SUICIDECD008 Music For Prophet – Klute Commercial Suicide CD x 2
Klute’s first album in 2 years titled ‘Music for Prophet’, on his own ‘Commercial Suicide’ imprint. As on his previous albums, Klute stays true to himself with another non-commercial, yet 100% dancefloor friendly longplayer that – just like his excellent dj sets – offers the right balance of musical tunes alongside some real heavy hitters. Tom Withers, started back in 1994, i think when he was asked for a name to keep exclusive to Certificate 18 records when they agreed on 2 tracks to be his first single. It was there he stayed until 2000 when he delivered his 2nd final album for Cert 18 called Fear Of People. At this point in time Tom decided to make a change and realising no one else was interested in releasing his music decided to set up his own label. With his own platform set up he realized anything was possible, he could even release music by other idiots. Which he did. Perhaps too much. An interesting fact no one knows about Tom Klute is that he is the world’s leading composer of Airport music. Most of you who’ve travelled the friendly skys will have unknowingly heard his works at one time or another. Now we come to 2010 and Klute is ready for fucking more, and more it is with his 6th album “Music for Prophet”. All of Klute’s previous albums have been released to critical acclaim and this one will not stand behind, showing that Klute’s consistency as an artist reaches into 2010 and beyond. The album which also features a collaboration with Dom & Roland will be released as triple coloured vinyl, 2 X CD and Digital download. The additional CD & digital download package promises bonus material including techno tracks.

New D&B Releases

INMIN001 Only Words – Blue Motion Influenza Media 12″ Vinyl
After a lengthy successful run with Influenza Media and Influenza Digital, label owner, Eros comes through with a brand new sub-label for 2010, Influenza Minus. Targeted to a deeper, minimal, experimental sound, the imprint will feature an A list of talent, including Triad, Brandon Miles, Tricky Pat, Blue Motion, Mister Sizef, Unquote, Glen E Ston, Decem, Dominic Ridgeway, Eleven8, Molecular Structures, Material, Reza, CJ Weaver, Omnius and many more. Influenza Minus will be available in vinyl, digital and compact disc format. If you take a trip back to Influenza Media 007, you might remember the fantastic uptempo vibes of Blue Motion’s ‘Only Words VIP.’ Influenza Minus 001 revisits this glorious track, bringing forth the original mix and a remix by Triad, the collaboration of Basti (which is also a collaboration between Madmen and Poets from Phunkfiction) and Henree. The trio has music out on Deep Soul Music, Horizons Music, Critical, X-tinction and Engine Music, and one of their most recent releases Omar featuring Estelle – Lay It Down (Triad Remix) has just been released on Peppermint Jam. In Blue Motion’s original mix, progressive, steppy vibes roll this one in before the melodic hook takes over. Very minimal in nature with a warm bassline, samples and piano lines build endlessly and seamlessly before making way for Triad’s teched out sound. A moody bassline sets the atmosphere with arpeggios of angelic voices, leading into a moment of silence before the drop. Fans of Critical Recordings, Subtitles and Quarantine would love this one.

OK020 OK020 The Remixes – Raiden Offkey 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy This is a landmark release for Offkey Music. It marks twenty releases in the last five years. From singles to EPs to an Album It has been tough but equally rewarding experience. The label has reached beyond our expectations and we wanted to mark it suitably, Thus for this release we are proud to bring you two remixes from the labels back catalogue, courtesy of Inneractive’s Spirit & Shogun Audio’s Icicle. Raiden- M82: Spirit Remix: The original track was a rolling yet edit heavy drum work out from Raiden, big on the bass and rich textures as you would expect. M82 signalled a new concentration on bass weight from Raiden and began to prick the ears of deejays. Spirit was one of the first to pick up on the track so there was no better choice for the rework, Spirit has further stripped back the track to its core elements and has in turn found another groove to exploit, A great rework from a dance music veteran. Pounding bass and stepping drums are the order of the day!
Raiden & Khanage: King Stays King: Icicles Royal Treatment: ‘Kings’ is a track that has achieved the honour of being the most played track in the labels history, the list of deejays who played the original reads like a who’s who of drum n bass. There were few choices for remixing the track, Icicle was number one the list and to the labels pleasure, the coldest producer in the land jumped at the chance & delivered everything you would expect, juggernaught drums laced with only the best bass from the Dutch wonder. As soon as the track went public the reactions were instantaneous, rounding off a landmark release for Offkey Music. Heres to the future!

WARM016 Hydrate / Hydrate (Consequence Remix) – DJG Warm Communications 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy Known in many circles for his wonderful dubstep excursions comes San Francisco native “DJG” with his excellent take on Drum & Bass. This is his first release when it comes to D&B and we are very proud to be releasing these amazing tunes! Welcome aboard! A. HYDRATE A deep menacing vibe kicks things off a a steady kick while claps and thick snare are sprinkled throughout leading up to a thunderous reese that will challenge any system. Muffled horns and vocals keep things interesting leading up to a subterranean breakout takes things into dubby territory! A truly wonderful piece of original music! AA. HYDRATE ( CONSEQUENCE REMIX ) Known for his work with the Autonomic crew, Consequence seemed the perfect match to recreate an already wonderful tune and does a great job with this remix. A hazy intro with dusty crackles leads into the tune’s signature kick with claps. Dubby stabs with a drawn out horn take things deeper before the bass punches through. Consequence has taken his signature minimal sound and added upon the original for a truly deep, original recreation. These are the kind of remixes we like! Dub Dub Dub!!!

Finish copy. State Of Mind check out the darker side of D&B with this horror movie inspired 12”. Krueger is gnarly kiddie killer of a tune, The only amen track the kiwi lads have done. Big Support from the usual suspects. Space chase is a bit more of roller, and already an underground favorite. Listen closely to hear Stu wailing on the axe.

INNA032 All I Need (Anile Remix) / Tone Two – Spirit Inneractive Music 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. Inneractive Music presents one of our most anticipated releases of the year. Already causing a stir with releases for Renegade Hardware, Horizons and Cylon in the works, Anile steps up with a deep, moody warehouse rework of Spirit’s classic ‘All I Need’, brimming with reverberating beats, growling bass and searing pads. This one has already found a place in the sets of a host of major players old and new and has caused a massive reaction wherever it’s heard. Flip for Spirit doing a rework of his own, updating ‘Tone Track’ into the minimal pounding beats and aggressive acidic pumping of ‘Tone Two’.

Finish copy. After going on a hiatus from releasing in 2007, Play:Musik – the record label founded by DJ Flight in 2005 – is back and ready for action! With a reputation for pushing quality controlled Drum & Bass in arrange of styles: including the Dub reggae sound of Visionary (Fallen Angles/No Love) the pounding breakbeat-y dancefloor feel of Heist (Shut Down/Why Do You Hurt Me?) or the deep and edgy rolling vibe of Survival (Gravity Borne /Stasis); Play:Musik is also credited with kick starting the career of Techno influenced producer Martyn releasing his first ever 12” (Nxt 2 U / Deepwood) to widespread acclaim.
BMT003 Natural History Remixes: Part 1 – Blu Mar Ten Blu Mar Ten 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. This summer, Blu Mar Ten follows up the success of their 2009 LP ‘Natural History’ with a two-part set of remixes that bring together the finest in fresh and established talent from across the globe. DJ support is coming in from right across the scene, including London Elektricity, Friction, Doc Scott, Lynx, John B, Nookie and many more.
Overwhelm (Seba remix): Seba assaults the calm of the original ‘Overwhelm’ with a battery of old skool breaks and signature cosmic sweeps that recall the highlights of the Good Looking Records era. Lifting the tune away from the bedroom and up towards the dancefloor Seba’s remix has immediately become a favourite of some of the biggest names in d&b, effortlessly demonstrating why he’s remained at the top of the game for more than 15 years.
Seba’s remix of ‘Overwhelm’ is featured on DJ Friction’s forthcoming mix CD for Ministry of Sound. Believe Me (Bop remix): Bop takes the opposite route with his interpretation of ‘Believe Me’, opening up a bottomless well of reverb and throwing the components of the original into it, piece by piece. The result is a beautiful inversion of the original, showcasing the near-beatless melancholy the young Russian has become famous for.

RAMP032CD Idiot Box – P.U.D.G.E Ramp Recordings CD
Although you may not have yet heard his name, P.U.D.G.E. has been bubbling up in U.S. beat scene for many years. At age 9, his father gave him a Bass, a Juno synth, a DX drum machine and a Tascam 4 track. He encouraged the boy to start making his own music; P.U.D.G.E. got the bug. By the time young P.U.D.G.E. (thus called because at school he was always extra medium, or less than chubby) hit 13, he had discovered turntableism, and started DJing at house parties around NYC. By his late teens, he had emerged as a promising emcee, standing next to many of the well-known emcees from the Lyricist Lounge; including Mos Def & El P. Still producing, P.U.D.G.E.’s music was starting to gain attention, and his first beat was released on the Vinyl Junkies debut EP. After hearing about the emerging beat scene in L.A., he moved there in 2004, and started getting a few production credits under his belt, including cuts for Rawkus Records and Stacey Epps. After circulating some of his instrumental beat tapes, interest for P.U.D.G.E. started to gain momentum. Early this year, P.U.D.G.E. headed up All Cty’s L.A. series, on a split 10” with Dibiase, preceeding releases from Ras G, Samiyam & Matthewdavid.

RNG010 Jays Reese / The Intro – L.D vs Clue Kid Ringo Records 12″ Vinyl
A strand emerging within dubstep is a mutant jungle strain within the sound. Needless to say, it’s impossible to imagine dubstep without the DNA of jungle: it’s prominent in so many ways and places, from Burial’s Foul Play influences to Loefah’s love of the sound itself. Members of the scene used to DJ jungle, from N Type and Kode9 to Jason (Transition’s mighty mastering engineer). In fact the whole “dark” component that makes dubstep distinct from UK garage has its roots in El-B’s twin love of Metalheadz and 2step. Jungle is less an influence on dubstep, more like the foundation on which the whole scene, via garage, was built. But in spite of all that, a re-emphasis on jungle-flavored dubs is emerging within dubstep; songs that use chopped breaks, epic pads, and vocal samples like it was 1994, from producers LD and Cluekid. words by Martin Clark

Break the habit returns with 3 tracks from Antisocial members Quest and Harry Craze. On the a-side real love is a late night cruise along the west coast, with pimped out synths, shuffling drums, neon chords and a menacing bassline. On the flip is Quests mellow and uplifting roller ‘Mahogany’. With a boogalicous drum beat, tropical atmospheres and a soulful bass, this one has been played by Mary Anne Hobbs, G double and the rest of Antisocial camp. Also on the flip is hypnotic head nodder; ‘West Kebab’ by Harry Craze. Gritty drums, dreamy rhodes and rolling bass line.

HENCH018 Disgustin Justin / Metalfoot – Lost Hench 12″ Vinyl
Having already graced Hench with his debut release, Ironhide / Slaughtered, Justin Cantor, a.k.a Lost, brings his latest batch of weaponry. With his debut releases on Hench being deemed strong enough to appear next to some of the scene’s biggest producers, such as Jakes, Komonazmuk and Chasing Shadows. Since that first release, Lost has been a regular feature in Get Darker TV’s live shows and this new offering will not disappoint fans. a. Distustin Justin – Cutting straight to the chase, Lost captures the sub-bass perspective of 90’s dance culture perfectly with Disgustin Justin. With the swinging bassline making creating a raw and dubby atmosphere, you can immediately tell that this was built to be played on a big soundsystem. Scattered high-hats and glitches keep the momentum rolling forward solidly. Estranged vocal in the background and the percussive drums add to the tripped-out mood of this production. From the evidence shown here, there is no doubt that Lost’s sound is maturing. aa. An eerie soundscape guides us into Metalfoot – leading you into a false sense of security whilst building to the drop. And when this fat, chrome-guilded bassline drops in you gather an understanding of where the inspiration for this track’s name came from. Slow-drawing snare, pulsating sub- bass and ticking high hats provide the ingredients for this dread-inducing track. This one’s a real grower and is going to be turning heads when it gets dropped on the dancefloor. DJ support for both tracks from: Jakes, Mistajam, Hatcha, Cyrus, N-Type, Darkside, Noah D, Datsik, Breezy and more.

Taz Buckfaster.. A name thats been popping alot recently and no wonder. Cause this Scotsman has been making some extreme riddims! A producer that can flex to any side if he wants to and for his Subway debut he concocted 2 heavyweight dancefloor monsters that will leave the crowd begging for more. “Recovery” strikes like a ton of bricks. The heavy bleeped out intro is only camouflage cause after the towering drop itll smash your face in proper. Nasty gnarling midranges terrorise this heavyweight tune giving it that special Subway edge. On “Headlock” Taz shows he can wobble his gut any way he can… Get ready for a epic drunken wobbling style track thats bound to create pits around the globe… The unexpected edits give this tune the WOW factor Subway has been craving all along.
HRMN012 On The Low – Randy Barracuda Harmonia 12″ Vinyl
After a decade of bitter tears and hopeless trying our Finnish funkster Randy Barracuda has finally reached his ultimate goal as an artist. He has managed to combine successfully the music of his two favourite composers: Klaus Schulze and Lil’ Jon. ‘Impossible’, You may say. Well, don’t believe the hype. Take a listen to Streisand Effect’s booming crunk beats, heavy basses, epic synthesizer leads and cristallic arpeggios and choose for yourself. Dubstep – hero Tes La Rok’s outstanding remix stays true to the original but adds some extra dubby aesthetics to Randy’s storming soccer stadium skweee vibes. Backside of the record is dominated by more moody and naturalistic atmospheres. Tako To Ama (The Dream of the Fisherman’s Wife) is Randy’s homage to the grandiose tradition of Japanese tentacle erotica. In its Asiatic moods and sharp synthesizer stabs You can almost feel the slippery tentacles of an octopus wandering around in your bodily cavities! Record comes to an end with Lebensraum, an eight minute long meditative disco reggae. On Lebensraum the listener finds a totally new aspect of Randy Barracuda’s aural art: gone are the rapid staccato melodies and usual stiff funkiness. Maybe Credit00, a mysterious East-German bongo player, gave the track its naturalistic charm and the comfy aura of a forest in the springtime.

PSQ003 Pinpoint / Diver – L-OW Project Squared 12″ Vinyl
Finish Copy Promo’s. The third release on Project Squared features on it’s A side two tracks of Techno infused Dubstep from L-OW, an Estonian producer who has been building a reputation and discography since 2008 with a string of excellent releases. The first track, “Pinpoint”, has an energetic drive and pace despite it’s syncopated individual rhythmical elements. L-OW fuses these disparate elements to make a dance floor track with impact and depth. L-OW’s second track is Diver; a more reflective and introspective piece than Pinpoint, this is not a recording to play at the height of a set, but is more a piece focussed on mood and depth. On the B side, Bristol based artist Furesshu remixes Diver, taking elements of the original 140bpm Dubstep track and applying them to a 127bpm Techno framework. After a well received debut release on Project Squared that has garnered DJ play from the likes of Sigha , Marcel Dettmann and Ben Klock, Furesshu has produced a superb remix as a follow up. He strips back the original to a haunting, industrial, emotive melodic element, and drives the pace of the remix with cymbal lead drum lines and expansive bass. Mastered at Optimum, Bristol, United Kingdom.

ASC004 Thru The Blinds – DJ Kromestar Cloqworq Recordings 12″ Vinyl
This white label promo release needs no introduction as one of the leading pioneers of UK Dubstep provides the second release written especially for Anti Social’s Cloqworq Records. DJ Kromestar has proved his talent time and time again over the past four years through a string of releases with the infamous Deep Medi label and Dubstar Records, alongside others. Kromestar has broken boundaries from the very start of his career producing club smashers such as ‘Get Up’ and ‘Kalawanji’ aswell as bringing to you the more soulful, meditational vibes such as ‘Galactic War’ from the debut album ‘My Sound’ and not to mention a barrage of anthems he released on the mix compilation last year entitled ‘The Other Side’ which he describes as strictly experimental 140. DJ Kromestar has and will be one to watch for the foreseeable future standing as one of the most exciting and not to mention groundbreaking producers to have entered the genre. ‘Thru The Blinds’ is a clever combination of sub low bass pressure with the eerie yet emotive atmospherics to put any dancefloor into a meditational trance – Dark and moody dub vibes with a killer low end sub over a tribal beat pattern in true Kromestar style. This is a real stomper of a hit. ‘Love’ takes a different stance on the B side delving into the more experimental side of this producer’s catalogue – smooth, eclectic pads dropping into low down sub stabs over another unconventional but highly effective beat. This represents the other side to the anti social sound which can only be described of as the deeper liquid Dubstep sound in trademark style.
Both tracks have had support on the highly acclaimed rinse fm on a weekly basis (WWW.RINSE.FM) and are receiving heavy rotation from DJs such as SKREAM, MALA AND N-TYPE in the clubs and not to mention major dubstep icons such as HATCHA from KISS 100 and MARYANNE HOBBS from RADIO 1, This highlights the versatility of these tracks and the potential to cross into Dj sets from different genres. These are both long awaited releases having caused a lot of interest on dubstepforum.com as well as having been reviewed on various portals and online magazines such as GetDarker.com and also residentadvisor.net – a real must for all serious dubsteppers worldwide

Quest

Quest’s 4th release on DEEP MEDi ‘Smooth Skin’ showcases his progression, diversity and forward thinking as a producer. With it’s lush and dreamy opening chords, thumping bass kick, layered percussion and hypnotic vibes, you would be forgiven in forgetting about the B-line until it’s speaker shifting impact almost halfway through the track! Quest showing with ‘Smooth Skin’ that he takes as much inspiration from Detroit legends such as Moodymann and Theo Parrish as he does from label owner Mala (DMZ) and his very own Antisocial Entertainment Crew. ‘Wind Tunnel’ however on the flip sees Quest bouncing back to his Gangsta Boogie vibes for which he is so well known. Heavyweight, frenetic breakneck percussion, insane wall of bass, hard soulful and jazzy influences taking you on a mystical journey into outer space!

FFLP1 The Cocoon LP – Chook Full Force Recordings CD
There was once a time in drum & bass where to try your hand at other genres was practically an insult to the staunch elitism of the genre. Drum & bass knew best, and what it knew most preciously of all was to soak up outside influences like a sponge, then regurgitate them in its own 170-ish-bpm breakbeat style – with an added middle finger to anyone who dared question the futurethinking outlook of the protagonists involved.
Now, more than a decade since artists like Ed Rush & Optical, Source Direct and Matrix were hailed as the sonic beat scientists of the millennium, it’s become trendy to mash together a whole bunch of genres and styles all under one artist alias roof. Chase & Status made dubstep and drum & bass spiritual and literal
dancefloor partners in just a few swift moves and Sub Focus turned his hand to bassline house alongside classic jungle and technoelectro infused D&B on his recent self-titled debut album. Meanwhile Annie Mac has practically made an institution amongst dance music fans by splicing together all styles with a common theme – incredible, filthy basslines and a cheeky attitude. But amongst all the multi-genre mashing and the come-and-go tunes of the day, it can be hard to pick out something which has a shelf life longer than the next epileptic bassline to quake the local dancefloor or the latest remix from a moribund LFO maniac, slowly descending into blog house madness. However, into that void steps a producer with a history for sticking to his aesthetic guns; a producer who’s not afraid to touch the other side of the genre explosion; a producer who arrives at the party armed with a suitcase full of subtlety and an outlook more akin to the artists of old. Chook is that artist, and The Cocoon, Chook’s debut long-playing project, moves beautifully through drum & bass, minimal techno and stunning ambient soundscapes without pausing for breath. Now, five years since he started Full Force, Chook dlives deeper into his influences, spreading his wings as a producer without resorting to cheap tricks and sheep-like trend following. From the growling bass of Optimus Prime through to the inchperfect elements of Time Running Backwards and the building, spacious progression of Toontown, The Cocoon is a lesson in staying true to your beliefs and sticking the middle finger to those who dare question your motives. Some might consider that a lost art in drum & bass these days.

RECIPE007 Transfer / Block 305 – Skeptical Ingredients Records 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. (EACH COPY COMES WITH A FREE RECIPE CARD FROM THE ARTIST)
After the success of Phobia’s giant 12’ on Ingredients (and killer Beef stew) the next instalment comes from an up & coming artist making waves in 2010. Ashley ‘Skeptical’ takes a step towards the deep, dubby vibes of underground Drum & Bass, harking back to oldskool Metalheadz with “Transfer” a bassline roller. Flip for ‘Block 305’ for some half-time mechanical minimalism, with it’s barrage of bass pinning you against the wall. With production like this you know this guy has plenty more to come, and this is the first of 3 12”s signed to the label. You’ve been warned! Ashley comes correct with his steak dish

SUBTLE013 Tensions – Sub Subtle Audio 12″ Vinyl
Finish copies. Subtle Audio makes it’s return to the vinyl fold with this brand new 3 tracker by Austria’s Sub. Living at high altitude in his native land, it comes as no surprise that these tracks exude an icy sound. “Tensions” is a beautifully delicate piece of D&B. Sharp snares, hi-hats and drifting atmospheres are underpinned by a sub-zero bass sound. Suddenly the beats thicken and become twisted and glitchy. It’s almost as if a frozen lake you were standing on is beginning to crack and give way! “Halleluja” is on the half-speed tip and will not even sound like D&B to most. Choir voices are interrupted by a stepping beat and a shuddering, dirty bassline, offset by a world of icey atmospherics, echoes and feedback. This sound is truly from another planet. “Hydra” is something a little different for Subtle Audio – clocking in at 120bpm but it certainly doesn’t sound like house or techno! It’s a nicely mellow track with a lurching, jerky beat that is filtered and reversed but always rhythmical. Dark Rhodes keys and then a bright piano line ensure a nice variance of mood in this beautifully balanced piece.

MEDI024 Protecting Hands Remixes – Clouds Deep Medi Musik 12″ Vinyl
Following on from the highly acclaimed original productions ‘Protecting Hands (Parts 1 and 2)’ released mid-2009 on DEEP MEDi Musik, Clouds have enlisted Berkane Sol’s label owner Geiom and experimental electronic minimalists Isan to dissect and rebuild. Kamal Joory AKA Geiom has been busy producing since the late 90’s pushing the downtempo and ambient sounds of IDM and merging them with his love of raw grime and garage instrumentals. In 2006 Geiom started the ever-reliable Berkane Sol imprint releasing his own work (most notable the stunning ‘Reminssin’ featuring Marita) but also giving Brackles and Shortstuff their first outing on wax. Geiom’s remix of ‘Protecting Hands’ sketches out a dreamy, beautiful half-step approach with his love of electronica clearly coming heavily in to play, complimenting the original ghostly vocal perfectly. One of his best productions we think? Isan have been making minimalistic electronics since the mid 90’s with killer releases on Morr Music and Static Craven. Clouds are clearly fans of their work and this comes across in their remix as they dissect the original and create a blissful, beatless journey, permitting the sound to develop organically, with their intuitive grasp of melody and their intelligent manipulation of sound dictating its direction.

EX7003 Subsonic – Excision / Excision & Noiz EX7 12″ Vinyl
Ever wondered what the apocalyptic soundtrack to invading robots ready to destroy the world would sound like? Well you’re about to find out as Excision drops the latest 12” on his own EX7 label. Following the immense dancefloor killer ‘Swagga’, supported heavily by Rusko and Mistajam, Excision steps up on the A side of EX7003 to deliver ‘Subsonic’, an incredible blend of super-tough beats and grinding bass. Opening with prophecies of robotic doom before stamping down its mark of totalitarian authority, this one destroys the dance each and every time. Flip over and Excision teams up with Noiz to create ‘Force’ a shifting tumultuous slab of whirling and interchanging basslines that create a wall of sonics just powerful enough to crack a rib or two. Haunting FX and skipping percussive rhythms pave the way for utter destruction.

SPEAKS001 The Always EP – Hackman Shifting Peaks 12″ Vinyl
With a label HQ based half way up a cliff in deepest North Devon, and an artist roster that includes a Hampshire lad living in Leeds, a crew of Cubans holed up in Hackney, and the hottest new thing to come up out of Leicester since Willie Thorne hung up his cue, new label Shifting Peaks won’t be easy to pin down geographically . And musically it promises to be no less diverse, covering everything from the deeper end of Funky and 2010 Garage to Cuban Hip Hop and dubbed out Beats. Kicking things off in style for the label is Leeds resident Hackman, who’s ‘Pistol in Your Pocket’ tune was one of the highlights of the recent Fabric/Elevator comp. Lead cut ‘Always ‘ employs the vocal talents of newcomer Harper Lake over a bumping UKF/Nu Garage backing that’s both warm and deep, combining proper hooks with easy dancefloor appeal. Fast rising Londoner Brackles then takes the song and straps on a phuture – garage turbo-charger, adding techno textures and slamming beats for a crunching, dynamic rework. An instrumental version of Hackmans’ original works in it’s own right , and to round the package off, the dubheads also get ‘Multicultural’, a deep, percussion driven roller perfect for late night jams and red eyed-headphone excursions alike.

HDB034 Hylo / Suzuran (LV & Quarta 330 Remix) – LV & Quarta 330 / Dong HyperDub 12″ Vinyl
Two collaborative tracks from Quarta 330 and LV, made when the pair met the day after Hyperdub’s fifth anniversary party in November last year. These tunes exemplify the kind of meeting of minds where the best of both procucers comes to the surface, as Quarta 330’s 8-bit abstraction and melodic sense contrasts nicely with LV’s characteristic lush figures and shuffling rhythms. ‘Hylo’ finds 8-bit melodies made from rebuilt Gameboys and sonar-like bleeps weaved into the crunchy snap of a reverse drum beat and warm chords, breaking down into a sonorous motif before stepping up the pace once more. It’s an energetic mix of brittle and lush sounds. On the AA side, ‘Suzuran’ is a joint remix of Quarta 330’s own remix of Japanese chiptunes artists Dong. LV places the slurring space pop of the Japanese vocoder vocal melody inside a remix constructed from syncopated drums and offkey bleeping patterns. The results are catchy and alien, as melodic sweetness is juxstaposed with the tension of the setting.

Set to shine in 2010, Mizz Beats is the 22 year-old from Hackney (East London) who aided and abetted labelmate Silkie in the creation of one of this year’s certified bangers: ‘Purple Love’. Earning her stripes in the midst of the UK’s grime scene, she has already produced for the likes of Dizzee Rascal, Jammer and Lady Sovereign and she is undoubtedly one of the Anti Social Entertainment clique’s brightest prospects alongside Quest, Silkie, Kromestar, J5, Harry Craze and Heny G.

Mizzy’s debut 12” on DEEP MEDi Musik showcases both her versatility and a lightness of touch that belies her years. ‘My World’ marries sloping half-step drums, offhand tom rolls and cleverly constructed synth work, conjuring a wickedly melodious groove. On the flip, ‘The Jester’ zips off in a different direction, carried by tougher, stripped-back drums and myriad 8-bit Gameboy bleeps, zaps and bumps. An altogether clubbier affair, but no less sophisticated, fans of Gemmy and Joker will undoubtedly approve.

‘My World’ b/w ‘The Jester’ is released on Mala’s DEEP MEDi Musik imprint on 25th January 2010.

New D ‘n’ B Releases

EXITLP004 Live For Never LP (Vinyl Format) – Consequence Exit Records 12″ Vinyl x 4
Consequence was introduced to d-Bridge via mutual friends whilst touring New Zealand and after listening to some of his music, dbridge knew that he had found an artist with the potential to create an album suited to the labels ethos of writing music from the heart and not necessarily directed at the dancefloor. d-Bridge had just started his Autonomic podcast series alongside Instra:mental with the intention of showcasing and developing artists who were thinking outside of the conventional Drum & Bass box. Consequence has become a core member of this crew who have gone on to secure an Autonomic residency at the world famous Fabric night-club and turn many heads from outside the genre such as Laurent Garnier, Skream and Actress to name a few. The album contains collaborations with fellow Autonomic artists Instra:mental, ASC and d-Bridge and is a good representation of the versatility which Autonomic is becoming renowned for. Each track is a piece of music in its own right, but the whole album is best listened to as one long piece that flows harmonically from start to finish through different emotions and atmospheres.

NONPLUS003 Porcelain – ASC Nonplus Records 12″ Vinyl
Instra:mental welcome a new addition to the Nonplus+ camp who goes by the name of ASC. This producer is by no means new to making music, but recently his productions have become an essential addition to dBridge & Instra:mental’s Autonomic podcast series and also frequents their club sets.
a) ASC ‘Porcelain’ is a perfect illustration as to why Instra:mental have been paying ASC’s music so much attention. It begins with a glitchy yet groove-laden beat coupled with dramatic piano and fx stabs, then fills out with a warm drawing sub bass and smooth atmospheres. As the track progresses and you think it’s reached its climax, ASC cleverly layers an almost oriental sounding percussion stab to accompany the bass line and picks up the track to another level. This track is a prime example of being able to express the utmost with the minimum.
aa) ASC ‘Focus Inwards’ is the deeper side of this 12” and as the title suggests, takes you on a journey into yourself. Fully charged with progressive chords and melodies alongside electric sounding drum fills and percussion, the arrangement, musical content and pure elegance of this track give us an insight into ASC’s compositional abilities and potential for the future.

FKZLTD021 The Place In Between / Man The Weather – Dose / Blackplanet Fokuz Recordings 12″ Vinyl
Hold tight people cause Fokuz Limited returns with yet another release that does the Limited side label of Fokuz proud! Dose returns to Fokuz Limited for a solo 12 inch that is the embodiment of the Fokuz limited sound! gentle yet ruff. soft with a hard edge yet still keeping that feel that is Fokuz. The A side is The Place Between which shows a different side of Dose. A more educated sound that’ll drop well in those early sets. Broken beats which get followed by an heavy bass line like in the good old days! Flip it over for another Dose production featuring newcomer Blackplanet! Man The Weather starts off all atmospheric and keeps the rolling vibe alive like only dose can do. But it switches over to the neuro side of things just so it can turn back to the atmospheric sounds. A perfect tune for people who play both sides of the DnB spectrum.

Get ready for two extremely driving tracks that come down like a meteor strike, only leaving lots of dust when they are done.

Sabotage has crossover written all over it… With its steady kicks it could easily be a tune of the hardcore people out there to bring some diversity to their sets! Again the PRSPCT flagship delivers! heavy, hard and most inportantly.. FRESH!

MEDI022 WA6 – Harry Craze Deep Medi Musik 12″ Vinyl
Harry Craze part of the Anti Social Entertainment alongside Silkie, Quest, Mizz Beats, Jay Five and others. Fresh from his ‘French Knickers’ 12″ collaboration with Silkie on the Break the Habit label, Harry delivers two of his own productions ‘Wa6″ and ‘Thirty Six Hours’ to devastating effect, showcasing his unique production skills and bringing fresh forward thinking sounds to the label. DJ MAG – Dubstep Single Of The Month – “Some tunes really hit you in the soul receptors, and ‘Wa6″ by West Londoner and antisocialite Harry Craze blows dust off the 45, and moistens the eyeballs. If J Dilla made dubstep, you’d get the same feeling; sweet strings bounce off mood-drenched synths and circulate the warmth. And whilst this won’t set the dancefloors alight, it will start a fire in the soul. The flip is great too, but you’d be forgiven for never listening to it“.

AR030 Last Drop / In the Background – MRK 1 / Cyrus Eight:FX 12″ Vinyl
Both MRK1 and Cyrus’ records can consistency be heard all over the world tearing through your local club’s subs and blowing up the speakers in your 10 watt radio as you listen to any of the number of electronic DJs on BBC Radio 1, 1xtra, Kiss FM etc now supporting the bass heavy genre that dominates music’s lowest frequencies. For this 12” two of Dubstep’s most established artists return to Eight:FX for the next in the labels Future:Dubstep series. To coincide with the release of MRK1′s Future:Dubstep:03 compilation, him and Cyrus each present two massive chest cavity shattering, club smashes which have received support from some of the biggest names in the scene and the likes of Kiss FM and BBC 1xtra on Crissy Criss’ Drum & Bass show. MRK1 was there from the start. He’s appeared on every major Dubstep radio station, as well as BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra and Kiss FM. He’s toured the world, and been featured in magazines from RWD and Knowledge to Mixmag, and this months I-DJ, making him without shadow of doubt one of the most established players in the Dubstep scene, ever. Cyrus is another of Dubstep’s veterans. Having released on legendary labels including Hyperdub and Techtonic, played all over the globe at the genre’s most prestigious events and venues, as well as on BBC Radio 1. Having taken almost a year away from vinyl following Hatcha Vs Kromestar’s Brother’s Grim LP, and concentrating on a host of successful digital releases, Eight:FX recently returned to 12” for a series of vinyl to coincide with their Future:Dubstep compilations. 01 was mixed by Kiss FM’s Hatcha while 02 was mixed by newcomers Bare Noize. The first Future: Dubstep 12” release featured tracks from both of these artists and was the start of a new push for Eight:FX to build back up vinyl fan’s awareness of the label. This is the second step, featuring tracks that have been supported around the world, and released alongside the 2 x CD compilation mixed by MRK1 (which contains over 45 completely exclusive tracks from other Dubstep superstars including Crazy D, Hatcha, and Kromestar) this is sure to see Eight:FX not only topping digital genre charts but also in the top echelons of the physical charts once again.

KOKESHI002 Afterlife – Lung Kokeshi 12″ Vinyl
Kokeshi is the new label from Alley Cat, DJ/producer and co-director of ESP Agency with 12 years+ of music industry experience. Lung : Afterlife / Time – 19-year-old discovery Lung, from Cardiff has only been producing for a short time but has managed to make some of the most moving sounds this year. Having already featured on Mary Anne Hobbs’ BBCs Radio 1 Experimental show, he’s been slowly building a grassroots following through two local DJ residencies and online support (dubstepforum.com) and will undoubtedly reach a much bigger audience as his first release on Kokeshi takes flight. ‘Afterlife’ features layers of pads and effects with an eerie vocal and gut wrenching sub. Support on Radio 1, and various UK and international web and college radio stations. One for the floor, and one for the ipod. ‘Time’ offers a nod to old school d’n’b/jungle with its breaks and its piano riff, yet Lung still pulls off his signature emo-dub-tastic style with ease, making it sound new and fresh. Given the thumbs up by TRG and Vaccine.

INFRA003 Infra003EP – Spatial Infrasonics 10″ Vinyl
The Spatial 10-inch EP series reaches its third and most visceral installment yet with ’90729′ and ’90807′. Spatial’s inaugural release on Infrasonics in late 2008 was enthusiastically welcomed by listeners, DJsand critics, as was its follow-up earlier this year, a reaction attributable to the producer’s instinctive fit with one of the prevailing moods in dubstep – in reclaiming the fluidity of 2-step garage and reappropriating dub-techno processes, these productions capably stand alongside those of Martyn or 2562. More than the execution of these satisfying tropes, though, their strength lies in a spooky attunement to the faint vibrations of a whole spectrum of dancefloor epiphanies, presenting in some ways a crisper, less melancholy counterpart to Burial, or even James Kirby’s projects as The Caretaker, but from the right side of the comedown. This latest collection of tracks, possibly Spatial’s most evocative, takes indirect inspiration from experience of the kind of ’91-era Euro-rave documented in Warlock’s recent mix for FACT magazine. Removed as the comparison might seem given their wrought, contemporary sound, vestiges are detectable, such as the transmuted hoover basslines, hollow panic-synths and ectoplasmic vocal trails that at the peak of these tunes threaten to fill out Spatial’s characteristically airy, open-textured mix. Correspondingly, ’90729′ and ’90807′ all constitute conscious attempts to aim more squarely at the dancefloor, with success already coming in the form of DJ support from Untold, Incyde, T++, and Dubwar NYC resident Dave Q.

Danish synth-rock band Turboweekend’s first release in the UK is an atmospheric yet heartfelt cry of regret on the A-side and a jumpy celebration of the end of work obligations (with an ironic twist) on the B-side, featuring the royal company of Bristol’s finest, Joker, and indie prince Russell Lissack from Bloc Party.
”I am tipping them for very, very big things here in UK. The Lead singers voice is amazing.(…)This is huge.” -Mista Jam (live on BBC1 and 1 Extra)
”Natty Danes Turboweekend’s angsty single ’Trouble Is’ is like One Republic’s “Apologize” as seen through the bass lens of Blank Dogs (…) It’s an excursion into the dark crevices of your feelings, but don’t EVEN try and tell us you’re not at least a little emo.” – The

UM001 Natural Progression / In The Raw (D Bridge Remix) – Break / Mako and Andy Skopes Utopia Music 12″ Vinyl
Utopia Music is a new Bristol based drum & bass label founded by Mako, a DJ/producer with longstanding residencies at Dissident in Bristol, Spectrum in London and promoter of the infamous Utopia parties that have played host to guests including Randall, Fierce, Break, dBridge, Sabre, Lynx, Storm, Squire and more since starting in 2006. Opening the label’s musical account, Bristol resident and long-time Utopia supporter Break (Symmetry) steps up to deliver Natural Progression. On the reverse, dBridge (Exit Records) remixes a track created by label boss Mako and Andy Skopes (Good Looking) back in 2006 that remains unreleased despite a large amount of DJ support and an appearance on Fierce & Break’s cover-mount mix CD for ATM Magazine. DJ support: LTJ Bukem, Doc Scott, Fierce, Makoto, Bailey, Loxy, Total Science, SpectraSoul, DJ Lee, Flight, Instra:mental, Survival, Invaderz, Squire, Insiders and many more.

SCULT003 Swoop / Funk Me Hard – Sleeper Cell & Maztek Subculture 12″ Vinyl
Usually when we think of Italy we think of designer labels, opera, fast cars, fine art and fine foods. Italian based Subculture Records however are looking to add firin’ drum & bass to that list as they present their third release from label owner Maztek and UK producers Sleeper Cell. Batton down the hatches, things are about to get rowdy! Sci-fi sounds capes are rife as Sleeper Cell and Maztek team up for ‘Swoop’ to open up Scult003 with its rich textured break, eerie pads and industrial fx. After a tense dropout it’s time to move out as the super-sick bass rocks into the mix along with the rugged beats to provide a great example of the neurofunk sound. Fans of Noisia, Break and the like will lap this one up. Then Maztek goes it alone for ‘Funk Me Hard’, another excursion into the dark twisted world of techy d&b but with as the name suggests, a little more funk. Absolute carnage is what this one causes on the drop of filthy bass, warped vox and yet more production wizardry. Crank it up! DJ support so far from Ed Rush, State Of Mind, Chris Renegade, Optiv, Masheen, Axiom and more.

FALLOUT001 Phantom / Razzle-Dazzle – N.Phect Fall Out 12″ Vinyl
Fall Out’s debut release comes courtesy of Berlin based producer N.Phect. Phantom kicks off with rolling beats that are constantly developed throughout the track and added to with N.Phect’s unmistakeable brand of dirty funk. Razzle Dazzle is less of an easy going affair as enormous amounts of bass right from the off build towards a disgusting, pounding drop that devastates dancefloors. Both tracks have been causing carnage across the world thanks to DJ support from Ed Rush, Black Sun Empire, Teebee, Cause 4 Concern, State of Mind, Phace, Prolix, Bulletproof, Misanthrop and Cern to name but a few.

Icarus Audio knows good music when they hear it.. After the well received first release its time to bussout with 2 of New Zealands fastest rising stars Cern & Menace! With their releases on Renegade Hardware, Citrus, Syndrome Audio, Horizons they’re quietly stirring up a storm of releases. Icarus has snapped up Cern’s heavy “Down & Out” track thats just so Cern it hurts.. Feel the oldskool vibes rave on this. It sounds like Mr Cern has his own personal time machine and has travelled back to 2000 just to break into Ed Rush & Optical’s studio and steal their gear… This kind of minimal funk is hard to come by these days…Check out Menace his “Resistance” track on the B side for some sinister goulish vibes… Ever been rammed by a ghost train thats running full steam? UNEARTHED002 Bass is Maternal – Smith & Mighty feat John Lawrence Punch Drunk Records 12″ Vinyl
Unearthed is a new Punch Drunk affiliated label with a mission to reissue classic Bristollian sound system music remastered and cut LOUD to heavyweight 12″ vinyl for the first time. Bass is Maternal is the title track from the legendary original Smith & Mighty long player, eventually released on their own Three Stripe label in 1994 after lengthy delays. It is the manifestation of Smith & Mighty’s proto jungle vision which came to dominate the mid nineties. U Dub is a more traditional dubbed steppers rhythm building to a break beat / junglist crescendo. This first 12″ is fully dubstep compatible and has been recently revived by top selectors such as as Pinch, Shortstuff and Ben UFO. Both tracks essential for collectors and crucial to the Bristol sound system continuum jigsaw. More stone cold classics coming soon from the Unearthed series…

NL004 Speak – Scuba Naked Lunch 10″ Vinyl
You haven’t worked in weeks. You’re unshaven and unkempt, your fridge is as bare as the dying light of a Sunday afternoon spent alone is bleak. Your rent is in arrears, and you dread the thought of more bills arriving through the door tomorrow. You spend more money on whiskey and weed than you spend on food, and have recently taken to shoplifting cheese from the supermarket. Barefoot, in your underwear still, you walk over to your record player, still faithfully spinning around and around and around since God knows what time this morning when the last people left… You reach for the record you walked into town to buy, pull it from it’s sleeve, still fresh despite a gathering storm of your greasy fingerprints clouding it like uncertainty clouds your future. For five and a half minutes you stand listening, eyes closed, and your troubles fall away. You flip the record over and, for a further five and a half minutes of pure joy, you hear that which few others ever will. THE FUTURE IS NAKED
ISP001 Running Away / Running Away (Guido Remix) – Wedge & Shadz If Symptoms Persist 12″ Vinyl
Amazing packaging and music from Bristol based DJ & producer Wedge. Coming with a fresh take on the dubstep sound with the debut release on his new label If Symptoms Persist… Having hosted his successful radio show on Sub M for four years, this first release represents the fruitful hookup that have come from the how. With the best of musical and vocal talent passing through, the show has become a watchword for keeping up on the developments in the Bristol sound. Shadz is one of the many talented vocalists to have guested on the show, and before long Wedge invited him into the studio to collaborate. The result is a perfect combination of bass weight beats and soulful songwriting. Shadz uses his experience singing with many different projects (Joker – Keep your eye on the ball, Gemmy ‘The Croft” Seezy -Whatever the weather, TC – Untitled, Distorted Minds – Otherside) to great effect and comes up with an infectious lyric with a yearning, searching theme that suits Wedges deep bass pressure perfectly. ‘Running Away’ join the long line of great vocal tun to come out of Bristol, from Smith & Mighty, Tricky, & Portishead to Reprazent & Ben Westbeech. Running Away – Guido Remix On the flip, rising talent Guido (one of the Purple Three along with Joker and Gemmy) turns in a remix that sums up the excitement surrounding these producers. R&B, grime, & dubstep are thrown into the mix. a rinsing b line mixes with Guido’s trademark or he orchestration & musicality. Two prime examples of why people are looking to Bristol for fresh take of the Dubstep / GrimeGoodnessKnowsWhat sound With DJ’s as diverse as Mary Anne Hobbs (Radio 1), Mr Jm (1Xtra), The Foreign Beggars (Dented Record ), Footloose (1Xtra), Starkey (Planet Mu), and N-Type (Rinse FM) supporting this release, things are looking great for this new label.

This side see’s the massive ‘When I Look At You’ get a release, and with support from Caspa, Benga, Skream, N-Type & just about anyone who is anyone battering the living daylights out of this tune its not hard to see why this has now got to the anthem status it so thoroughly deserves. A real epic intro with luscious pads and pitched vocals, before an absolutely ferocious drop of squelching bass and stomping beats. So big, its criminal! The flip couldn’t be any more different, but don’t let that put you off. ‘Angie Got Stoned’ is sheer genius with its quirky piano lead, skippy beats, sweet vocals and warm bass. In all honesty words cannot really give this track any justice, just listen to it yourself and enjoy this masterpiece that Emalkay has unleashed on to the world. HENCH011 Ill – Chasing Shadows Hench 12″ Vinyl
This is the second 12” from recent HENCH signing, Chasing Shadows. The duo drop some serious pressure with these dark and dirty tunes straight from the heart of cutting-edge dubstep production. They’ve already received attention from the likes of: Mary Anne Hobbs, Pendulum, Plastician, N-Type, and Benga, so give them a listen and see what all the hype’s about!
A.ILL – ‘Ill’ builds from an eerie intro, with sultry guitar chords and stabbing beat, slowly winding up to an immense drop. With twisted beats, a punishing b-line, and sweeping atmospherics, this is iller than ‘Ill’ – the bass is so low it will probably make you sick! Grimy and growling, this is a tune that’s going to tear your immune system to shreds.
AA. AMIRAH – Flip over for another dark, deep, no-nonsense number with ‘Amirah’; with ominous atmospherics, a stabbing drumbeat, and oriental female vox, ‘Amirah’ has plenty of spice and a feisty kick! A helicopter chopper sound fades in and out of consciousness and adds to the mayhem. Powerful and intense, with pummelling subs, heavy bassline and a thumping drum kick, ‘Amirah’ is a tune that takes no prisoners!

Finish copy. The fourth Rwina sees the light of yet another Taz Buckfaster 12 inch that’s going down in a true epic vein, one for the anthem horny jocks. So if you are into the grimy synth heavy side of things then better check this one out. Taz is on the case with the A side, Half Man Half Trout has been tearing up various floors for a while now. Meaty synths, a sexy melody, smooth delicate bassstings and a sharp drumbeat to nod your head to. A sure shot production that’ll leave and left tons of people wonder what that just was. It seems there aint no stopping the Taz because again he pulls it off on the flip with his other dancefloor smasher called 20 Red. 8 Bit bleeps and again a brutal squeezy synthline that’ll make your mouth water. Its like Snoop Dogg is floating on this orange cloud on his way to Jamaica to fill up his stash. A tune that finishes of this 12 inch in style and cements Taz as one to watch in the future! With releases coming up on Numbers (former Wireblock), Subway and a debut album on Rwina it shows that this is one producer we’ll hear alot more about! IME007 Time Is Now – TRG Immerse Records 12″ Vinyl
The classic TRG release. repressed and Re-released. Fresh from releasing killer plates on Hessle Audio, Subway and Audio Freakz, Romania’s TRG touches down on Immerse to deliver this highly-accomplished 12”. First up is Time is Now, kicking off with samples of dystopian android speech mixed up with a simple flute lick that gives no warning of the impending carnage! Snipped up breaks collide with whiplash-inducing bass action and shuddering subs to make a guaranteed mess of any dancefloor. Flipside, TRG gets more reflective with They Know, as wistful chords drift across the intro like echoes of some long-forgotten rave, before dropping into a post-UKG boom-bass workout. Subs bulge beneath the broken 2-step riddim and occasional warping midline, building nicely towards the killer switchups on the second drop.

DEEP MEDi Musik since their inception have been at the forefront of the dubstep scene, run by Mala (Digital Mystikz) the output has been varied and solid. The recent debut album from Silkie “City Limits Volume 1″ on DEEP MEDi was a huge success (Vinyl repress available 09.11.09).
DEEP MEDi is proud to announce two new signings to the label – Harry Craze and V.I.V.E.K.

First up is Harry Craze part of the Anti Social Entertainment alongside Silkie, Quest, Mizz Beats, Jay Five and others. Fresh from his ‘French Knickers’ 12″ collaboration with Silkie on the Break the Habit label, Harry delivers two of his own productions ‘Wa6′ and ‘Thirty Six Hours’ to devastating effect, showcasing his unique production skills and bringing fresh forward thinking sounds to the label.

MEDI022 is due for release on the 23rd November 2009.

DJ MAG – Dubstep Single Of The Month
Harry Craze – Wa6 (Deep Medi)
“Some tunes really hit you in the soul receptors, and ‘Wa6′ by West Londoner and anti-socialite Harry Craze blows dust off the 45, and moistens the eyeballs.

Next up the man named V.I.V.E.K., he was brought to DEEP MEDi’s attention by good friend and fellow Anti Social Entertainment member, Silkie. V.I.V.E.K.’s debut on the label executes two shocking outputs ‘Kulture’ and ‘Meditation Rock’ with which we think you’ll agree will set V.I.V.E.K’s name comfortably alongside the heavy hitting DEEP MEDi roster.
