet more reason to mark him down as one to keep an eye on in the future. The Untitled Future Funk EP is a 6 track release that provides a true insight into the depth of studio-skills this young artist has developed, touching on both the atmospheric and downright funky sides of dubstep. Already having had a track placed on the CSI TV series (Stapleton Rd) and with all tracks receiving regular play from the scene’s big hitters, we’re excited to present this stunning effort from Mensah.
A. 1986 WAS THE FUTURE – The synth-led chords from the outset of this tune frame it as a future classic of dubstep. Not holding back when the bassline drops, Mensah has crafted a sound that delivers a punch. A truly gripping production that keeps you locked, seeming to introduce new sounds and phrases whilst maintaining its esoteric feel. ‘1986 Was The Future’ is going to be one of those tunes that’ll have the dancefloor screaming for rewind after rewind – and we’re sorry, but you’re going to be obliged to give it to them! Currently being rinsed by the likes of Plastician, Starkey and L-Vis.
AA1. ACID DUB – On a slightly different tip, Mensah hits us with something a little more accustomed to the HENCH imprint’s sound. Commencing with that familiar steppy vocal, the background interference builds into a seemingly mechanical drop – lifting and taking all with it. A truly funky production that guarantees to turn the party to a full-on warzone when that bassline drops – no wonder the likes of Skream, Bok Bok and Baobinga have been smashing this one.
AA1. UNTITLED FUTURE FUNK – Guiding us in with tripped-out synths and a gentle kick-drum, this one drops subtly. ‘Untitled Future Funk’ is a wonderfully unique production that sits perfectly as an end-of night tune that is as progressive as it is moody. The track develops introducing extra synth to compliment that jagged kick-drum bassline. The SubDivision round up some of some of dubstep’s heaviest and dirtiest mercenaries for the latest Paradise Lost offering of 4 remixes on the Interpretazioni EP. Roguestar starts things off with what can only be considered an epic remix of an already epic track, Devil’s Kiss. Full throttle from the start and straddling the line between dubstep and breakstep, this track will appeal to anyone needing to destroy the floor at 3AM. Lonewolf goes dirt for his remix of The Messenger, bringing the heat with his notorious filthy style, incorporating heavy synths with nasty breaks. On the flip, Djunya takes things to the dark side of dub, with his re-take on the bizzarely spacey Elephant Walk. Currently a favorite of DJs pushing the deeper sounds, Djunya brings in heavy reverbs, 8-bit stabs, and his trademark bassline business to produce a brilliant and complex sound. Vesicle round off the release with what might be their heaviest production yet on the remix of The Rose. SENSELESS013 Zarbak – Pacheko & Pocz Senseless Records 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. The phrase ‘tropical’ is currently getting used to describe a lot of different music; some good, some bad, some ugly. To save on confusion Senseless went out and travelled the world to find some music from the actual tropics, Venezuela to be precise. Somewhere buried deep in the mysterious rainforest, or possibly just in a studio in Caracas, they found Pocz and Pacheko. It’s so near the equator maybe we can ditch the ‘tropical bass’ tag and go for something new, ‘equatorial bass’ perhaps? Maybe not. Pacheko, Francisco Mejia, will be familiar to some for his solo releases on Lo Dubs, Murder Channel, Seclusiasis and for his work with legendary Venezualan expat Cardopusher. His partner in bass Pocz (Carlos Majoral) is a classically trained musician and production engineer. Along with a select few others they run Abstractor, a collective of producers, artists and designers, who promote parties, run a blog and do a fine job of representing bass music in Venezuela pretty much solo. The collective includes graphic artist Design or Die who is responsible for the incredible artwork and pretty special video for ‘Zarbak’. Together by day Pocz and Pacheko run a sound design studio in the rum fuelled pressure cooker of political and social unrest that is Caracas. Their training in high-end audio engineering is evident in the quality and weight of the production. Nights are spent in the tropical heat cooking up beats. Over the years an audio diet that includes salsa, merengue, reggaeton and other local music mixed with old jungle tapes, Rinse FM sets and lots of dub has helped them to build a unique and captivating sound that combines all those things.
The spirit of hardcore, jungle and garage from the UK are all evident from the UK Funky rhythms and rumbling sub bass in ‘Zarbak’ to the melancholy melodic refrains of ‘Dorado’ but there’s something else there too. There’s something tribal in the drums that taps into a deep history of Latin American percussive rhythms and adds a dimension that is clearly their own. If UK bass is about the energy and pressure of the city at night then Caracas bass about the point where the intensity of the city meets the wide open space of the jungle, the beach and the mountains under a carpet of stars. Put the needle on the record, close your eyes and imagine it. Also, there’s remixes from Brackles (Blunted Robots/Planet Mu) and Mr Gasparov (Soul Jazz).

Hungary is the fresh birthplace of so many top producers within the DnB scene. Mindscape, Matt-U, Chris.SU, SKC. But this one producer has managed to produce so many killer tracks Citrus could not just leave it alone… This Producer is Jade.. And his Venom LP is the result of his hard work. A deadly collection of productions that, once injected into the eardrum will grasp the host track by track untill there isnt anything left! The LP starts off with the title track “Venom” where Jade teams up with the legendary Rymetyme! This time things get different as the rugged sounds will take down venues limb by limb like you havent heard before. Heavy over the top Neuro sounds rampage through the speakers to break loose the mayhem! Then its up to the second track.. the track suitably named “No Cure”… A Lethal tune that will keep you grasping for air every time.. This Teched out battering-ram is made for even the biggest powerhouses to get blown to pieces in just a single hit.. “Hit em in between the eyes” click click BOOM! Track 3 contains the Icicle rework of “This Is My World” (the original features on the sampler) stripping down the original to an ice cold minimalistic sound, oldskool tech-steppin vibes are definitely the case here but with an upgraded 2009 feel! Then for track 4 Jade teams up with longtime producer friend Matt-U.. They did their first release together so this was a logical step. And if logical could sound so phat as this.. then logical is the way to go.. Moblaw is a straight up elblow greaser thatll make you get messy on the dancefloor. The funk just oozes off this tight production thatll make you scream for more! Then on to 5… where Jade remixes three of his best friends.. namely the dutch trio thats Black Sun Empire. This remix tributes the trio as they where the first ones to recognise the skill of Jade’s production.. But now its time to repay the favor as his remix gives stasis that extra piece of fire it needed as it turns into a piece of dancefloor filth like no other. Have the tables turned?

EXIT019 Wrong Way – Abstract Elements Exit Records 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. The first release for 2010 on Exit records comes in the form of two tracks by Russian newcomers Abstract Elements, made up of two producers Bop and Diagram. Their tracks caught the attention of label owner dBridge with their seemingly fearless quest for experimentation and have featured heavily in the sets of DJs such as dBridge, Instra:mental, Loxy, ASC and also on the Autonomic podcasts. Both tracks sit just as comfortably at clubs such as FWD as they do in an all out DnB party. “Wrong Way” takes us into a void of sound and space, built around a metronomic radar blip, the track sinks down deep through the uncharted depths of the subsonic bass realms. Attention to detail, intricate use of atmospheric sound effects and devastating low end bass give this track a unique sensation which just cannot be ignored. Repeated listening is required to fully explore the vast soundscape that they have created here. “Abysmal Depth” could be described as a distorted fusion of dub and electronica but also delves into the 4×4 genre.
Once again, their use of constantly transforming effects and mood altering atmospherics give this track the quality of being able to take the listener on a journey and leaves them with an awkward sense of not knowing exactly where they’ve just been. Consequence was introduced to d-Bridge via mutual friends whilst touring New Zealand and after listening to some of his music, dbridge knew that he had found an artist with the potential to create an album suited to the labels ethos of writing music from the heart and not necessarily directed at the dancefloor. d-Bridge had just started his Autonomic podcast series alongside Instra:mental with the intention of showcasing and developing artists who were thinking outside of the conventional Drum & Bass box. Consequence has become a core member of this crew who have gone on to secure an Autonomic residency at the world famous Fabric night-club and turn many heads from outside the genre such as Laurent Garnier, Skream and Actress to name a few. The album contains collaborations with fellow Autonomic artists Instra:mental, ASC and d-Bridge and is a good representation of the versatility which Autonomic is becoming renowned for. Each track is a piece of music in its own right, but the whole album is best listened to as one long piece that flows harmonically from start to finish through different emotions and atmospheres.

Instra:mental welcome a new addition to the Nonplus+ camp who goes by the name of ASC. This producer is by no means new to making music, but recently his productions have become an essential addition to dBridge & Instra:mental’s Autonomic podcast series and also frequents their club sets.
a) ASC ‘Porcelain’ is a perfect illustration as to why Instra:mental have been paying ASC’s music so much attention. It begins with a glitchy yet groove-laden beat coupled with dramatic piano and fx stabs, then fills out with a warm drawing sub bass and smooth atmospheres. As the track progresses and you think it’s reached its climax, ASC cleverly layers an almost oriental sounding percussion stab to accompany the bass line and picks up the track to another level. This track is a prime example of being able to express the utmost with the minimum.
aa) ASC ‘Focus Inwards’ is the deeper side of this 12” and as the title suggests, takes you on a journey into yourself. Fully charged with progressive chords and melodies alongside electric sounding drum fills and percussion, the arrangement, musical content and pure elegance of this track give us an insight into ASC’s compositional abilities and potential for the future.

The Spatial 10-inch EP series reaches its third and most visceral installment yet with ’90729′ and ’90807′. Spatial’s inaugural release on Infrasonics in late 2008 was enthusiastically welcomed by listeners, DJsand critics, as was its follow-up earlier this year, a reaction attributable to the producer’s instinctive fit with one of the prevailing moods in dubstep – in reclaiming the fluidity of 2-step garage and reappropriating dub-techno processes, these productions capably stand alongside those of Martyn or 2562. More than the execution of these satisfying tropes, though, their strength lies in a spooky attunement to the faint vibrations of a whole spectrum of dancefloor epiphanies, presenting in some ways a crisper, less melancholy counterpart to Burial, or even James Kirby’s projects as The Caretaker, but from the right side of the comedown. This latest collection of tracks, possibly Spatial’s most evocative, takes indirect inspiration from experience of the kind of ’91-era Euro-rave documented in Warlock’s recent mix for FACT magazine. Removed as the comparison might seem given their wrought, contemporary sound, vestiges are detectable, such as the transmuted hoover basslines, hollow panic-synths and ectoplasmic vocal trails that at the peak of these tunes threaten to fill out Spatial’s characteristically airy, open-textured mix. Correspondingly, ’90729′ and ’90807′ all constitute conscious attempts to aim more squarely at the dancefloor, with success already coming in the form of DJ support from Untold, Incyde, T++, and Dubwar NYC resident Dave Q.

DARKESTRALEX001 One Man Jettison/Boundary Part 1 (Afterthought) // Decorum – Sabre Darkestral Excursions 12″ Vinyl
LIMITED EDITION 500 copies on Black vinyl, untreated black reverse board with overprinted logo. Sabre has built a name for a certain depth in his productions, and here forces the creation of a new project for Darkestral (Excursions) which came into being on hearing this cinematic trio of pieces. Falling into musically evocative areas such as soundtrack composition, the more minimal region of dubstep and future drum & bass, Sabre here gives vent to his more thoughtful, isolationist side, where constraints have been thrown out in favour of musical freedom and the use of naturalistic instrumentation, beautiful cellos and strings perfectly encapsulate the feeling of being on a lone drift in outer space, with a certain chilled air wrapping all three pieces.
Darkestral Excursions has been brought into existence to display a series of aural ventures into the farther reaches of the beat spectrum, an edge of universe collection of anti-gravity constructs for the adventurous inner-space traveller Selected as first pilot on this mission, the cinematic compositions of Sabre, already known for a sense of spacial definition but here freed of dancefloor constraint and able to run free with the more esoteric perspective often contained in his productions ‘One Man Jettison’ in title and sound design called for the creation of the latest Darkestral project, a particular home at the front of the mothership, a capsule prepared to journey to the outer reaches, solitary and mournful, encapsulated by the strings and feeling that an intrepid journey into the unknown was upon us all, that moves into a feeling of readiness to see the mission through. ‘Boundary pt.1 (afterthought)’ follows as an epilogue and a prologue to a fantastical new horizon, textured and psychedelic, beatless and airy… ‘Decorum’ – strings and a glowing halo at the end of worlds introduces a muted brass and lush, though exploratory off-step beat as the touchdown on a planets surface is described in a sense of wonderment.

RUNTIMELP001 Messages from the Void – Elemental Runtime Records 12″ Vinyl x 3
Elemental’s imminent debut LP “Messages from the Void” is a collection of work from the last four years, spanning a range of styles, made using a combination of new and old technologies, including Elemental’s beloved modular synthesizer. He is proud to be able to present it to the world – a favour returned for all of the amazing music that has touched him throughout his years as a music listener and raver. Elemental’s fresh take on the dubstep sound has got both scene stalwarts and eclectic tastemakers singing his praises. Blending components of acid house, Detroit techno, ‘golden age’ drum & bass, vintage dubwise and African rhythm, his sound is rich in texture and musical heritage, yet remains eminently danceable. The North London based producer – Adam Wilson to his friends – started dabbling with production in 1994 with a Roland D5 and Atari ST while he was still at school. Soon after he invested in an Akai S2000 sampler, bought a PC, and the rest, as they say, is history. In the nineties he predominantly focused on making drum and bass and experimental electronica, eventually putting out his first drum and bass release as a white label off his own back. A few years later, together with schoolmate Dario Swade, they formed the breakbeat garage duo Elemental & 3D, releasing on their own label Runtime Records in 2002. A couple of years later after some time abroad, Elemental caught the likes of Search & Destroy on Rinse FM and instantly found the sound he had been looking for: dark, heavy, syncopated beats and bass. Since 2004, Elemental has been focused on bringing his newly developed sound to the masses. Combining dubbed out dirty bass lines with hypnotising rhythms, he has released on labels such as Destructive, Hotflush, Pitch Black, Halo Beats, and his own imprint Runtime, with his seminal track “Soulfire” one of the highlights on Tayo’s Fabriclive mix CD. He was officially the first person to do a live dubstep performance, mixing up and dubbing components of his productions using Ableton Live to rapturous audiences across the world: no set is ever the same twice.

DST008 Blues Is Now – Funk Ethics Destructive Records 12″ Vinyl
3-track debut release from the UK’s Funk Ethics, first noticed and permanently represented by London’s legendary Dubstep label Destructive Records. “Blues Is Now” is the tune that launched FE into the limelight and was quickly picked up by Mary Anne Hobbs and showcased on her Radio 1 show, it was originally featured on the Destructive CD album which came out fairly recently (DSTCD001). Two brand new tracks “Dub Fluid” and “Trans Europa Step” are showcased on the flip, good support and a good buzz on these tracks as the funk-tech sounds of the Funk Ethics roll on into 2010.

Lisbon-based Octa Push are the newest recruits on the Iberian label and here they come up with the goods on this very distinctive international flavoured 3-tracker – following their debut vinyl release on Soul Jazz Records, Stepper’s Delight 2 compilation. Having blown up the Red Bull Stage at this year’s Sonar in Barcelona and wowed people at Fabric and the Glade Festival with their unique flow; which sees them combine the Portuguese and African sound spliced with elements of UK Garage, Dancehall and Techno. Both “Deixa” with Toni Clean, resident in Portugal and from the Cabo Verde Isles, and “Baila Mundo”, with the legendery MC Zulu and his distinctive randomised dance hall cadence, show Octa Push as accomplished producers – having already remixed the likes of Buraka Som Sistema, Debruit, Mochipet and Dj Znobia, to name a few – and skilled at using original vocals over their bass line driving funky beats; whilst “Dubshh” is a marvellous bustling and punchy instrumental rub perfectly illustrating their bass and groove style. Project Squared aims to release 12” vinyl and download projects that are dance floor focused, that test new ground and that have depth as well as impact. We release music that covers the space between Techno and Dubstep as well as music that stays more firmly within those two genres. Created as a sub-label of Project Mooncircle due to a change in taste from one of the co-ordinators of that label, we were amazed to find two artists (Asusu and Furesshu) that were not signed such was the quality of their music. Still in early stages, the label aims to keep releasing high quality dance music, to gather more artists and to change and evolve as styles change and evolve… Most importantly as our own tastes change and evolve. Project Squared is a sub-label of Project Mooncircle and is affiliated with HHV.de. The label is co-run by Paul Cooper and Gordon Gieseking. Artwork and design is by Gordon Gieseking. Asusu – Now a dubstep producer with his sound tied to the deeper side of things, Asusu has moved from roots in hip hop and trip hop through to garage, dubstep and dub techno. Recently he has received radio play from various DJ’s on Sub FM, Dubstep FM and Reload Radio, and DJ’s himself (dubstep, garage & techno) mainly in Bath and Bristol. His tracks have received accolades in Mixmag and ATM (L.V. and XI’s top ten charts). HENCH012 Ironhide / Slaughtered – Lost Hench 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. Born and bred in Croydon, 19-year old Justin Cantor, a.k.a Lost, is the latest addition to the acclaimed HENCH crew. Somewhat of a child prodigy, Justin started DJ-ing at an early age, and got his first set of decks aged 12. It was not long before Justin’s attention was caught by the burgeoning dubstep movement; inspired by the sounds of Skream and Digital Mystikz’s, he turned his hand to dubstep production early in 2008. Soon after, his debut release came out on Hatcha & N-Type’s ‘Croydon Dubheads’ EP. He recently was named alongside Emalkay and 16 Bit as one to watch in Radio 1xtra’s ‘Future Sound of Dubstep’. We’re proud to present Lost’s debut release on the Hench imprint and are sure that you’ll enjoy it.
A. IRONHIDE – Lost creates a seriously atmospheric mood from the start in Ironhide, building to a subtle drop of one mean reverbed wobbly bassline. A real creeper of a tune, the open hi-hat progresses throughout, giving way to a double time feel that’ll keep heads nodding. This is one serious weapon for your bag!
AA. SLAUGHTERED – Flip over for another bass-led rhythm, from Lost. Pushing a different tone from the A side (yet no less menacing), ‘Slaughtered’ immediately surrounds you with its rolling filtered wobble. This is one futuristic sounding bass riff. An echoey drum loop helps create an ambience and suspense to this track. With such a distinct vibe, you’re guaranteed to have the crowd putting their screwface’s on when this gets dropped.

Set up in 2009 by Heath Looney[EHL]. Pushing Red was established to blur the lines of dubstep & techno and inject the scene with something different! Carefully selecting artists we feel can bring a new flavour to the sound and have the same ethos we have! Coming off outstanding releases on Applepips, Naked Lunch & Tube10, Justin Shields (aka Jus Wan) has agreed to grace us with a release and we love him for it! The labels first release sees Jus Wan taking things adventurous and deep!
A – Azure starts off with warm crackles and melodies before it launches into a steppy, shuffled monster! Gorgeous synths and melodies ride of top creating a uplifting vibe while the deep bass and subs propel the track way down!

Dub Police drop an absolute peach of a single here from Birmingham’s ever rising star Emalkay. This side see’s the massive ‘When I Look At You’ get a release, and with support from Caspa, Benga, Skream, N-Type & just about anyone who is anyone battering the living daylights out of this tune its not hard to see why this has now got to the anthem status it so thoroughly deserves. A real epic intro with luscious pads and pitched vocals, before an absolutely ferocious drop of squelching bass and stomping beats. So big, its criminal! A.ILL – ‘Ill’ builds from an eerie intro, with sultry guitar chords and stabbing beat, slowly winding up to an immense drop. With twisted beats, a punishing b-line, and sweeping atmospherics, this is iller than ‘Ill’ – the bass is so low it will probably make you sick! Grimy and growling, this is a tune that’s going to tear your immune system to shreds.
AA. AMIRAH – Flip over for another dark, deep, no-nonsense number with ‘Amirah’; with ominous atmospherics, a stabbing drumbeat, and oriental female vox, ‘Amirah’ has plenty of spice and a feisty kick! A helicopter chopper sound fades in and out of consciousness and adds to the mayhem. Powerful and intense, with pummelling subs, heavy bassline and a thumping drum kick, ‘Amirah’ is a tune that takes no prisoners!

Meaty synths, a sexy melody, smooth delicate bassstings and a sharp drumbeat to nod your head to. A sure shot production that’ll leave and left tons of people wonder what that just was. It seems there aint no stopping the Taz because again he pulls it off on the flip with his other dancefloor smasher called 20 Red. 8 Bit bleeps and again a brutal squeezy synthline that’ll make your mouth water. Its like Snoop Dogg is floating on this orange cloud on his way to Jamaica to fill up his stash. A tune that finishes of this 12 inch in style and cements Taz as one to watch in the future! The classic TRG release. repressed and Re-released. Fresh from releasing killer plates on Hessle Audio, Subway and Audio Freakz, Romania’s TRG touches down on Immerse to deliver this highly-accomplished 12”. First up is Time is Now, kicking off with samples of dystopian android speech mixed up with a simple flute lick that gives no warning of the impending carnage! Snipped up breaks collide with whiplash-inducing bass action and shuddering subs to make a guaranteed mess of any dancefloor. Flipside, TRG gets more reflective with They Know, as wistful chords drift across the intro like echoes of some long-forgotten rave, before dropping into a post-UKG boom-bass workout. Subs bulge beneath the broken 2-step riddim and occasional warping midline, building nicely towards the killer switchups on the second drop.

Finish copies. Southern Australia’s Spherix has been plugging away for some time, releasing great tunes on a selection of labels, and Immerse have spotted his talent and snapped up a cracking twelve. In collaboration with London’s Sigha, ‘Seperation’ is a pounding atmospheric thumper, silken threads of sound woven around pulsing beats and surgical percussion,expertly designed and constructed to create perpetual forward motion. ‘Lesser People’ is somewhat harder – crisp drums, ticking hats and solid bass drones flying past at supersonic speed as insane tech FX rip the veryair asunder. Headed up by renowned bassmusic ambassador Baobinga, known for his massive releases on Soul Jazz (with Tayo & Spyda) and Trouble & Bass (with Detroit’s DJ Nasty), as well as his wide-ranging DJ sets across the globe (including an appearance at Fabric’s 10th Birthday this October), the first release on Build sees Baobinga joined by regular partner in crime I.D. (Boka, Mata-Syn, Cool & Deadly). Limited Edition Purple Vinyl. Scratcha DVA is not just the charismatic host of Rinse Fm’s breakfast show, he’s one of the UK’s most accomplished producers. An associate of Terror Danjah from the late 90′s, DVA supplied dubs to Dj Slimzee during grimes early days and has produced for luminaries of the scene like Wiley, Trim, Chipmunk, Tinchy Stryder and more. More recently Scratcha has collaborated with beacons of the UK Funky scene like Roska, Cooly G, D-Malice and more while still releasing grime anthems like ‘Nasty Nasty Nasty’ and ‘Bullet Ago Fly’. The Jelly Roll Ep has already gained support from Marcus Nasty, Geeneus, Joker, Kode 9, Cooly G, Sinden and more. Built around a super-synthetic bassline its title track sqirms and shakes around stinging snares whilst ‘Guro Triba’ is a little on the more conventional side of House & Funky. Remixes comes from True Tigers Sukh Knight, who gives Nasty Nasty Nasty the creeping dubstep treatment, whilst Funky don Roska gives it his unique “Kicks and Snares” midas touch.
