New D&B CD

SUICIDECD008 Music For Prophet – Klute Commercial Suicide CD x 2
Klute’s first album in 2 years titled ‘Music for Prophet’, on his own ‘Commercial Suicide’ imprint. As on his previous albums, Klute stays true to himself with another non-commercial, yet 100% dancefloor friendly longplayer that – just like his excellent dj sets – offers the right balance of musical tunes alongside some real heavy hitters. Tom Withers, started back in 1994, i think when he was asked for a name to keep exclusive to Certificate 18 records when they agreed on 2 tracks to be his first single. It was there he stayed until 2000 when he delivered his 2nd final album for Cert 18 called Fear Of People. At this point in time Tom decided to make a change and realising no one else was interested in releasing his music decided to set up his own label. With his own platform set up he realized anything was possible, he could even release music by other idiots. Which he did. Perhaps too much. An interesting fact no one knows about Tom Klute is that he is the world’s leading composer of Airport music. Most of you who’ve travelled the friendly skys will have unknowingly heard his works at one time or another. Now we come to 2010 and Klute is ready for fucking more, and more it is with his 6th album “Music for Prophet”. All of Klute’s previous albums have been released to critical acclaim and this one will not stand behind, showing that Klute’s consistency as an artist reaches into 2010 and beyond. The album which also features a collaboration with Dom & Roland will be released as triple coloured vinyl, 2 X CD and Digital download. The additional CD & digital download package promises bonus material including techno tracks.

New D&B Releases

INMIN001    Only Words – Blue Motion    Influenza Media    12″ Vinyl
After a lengthy successful run with Influenza Media and Influenza Digital, label owner, Eros comes through with a brand new sub-label for 2010, Influenza Minus. Targeted to a deeper, minimal, experimental sound, the imprint will feature an A list of talent, including Triad, Brandon Miles, Tricky Pat, Blue Motion, Mister Sizef, Unquote, Glen E Ston, Decem, Dominic Ridgeway, Eleven8, Molecular Structures, Material, Reza, CJ Weaver, Omnius and many more. Influenza Minus will be available in vinyl, digital and compact disc format. If you take a trip back to Influenza Media 007, you might remember the fantastic uptempo vibes of Blue Motion’s ‘Only Words VIP.’ Influenza Minus 001 revisits this glorious track, bringing forth the original mix and a remix by Triad, the collaboration of Basti (which is also a collaboration between Madmen and Poets from Phunkfiction) and Henree. The trio has music out on Deep Soul Music, Horizons Music, Critical, X-tinction and Engine Music, and one of their most recent releases Omar featuring Estelle – Lay It Down (Triad Remix) has just been released on Peppermint Jam. In Blue Motion’s original mix, progressive, steppy vibes roll this one in before the melodic hook takes over. Very minimal in nature with a warm bassline, samples and piano lines build endlessly and seamlessly before making way for Triad’s teched out sound. A moody bassline sets the atmosphere with arpeggios of angelic voices, leading into a moment of silence before the drop. Fans of Critical Recordings, Subtitles and Quarantine would love this one.

OK020    OK020 The Remixes – Raiden    Offkey 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy This is a landmark release for Offkey Music. It marks twenty releases in the last five years. From singles to EPs to an Album It has been tough but equally rewarding experience. The label has reached beyond our expectations and we wanted to mark it suitably, Thus for this release we are proud to bring you two remixes from the labels back catalogue, courtesy of Inneractive’s Spirit & Shogun Audio’s Icicle. Raiden- M82: Spirit Remix: The original track was a rolling yet edit heavy drum work out from Raiden, big on the bass and rich textures as you would expect. M82 signalled a new concentration on bass weight from Raiden and began to prick the ears of deejays. Spirit was one of the first to pick up on the track so there was no better choice for the rework, Spirit has further stripped back the track to its core elements and has in turn found another groove to exploit, A great rework from a dance music veteran. Pounding bass and stepping drums are the order of the day!
Raiden & Khanage: King Stays King: Icicles Royal Treatment: ‘Kings’ is a track that has achieved the honour of being the most played track in the labels history, the list of deejays who played the original reads like a who’s who of drum n bass. There were few choices for remixing the track, Icicle was number one the list and to the labels pleasure, the coldest producer in the land jumped at the chance & delivered everything you would expect, juggernaught drums laced with only the best bass from the Dutch wonder. As soon as the track went public the reactions were instantaneous, rounding off a landmark release for Offkey Music. Heres to the future!

WARM016 Hydrate / Hydrate (Consequence Remix) – DJG Warm Communications 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy Known in many circles for his wonderful dubstep excursions comes San Francisco native “DJG” with his excellent take on Drum & Bass. This is his first release when it comes to D&B and we are very proud to be releasing these amazing tunes! Welcome aboard! A. HYDRATE A deep menacing vibe kicks things off a a steady kick while claps and thick snare are sprinkled throughout leading up to a thunderous reese that will challenge any system. Muffled horns and vocals keep things interesting leading up to a subterranean breakout takes things into dubby territory! A truly wonderful piece of original music! AA. HYDRATE ( CONSEQUENCE REMIX ) Known for his work with the Autonomic crew, Consequence seemed the perfect match to recreate an already wonderful tune and does a great job with this remix. A hazy intro with dusty crackles leads into the tune’s signature kick with claps. Dubby stabs with a drawn out horn take things deeper before the bass punches through. Consequence has taken his signature minimal sound and added upon the original for a truly deep, original recreation. These are the kind of remixes we like! Dub Dub Dub!!!

DJ support is coming in from right across the scene, including London Elektricity, Friction, Doc Scott, Lynx, John B, Nookie and many more.
Overwhelm (Seba remix): Seba assaults the calm of the original ‘Overwhelm’ with a battery of old skool breaks and signature cosmic sweeps that recall the highlights of the Good Looking Records era. Lifting the tune away from the bedroom and up towards the dancefloor Seba’s remix has immediately become a favourite of some of the biggest names in d&b, effortlessly demonstrating why he’s remained at the top of the game for more than 15 years.
Seba’s remix of ‘Overwhelm’ is featured on DJ Friction’s forthcoming mix CD for Ministry of Sound. Believe Me (Bop remix): Bop takes the opposite route with his interpretation of ‘Believe Me’, opening up a bottomless well of reverb and throwing the components of the original into it, piece by piece. The result is a beautiful inversion of the original, showcasing the near-beatless melancholy the young Russian has become famous for.

RAMP032CD Idiot Box – P.U.D.G.E Ramp Recordings CD
Although you may not have yet heard his name, P.U.D.G.E. has been bubbling up in U.S. beat scene for many years. At age 9, his father gave him a Bass, a Juno synth, a DX drum machine and a Tascam 4 track. He encouraged the boy to start making his own music; P.U.D.G.E. got the bug. By the time young P.U.D.G.E. After hearing about the emerging beat scene in L.A., he moved there in 2004, and started getting a few production credits under his belt, including cuts for Rawkus Records and Stacey Epps. After circulating some of his instrumental beat tapes, interest for P.U.D.G.E. started to gain momentum. RNG010    Jays Reese / The Intro – L.D vs Clue Kid    Ringo Records 12″ Vinyl
A strand emerging within dubstep is a mutant jungle strain within the sound. Needless to say, it’s impossible to imagine dubstep without the DNA of jungle: it’s prominent in so many ways and places, from Burial’s Foul Play influences to Loefah’s love of the sound itself. Members of the scene used to DJ jungle, from N Type and Kode9 to Jason (Transition’s mighty mastering engineer). In fact the whole “dark” component that makes dubstep distinct from UK garage has its roots in El-B’s twin love of Metalheadz and 2step. Jungle is less an influence on dubstep, more like the foundation on which the whole scene, via garage, was built. But in spite of all that, a re-emphasis on jungle-flavored dubs is emerging within dubstep; songs that use chopped breaks, epic pads, and vocal samples like it was 1994, from producers LD and Cluekid. words by Martin Clark

HENCH018 Disgustin Justin / Metalfoot – Lost Hench 12″ Vinyl
Having already graced Hench with his debut release, Ironhide / Slaughtered, Justin Cantor, a.k.a Lost, brings his latest batch of weaponry. With his debut releases on Hench being deemed strong enough to appear next to some of the scene’s biggest producers, such as Jakes, Komonazmuk and Chasing Shadows. Since that first release, Lost has been a regular feature in Get Darker TV’s live shows and this new offering will not disappoint fans. a. Distustin Justin – Cutting straight to the chase, Lost captures the sub-bass perspective of 90’s dance culture perfectly with Disgustin Justin. With the swinging bassline making creating a raw and dubby atmosphere, you can immediately tell that this was built to be played on a big soundsystem. Scattered high-hats and glitches keep the momentum rolling forward solidly. Estranged vocal in the background and the percussive drums add to the tripped-out mood of this production. From the evidence shown here, there is no doubt that Lost’s sound is maturing. aa. An eerie soundscape guides us into Metalfoot – leading you into a false sense of security whilst building to the drop. And when this fat, chrome-guilded bassline drops in you gather an understanding of where the inspiration for this track’s name came from. Slow-drawing snare, pulsating sub- bass and ticking high hats provide the ingredients for this dread-inducing track. This one’s a real grower and is going to be turning heads when it gets dropped on the dancefloor. DJ support for both tracks from: Jakes, Mistajam, Hatcha, Cyrus, N-Type, Darkside, Noah D, Datsik, Breezy and more.

HRMN012    On The Low – Randy Barracuda    Harmonia 12″ Vinyl
After a decade of bitter tears and hopeless trying our Finnish funkster Randy Barracuda has finally reached his ultimate goal as an artist. He has managed to combine successfully the music of his two favourite composers: Klaus Schulze and Lil’ Jon. ‘Impossible’, You may say. Well, don’t believe the hype. Take a listen to Streisand Effect’s booming crunk beats, heavy basses, epic synthesizer leads and cristallic arpeggios and choose for yourself. Dubstep – hero Tes La Rok’s outstanding remix stays true to the original but adds some extra dubby aesthetics to Randy’s storming soccer stadium skweee vibes. Backside of the record is dominated by more moody and naturalistic atmospheres. Tako To Ama (The Dream of the Fisherman’s Wife) is Randy’s homage to the grandiose tradition of Japanese tentacle erotica. In its Asiatic moods and sharp synthesizer stabs You can almost feel the slippery tentacles of an octopus wandering around in your bodily cavities! Record comes to an end with Lebensraum, an eight minute long meditative disco reggae. On Lebensraum the listener finds a totally new aspect of Randy Barracuda’s aural art: gone are the rapid staccato melodies and usual stiff funkiness. Maybe Credit00, a mysterious East-German bongo player, gave the track its naturalistic charm and the comfy aura of a forest in the springtime.

Early this year, P.U.D.G.E. headed up All Cty’s L.A. series, on a split 10” with Dibiase, preceeding releases from Ras G, Samiyam & Matthewdavid.

PSQ003 Pinpoint / Diver – L-OW Project Squared 12″ Vinyl
Finish Copy Promo’s. The third release on Project Squared features on it’s A side two tracks of Techno infused Dubstep from L-OW, an Estonian producer who has been building a reputation and discography since 2008 with a string of excellent releases. The first track, “Pinpoint”, has an energetic drive and pace despite it’s syncopated individual rhythmical elements. L-OW fuses these disparate elements to make a dance floor track with impact and depth. L-OW’s second track is Diver; a more reflective and introspective piece than Pinpoint, this is not a recording to play at the height of a set, but is more a piece focussed on mood and depth. On the B side, Bristol based artist Furesshu remixes Diver, taking elements of the original 140bpm Dubstep track and applying them to a 127bpm Techno framework. After a well received debut release on Project Squared that has garnered DJ play from the likes of Sigha , Marcel Dettmann and Ben Klock, Furesshu has produced a superb remix as a follow up. He strips back the original to a haunting, industrial, emotive melodic element, and drives the pace of the remix with cymbal lead drum lines and expansive bass. Mastered at Optimum, Bristol, United Kingdom.

ASC004 Thru The Blinds – DJ Kromestar Cloqworq Recordings 12″ Vinyl
This white label promo release needs no introduction as one of the leading pioneers of UK Dubstep provides the second release written especially for Anti Social’s Cloqworq Records. DJ Kromestar has proved his talent time and time again over the past four years through a string of releases with the infamous Deep Medi label and Dubstar Records, alongside others. Kromestar has broken boundaries from the very start of his career producing club smashers such as ‘Get Up’ and ‘Kalawanji’ aswell as bringing to you the more soulful, meditational vibes such as ‘Galactic War’ from the debut album ‘My Sound’ and not to mention a barrage of anthems he released on the mix compilation last year entitled ‘The Other Side’ which he describes as strictly experimental 140. DJ Kromestar has and will be one to watch for the foreseeable future standing as one of the most exciting and not to mention groundbreaking producers to have entered the genre. ‘Thru The Blinds’ is a clever combination of sub low bass pressure with the eerie yet emotive atmospherics to put any dancefloor into a meditational trance – Dark and moody dub vibes with a killer low end sub over a tribal beat pattern in true Kromestar style. This is a real stomper of a hit. ‘Love’ takes a different stance on the B side delving into the more experimental side of this producer’s catalogue – smooth, eclectic pads dropping into low down sub stabs over another unconventional but highly effective beat. This represents the other side to the anti social sound which can only be described of as the deeper liquid Dubstep sound in trademark style.
Both tracks have had support on the highly acclaimed rinse fm on a weekly basis (WWW.RINSE.FM) and are receiving heavy rotation from DJs such as SKREAM, MALA AND N-TYPE in the clubs and not to mention major dubstep icons such as HATCHA from KISS 100 and MARYANNE HOBBS from RADIO 1, This highlights the versatility of these tracks and the potential to cross into Dj sets from different genres. These are both long awaited releases having caused a lot of interest on dubstepforum.com as well as having been reviewed on various portals and online magazines such as GetDarker.com and also residentadvisor.net – a real must for all serious dubsteppers worldwide

Coming soon, new D&B label: FOOTPRINTS

Coming soon, new D&B label: FOOTPRINTS

Posted 20 January 2010 | By Editor | Categories: misc, news, tracks | 1 Comment

Introducing the new label ‘Footprints’ from Zero Tolerance set to launch in the next few months. Two big first releases to showcase, audio can be found below, first, over to Zero T to introduce the label…..

We at FOOTPRINTS are setting our stall out to provide something we feel has been missing from the zeitgeist for too long now….

That something is “90′s Music”…..yes folks, its been 10 years since the 90s and we for one miss it more than ever. It was a time when music metamorphasized into so many wonderful, radical, heartfelt and completely new forms. Unfortunately, life and culture moves in cycles and i think we can all agree that the “noughties” was a largely forgettable era for ALOT of reasons.

The complete dominance of consumerism in our world has , combined with the Net 2.0 revolution, sucked much the life out of this thing we call music. But every action has an equal and opposite reaction, and if Rage Against The Machine making the UK Christmas No.1 in 2009 is a signal of the backlash, the we at FOOTPRINTS hope to assist this return to an older Ethic:

Motivated from the Heart , not the Wallet.

So, in this new Decade we aim to regularly provide you with music made for your mind AND body, that will shake any building to its foundations but still stand alone as a piece of music, taking you to another place, time or mood when heard in its entirety.

We decided to start as we mean to go on…with a BANG!

FOOTPRINTS debut 12″ features label owner ZERO T and old friend BAILEY (BBC/METALHEADZ) combining to devastatin effect. “Wasp Factory” , as you may have guessed, is not a love song! Currently a favorite of everyone from Goldie, Ed Rush and Optical, Lemonde to Paradox and Loxy….Not for the feint-hearted!

On the flip of this comes a slice of paranoid funk from Belfasts mercurial Genius Calibre , alongside DnB legend ST Files of SOUL:R fame! “Devil Inside” has that familiar Signature/Soul;r roll to it, but the other elements may surprise a few: Dark gliding, filtered Reese bases undulate under a piano line to put a chill down your spine….something different from the norm!

Support from Hype, Fabio, Grooverider, Bryan G, Alix Perez, Spectrasoul, Commix etc..

Following hot on the heels of PRINT001 is PRINT002 :

ZERO T + MOSUS -”Shallow Grave” and BETA 2 – ” Cabin Phever”

ZT and his Kiwi buddy get a bit rowdy this time, with a heavy inspration from the early Virus sound of 1998-99. “Shallow Grave” sneaks in a kicks you in the gut and pounds you like Giant Haystacks!! as the vocal sample states….”.i roam when its dark, and take you to some secret place and bury you” Indeed!

Mr.T decided to keep it in the family , Irish-Style, for the 1st two 12″s. So after old cohort Calibre provided the 1st flip side, next up is Zero’s original colaborative partner BETA 2. Its now 10 years since the pair debuted on 4 HERO’s Reinforced, and a long awaited return to the game from BETA 2 looms large! ” CABIN PHEVER” is classic ‘Blue Note’ buisness, for those that know! Beta tickles the ivories with aplom, plucks the Double Bass and chops a break in a style remeniscent of that ginger Ninja , Rupert Parkes (aka Photek)..Two words:

FILM-NOIR

Heavy support from the likes of Marcus Intalex, Jubei, Ulterior Motive, Bailey, Loxy, Ed Rush etc.

New D ‘n’ B CD

FILMCD004 Connections – Big Bud Soundtrax CD
Following the huge success of his previous album ‘Fear Of Flying’, Big Bud delivers yet another classy and effortlessly beautiful long player, packed full of all the musicality you’ve come to expect from him and featuring special guests Utah Jazz, Furney and Mike Romeo. Robin O’Reilly, better known to the world as Big Bud, made his name crafting atmospheric drum & bass for labels likes Fabio’s Creative Source and LTJ Bukem’s Good Looking. From the soulful vocal ‘Want You So Bad’ to the Eastern influenced guitar plucks of ‘White Widow’ this album has something for everyone and Big Bud fans can rest assured that he’s updated his production to modern standards but kept all the dynamics his music lives for.

HZN036EP The Prologue – Data Horizons Music 12″ Vinyl x 2
Finish copy Promo’s. Horizons Music proudly presents The Prologue EP, a glimpse at a dystopian future, created by Data (N.Burne). Ambience, vibe, groove and experimentation are brought to the fore, whilst each track has it’s own distinct tone and direction. Heavily inspired by works such as William Gibson’s ‘Neuromancer’ and ‘Burning Chrome’, the music contained within aims to create images in the mind. Data’s also created some quotes to help set the scene. Come and take a walk through the Sprawl…
Vice Welcome to the Sprawl’s Red Light District, where anything can be bought… Lush chords and vocal stabs introduce Vice, whilst a broken and staggered beat provides the rhythm. An sleazy vibe is brought forth from the arrangement, which builds to it’s dramatic drop, with a huge bassline, that folds around the beat perfectly. The 2nd half of the track takes on a more musical approach, with lush synth tones providing a stunning melody to finish the track.
The Sprawl The dome towered over them, protecting them from the harmful rays that the Ozone layer could no longer shelter them from. Their sun was not one of gold, but of grey… Sinister ambience creeps towards you from the speaker as a heavy stepping beat provides the pace through The Spawl. Distant cries and the buzz of machinery mingle amongst each other, whilst drones buzz overhead. Dramatic effects break the beat apart before the breakdown, where a menacing bass enters the fray. Percussion hits, fragments of breaks and strange fx keep things moving throughout the track, with a distinct change in the second section keeping the listener interested till the end.
The Enemy Within Pain streaked through his body as the virus began to eat away at his cybernetics. Time was running out. Twisted and abstract, The Enemy Within is driven by it’s disgusting synth line and strange glitch beat. Technical yet restrained, it’s hypnotic patterns draw you into it’s midst, whilst bell like tones provide an ominous atmosphere. Hissing bitcrushed ride cymbals pick up the pace, whilst a distorted midtone provides the response to bass.
Antenna They fear the visionary experience, for you have to go through a kind of death to experience it… Featuring Cell and clocking in at 140 bpm, Antenna is mostly ambient in it’s approach until the later sections, where a huge thumping and distorted drum line is matched with a massive 808 bass section. Space like pads and synths and matched by strange whirring sounds, whilst distorted tones glitch in and out of it’s audio landscape. Fragments of radio messages can be heard, metaphysical messages that echo out of the speaker into your mind. A totally unique and abstract approach.

a Data – The Sprawl
b Data – Vice
c Data – The Enemy Within
d Data & Cell – Antenna

EXIT017 Live For Never (LP Sampler) – Consequence Exit Recordings 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy promo. Consequence was introduced to d-Bridge via mutual friends whilst touring New Zealand and after listening to some of his music, dbridge knew that he had found an artist with the potential to create an album suited to the labels ethos of writing music from the heart and not necessarily directed at the dancefloor. d-Bridge had just started his Autonomic podcast series alongside Instra:mental with the intention of showcasing and developing artists who were thinking outside of the conventional Drum & Bass box. Consequence has become a core member of this crew who have gone on to secure an Autonomic residency at the world famous Fabric night-club and turn many heads from outside the genre such as Laurent Garnier, Skream and Actress to name a few. The album contains collaborations with fellow Autonomic artists Instra:mental, ASC and d-Bridge and is a good representation of the versatility which Autonomic is becoming renowned for. Each track is a piece of music in its own right, but the whole album is best listened to as one long piece that flows harmonically from start to finish through different emotions and atmospheres.

INMD005 Battlecat / Grapefruit – Donnie Dubson Influenza Media 12″ Vinyl
Germany has seen the evolution of many successful labels and artists over time, including (The) Panacea, Current Value, Twintone and Blu Saphir Recordings. But more recently, Digital Colours and Fokuz LTD artist, Donnie Dubson has stepped into the fray, joining the roster of immaculate talent on one of Belgium’s most well-known chill-out labels, Influenza Media. Coming a long way from his first release on Have-A-Break Recordings in 2006, Donnie’s masterful production has landed him spots on compilations and podcasts by the likes of Phunkfiction Recordings, Hospital Records and Knowledge Magazine, while collaborating with such artists as Stunna and Andy Sim. The fifth instalment on Influenza Media features two very different but “feel good” pieces. Battlecat is lush with its’ subtle, warm bass lines, while Grapefruit pummels forward with its’ bass-heavy kicks and sweeping pad melodies. If I were to speak to Donnie myself, I’d be the first to comment on his magnificent arrangement of the breakdown on both tunes. The halftime break in Grapefruit is very welcoming, and it really does a great job working its’ way towards the dance floor for the second drop. Battlecat uses a more traditional technique, using bass stabs to push the second drop into full throttle.

New Dubstep CD

DRUNKCD001 Good Energy (A Singles Collection) – RSD Punch Drunk Records CD
RSD, perhaps better known as Bristol bass and drum music stalwart Rob Smith (one half of respected production duo Smith and Mighty), has been pushing bass heavy rhythms for more than two decades. He remains firmly at the forefront of Bristol’s endlessly inventive music scene, with a staggering discography and a range of projects encompassing dub, jungle, 2-step and dubstep, From his musical beginnings playing guitar in local roots reggae band Restriction, Rob’s music has always had a strong dub aesthetic. Forming the, now legendary, production duo Smith and Mighty with collaborator Ray Mighty in 1987, the pair’s early releases on the Three Stripe label were influential in laying the groundwork for both the trip hop and jungle scenes for which Bristol would become renowned. A period of chart success and major label involvement in the early nineties was followed by a return to their underground roots for Smith and Mighty. During this time Rob also worked with Peter D. Rose to release groundbreaking music on their More Rockers imprint. Rob Smith also went on to collaborate with local roots reggae producers Henry & Louis. This fruitful relationship culminated in 2001 with the release of the fantastic ‘Time Will Tell’ LP. More recently, Rob Smith has found a new home as RSD, comfortably adapting to the rolling, sub- heavy rhythms of dubstep. With releases on internationally respected labels such as Punch Drunk, Tectonic and Earwax, RSD’s sound is typified by impossibly heavy soundsystemtesting sub-lines and junglist dub breaks. The irresistible energy of tunes such as 2007′s infectious junglist roller “Pretty Bright Lights” and 2008′s speaker destroying dread-fuelled steppers “Over It” & “Jah Way” has rapidly cemented them as anthems. This Punch Drunk CD collection compiles tracks from many of the 12”s released in the past two years under the RSD moniker.

1 RSD – Forward Youth
2 RSD – Green Hill
3 RSD – Firewall (ft. Wilks)
4 RSD – Good Energy
5 RSD – Pretty Bright Light
6 RSD – Love Of Jah Light

8 RSD – Corner Dub (Blue & Red Mix)
9 RSD – Speeka Box

New Dubstep Releases

IME013 Elephants – October Immerse Records 12″ Vinyl
Absolute madness from Immerse here, as October is released from his minimal techno day-centre to wreak havoc amongst the dubsteppers.‘Elephants’ is a pretty appropriate name for the A, as bongo loops and ominuous machine noises are summarily flattened by the phasing bass crunch and trumpeting midrange. Add a dash of running breakbeat to the mix and you have a strange yet effective dancefloor worrier. Flipside, ‘Medium’ opts for broken techno stylings, simmering pads and clattering percussion setting the scene for the tense main event. 8/10 [recommended] Review By Diccon c/o IDJMagazine.

DP030 King Pin – The Others Dub Police Records 12″ Vinyl
Dub Police churn out yet another stonking release from label veterans The Others. Kicking off the single is the almighty ‘Kingpin’, which has been battered by the likes of Caspa, Skream, N-Type and The Scratch Perverts. With an intro full of suspense and a drop that packs one serious punch, this is a track guaranteed to bring any dance floor to submission, absolutely heavyweight! Things couldn’t be more different on the flip as The Others show their soulful side with the beautiful ‘Splinter In My Soul’, which has been kept ultra exclusive until full release! Soft melodies and warm bass with a ‘Soul:R’ esq vibes, not your usual from these boys but a stunning piece of music none the less. In a nutshell this release has it all, quality stuff from the DP camp once again.

DP031 The Future – Trolley Snatcha Dub Police Records 12″ Vinyl
Dub Police yet again show their aim of bringing through new talent with the first single of newbie Trolley Snatcha. And don’t be fooled by the name, this kid doesn’t hang around Asda nicking trolley’s all day, instead he produces some seriously big tunes! Kicking things off is the brutal sounds of ‘The Future’, with the dubplate battering stamp of approval from the likes of Caspa, The Others, N-Type and co. A quite unsuspecting intro before one serious kick in the knackers of bassline pressure, this one is straight up murderation on any dance floor! The flip sees the slightly more upbeat ‘Scattah’, which once again is not for the faint hearted and found its way in to the sets of Skream and the usual big hitters of dubstep royalty. Gritty, dark and relentless bass with pounding beats are the order of the day, making this a tough debut 12” from this young bass jedi.

HF023 Sketch On Glass – Mount Kimbie Hotflush Recordings 12″ Vinyl
Mount Kimbie have carved out another superb foursome for Hotflush, and once again the music is just as comfortable in the hiphop or electronica realm as it is dubstep. Folksy melodies and ducking piped synths swoop over garage cheek and serrated bass in opener ‘Sketch On Glass’, before ‘Serged’ takes us deeper and darker with its anti-quantised beats, spring reverb drips and surgically-altered vocals. Flipside, an epic sonic vista in ’50 Mile View’ makes way for delicate instrumental RnB before the introverted 2-step bleep of ‘At Least’. (Words C/O diccon IDJ Mag Issue 116)

KRKN010 Work Dat Box – Jaybird Kraken Recordings 12″ Vinyl
Finish Copy Promo’s. Kraken are rolling again, with their second release in as many weeks (Check out KRKN009), and it’s good to have the Denmark based don’s back! Very little is known about A-side artist and LA resident Jaybird, but i’m sure plenty of people will be on the hunt for info after this little number drops. Absolutely relentless, crushing dubstep music, a refreshingly nasty little number reminiscent in atmosphere to one of Kraken’s earliest releases ‘Eye Of The Demon’ by Wolfman (JSL), this tune is currently tearing up clubs worldwide, with support from 2000F and notably featuring on Hatcha & Crazy D’s Kiss FM radio show, you’re gunna love this one! Legendary Kraken artist JSL pops up on the flip with a brand new beat, kept relatively under wraps this one comes out of nowhere and smacks is straight round the chops like Kimbo Slice! Act quickly on this one, it won’t last.

ACRE014 Boom N Pow – Akira Kiteshi Black Acre Records 12″ Vinyl
First 500 on LTD transparent red vinyl.
Edinburgh’s prodigal son returns to the boards for another alchemic fusion of glitchy boom bap and tear out noise terror. Boom N Pow, explodes out of the starting blocks with Akira’s super fresh sound aesthetic. Solid battle hardened hip hop drums sway and tumble under the pressure of aquatic bass and citric stabs. Just as the b-boys heads are bopping the beats shrink, normal gravity is restored and the barely audible rants of Akira’s imaginary Japanese self begins the wind up to point where Akira Kiteshi justifies his new title as master of the 2nd drop. Boom N Pow (Raffertie Remix) in an attempt to win most cutting edge banger of 09 we have employed the services of Planet Mu’s hot boy Raffertie on the re-up. Here the Brum hardcore enthusiast bring bitch slap snares, degraded synths and his own unique brand drunken noise chaos. Keeping up the neck snapping pace Raff flips the script on the 2nd drop into the kind of chaos best described as Aphex Twin on a Ragga Tip. It’s big and it IS clever…. Support: Mix Master Mike, Bobby Friction, Rob Da Bank, N Type, Reso, Raffertie, Joker, Starkey, MF GLK.

IBR003 Hard Boogie For Dub Swingers EP (Part Two) – Relocate Iberian 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. The new release from Lisbon/Barcelona based Iberian Records sees the second part of Relocate’s “Hard Boogie For Dub Swingers EP” hit wax. First up are Lisbon’s Kuduro warriors Buraka Som Sistema with a remix of Relocate’s “Dot Dot Dash”. Clever micro samples from the original rub are married to an absolutely slamming b-line to create a full on floor-filler full of original flava which very successfully merges UK bass to the Portuguese sound. On the flip we have “Origins” from Relocate; which sees their unique stripped down sub-heavy bassline boogie to full effect. Relocate come up trumps once again with a full on roller of a track with trademark gliding bass dives and punchy stabs from a classic sidestepper Zed Bias sample and a very much house meets dubstep type of vibe. Both tunes are guaranteed to set the dance alight with their characteristic Iberian bass and groove flow. Support has come from the likes of Bunzero, Subsound, Markle, Blackdown, TRG, Ben UFO and Zed Bias.

COUNT026 How You Like Me Now? (Joker Remix) – The Heavy Counter 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. The Heavy return with next single from their forthcoming album, “The House That Dirt Built,” a widescreen funk epic, moving from JBs shuffle to crashing break, Animals guitar and horn fanfares, a huge build which is set to bring the house down wherever it’s played. As if the original wasn’t enough, The Heavy have compiled a superb package of remixes. Fellow West Countryman Joker, gives the original a huge dollop of Purple and comes up with something sounding like Timberlake smoking skunk in St Pauls. Sometime Mowgli-collaborator Solo goes more down a 4/4 route, building up the congas etc into a perfect example of what he calls “midget house”. Finally, Ghost takes the tempo down and emphasises the mournful backing vocals for a suitably majestic finale. As if this wasn’t enough, The Heavy have also thrown in a bonus track, “Tell It Like It Is,” a country-fried hoe-down which emphasizes just how good Swaby’s voice is. Produced by Jim Abbiss (best known for his work with the Arctic Monkeys, Adele and Kasabian), “The House That Dirt Built” is a breakthrough record from one of the most exciting bands in the UK just now. With a growing rep in the States, festival dates lined up for the summer and a huge tour to support the album this autumn, the Heavy have just built their house on your front lawn. Get used to the view.

FDLP3 Guilty Feet, No Rhythm – Rigas den Andre Flogsta Danshall 12″ Vinyl
What’s wrong with Rigas den Andre? He’s young, gifted and comes from a well-respected noble family and still his music speaks the ancient mournful language of the rocky Swedish archipelago. Because of this, RDA could be easily dubbed as the meister of melancholic electronic party music. Or “blue funk” as the exact term should be in my opinion. Take my word and dive in to the sea of emotions provided by RDA’s new album “Guilty Feet, No Rhythm”. I promise You confusion. Take a journey through the depressing digital funk of “No Heaven” or reach for the joyous synthesizer excursions of “W.A.S.P.” or “Go, Rangers, Go!”.And don’t forget to boogaloo to the epic title track which sounds like Timbaland and Björn Ulvaeus had a son. Because, in the end RDA’s music is like life itself: Gloomy, mournful, slow, but oh so funky!
