Dom & Roland presents “The Big Bang LP”

Posted 31 August 2011 | By | Categories: news, tracks, video | No Comments

Dom of Dom & Roland needs no introduction. With his Roland sampler, he has been at the apex of drum and bass since the mid 90ʻs. One of the original pioneers of the techstep sound. NME once called him the George Lucas of the scene, due to his unfaltering ability to provide the listener with an auralʼgasm of epic soundscapes inspired by the visuals of a thousand sci-fi movies.

The Big Bang will be his fifth album and builds upon a sturdy framework of singles, albums and remixes going right back to when he was signed to Moving Shadow with itʼs now legendary cult status. His previous album credits read like a whoʼs who of electronic music and have featured collaborations with creative masterminds like Optical, Matrix, Hive, Rob Playford, Noisia and Amon Tobin.

Dom & Roland

This album being completely solo is a departure from his previous four. In Domʼs own words “Apart from being something Iʼve never done before, I wanted to get back to what I originally loved about DnB back in the late 90ʼs and turn it into something more modern whilst retaining full control of the creation myself. I was also interested to see if there was still a place for the kind of dirty funk that Iʼm into in todays ultra clean digital world” So what do you get? “Epic Lucusʼesque monsters” Flux and Enforced , “Tearouts” 2097 and Paralax, “Steppers” Cigars n Money and Terminate , “Neurofunkin” Nostradamus, Capsicum and Footnotes, “Rollers” Dune and Raptor and not forgetting a Dom trademark “Vocal Amen Smasher” Electric Smile VIP. It covers all bases of the music that has made Dom what he is today and if todays current big name DJʼs are to be believed, it will be remembered as one of his best. You only have to search for the youtube video of DJ Marky “broking out” to Enforced which he played as his last tune at Global Gathering this year to see the impact this album will have this year and for the years to come.

DETAIL007 – Lynx, Malibu & Hellrazor / Lynx & Hellrazor – Sleazy / Taboo – 12″ Vinyl
Detail 007 sees Lynx joined by fellow studio partner Hellrazor and co writer of the classic Mariachi track Malibu. Sleazy, the A side is a pure filthy dirty dnb porn track, with sliding greased up basses, nasty crunched up beat and porn vocals for good measure! Taboo is on a moody tribal vibe, akin to Lynx’s previous hit Shaku. Weird tribal vocals and percussion scatter the track and build up to the crescendo of the second drop which sounds huge in a club! As supported by Hype, Shy FX, Marcus Intalex, Marky, John B, Lenzman and Scrillex!!

KOKESHI006 – Bulb – Tenderness – 12″ Vinyl
Limited Pink Vinyl!. Kokeshi changes the tempo this time offering two tunes from Russia’s Bulb. ‘Tenderness’ comes with an 80s Vangelis vibe that offers the emotional aesthetic that Kokeshi is known for. With its non 2 step beats it won’t be recognisable as drum’n'bass despite having the same tempo as most d’n'b tunes. For the DJ’s, catch the flip side which offers a dance-floor friendly yet uber deep feel from the d’n'b tune ‘Heartless’.

SYMM007 – Break & Die / Need For Mirrors – Slow Down VIP / Skip Rope – 12″ Vinyl
Break & Die’s ‘Slow Down’ is undoubtedly one of the most played and best loved drum & bass tunes of the past 12 months, and following on from the enormous success that was Break’s 2nd album ‘Resistance’. Symmetry Recordings returns with a special VIP mix of the track, backed with a debut on the label for Need For Mirrors. The long anticipated ‘Slow Down’ VIP has everything we loved about the original with a whole lot more. With its unbeatable intro, breaking into the familiar deep and dark roller, there is something about this tune that others are yet to touch upon. The vocals guide the way accompanied by a heavier take on the drums that provides a new and exciting alternative. On the flip is ‘Skip Rope’ by Need For Mirrors (Mosus & HLZ), taking depth of bass to a new level. The clean-cut bassline keeps the energy high and fast paced, while the simple yet effective use of drums makes the feet bounce. Creating anticipation with dark and atmospheric interludes with tech-tribal fx create an almost mystic mood – this is Drum & Bass wizardry at its best. The high expectations for the return of Break’s Symmetry label have unquestionably been met. Watch out for release number 8 coming soon…

New D&B Promos

SECOPS017 – Andy Skopes & Mr Joseph – Call To Arms / Trash Talk – 12″ Vinyl
Solid white Vinyl. I’m honoured to announce the first UK based act is releasing on Secret operations. The duo has been working on music for some time now, but it wasn’t until recently it caught my attention. Mr Joseph is running his night “Fizzy” in London, and had some recent releases out making his name recognised in the drum & bass scene. A. Call To Arms Call to arms is a heavy breaks based track, with nice ethereal strings. The track starts with a nice string intro and female vocal samples, and then explodes in a shuffled breakbeat, reese-bass inferno. AA. Trash Talk This track is a bit different for secret operations, but it has a feel that i think is suitable for the label. The track starts with a static beat and a nice chord, then it switches to growling bassline and subtle but effective percussion.

NOPPALP001 – Tes La Rok – Them LP – 12″ Vinyl x 3
Tes La Rok’s highly anticipated debut album entitled ‘Them’ will finally see the light of day. Tes La Rok made his name in dubstep circles in 2007 with the massive “Round The World Girls Remix” which immediately positioned him as one of the most exciting artists and definitely one to watch. Anthem releases such as ‘Under The Dancing Feet’ remix for Clouds, ‘Wikidness Remix’ for Mungo’s Hi-Fi, and ‘Up In The Vip / Living Fire’ on Dub Police were soon followed by bookings at DMZ in Brixton and dubstep mecca FWD>> at Plastic People. ‘Them’ features thirteen tracks engineered with precision and care. ‘Invasion’ sets the album off in a deep and minimal flavour followed by the dark and abyssal ‘Earth’. The album title track ‘Them’ mixes techno flavours with tribal percussions and futuristic basslines. ‘Murda’ takes the sound back to the year 2006 which is the year when it was originally composed and luckily recovered from a destroyed hard drive! ‘Virus’ is a dark mutated sci-fi roller followed by ‘You & I’, the track that has been causing waves all over the world. Tes gives a taste of his old junglist roots on 140bpm amen roller ‘Secrets’ and as a follow-up tests his hands on hip hop vibes in ‘Malfunction’. ‘Tribal Ting’ and ‘Spiritual Ting’ showcase the more known Tes La Rok dubwise production and his profound love to dig dub stepper sounds. ‘What’ and ‘From The Shadows’ combine deep & beautiful atmospheres with post-garage drums patterns and subheavy basslines. To bring the album to a finale and give a hint of the future, ‘Turn It Up’ brings in chopped vocals and raw 808 bass. Coming from the land of three months of nearly zero sunlight it is by no means a surprise that this album is deep, dark and futuristic. From the music to the artwork there’s a touch of Bladerunner and Alien. These tracks are being championed by the main players such as Distance, N-Type, Kryptic, Minds, Desto, Pinch, Addison Groove and Cyrus.

Dreadnought is the collaborative project between Untold (Hemlock / Hessle Audio) and Samuel Chase (Samuel and the Dragon). The duo’s debut release is the vinyl only ‘Caroline EP’, which features four tracks that mark the genesis of Dreadnought as well as a taster of how the pair’s sound is developing. The individually numbered vinyl-only EP is being pressed in a limited run – there will be no repress. The track ‘Meteorite’ was recently named X-Posure Hot One by Xfm’s John Kennedy with further support coming from Huw Stephens and Mary Anne Hobbs.

BRK020 – Erra – Stax / Jookup – 12″ Vinyl
Berkane Sol present the vinyl debut of Erra. Erra comes bursting through your speakers with a riot of tuff drums and sweet melody – its like the sound of someone who’s rinsed their console so much that its gone way beyond high scores and into a full on system meltdown. ‘Stax’ starts out with a dreamy intro which leads into the rudest of wake up calls – a proper peak-time jackin’ synth stab married to a smartly evolved bassline, all driven by concussive garage flavoured rhythms. ‘Jookup’ on the flip again demonstrates Erra’s irresistible talent for blending blissful keys with hectic dancefloor moments, this time really bringing the sickly grime synths to the front, with some cute but disembodied vocals punctuating the action. The 12” follows up Erra’s popular L2S digital release ‘Cake Music’, and neatly shows off this young producers rapid development. These tracks have been getting love from people such as: Rod Azlan (Dub Police), Autechre, Al Tourettes (Applepips), Mary Anne Hobbs, Brackles (Rinse FM), N Type (Wheel and Deal), DJ Flight (1 Xtra), Spamchop (Wigflex), 2562 (Tectonic), Shortstuff (Ramp), Cardopusher (Hyperdub), Martyn (3024), Martin Kemp (Blunted Robots), Elgato (Hessle Audio), Selector dub U (Hotflush), Skipple (Sub FM), West Norwood Cassette Library (Teal), King Thing (Fortified)

Screwloose is all about gripping basslines that tear dance floors apart. This release features a wonderfully original D&B track by LoKo along with a beast of remix by KOAN Sound. What makes this a great release is the fact that the two tracks are a real contrast, both at very different tempos and styles. Both tracks are pushing D&B/Dubstep/Bass music forward.

PFND002 – Rob Sparx – Walk On / Walk On (PropaTingz Remix) – 12″ Vinyl
Profound Audio follows up their debut release with this absolutely smashing single from heavyweights, Rob Sparx and PropaTingz. Covering both ends of the spectrum from the original to its epic remix, ‘Walk On’ has been making waves across the globe and is finally available to the masses. Guaranteed to mash up the dance, this is a must-have record for 2011! A. Rob Sparx – Walk On – Rob Sparx’s original mix kicks off with a funky 2-Step riddim, layered with soulful guitar licks, penetrating synths and some extra deep bass to get you moving. The tune progresses into a super-funky, filtered disco beat leading into a high-energy buildup that will have any crowd going nuts. The drop combines beautiful haunting vocals, brain-rattling bass and sexy synth stabs in a ‘purple’ fashion that has already made an impact on dancefloors worldwide. Not to be taken lightly, this one’s a heavy-hitter and still maintains its class! AA. Rob Sparx – Walk On (PropaTingz Remix) – Doing what he does best, badman PropaTingz comes extra hard with this slamming remix, completely flipping the original tune into a crushing dancefloor anthem. The remix starts with an eerie atmospheric intro of arpeggiating strings, lush pads and a glitched-out take on the original vocal, wasting no time in taking you to the build-up. The drop is absolutely insane, hitting you in the face with a switch-up of extra fat half-time and double-time drums and a west coast G-funk lead all sitting under PropaTingz’s disgusting signature basslines. A prime-time dancefloor smasher – handle with caution!

SLUDGE015 – Trick Or Treat – Bad Bwoy Tune – 12″ Vinyl
So, your bowels have just about started functioning properly and the world has finally stopped vibrating after the last bass onslaught from the Sludge camp. It’s going to require gonads of steel to whack up the volume on this latest beast, but we know you never lost your hardcore. Nevertheless, as we’re a caring bunch at Sludge HQ, we feel obliged to warn in advance that this latest slab of dubstep pressure from Trick or Treat is the sort of big tuna that might leave some needing a job lot of nappies and a year off work to recover. Bad Bwoy Toon does exactly what it says on the tin. Kicking off with old skool style rave stabs and some familiar sampling action, you might be forgiven for thinking that you’ve take the rave DeLorean for a spin and wound up back in ’89. That is, until the drop when the searing bassline kicks in and catapults you back to the future with a sub that has the potential to cause chest implosions from a mile away. Trust us when we tell you that this firing track is going to be turning dance floors into casualty wards across the land throughout the summer. Heavy! Over on the flip of this monster package is Hype Funk. The instantly recognisable intro will prick up your ears and pull you in before skippy beats, chopped up samples and earth shattering bass finish you off. It’s the kind of banger that might have even the residents of the local cemetery raving in their coffins. An essential floorfiller this, and a tune that will almost certainly get you laid each and every time you decide to unleash it on the masses.

Human Imprint, North America’s respected drum and bass label, is excited to present the HUMAN CHEMISTRY EP by Milwaukee- based producer trio Gein whose reputation for a sound is as mental as the infamous Wisconsin serial killer is legend. In the tradition of revered UK dnb producer Technical Itch, Gein ( Abel Gein aka Adam, and Saint Gein aka Ronnie) articulates the twisted reaches of the human soul with bold originality. Human Imprint head honcho Dieselboy enthuses “Gein has cultivated a truly unique, homegrown, North American techno grime sound — nasty!” “Ghetto Dope” — explosive dnb rooted in an old school hip-hop vibe — is a collaboration with respected Atlanta producer/musician Mayhem. The track’s laser precise hard tech thrust fused with Gein’s bloodcurdling sickness make “Ghetto Dope” pure dance floor crack. Gein joins forces on “6 Feet” with acclaimed Brooklyn producers Silent Killer and Breaker, with a wicked sound that combines inpspiration from military movies, hard east coast hip-hop and a form of hardcore called ‘screamo’. The track is well known for its huge bombastic intro that morphs into wave after wave of raw drum and bass pressure.. “Ghetto Dope” and “6 Feet” are enjoying support from global tastemakers including DJ Hype, TeeBee, Counterstrike, Evol Intent, and SPKTRM. PRODUCT009    Turn The Page / Chamber – Craggz & Parallel    Product Recordings 12″ Vinyl
Two of D&B’s most respected characters, Craggz & Parallel, and it couldn’t have come a moment too soon. Since releasing their debut ‘Northern Soul’ LP on Valve back in 2006 the pair have stepped back, regrouped and are now ready to come full force with a brand new super-fresh sound that’s sure to raise heads throughout the scene. Drawing on influences from electronic music past and present from early techno sounds, 80’s synth-pop through to a myriad of contemporary dance music genres, Craggz & Parallel have created a truly unique and daring album sure to quench the most discerning and dance floor tastes whilst challenging the more traditional drum and bass album ideals. Even reverting back to analogue production techniques to combine with the modern creates an experience unlike any other around today so keep you ears open for the genius new sounds of Craggz & Parallel. The first Vinyl 12” features Turn The Page & Chamber Kicking off in fine style the title track opens with an epic intro awash with crooked bottle- nose FXand pads that mesmerize. Creeping bass tones follow until the drop into a massive hard-stepping slice of menacing technoid D&B that’s sure to bring out the screw-face in all who hear it. Then doing things a little differently, ‘Chamber’ features a stripped back approach that works a nasty bass-wave riff into a seriously intense slice of dark drum and bass. One for the more adventurous dance floors. “I don’t really say things like this much, but Craggz & Parallel are about to flip D&B on its head…” Breakage “Analogue synths, drum machines & +170bpm = Top album. C&P FTW!!” dBridge “Craggz & Parallel have taken a bold step towards a much deeper, more mature and personal sound; locking themselves away for 2 years has resulted in a truly inspirational album that will turn a lot of heads. One of the best releases in 2010 by some way, this definitely gets the Flight seal of approval.” DJ Flight

ATLAS004 Useless / Relentless – Total Science, S.P.Y & DJ Lee Atlas Recordings 12″ Vinyl
Atlas Recordings is the brainchild of the legendary DJ Lee. Conceived in 2002 and set up as a platform for his burgeoning production output, it garnered a devoted following from the very first release, the huge ‘Udon / Double Down’ from Lee himself and long time cohort D.Kay. With a bulging DJ diary, Lee lacked both the time and energy needed to really give it the care and attention it needed and Atlas sadly closed its doors just a year later on release number three. Fast forward to 2010 however and Atlas is making a comeback with Lee vowing to make it a success again this time round. ATLAS004, the first release of the relaunch, is from Lee, fellow Oxfordians Total Science and current d&b hot property S.P.Y, with two huge dancefloor tracks, – Relentless’ b/w ‘Useless’. These tunes have been getting battered by the select few DJ’s lucky enough to have a copy and have been causing carnage in clubs across the world. They have created a buzz about Atlas not seen since the first release and with plenty more music in the pipeline, your sure to be hearing a lot more from Lee and his Atlas imprint in the near future….

APHA004 The Limit / Get Lost – Fracture And Neptune Astrophonica 12″ Vinyl
Good evening Planet Earth… Citizens of Earth origin or any other planet in the Solar System…Fracture & Neptune are proud to present the fourth installment of their galactic phonographic recordings imprint: The Limit/Get Lost. This latest release continues the Astrophonica journey and futher defines the label’s signature sound, somewhere between a funk band lost in space and a warehouse rave in East London. This release is set to be the label’s biggest yet with it getting support from pretty much every trend setting DJ out there including DJ Storm, DJ Bailey, DJ Teebee, Ulterior Motive, Doc Scott, Fabio and many, many more. The Limit was featured on Zero T’s Fabric Live 52 and caused a stir instantly with it’s simple and dancefloor devastating vibes, so devastating in fact that it has been heralded as ‘the tune of sun & bass 2010′ by Jubei from Metalheadz…. Astrophonica has now been placed firmly on the d&b map. A-Side – The Limit dispatches us on a time-travelling mission, a return to the planet of dark warehouses, where the atmosphere is made up of dense angsty drum-driven paranoia and raging bass-bin winds that are strong enough to take your skin clean off. Currently featuring on Fabric Live 52 by Zero T, The Limit is set to be the biggest release on the label to date, and is sure to grace many an emergency escape pod this Autumn. AA-Side – Get Lost sees an unsuspecting funk drummer trapped in tractor beam bleeps, almost escaping with the help of a snare- gun, before being sent hurtling back into the reverbisphere in classic style, as oncoming lazer-bass stabs of Death Star proportions seal the track’s fate, hauling it into the brocking bay. One for the sample and break spotters, Get Lost promises a deeper voyage to inner space than its vinyl cohabitant, making APHA004 rewarding bounty for any jet-setting bass hunter.

SBLFLTD001   The Key (Atlantic Connection Remix) – Lukeino Ft. Paulie Rhyme / Mutt Sublife Recordings 12″ Vinyl
Sublife steps up for it’s first vinyl release with a hard hitting yet super smooth dancefloor friendly number. Atlantic Connection delivers a nice dubby remix to ‘The Key’ by Lukeino & featuring Paulie Rhyme. Deep subs and dubbed out vocal bits get the vibe moving as the beats and breaks roll out some choice rhythms. Be ready for some hands in the air when this one drops.. In the jungle, jungle, jungle! The flip side of this plate offers another heater for the floor with ‘Ruby Sky’ by Mutt, Calculon & Austin Speed. This tune starts out with a deceptively laid back and minimal intro with some fresh sound design and nice deep vibes. When it drops it hits tough with super low subs and running beats along with some choice vocal stabs and creative use of fx. This release has already received early DJ support from The Bachelors of Science, Crissy Criss, Submorphics, Sinistarr & Stunna amongst others.

NSDX006    Die For You Remixes – Cutline    Never Say Die Records 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy promo. There aren’t many acts working in electronic music who can say they’ve had their music played by both trance demi-god Paul Van Dyke and drum & bass don Andy C in the space of a month. But Cutline can. The Bristol-based duo are at the forefront of a new breed of multi-genre dance acts, applying their no-nonsense, bass-heavy approach to everything from dubstep to D&B to house. After a year that’s seen Cutline remix The Qemists, J Majik & Wickaman, Nick Thayer and Mindflow (the latter of which smacked into the Beatport charts at #3), Cutline are now finally releasing their debut solo release for Never Say Die. ‘Die For You’ sees the duo in electro-house mood, complete with flowing piano chords, bleeping synths, heavily processed vocals and, of course, a drop that’s filthier than a 5am-kebab. It’s just another example of Cutline’s ability to turn their hand to almost any genre and absolutely smash it. Backed by remixes from dubstep and D&B masters Mindflow and Shock One, this latest release from Never Say Die is an impressively broad demonstration of the sounds and trends that are currently ripping club land apart.

DVA006    Dis Boy (DVA’s Hi Emotions Remix) – Cooly G / Scratcha DVA    DVA Music 12″ Vinyl
The label’s sixth release is no exception. DVA’s remix of Cooly G’s ‘Dis Boy’ turns an already seductive track into a spaced-out dream: in the place of Cooly’s stripped down production it’s got all the psychedelic electronic subtleties and twists you might expect to hear in a Berlin techno tune, but actually brings her sophisticated vocal melodies more to the fore than the original version. The rhythm’s syncopations, meanwhile, move along in lazy leaps as if dancing in lowered gravity. Bok Bok and L-Vis 1990 perform a similar job of total transformation on DVA’s own ‘Jelly Roll’. They play the original’s cheeky, cheery melody backwards, forwards, sideways and upside-down, bouncing it off itself in a hall of audio mirrors and allowing glassy synths to slide between the beats and bass. It’s a strange, slightly sinister and intoxicating reworking – one to get lost in. Bonus track ’32Da4′ is something else entirely; as you may guess from the title it’s in 3 time – a bizarre, slithering dubstep waltz that flows out of the speakers and around itself in unique style. Lesser producers would build whole movements on such an innovative tune, but for DVA it’s just another step in a compelling musical evolution.

CHST010 7 Breaths / Fear – Tunnidge Chestplate 12″ Vinyl
The landmark tenth release on Distance’s almighty Chestplate imprint sees the unprecedented addition of a brand new artist to the label. South London’s Tunnidge steps up and weighs in with two tracks packing equal amounts of bass pressure, gnarl and darkness. Two certified suckerpunches on wax. Distance has been supporting Tunnidge’s beats in his sets for a while, so fans will already be familiar with his brand of ferocious and driven bass music. His sound fits perfectly into the aesthetic Distance has created with the previous nine releases of his own productions, collaborations and remixes. These tracks have the definitive dubstep sound, with space and snare smack and maximum impact. 7Breaths is a peak time stomper, which will register on the Richter scale and make cracks appear on the dancefloor. On the flip, Fear is a masterclass in the use of sampled dialogue to full affect. Its ambient intro preludes a heavy widescreen dubstep experience, executed to perfection. These tracks make you realise that most dubstep newcomers are barely out of their nappies compared to Tunnidge. With major DJ support from the likes of Pinch, Ntype, Loefah, Cyrus, Joe Nice and 12th Planet, it’s obvious that dubstep DJs and fans will see this as a record that quite simply must be bagged and Tunnidge is a name to hold up alongside the very best the scene has to offer.

LOCA001    In A Hole / In The Dark – Spherix    Lowercase Music 12″ Vinyl
Having already released tunes for some of the scene’s most respected record labels (Immerse, Aquatic Lab, Bare Dubs, Sub continental Dub) and earned support from big hitters like Ramadanman, Peverelist and Scuba, Spherix steps up on his own lowercase imprint with ‘In a Hole’ and ‘In the Dark’. Based in Australia and run in collaboration with Kwality (‘Look Back’ on Tube10), lowercase is focussed on stretching the dubstep and techno boundaries while casting an eye on further horizons than just the dancefloor. ‘In a Hole’ and ‘In the Dark’ both highlight Spherix’s solid understanding of depth and masterful touch for abstract rhythms that are impossible to ignore. Built around cavernous stabs, crunchy drums and spacious, swooping subs, the effect is two tracks that suck you into their own murky planet. LOCA001 also features an exclusive vinyl-only locked groove on the flip, illustrating just why Spherix has earned a reputation as an innovator and hints at the future of the lowercase label.

EX7005    Heavy Artillery ft. Messinian / Reploid – Excision & Downlink    EX7 12″ Vinyl
Without doubt Excision and his Rottun Recordings label have been one of the dubstep success stories of the last few years. From humble beginnings in British Columbia, Canada, to a worldwide fanbase comprised of thousands upon thousands of fans. Anyone who witnessed Excision destroy dancefloors in Paris, London, Bristol, Manchester and a host of other European cities on his recent tour will understand the effect his music is having around the world. EX7 is Rottun’s sister label, and was home to one of Excision’s most recognisable hits yet, the infamous ‘Swagga’ (produced alongside Datsik). Here Excision teams up with another member of the Rottun camp to create two incredible pieces of filthy dubstep. ‘Heavy Artillery’ features Messinian, one of the USA’s most well known D&B and dubstep MCs. Taking the formula of using hip hop samples and turning it on its head with powerful original vocals that ignite the dance alongside some West Coast lead lines, this one is heavy on the hip!
Flip over and the gruesome twosome team up once more on ‘Reploid’, a gurgling bassline-led track complete with grinding syncopated synths and pounding beats. Both tracks featured heavily in Excision’s sets during his recent EU/UK tour and will no doubt be flying off the shelves this winter.

ARI205    Shanker – Cessman vs Joe Ariwa    Arwiwa 12″ Vinyl
Cessman has teamed up with Mad Professor’s legendary record label Ariwa to launch Dubliminal in fine style. July 2010 sees the long-awaited release of Cessman and Joe Ariwa’s collaboration 12′′ vinyl featuring four quality tracks – two from each producer. Cessman’s half of the 12′′ brings two very different heavyweight dubstep tracks – “Shanker” is a heavy-hitting rhythm which lives up to its name and causes serious bodily damage on the dance floor, while ”Emperor Selassie I” brings a more cinematic, dark, brooding rhythm track to the table with a haunting melody lurking in the background. Joe Ariwa’s side features “Wicked Man”, a new-school dub/dubstep crossover track which is truly next level. Featuring co-production from The Trixsters and the vocal talents of the worldwide performer Queen Omega. With an opening horn line, filter sweeps galore, a bassline reminiscent of King Tubby’s electronic outings, and classic Ariwa-style dub production a-plenty on this track, it couldn’t have been made by anyone except the son of Mad Professor! “Razor Sharp Dub” is the instrumental dub version of “Wicked Man” which will provide you with another chance to appreciate Joe Ariwa’s fine production skills and the new emerging dubstep/dub crossover sound of which this record is pioneering.

RAT039    Life – Tony Anthem and Axl Ender feat. Darry Dee & Skibadee    Rat Records 12″ Vinyl
Tony Anthem and Axl Ender’s Life took the dubstep world by storm earlier this year when it dropped on Rat Records’ sister label, Sludge. Now this full-′′‐on club anthem is back with a fresh package of remixes for all types of dancefloor. First up, Specimen A make with a remix that’s full of driving, street-′′‐smart booty flavour, making full use of Darry Dee and Skibadee’s firing vocals from the original, but adding some serious breakbeat attitude. Watch how the drums switch up for the second half‐this is next level business. There’s also a radio edit thrown into the package for good measure. Next, London producer Erb & Dub takes things in a drum and bass direction, feeding breakneck drums, wobble bass and searing synths into the mix for a rapturous end-′′‐of-′′‐ night floor filler. Finally, Florida badman Dustin Hulton takes things into full-on euphoria with sublime synth work andepic keys, before hitting us with the bass nfor maximum impact in the club. This is a genuinely world class remix package of one of the standout tracks of the year, in any genre. Whatever your flavour, make sure it’s part of your life.

esoteric012
ESOTERIC012 Esoterica – Nucleus & Paradox Esoteric Music 12″ Vinyl
Nucleus & Paradox are on a mission to relay the 90’s grit of UK Jungle back into today’s ever-digital sound with every Esoteric release and just when you thought ‘L.S.D Jazz’ (ESO 11) had set the jungle benchmark the duo unleash ‘Esoterica’ with outstanding effect. Rolling RARE funk breaks, deep low subs, carefully placed breakbeat flicks and switches between Dancehall vocals ooze DnB experience from the first few seconds. Listen, learn and enjoy !! On the flip the production duo deliver the soulful ‘Illuminism’ which could easily be an instramental hiphop track if not for the 175 bpm tempo. Double bass pulls, xylophones and chords take centre stage and relay a sparse mood coupled with Nucleus and Paradox’s shuffling breakwork making a great contrast to the flip’s Esoterica. Just like the outer label artwork states, lets ‘KEEP JUNGLE ALIVE’.

SICK007 Breath Of Steel / First Cosmic – Lucio De Rimanez / Gancher Future Sickness Records 12″ Vinyl
Prepare yourself for two brand new, dark and relentless tracks on the seventh release of Belgium based label Future Sickness. Breath of Steel by Lucio Di Rimanez is a techno influenced, stomping track with snares ready to slay an army of mechanical zombies and a haunting synth melody that sounds like it was recorded in the middle of the factory in which they were build. The first deceiving tones of Gancher’s First Cosmic give you only moments to heal. Your hiding place isn’t safe for long though and before you know what’s going on, an onslaught of screaming stabs, distorted kicks and some very aggressive breakbeats drop hard and keep going until there is nothing left. This is not a record for the faint hearted but it is highly recommended for those who never leave the house without a sawn-off shotgun and a few hand grenades… just in case.

New D ‘n’ B PROMOS

nonplus003
NONPLUS003 Porcelain – ASC Nonplus Records 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. Instra:mental welcome a new addition to the Nonplus+ camp who goes by the name of ASC. This producer is by no means new to making music, but recently his productions have become an essential addition to dBridge & Instra:mental’s Autonomic podcast series and also frequents their club sets.
a) ASC ‘Porcelain’ is a perfect illustration as to why Instra:mental have been paying ASC’s music so much attention. It begins with a glitchy yet groove-laden beat coupled with dramatic piano and fx stabs, then fills out with a warm drawing sub bass and smooth atmospheres. As the track progresses and you think it’s reached its climax, ASC cleverly layers an almost oriental sounding percussion stab to accompany the bass line and picks up the track to another level. This track is a prime example of being able to express the utmost with the minimum.
aa) ASC ‘Focus Inwards’ is the deeper side of this 12” and as the title suggests, takes you on a journey into yourself. Fully charged with progressive chords and melodies alongside electric sounding drum fills and percussion, the arrangement, musical content and pure elegance of this track give us an insight into ASC’s compositional abilities and potential for the future.

AA ASC – Focus Inwards

BCHEM001 Bad Chemistry / Fear – Gein Bad Chemistry 12″ Vinyl
“Man will begin to recover the moment he takes art as serious as physics, chemistry, or money”
The wait is finally over. With a mindset of D.I.Y. and a vision of the future, drum and bass producers GEIN unleash their new record label BAD CHEMISTRY RECORDINGS on the world’s ears. And with five years of production credit, as well as 5 years of record label management with HABIT RECORDINGS, the trio is set to stir up the drum and bass scene with a conceptual label that defies people’s set standards. With Bad Chemistry, GEIN is turning heads all across the board with collaborations you would come to expect, never expect, as well as new solo material that breaks stereotypes. And with support from major players in the drum and bass world, the hype is growing daily. The first release is the fitting “Bad Chemistry” produced by GEIN, backed with “Fear” with additional production by newcomers Biolysis. “Bad Chemistry” is a neurotic techy monster that is definitely made for the dancefloor, with a demented breakdown that keeps the crowds screaming for more. “Fear” is what happens when evil meets futurism, with heavy beats and sinister basslines. And this is just the beginning. With forthcoming collaborations with Tech Itch & Jakes, The Chosen, Audio, Mayhem, The Sect, SPKTRM, Counterstrike, Cooh, as well as solo tracks from GEIN, SPKTRM, Demo & Ewun, and more, Bad Chemistry Recordings is ready to prove to the world that not all things can be explained… bad chemistry is good chemistry.

DW02 Jealous Eyes (Utah Jazz Remix) – Smooth DrumWise 12″ Vinyl
The second DrumWise release with a bit different flavour, brings what’s finest in drum and bass. Utah Jazz remix of Jealous Eyes is a proper liquid roller with catchy vocals and funky piano theme. After the intro, the bass lands deep in the groove, and builds a perfect connection with the rhythmic section. The Piano shortly moves away but soon comes back to create an unforgettable romantic mood. As in the first release Smooth’s colab was a bit darker. This time on the B side his own masterpiece is light and groovy. A Melodic intro with violins and smooth pads go into a heavy rhythmic conjunction. After the breakdown the story continues with a perfect ‘disco’ build-up and finalise in a passionate synergy of beats and melodies.

runtimecd001
RUNTIMECD001 Messages from the Void – Elemental Runtime Records CD x 2
Elemental’s imminent debut LP “Messages from the Void” is a collection of work from the last four years, spanning a range of styles, made using a combination of new and old technologies, including Elemental’s beloved modular synthesizer. He is proud to be able to present it to the world – a favour returned for all of the amazing music that has touched him throughout his years as a music listener and raver. Elemental’s fresh take on the dubstep sound has got both scene stalwarts and eclectic tastemakers singing his praises. Blending components of acid house, Detroit techno, ‘golden age’ drum & bass, vintage dubwise and African rhythm, his sound is rich in texture and musical heritage, yet remains eminently danceable. The North London based producer – Adam Wilson to his friends – started dabbling with production in 1994 with a Roland D5 and Atari ST while he was still at school. Soon after he invested in an Akai S2000 sampler, bought a PC, and the rest, as they say, is history. In the nineties he predominantly focused on making drum and bass and experimental electronica, eventually putting out his first drum and bass release as a white label off his own back. A few years later, together with schoolmate Dario Swade, they formed the breakbeat garage duo Elemental & 3D, releasing on their own label Runtime Records in 2002. A couple of years later after some time abroad, Elemental caught the likes of Search & Destroy on Rinse FM and instantly found the sound he had been looking for: dark, heavy, syncopated beats and bass. Since 2004, Elemental has been focused on bringing his newly developed sound to the masses. Combining dubbed out dirty bass lines with hypnotising rhythms, he has released on labels such as Destructive, Hotflush, Pitch Black, Halo Beats, and his own imprint Runtime, with his seminal track “Soulfire” one of the highlights on Tayo’s Fabriclive mix CD. He was officially the first person to do a live dubstep performance, mixing up and dubbing components of his productions using Ableton Live to rapturous audiences across the world: no set is ever the same twice.

New Dubstep Releases

krkn010
KRKN010 Work Dat Box – Jaybird Kraken Recordings 12″ Vinyl
Kraken are rolling again, with their second release in as many weeks (Check out KRKN009), and it’s good to have the Denmark based don’s back! Very little is known about A-side artist and LA resident Jaybird, but i’m sure plenty of people will be on the hunt for info after this little number drops. Absolutely relentless, crushing dubstep music, a refreshingly nasty little number reminiscent in atmosphere to one of Kraken’s earliest releases ‘Eye Of The Demon’ by Wolfman (JSL), this tune is currently tearing up clubs worldwide, with support from 2000F and notably featuring on Hatcha & Crazy D’s Kiss FM radio show, you’re gunna love this one! Legendary Kraken artist JSL pops up on the flip with a brand new beat, kept relatively under wraps this one comes out of nowhere and smacks is straight round the chops like Kimbo Slice! Act quickly on this one, it won’t last.

RNG008 Sinners / Goblin – Jonnny Clark Vs Mala / Coki Ringo Records 12″ Vinyl
Please note we have a limited supply! Ringo Records, the outward spew of the legendary Transition Studios, snug in the heart of dubstep territory, confound the unsuspecting public with more heavyweight material from the scene’s core artists. Mala re-rubs a Johnny Clarke classic with typical panache; reverential dub-wise handling invested with bass technology and infused with Rasta teachings. Fellow Digital Mystik Coki provides a coarse counterpoint with ‘Goblin’, a ‘Spongebob part 2′, with ferocious synth action that few, if any, can better.

“Two artists from Portugal show how dubstep’s mongrelinfluence continues its inexorable global spread, catalysinghybridisation between different genres wherever it goes… These tracks… recall early Chicago house, but where Mr Gasparov kneels to the churchy, upward-reaching side of the sound, Octa Push gets down and sweaty in the most profane, relentlessly jacking way.”Joe Muggs, The Wire
“‘1975’ is a woozy piece of two-step infused house that gradually layers up over its length, from the sparsest of synthetic melodies to an eerie carnival of sampled voices and dizzying instrumental tessellation. ‘Ai Nadia’ kicks the reverse off in fine form, its tightly syncopated beat loaded with elements from a whole host of different genres – the propulsive skip of garage, funky’s tribal machinations and the grimey crunch of kuduro. It’s the best thing on here by a long way, …The fast and furious garage hybrid of ‘Laika Likes It’ wears its UK influences more overtly, a little bit of London attitude ensnared in its suggestive female vocals and bubbling subs.” Rory Gibb, Sonic Router.

DP032 International Roots (LD Remix) – Mungos Hi Fi Ft. Earl 16 Dub Police Records 12″ Vinyl
Returning to Dub Police after the massive success of ‘Peace In Our Culture’ (featured on part six of the ‘License To Thrill Series’) for his first single on the label, is South East London’s LD. Kicking things off is the sweet vibes of ‘International Roots’, with it’s smooth vocals, luscious pad stabs and LD’s signature rolling and driving beats, any fan of the usual heaviness from this man will most defiantly not be disappointed. Wicked vibes! On the flip LD goes all tribal on us, with the highly sought after ‘King Of Kong’, which has been gaining huge support from the likes of Caspa, Mala, Chef, N-Type, Benga & TheOthers to name a few. LD sets the scene with a jungle landscape, before the heavy tribal rhythms that lead the way for a drop that will get even the most stubborn of raversshaking their ass! An absolutely outstanding release from man like LD, and Dub Police yet again raising the bar in their quest of pushing good new music.

TOTTER022 Face Gets Splat EP – Stagga Rag and Bone 12″ Vinyl
We don’t really do remixes, but with the original ‘Sick As Sin’ smacking it, this rework smacks it even more. Carefully staying true to the original and not interfering with its initial blast, this version tweaks it just enough to bring you back to that point when this tune first dropped and you couldn’t play it enough. On the flip-side you have 2 utterly brand new bangers that each provide prime time ammunition in their own right. Face gets Splat embodies trademark Stagga production with the lyrical talents of Y Dot Tzer J Bone getting into a metaphorical battle with other MCs. While Tha Criss Gurge Supply pitches down a little and gives itself a haunting swagger all of it’s own. Stagga has an extensive background producing hip-hop through his involvement with Optimas Prime and off kilter act Dead Residents. His dubstep incarnations have appeared on Rossi B & Lucas label Rudeez, Berlin outlet Robox – Neotech and of course Rag & Bone. Strong support from Starkey, Raffertie, Rob Da Bank, RSD, Pirate Sound System, Kanji Kinetic, Chrome Kids and reviews due in IDJ, Mixmag and more to come. A video is currently being put together for Face Get Splat.

541416503045 Try Humanity (Zomby / Starkey Mixes) – The Brown Acid News 12″ Vinyl
Everything about this reminds us of the olden days, from the name Brown Acid to the posicore title (happy rave days dudes) to the fuzziness of the sample and, of course, the part where Zomby takes the band’s name literally and turns in a proper acid house track. The other day we were in Other Music and bought an old 808 State album we’d lost long ago. Thought twice about it at first—impulse buy?—but it still sounds as sick as it did in the Mesozoic period of our youth. Zomby makes no bones about his love for classic ’90s rave music, but when he feels like making tracks in the spirit of particular genres, they are never throwbacks, just the freshest improvements from an imaginative talent. Incidentally, the original is this sort of cabaret pop electro and barely a fragment remains in the remix, just how it should be.

New Dubstep Promos

runtimelp001
RUNTIMELP001 Messages from the Void – Elemental Runtime Records 12″ Vinyl x 3

Untold – Stop What You’re Doing (James Blake Remix) James Blake proves why he’s one of the most exciting and promising new prospects in UK bass music right now. CLDUB009 Coastal Dubs Part 1 – Ultrasound / Hizzle Guy Clandestine Cultivations 12″ Vinyl
The first in a series of Clandestine plates devoted to exposing the production talents of Brighton town. Presenting two producers destined to go a long way: Ultrasound and Hizzle Guy. Two very distinct takes on bass heavy 140bpm music, these tracks have been alternately blissing out and smashing up dancefloors around the world in recent months, so here they are for you to continue the trend. ULTRASOUND consist of two Brighton based DJ producers and a London based sound engineer. Between them these three have released a huge number of tracks across different genres over the years, DJ’d different styles of music in venues all over the shop, worked in record shops and are now behind the highly acclaimed “well rounded” label. For their first release as a production outfit Ultrasound have distilled Dubstep through a refined apparatus of trip-hop, soundsystem warmth, Berlin texture and sheer musical sensibility into something both unique and familiar. With big support from the leftfield of Dubstep and tastemakers like Belgiums Bunzero. HIZZLE GUY is a young Brighton based DJ who along with his Gangoon Dubz crew has taken Brighton by storm with his raw and instinctive DJ style and tunes. We really can’t overemphasize how much energy this guy has on the decks, and it transfers straight to his tunes. Dread is an absolute low slung monster of a tune in the rave, at once hype filled and drudgingly weighty, with a loping propulsion and gully vibe thats been sorely lacking from “dancefloor” dubstep of late. Think Slaughter Mob meets Cluekid and you’re part way there. Already getting big support from names like Sukh Knight and Afterdark.

New D ‘n’ B CD

noncd2
NONCD2 Big Skeleton – The Upbeats Non Vogue CD
If you’re The Upbeats, you never know when inspiration is going to hit, or leave you curled up on the floor with laughter-induced abdominal muscles pains. In this particular scenario, their inspiration was a whispered Brazilian ghetto story related to them by a friend. The story of the Caveraos (English translation: Big Skeleton), a super-tank full of Navy Seal trained Brazilian gang members known to terrorise the favelas of Rio De Janeiro, or on good days, distribute Nike sneakers and free cable. Sounds fucked up right?
Anyway, as you’ve probably gathered by now, The Upbeats were suitable taken with this story, and having already floated the idea of a haunted-house album, decided to title their third album Big Skeleton, out of homage to the Caveraos; and horror in general.

What the DJ’s are saying!

Marcus Intalex: “Two of the most innovative and versatile producers on todays scene. Whenever I get something new from these guys I instantly stop what I’m doing, knowing full well I am just about to hear something totally fresh.”

Dieselboy: “Once again redefining the future sound of neuro funk nastiness. Buy on sight!”

Ed Rush: “Everything these guys do demands immediate attention. Drop whatever you’re doing and go grab Big Skeleton… sick, sick, sick! They specialize in dance floor artillery of serious weight as we all know from their releases in the past. This album is no different and is a brilliant testimony to their talents. Also includes one of the best dubstep tunes I ever heard… Ship It!”

Be it the haunted click’n’bass soul of ‘Bones’ (featuring Ned Worboys of Harbour City Electric), the sub-grinding, stream-ofconsciousness narrative driven breakbeat insanity of ‘Carousel’ (featuring MC Kemo from Germany), their speaker-rupturing foray into dubstep on ‘Macabre’ (co-produced by the mysterious Crushington) or the drum’n’folk atmospherics of ‘Through The Night’ (featuring award-winning country singer Jess Chambers); Big Skeleton lives in equal balance between the headphone headspace and the mindset of the club, which is a rare and terrifyingly beautiful combination in drum’n’bass. And that’s not even touching on the collaborations with State of Mind or Japanese rapper Cardz. With Big Skeleton, The Upbeats wake the dead, and the whispered terror walks once again.
DON’T SAY WE DIDN’T WARN YOU.

1 The Upbeats – Big Skeleton
2 The Upbeats – Ki Ki Kai Kai (Feat. Cardz)
3 The Upbeats – Planet Earth (Feat. State Of Mind)
4 The Upbeats – Bones (Feat. Ned Worboys)
5 The Upbeats – Bury Your Head
6 The Upbeats – Under The Sky
7 The Upbeats – Carousel (Feat. Kemo)

nz010
NZ010 Stone Cold Killa – Soul Intent Samurai Music 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. Samurai Music celebrates it’s 10th release by taking apart the dancefloor with 2 surefire aural bombs from Nottinghams’ Soul Intent. ‘Stone Cold Killa’ grinds in with cavernous heavy breakbeats, while the tone of impending carnage is set with ice cold ambience. A brief pause for the “..you’re a Stone Cold Killer” vocal before the hideously twisted bass riff unwinds itself into a drop that has been known to evacuate glassware from surrounding surfaces in clubs with systems capable of facilitating this tunes full power. The ultimate opening tune we suggest you save this piece of dangerous weaponry for situations that call for the heaviest artillery possible. ‘Conflict’ recalls golden moments in the tech step era with militant stepping breaks and a savagely warped bassline that bounces around with gleeful menace. It’s blatantly obvious that Mr Soul Intent was on a serious mission of hurting dancefloors in the days these two bass heavy monsters were created. We are proud to celebrate our 10th release by sharing their might with the rest of the planet. DJ’s that saw the need to draw for true power have been people like Klute, State Of Mind, Bailey, Eveson, Randall, Kasra, Cern, Phobia, Bulletproof and many more besides…

BRD004 Diamonds Shine – Utopia Breed 12 Inches 12″ Vinyl
Approaching the 4th release, and with it’s catalogue of unique artists, the snowball effect is in full motion for Breed12inches. After recruiting Russian duo Utopia back onto their successive 12” with another big release, the Breed12inches camp have now seen all eyes drawn to them, following huge play and support by some of the scene’s major players. Breaking away from the moniker of ‘Lifted Music’s sister label’, it was only a matter of time before audiences and DJ’s perceived Breed to be a rising label in its own right, one they also hope will be around for a long time. With BRD005 already in the final stages, and a handful of global promo mixes lined up to coincide with the release, it really is up and up from here for Breed12inches. Utopia return to the main stage of Breed12inches, following the incredible success of BRD003. The Russian duo, minus a member but equally as strong, follow up with `Diamonds Shine’ and `Scan Me’ – two more dancefloor smashers. Consistantly played by the scenes biggest, and featured thoroughly in various promo mixes and podcasts, Utopia are slowly becoming a name on the lips of the scene. Available on 12″ and digitally MP3, BRD004 is an absolute must have.
DIAMONDS SHINE – Hailed as one of the most original sounding tracks to be released this year, Utopia combine an elegant glistening melody with rolling drums and a stomach churning sub. Think a revamped ’31 seconds’, with more electro influence and high energy – all combined with a distinct sound and a taste of Russian vodka, then your halfway there. Originality at its best.
SCAN ME – That trademark Utopia style is in full motion with ‘Scan Me’. Big beats, a catchy melody with a club-shaking low end, the B side is yet another demonstration as to why Utopia are being lined up as the next big production force within Drum and Bass. Glitches, intelligent edits and a stomping kick-snare combination complete a solid 12″ from Russia’s greatest export.

C4CUK008 Age Of Terror – Cause 4 Concern C4C Recordings 12″ Vinyl
It might have no military application, but that doesn’t stop Age of Terror from being a sonic weapon. 40 seconds to load and aim, 20 seconds to charge, and BOOM – bodies flying everywhere on the dancefloor. Driven by a dominant mid range riff and supported by energetic beats, this act of aural terror is typical c4c turning the screws to force confessions on the ‘floor. Scatter Brain – Simple hats and ominous pads are soon joined by percussive snippets and hellish bass overtones. The suspense ends just after a minute in whereupon the drop delivers a stark sonic image; choppy, fractured beats surround a raw bassline that sounds demonic. Will mess with your head just like the title says.

On the intro, Walk n Skank builds up with that classic dancehall feel to it accompanied by some pounding beats and classic Jah Screechy vocals which work you up to the breakdown. On this double A side Dj Devize & Shookz supply something which is just a phenomenal piece of music. NONVOGUE004 Big Skeleton LP (Vinyl Version) – The Upbeats Non Vogue 12″ Vinyl x 2
Finish copy. If you’re The Upbeats, you never know when inspiration is going to hit, or leave you curled up on the floor with laughterinduced abdominal muscles pains.

DON’T SAY WE DIDN’T WARN YOU.

a The Upbeats – Big Skeleton
b The Upbeats – Laser Crypt
c The Upbeats – Carousel (Feat. Kemo)

A: Electrosoul System — Ghost A long time stalwart of Camino Blue Recordings, Electrosoul System, returns once again fresh from work on his own “kos.mos” imprint and a whole host of other labels such as “Subtitles”, “Hospital” or “Red Mist”.”Ghost” brings back the trademark crisp production we know the Russian supremo for, creating for us here some of his deepest ever grooves. Smooth melodies cascade beautifully throughout, set to those all important dancefloor friendly beats. This one’s a keeper! AA: Pete Voyager — Long White Cloud’ Voyager makes a long awaited return to the drum & bass scene; with classics as “Hypersleep” or collaborations with DJ Rap under his belt not to mention his work for “Deejay Recordings”, “Lucky Spin” or on “Good Looking Records”, Pete Parsons is certainly no newcomer, he’s justbeen taking a break and is as fresh as ever. He brings his sound to”Camino Blue Recordings” for the first time with “Long White Cloud”, a track packed with a wonderful old school stepping break, smooth sub bass, glorious progressive keys and pads. lslp001
LSLP001 SPL LP – SPL Lost Soul Recordings 12″ Vinyl x 4
SPL spent the last 3 years spreading his reach into diverse genres of electronic music. He has opened new branches of the already successful Lost Soul label. He has built on his international success, raining bass down on the heads of unsuspecting clubbers and partygoers all over the world. Now SPL returns to the Drum and Bass fold and does not disappoint. SPL, aka Sam Pool, has created the perfect blend of illusion, reality, precision and chaos within his first solo LP. The self-titled ‘SPL’ LP either sweeps the listener into worlds built of light and mystery, or drags them into the depths of a bass-filled hell. Lost Soul’s first LP release, ‘SPL,’ is a daringly original take on hard and dark music. With 8 tracks creating a symphony of chemically fueled emotion, ebbing and flowing between aggression and release, it’s no wonder why there is already a buzz within the international community of producers and fans alike.
‘I want to return depth and focus to dark drum and bass and give people who are turned off by the formulaic horror of today’s dark music something that they can identify with’ —SPL—
‘Epic and brutal machine funk’ —Dieselboy—
‘The most refreshing thing I have heard this year… SPLendidly produced’ —Limewax—
‘SPL has outdone himself, presenting an album that has depth as well as danceability’ —The Panacea—
There is a feeling of digitally mechanized destruction to the art within tracks like ‘Run From the Feeling’ and ‘It Will Be Different,’ pushing the audience over the edge of what was thought possible with Drum and Bass. Or the driving and sometimes brash ‘Angels’ or ‘Distance’ which fools the listener into thinking something beautiful lies beneath, just before an unexpected change in architecture sends them screaming for more low frequency mayhem. And that’s just to name a few. ‘Sins of the Streets’ has been in my box from the day I got it. I thought it was going to be the best tune on the Album. Then I got hit with ‘Juggernaut’ and ‘Distance,’ both completely disgusting! Definitely going to get some mileage out of this fantastic album for a long time to come, some excellent cuts on here.’ —Ed Rush—
‘Futuristic, funky, filthy are just three words I could use to describe SPL’s debut album. Dance floor smasher after dance floor smasher.. Essential.’ —Audio Freak Cult—
The LP itself has a total of 8 tracks bursting with ear candy and ready to lay waste to any system or individual daring enough drop the needle or load the disk.

a SPL – Juggernaut
b SPL – Angels
c SPL – Distance
d SPL – Guardian
e SPL – Sins of the Streets
f SPL – It Will Be Different

BRK013 Von Glooperstien / Bubbles – Hizatron / Geiom Berkane Sol 12″ Vinyl
*Special white vinyl pressing for the first 500 copies only* Part man/part machine Hizatron takes Berkane Sol in a new acidic direction with the outstanding tune that is Von Glooperstein. Atmospheric, refined, techy, funky and deranged are all accurate descriptions of this ever evolving masterclass in gloop. Beautiful digi bells, crisp clicks and clacks and a monster lead line all combine to work even the most demanding dancefloor. This tune will mix with UK Funky just as well as it does with techno and house. It features on the recent Geiom FACT magazine mix. http://www.sendspace.com/file/yydm34
In a manic attempt to fuse half step, electro booty bass, niche and primates into one coherent whole, Geiom came up with the delicious mongrel known as Bubbles. Wonky synths collide with tuff drum patterns in a tense, restless fashion which peaks with a kind of homage to the Midlands favourite underground genre, Bassline house. There’s a kind of psychedelic terror at the heart of this tune but its way too playful to ever become truly menacing….Both these tunes demonstrate the high standard of musical creativity that is coming out of Nottingham right now, but give no indication of an easy to identify style. Which is just how we like it! All the latest Berkane Sol developments will be showcased at our forthcoming head to head with the Blunted Robots – Fabric/October 9th.

WICKEDA001 A Nie Dvamata S Bobi Piem Kafe (Ramadanman Refix) – Wickeda Hessle Audio 12″ Vinyl
Hand stamped ltd edition of 500 180g vinyl. In early 2009, Ramadanman was approached by the British Council to participate in a cultural project between the UK and Bulgaria. The Bulgarian public voted for a top 10 of their favourite 90’s Bulgarian pop songs, which were then offered to three UK producers to remix (the others being Hexstatic and Craggz & Parallel Forces). Ramadanman chose the Wickeda song “А ние с Боби двамата пием кафе” (“And I and Bobby, We are Both Drinking Coffee”), and remixed it. The remix was premiered at a British Council‐organised club night in Sofia, Bulgaria’s capital, and beforehand, Ramadanman gave a remix workshop session to local producers. Wickeda are a Bulgarian rock band with a strong following. “А ние с Боби двамата пием кафе” was a hit single from their first album Revolution which was released in 1999 and sold over 30,000 copies. PL006 Hypothermic EP – Excision Vs The Subdivision Paradise Lost 12″ Vinyl
Redhot hitman Excision meets Paradise Lost labelheads The SubDivision on this longawaited deep, dark funk release, the Hypothermic EP. Hypothermic brings gangsta vocal licks together with the baddest of basslines and slick percussion which combine to sickening effect to devastate the dancefloor. Battered on dubplate by DJs across the spectrum, from Headhunter to Djunya to SPL and the list goes on. Flipside contains the equally sick, but totally different Hypothermic RMX, from the likes of Bristols finest, Komonazmuk, who together with Player 1 mutates the tune into a feast of warped and spaced out basslines which give a different feeling but the same effect, devastation. This one has been cut on dub by dubstep dons throughout the UK and you will no doubt have heard this one at your favorite venue. Winding up the release is the ultradark Titanium, which features heavy guitar riffs and bleak pads, making you want to punch your mother in the stomach. One for the hardcore and headstrong. EAR012 Chicken Foot – Clue Kid Earwax 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. It’s been a while now since Clue Kid released his debut single here on ‘Earwax – ‘Halogen’ and ‘Down & Dirty’ (2006). We are very pleased to have him back on wax, demonstrating his progressions as he’s has mastered his art. The lead track ‘Chicken Foot’ is a one for the clever stepper who likes his wobble to be little more deadly and refined in delivery. It’s a banger alright but one with plenty of restraint and fine style. Opening pads chime a deadly warning before the wonky bassline thumps in, heavily grooved and heavily weighted. Sporadic conga riffs cut through on point, adding to the momentum generated by the no-compromise bassline. Hold out for the 2nd drop as it twists a new way round! Flip then for the equally deadly but more stripped down ‘Shifty’. Perhaps not the most appropriate title ever conceived but a fine piece of heavy artillery nonetheless. Taking a 2005 Loefah sound (and supported by him for this very reason) and redefining it in a Clue Kid style. Excellent quality rhythm and bass music with a dark and unforgiving edge.
Support from: Pinch, Loefah, Mary Anne-Hobbs, Plastician, N-Type, RSD and many more.

X_Life Continuum shows the guys going in deep with hard synth manipulation, warm pads and haunting choir which glides in and out effortlessly through the mix. Best listened to in a dark room, with a massive sound system, for people who like to feel the bass rattling they’re chest!
Y_Wondering Why this is the yang of the flip, with a different feel altogether, in what only can be described as beautiful! With a skippy half time beat, and the sense of emotion from the off. As soon as the needle hits the edge of the record you know you are in for an emotional six minute journey. With a ghost like female vocal that glides through the track like a hot knife through butter. One for the head phones but also rocks the dance.

IBR004 Deixa – Octa Push Iberian 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. Lisbon-based Octa Push are the newest recruits on the Iberian label and here they come up with the goods on this very distinctive international flavoured 3-tracker – following their debut vinyl release on Soul Jazz Records, Stepper’s Delight 2 compilation. Having blown up the Red Bull Stage at this year’s Sonar in Barcelona and wowed people at Fabric and the Glade Festival with their unique flow; which sees them combine the Portuguese and African sound spliced with elements of UK Garage, Dancehall and Techno. Both “Deixa” with Toni Clean, resident in Portugal and from the Cabo Verde Isles, and “Baila Mundo”, with the legendery MC Zulu and his distinctive randomised dance hall cadence, show Octa Push as accomplished producers – having already remixed the likes of Buraka Som Sistema, Debruit, Mochipet and Dj Znobia, to name a few – and skilled at using original vocals over their bass line driving funky beats; whilst “Dubshh” is a marvellous bustling and punchy instrumental rub perfectly illustrating their bass and groove style. All three tunes are sure players and seem destined to bring the Portuguese style to a growing fan base and providing Iberian with yet another non-UK produced bass continuum vibe.
DJ support from, TRG, Shackleton, Ruckspin, I.D., Bok Bok, Kanji Kinetic, Bunzer0, Pirate Soundsystem, DJ Deville, Subeena, Smutlee, Untold, Kid Kameleon, Helixir, RSD, SiBegg.

TUBE10006 Why / Sound System – DJ Madd & Matt-U Tube10 Recordings 10″ Vinyl
DJ Madd finally sees his debut on Tube10 and what a debut this is. His tune “Why” shows exactly Why! His addictive hi hats and full on chest rattling bass lines flex tremendously, while the groove is so on point you cant sit still on this. A perfect tune to introduce Madd to the Tube10 camp! Flip it over for more subloaded action as Madd teams up with fellow Hungarian Matt-U to show what they can do. Well if your on a big rig you’d better watch out, this will rattle everything from your shorts to your girls bra. “It Sounded like a bomb was going off”.

ramp024
RAMP024 Destination There EP – Ras G & The Afrikan Space Program Ramp Recordings 12″ Vinyl
Ras G returns to RAMP after last year’s extrasolar remix of Clouds’ “Timekeeper”, and recent output on BFF Flying Lotus’ digital-only Brainfeeder label with a fresh EP of speaker popping rasta flecked hip hop sickness. Residing in the left coast, Ras has been godfather to the new post-Dilla instrumental hip hop movement, releasing various vinyl releases on his own Poobah label as far back at 2005. Being one of the most innovative and crazy characters in the scene, Ras’ dusty bass humps are still bringing the realness in a massively stagnant field.

Dom & Roland has been at the forefront of the Drum and Bass electronic music scene for over 15 years. Originally signed to No-U-Turn he moved to the scene leader Moving Shadow in 1995, he has released four critically acclaimed albums to date, over 100 singles, high profile electronic remixes as well as many collaborations with some of the scene’s most talented artists.

As one of the pioneers of the tech-step genre he is well known for his cinematic otherworldly soundscapes, It has often been suggested that he move into doing film soundtracks as his sound often conveys a strong visual element. Teamed with his sought after talent for producing dancefloor pounding rhythms, he has managed to stay at the pinnacle of the scene to this day.

dom

In 2005 Dom started his own label Dom & Roland Productions releasing the creme de la creme of Drum and Bass collaborations, as well as being an outlet for his own work. An accomplished sound engineer, Dom is well known to have co-produced and mixed some of the classics of the drum and bass scene, including Subway with Ed Rush, Sonar with DJ Trace, appearing as guest producer alongside Optical on Grooveriders seminal Prototype Years album, as well as having enjoyed enormous success with many of his own tracks including the mighty Thunder, Imagination and Can’t Punish Me. The late John Peel a longtime fan, also approached Dom to commission a piece of work although sadly this dream was never realised.

Over the years Dom & Roland releases have been commissioned for several Playstation games and licensed to television in various countries including the BBC and Channel 4 in England. More recently Dom has continued his passion for pushing the boundaries of music technology, contributing from a producer’s standpoint, by being an advisor to various music software companies, including Native Instruments and Focusrite, taking studio tools to the next generation.

In his latest album No Strings Attached, in addition to his latest solo work, Dom has teamed up with the current crop of big name producers to release a 12 track album, featuring collaborations with Amon Tobin of Ninja records, the trendy Dutch super producers Noisia, Violence label owner Hive, Audio, and last but by no means least Rob Playford, Dom’s old label boss, now close friend, also known as the co-producer and engineer of Goldie’s legendary timeless album. Doms latest album is one of his finest works to date and is due for release in late November on all formats.
