New D&B CD

SUBTLE004CD – Various – Subtle Audio Vol II (3XCD) – CDX 3
3X CD– two are unmixed and crammed with 26 tracks of varying shapes and styles, the other is a mix up of Subtle Audio releases past, present and future by label head honcho Code. CD’s 1 & 2 feature well established artists alongside others who are just beginning to make a name for themselves. Each artist / production team contributes two tracks, giving them extra breadth to showcase different styles and moods. Reinforced Records veteran Alpha Omega (aka Nubian Minds) goes uptempo and atmospheric with “Impulse” and downtempo and quirky with “Highway Cruising”. Sileni, of Planet Mu fame, supplies the beat-less intro for the album and also a collage of pitched snares and seething hiss on “Real Horrorshow”. France’s Naibu has made waves over the last few years with a series of quality releases (including his self titled debut album) and he continues to strengthen his reputation here with a unique soundscape produced for a short animated film, aswell as a finely honed piece of breakbeat called “Nightscape”. Dissident also had a highly acclaimed album release recently, under his Kontext alias (which he uses for his work outside of D&B). Here we get both sides of coin with the jerky original version of Kontext’s “Thaw” on Disc 1 and a kick driven D&B remix by Dissident on Disc 2. Another artist in the limelight presently is Austria’s Sub – he follows his recent Subtle Audio vinyl excursion with the live jazz sound of “Sensualism” and the dark, half-step sound of “Katana”. DSP spices things up with two collaborative efforts. “Lyrica Haze” resulted from a studio session with scene legend DJ Trax and check out his hook-up with recent Rephlex signing Macc for some interesting breakbeat flexing and a mysterious atmosphere. Also featured are (relatively) new names such as Mindmapper, Fre4knc, Nic TVG, San.Dra, Earl Grey, Parallel, CJ Weaver, Indidjinous and The Blunt Needles / Enjoy. For the mix CD 3, Code has pieced together a fluid mix of Subtle Audio material past, present and future. This is certainly one of the deepest mixes you’ll hear this year, a real journey full of everything from old old funk breaks and glitch-ifed beats to trippy synthesisers and moody jazz mixed with great fluidity.

New D&B Releases

PRODUCT011 – Craggz & Parallel – Metroplex / Future Shock – 12″ Vinyl
The final 12” Vinyl taken from the Turn The Page album. Whilst other tunes have hinted at it, ‘Metroplex’ fully embraces their inherent love of techno with huge half-time 808’s and synths that would make Juan Atkins chomp at the bit. One for those who know and a lovely surprise for those who are yet to know. On the flip ‘Future Shock’ sticking with the vintage outboard gear sounds the guys then up it once more for one final drum & bass rollout that has killer written all over it. Turn it up, close your eyes and get marching!

EXITLP006 – Genotype – Ritual Dance LP – 3×10”
After a lengthy break from the electronic music world, Genotype is back with an LP for Exit Records and provides a lesson in stripped back dub influenced music at approximately 170 bpm. Having started his music career in the mid nineties under the legendary alias Just Jungle, with releases on the massively influential labels of that era such as Trouble On Vinyl, Renegade Hardware and Reinforced Records, its no surprise that he’s managed to capture the essence of rawness in his recent music akin to the early years of Jungle. Many producers have tried and failed to bring back the old skool sound with an original flavor but Genotype has managed this by resisting the temptation to lash in the tired old classic breaks and instead has drawn for the more organic sounding percussion and drum kits. The dubbed out theme runs throughout the album paying homage to his love for West Indian music which he has been involved in for many years and naturally influences the music he creates. Genotype is a man of few words and prefers to let his music do the talking so check out the album and draw your own conclusions.

TRIPS004 – Silent Witness – Brainedrain / Frozen Still – 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy promo. A. Silent Witness – Brainedrain opens up with an uplifting sound scape of lush chords, tight beats, and bass growls that rises up to a devastating drop of titan like proportions. Drums and bass dance with each other along the way, taking in turn-around tripwires and reverb bombs. It eventually settles with a break down consisting of twisted pitch drops and euphoric anticipation. The second drop then kicks in with a different twist on the bass frenzy witnessed earlier. Simply Disgusting. AA. Silent Witness – Frozen Still still harks back to the vibes of jungle with an eerie wash amidst classic stabs and vocal snippets. This sound is updated with contemporary minimal drums, exciting rhythmic frills, and a rolling sub bass designed to smother everyone in the Silent Witness ether. Bass stabs and moody pads prevail with time stretched fills electrocuting all in it’s path. Dangerous business! DJ Support: Klute, Break, Survival, Ant C, Fierce, Noisia, Silver, Vicious Circle, Cause 4 Concern,Friction.

SUBTLE004EP – Various – Subtle Audio Vol II – 12″ Vinyl x 2
Finish copy promo. This is the second compilation album from Ireland’s ever inventive Subtle Audio label. With Dj’s as diverse as Mary Anne Hobbs of BBC Radio 1, Bailey on BBC Radio 1Xtra and possibly the best-known name in electronica, Aphex Twin playing Subtle Audio material regularly, you can rest assured that this is Drum & Bass beyond the normal scope and will be enjoyed by many who thought they didn’t like that style of music! The Vinyl side of the project holds 5 exclusive tracks. On disc 1, Requiem kicks things off in style with heavy hitting drum onslaught of “Ancient Dub” while on the flip-side the sweet ambient breakbeat of Accidental Style’s “Space Funkt” is one of the most delicately delivered pieces of music you’ll hear this year. Disc 2 takes in the soaring synths of Mecca’s “Virtual Affair”, the ratchet and wrench inspired percussives of “Janne” by Dan Habarnam and a 170 bpm VIP version of Sub’s downtempo jazz offering on the CD version of this release – “Sensualism”. As you will hear, these producers are bringing fresh ideas and an experimental ethos to the sound of Drum & Bass. We’re looking forward to hearing what they come up with next! Watch this space.

CITRUS043 – Morebeat / Nphonix & Enei – I’m Not A Monster / Quicksilver – 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy promo. Citrus reveals its sour sting once again as the Morebeat boys step up together with Nphonix & Enei for Citrus 043. You know Citrus has that standard quality feel and again they smash this release in their own way.. bringing 2 heavyweight tech infused rollers to the plate to continue the Citrus Saga. First up its Morebeats ‘I’m not a monster’ and their dead right with the title because this tune isn’t a monster.. it’s a Behemoth.. Acid like bleeps, crunching bass lines and punching kicks.. The rushing sounds remind you of older Konflict material with a dash of BSE.. If you still have no clue who Morebeat is by now then better start backtracking these guys. Flip it over to side B for Nphonix & Enei’s ‘Quicksilver’ if your into rollers then oooh baby.. this one is an essential one.. These funky beats will not leave you alone on the dance floor for one minute.. Quicksilver takes the funky dnb section for a ride on this one.. If you are into the old stuff of Noisia or Ed Rush & Optical then you should 100% give this a listen..

New Dubstep / Funky / Techno releases

ISP005 – Arkist & Komonazmuk – Outbreak / Until Next Time – 12″ Vinyl
Ever-versatile, Komonazmuk has seen varied releases on labels including Combat Recordings and Apple Pips, as well as a number of legendary remixes alongside Appleblim, including Brian Eno and Bonobo. His hotly anticipated album is due out on H.E.N.C.H in 2011. Arkist is a fresh face with a fresh sound straight out of Bristol’s creative melting-pot. Newly released from beneath the mentoring wings of Komonazmuk and Appleblim, his slick productions have already been slated for release on DecaRhythm, Apple Pips and Subdepth Records. A. Arkist & Komonazmuk – ‘Outbreak’ – Is it a bird, is it a plane? Arkist & Komonazmuk’s collaborative effort sticks to ISP’s ‘it’s-impossible-to-pin-down’ mantra, dipping its beak into the waters of electro, robo-funk, dubstep… possibly even harking back to a long-forgotten time when breakbeat was interesting. Straight up, no messing, ‘Outbreak’ comes with its weighty, synthesised beats from the go. After the drop the bassline strolls along playfully below a mirror of the same in light-footed melody. Around the halfway mark the ghosts of former rave stabs and an acid synth line add to an already eclectic sound. Watch out for the growling switch-up in the second drop. DJ support from: Appleblim, the Foreign Beggars, HENCH, Maryanne Hobbs etc AA. Arkist – ‘Until Next Time’ – The spikey breakbeats and spliced vocals of the intro give little warning of the rich sonics and warm compression of the track that follows the drop. It’s dubstep Jim, but not as we know it… not a wobble in sight but smooth sub-bass pulses position this track firmly on the dancefloor, while a fluid, saturdated melody and glistening top end show exactly why Arkist’s production standards have been turning heads in the scene recently. Never one to sit back and ride the loop, ‘Until Next Time’ is no different, with Arkist repeatedly shifting through gears of sub-heavy groove. If Ibiza was built for bass-heads, this track would be wearing the needles out at the Cafe del Mar. DJ Support from: Scuba, Headhunter, Appleblim etc.

180 gram Vinyl. RATVILLE is a new school dub band releasing their 1st album Dubs on the Corner in 2009, leaving serious after effects throughout the country. This time, GOTH-TRAD and DJ TUTTLE, east – west dubstep masters remixed the tracks to create a challenging piece of vinyl cut!! Remix was done by two artists, contributing to the spread of dubstep in Japan. As a host of Back To Chill releasing from UK’s one and only DEEP MEDI MUSIK, GOTH-TRAD is now achieving worldwide prominence. On the other hand, leader of DUBSTEP RUDE, DJ TUTTLE is out to shake things up establishing a new label NODE with Akira Ohashi from Psycheouts G. GOTH-TRAD’s side modestly builds up till it finally rocks the floor in the latter half. May suit for outdoor performances. Heavy duty 808 type kick supporting bottom end with metal-like percussion and SEs floating in the air, DJ TUTTLE side is made for the darkest closed chambers to inhale the low frequency. This is the spearhead of dubstep made in Japan. Hands-on approach of the two made a sensational reaction with Ratvilleafs sound, pushing it to the next dimension. HENCH021 – Chasing Shadows – Red (Chasing Shadows Remix) – 12″ Vinyl
Black Vinyl only. With the massive ‘It Was Written’, Chasing Shadows’ dark production style broke through. Having now had two double-sided H.E.N.C.H releases; ‘Dr Sin/ The End’ and ‘Ill/Amirah’ and their track ‘Dream On’ forming the crescendo for the Hench Mixtape Vol. 1, these talented producers are rapidly becoming household names within the dubstep fraternity. Once again this duo brings to the table two tracks that have been the talk amongst all who’ve bared witness in the club. Two distinctive, destructive productions that are guaranteed to cause delight. A. LAID BLAK – RED (CHASING SHADOWS REMIX) – Spanish-style guitar riff builds to make way for one of the catchiest vocal hooks that Bristol’s ever produced. Continue further to make way for a characteristically epic bassline drop that will shake the floor from beneath you. ‘Red’ is an awe-inspiring track that builds constantly. Expect the whole crowd to have hands in the air and singing along to this one – truly a future classic. AA. ODYSSEY – Odyssey is the kind of production that your neighbours are going to loath you for, but you just can’t stop listening to it anyway. An Atmospheric and expectant intro builds into juggernaut-like bassline. Couple this with its rolling tempo and crashing snares and you get the idea of why it works on your iPod, on the stereo, in the rave, and pretty much anywhere else that calls for a roller of this proportion!

DUBLINE007 – Vaski – I Only Date Aliens / Robot Sounds – 12″ Vinyl
When DJ/Producer Vaski sent his demo to rottun manager Excision, he had no idea of the journey that he was beginning. With his first two tracks storming the beatport top ten charts, Vaski hit the studio, returning to his Electro House production roots for the massive Terror Dome EP, featuring the self-titled track as well as the hit single ‘You Wouldn’t Understand,’ Peaking again in the top ten of dubstep on beatport. Vaski’s productions and local DJ sets began to gain attention of international promoters and DJ’s. Vaski spent the next season DJing at many Twin Cities venues, playing at the famed First Ave, Dinkytowner, and The Loft all the while working on his next work. World on Fire EP shook not only the beatport charts but the entire dubstep community. All five tracks peaked in the top 25 in dubstep on beatport, two tracks in the top ten, and the famous ‘Get Down’ claiming its rightful place as a number one hit. MR011 – Jamie George – Flying Saucer (Ft Roska & J Kenzo Remixes) – 12″ Vinyl
Roska’s Kicks and Snares/RKS is back with another big release, and this time it comes courtesy of Jamie George with the hotly anticipated Flying Saucer. First picked up by DJ Oneman, making it a feature on his Rinse mix cd, support for this track has grown and grown with well known acts such as Toddla T, Hot Chip and Tomb Crew repping it hard. Combining elements of UKG, House and Dubstep Jamie has created an instant classic that has worked hard to earn this release and the plays of DJ’s all across the country. Roska himself steps up with the first remix, a re-imagining with special attention on the percussion, elements of tribal and dancehall peel back the layers of the original in the way that only a talented minimalist like Roska can. With his speciality lying in the truly funky Roska drops a mix that literally drags you up to your feet and pushes you harder the longer it’s played. J Kenzo, of Dub Police fame, completes the package with a much darker, harder affair. You get the impression he took the original track and made it watch the entire Saw series back to back with Halloween then sent it back scarred forever. In all seriousness Kenzo has a real talent for creating dark, bass driven tracks and he has expanding on that here adding heavy portions of electro and old school to compose a truly original mix. Check them out and get back to us.

This track has been receiving a lot of interest from DJ’s across the board with regular airplay from Radio 1’s Nihal, Zane Lowe, Mercury Award Winner Nitin Sawhney and not to mention Dubstep headliners in abundance. Don’t Sleep rounds up insistent synth stabs and Bollywood strings on a hard halfstep to bring razor edged skankers vibes in true Eastern Dubstep fashion. Jack Sparrow is another producer in the spotlight having released his debut album ‘Circadian’ on the infamous Tectonic Recordings in October of this year. This will be his very first release since the launch of his masterpiece and is definitely one which highlights his ability to adapt to any style whatever the occasion. Having had ample radio exposure on Radio 1 (Maryanne Hobbs), Kiss 100 (DJ Hatcha) and Rinse Fm for many months, this track is heavily in demand and is creating a strong interest from DJ’s across the board. ‘Way Out West’ is a Shackleton-inspired fusion of spooked atmospherics and gloomy bass with tribal percussion for the dancefloor shakers. Perhaps imagine a space between Kryptic Minds, Shackleton and Mala and ‘Way Out West’ is right there. L-Wiz are Liquid Dubstep’s forefathers and with this melancholic and dreamy production, ‘Lips’ is no exception to the Swedish producers’ resume. With a vast spectrum of releases on the world famous Dub Police label, the dynamic duo are behind the controls to deliver an effortless, breezy Dubstep sound anchored in mid-summer. ‘Lips’ revolves around light piano cascades over a straight and ultraclean halfstep evolving into what can only be described as a killer synth lead. This really is liquid dubstep at the highest level, with regular airplay from Caspa and Anti Social UK, ‘Lips’ is a must have for all sofa-step connoisseurs. Von D is another Liquid Dubstep icon who has been selected for the Social Circles EP to bring another awesome flip to contrast in phenomenal fashion. Argon’s enlist Von D is France’s premier ‘step export with a resume full of tropical and picturesque releases from ‘Its Over’ on Boka to ‘Miss Maui’ featured on Dubstep Allstars 7 – ‘Incognito’ is not in any way an exception. With regular airplay from Chef, Tes La Rok and Bun Zero, ‘Incognito’ brings to you a well sought after roller using flash synthlines and subbass turbulence that can only be achieved by a certain few. Absolument Magnifique!

SUBTLE003CD 2nd Rate 2xCD Version – Polska Subtle Audio CD x 2
Irish producer Garth McNamee aka Polska is not your average studio dweller in 21st century Drum & Bass. It’s obvious from those he cites as being his biggest inspirations within the scene – Paradox, Seiji and 4-Hero. His musical digest has always been wide and his productions have also been inspired by the jazz compositions of people like Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Herbie Hancock and the ambient stylings of Boards Of Canada. “2nd Rate” is a reference to how these outside influences are transposed into the realm of D&B and given a new life. CD1 holds a varied collection of D&B from the inspiring atmospherics of “Good Day” to the jazz band breakbeat of the title track “2nd Rate” and from the dark electronic groove of “Dumster” to the organic sounds of “Reindevo”. Over on CD2 the tempo drops but the diversity is just as evident. “Compatible” and “2 Reflex” raise the bpm count and inject energy and variety to the proceedings. All in all, this is an epic journey – taking in 20 tracks, a myriad of tempos and influences a wide range of instrumentation.

SUBTLE014 2nd Rate – Polska Subtle Audio 12″ Vinyl
This is the vinyl installment of the “2nd Rate” project by Irish producer Polska. These tracks are slightly more dancefloor orientated than those on his 2xCD long player of the same name but it’s still perfect for those who prefer the meditative side of electronic music. Opening with atmospheric strains, “Setplace” is an incendiary piece of breakbeat D&B that alternates between darkness and light throughout. The constantly changing arrangement, sharp percussives and wandering bassline patterns keep your attention. Flip over for a special remix of Polska’s “Outvert” by king of the beats, Equinox. The stop / start nature of the original is transformed into a more rugged, rolling affair here which gets more adventurous and cut-up as it progresses. Sweet pads, strings and vocal snatches compliment the beats and the deep sub bass completes a real ‘rough with the smooth’ masterpiece. The third track “2nd Rate” also features on the CD version of this release and evokes images of a live jazz quartet on stage rather than a producer in a studio! The progression from nice-n-easy jazz to D&B onslaught half way through makes this tune an epic journey.Polska is coming from a different angle to most producers at the moment but this is certainly a refreshing take on the Drum & Bass sound.

New D&B Promos

EXIT023 Weatherman / Shanty – Digital Exit Records 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy promo. This golden era heavyweight is still in the game and as strong as ever. Having produced some of the finest tracks of the Drum n Bass golden era and recorded for labels including Metalheadz, Photek productions, Reinforced and Phantom audio to name a few, he’s still at it and in fine form once again. Sticking to his guns and keeping his original bass heavy dub style, he’s rolled out two tracks in the same vein as some of his classics such as Gateman and Deadline. If you don’t know about Digital yet then its time to get to know. If you do then know your in for a treat. ‘Weatherman’ comes with the ridiculously fat sub bass that Digital is renowned for, topped with a half time step and shuffling hats and shakers to add pace its not far off being an all out dub track. Classic jungle pads and delayed dub vocals pay homage to days gone by and prove that this music, when done properly can still smash up a club without all the mid range madness that is more common in this day and age. Digital teams up with Scottish Producer Morphy on the b-side and again comes with the heavyweight bass, half time step and dub vibes but this track has a more hypnotic and entrancing quality to it. Dub stabs and laid back melodies wind around the bass like a snake being charmed out of its box. All in all the perfect partner to the a-side and completes the 12” as yet another slice of history is made by this legend.

This is one of the freshest and sickest D&B tracks a long time. Ant TC1 & Octane’s District (a track containing a rather cheeky South African themed sample; don’t worry it’s not the annoying plastic horn but rather a film about prawns to provide another clue!)

AA SIDE: SKITTY – BRIX 81 ‘brix81’ has a more old skool jungle feel from the intro, from there a chanting vocal hook comes in to take you to the break down then steel toe capped amens pave the way for heavy low freq bass that will shake the FOUNDATIONS. New Dubstep / Funky / Techno releases

PIPS012 Untitled / Digest – Joe Apple Pips 12″ Vinyl
With the success of our last releases getting props and plays from DJs as diverse as Erol Alkan, DJ T, Martyn, Deetron, & Rob Da Bank we are really excited to present our next slice of futuristic funk for your ears and booty from the extremely talented Joe. With his debut, the awesome ‘Grimelight’, being released on Hessle Audio, Joe is part of a loose group of likeminded and future-thinking producers & DJs that includes Hessle Audio’s Ramadanman, Ben UFO, & Pangaea, and Untold & James Blake. Whilst they all have very individual sounds, they share a vision of dubstep, uk funky, techno & house influenced beats that seem to defy genre.
The A-side ‘Untitled’ is a huge stepping wad of funk, bringing to mind 2-step, early Skream & Benga, even stripped down grime classics like Pulse X, but with a truly contemporary twist. This tune drops hard, and has been a secret weapon of Appleblim’s for some time now – he was pleasantly surprised to see ravers of all ages go mad to it! The flip sees Joe’s more experimental leanings come out on ‘Digest’, but he never forgets the groove and funk. With rolling percussion, steppy sub bass and shiny analogue synth stabs cutting through, it seems to us like a mixture of Mala from Digital Mystikz and Theo Parrish! High praise indeed…
DJ/Radio support coming from Mary Anne Hobbs (BBC Radio 1), Modeselektor, Peverelist, Rob Da Bank (Radio 1/Bestival), Paul Woolford, Ramadanman, Brackles, Appleblim & many more.

DP038 Badman Sound / SlowDown – Doctor P / Trolley Snatcha Dub Police Records 12″ Vinyl
Dub Police continue to release some of the scenes most in demand tunes and this single is no exception. The man of the minute Doctor P steps up with a serious club banger in the shape of ‘Badman Sound’, which has gained huge support from the likes of Caspa, N-Type, Skream, The Others & many more of the scenes big hitters. Squelching bass, tonk beats and a serious catchy lead that you will be singing for days after; all combined to make this one massive track! The flip side doesn’t take any prisoners either, but this time it’s the turn of the man who spends way too much time hanging around outside supermarkets; Trolley Snatcha. Featured on the Scion A/V & Dub Police CD, ‘Slow Down’ will already be well known by a lot of you eager dubhunters out there with it’s relentless basslines, stomping beats and cheeky Middle Eastern melodies. All in all this is a single you can’t afford to pass on – an essential slab of plastic from Dub Police once again

EAR014 Maroon Chant / Late For Athens – Gemmy Earwax 12″ Vinyl
BIG BIG BIG BIG ! ! ! ! Earwax is very proud to present this huge 12” from ‘Purple Trinity’ producer Gemmy, guaranteed to cause serious sonic pressure on a dancefloor near you! ‘Maroon Chant’ is possibly one of Gemmy’s biggest tunes yet, a carefully crafted dancefloor monster brim with catchy purple melodic synths and heavy weight bass. The intro leads in with a looped tribal chant as the pattern is sucked into rolling snapping percussion before the squelching, ever-evolving bassline drops. The track builds and flows effortlessly maintaining high energy levels throughout. Big tune. Flip then for ‘Last 3 Digits’ – the title being a reference to pirate radio shows where the host refers to callers by the last 3 digits of their phone number. “Let me have 1 caller for the rewind”. Heavy hitting rave stabs punch out the catchy melody here before the track switches up into a grimey beat and even grimier bassline. Quality rave music. DJ Support From: Joker, Roska, Pinch, Mary Anne Hobbs, Guido, Ginz, Reso, Baobinga, Appleblim, Peverelist, RSD, Plastician Dusk & Blackdown, and many more.

HDB036 Bellion – Ill Blu HyperDub 12″ Vinyl
This is the debut release on Hyperdub for north London’s Ill Blu, one of Funky’s most celebrated and promising production duos, who since forming in 2008 have had a string of underground hits as well as recently putting remixes for the likes of Cheryl Cole and Hot Chip under their belts. On side A, ‘Bellion’ is a great example of Funky at it’s most effectively simple and maximalist. It’s memorable, clear, bell-like melody is reflected in the sub bass line and heavy mid range chords while the percussive drums add to the intensity making the whole track inescapably infectious. In contrast, B-side ‘Dragon Pop’s relentless lattice of congas, snares, deep bass drum and percussion seems minimal, but at the same time there is no space for melody within the tracks construction, it’s just that intense. The already big interest in Ill blu is set to reach far wider next week with the release of Kode9’s DJ Kicks album, on which they are included.

NL006 Sphere Of Influence / Sentiment – Stingray313 Naked Lunch 10″ Vinyl
Limited finished copies. Throughout a recording career spanning almost two decades, DJ Stingray aka. Sherard Ingram a.k.a. Urban Tribe has consistently avoided the mainstream to create a musical world of his own. Responsible for the early techno classic “Covert Action” on Retroactive (reissued on Planet E), Ingram was joined by Carl Craig, Anthony Shakir and Kenny Dixon jr. (Moodymann) for Urban Tribe s debut album “The collapse of modern culture” on Mo Wax and their latest project “Program 1-12″ released on Kenny Dixon Jrs label Mahogani Music and The recent “Loyal Opposition” releases on Planet E. Touring as Drexciya s official assault DJ, Stingray collaborated with James Stinson for the “Other People Place ft. Mystic Tribe a.i.” project on Clone in 2002. His two recent albums (“Authorized Clinical Trials” and “Acceptable Side Effects”) and singles for Rephlex have remained true to their drexciyan descent , not through imitation but through remorseless innovation in electro aesthetics.

FRJ007 Frijsfo Beats Volume 2 – Various Frijsfo Beats 12″ Vinyl
Limited finished copies. ‘Frijsfo Beats Volume 2′ is the second various-artists EP from the eponymous label, marking a fruitful two years in existence. Promise was recognised from the start in the pages of The Wire magazine among other places. Since then, support for Frijsfo’s open-minded aesthetic has grown, with FACT magazine, Boomkat and DJs such as Ben UFO, Pangaea and Tomb Crew getting behind vinyl releases from Sully, Ed DMX, Point B and Kuoyah. The EP opens with a first for the label in a contribution from Geiom, responsible for the Berkane Sol label, as well as material for the likes of Skull Disco, Deep Medi and Planet Mu. Here he irresistibly reworks the lead track from Kuoyah’s recent EP, raising a sweat with a stepping drum track and eking out key changes to expertly tighten up the cinematic drift of the original. Sully is a regular on the roster – championed by everyone from Dusk + Blackdown to Sinden – and he appears on ‘Volume 2′ with ‘Saviour’. Originally distributed as a free download, here the track receives the properly mastered vinyl cut it deserves, maximising the effect of an intense bass exorcism in classic 2003 style. His unique talent for bewitching future 2-step beats is also in full effect, allied to trademark ricocheting samples and a glowing chord progression. Point B continues to unearth hidden connections between Drexciya’s militant funk and the rhythmic flex of 2-step garage. If his gift for rewiring disparate conventions seems to create knotty musical puzzles at first, as with his previous work for Frijsfo – not to mention diverse releases on Combat, SCSI-AV and Orson – it always makes complete sense by the end. Rising Nottingham-via-Bristol producer Sclist ties up a few threads with a remix of a cut from ‘Frijsfo Beats Volume 1′. His version of Lewis Hunter’s ‘Cut From the Wreckage’ was previously included on his digital EP for Frijsfo, which followed a stand-out release for Whistla’s L2S Recordings. Surgically enhanced breakbeats and trademark mechanised glitches take things into angular, suspensefully paced territory in suitably unique fashion.

RWINA008 My Vitamin Pillbox Nikes / The Love – Noah D Rwina Records 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy promo. The eighth release of the infamous Rwina Records is brought to you by Noah Dickinson, better known as Noah D, or perhaps Noah Deezy if he happened to have a Paul Wall grill in his mouth. His 2009 megahit “Seeeriousss” slammed almost every imaginable chart all over the world and established as an all-around talented and respected producer, covering the whole spectrum of sounds from food for thought to dancefloor smashers. This time, the bass music legend from Portland (USA) delivers two deeper edged cuts spilling over with street-smart bass swagger, a bit-for-bit perfect match with the type of music that Rwina has been pushing lately. On the A-side, “My Vitamin Pillbox Nikes” is an arresting combination of gully sounds from the block and forward thinking programming that’ll tickle your brain each and every time you put this one on. The subs are one of a kind and the g-funk Synth line expertly recalls the West-Side Connection glory days: bow down! On the flip, “The Love” dispatches a tender message straight from the heart, contrasted with a rough melody and harsh drums that’ll make you question what sort of undertones lie beneath this tune. All things said and done, Noah D delivers a unique and fresh release that’s a must for the deeper heads out there or the party-hardy jocks that want to spice up their sets without losing the impact.

HENCH019 Herbert / Collins – Giant Hench 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy promo. Giant – composed of Enei, Ekta and Nersa – have been transmitting soundwaves of pure badness from the heart of St Petersburg for the last couple of years now. Providing their dark Russian vibes for the HENCH imprint, this trio should be considered one of the dubstep scene’s quickest rising stars. Their debut 12” on the label, ‘Drumstick’ and ‘Swoosh’, was one of 2009′s biggest selling releases and instantly framed their reputation as bringing club-led, off the wall, energetic music to all who listen. Here they bring us two fresh yet familiar tracks to give us yet more reason to be keeping an eye out for Giant in 2010. Sit back and enjoy. We dare you to sit still to these!!! A. HERBERT Drawing for a fat and crunchy intro, it’s not long before Giant get the subbass shaking the ground beneath your very feet. ‘Herbert’ brings a jaw-breaking bassline, yet remains funky and progressive throughout. Squeaky synth stabs blend between the forward-rolling arpeggio riffs to create a devastatingly fluid destroyer. Much like their notorious debut Hench track, ‘Drumstick’, ‘Herbert’ manages perfectly to pull off the balance between a thumping, yet dancefloor-friendly, release. AA. COLLINS BOOSTER Multi-layered rave vocals, fantasy-style looped riff and squelchy bassline accelerate ‘Collins Booster’ from 0-100 mph within moments. Maintaining their light sound, Giant provide a dubby and fast-paced killer that takes all who listen up to the very heights before dropping them into some serious dutty-damage. Don’t underestimate what this will do in the rave – this drop is golden!

AMLPCD01 The Mesozoic Era (CD) – Alaska Arctic Music CD
Often choosing to position himself as an outsider, Alaska’s success has never been limited to that of the UK- orientated drum and bass scene. He has collaborated under the Paradox name with some of greatest contemporary musicians the world has to offer, including Herbie Hancock, Bill Laswell, Shobha Gurtu, Toshinori Kondo and Bernie Worrell. His new album The Mesozic Era which is to be released on May 24th 2010, is the third in a trilogy of solo Alaska lp’s and a follow up to 2006’s successful Arctic Foundations.
The stunning packaging boasts Triple Snow-White Vinyl and a Solid-Black Compact Disc, something that hasn’t been manufactured before in drum and bass. As a bonus, the CD includes more from the infamous Sample Me series – specially edited breakbeat samples for aspiring producers to loop and splice – and shows Alaska’s commitment to the grass roots of the scene, giving something back to the fans and those he’s inspired. When he’s not in the studio, Alaska is inevitably on tour and continues to entertain crowds with his live shows truly worldwide (having only just returned from Alaska shows in Australia). Armed only with his trusty Amiga, synths and a mic, he performs a truly live PA, reconstructing tracks from his back catalogue and editing beats on the fly. He has performed over 180 live PA’s covering Australia, USA, Asia, Europe and beyond, and continues to venture into unchartered territory to represent his sound. It’s been 4 years since the Arctic Foundations album and a decade has passed by for the fans of the Virtual Virtuosos LP so It’s about time Alaska delivered the third chapter to complete the ambient-jungle trilogy. Alaska has been living in sub-zero temperatures whilst programming the album, and the frostbite’s reflected in every avenue of the LP. The album features pure ambient-jungle, Sample Me drum patterns for producers to sample, downtempo drum and bass and the debut ambient collaboration of Alaska & Robert Manos plus famous trance siren Kirsty Hawkshaw returns for two numbers on the LP. Arctic Music has raised the bar to deliver unique formats for analogue and digital lovers alike, with stunning and beautiful Triple Snow-White Vinyl and Solid-Black Compact Disc packages. Both 12” vinyl and compact disc versions offer material exclusive to each format, and all solid-black disc versions feature extended mix’s taking the album a step further.

PRINT002 Shallow Grave – Zero T & Mosus / Beta 2 Footprints Music 12″ Vinyl
ZT and his Kiwi buddy get a bit rowdy this time, with a heavy inspration from the early Virus sound of 1998-99. “Shallow Grave” sneaks in a kicks you in the gut and pounds you like Giant Haystacks!! as the vocal sample states….”.i roam when its dark, and take you to some secret place and bury you” Indeed! Mr.T decided to keep it in the family , Irish-Style, for the 1st two 12″s. So after old cohort Calibre provided the 1st flip side, next up is Zero’s original colaborative partner BETA 2. Its now 10 years since the pair debuted on 4 HERO’s Reinforced, and a long awaited return to the game from BETA 2 looms large! ” CABIN PHEVER” is classic ‘Blue Note’ buisness, for those that know! Beta tickles the ivories with aplom, plucks the Double Bass and chops a break in a style reminiscent of that ginger Ninja , Rupert Parkes (aka Photek).. Two words: FILM-NOIR.
Heavy support from the likes of Marcus Intalex, Jubei, Ulterior Motive, Bailey, Loxy, Ed Rush etc.

BRD005 Vamonos / High Technology – DaVIP & Encode Breed 12 Inches 12″ Vinyl
From the outside, it would appear that Breed 12 Inches has a unique bond with The Motherland, and you wouldn’t be wrong. Reaching our 5th release, 3 of which have already featured Russian artists, Breed 12 Inches is proud to introduce DaVIP & Encode onto the mainstage. Like their Russian counterparts who have also seen a release on Breed 12 Inches, this Russian duo hold nothing back, offering a huge 12” that has been literally cained by every DJ in the scene, from Audio to John B. One 12” of two superbly varying tracks, the collaboration of two of Russia’s rising artists backs Breed’s mission of developing and showcasing the best rising talent around. The A-side ‘Vamanos’, is that tune that you will have all heard over the last few months. Receiving welcomed and much appreciated support from the scene’s biggest, ‘Vamano’s has been jokingly dubbed “the most rewound tune of 2010”. Raw, electric and uncomprising – Russia in all of its glory. The B-side ‘High Technology’, is something a little different. A melodic, seemingly therapeutic melody, blended intricately with a stomping drum track, provides the foundations for a dancefloor orientated track – perfectly complimenting its counterpart on the A-side. The Russian pair have raised the bar for Breed 12 Inches once again, and with BRD006 + BRD007 already lined up, you’ll just have to keep an ear out.

CRIT046 Erase / Locked Up – Stray Critical Music 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy Promo’s. Bringing yet more total refreshment is Kasra’s Critical movement with what is yet another example of superlative A&R’ing skills. Stray is a name that’s surfaced previously on the Critical Sound album and more recently as a bonus remix on Sabre’s LP but this is his first solo single release and as you can imagine with fans like Gilles Peterson waiting in the wings, it’s most definitely a keeper. ‘Locked Up’ is a welcome shot in the arm for drum & bass heads and electronic fans alike. Fusing techno and 80’s sensibilities over a razor-sharp break workout, it’s absolutely phenomenal. Balearic, beautiful and thoughtful music that manages to straddle the dance floor/home listening divide with ease with its soothing piano lines, simple lead and rumbling bass. One to sit and watch the sunset to, then get up and dance once the lights go down. Things get darker on the flip with ‘Erase’. A life-support bleep rings from the start under cinematic strings and pads with a sparse break until an eerie soundscape dropout creeps us all out. Then back comes that break and a walking bassline as Stray starts to play with our minds dropping in some fierce old-skool edits and a synth line straight out of a horror film to make for an utterly compelling slice of experimental drum & bass. DJ support from Goldie, Logistics, Kasra, Nutone, Spectrasoul, Friction and many more.

Very limited finished copy. After a seminal remix of Scuba’s Hard Boiled on Hotflush in 2008, and the most popular mix of 2009 on mnml ssgs, this is the first proper release from Hotflush Recordings boss Paul Rose’s SCB project.
What the DJ’s are saying:
James Holden (Border Community) – “Classy, both sides of it”.
Laurent Garnier (F Communications) – “Super organic deeep techno. Love”
Chris Burkhalter (Resident Advisor) – “20_4 makes for a smooth segue into the 4/4 stylings Paul Rose has been embracing. Then “3_5″ dives head-first into melodic deep techno. But, for all that’s changed, the spare structures and arid sound design are unmistakably Scuba. Love it!”

HEK007 Beacon – LV & Untold Hemlock Recordings 12″ Vinyl
The much in demand collab by LV & Untold finally hits wax, back with a stunning Mount Kimbie remix. LV & Untold – Beacon – Possibly the most minimal tune to date by either artist, Beacon rolls on a bare bones set-up of deep swung bass, barely-there percussion and simple bleep-track melody. In the true spirit of the original dubstep pioneers, making very little, sound very BIG.
LV & Untold Beacon (Mount Kimbie Remix) – Mount Kimbie deliver a stunning remix. Layering a heap of their trademark melody onto the intro, following that with an instantly memorable rave hook, then easing us out gently with some sweeeet R&B inflected chopped vocals. Stunning stuff.

RED002 Avoid The Noid / Duality – DJG Pushing Red 12″ Vinyl
Known in many circles of dubstep and similar styles as one of the hottest up & comers, DJG has graced us with one of, what we think is his best release to date. Both sides showing his diversity & versatility as a producer and musician. A San Francisco native, DJG has been releasing music on many acclaimed labels, building his reputation and forging ahead with his unique take on dubstep.
A. Avoid The Noid: From the start, the listener is propelled into the pure energy of this track. A steady 4/4 kick drum keeps the momentum along with scattered snares. A deep, bouncy bassline pull everything together in style along with twinkling keys and a nice short vocal. Dubsteppers who like their music with a techno tinge will love this along some tech house listeners. A great piece of energetic music!
AA. Duality: One of our favorite tunes we’ve heard in a long time and are very proud to be releasing this. A minimal intro leads into a punchy snare that slaps you across the face while the drum fill in between keep things interesting. A huge sub bassline will keep any sound system on it’s toes. This tune is all about patience and the build up to a vocal that sits so well, it’s hard to imagine a tune around like it atm. A piece of music you just have to hear to believe!
DJ Support: RSD, 2562, Headhunter, Komonazmuk, J Sparrow, Synkro, F, Jus Wan, XI, Distal, Rob Booth.

DRUNK016 Anidea – Guido Punch Drunk Records 12″ Vinyl x 2
Finish copy. ‘Anidea’ is the debut album from young Bristol based producer Guido, who alongside Joker and Gemmy, has trail blazed his way to the forefront of UK dance music. His two 12” releases, ‘Orchestral Lab’ and ‘Beautiful Complication’ on Peverelist’s Punch Drunk label in 2009, and recently completed remixes for Island Records and Tectonic Records, have garnered Guido extensive press coverage from specialist underground blogs to The Guardian broadsheet. This album is the first to emerge from the trio, who have
already made an indelible mark on UK underground music. Guido cut his teeth in the embryonic mid-decade Bristol Grime scene, producing instrumental’s for MCs and vocalists culminating in his ‘Unleashed’ mixtape in 2006. His production style shares the ultra vivid colour, melody and rugged texture of golden era Davinche, Skepta and Ruff Squad’s Rapid but also the playfulness and pop sensibility of Timbaland or Neptunes without losing underground edge or appeal.

MEDI027 Tenopause / Discreet Dub – Calibre Deep Medi Musik 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. Calibre flexes his dubstep muscles, here making his second outing on Mala’s Deep Medi imprint – the first was a subtle rolling garage-like affair that had all the hallmarks of Calibre’s drum & bass sound as well as Deep Medi’s deepness. The highlight here has to be ‘Tenopause,’ where Calibre’s knack for subtle rolling percussive bliss is in full effect. The hi-hats draw you in with their fluid forward motion and when they play off the kicks and that addictive bass line pulses with hypnotic energy before flailing off into open space like it’s ricocheted off a passing space cruiser, you’re deep into eyes down zoned out, head nod, arm shake territory. ‘Discreet Dub’ is a more spaced out affair, slowing things down to a half step and upping the atmosphere as the bass seduces you into a state of bliss as it shifts amongst the eerie Middle Eastern melodies. Words: James Balf http://sonicrouter.blogspot.com

Finish copy limited pressing. West Norwood Cassette Libarary aka Bob Bhamra, one Half of DATA 70, presents the debut release on WNCL Recordings. ‘What It Is’ hangs techno stabs sub bas, old scook bleeps and a shuffling break around a dubstep tempo. Brackles on remix duties, stylishly takes essential elements of the original and shifts the tempo to provide another one of his genre bending productions – a psychedelic space jam that’s broken enough for any dancefloor.
Support from BEN UFO, HEADHUNTER, KID KAMELEON, 2562 MARTIN KEMP, PANGEA, SHORTSTUFF,UNTOLD, BOOMNOISE, MARY ANNE HOBBS.

ATM002 Spectrum Falls / Giga – Ital Tek Atom River 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy Promo’s. Gearing up for the release of his highly anticipated second full length ‘Midnight Colour’ on Planet Mu in June, Ital Tek drops two multi-coloured cuts for the second single on his own Atom River label. The A side ‘Spectrum Falls’ is a cascade of arpeggios, steel drum-like melodies and cutting saw-tooth bass. The track is already featuring in DJ sets from the likes of Surgeon and Starkey and is set to appear on the Fabric53 album. ‘Giga’ on the flip is a long time staple and favourite of Ital Tek’s DJ sets. A tough, swung 2-step beat, underpinned with bouncing sub bass and washes of reverberated fuzzed out chords and dub stacks. The first taste of what will be a very busy year for this producer.

PL009 Interpretazioni EP – The Subdivision Paradise Lost 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy promo. The SubDivision round up some of some of dubstep’s heaviest and dirtiest mercenaries for the latest Paradise Lost offering of 4 remixes on the Interpretazioni EP. Roguestar starts things off with what can only be considered an epic remix of an already epic track, Devil’s Kiss. Full throttle from the start and straddling the line between dubstep and breakstep, this track will appeal to anyone needing to destroy the floor at 3AM. Lonewolf goes dirt for his remix of The Messenger, bringing the heat with his notorious filthy style, incorporating heavy synths with nasty breaks. On the flip, Djunya takes things to the dark side of dub, with his re-take on the bizzarely spacey Elephant Walk. Currently a favorite of DJs pushing the deeper sounds, Djunya brings in heavy reverbs, 8-bit stabs, and his trademark bassline business to produce a brilliant and complex sound. Vesicle round off the release with what might be their heaviest production yet on the remix of The Rose. Junglist vibes and bass terrorism combine to produce devastating material showing off the impressive skills of these up-and-comers from Finland. With something for everyone on this release, Paradise Lost is going from strength to strength.

ZER-002 Presenser – Non Person Channel Zero 12″ Vinyl
Helsinki-based Non Person has been crafting his quirky audio sculptures since 2006, embracing the city’s burgeoning experimental music scenes as his playground. From dirty club tracks to audio installations and deep listening, he is no stranger to the numerous ways of compressing organic emotions into expressions in data. The first release bearing the Non Person name, this one is a keeper. GUT001 I’m Not Her – Goldielocks Gut Instinct 12″ Vinyl
A co-production with Benga – the brilliantly sparse, bleepy ‘Green Eyes’ – is going to grab people’s attention, but the other three tracks here are easily as good. Sarah “Goldielocks” Akwisombe makes outstanding modernist electro-pop with dark, emotionally intense lyrical themes and a hefty DJ-friendly dubstep wallop, and is without question a talent who is here to stay. The EP is overall inspired by London, underground music scenes – 2step / garage / grime and dubstep, paranoia, relationships and concealed emotions.

PSQ002 Untitled / 1993 / Horizons – Furesshu Project Squared 12″ Vinyl
This 12″ picks up where Furesshu’s digital releases at a dubstep tempo on Echodub left off but also pushes into the deep, Berlin inspired techno sound that he is presently concentrating on. 1993 sounds fast for its mid 130s tempo, the bass drives the trackís pace and the delay affected stabs provide just enough melody. Horizons feels slower, you could perhaps describe it as a half step track although it twists up the formula for that sub genre. The bass evolves and changes throughout the track, rising and falling, coupled with drones and drums punctuating the track rather than providing a constant element. Untitled marks a change in Furesshuís sound. 4/4 deep techno; 11 minutes of gradual, constant evolution in the melodic parts of the track but the driving, perfectly toned kick drum and hi hats holding the groove in place. Mastered by CGB at Dubplates and Mastering, Berlin, Germany.

ISP003 A Night on the Wonk – Wedge and Aesoteric If Symptoms Persist 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. ‘A Night on the Wonk’ is on an experimental tip with highly addictive horn and chime hooks. The Gemmy remix takes the chime section, gives it some of the well known purple treatment and turns it into a highly distinctive but slightly sickly intro. I say sickly but that’s perhaps because I’ve listened to it a lot of times in a fairly short period of time. However we’re then treated to a bleepy roller with moderate variation to keep things interesting. This makes it perfect for an early set or casual listening. ‘Detached Reality’ crackles its way through some haunting vocals and evil guitar riffs creating a tense but soothing atmosphere – detaching you from reality, sinking you into your seat while your mind starts to play tricks with itself. What are we really here for?

HFRMX006 Mount Kimbie Remixes Pt.1 – Mount Kimbie Hotflush Recordings 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. Hotflush presents the first of two EPs of remixes of Mount Kimbie. On the first, Dom and Kai’s HF021 debut “Maybes” gets a soulful treatment from their sometime collaborator James Blake, as heard on Scuba’s recent SUB:STANCE mix on Ostgut Ton, while “Serged” from HF023 is reshaped into woozy garage by New Yorker FaltyDL. On the flip, DJ Mag’s 2009 Best Breakthrough Producers Instra:mental transform “At Least” into a blissed-out, bass-heavy 4/4 roller.

RSVER001 Detroit Falls / Orpheus – Pariah R&S Records 10″ Vinyl
Finish copy. Debut single for hotly tipped London based producer Pariah on the legendary R&S record label. Pariah is a precocious young talent. Part of the same London bass music scene that has spawned the likes of Burial, Bullion, James Blake, Pangaea and Untold, and part of wider loosely knit scene that includes futuristic, electronic beatsmiths such as Flying Lotus, Hudson Mohawke, Rustie, Falty DL etc. Already an in demand remixer before the release of this debut single. He has remixed current media darlings The XX (Basic Space – easy the best mix of the bunch), Brit winner Ellie Goulding (Under The Sheets), Bombay Bicycle Club (Always Like This) and might have had a hand in a certain Erykah Badu bootleg doing the rounds. The two tracks on this debut single were the his first ever finished productions and snapped up by R&S under the noses of a whole bunch of interested high profile labels. They continue the R&S tradition of releasing forward thinking electronic music, and follow the lineage of Aphex Twin, Model 500, Patrick Pulsinger and Derrick May. The two tracks on this single wear the influences on their sleeve, referencing the hip hop beat collages of Dilla and the moody atmospheric 2 step rhythms of Burial, but still contain the rich Pariah DNA which will be even more apparent on his future R&S singles. The stuff we have heard so far has blown our socks off taking influences from sources as diverse as Levon Vincent, Fennesz and classic Detroit techno as well as the likes of MJ Cole and Steve Gurley. Already a name on the lips of the hip blog crowd (featured on Pitchfork, Gorilla Vs Bear, No Pain In Pop and Rcrd Lbl) and in demand on the European underground DJ circuit this debut 10” is likely to become a collectors item and catapult him onto much bigger things.

Destpub hit’s back with a new signed artist in the dubstep scene – FX Projekt, who’s brought us 2 heavy tunes. ‘Anger’ our main tune here and the most liked by DJs and ravers so far, oscillates between reggae riddim and a fearfull bassline. On the flip ‘Pimp My Bitch’, is a more straight forward hard hittin’ monster sure to devastate dancefloors.

HPR003 Masters of Rave / Movie Boof – SPL & Eye-D Hollow Point Recordings 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. Hollowpoint collective keep on striking banger after banger.. After SPL’s sick Storm EP its time to rack up another 12 with 2 tunes that showcase the SPL dubstep sound like no other! SPL teams up with Dutchie Eye-D for a brand take on this experimental sound.. This tune got made without Eye-D ever hearing a dubstep track so nothing could influence this sick DnB/Hardcore Producer.. Expect Bpm switches heavy destructive basslines… and no wimpy wobbles!! Turn it around for Movie Boof for some SPL action updated 2010 style! See Sam show his dancefloor colors here.. With a drop as big as the empire state building and basslines so hard as the concrete its standing on.. Yes kids these are big boy toys! Parental Advisory is a must!

SPEAKS002 From Havana to Hackney : UK Tropicale Vol.1 – Various Shifting Peaks 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. Cuba ‘s complicated. Standing alone and defiant for decades against it’s bullying neighbours in the North, safeguarding the real gains of revolution : economic equality, decent healthcare, unequalled infant mortality and adult literacy rates for the region. But it’s a one party State, with no independent Trade Unions and no real freedom of movement or expression, and the truth is that you don’t have to be some frothing anti -Castro freak sweating it out in Miami to consider yourself a political refugee from Raul/ Fidels’ Cuba . “Stylo Pohibido” rapper Roll-X left Cuba, Havana in the late 90’s , swerved Miami, and headed straight for Hackney / London instead. His Red Smoke Family studio initially was a base for garage and UK hip-hop artists, then slowly established itself as a base for Cuban émigré Rappers in London (Papo Record, Mr Huevo, Philipsman, Michelito,Kid Africa ) Mixing up hip hop and Reggaeton (“Cubaton” ) , ‘Rejalate’, ‘Tiren’ and ‘Arranca’ here showcase the breadth of that sound : big synths, fat beats, booty bass and urgent raps steeped in Latin-British hip hop culture. ‘Rejalate’ and ‘Tiren’ are battle cries, letting everyone know the Redsmoke Family train is about to burst out of it’s Hackney base, ‘Arranca’ a tropical bomb waiting to go off. In the name of dancefloor solidarity, we called in some UK brothers to collaborate. Leicester’s finest Emvee carries on where his ‘Glitch Dub’ left off, adding rave-bass, rolling percussion and marimbas to Mr Huevo’s ‘Rejalate’ . Hackman uses RRB’s salsa piano riffs and Roll- X’s Rap over his trademark Funky rhythms to get seriously tropical. Midlands bod Max Morrell closes the package out in style with a dubby, jacking, Funky-Fidget hybrid, using a sliver of Arranca’s vocal over slamming beats and big basslines for a pulsating finale.

a1 Mr Huevo – Rejalate (Em Vee Remix)
a2 Tiren – Arrance (Max Morrel Remix)
b1 Roly and the Rio Rhythm Band – (Hackman Remix)
b2 Mr Huevo – Rejalate (original)
b3 Tiren – Arranca (original)

FRJ006 Angels Dub EP – Kuoyàh Frijsfo Beats 12″ Vinyl
Italy’s Marco Donnarumma indicated some of the potential of his Kuoyàh project with last April’s digital release for Frijsfo, earning enthusiastic tips from the likes of Boomkat. Nonetheless, there’s no doubt that his debut on wax ups the game – even in the face of a mix from Sully – by applying a focus capable of working magic in 2010′s open-ended dubstep dance. It’s an overused comparison that probably deserves to be buried, but Angel Dub does reek of Horsepower Productions, or more precisely the ducking 2-step and Basic Channel steals of Benny Ill’s classic Tempa EP with Hatcha. In this case laziness has been avoided, a sunstroked, hazy quality making it sound Kuoyàh’s own, and a judicious electronica dimension expanding the arrangement without falling into the IDM-ish trap of trying to ape something cleverer. That holds true even for the more downtempo Asia, which turns up the dub channel to find hordes of space-echo revenants chasing around. The thoroughly dust-less grooves of common soundsystem samples are absent, though, dropped for an unexpected reversioning of Artificial Intelligence bleep tones. On Soldiers, Donnarumma’s background in electroacoustic music and ambient is more obvious, in common with Chase The Comedown, 2009′s digital EP. It’s equally clear how he’s been sharpening this kind of line since then, refining trademark, half-dismantled bundles of beats to the point where everything is in just the right wrong place. Attention for this EP will understandably bend towards Sully’s Angels Dub remix, not without justification. It’s another great Jack Stevens beat, with pummelling sub-bass, arpeggios scrambled almost in the style of Zomby and an uncharacteristically martial drum track beating out something like an Addison Groove juke pattern. Kuoyàh himself, though, deserves just as much of your time on this one, trust us.

A1 Kuoyàh – Angels Dub
A2 Kuoyàh – Asia
B1 Kuoyàh – Soldiers
B2 Kuoyàh – Angels Dub (Sully Remix)

Coming soon, new D&B label: FOOTPRINTS

Coming soon, new D&B label: FOOTPRINTS

Posted 20 January 2010 | By | Categories: misc, news, tracks | 1 Comment

Introducing the new label ‘Footprints’ from Zero Tolerance set to launch in the next few months. Two big first releases to showcase, audio can be found below, first, over to Zero T to introduce the label…..

We at FOOTPRINTS are setting our stall out to provide something we feel has been missing from the zeitgeist for too long now….

That something is “90′s Music”…..yes folks, its been 10 years since the 90s and we for one miss it more than ever. It was a time when music metamorphasized into so many wonderful, radical, heartfelt and completely new forms. Unfortunately, life and culture moves in cycles and i think we can all agree that the “noughties” was a largely forgettable era for ALOT of reasons.

The complete dominance of consumerism in our world has , combined with the Net 2.0 revolution, sucked much the life out of this thing we call music. But every action has an equal and opposite reaction, and if Rage Against The Machine making the UK Christmas No.1 in 2009 is a signal of the backlash, the we at FOOTPRINTS hope to assist this return to an older Ethic:

Motivated from the Heart , not the Wallet.

So, in this new Decade we aim to regularly provide you with music made for your mind AND body, that will shake any building to its foundations but still stand alone as a piece of music, taking you to another place, time or mood when heard in its entirety.

We decided to start as we mean to go on…with a BANG!

FOOTPRINTS debut 12″ features label owner ZERO T and old friend BAILEY (BBC/METALHEADZ) combining to devastatin effect. “Wasp Factory” , as you may have guessed, is not a love song! Currently a favorite of everyone from Goldie, Ed Rush and Optical, Lemonde to Paradox and Loxy….Not for the feint-hearted!

On the flip of this comes a slice of paranoid funk from Belfasts mercurial Genius Calibre , alongside DnB legend ST Files of SOUL:R fame! “Devil Inside” has that familiar Signature/Soul;r roll to it, but the other elements may surprise a few: Dark gliding, filtered Reese bases undulate under a piano line to put a chill down your spine….something different from the norm!

Support from Hype, Fabio, Grooverider, Bryan G, Alix Perez, Spectrasoul, Commix etc..

Following hot on the heels of PRINT001 is PRINT002 :

ZERO T + MOSUS -”Shallow Grave” and BETA 2 – ” Cabin Phever”

Beta tickles the ivories with aplom, plucks the Double Bass and chops a break in a style remeniscent of that ginger Ninja , Rupert Parkes (aka Photek)..Two words:

FILM-NOIR

Heavy support from the likes of Marcus Intalex, Jubei, Ulterior Motive, Bailey, Loxy, Ed Rush etc.
