FOKUZCD007 – Donnie Dubson – Monday Is The New Sunday – CD
In the impressive flow of new talent in 2011 on Fokuz recordings we already had the pleasure to present the sound of Brother, Command Strange and Intelligent Manners among others. The next flavour of the funky liquid melting pot called Fokuz Recordings goes by the name Donnie Dubson.Berlin based Irishman Donnie O’Sullivan aka Donnie Dubson started releasing his funky rollers on Have a Break and Influenza Media and already featured on Fokuz on the Chronicles of the Deep LP together with Stunna back in 2007. The Grapefruit / Battlecat release on Influenza Media in 2009 got him a lot of attention and is still heard in dj sets today. Now it’s 2011 and Fokuz presents the beautiful debut album of Donnie Dubson! His sound can be described as refreshing and original Liquid drum’n bass with a touch of the well known atmospheric drum’n bass vibes from the mid 0′s. His basslines are the unique sellingpoint as well as his ability to create an organic feel in the music that’s only done by the few who truly understand what liquid drum’n bass is all about. Pleasuring both critical listeners and the dancefloor audience this album is a perfect overview of the sound FOKUZ stands for. A great example of how music can be ‘time-less’ in this decade of fast moving consumer goods.

CRIT055 – Code 3 – What You Sayin? – 12″ Vinyl
Fresh for the summertime shine is yet more goodness from camp Critical with a diamond dubplate burner straight out of the Code 3 studio. The production trio made up of SP:MC, Jubei and Dakuan show their pedigree for CRIT055 with two slabs of almost retro D&B that could only have come been from scene stalwarts like these. Quality through and through. ‘What You Sayin’ runs out with simple two-tone chords and a staggered break to ease us into this creeping cut of subtle but definitely dangerous drum & bass. Snapping snares roll out, sub thuds from beneath as the gnawing b-line wrestles its way to throughout rearing its head then ducking beneath the surface only for the smooth keys to return to the mix. A classy piece of contrasting moods that’ll sit perfectly on the Critical collector’s shelf. Over the page ‘Double Dipped’ intros with another big break and spooky, quizzical pads and a winding double-bass that weaves its way in gently to the drop. Perhaps reminding of the Full Cycle and Talkin’ Loud golden era this one is a hard-stepping, funked up track that’ll have the floors calling for the reload. Awesome!DJ support from Hype, Friction, Jubei, Fabio, Marky, Kasra, S.P.Y. and many more.

EXIT029 – ASC – Stutter – 12″ Vinyl
After releases on Exit affiliated labels Nonplus and Autonomic, ASC releases his debut 12” on Exit with two tracks that as usual, experiment with the 170bpm tempo and bring fresh and intriguing results. Stutter is one of those tracks that comes around every once in a while and really stands out in terms of originality. Starting with a marching hip hop style drum break the intro progresses through a range of outstandingly programmed percussion elements that “stutter” around the main drums giving a jerky and rough backdrop for futuristic synth fx and lead patterns. String arrangements seem to loom in from nowhere like storm clouds and darken the atmosphere but the track stays relentless in its progression which really is quite difficult to explain as its just so intricate and ever changing. This one really does require multiple listens to infuse. Leviathan takes on the same kind of half time approach but is much less aggressive than its angry acquaintance. Here we have a warping sub bass that dominates proceedings practically from the off and is laced with industrial sounding effects and trademark ASC percussion, and again, progresses through sections of melody, atmosphere and pure madness in terms of arrangement.

NZ014X – Heavy 1 / Nymfo & Menace – Millers / Drunk Funk (Red Vinyl) – 12″ Vinyl
Black Vinyl. The Samurai Music Foreign Exchange Series returns for 2011 with one of the labels strongest releases to date. Heavy 1 from Tokyo represents Japan and is our first ever signing from the Samurais homeland. ‘Millers’ may be recognisable to many of you from its’s appearance on DJ Marky’s recent Fabric Live mix. This tunes distinctly quirky funk has been winning crowds over since it was first drawn and we are extremely proud to have it released on the Samurai label. Samurai fave Nymfo represents the Netherlands in a head to head drinking contest with Christchurch, New Zealands Menace. We are not sure who won the alcoholic battle but the colossal bassline that was created in the session delivers a funky bounce that is very infectious. DJ support from everyone that has been sent these tunes, look out for Foreign Exchange Part 4 featuring representatives from Russia and the UK.

EATBRAIN001 – Jade & State Of Mind – Here We Go / Audio Hypnosis – 12″ Vinyl
Jade is one of the world famous Hungarian drum and bass producers, known for his dark and powerful sound. He has been one of the key members in the local and the world wide scene for a decade, first promoting events in his home city – Budapest, soon after getting attention as producer from major dnb labels like BSE and Moving Shadow. He also made an impact on the scene as a DJ, played in most countries of Europe, while travelling on tours to Australia, New Zealand, even Hong Kong, Canada. Jade is rated as one of best deejays on the circuit today, with strong crowd interaction and mixes that incorporate the hi-tech sounds of neurofunk and groove of technoid, including all the latest dubs from other established high profiled artists alongside his own high quality production. After releasing over 40 tracks on 8 different labels, including the massive album ‘Venom LP’ on Citrus – time has finally came to launch his own imprint – EATBRAIN.The first 3 12″ are already on the way, featuring such fundamental dnb artists alongside the owner Jade, as State Of Mind, Black Sun Empire, Mindscape and Dose, and amazing new talent Fourward from Austria.

YSR002 – Machine Code / Katharsys & Forbidden Society – ID / Run & hide – 12″ Vinyl
For the second release on Yellow Stripe Recordings we have a hard as nails tune from Machine Code in their signature style, dark and futuristic. Progression is key in this techno-infused monster track, it just keeps on growing. And what to expect from Katharsys and Forbidden Society? A destructive combination of their trademark elements, huge snares, big bass and nasty distortion. Both tunes promise to tear dancefloors apart.

RECIPE021 – Skeptical / Mute & Mako – Recipe Book Volume One Part Four – 12″ Vinyl
Part 4 of the album 12”s brings label favourite Skeptical back to his best with ‘Refraction’. Think Ed rush & optical, with it’s savage feel & Skeptical adds his own disjointed rhythms. A monster bass line & excellent arrangement. Flip for Mute & Mako’s brilliant “Rorschach”. This is straight up dancefloor tear-up, no messing the guys have produced a killer. These tracks on heavy rotation in the sets of Break, Klute, Spectrasoul, Doc scott, Ed Rush, Nymfo & many more.

Limited Red Vinyl pressing. Samurai Music’s Foreign Exchange Series continues with representatives from Russia and the UK. Eastcolors is our chosen Russian representative. He has recently had huge success with his collaborations with Enei, most notably with ‘Cracker’ on Critical Records. ‘Acidized’ is a low slung sub heavy treat that rolls a grinding acid line over a bouncing groove. Foreign Concept & DBR UK hail from Brighton & Luton in the UK respectively, and have been setting the scene alight with their unique approach to Drum and Bass. ‘Radiation’ has been a highlight of many DJ’s sets with its signifying ragga vocal and gigantic bassline.

WARM019 – System – Go Again / The Diver’s Dream – 12″ Vinyl
Mostly known in the drum & bass world as a MC, Mark System is a well known name with a broad range of vocal skills with countless world class DJ’s requesting his abilities at their events! Over the last couple of years has seen his production take a huge jump in the scene as well! Already having releases on amazing labels such as Exit, Digital Soundboy & Integral to name a few! Warm Communications is very proud to have him grace us with a stormer of a 12!A. GO AGAIN – Amazing production on this one as usual from System. Taking a page out of the oldschool rollers comes Go Again. A 2 step affair with this one rolls along with thunderous bass and errie strings reminiscent of the old classic “Shadow Boxing”. Strictly for the dancefloors! AA. THE DIVER’S DREAM – One of our favorites from System for awhile now! This tune encapsulates the saying “as deep as it gets”. Driving live sounding drums forge through and a punchy bassline keep the momentum going. Beautiful strings and pads take this tune deep down! Any fans of the “rough with the smooth” will love this!

AUDHOS001 – Dual Process – Drugs / Thugs – 12″ Vinyl
The production duo of Dual Process, AKA DJ Java and DJ Ben J, have been in the drum & bass scene since before it was being called “The drum & bass scene”. Initially as ravers, then DJs, and now as producers, they have been witness to the progression of the various sub genres that are now present in today’s spectrum of drum & bass music. After releases individually and collectively on several different labels Dual Process are ready to launch their own label aimed at the particular sub genre that they have successfully played in raves, clubs and on radio for the last few years.Straight up, dance floor, jump up is what’s going to be on offer from Audio Hostage Records, and to kick things off we have two heavy slices of face churning, bass ridden, ignorance capable of setting MC’s to self destruct and levelling any sound system. The A. side DRUGS is inspired by the Essex gangster scene that emerged around the early days of rave music. The eerie bleeped out intro soon leads on to brain twisting pulsation of gurgling, stuttering basslines and, for just a few bars, some dubstep breaks to make sure the substance takes hold. Remember, too much of a good thing can be dangerous. The AA. side THUGS is a little more funky but still with a hard edge. Drawing on influences from gangster rap, the bouncy bassline and bongos are backed up with police sirens, gunshots and sporadic hip hop lyrics. Something for the thugs to bounce to but still heavy enough to test any system. Both tracks ore getting heavy support from a range of DJs and radio stations such as, Hype, Crissy Criss, Taxman, Nicky Black Market, Brockie, SS, Jack Frost, Ash Attack, Hoodlum, Logan D, Profile, Pappa G, Vital Elements, Spice, Origin FM and Kool FM.

UFO007 – Ray Keith vs DJ Hiatus – Save Yourself – 12″ Vinyl
Drawing on the musical traditions of his native Iran, Hiatus’ acclaimed single gets a Vinyl release. A record steeped in both melancholy and a stirring sense of hope. Cinematic electronica spiked with samples and waves of long-forgotten memories awakening. Hiatus draws on the traditions of Persian music and mixes it up with the sampling culture we live in today. SUICIDE057 – Nymfo – Double Dutch E.P. – 12″ Vinyl x 2
Hailing from Amsterdam, Nymfo, aka Bardo Camp has been a lynchpin in the dutch drum and bass scene for over a decade including best dutch d&b DJ in 2005. Previously having worked closely alongside Icicle, including their classic Ram release “Franky Mountain”, Bardo has released many solo and collaborative tunes on labels far and wide including, Dispatch, Critical, Ram, C.I.A. 31, Inneractive and Samurai. Through the years Nymfo has developed his own specific sound of characteristic hard driving bass, spanking funky drums and hooky motifs. It is an addictive and hypnotic sound suitable for just about any set , car drive or home listen. Think Icicle, Spectrasoul, Ulterior Motive, Jubei, Ed Rush & Optical but with more than enough of his own style to make Nymfo a standout in todays swamp of mediocre d&b.

REVREC022 – Enei & Eastcolors / EBK – Home / Hybrid – 12″ Vinyl
East meets West as Revolution returns for our 22nd release. In the red corner straight out of Russia we’re pleased to welcome Enei and Eastcolors to the Revolution army. These artists now need little introduction after massive singles on Hospital and Critical. ‘Home’ is one of those rare tracks that manages to combine the sublime with the grime. Full of influences from several corners of the musical spectrum, this is everything dnb should be about: originality, dancefloor effect & depth. Stepping up on the flip, enters London’s EBK. Another artist Revolution are very pleased to have on board their roster. His trademark razor sharp production skills are in full effect on ‘Hybrid’. A no holds barred track that hooks us in from the first few bars. Haunting atmospheres and a thunderous b-line set the tone, as a multitude of layers weave their way in and out of the mix.

NU12049 – Subterra – Gutter Mouth – 12″ Vinyl
As we build up a head of stream moving into the summer months, we turn our attentions firmly to the dance-floor with two bass-heavy hitters from Subterra. Those of you familiar with the Guildford residing DJ / Producer / promoter will already be well aware of his drum & bass pedigree. Clocking up releases on Ram’s subsidary label Frequency as well as Dispatch and Sudden Def Subterra has a staunch following that regularly attend his Rotation events across the south east of England. ‘Gutter Mouth’ is as dirty as the title suggests. Swirling pads and percussion build the suspense before an explosion of contorted bass sounds and snappy high end beats. ‘Cold Shoulder’ is a collaboration with long term DJ / production partner Bazil. With it’s warm atmospheric opening it creates a sinister mood before tearing into a stepping bass-heavy workout. DJ Support from Goldie, Jubei, Lenzman, SpectraSoul, London Elektricity & DLR & Octane.

PRSPCT is the ruler of hard edged drumnbass and once again labelboss Trasher is on top of the game! COOH is a relatively new to the scene, but has so many hits on his name lately you would think he is one of the veterans. Can’t here any hard dnb dj play out without several COOH monsters in the set. SEZON Starts of the classic 4×4 hardcore gabber kick, soon filled with snares and even more bass! Bounce bounce bounce on this one! TERAN will gice you the creeps. The Hororesque intro falls into a screeching sound edited perfectly in the beat. Bats flying all over the cave. Top class production, and devastating on the dancefloor! Supported by everybody.

SAIGON005 – Milyoo – Kazaduon EP – 12″ Vinyl
Finish Copy Limited Edition vinyl pressing – With support from the likes of Laurent Garnier, Angel Molina, Karl Moestl, Bunzer0, Rob Booth, The Black Dog, James Mountain and more….“Kentucky seems an unlikely place for bass music producers to be based, but with modern technology being what it is, geographical boundaries in music continue their slide into relative obsolescence.Having had his debut release featured in Boomkat’s top 100 singles of 2010, Milyoo has already been endorsed by Gilles Peterson and Mary Ann Hobbes, and judging by the quality of his latest work, the Kazaduon EP on Saigon, such hype is certainly justified. The title track is a melancholic yet strangely hopeful array of pop vocal samples, tearjerking keys and punchy drums. It’s slightly cheesy but enchantingly peculiar and one can’t help but be moved by the sheer amount of emotive musicality present. This musicality is led by the hand into more obscure territories in ‘Takedown’, with its broken beats, chordal pads, and simple melodies creating an ethereal soundscape punctuated by clever yet soulful drumwork. In the great tradition of keeping the truly weird stuff for the flip, the first b-side, ‘Box of Tapes’ unleashes an aural assault of acid infused dissociative chaos, which hangs on for dear life to a solid rhythm and chord motif. It’s delightfully disorganised and will have many listeners subconsciously calling for the outlawing of strict quantization to ensure music of this style is made more often. Closing track ‘Phonix’ is a little more restrained in its entropic aesthetic, but still keeps the beats wonky enough to be able to squeeze in some more ‘normal’ chord progressions without approaching over-sentimentality. Whether the track stands up on its own is perhaps up for debate, but it is a fitting end to a bizzarely brilliant release”.Words courtesy of: http://www.ibiza-voice.com/story/news/3133

MEDI043 – Pinch – Swish – 12″ Vinyl
Rob Ellis, AKA Pinch is the owner of one of the original and highly influential Dubstep labels Tectonic who have signed, developed and released music from some of the scene’s biggest acts such as Joker, 2562, Cyrus, Digital Mystikz, Skream, Jack Sparrow and of course Pinch. Pinch is also founder of Subloaded, Bristol’s finest Bass rave, who has recently celebrated their 6th Birthday. This is Pinch’s first release on Mala’s DEEP MEDi imprint and we feel it’s his best work to date, we’ll sure you’ll agree. ‘Swish’ has been played relentlessly by Mala over the last year as well as a select lucky few able to get their hands on it such as Skream, Loefah, Youngsta and V.I.V.E.K. ‘Swish’ is classic Pinch, dark, moody and sparse, heavily influenced by Techno, with a sub- bass and kick to destroy any bass bin, pure soundsystem music.‘Tunnel Home’ on the flip sees Pinch in experimental mode switching up the tempo, 155. This still has the Pinch trademark darkness and efx’s but oozes a stealthily undercurrent and coldness with its complex drum programming and industrial approach, reminiscent of early Photek output.

KGO004 – Beaumont – Blush Response EP – 12″ Vinyl
Beaumont, alias Michael Rintoul, is a young Scottish producer and creator of hypnotic R&B dream pop-soundtracks for late night bliss-outs. Described by inimitable Brighton- based blog 20jazzfunkgreats as having produced, “by a strike of genius and inspiration”, the authentic soundtrack to “a really cool Z-series 80s thriller”, Kinnego is proud to present his debut release, “Blush Response”.Opening track “Tokyo” sets the scene, a wistful night-time groove with almost dubstep intentions and layers of subtly building melody. “Foreign Intrigue” combines chillwave textures with heavy sub-bass and halftime drums into a sweetly composed piece of synth pop, full of Europhile yearning. “Aventurescence” is a talkbox-driven slowgroove that ends in waves of melodic synth bliss. “Lucky” returns to the atmospheric cityscape conjured by “Tokyo”, sounding like dubstep as made on a Fairlight in 1982, full of emotion and breathless invocations. The most overtly vocal track, “Midnight” seems to reference 80s Marvin Gaye with its drum machine and electronic piano palette and lovelorn emotional delivery. Recalling a more minimal Eurythmics, “Flesh + Blood” blends guitars and synthesized cellos into a desirous, heartbroken pop song for hopeless romantics. And closing the EP, title track “Blush Response” begins in layers of continental VHS hiss and jaunty melody before settling into a headnodding groove adorned with lush vocals and retriggered samples. A unique and immensely addictive debut from a very bright new talent.

GRIZZLY009 – Jay Weed – On The Nile – 12″ Vinyl
Sinden’s Grizzly label is back on Vinyl! Few do it quite like Jay Weed. Here’s what label boss Sinden has to say about it: I first caught wind of Jay’s stuff a year ago through Douster (who weighs in with a really cool egyptian banger on this EP). Impressed, we locked in the release. Leading track, On The Nile, operates on a grey area bass music tip that its really stripped back, funky and evocative. I love the Egyptian synth melodies in the breakdown reminding me of old Amstrad computer game, Oh Mummy or Egyptian lover meets the Cyber Pharoahs as Douster once said. I’ve had so many people ask me about this when I’ve played it out. The track really is a one of a kind, a real original – perfect Grizzly material. City Staccs is a great fit as the second track and much like On The Nile really hard to place. It’s just as rhythmical, but more stoned (weeded?), subtle with plenty of low end. I love both of these. Jay’s definitely a producer with his own sound!

JONES002 – Sharmaji – How To Move / Twist It Left – 12″ Vinyl
For Davey Jones’ second voyage, we journey to the other side of the Atlantic to bring you two dark percussive machinations by Brooklyn’s Sharmaji and DJ Wade. Best known as two members of the Sub Swara crew, who released their album “Triggers” to critical acclaim earlier this year, this release finds them exploring more mysterious territory. Sharmaji goes in alone on the A-side with a unique take on the current “percussion and bass” sound with a distinctly darker and warmer edge. A favourite of the likes of Ben UFO, this one does some serious dancefloor damage. The B side goes darker still, with an almost Shackleton-like take on tribal minimalism, disclosing Sharmaji’s day job as a professional Tabla session musician.

CIV021 – Starkey – Space Traitor Volume 2 (4 track vinyl with a 13 track CD inc) – 12″ Vinyl
Philly producer Starkey forges ahead in the sonic space race with his new, sci-fi inspired EP. Space Traitor Vol 2 is the sequel to 2010’s Vol 1 and looks certain to further cement Starkey as one of the most forward-thinking artists in post-dubstep, bass-driven music. Space Traitor Vol 2 is comprised of six new tracks of angular, robo-funk futurism. The EP opens with intergalactic love song Lost In Space on which Starkey marries his own distorted, lovelorn vocals with those of 17 year old UK singer Charli XCX for a starry eyed duet. Cockroach – a rollercoaster ride of huge drums and hymn-like vocals – precedes the EPs two grittiest, hardest hitting offerings: the blazing Sunlight – an industrial strength blend of rave-tinged percussion, speaker-troubling basslines and surging synths – and the dizzying, hypnotic Street Rockers. Bricks sees Starkey teaming up with rapper and fellow Philadelphian Curly Castro ahead of the soundtrack-like, ambient finale, Craters. The EP’s comes with the second chapter of Space Traitor, a short spoken-word story written by Starkey, and six remixes by Innerpartysystem, Om Unit, Darling Farah, Distal, Monky and The Elementz. Born Paul J. Geissinger, and known to friends as PJ, Starkey’s ongoing mission to chart the outer reaches of the sonic universe has so far included; studio sessions with Tinie Tempah, producing Maverick Sabre’s Run To The Roof, helming the Daily Dose Of Dubstep slot on MistaJam’s 1xtra show for two months, and his acclaimed albums Ephemeral Exhibits and Ear Drums And Black Holes. Whilst the most obvious bracket for his output is the burgeoning British post-dubstep/bass music scene, Starkey lives just outside of Philadelphia. This geographical anomaly coupled with the emotion and depth of his painstakingly constructed arrangements helps explain his unique, always-fresh output.

SR009 – Crissy Criss – Line Of Fire – 12″ Vinyl
Former enfant terrible of the bass music world, Kiss FM’s Crissy Criss landed a radio show on London’s Kool FM at the age of just 11 in 1998, and is now firmly established himself as one of drum and bass and dubstep’s biggest heroes while still in his early 20s. His new badboy brace for Sludge sees him take it to the next level with a double-header of monster low-end, powerful hooks and cool dubwise atmospherics. Line of Sight drops ravey synths and ragga vocal snatches over jaw-dropping, gut-churning bass, while Murder Tune recalls early Prodigy with its heavy attitude, lush pads and phenomenal dancefloor power. These two tracks have already been blowing up the scene on dubplate, and now they’re ready to set fire to the nearest party. Just press play and watch the crowd reach for the lazers.

After few months of silence we are back with a new massive 12”. This time it’s Jacky Murda and Max Powa, a duo from Barcelona that goes by the name of JingBong Ting. After many years on the jungle scene, in 2006 Jacky started the Little Island project, collaborating in Brighton and Barcelona with UK producer Kion on dubby, deep, rootsy material. Tunes by Kion & Murda started to get rotation in crucial UK dances like DMZ, >>FWD , and SuperDubPressure with djs like Mala, Rusko, Tes La Rok, Joe Nice, Nick Argon, BunZer0, Noah D, Daddy G, N-Type and Itchy Robot picking up on the Little Island sound. 2009 also marked the creation of the “JingBong Ting”, a live act comprised of Jacky Murda and Max Powa. JingBong Ting’s first release dropped in 2010 on WAR records, and the second release , complete with video, “Sundown” featuring Top Cat in May 2011. On the Flip you can find a heavy Ragga-Jungle remix by HoT a DJ and Producerliving in Tula, Russia. In 2009 his remix of „Policeman and Soldiers” appeared on the famous jungle label JungleXpeditions. Today HoT continues to push his sound to the worldwide ragga-jungle massive.

EXIT025 – Various Artists – Exit Records Presents ‘Mosaic Vol 1’ Sampler 1 – 12″ Vinyl
Exit Records Presents ‘Mosaic Vol 1’ Sampler 1. With so much good music arriving in the Exit inbox it was decided that a various artist project was needed to ensure that it all sees the light of day and doesn’t get caught up in a never ending schedule of singles. As normal with Exit Records, there’s no prejudice in the track selection. This album truly represents the more experimental side of Drum and Bass as opposed to the crash bang wollop which seems to be the only side of Drum and Bass portrayed by the mainstream media today. Hopefully this album will manage to reach the people that thought this forward thinking music was left behind in the nineties and let them know that it’s still alive and well and still capable of throwing up some surprising and unpredictable results.

SUBTITLESUK005 – Apex – Inner Space / Energy Lines – 12″ Vinyl
Quite simply one of the most stunning D&B 12”s to be released this year. Inner Space’ is a future classic with its epic intro and hypnotic melody. Energy Lines has the Oldskool Dillinja/Ed Rush flavour with that new school technique and attitude. Support from DJ Hype, Tony Coleman, Teebee& Calyx, Ulterior Motive

CRIT051 – Rockwell – Aria EP – 12″ Vinyl x 2
Rockwell’s rise to prominence as a rare, distinctive talent has been exciting the electronica music circuit the world over. Critical, thankfully, being the trusty forefront for all things audio-aesthetically delicious, presents the ‘Aria EP’ – 4 tracks of sound sublime, exemplifying Rockwell’s refreshing angle on energy in the club combined with the characteristic, meticulously playful technicals, precise and thrilling as ever. The charmingly rustic intro of ‘Aria’ unleashes striking Flinstones-esque wooden triplets, scaling the track as stirring vocals weave through; haunting and uplifting at once, the title-track exudes sheer class. Slightly more buoyant, ‘Live For The Moment’ infuses an energetic tempo with profusions of ear-carressing funk and those ever-characteristic percussive twists – naughty all over. Swiftly plunged into apocalyptic darkness, the Ulterior Motive boys take a sinister liking to ‘Noir’. Distinctly menacing and genuinely frightening, what better to bully the atmosphere than Hell-raising bass and staccato violins. Listen out for the breakdown bass – horrific and enriching, this track is dark by Devil’s definition. Icing on the cake collaboration with underground legend Untold comes in the form of ‘Rehoku Sunrise’, a tribal earthy worldly masterpiece of running drums and raw, wild samples, glazing the soul in bliss. Bellissimo.

TRIPS004 – Silent Witness – Brainedrain / Frozen Still – 12″ Vinyl
A. Silent Witness – Brainedrain opens up with an uplifting sound scape of lush chords, tight beats, and bass growls that rises up to a devastating drop of titan like proportions. Drums and bass dance with each other along the way, taking in turn-around tripwires and reverb bombs. It eventually settles with a break down consisting of twisted pitch drops and euphoric anticipation. The second drop then kicks in with a different twist on the bass frenzy witnessed earlier. Simply Disgusting. AA. Silent Witness – Frozen Still still harks back to the vibes of jungle with an eerie wash amidst classic stabs and vocal snippets. This sound is updated with contemporary minimal drums, exciting rhythmic frills, and a rolling sub bass designed to smother everyone in the Silent Witness ether. Bass stabs and moody pads prevail with time stretched fills electrocuting all in it’s path. Dangerous business! DJ Support: Klute, Break, Survival, Ant C, Fierce, Noisia, Silver, Vicious Circle, Cause 4 Concern,Friction.

18MOHM01 – Silent Killer & Breaker – Amongst Villains – 12″ Vinyl x 2
Silent Killer returns following the success last year’s ‘EVERYONE BLEEDS’, and this time he’s brought co-producer Breaker along and a star studded list of collaborators on ‘AMONGST VILLAINS’. Everyone who is currently making waves in the world of hard drum n bass makes a contribution, yet the album is surprisingly diverse, melodic, and memorable. These selected DnB tracks from the ‘Amongst Villains’ album feature a who’s who of modern hard style drum n bass, and also illustrate the Ohm Resistance penchant for live instrumentation, including Pendulum’s KJ Sawka, as well as Counterstrike, Cooh, and DJ Hidden. Silent Killer and Breaker shine through with tightly crafted tracks with epic layered synths and Brooklyn style brutal bass bombs and body impact reeses. No recycled bullshit, no filler, excelling on both the dancefloor and in terms of creative construction and concept.

REDSEAL007 – Need For Mirrors – Def Tone / Scar Tissue – 12″ Vinyl
Limited coloured vinyl pressing. Mosus & HLZ, two humans collectively known as Need for Mirrors take years of submerged sonic research and reflect / project it back at us with the utmost respect to the craft of Drum and Bass production. NFM have effectively filtered the cream elements of what formed the golden years of drum and bass, added their own unique approach, and forged it all together into potent innovative future darts. Dart number 1 – ‘Def Tone’ is a lesson in mixdown depth, pushing each sound to its maximum strength. Drums that deliver on their serious intent, a bassline that shudders menacingly outside normal frequencies and eerie atmospherics that temper the NFM funk. ‘Scar Tissue’ is a Need For Mirrors personal favorite, its low slung brood gliding across your senses while the rhythm section works its magic. This is how Drum and Bass is meant to sound!Need For Mirrors have seen immense DJ support from Pendulum, Friction, Krust, Dj Die, Doc Scott, Jubei, Presha, Logistics, Nymfo, Zero t. The first release of what promises to be an action packed and innovative year for Samurai Music and Samurai Red Seal. This is also the first release on Samurai Red Seal after the immensely successful ‘Judgement Day’ Ep from Calibre. Red Seal will follow this with a 12” from Autonomic / Non:Plus star of 2010 ‘ASC’ alongside his wife and also recording artist for Non Plus & Autonomic. ‘Vaccine’. PRSPCT012 – Current Value – The Spell / Code Of Chaos – 12″ Vinyl
Like a highspeed battle tank PRSPCT Recordings storms back to the scene with an obvious buy on sight record.. Current Value is finally up for his very own PRSPCT release and again he knows how to devastate the very ground he’s walking on.. By teaming up with Snow & Nanotek he’s upgraded the CV sound.. as allways..The release sets off with ‘The Spell’ a mystical industrial roller.. Imagine a warehouse filled with Santa’s elves working on high quality beats all cute and cuddly.. Only to be plowed down in one foul swoop by CV’s bulldozing mechanical bass lines leaving destruction, chaos and dead elf bodies.. Painting the halls red with blood!Flip it over for ‘Code Of Chaos’ for another heavy duty roller.. This one is a bit more stripped down but that doesn’t mean this one is ‘Minimal’.. Pounding rattling beats infused with deadly tech bleeps. A sure shot when it comes to testing out the rig.. Drums & Basses.. as DnB was intended!

INMIN002 – Various Artists – Covered By The Dust EP – 12″ Vinyl x 2
Unquote and Mr. Sizef are two upcoming producers hailing from St. Petersburg, Russia. Their deep, abstract and creative approach (tune names included) have earned them releases on such highly praised labels as Hospital, Med School, Liquid Brilliants, Absys, Blu Saphir and Basswerk. Having a bright future in front of them, these two are taking atmospheric drum ‘n bass to another level. A-SIDE: BLUE MOTION & UNQUOTE – COVERED BY THE DUST Fans of the Russian duo, Subwave will be immediately drawn to the dust. Blue Motion teams up with Unquote for this atmospheric masterpiece. Blissful pads, a catchy electronic riff, and crescendoing bass creates the introduction, before wading into an early break. Intricate drum patterns articulate the center of the track, bringing with it deep, rumbling bass and a simplified female vocal. It’s not long before the second break hits, and the track’s formula starts again. Try to listen to this one all the way through. You won’t be disappointed. B-SIDE: MR. SIZEF – 170 STEPS OF LONELINESS Where do these 170 steps lead? Would the siren in the intro be any indication? As the sweet, pitched-up female vocal rolls through alongside a slightly distorted synth riff, the bass comes flanging in with a galloping sort of feel before all of the elements come together for some great, traditional drum ‘n bass. Great use of effects on this one.C-SIDE: MR. SIZEF – LILY IS A FLOWER WHICH IS GIVING RISE TO LOVE Heavy bass and female chant samples accompany a tribal drum style to introduce this beauty. The drums filter in alongside multi-layered pads. A short break rides through right away, but it isn’t long before the sophisticated rhythm and chopped up vocal come back around. This tune would make a wonderful set closer.D-SIDE: UNQUOTE – WE BREATHE YOGHURT LYING ON A STRAWBERRY BED One would be curious as to what a track such as this one would sound like. Images and visuals floating through your head as you press play; the airy, angelic pad intro induces you into a trance-like state before soothing piano lines and a pitched-up vocal reminiscent of the early hardcore era takes you away. As the drums come in with a half-time feel, it is easy to imagine Japanese taiko drummers playing their part.

On the flip, Boxcutter & Kab Driver take inspiration from vintage library music and dubbed out disco. “2Time” is all handclaps and insistent synth chords, with two woozy string-led breakdowns. MR011 – Jamie George – Flying Saucer (Ft Roska & J Kenzo Remixes) – 12″ Vinyl
Roska’s Kicks and Snares/RKS is back with another big release, and this time it comes courtesy of Jamie George with the hotly anticipated Flying Saucer. First picked up by DJ Oneman, making it a feature on his Rinse mix cd, support for this track has grown and grown with well known acts such as Toddla T, Hot Chip and Tomb Crew repping it hard. Combining elements of UKG, House and Dubstep Jamie has created an instant classic that has worked hard to earn this release and the plays of DJ’s all across the country. Roska himself steps up with the first remix, a re-imagining with special attention on the percussion, elements of tribal and dancehall peel back the layers of the original in the way that only a talented minimalist like Roska can. With his speciality lying in the truly funky Roska drops a mix that literally drags you up to your feet and pushes you harder the longer it’s played. J Kenzo, of Dub Police fame, completes the package with a much darker, harder affair. You get the impression he took the original track and made it watch the entire Saw series back to back with Halloween then sent it back scarred forever. In all seriousness Kenzo has a real talent for creating dark, bass driven tracks and he has expanding on that here adding heavy portions of electro and old school to compose a truly original mix. Check them out and get back to us.

Everyone who is currently making waves in the world of hard drum n bass makes a contribution, yet the album is surprisingly diverse, melodic, and memorable. Showing off considerable production and songwriting skills, the duo drop their tempo with fantastic results, on this vinyl single of the dubstep tempo tracks from the ‘Amongst Villains’ album. Joining forces with both Napalm Death legend Mick Harris (as SCORN), and breakcore master Enduser, and utilizing the vocal talents of Bulgaria’s Syze, the tracks range from the brutal, total dancefloor domination of the title track Amongst Villains, to the epic and uplifting sounds of Divine. Silent Killer and Breaker prove to be versatile and no tourist, demonstrating a level of mastery that transcends genre.

ZAUDIO022 – Genetix – Hangin – 12″ Vinyl
This young talented duo is showing us how the heavier side of Dubstep should be done! You can really hear from their productions that they know their way around the studio and when you play some of Genetix tunes on a big system, make sure you put up some health hazard signs! Death by subs is a high possibility. Okay, on to the tunes! “Hangin’” is just one of those tunes to watch out for. It will blow your chest up with bass, make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck and possibly wet yourself with excitement. That’s only if you’re lucky though. Then we have “Trigger Happy” featuring Persist whose name I seem to be coming across quite a bit at the moment. This tune is great and can’t really choose between this and “Hangin’”. Both are insane! Then last but not least is “Sci Tech” which is on the deeper side. Great tune and a nice way to round off this great EP!

BNL001 – Jay 5ive & Kromestar – Bass 96 / Hands In The Air – 12″ Vinyl
What a way to launch a record label, ‘Bass & Love’ kick starts their already impressive release schedule with the highly sort after ‘Bass 96’ backed with the equally impressive ‘Hands in the air’ produced by label owners Kromestar & Jay 5ive. ‘Bass & Love’ is a fresh, new, exciting label setup by two of the scenes leading artists, Kromestar & Jay 5ive. Kromestar & Jay 5ive are looking to push the sound we love to a higher level, a musical, atmospheric, and ultimately different flavour of music while also casting aside the restraints of bpm and experimenting with different speeds there will be a vast array of music for everyone, a concept which has already seen this release supported by the likes of Mala, N-Type, JoeNice, Heny G, Von D, Joker, Silkie and many more talented established artists. “Bass 96” while being a chilled tune in heart, drops into an extremely heavy sub bass line, forcing every foot on the dance floor to move back and forth. An interesting pattern of hats sprinkle over the tune while dubbed out hits and atmospheres set the foundation. The progressiveness of the track works perfectly as it then drop into some of the most catchy synth lines and melodies you’ll hear this year, a huge club track that’s been receiving rewinds the world over, another plate that should never leave your record bag. “Hands in the air” An ambient mist unfolds before your ears; wonderfully complementing atmospheres sets the mood as this mellow and vibe filled tracks prepares to take you on a musical adventure. Steppy drums and signature heavy bass leads the listener further into their journey while gradually picking up subtle and pleasing synth strings along the path. A captivating saxophone riff takes us one step closer to the destination and comforts us with another memorable riff with the familiar synths we’d met on the path before. Multiple layers of ambience and melodies create a remarkable atmosphere and expertly crafted composition that is a pleasure to listen to at home or in a club.

HF026 – Sepalcure – Fleur EP – 12″ Vinyl
Following the release of their stunning summer debut EP ‘Love Pressure’, Sepalcure – a Brooklyn-based duo composed of Travis Stewart and Praveen Sharma – have announced their second EP featuring four brand new cuts, due for release in late January 2011 on Hotflush Recordings. Having produced for years individually as Machinedrum (LuckyMe) and Praveen (of Praveen & Benoît), their new collaboration breathes a new life of its own, reflected in its distinctive, lush sonic warmth and a refreshing style of composition that is as equally fitting on the dancefloor as it is in the comfort of one’s home. The Fleur EP shows a progression of Sepalcure’s depth of field, weaving distant chords, soulful vocals, and organic rhythms into vibrant, immersive soundscapes, with echoes of house, techno, and dubstep within. Be it the gentle melodies of “Fleur”, the ascendant effervescence of “Your Love”, the relentless bass of “No Think”, or the suspending ambience of “Inside”, it is a sound that is unmistakably Sepalcure. Their live performances have been gaining steam over the last year, beginning with appearances at Unsound Festival, Dub War NYC, and The Bunker, followed by a live showcase at Portland’s Decibel Festival in September, they are set to embark on their first European tour with other Hotflush artists this December. They have also composed an original track in Darren Aronofsky’s new film Black Swan, in theatres starting December 2010.

IBR005 – Various Artists – Tax Haven I – 12″ Vinyl
Iberian records comes out of a hibernation period with the a series of “Tax Haven” EPs. This first EP comes from a group of producers located in the Barcelona bass enclave and who have been some of the main players in the monthly B.LOW events there. Dedicated to what the label describes as Bass’n'Groove, this EP contains three varied and original sounding tunes with different Bpms suited to the leftfield of various bass music fields (dubstep/funky/future garage etc). First up sees Mr. Gasparov’s “Transient Love” come in the guise of a house influenced little gem of a tune featuring Japanese vocalist G.Rina (who has previosly worked with RSD and Nicolette) who cooes and whispers about transient lovers. Those of you already aquainted with Mr. Gasparov with his release on Soul Jazz Records “Steppas Delight 2″ compilation will recognize the attention to subtle melodic play. There is an overall summery vibe coming here – so something to warm us all up with and make us look ahead to brighter days. Accompany with a mojito and some afternoon sun!Next up sees Nehuen’s “Between Love and Hate” which is a tense stripped down bass’n'beat workout with a persistant bass riff and schizoid strings bringing the darkness. Nehuen is an artist that usually getting support from Dusk + Blackdowns Rinse radio show. There is a grimy and ruff feel here not to dissimilar to some Soulja releases from back in the day. Tuff steppas gear.On the 45rpm flip side Relocate come with their trademark relentness sub bass boogie on “Soul Survivor”. Opening with live drum rolls and low end throbs the tune drops into a driving heads down rhythm, laced with swinging ruff arse beats and a frustrated female vocal hook on the drop – “That I just came…” After which the rhythm section pounds away trying to please her! This is a souped up turbo garage workout pimped for the floor and primed for the bassbins.

BASECORRUPT11 – Matt Green / D-Formed – Ft. Fused Forces – Open Space (Matt Green Remix) – 12″ Vinyl
Base.Corrupt returns with another solid 3 track EP, once again featuring Fused Forces alongside label owners Matt Green and D-Formed. Fused Forces ‘Open Space’ gets the remix treatment from Matt Green, a moody stepper with its signature bassine, this tune has seen enough support from the scene. D-Formed lightens the mood with his multi layered tune ‘Unstable’, taking his production to the next level, perfect mixture of dancefloor and chill. Finally after Fused Forces gave it a battering with their remix, Matt Greens’ original ‘Black Forest’ sees the light of day, shotgun snares and deep basslines are the order of the day.

SUBWAY015 – DJ Madd – When I First Met You EP – 12″ Vinyl
Dj Madd has been a known face within the dubstep scene for while now.. his releases on Blackbox, War, Boka, Tube10 have been getting massive support.. But his subway debut is probably his best work yet! “When I First Met You” is the epic cut here.. massive basslines & euphoric strings have dubbed this DJ Madd’s best outing yet.. Garage, Dubstep call what you wanna call it we’re in love with this one.. “Got Me Dancing” shows Madd on a 8 bit tip.. dont be mistaken by the cute exterior cause once this bassline drops your in for a world of hurt.. chest hurt that is.. This one will rattle everything in sight! Speaking about rattling.. “Babylon” takes that to the next level.. ever played on a big rig and getting a massage at the same time? no? well but on babylon and feel everything tremble.. This one is just one of those records that lets you know what dubstep was all about from the beginning.. RATTLIN BIZ!

MEDI022 is due for release on the 23rd November 2009.

DJ MAG – Dubstep Single Of The Month
Harry Craze – Wa6 (Deep Medi)
“Some tunes really hit you in the soul receptors, and ‘Wa6′ by West Londoner and anti-socialite Harry Craze blows dust off the 45, and moistens the eyeballs. If J Dilla made dubstep, you’d get the same feeling; sweet strings bounce off mood-drenched synths and circulate the warmth. And whilst this won’t set the dancefloors alight, it will start a fire in the soul. The flip is great too, but you’d be forgiven for never listening to it“.

Next up the man named V.I.V.E.K., he was brought to DEEP MEDi’s attention by good friend and fellow Anti Social Entertainment member, Silkie. V.I.V.E.K.’s debut on the label executes two shocking outputs ‘Kulture’ and ‘Meditation Rock’ with which we think you’ll agree will set V.I.V.E.K’s name comfortably alongside the heavy hitting DEEP MEDi roster.
