New D ‘n’ B CD

CITRUSCD004 Jade Presents The Venom Album – Jade Citrus Recordings CD x 2
Hungary is the fresh birthplace of so many top producers within the DnB scene. Mindscape, Matt-U, Chris.SU, SKC. But this one producer has managed to produce so many killer tracks Citrus could not just leave it alone… This Producer is Jade.. And his Venom LP is the result of his hard work. A deadly collection of productions that, once injected into the eardrum will grasp the host track by track untill there isnt anything left! The LP starts off with the title track “Venom” where Jade teams up with the legendary Rymetyme! This time things get different as the rugged sounds will take down venues limb by limb like you havent heard before. Heavy over the top Neuro sounds rampage through the speakers to break loose the mayhem! Then its up to the second track.. the track suitably named “No Cure”… A Lethal tune that will keep you grasping for air every time.. This Teched out battering-ram is made for even the biggest powerhouses to get blown to pieces in just a single hit.. “Hit em in between the eyes” click click BOOM! Track 3 contains the Icicle rework of “This Is My World” (the original features on the sampler) stripping down the original to an ice cold minimalistic sound, oldskool tech-steppin vibes are definitely the case here but with an upgraded 2009 feel! Then for track 4 Jade teams up with longtime producer friend Matt-U.. They did their first release together so this was a logical step. And if logical could sound so phat as this.. then logical is the way to go.. Moblaw is a straight up elblow greaser thatll make you get messy on the dancefloor. The funk just oozes off this tight production thatll make you scream for more! Then on to 5… where Jade remixes three of his best friends.. namely the dutch trio thats Black Sun Empire. This remix tributes the trio as they where the first ones to recognise the skill of Jade’s production.. But now its time to repay the favor as his remix gives stasis that extra piece of fire it needed as it turns into a piece of dancefloor filth like no other. Have the tables turned?
Then for the next one where Jade teams up with another group of comrades.. namely the Mindscape boys! These guys arent by all means strangers to the Citrus label so their track “Banshee” fits on here like Rum & Coke.. Just listen and let yourself get transported to the early 2000 era of DnB. But with a heavy 2009 taste. Then for 7th Jade goes all solo style with Forged Reality.. this shows how versatile Jade can be when he’s alone in the studio. halfstep, rolling this one goes from the one to the next without any trouble. Track 8.. Jade goes all out with Mindscape & Axiom! Heavy synthy basslines rip open the track just be pummled by the beat towering beats that make this tune a pounder beyond propertions! No 9 is the fantastic Phace rework of Cryptic which was first featured on Jade’s Ready EP.. Nothing but love for Phace and you know why… Germafunk all the way! nice and nerdy! For the final track its Jade’s My World which as also featured as his Sampler for this fantastic Album.

CRIT043EP Noir EP – Rockwell Critical Music 12″ Vinyl x 2
Finished copy promo. Rockwell is a name on everyone’s lips. As if from nowhere he’s managed to get the whole drum & bass scene and more talking about him earning support from such luminaries as Fabio and Gilles Peterson. The ‘Noir EP’ comes not a moment too soon, a release to truly mark his arrival in electronic music and which looks set to turn even more heads. From the sheer sonic brilliance of the film score-inspired title track ‘Noir’ through to the skeletal break and sparse tendancies of the final ‘Tribe’, Rockwell is unfearing in his quest for dark, brooding experimentation that hasn’t been heard in years in drum & bass. An ambition to re-definine the term deep shines though on ‘Stay Calm’, a track that refreshes with glitchy FX, industrial pads and grounding bass that strikes the fear whilst the collaboration with Zero T ‘Bone Structure’ continues the theme with astounding results. Make no mistake people will double-take on this one.
An extraordinary EP that will appeal to lovers of both electronica and pure drum & bass alike. Just add an arm-chair and headphones for maximum satisfaction.

a Rockwell – Noir
b Rockwell – Stay Calm
c Rockwell Ft. Zero Tolerance – Bone Structure
d Rockwell – Tribes

EXIT019 Wrong Way – Abstract Elements Exit Records 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. The first release for 2010 on Exit records comes in the form of two tracks by Russian newcomers Abstract Elements, made up of two producers Bop and Diagram. Their tracks caught the attention of label owner dBridge with their seemingly fearless quest for experimentation and have featured heavily in the sets of DJs such as dBridge, Instra:mental, Loxy, ASC and also on the Autonomic podcasts. Both tracks sit just as comfortably at clubs such as FWD as they do in an all out DnB party. “Wrong Way” takes us into a void of sound and space, built around a metronomic radar blip, the track sinks down deep through the uncharted depths of the subsonic bass realms. Attention to detail, intricate use of atmospheric sound effects and devastating low end bass give this track a unique sensation which just cannot be ignored. Repeated listening is required to fully explore the vast soundscape that they have created here. “Abysmal Depth” could be described as a distorted fusion of dub and electronica but also delves into the 4×4 genre.
Once again, their use of constantly transforming effects and mood altering atmospherics give this track the quality of being able to take the listener on a journey and leaves them with an awkward sense of not knowing exactly where they’ve just been. Check out the Fabric Live 50 -dBridge & Instra:mental present Autonomic CD to see just how versatile this track works in the mix.

New Dubstep Releases

IME014 Separation – Sigha & Spherix Immerse Records 12″ Vinyl
Southern Australia’s Spherix has been plugging away for some time, releasing great tunes on a selection of labels, and Immerse have spotted his talent and snapped up a cracking twelve. In collaboration with London’s Sigha, ‘Seperation’ is a pounding atmospheric thumper, silken threads of sound woven around pulsing beats and surgical percussion, expertly designed and constructed to create perpetual forward motion. ‘Lesser People’ is somewhat harder – crisp drums, ticking hats and solid bass drones flying past at supersonic speed as insane tech FX rip the veryair asunder. Accomplished and advanced. 9/10 [recommended] [DJ ThinKing, IDJ issue 117]

NONPLUS004 No Future (Skreamix) – Instra:mental / Skream Nonplus Records 12″ Vinyl
Nonplus 004 calls upon the undeniable talents of dubstep legend DJ Skream. After working on a number of tracks alongside Instra:mental and dBridge down @The Zoo, he provides a remix of Instra:mental’s seminal ‘No Future’ and has also crafted one of his deepest cuts to date ‘Minimalistix’
a) Instra:mental ‘No Future’ (Skreamix) – Skream comes with a bloodthirsty remix of Instra:mental’s ‘No Future’ and it’s been shaking the dubstep headz into delirium all over the planet in recent months. Hes taken the original, flipped the script and mutated it into a low down gritty bass work out set to tear the front row ravers to shreds. Caution! Not for the faint hearted.
aa) Skream ‘Minimalistix’‘ – Sinks us 20 leagues into the depths of the dubstep genre and gives us a supreme master class on how to work a hook. Constantly transforming it with a mixture of classic dub effects and unfathomable edits, it’s clear to see why Skream’s diverse and unpredictable productions are in such high demand.

RED001 Azure / Dwell – Jus Wan Pushing Red 12″ Vinyl
Set up in 2009 by Heath Looney[EHL]. Pushing Red was established to blur the lines of dubstep & techno and inject the scene with something different! Carefully selecting artists we feel can bring a new flavour to the sound and have the same ethos we have! Coming off outstanding releases on Applepips, Naked Lunch & Tube10, Justin Shields (aka Jus Wan) has agreed to grace us with a release and we love him for it! The labels first release sees Jus Wan taking things adventurous and deep!
A – Azure starts off with warm crackles and melodies before it launches into a steppy, shuffled monster! Gorgeous synths and melodies ride of top creating a uplifting vibe while the deep bass and subs propel the track way down!
AA – On the flip we see things go a more electronic feel reminiscent of a detroit flavour. Once again, punchy drums & pulsating bass keep the momentum going while analogue effects and bleeps sit perfectly on top!

NOPPA005 Desto EP – Desto Noppa Records 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy promo. “Tes La Rok kicks off the year for his Noppa label with a versatile four track EP from up & coming producer Desto. ‘Wizard Of Wor’ discharges concentrated SID-chip energy and mutant rhythm syncopations with ruthless sub-bass and a side order of pixelated gangster vibes. ‘Gremlinz’ ventures into the realm of 8-bit monsters fusing hiphop and grime aesthetics with chippy Commodore 64 bleeps and analogue synths for a definite dancefloor weapon. On the flipside, ‘Dark Matter’ creeps in with techy stabs, dubstep rhythmics and ice cold atmospheres. To top it off, the much-anticipated ‘Cold (refix)’ delves into the dark and atmospheric side of future garage before unleashing lush melodies from the frozen streets of Helsinki.

DP035 Jus Business – D1 Dub Police Records 12″ Vinyl
Finish Copy Promo’s. Dub Police comes with the goods again. This time its the turn of one of dubstep’s founding fathers D1, here to show them what its all about. ‘Jus Business’ has been finding its way into the sets of all the big hitters lately. With its dark rave stabs, tripping jungle beats and pounding sub bass its not hard to see why – serious business from D1. Things couldn’t be more contrasting on the flip with the energetic party roller ‘Pitcher’. Skipping beats and a quirky lead line, with funky esq. melodies and soulful grooves – a really bouncing track. All in all another top draw release from Dub Police and a quality slab of vinyl from D1 showing us just how diverse this artist really is.

3024007 Remixes 2/2 – Martyn 3024 12″ Vinyl
The second half of the Great Lengths Remixes package offers 3 more vividly contrasting interpretations of album tracks .Almost a year on from the release of his debut album “One” and with ‘Saviour of Techno’ plaudits still bouncing off concrete walls, Berghain lynchpin Ben Klock turns in a remix of Is This Insanity that distills everything inspirational about both the club and city he calls home. Spaceape’s cracked vocal is welded to a sort of cavernous piston driven groove while traces of the original’s melody fractured into the briefest of shards fight their way to the surface only to sink back into the percussive smog. Located well outside of the heavily scrutinised UK hype centres, Manchester’s rising star Illum Sphere continues to hone his already distinct sound on the flipside’s Brilliant Orange reworking. A clanking off kilter groove rubs up against an extended mutation of the original melody that pushes the track towards a poignant climax, evoking all the ache of reaching for the stars and landing squarely on one’s face.

a Martyn Ft. Spaceape – Is This Insanity? (Ben Klock mix)
b Martyn – Brilliant Orange (Illum Sphere’s No. 14 mix)

RWINA005 Rain City / Beatingz – Starkey Rwina Records 12″ Vinyl
Following on from massive releases like ‘Half Man Half Trout’ (Taz Buckfaster) and Freeze Step (South Africa’s Playdoe), Rwina welcomes Philly’s illest, Starkey, back to the fold. ‘Rain City’ is one of those tunes that could only be the product of someone at the peak of their powers. How many big dancefloor tracks manage to completely do away with the snare and rely instead on intense synth work to hype the crowd? How many tracks get support from players such as Skream, DJ Oneman and Noah D yet sound like Kraftwerk and Bach jamming on Jupiter before riding a magic rainbow to DMZ? Believe the hype, Rain City is all that. On the flip, ‘Beatingz’ shows Starkey’s complete grasp of dynamics and arrangement, building gradually and subtly until before you know it, what began as some kind of gully-crunk brain-melt riddim has got you rushing your proverbial tits off. Almost too much to take. Heavy support by: Skream, MAH, Plastician, DJ Oneman, Baobinga/Skinnz, Blackdown!

CIV011 Temjin EP – Reso Civil 12″ Vinyl x 2
Finished copy promo. Brand new Reso EP on Civil Music! Finish copy with full colour sleeve artwork. Reso stands out as one of the techiest operators in his field, merging Drum ‘n’ Bass production sheen with teeth rattling dubstep subs and impressively powerful synthlines. ‘Armored Core’ injects a certain Joker styled funkiness into a severely industrial riddim and ‘Hyperglide’ reminds us of Jamie Vex’d’s recent treks into ultrafunked dubstep. Dazzling sh*t for fans of Vex’d or Starkey! – Words courtesy of Boomkat.

2009 in review…

Posted 22 December 2009 | By Editor | Categories: news, reviews, tracks, video | No Comments

It’s that time of the year when music related blog’s get their chart heads on and review 2009 with their top albums and singles, we tried something a little similar when S.T. Holdings staff members recently picked their ‘Top 3 Tracks of the Year’: http://www.stholdings.co.uk/2009/12/02/s-t-holdings-staff-charts-2009/

On perusing around the internet at the various charts we have found a mountain of accolades for some of the labels we have been representing, here’s a short run down of some of the finest records this year according to the masses and the music moguls:

HFT009
Joy Orbison
Hyph Mngo

It’s been a meteoric rise to fame for Joy Orbison, a release picked up by Hotflush Recordings (ran by Scuba) and released on his more techno orientated sub-label (HFT), first raved about by Martin Blackdown for his Pitchfork Blog and since then has completely blown up with Joy being tipped for the top in 2010 by the BBC Music Longlist: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8388584.stm

The tune has also been picked up on by the NME who voted the track their 18th (out of 50) ‘Best Tracks of the Year’: http://www.nme.com/list/50-best-tracks-of-2009/159979/page/4

Boomkat follow suit and position the track No.9 out of 100 in the ‘Tracks of the Year’: http://www.boomkat.com/charts.cfm?id=517&gID=10

We await to hear the development of Mr. Orbison’s sound in 2010…..

3024005
Martyn
Great Lengths LP

Martyn’s debut LP was a big success and the internet was flooded with information and hype about the album, his crossover from Drum & Bass to the more techno/house influenced Dubstep sound was great timing and he soon became the figure at the forefront of that particular sound.

It has won alot of ‘awards’ this year across many sites, including no.3 in Resident Advisors ‘Top 20 Albums of 2009′: http://www.residentadvisor.net/feature.aspx?1121

12th in FACT Magazine’s ‘Top 100 Album’s of 2009′: http://www.factmagazine.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=4134&Itemid=103&limit=1&limitstart=5

A mention in the ‘Lost 9 of 2009′ section on Drowned In Sound: http://drownedinsound.com/in_depth/4138671-lost-9-of-09-2-2562-unbalance?2009

16th in Boomkat’s ‘Top 100 Album’s of 2009′: http://www.boomkat.com/charts.cfm?id=516&gID=10

Watch out for Martyn’s forthcoming releases coming in 2010, first will be a 2 part remix release, details here: http://www.stholdings.co.uk/2009/11/30/forthcoming-on-3024-martyn-the-remixes/

RAMP022LP
Zomby
One Foot Ahead Of The Other

Ramp Recordings have had a host of big releases this year, notably the Zomby Mini-LP which featured artwork by  Kate Moross taking the 8-bit Nintendo sounds to the extreme and cementing himself as one of the artists at the forefront of electronic music. Songs supported by the likes of Annie Mac, Zane Lowe and Kissy Sell Out on Radio 1.

FACT Magazine voted it No.7 of their ‘Best 40 Albums of 2009′: http://www.factmagazine.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=4134&Itemid=103&limit=1&limitstart=6

Boomkat voted it No.3 in their ‘Top 100 Albums of 2009′: http://www.boomkat.com/charts.cfm?id=516&gID=10

More to come from Zomby no doubt in 2010!

DRUNKCD002
Peverelist
Jarvik Mindstate

Peverelist’s debut album finally landed on his own Punch Drunk imprint recently, a producer with relatively few releases to his name but always quality over quantity, a well renowned producer who has worked with Shackleton, Appleblim and has performed remixes for the likes of Pole, along with Martyn he is one of the forerunners of the Techno influenced Dubstep sound.

Resident Advisor made it No.19 in their ‘Best 20 Albums of 2009′ list: http://www.residentadvisor.net/feature.aspx?1121

Boomkat made it No.85 in their ‘Top 100 Albums of 2009′: http://www.boomkat.com/charts.cfm?id=516&gID=10

Expect big things from Punch Drunk in 2010, a Hyetal & Shortstuff 12″ is due for release on 18th January 2010.

KAP004
Joker & Ginz
Purple City

Kapsize, the Bristol based label co-run by Joker and Pinch’s Multiverse has been showcasing some huge Joker productions this year, notably ‘Purple City’ by Joker & Ginz. Joker has gone from strength to strength this year and is set to blow big time next year, having headlined the Sonar dubstep stage and undertaken some high profile remix work.

XLR8R voted it amongst their ‘Best of 2009′ list: http://www.xlr8r.com/features/2009/12/bumpin

Pitchfork voted for it amongst their ‘Best 100 Tracks of 2009′: http://pitchfork.com/features/staff-lists/7742-the-top-100-tracks-of-2009/5/

Here’s looking forward to 2010.

We’ll leave you for the year with some previews of some releases you can expect to see released in January 2010:

Merry Christmas!

exitcd004
EXITCD004 Live For Never LP (CD Format) – Consequence Exit Records CD
Consequence was introduced to d-Bridge via mutual friends whilst touring New Zealand and after listening to some of his music, dbridge knew that he had found an artist with the potential to create an album suited to the labels ethos of writing music from the heart and not necessarily directed at the dancefloor. d-Bridge had just started his Autonomic podcast series alongside Instra:mental with the intention of showcasing and developing artists who were thinking outside of the conventional Drum & Bass box. Consequence has become a core member of this crew who have gone on to secure an Autonomic residency at the world famous Fabric night-club and turn many heads from outside the genre such as Laurent Garnier, Skream and Actress to name a few. The album contains collaborations with fellow Autonomic artists Instra:mental, ASC and d-Bridge and is a good representation of the versatility which Autonomic is becoming renowned for. Each track is a piece of music in its own right, but the whole album is best listened to as one long piece that flows harmonically from start to finish through different emotions and atmospheres.

With over 60 releases under his belt since starting in drum and bass, it is time for Kubiks to hang up his belt and leave the scene with a final reminder of just what he has been and is capable of. ok017
OK017 Antique Antic / King Stays King – Martsman / Raiden & Khanage Offkey 12″ Vinyl
Raiden’s label always comes with something different from the usual D&B formula rubbish. Martsman’s track is very impressive, with his refreshing future sound. On the other side it’s business as usual from Raiden with help from Khanage, its funky, and not as full on as normal, but again right at the cutting edge. Martsman got into Drum&Bass around the end of the 90s. Debuting on New York based Offshore Recordings in 2005, he released on smaller as well as established labels like Alphacut Records or Counter Intelligence in the following years. In 2008, tracks on Warm Communications and Hospital Records’ sub label Med School attract the attention of a steadily growing audience also from outside the Drum&Bass scene.

nonvogue004
NONVOGUE004 Big Skeleton LP (Vinyl Version) – The Upbeats Non Vogue 12″ Vinyl x 2
If you’re The Upbeats, you never know when inspiration is going to hit, or leave you curled up on the floor with laughter-induced abdominal muscles pains. In this particular scenario, their inspiration was a whispered Brazilian ghetto story related to them by a friend. The story of the Caveraos (English translation: Big Skeleton), a super-tank full of Navy Seal trained Brazilian gang members known to terrorise the favelas of Rio De Janeiro, or on good days, distribute Nike sneakers and free cable. Sounds fucked up right? Anyway, as you’ve probably gathered by now, The Upbeats were suitable taken with this story, and having already floated the idea of a haunted-house album, decided to title their third album Big Skeleton, out of homage to the Caveraos; and horror in general.

What the DJ’s are saying!

Marcus Intalex: “Two of the most innovative and versatile producers on todays scene. Whenever I get something new from these guys I instantly stop what I’m doing, knowing full well I am just about to hear something totally fresh.”

Dieselboy: “Once again redefining the future sound of neuro funk nastiness. Buy on sight!”

Ed Rush: “Everything these guys do demands immediate attention. Drop whatever you’re doing and go grab Big Skeleton… sick, sick, sick! They specialize in dance floor artillery of serious weight as we all know from their releases in the past. This album is no different and is a brilliant testimony to their talents. Also includes one of the best dubstep tunes I ever heard… Ship It!”

Be it the haunted click’n’bass soul of ‘Bones’ (featuring Ned Worboys of Harbour City Electric), the sub-grinding, stream-ofconsciousness narrative driven breakbeat insanity of ‘Carousel’ (featuring MC Kemo from Germany), their speaker-rupturing foray into dubstep on ‘Macabre’ (co-produced by the mysterious Crushington) or the drum’n’folk atmospherics of ‘Through The Night’ (featuring award-winning country singer Jess Chambers); Big Skeleton lives in equal balance between the headphone headspace and the mindset of the club, which is a rare and terrifyingly beautiful combination in drum’n’bass. And that’s not even touching on the collaborations with State of Mind or Japanese rapper Cardz. With Big Skeleton, The Upbeats wake the dead, and the whispered terror walks once again.
DON’T SAY WE DIDN’T WARN YOU.

a The Upbeats – Big Skeleton
b The Upbeats – Laser Crypt
c The Upbeats – Carousel (Feat. Kemo)
d The Upbeats – The Unearthly

lslp001
LSLP001 SPL LP – SPL Lost Soul Recordings 12″ Vinyl x 4
SPL spent the last 3 years spreading his reach into diverse genres of electronic music. He has opened new branches of the already successful Lost Soul label. He has built on his international success, raining bass down on the heads of unsuspecting clubbers and partygoers all over the world. Now SPL returns to the Drum and Bass fold and does not disappoint. SPL, aka Sam Pool, has created the perfect blend of illusion, reality, precision and chaos within his first solo LP. The self-titled ‘SPL’ LP either sweeps the listener into worlds built of light and mystery, or drags them into the depths of a bass-filled hell. Lost Soul’s first LP release, ‘SPL,’ is a daringly original take on hard and dark music. With 8 tracks creating a symphony of chemically fueled emotion, ebbing and flowing between aggression and release, it’s no wonder why there is already a buzz within the international community of producers and fans alike.
‘I want to return depth and focus to dark drum and bass and give people who are turned off by the formulaic horror of today’s dark music something that they can identify with’ —SPL—
‘Epic and brutal machine funk’ —Dieselboy—
‘The most refreshing thing I have heard this year… SPLendidly produced’ —Limewax—
‘SPL has outdone himself, presenting an album that has depth as well as danceability’ —The Panacea—
There is a feeling of digitally mechanized destruction to the art within tracks like ‘Run From the Feeling’ and ‘It Will Be Different,’ pushing the audience over the edge of what was thought possible with Drum and Bass. Or the driving and sometimes brash ‘Angels’ or ‘Distance’ which fools the listener into thinking something beautiful lies beneath, just before an unexpected change in architecture sends them screaming for more low frequency mayhem. And that’s just to name a few. ‘Sins of the Streets’ has been in my box from the day I got it. I thought it was going to be the best tune on the Album. Then I got hit with ‘Juggernaut’ and ‘Distance,’ both completely disgusting! Definitely going to get some mileage out of this fantastic album for a long time to come, some excellent cuts on here.’ —Ed Rush—
‘Futuristic, funky, filthy are just three words I could use to describe SPL’s debut album. Dance floor smasher after dance floor smasher.. Essential.’ —Audio Freak Cult—
The LP itself has a total of 8 tracks bursting with ear candy and ready to lay waste to any system or individual daring enough drop the needle or load the disk.

a SPL – Juggernaut
b SPL – Angels
c SPL – Distance
d SPL – Guardian
e SPL – Sins of the Streets
f SPL – It Will Be Different
g SPL – Raise
h SPL – Run from the Feeling

TRIPS002 Black Eye – Silent Witness Triple Seed 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. The new label from Silent Witness returns. A devoted follower of techno-influenced drum & bass, Silent Witness adds a new edge & attitude, combining elements of the deep & uplifting within his tear-out dance floor productions. Over the next five years releases on Metalheadz, Commercial Suicide, Quarantine, Violence, DSCi4, Critical and DNAudio; the label he established with Squire in 2003; alongside collaborations with Break, Klute, Fierce, Hive, Gridlok, D-Bridge, Survival and Ercola and remixes for the likes of Bloc Party have established Silent Witness as a musical tour de force and lead to DJ bookings across the globe. Not content with the constrictions of working at the whirly BPM’s of drum & bass, Silent Witness has also branched out into house music, joining forces with Dropkick to establish the M3 Project whose debut ‘A Better Man’ EP is available on Silicone Soul’s Darkroom Dubs. He also continues to embrace his passion as a guitarist, playing on many of his own productions.

citruslp004
CITRUSLP004 Venom LP – Jade Citrus Recordings 12″ Vinyl x 4
Hungary is the fresh birthplace of so many top producers within the DnB scene.. Mindscape, Matt-U, Chris SU, SKC. But this one producer has managed to produce so many killer tracks Citrus could not just leave it alone… This Producer is Jade. And his Venom LP is the result of his hard work. A deadly collection of productions that, once injected into the eardrum will grasp the host track by track until there isn’t anything left! The LP starts off with the track suitably named “No Cure”… A Lethal tune that will keep you grasping for air every time. This Tech’d out battering-ram is made for even the biggest powerhouses to get blown to pieces in just a single hit. “Hit em in between the eyes” click click BOOM! Then flip it over for the title track “Venom” where Jade teams up with the legendary Rymetyme! This time things get different as the rugged sounds will take down venues limb by limb like you haven’t heard before. Heavy over the top Neuro sounds rampage through the speakers to break loose the mayhem! Disc 2 contains the Icicle rework of “This Is My World” (the original features on the sampler) stripping down the original to an ice cold minimalist sound. Oldskool tech-steppin vibes are definitely the case here but with an upgraded 2009 feel! For side 4 Jade teams up with long-time producer friend Matt-U. They did their first release together so this was a logical step. And if logical could sound so phat as this. then logical is the way to go. Moblaw is a straight up elbow greaser that’ll make you get messy on the dance floor. The funk just oozes off this tight production that’ll make you scream for more! Then on to disc 3… where Jade remixes three of his best friends. namely the Dutch trio that’s Black Sun Empire. This remix tributes the trio as they where the first ones to recognise the skill of Jade’s production. But now its time to repay the favour as his remix gives stasis that extra piece of fire it needed as it turns into a piece of dance floor filth like no other. Have the tables turned? Then for the flip Jade teams up with another group of comrades, namely the Mindscape boys! These guys aren’t by all means strangers to the Citrus label so their track “Banshee” fits on here like Rum & Coke. Just listen and let yourself get transported to the early 2000 era of DnB. But with a heavy 2009 taste. Then for the final disc. Jade goes all solo style with Forged Reality. this shows how versatile Jade can be when he’s alone in the studio. half step, rolling this one goes from the one to the next without any trouble. Then for the last one.. Jade doesn’t sees the last tune to be a tune to be neglected. So on this one he goes all out with Mindscape & Axiom! Heavy synthy basslines rip open the track just be pummelled by the beat towering beats that make this tune a pounder beyond proportions!

c Jade – No Cure
d Jade feat. RymeTyme – Venom
e Jade – This Is My World (Icicle remix)
f Jade & Matt-U – Moblaw
g Black Sun Empire – Stasis (Jade remix)
h Jade & Mindscape – Banshee

Hold tight people cause Fokuz Limited returns with yet another release that does the Limited side label of Fokuz proud! Dose returns to Fokuz Limited for a solo 12 inch that is the embodiment of the Fokuz limited sound! gentle yet ruff. soft with a hard edge yet still keeping that feel that is Fokuz. The A side is The Place Between which shows a different side of Dose. A more educated sound that’ll drop well in those early sets. Broken beats which get followed by an heavy bass line like in the good old days! Flip it over for another Dose production featuring newcomer Blackplanet! Man The Weather starts off all atmospheric and keeps the rolling vibe alive like only dose can do. But it switches over to the neuro side of things just so it can turn back to the atmospheric sounds. A perfect tune for people who play both sides of the DnB spectrum.

kgo002
KGO002 The Love Quadrant – Space Dimension Controller Kinnego Records 12″ Vinyl
Electronic / Dubstep label Kinnego Records started by Boxcutter out of Northern Ireland is back! After the success of the first release (by Boxcutter himself) he introduces the masses to a producer named ‘Space Dimension Controller’….the techno funk alias of 19- year-old Jack Hamill. Following on perfectly from Boxcutter and Kinnego Flux’s “A Familiar Sound” on KGO001, it features 2 tracks of deep, loved-up electro. Equally inspired by both the tape warped soundtrack to Garth Merenghi’s Darkplace and early Aphex Twin, Jack’s all-analogue production gives his tracks a timeless sound that’s a mile away from contemporary electro and house. The beats are low slung and funky, and the melodies are addictive and show a natural flair. On “The Love Quadrant”, a girl / boy vocal exchange sets the scene while the track builds momentum, before the whole thing spaces off on a sweet minimoog solo. On the flip, “Electropod-250 Collision” has a deep 808 pulse and flanged bass, topped off with Detroit-inspired melodies and blurred out reverbs.

New Skweee Releases

HRMN10 Harmönia Presents: International Skweee Vol. 2. – Various Harmonia 12″ Vinyl
LP (limited edition of definitely-not-enuff-copies), The eagerly awaited sequel of Harmönia’s International Skw*** -compilation has finally landed! Once again Harmönia’s artists are setting new standards for electronic dance music. Unlike the blood suckin’ vampires of brain dead club music of today, these cats have been mastering their art in silence and are just about to teleport mankind back to the zone of full funkativity! The Funkentelechy has been found once again! 12 artists – 10 tracks of the finest analogue soul. International Skweee Vol. 2 opens with the smokey P-Funk stylings of our favourite Frenchman: Wankers United! You can definitely hear the atomic dog barking. Skweeemasters Beem and Joxaren have united their forces for the first time in history and produced a next generation banger of harsh acid funk. AC/DC goes Skweee? Swedish-Iranian Uday is back and this time with a message. The shah of Middle Eastern electro has teamed up with an unknown Iranian woman to bring us this revolutionary piece of Arabian funk with a message of strength and democracy: “Boland Shin” (Rise Up)! A-side is wrapped up with the flute-driven disturbed grime of Coco Bryce’s “Ghetto Freaks” and Finnish noise-generator Claws Cousteau’s “North State of Mind” which is a party rockin’ example of his aggressive Stylophone crunk. B-side opens with the amazing Arab-influenced RnB of Easy and The Center of Universe. “Hamada” sounds like Erkin Koray teaming up with Lil Jon and 40 virgins in an Ottoman hashish orgy. Finnish-Swedish Markis Sage makes a fantastic return with the 80’s tinged mellowness of “Creature of Lagoon”. Rarely a track of this beauty can be such a funkster at the same time. Icelandic prodigy Rabbi Bananas lashes out a broken beat holocaust with a riotous SH-101 screeching. “Cat Eat” is a true bastard of a track from the tiny country mostly known for its shoe-gazing soundscapes. We don’t know what the Canadian caveman Slow Hand Motëm was thinking when he sculpted the slow-burning crunk of “Smells Like Randy Barracuda”, and we don’t really give a shit. It’s Great. Shine on You crazy bromosexual! The victorious compilation is finished with one of the Harmönia staff’s favourites: Despite the misspelling, Daniel Savio’s heart achingly beautiful “People Die, Love Don’t” shines through the darkness like thousand crystal suns. We at Harmönia are Very proud to bring You this episode of the International Skweee series. An album of great quality that surpasses its predecessor in various ways. Free your mind and your ass will follow – The kingdom of heaven is within! -P. Jerkman/A&R, Harmönia Records.
