Atlas Recordings is the brainchild of the legendary DJ Lee. Conceived in 2002 and set up as a platform for his burgeoning production output, it garnered a devoted following from the very first release, the huge ‘Udon / Double Down’ from Lee himself and long time cohort D.Kay.

With a bulging DJ diary, Lee lacked both the time and energy needed to really give it the care and attention it needed and Atlas sadly closed its doors just a year later on release number three. Fast forward to 2010 however and Atlas is making a comeback with Lee vowing to make it a success again this time round.

ATLAS004, the first release of the relaunch, is from Lee, fellow Oxfordians Total Science and current d&b hot property S.P.Y, with two huge dancefloor tracks, – Relentless’ b/w ‘Useless’. These tunes have been getting battered by the select few DJ’s lucky enough to have a copy and have been causing carnage in clubs across the world. They have created a buzz about Atlas not seen since the first release and with plenty more music in the pipeline, your sure to be hearing a lot more from Lee and his Atlas imprint in the near future….

Auxiliary is the new label from ASC.  It’s goal is the continuation of the Autonomic sound, that has risen to popularity over the last year or so. Klute has announced his first album in 2 years titled ‘Music for Prophet’, on his own ‘Commercial Suicide’ imprint. As on his previous albums, Klute stays true to himself with another non-commercial, yet 100% dancefloor friendly longplayer that – just like his excellent dj sets – offers the right balance of musical tunes alongside some real heavy hitters.

That was after he was in a Hardcore Punk band when he was a kid – in the 80′s, called The Stupid. They were really good at first too, but then got boring and fell apart, not after some juicy ego clashes. Anyway, Klute – Tom Withers, started back in 1994, i think when he was asked for a name to keep exclusive to Certificate 18 records when they agreed on 2 tracks to be his first single. It was there he stayed until 2000 when he delivered his 2nd final album for Cert 18 called Fear Of People. At this point in time Tom decided to make a change and realising no one else was interested in releasing his music decided to set up his own label.

With his own platform set up he realized anything was possible, he could even release music by other idiots. Which he did. Perhaps too much. An interesting fact no one knows about Tom Klute is that he is the world’s leading composer of Airport music. Most of you who’ve travelled the friendly skys will have unknowingly heard his works at one time or another. Now we come to 2010 and Klute is ready for fucking more, and more it is with his 6th album “Music for Prophet”.

All of Klute’s previous albums have been released to critical acclaim and this one will not stand behind, showing that Klute’s consistency as an artist reaches into 2010 and beyond. The album which also features a collaboration with Dom & Roland will be released as triple coloured vinyl, 2 X CD and Digital download. The additional CD & digital download package promises bonus material including techno tracks.

Breaking through with a fresh & funk-fuelled sound, the Bournemouth-based DJ/production duo of James Davidson and Greg Hepworth are making their mark in 2010 and setting the pace for others to follow.
These two essential singles mark the relaunch of a newly revitalised Subtitles and clearly demonstrate why Ulterior Motive are fast-building a reputation for high-quality, innovative drum & bass.

Ulterior Motive

James Davidson and Greg Hepworth joined forces in 2003 when they discovered a mutual passion for the kind of funky, technical and futuristic drum & bass pioneered by Ed Rush & Optical in the late-90s. Taking this as inspiration, they worked hard to forge a sound of their own by combining custom hand-built studio kit with modern production techniques before tentatively reaching out with early demos. The response was immediate and Ulterior Motive tracks have since become a staple for the very best selectors in the scene.

Teebee was one of the first to recognise their talent, snapping up ‘Infrasonic b/w Holding On to Never’ for Ulterior Motive’s debut single on Subtitles. Summer 2010 brings two further 12”s, ‘Featherweight b/w Glued’ and ‘2098 b/w Yoghurt Brainwave’, with both singles getting heavy rotation right across the board from Noisia, DJ Marky, Marcus Intalex, Alix Perez, Loxy, Calyx, Commix, Break, Icicle and Kasra to name but a few.

One of the standout tracks of 2009’s Sun & Bass Festival, ‘Featherweight’ put the duo firmly on the map and has been punching holes through speakers worldwide ever since. Built on crisp breaks, cheeky percussion and a classic hip-hop hook, the certified dancefloor-smasher showcases their signature funky sound and delivers a downright dirty bassline sure to test any system.

Mathis Mootz, the teutonic mastermind and producer behind The Panacea from Wuerzburg, Germany, has developed and perfected his sinister drum & Bass mashup style over the years. The Panacea is digital Napalm Death, he samples and throws together elements of hardcore techno, drum’n'bass, jungle and industrial creating a truly powerful, explosive sound.

As one of the dominant faces of the iconic german record label Position Chrome he has released 25 ep’s and 5 albums since 1996. His debut ‘Low Profile Darkness’ was one of his most influential works to date and a huge
success with over 12.000 copies sold. It received diverse support from a variety of genre’s such as metal, industrial, goth and punk. it was truly ground zero, a monolith for heavy music to come. Others followed like the
techno & hardcore influenced ‘Twisted Designz’, ‘Phoenix Metabolism’ with it’s hip hop & booty-bass roots, the enormous ‘German Engineering’ & ‘Underground Superstardom’, as well as the experimental & noisy
‘Architettura’.

Voodoo music is the new label from Offkey. In the last year Raiden has increasingly begun to explore his love for tribal & percussive based drum n bass and after a recent trip to Latin America the concept for Voodoo Music was born.

In preparation for Voodoo music this year Raiden & Khanage have been busy been creating music that has gathered ‘every set’ support and rewinds from Alix Perez, Loxy, Doc Scott, dBridge, C4C, Rockwell, Icicle, Ink & Bailey amongst others. The tracks have become anthems for the new emerging sound and its followers. Thinking with a mind toward the future we have been keeping our eyes and ears on a few emerging artists that we can develop on a long term basis- Morphy and Khanage to name a few.

Voodoo Music will also feature contributions and collaborations with Rockwell, Loxy, June Miller amongst others, each release will come with its own identity and we will be working closely with the artists to make sure their work is represented in the truest sense.
We are able to work with like minded artists within drum n bass as our work has been received very well by peers and in turn these artists are writing music specifically to fit the sound and concept of Voodoo Music.

The debut release for the label is the long in demand tracks from Raiden entitled ‘Baptism Of Fire’ b/w ‘Danzon’. Baptism Of Fire is a brooding track that thrives on holding a sense of cold tension whilst ‘Danzon’ is a latin inspired skank out that doesn’t go down the trad-latin formula but instead concentrates highly on the complex rhythms of Cuba.

The second 12″ will be another instalment from Raiden & Khanage’s ongoing collaboration with ‘Amnesia Haze’ & ’8798′, two tracks that ignited the initial spark for the Voodoo Music project during a very late in the studio between the pair.

After a brief hiatus, we return with a delicate slice of wax that epitomises what LDR stands for – new, original music from hardworking, young artists. After the success of Data’s “Blowpipe” on LD5 and a string of genre-busting releases on labels like Metalheadz, Critical, Revolution and Tempa, Data brings us a grimy gem in the form of “Liberty City Blues”. Incident from Hungary and Paul SG from Austria blew us away with this track which featured on our recent Knowledge Magazine cover CD mix. “Liberty City Blues” is a minimalistic piece of jungle music reminiscent of early Photek or Source Direct. From the outset the tune just bubbles with menace and keeps on building and evolving throughout. A pure bass-heavy slice of proper jungle. “Autumn Drops” is a soulful roller that shows that this crew are ones to watch in 2010. The creme de la creme of hardcore dnb rises it ugly head once again..and this time Donny steps up with 2 of the sickest hardsteppin dnb tracks of the year. Not played out and battered for years and years no this one is fresh n fucked up to the bone! Wonder for reason shows the Donny sound ever so perfect. Destructive snares, Exploding kicks and a sub bassline that’ll rattle everything off the ceiling.. Keeping it rollin but allso keeping it brutal is something Donny does best and this could probably be his best work to date! For the second sampler of the Sync:Saphir album collaboration, the sounds are switched up a bit, bringing in a very heavy remix of Electrosoul System’s Fun (from BLUS004) and newcomer BIONIC1′s Love Machine. These two tunes put a new spin on the usual Blu Saphir and Syncopix releases you’re used to, bringing deep, techy, rolling vibes to the table. You’re all used to Henree, spitting out releases over the last five years on the likes of Blindside, Deep Kut, Sound Trax, Lucky Devil, Phunkfiction, Soul:R and Vampire. BIONIC1 is a newcomer to Drum & Bass, but he’s got a rolled out sound that’s not to be missed!

A. ELECTROSOUL SYSTEM — FUN (HENREE REMIX) Before listening to this remix, you might want to revisit the original to notice the change in texture and sound. Henree definitely lays it down with this remix. Bass heavy and driving, you’ll feel bass quakes rolling through the floor as this one passes through the sound system. The opening resembles the original, but that’s all you’re going to get that hasn’t really changed. The moody chord progression that is stabilized throughout the track is enough to make a spine tingle, while the minimal vocal adds spice and atmosphere to an already amazing work. Very melodic and uplifting, an excellent choice in remix selection for this record!

B. BIONIC1 — LOVE MACHINE There is no one word to describe this track. One second you’re locked inside some type of futuristic space encounter, and then bombarded by techy stabs and vicious bass in the next. Following a sexy and seductive vocal, “Wanna go for a ride?,” all chaos breaks loose! Rolling tech funk is the name of the game here! Fans of labels like DNAudio, Black Reign LTD, Quarantine, Critical and Shadow Law will want to check into this one!

2009 was a fantastic year for Breed12inches. Strong releases supported by the scenes finest and the introduction of Utopia were just a handful of clogs that drove the machine. Now, with 2009 behind us, allow Breed12inches to usher in 2010 with the introduction of yet another dynamic duo. Hailing from Russia, DaVIP and Encode are two up and coming producers with that trademark Russian sound. 2009 was the year of introducing Utopia to the world, now two more Russian comrades surface. An industrial 12″ that captivates the current sound, it would appear that Breed12inches has its finger on the pulse yet again.
