DARKESTRALEX001 One Man Jettison/Boundary Part 1 (Afterthought) // Decorum – Sabre Darkestral Excursions 12″ Vinyl
LIMITED EDITION 500 copies on Black vinyl, untreated black reverse board with overprinted logo. Sabre has built a name for a certain depth in his productions, and here forces the creation of a new project for Darkestral (Excursions) which came into being on hearing this cinematic trio of pieces. Falling into musically evocative areas such as soundtrack composition, the more minimal region of dubstep and future drum & bass, Sabre here gives vent to his more thoughtful, isolationist side, where constraints have been thrown out in favour of musical freedom and the use of naturalistic instrumentation, beautiful cellos and strings perfectly encapsulate the feeling of being on a lone drift in outer space, with a certain chilled air wrapping all three pieces.
Darkestral Excursions has been brought into existence to display a series of aural ventures into the farther reaches of the beat spectrum, an edge of universe collection of anti-gravity constructs for the adventurous inner-space traveller Selected as first pilot on this mission, the cinematic compositions of Sabre, already known for a sense of spacial definition but here freed of dancefloor constraint and able to run free with the more esoteric perspective often contained in his productions ‘One Man Jettison’ in title and sound design called for the creation of the latest Darkestral project, a particular home at the front of the mothership, a capsule prepared to journey to the outer reaches, solitary and mournful, encapsulated by the strings and feeling that an intrepid journey into the unknown was upon us all, that moves into a feeling of readiness to see the mission through. ‘Boundary pt.1 (afterthought)’ follows as an epilogue and a prologue to a fantastical new horizon, textured and psychedelic, beatless and airy… ‘Decorum’ – strings and a glowing halo at the end of worlds introduces a muted brass and lush, though exploratory off-step beat as the touchdown on a planets surface is described in a sense of wonderment.

RUNTIMELP001 Messages from the Void – Elemental Runtime Records 12″ Vinyl x 3
Elemental’s imminent debut LP “Messages from the Void” is a collection of work from the last four years, spanning a range of styles, made using a combination of new and old technologies, including Elemental’s beloved modular synthesizer. He is proud to be able to present it to the world – a favour returned for all of the amazing music that has touched him throughout his years as a music listener and raver. Elemental’s fresh take on the dubstep sound has got both scene stalwarts and eclectic tastemakers singing his praises. Blending components of acid house, Detroit techno, ‘golden age’ drum & bass, vintage dubwise and African rhythm, his sound is rich in texture and musical heritage, yet remains eminently danceable. The North London based producer – Adam Wilson to his friends – started dabbling with production in 1994 with a Roland D5 and Atari ST while he was still at school. Soon after he invested in an Akai S2000 sampler, bought a PC, and the rest, as they say, is history. In the nineties he predominantly focused on making drum and bass and experimental electronica, eventually putting out his first drum and bass release as a white label off his own back. A few years later, together with schoolmate Dario Swade, they formed the breakbeat garage duo Elemental & 3D, releasing on their own label Runtime Records in 2002. A couple of years later after some time abroad, Elemental caught the likes of Search & Destroy on Rinse FM and instantly found the sound he had been looking for: dark, heavy, syncopated beats and bass. Since 2004, Elemental has been focused on bringing his newly developed sound to the masses. Combining dubbed out dirty bass lines with hypnotising rhythms, he has released on labels such as Destructive, Hotflush, Pitch Black, Halo Beats, and his own imprint Runtime, with his seminal track “Soulfire” one of the highlights on Tayo’s Fabriclive mix CD. He was officially the first person to do a live dubstep performance, mixing up and dubbing components of his productions using Ableton Live to rapturous audiences across the world: no set is ever the same twice.

IBR004 Deixa – Octa Push Iberian 12″ Vinyl
Lisbon-based Octa Push are the newest recruits on the Iberian label and here they come up with the goods on this very distinctive international flavoured 3-tracker – following their debut vinyl release on Soul Jazz Records, Stepper’s Delight 2 compilation. Having blown up the Red Bull Stage at this year’s Sonar in Barcelona and wowed people at Fabric and the Glade Festival with their unique flow; which sees them combine the Portuguese and African sound spliced with elements of UK Garage, Dancehall and Techno. Both “Deixa” with Toni Clean, resident in Portugal and from the Cabo Verde Isles, and “Baila Mundo”, with the legendery MC Zulu and his distinctive randomised dance hall cadence, show Octa Push as accomplished producers – having already remixed the likes of Buraka Som Sistema, Debruit, Mochipet and Dj Znobia, to name a few – and skilled at using original vocals over their bass line driving funky beats; whilst “Dubshh” is a marvellous bustling and punchy instrumental rub perfectly illustrating their bass and groove style. All three tunes are sure players and seem destined to bring the Portuguese style to a growing fan base and providing Iberian with yet another non-UK produced bass continuum vibe. DJ support from, TRG, Shackleton, Ruckspin, I.D., Bok Bok, Kanji Kinetic, Bunzer0, Pirate Soundsystem, DJ Deville, Subeena, Smutlee, Untold, Kid Kameleon, Helixir, RSD, SiBegg.

NONPLUS004 No Future (Skreamix) – Instra:mental / Skream Nonplus Records 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. Nonplus 004 calls upon the undeniable talents of dubstep legend DJ Skream. After working on a number of tracks alongside Instra:mental and dBridge down @The Zoo, he provides a remix of Instra:mental’s seminal ‘No Future’ and has also crafted one of his deepest cuts to date ‘Minimalistix’
a) Instra:mental ‘No Future’ (Skreamix) – Skream comes with a bloodthirsty remix of Instra:mental’s ‘No Future’ and it’s been shaking the dubstep headz into delirium all over the planet in recent months. Hes taken the original, flipped the script and mutated it into a low down gritty bass work out set to tear the front row ravers to shreds. Caution! Not for the faint hearted.
aa) Skream ‘Minimalistix’‘ – Sinks us 20 leagues into the depths of the dubstep genre and gives us a supreme master class on how to work a hook. Constantly transforming it with a mixture of classic dub effects and unfathomable edits, it’s clear to see why Skream’s diverse and unpredictable productions are in such high demand.

Finish copies. Another slick double artist 12” from the 2nd Drop camp and for this, our 9th release, Soushakerz head honcho and Kent second finest achievement after the Channel Tunnel, J:Kenzo, offers a blistering A side with Conqueror. This moody, skittish and intense bongo led firecracker that descends into a thumping bass skank out on the drop, is pure dancefloor dynamite. On the flip sees the return of LD, who continues to take the percussive elements deeper on Derailment, adding in ravey synth line and switch up 2nd Drop that compliments Conqueror perfectly. Two tracks that will never leave the box. As always, 2nd Drop commissions some fresh and totally bespoke artwork, welcoming back one of Portugal’s finest illustrators and guerrilla artists, Uiu, last seen on 2nd Drop 006, interprets Conqueror in his own unique style. PSQ001 Small Hours – Asusu Project Squared 12″ Vinyl
Finish copies. A Techno and Dubstep label, formed mid 2009. Project Squared aims to release 12” vinyl and download projects that are dance floor focused, that test new ground and that have depth as well as impact. We release music that covers the space between Techno and Dubstep as well as music that stays more firmly within those two genres. Created as a sub-label of Project Mooncircle due to a change in taste from one of the co-ordinators of that label, we were amazed to find two artists (Asusu and Furesshu) that were not signed such was the quality of their music. Still in early stages, the label aims to keep releasing high quality dance music, to gather more artists and to change and evolve as styles change and evolve… Most importantly as our own tastes change and evolve. Project Squared is a sub-label of Project Mooncircle and is affiliated with HHV.de. The label is co-run by Paul Cooper and Gordon Gieseking. Artwork and design is by Gordon Gieseking. Asusu – Now a dubstep producer with his sound tied to the deeper side of things, Asusu has moved from roots in hip hop and trip hop through to garage, dubstep and dub techno. Recently he has received radio play from various DJ’s on Sub FM, Dubstep FM and Reload Radio, and DJ’s himself (dubstep, garage & techno) mainly in Bath and Bristol. His tracks have received accolades in Mixmag and ATM (L.V. and XI’s top ten charts). He currently holds a residency at Rocksteady, Bath’s first monthly dubstep night, and also regularly co-hosts a show on Sub.fm alongside Trigga.

HENCH012 Ironhide / Slaughtered – Lost Hench 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. Born and bred in Croydon, 19-year old Justin Cantor, a.k.a Lost, is the latest addition to the acclaimed HENCH crew. Somewhat of a child prodigy, Justin started DJ-ing at an early age, and got his first set of decks aged 12. It was not long before Justin’s attention was caught by the burgeoning dubstep movement; inspired by the sounds of Skream and Digital Mystikz’s, he turned his hand to dubstep production early in 2008. Soon after, his debut release came out on Hatcha & N-Type’s ‘Croydon Dubheads’ EP. He recently was named alongside Emalkay and 16 Bit as one to watch in Radio 1xtra’s ‘Future Sound of Dubstep’. We’re proud to present Lost’s debut release on the Hench imprint and are sure that you’ll enjoy it.
A. IRONHIDE – Lost creates a seriously atmospheric mood from the start in Ironhide, building to a subtle drop of one mean reverbed wobbly bassline. A real creeper of a tune, the open hi-hat progresses throughout, giving way to a double time feel that’ll keep heads nodding. This is one serious weapon for your bag!
AA. SLAUGHTERED – Flip over for another bass-led rhythm, from Lost. Pushing a different tone from the A side (yet no less menacing), ‘Slaughtered’ immediately surrounds you with its rolling filtered wobble. This is one futuristic sounding bass riff. An echoey drum loop helps create an ambience and suspense to this track. With such a distinct vibe, you’re guaranteed to have the crowd putting their screwface’s on when this gets dropped.
DJ Support for both tracks from: Hatcha, N-type, Jakes, Skream, Chef, Beezy, Shiverz, Darkside (Getdarker), Tubby (Newham Generals), Mista Jam (BBC 1Xtra)
These tracks from will feature in the HENCH Mixtape Vol. 1 (Due early 2010). The compilation is to be mixed by Jakes and will feature unreleased tracks from Papa ‘ench too. The release will also contain VIP’s of Jakes, Komonazmuk, Chasing Shadows, Lost and Giant, aswell as providing a platform for debut releases on the label from Minus, Tek-one and Mensah.

RED001 Azure / Dwell – Jus Wan Pushing Red 12″ Vinyl
Set up in 2009 by Heath Looney[EHL]. Pushing Red was established to blur the lines of dubstep & techno and inject the scene with something different! Carefully selecting artists we feel can bring a new flavour to the sound and have the same ethos we have! Coming off outstanding releases on Applepips, Naked Lunch & Tube10, Justin Shields (aka Jus Wan) has agreed to grace us with a release and we love him for it! The labels first release sees Jus Wan taking things adventurous and deep!
A – Azure starts off with warm crackles and melodies before it launches into a steppy, shuffled monster! Gorgeous synths and melodies ride of top creating a uplifting vibe while the deep bass and subs propel the track way down!
AA – On the flip we see things go a more electronic feel reminiscent of a detroit flavour. Once again, punchy drums & pulsating bass keep the momentum going while analogue effects and bleeps sit perfectly on top!
BUILD001 Tongue Riddim – Baobinga & I.D Build 12″ Vinyl
Operating out of the same stable as Tectonic, Kapsize, Earwax and Caravan, Multiverse brings you a new label, Build, hitting the exciting space where Future Garage, Dubstep, UK Funky and all things Bass intersect. Headed up by renowned bass-music ambassador Baobinga, known for his massive releases on Soul Jazz (with Tayo & Spyda) and Trouble & Bass (with Detroit’s DJ Nasty), as well as his wide-ranging DJ sets across the globe (including an appearance at Fabric’s 10th Birthday this October), the first release on Build sees Baobinga joined by regular partner in crime I.D. (Boka, Mata-Syn, Cool & Deadly). Tongue Riddim takes elements of Kuduru, percussive Dubstep and junglistic sub-bass pressure and combines them into a tightly-wound slice of dancefloor propulsion. On the flip, Roska – one of the main players in the UK Funky scene and a core DJ on Rinse FM – takes the tempo down but retains the sense of rhythmic intensity, rolling trademark tough Roska drums over a warm, yet menacing, bassline. Hypnotic without ever losing impact, the remix has already become a staple in his Rinse show. Early DJ support comes from Sinden, Martyn, Starkey, Buraka Som Sistema, Scratcha DVA, TRG, Shortstuff & Brackles and more.

UM001 Natural Progression / In The Raw (D Bridge Remix) – Break / Mako and Andy Skopes Utopia Music 12″ Vinyl
Utopia Music is a new Bristol based drum & bass label founded by Mako, a DJ/producer with longstanding residencies at Dissident in Bristol, Spectrum in London and promoter of the infamous Utopia parties that have played host to guests including Randall, Fierce, Break, dBridge, Sabre, Lynx, Storm, Squire and more since starting in 2006. Opening the label’s musical account, Bristol resident and long-time Utopia supporter Break (Symmetry) steps up to deliver Natural Progression. On the reverse, dBridge (Exit Records) remixes a track created by label boss Mako and Andy Skopes (Good Looking) back in 2006 that remains unreleased despite a large amount of DJ support and an appearance on Fierce & Break’s cover-mount mix CD for ATM Magazine. DJ support: LTJ Bukem, Doc Scott, Fierce, Makoto, Bailey, Loxy, Total Science, SpectraSoul, DJ Lee, Flight, Instra:mental, Survival, Invaderz, Squire, Insiders and many more.

SCULT003 Swoop / Funk Me Hard – Sleeper Cell & Maztek Subculture 12″ Vinyl
Usually when we think of Italy we think of designer labels, opera, fast cars, fine art and fine foods. Italian based Subculture Records however are looking to add firin’ drum & bass to that list as they present their third release from label owner Maztek and UK producers Sleeper Cell. Batton down the hatches, things are about to get rowdy! Sci-fi sounds capes are rife as Sleeper Cell and Maztek team up for ‘Swoop’ to open up Scult003 with its rich textured break, eerie pads and industrial fx. After a tense dropout it’s time to move out as the super-sick bass rocks into the mix along with the rugged beats to provide a great example of the neurofunk sound. Fans of Noisia, Break and the like will lap this one up. Then Maztek goes it alone for ‘Funk Me Hard’, another excursion into the dark twisted world of techy d&b but with as the name suggests, a little more funk. Absolute carnage is what this one causes on the drop of filthy bass, warped vox and yet more production wizardry. Crank it up! DJ support so far from Ed Rush, State Of Mind, Chris Renegade, Optiv, Masheen, Axiom and more.

FALLOUT001 Phantom / Razzle-Dazzle – N.Phect Fall Out 12″ Vinyl
Fall Out’s debut release comes courtesy of Berlin based producer N.Phect. Phantom kicks off with rolling beats that are constantly developed throughout the track and added to with N.Phect’s unmistakeable brand of dirty funk. Razzle Dazzle is less of an easy going affair as enormous amounts of bass right from the off build towards a disgusting, pounding drop that devastates dancefloors. Both tracks have been causing carnage across the world thanks to DJ support from Ed Rush, Black Sun Empire, Teebee, Cause 4 Concern, State of Mind, Phace, Prolix, Bulletproof, Misanthrop and Cern to name but a few.

Unearthed is a new Punch Drunk affiliated label with a mission to reissue classic Bristollian sound system music remastered and cut LOUD to heavyweight 12″ vinyl for the first time. Bass is Maternal is the title track from the legendary original Smith & Mighty long player, eventually released on their own Three Stripe label in 1994 after lengthy delays. It is the manifestation of Smith & Mighty’s proto jungle vision which came to dominate the mid nineties. U Dub is a more traditional dubbed steppers rhythm building to a break beat / junglist crescendo. This first 12″ is fully dubstep compatible and has been recently revived by top selectors such as as Pinch, Shortstuff and Ben UFO. Both tracks essential for collectors and crucial to the Bristol sound system continuum jigsaw. More stone cold classics coming soon from the Unearthed series…

You haven’t worked in weeks. You’re unshaven and unkempt, your fridge is as bare as the dying light of a Sunday afternoon spent alone is bleak. Your rent is in arrears, and you dread the thought of more bills arriving through the door tomorrow. You spend more money on whiskey and weed than you spend on food, and have recently taken to shoplifting cheese from the supermarket. Barefoot, in your underwear still, you walk over to your record player, still faithfully spinning around and around and around since God knows what time this morning when the last people left… You reach for the record you walked into town to buy, pull it from it’s sleeve, still fresh despite a gathering storm of your greasy fingerprints clouding it like uncertainty clouds your future. For five and a half minutes you stand listening, eyes closed, and your troubles fall away. You flip the record over and, for a further five and a half minutes of pure joy, you hear that which few others ever will. THE FUTURE IS NAKED
ISP001 Running Away / Running Away (Guido Remix) – Wedge & Shadz If Symptoms Persist 12″ Vinyl
Amazing packaging and music from Bristol based DJ & producer Wedge. Coming with a fresh take on the dubstep sound with the debut release on his new label If Symptoms Persist… Having hosted his successful radio show on Sub M for four years, this first release represents the fruitful hookup that have come from the how. With the best of musical and vocal talent passing through, the show has become a watchword for keeping up on the developments in the Bristol sound. Shadz is one of the many talented vocalists to have guested on the show, and before long Wedge invited him into the studio to collaborate. The result is a perfect combination of bass weight beats and soulful songwriting. Shadz uses his experience singing with many different projects (Joker – Keep your eye on the ball, Gemmy ‘The Croft” Seezy -Whatever the weather, TC – Untitled, Distorted Minds – Otherside) to great effect and comes up with an infectious lyric with a yearning, searching theme that suits Wedges deep bass pressure perfectly. ‘Running Away’ join the long line of great vocal tun to come out of Bristol, from Smith & Mighty, Tricky, & Portishead to Reprazent & Ben Westbeech. Running Away – Guido Remix On the flip, rising talent Guido (one of the Purple Three along with Joker and Gemmy) turns in a remix that sums up the excitement surrounding these producers. R&B, grime, & dubstep are thrown into the mix. a rinsing b line mixes with Guido’s trademark or he orchestration & musicality. Two prime examples of why people are looking to Bristol for fresh take of the Dubstep / GrimeGoodnessKnowsWhat sound With DJ’s as diverse as Mary Anne Hobbs (Radio 1), Mr Jm (1Xtra), The Foreign Beggars (Dented Record ), Footloose (1Xtra), Starkey (Planet Mu), and N-Type (Rinse FM) supporting this release, things are looking great for this new label.

This side see’s the massive ‘When I Look At You’ get a release, and with support from Caspa, Benga, Skream, N-Type & just about anyone who is anyone battering the living daylights out of this tune its not hard to see why this has now got to the anthem status it so thoroughly deserves. A real epic intro with luscious pads and pitched vocals, before an absolutely ferocious drop of squelching bass and stomping beats. So big, its criminal! The flip couldn’t be any more different, but don’t let that put you off. ‘Angie Got Stoned’ is sheer genius with its quirky piano lead, skippy beats, sweet vocals and warm bass. In all honesty words cannot really give this track any justice, just listen to it yourself and enjoy this masterpiece that Emalkay has unleashed on to the world. HENCH011 Ill – Chasing Shadows Hench 12″ Vinyl
This is the second 12” from recent HENCH signing, Chasing Shadows. The duo drop some serious pressure with these dark and dirty tunes straight from the heart of cutting-edge dubstep production. They’ve already received attention from the likes of: Mary Anne Hobbs, Pendulum, Plastician, N-Type, and Benga, so give them a listen and see what all the hype’s about!
A.ILL – ‘Ill’ builds from an eerie intro, with sultry guitar chords and stabbing beat, slowly winding up to an immense drop. With twisted beats, a punishing b-line, and sweeping atmospherics, this is iller than ‘Ill’ – the bass is so low it will probably make you sick! Grimy and growling, this is a tune that’s going to tear your immune system to shreds.
AA. AMIRAH – Flip over for another dark, deep, no-nonsense number with ‘Amirah’; with ominous atmospherics, a stabbing drumbeat, and oriental female vox, ‘Amirah’ has plenty of spice and a feisty kick! A helicopter chopper sound fades in and out of consciousness and adds to the mayhem. Powerful and intense, with pummelling subs, heavy bassline and a thumping drum kick, ‘Amirah’ is a tune that takes no prisoners!

Finish copy. The fourth Rwina sees the light of yet another Taz Buckfaster 12 inch that’s going down in a true epic vein, one for the anthem horny jocks. So if you are into the grimy synth heavy side of things then better check this one out. Taz is on the case with the A side, Half Man Half Trout has been tearing up various floors for a while now. Meaty synths, a sexy melody, smooth delicate bassstings and a sharp drumbeat to nod your head to. A sure shot production that’ll leave and left tons of people wonder what that just was. It seems there aint no stopping the Taz because again he pulls it off on the flip with his other dancefloor smasher called 20 Red. 8 Bit bleeps and again a brutal squeezy synthline that’ll make your mouth water. Its like Snoop Dogg is floating on this orange cloud on his way to Jamaica to fill up his stash. A tune that finishes of this 12 inch in style and cements Taz as one to watch in the future! With releases coming up on Numbers (former Wireblock), Subway and a debut album on Rwina it shows that this is one producer we’ll hear alot more about! The classic TRG release. repressed and Re-released. Fresh from releasing killer plates on Hessle Audio, Subway and Audio Freakz, Romania’s TRG touches down on Immerse to deliver this highly-accomplished 12”. First up is Time is Now, kicking off with samples of dystopian android speech mixed up with a simple flute lick that gives no warning of the impending carnage! Snipped up breaks collide with whiplash-inducing bass action and shuddering subs to make a guaranteed mess of any dancefloor. Flipside, TRG gets more reflective with They Know, as wistful chords drift across the intro like echoes of some long-forgotten rave, before dropping into a post-UKG boom-bass workout. Subs bulge beneath the broken 2-step riddim and occasional warping midline, building nicely towards the killer switchups on the second drop.

DJ MAG – Dubstep Single Of The Month – “Some tunes really hit you in the soul receptors, and ‘Wa6″ by West Londoner and antisocialite Harry Craze blows dust off the 45, and moistens the eyeballs. If J Dilla made dubstep, you’d get the same feeling; sweet strings bounce off mood-drenched synths and circulate the warmth. BUILD001 Tongue Riddim – Baobinga & I.D Build 12″ Vinyl
Finish copies. Operating out of the same stable as Tectonic, Kapsize, Earwax and Caravan, Multiverse brings you a new label, Build, hitting the exciting space where Future Garage, Dubstep, UK Funky and all things Bass intersect. Headed up by renowned bassmusic ambassador Baobinga, known for his massive releases on Soul Jazz (with Tayo & Spyda) and Trouble & Bass (with Detroit’s DJ Nasty), as well as his wide-ranging DJ sets across the globe (including an appearance at Fabric’s 10th Birthday this October), the first release on Build sees Baobinga joined by regular partner in crime I.D.

DVA004 The Jelly Roll EP – Scratcha DVA Music 12″ Vinyl
Limited Edition Purple Vinyl. Scratcha DVA is not just the charismatic host of Rinse Fm’s breakfast show, he’s one of the UK’s most accomplished producers. An associate of Terror Danjah from the late 90′s, DVA supplied dubs to Dj Slimzee during grimes early days and has produced for luminaries of the scene like Wiley, Trim, Chipmunk, Tinchy Stryder and more. More recently Scratcha has collaborated with beacons of the UK Funky scene like Roska, Cooly G, D-Malice and more while still releasing grime anthems like ‘Nasty Nasty Nasty’ and ‘Bullet Ago Fly’. The Jelly Roll Ep has already gained support from Marcus Nasty, Geeneus, Joker, Kode 9, Cooly G, Sinden and more. Built around a super-synthetic bassline its title track sqirms and shakes around stinging snares whilst ‘Guro Triba’ is a little on the more conventional side of House & Funky. Remixes comes from True Tigers Sukh Knight, who gives Nasty Nasty Nasty the creeping dubstep treatment, whilst Funky don Roska gives it his unique “Kicks and Snares” midas touch.

New D ‘n’ B CD

NZLP002CD Innuendo Phase Two – Trei Samurai Music CD
Samurai Music is proud to present its first full artist LP / CD to follow on from the successful ‘Way Of The Samurai’ compilation. INNUENDO is the debut album from emerging New Zealand drum and bass talent TREi. Deftly juxtaposing jump-up dance floor grooves with traditionalist melodic song-writing and the odd touch of Pop arrangement, INNUENDO’s divergent sonic landscape stays grounded through the common threads of decidedly futurist synthetic soundscapes and chest pounding, subwoofer rupturing low-slung bass lines. Working with the likes of vocalists Lisa Tomlins and Thomas Oliver (of the Thomas Oliver Band) and fellow producer’s State of Mind, Dose, Teknik and Southern Soul, TREi has crafted a cohesive twelve song deep full-listening experience as much driven by hooks and general musicality as explosive drum and bass pressure. Delving into sample driven “Bristol Sound” recalling vibes on ‘Shame’, exploring infectious pop rock style hooks on ‘Lead Me On’ (a collaboration with rising New Zealand rock singer Thomas Oliver), roping in legendary local diva Lisa Tomlins to add a touch of the ethereal to his explosive grooves on ‘Still Remains’ and paying homage to the 90s techno scene on ‘Push’ (produced with Southern Soul), with INNUENDO, TREi makes his artistic intent crystal clear, in the process proving himself worthy of rank alongside the divergent upper echelons of talent within the international music community.

FOKUZ2009007CD Hidden Depth (2xCD) – Brother Fokuz Recordings CD x 2
Brother, one of the treasures of the deep, has been a Fokuz favourite for a long time. After signing tracks to a few singles, and some tracks on the Fokuz various artists albums, we thought it was time for Brother to move up to a next level. Brother is known for his incredible warm sounds. When listening to his tunes you get warped back in to time, sitting in the back of a dodgy jazz club, drinking a beer , smoking a cigarillo, while listening to some live musicians playing trumpet, the piano and a bass guitar. Hidden Depth is his debut album, and gives us a proper view of what this man is capable of. First up we will release a digital single which will be the teaser of what is to come. Following you will see 2 tracks hit the vinyl market aka FOKUZ 037, followed by a Double CD featuring 21 tracks, covering all directions within the atmospheric drum & bass market. The album features 1 CD with all new unreleased material & a bonus CD with unreleased tracks, down tempo tracks, and some re-releases of earlier material. For the real vinyl freaks amongst us, Fokuz has decided to stick 8 of the best tracks on one piece of vinyl, with a nice sleeve and full colour artwork.

New D ‘n’ B Releases

RISE018 Vigilante – Psidream Uprising Records 12″ Vinyl
Psidream, the canuck king of syrupy basslines. with “Cypher”, a manic technoid roller, and “Vigilante” a funky number that will make you want to wear you underwear on the outside of your jeans.

OSR022 Sweet Spot / Radiate – Alley Cat / Vaccine Offshore 12″ Vinyl
Alley Cat “Sweet Spot” Perhaps D&B’s most underrated female DJ is back in the studio again. Offshore is proud to host her first production resurfacing- “Sweet Spot”. A very progressive and forward thinking piece of music. Some would say that it fits into the current ‘minimal’ sound being championed by Instramental and D-Bridge, but why pigeon hole it? Vaccine “Radiate” Yet another edm vixen, Vaccine flips this girl power 12″ with a Dubstep offering. “Radiate” is both sparkling and beautiful, yet a bit grimey underneath. It is truly a breathtaking affair with lovely strings and ethereal samples. Already praised by Mary Ann Hobbs and Kid Drama, this track is sure to be remembered.

CYANIDE031 Oddball – Bulletproof, Teknik & Dose Cyanide Recordings 12″ Vinyl
Bulletproof, Teknik & Dose team up for the mighty sounds of “Oddball”. For those who like it bouncy without the cheese then this is right up your street & a nod to old Virus, or more recent Break. Superb stuff.
AT005 Pray – Survival Audio Tactics 12″ Vinyl
Survival has been very busy of late, yet still finds time to keep his own imprint Audio Tactics rolling on in fine style.“Pray” is all about the bassline! Sick rhythm flows throughout, as the bass swamps the room. Survival has really carved out a knack of rhythm & bass in a hypnotic way. “Good To See” is a more dubbed out affair. Subtle piano keys and warm strings glide over minimal beats and vocal snippets. Fans of Fabio should check this.

SS013 Pressure Of 10,000 / Flatline – Dub-One / G-Netic Soothsayer Recordings 12″ Vinyl
Building on the momentum of the monumental SS012 Enduser Remixes and Niskala’s debut 12inch on the new sublabel, Tenebrae, Soothsayer continues the aural onslaught with SS013 Dub-one – ‘Pressure of 10,000′ b/w G-Netic -’Flatline’. After three years Dub- One returns to Soothsayer with the magnificent jungle smasher, ‘Pressure of 10,000′. His Soothsayer debut , ‘Cry of war’, (SS008) contributed a new sound to the ever changing Soothsayer menagerie. In the meantime the Sussex based badman has been honing his skills for prestigious labels like Xtinction Agenda and Scientifc Wax, which he co-operates with Equinox. Pressure of 10,000 adds yet another dimension to the Soothsayer oeuvre, a disgustingly sordid improvement upon the classic jungle sound. We’ve seen fit to feed the lions on this one with the most delectable beats, bass, mentasm, and just a touch of timestretch flange for the roughnecks. Tarzan has been notified! Los Angeles based G-Netic makes his Soothsayer debut with the industrial crust core ‘Flatline’ Having seen release on the splinterbeats label, Mindsaw, we’re very fortunate to have procured his sophmore offering for SS013. Flatline is overflowing with trash can beats and pummeling machine gun breaks, harder and nastier than ‘Low Profile Darkness’ era Panacea whilst being exponentially better produced and engineered. Rabid Rottweiler beats designed for a reckoning on the dancefloor.

EAR011 The Blues – I.D. & Skinnz Earwax 12″ Vinyl
Earwax steps a little deeper for their next outing on vinyl with 2 killer tracks from new names on the dubstep scene – production duo Skinnz & I.D. ‘The Blues’ is a deep and tribal affair laiden with warm muffled pads and gut wrenching soudsystem subs. The heavily swung conga workout that forms a backbone to the rhythm is both hypnotic and energising and quickly conjures images of a late night tribal gethering around a voodoo bonfire! As the track works into a breakdown it resurfaces, touched with a gentle melodic layer akin to Mala circa 2005. Quality dance music for your mind and feet! Flip for ‘Issues’ as the duo show in one release the breadth of their skills with this soulful roller. Combining a driving 2step beat with playful congas, a diving bassline and muted housey stabs – this rhythm swings from dark smokey corners into skanking, grooving party vibes.

HENCH010 Drumstick – Giant Hench 12″ Vinyl
Marking the tenth release on HENCH, enter production trio, Giant – composed of Enei, Ekta and Nersa – these boys have been killing it on the dubstep front from the heart of St Petersburg for the last couple of years now. Here they bring us a bit of their dark Russian vibes in ‘Drumstick’ and ‘Swoosh’. A – DRUMSTICK – Squeaking synths and vocodered SFX are the order of the day in ‘Drumstick’, and the tune drops into a wobbly b-line number with plenty of grimy beats and retro sounding sampling. Giant keep it stripped back for the rest of the ‘Drumstick’, with great effect. With heavy subs and intensely dark bass, expect to be blown away by the sheer intensity of this ‘Drumstick’. AA – SWOOSH – If that’s not enough for you, then ‘Swoosh’ over to the flip for more heavy beats. An alarm siren wails for the first ten seconds, grabbing your attention, before the main beat and wobby b-line kick in and the layers of sound build up. Experimental, with jingling sounds, percussion and vocodered clips, the tune swooshes in and out, focusing on different sounds at different times. Top notch – this is going be beyond big, it’s going to be GIANT!

SUB005 Dub Sessions I – Shed SubSolo 12″ Vinyl
Displaying his excellent production skills within techno, Shed moves over to straight up dub sessions with the ‘Dub Shed Sessions I’ on SubSolo. Fierce bass meditative drops circles around the excellent atmospheric keyboard patterns, combined in a way that sounds both fresh and unique, but still rating 100% on Shed’s own trademark sound. Leaning towards a bit of contemporary straight dub techno with ‘Dub Shed – STP Remix’, the focus is on a more direct and present take on the tracks progression, rather than inviting the listener into an already set-up wall of sound. Shaking off the melody from the centre, the spacious patterns reveal themselves as the extreme basslines comes in, removing all doubt about the direction of the track. Taking the very straight up techno track from ‘WAX No. 10001′ B side, Shed displays yet another moniker(?) as Panamax, fusing the same linear groove from the original but taking the tempo down to inhumane tempo and filling the already colourful spectrum with wide percussion and even more slow building electric synthesizer swirls. review taken from the http://thefuturist.se

With over 34 releases to his name since 2004, this is one producer you should be keeping an eye on. His music encapsulates many genres of music, from drum & bass to dubstep, but all with that ‘Matt-U’ sound running throughout.
NL004 Speak – Scuba Naked Lunch 10″ Vinyl
THE FUTURE IS NAKED DJ support from: Martyn, Scuba, 2562, TRG, Breakage, Brendon Moeller, Floating Points, Mary Anne Hobbs & Instra:mental.

BRK013 Von Glooperstien / Bubbles – Hizatron / Geiom Berkane Sol 12″ Vinyl
*Special white vinyl pressing for the first 500 copies only* Part man/part machine Hizatron takes Berkane Sol in a new acidic direction with the outstanding tune that is Von Glooperstein. Atmospheric, refined, techy, funky and deranged are all accurate descriptions of this ever evolving masterclass in gloop. Beautiful digi bells, crisp clicks and clacks and a monster lead line all combine to work even the most demanding dancefloor. This tune will mix with UK Funky just as well as it does with techno and house.
It features on the recent Geiom FACT magazine mix. http://www.sendspace.com/file/yydm34
In a manic attempt to fuse half step, electro booty bass, niche and primates into one coherent whole, Geiom came up with the delicious mongrel known as Bubbles. Wonky synths collide with tuff drum patterns in a tense, restless fashion which peaks with a kind of homage to the Midlands favourite underground genre, Bassline house. There’s a kind of psychedelic terror at the heart of this tune but its way too playful to ever become truly menacing….Both these tunes demonstrate the high standard of musical creativity that is coming out of Nottingham right now, but give no indication of an easy to identify style. Which is just how we like it! All the latest Berkane Sol developments will be showcased at our forthcoming head to head with the Blunted Robots – Fabric/October 9th.
