If you saw the artwork for the special test presses of The Limit, then you will know Emilski is amazing and that these will be very special. This release is to celebrate the release of ‘Retrospect – A Decade Of Fracture & Neptune’ . This vinyl release features two brand new tracks. ‘Customtone ft Martin Fieber’ and ‘Brain Freeze ft Chewie’. Brain Freeze will never be released digitally so we are giving something back to the vinyl heads with this one. They look amazing, like nothing you’ve seen before and a unique collectors item to say the least.

The production duo of Dual Process, AKA DJ Java and DJ Ben J, have been in the drum & bass scene since before it was being called “The drum & bass scene”. Initially as ravers, then DJs, and now as producers, they have been witness to the progression of the various sub genres that are now present in today’s spectrum of drum & bass music. After releases individually and collectively on several different labels Dual Process are ready to launch their own label aimed at the particular sub genre that they have successfully played in raves, clubs and on radio for the last few years.Straight up, dance floor, jump up is what’s going to be on offer from Audio Hostage Records, and to kick things off we have two heavy slices of face churning, bass ridden, ignorance capable of setting MC’s to self destruct and levelling any sound system.The A. side DRUGS is inspired by the Essex gangster scene that emerged around the early days of rave music. The eerie bleeped out intro soon leads on to brain twisting pulsation of gurgling, stuttering basslines and, for just a few bars, some dubstep breaks to make sure the substance takes hold. Remember, too much of a good thing can be dangerous.The AA. side THUGS is a little more funky but still with a hard edge. Drawing on influences from gangster rap, the bouncy bassline and bongos are backed up with police sirens, gunshots and sporadic hip hop lyrics. Something for the thugs to bounce to but still heavy enough to test any system. Both tracks ore getting heavy support from a range of DJs and radio stations such as, Hype, Crissy Criss, Taxman, Nicky Black Market, Brockie, SS, Jack Frost, Ash Attack, Hoodlum, Logan D, Profile, Pappa G, Vital Elements, Spice, Origin FM and Kool FM.

As we build up a head of stream moving into the summer months, we turn our attentions firmly to the dance-floor with two bass-heavy hitters from Subterra. Those of you familiar with the Guildford residing DJ / Producer / promoter will already be well aware of his drum & bass pedigree. Clocking up releases on Ram’s subsidary label Frequency as well as Dispatch and Sudden Def Subterra has a staunch following that regularly attend his Rotation events across the south east of England. ‘Gutter Mouth’ is as dirty as the title suggests. Swirling pads and percussion build the suspense before an explosion of contorted bass sounds and snappy high end beats. ‘Cold Shoulder’ is a collaboration with long term DJ / production partner Bazil. With it’s warm atmospheric opening it creates a sinister mood before tearing into a stepping bass-heavy workout. OH MY DAYS!!! Subtrakt drops the motherload with an album packed with the deepest and finest cuts of sub-driven machine step, by the masters and bringers of 1/4 step Current Value & Dean Rodell – Machine Code!!!’Environments’ has more flavours than an orgy in a Ben and Jerry’s factory, mixing up machine funk in a 1/4 step style with the likes of the already hailed classic ‘Machine Freak’ and the floor pounding “Circadian,” blended with the deeper dub-based creepers like flat line . ‘In the Shell’ and ‘Confessions’ offer a new breed of dubstep a cross of intense techy rhythms and tight grinding bass are compiled with distant haunting pads and vocals that infiltrate and twist your neurons beyond comprehension. Last, but far from least, are the two tracks from me on the album that sum up the diversities of Machine Code’s  ‘Environments’ – ‘Kjg’ is a broken groove number with a growling bass stabbing at air wherever the intense kick pattern allows. This track is laced with ghostly dubby fx that loosely holds the sanity together within its most disturbing sub-existence. ‘The Shadow’ is the complete opposite. Slow, delicate beats produced to perfection give this monster of all bass room to drive through and collapse lungs in its wake. DFRNT is the vowel-less moniker for Edinburgh’s bass-music experimentalist Alex Cowles. Following his acclaimed debut on Echodub in 2009, ‘Metafiction’, DFRNT has carved a niche for his own style of deep, forward thinking dubstep and techno productions. This project, a year in the making, bore fruit after Alex was commissioned to remix Unquote’s ‘Cold Tenderness’. ‘Emotional Response’ is an extended player that ticks all the boxes. Stealthy musical outings ‘True’ and ‘Slumber’ sit perfectly alongside dancefloor jaunts ‘Faster Daddy’ and ‘Relentless’ while the euphoric ‘Short Bus’ typifies everything that great about bass-music at the moment. MEDI043 – Pinch – Swish – 12″ Vinyl
Rob Ellis, AKA Pinch is the owner of one of the original and highly influential Dubstep labels Tectonic who have signed, developed and released music from some of the scene’s biggest acts such as Joker, 2562, Cyrus, Digital Mystikz, Skream, Jack Sparrow and of course Pinch. Pinch is also founder of Subloaded, Bristol’s finest Bass rave, who has recently celebrated their 6th Birthday. This is Pinch’s first release on Mala’s DEEP MEDi imprint and we feel it’s his best work to date, we’ll sure you’ll agree. ‘Swish’ has been played relentlessly by Mala over the last year as well as a select lucky few able to get their hands on it such as Skream, Loefah, Youngsta and V.I.V.E.K. ‘Swish’ is classic Pinch, dark, moody and sparse, heavily influenced by Techno, with a sub- bass and kick to destroy any bass bin, pure soundsystem music. ‘Tunnel Home’ on the flip sees Pinch in experimental mode switching up the tempo, 155. This still has the Pinch trademark darkness and efx’s but oozes a stealthily undercurrent and coldness with its complex drum programming and industrial approach, reminiscent of early Photek output.

HF029 – Sigha – Sigha EP – 12″ Vinyl
Hotflush presents its fifth release from rising producer Sigha. This EP continues his progression into subterranean techno hauntings. Since his debut on the imprint in early 2009, Sigha has accumulated support from DJs across the electronic sphere such as Francois K, Brendon Moeller, Marcel Dettmann, Ben Klock, Peter van Hoesen, James Ruskin, and many others. With this release he takes a more direct approach that maintains the cavernous atmosphere and spatial tension of his previous work on Hotflush and his own label Our Circula Sound, resulting in a collection of club tracks that evolve and sizzle with burning tenacity, ultimately bursting into the beatless closer that echoes about in an otherworldly space.

TR003 – Benton / Arc 88 – Having Fun / 2 Many – 12″ Vinyl
Started in 2005 as collaboration with a friend, Terrain records had releases from Manchester artists S.N.O & Omen, with remixes from a young Skream, and N-Type. The label lay dormant for 5 years, but for 2011 N-Type has decided to relaunch the label, focusing on 140bpm jungle & hardcore influenced dubstep. For the 3rd release on the label, N-type presents two young artists with a love for the oldskool hardcore junglist sound Benton and ARC 88. A side ‘Having Fun’ by Benton is reminiscent of early Jungle, with rolling amen breaks, thunderous Reece bassline, and classic pitched up female vocals. This tune has been a staple in N-types dubplate collection AA Side ‘2 Many’ by ARC 88 is a dancehall killah! 140bpm jungle rinser, featuring ragga vocals and a euphoric breakdown. Featured on the new Wheel & Deal Records album mix by DJ N-Type, this track is a standard reload. Both tracks are currently being battered by N-Type, Skream, Dismantle, Walsh, Bluesy, Chefal and Cluekid to name a few.

2011 sees the ever-prolific Milyoo stretching out from his Kentucky base, heading for world domination and gracing South-East London’s favourite Cassette Library with his presence along the way. Biogram v2 locks disparate vocal fragments and found sounds into a low-down, cranky House groove, peppered with a boogie down bassline and sweeping, straight-outta-Chi-Town strings. For the flipside, the in-house WNCL remix department selects a few choice clippings from the original to present a jam tailored for the trackheads with their feet on the dancefloor.

After few months of silence we are back with a new massive 12”. This time it’s Jacky Murda and Max Powa, a duo from Barcelona that goes by the name of JingBong Ting. After many years on the jungle scene, in 2006 Jacky started the Little Island project, collaborating in Brighton and Barcelona with UK producer Kion on dubby, deep, rootsy material. Tunes by Kion & Murda started to get rotation in crucial UK dances like DMZ, >>FWD , and SuperDubPressure with djs like Mala, Rusko, Tes La Rok, Joe Nice, Nick Argon, BunZer0, Noah D, Daddy G, N-Type and Itchy Robot picking up on the Little Island sound. 2009 also marked the creation of the “JingBong Ting”, a live act comprised of Jacky Murda and Max Powa. JingBong Ting’s first release dropped in 2010 on WAR records, and the second release , complete with video, “Sundown” featuring Top Cat in May 2011. On the Flip you can find a heavy Ragga-Jungle remix by HoT a DJ and Producerliving in Tula, Russia. In 2009 his remix of „Policeman and Soldiers” appeared on the famous jungle label JungleXpeditions. Today HoT continues to push his sound to the worldwide ragga-jungle massive.

RS1106 – Vondelpark – Nyc Stuff & Nyc Bags Ep – 12″ Vinyl
Formed last spring after a trip to LA by Lewis Rainsbury, Alex Bailey and Matt Law, Vondelpark’s early work found release on the Sauna EP, a record that explored the emotional blankness of modern life – plane travel, jet lag, interaction and long distance relationships, yet crackling between Lewis’ haunted voice and haunting vocal samples, Sauna was a work of precocious emotional depth and density. Home recorded and lo-fi, it blended cut-and-paste sampled beats and longingly minimal guitar lines, yet the complexity of arrangements and layers of sounds were made to feel natural and simplistic. Their second EP, nyc bags and nyc stuff, develops on the musical themes of Sauna. Still anchored by Lewis’ tender vocals it’s more abstract in its sampling and feels more musically cohesive. Rather than dealing with the emotional alienation of modernity nyc bags instead feels deeply personal, an exploration of the internal rather than external. Opening track ‘TV’ maybe best exemplifies their use of samples and the way they are built around original work, constructing stuttering melodic evocations that grow from a single repetitive loop to mingle with a sparkling guitar and implacable snatches of vocals. When the beats kick in over the refrain of ‘Colder, faster, TV’ it climaxes so subtly it could almost be missed. Second track ‘Feat B’ is the EP’s most straightforward, almost encroaching on r’n’b in its structure and influence, drawing on the genre’s sentimentality and slow jams and underpinned by a female vocal. Like much of the work on nyc bags the vocals are manipulated in a way that the original sense of what’s been used, sampled and recorded is deviated from to leave just its abstract imprint and after listening for long enough the distinction between original recording and sampling becomes blurred beyond recognition. Like ‘Feat B’, ‘Camels’ also takes something from r’n’b, but more conspicuously draws on the beats of the UK underground.

A man who should need little introduction – Benga has been famously instrumental in shepherding dubstep music from its inception almost 10 years ago, right through to the global phenomenon it has become now. Having stormed the charts and festivals recently as one third of the mighty Magnetic Man, Benga is still able to walk a delicate tightrope – consistently providing us with credible underground dancefloor music with an accessible edge. The two cuts Benga lets loose here on Kapsize, ‘Faithless’ and ‘Acid Lie’, exemplify this finely tuned understanding of how to work a dancefloor into a frenzy without losing one’s cool.So onto the music… ‘Faithless’ has been a staple of Joker’s sets for several months now – a solid power anthem of a tune. Building up initially with a 4/4 kick pattern and fast chopping cyber samples, ‘Faithless’ soon introduces a Prodigy-esque riff – something that sonically sits between a distorted guitar sample and futuristic synth sound – before laying down the sub-heavypressure of the full drop. IME027 – El Kid – Le Corbusier / 112 – 12″ Vinyl
The latest Immerse cut sees the label tapping once again into the fertile waters of haunting, leftfield 4/4, showcasing the hitherto unknown talents of El Kid. The eagle-eared out there may have picked up on the Young Echo radio show, which features Sam Kidel (to his folks) alongside West-country compatriots Kahn, Vessel and Zhou showcasing their new tracks and mixes. For most though, this will be the first they hear of the Bristol-born, Brighton-based producer. On both tracks the synthetic sheen of Detroit techno gets refigured into an almost downtempo kind of house music. The melody is king, whatever sonic texture it might manifest in, leaving you with ample layers to get engrossed in. That same quintessential yearning quality ensures that these first offerings from El Kid fit perfectly into the Immerse canon. It’ll shake the right kind of dancefloor, but it’ll also tug at the right kind of heart-strings as well.

Favourites of everyone from Sinden to Mary Anne Hobbs, R1 Ryders follow up the excellent Full Throttle EP with this newie from their self-titled label. Mixing grime, tech and UKF perfectly, these tunes will slot into a huge range of DJ boxes – the awesome “On Your Marks” especially, with its lazer-guided synth melodies, heavy wobble bass and funkified drums making it a real standout. The strings ‘n’ bounce of “Cyber” is similarly epic, while the itchy tech-funk of “Pop Shit Off” is frankly begging to have the acapella from Ludacris’ “What’s Your Fantasy” plastered over it – such is the similarity between their bassy stabs and off-kilter rhythms.

OH MY DAYS!!! Subtrakt drops the motherload with an album packed with the deepest and finest cuts of sub-driven machine step, by the masters and bringers of 1/4 step Current Value & Dean Rodell – Machine Code!!!’Environments’ has more flavours than an orgy in a Ben and Jerry’s factory, mixing up machine funk in a 1/4 step style with the likes of the already hailed classic ‘Machine Freak’ and the floor pounding “Circadian,” blended with the deeper dub-based creepers like flat line . ‘In the Shell’ and ‘Confessions’ offer a new breed of dubstep a cross of intense techy rhythms and tight grinding bass are compiled with distant haunting pads and vocals that infiltrate and twist your neurons beyond comprehension. Last, but far from least, are the two tracks from me on the album that sum up the diversities of Machine Code’s  ‘Environments’ – ‘Kjg’ is a broken groove number with a growling bass stabbing at air wherever the intense kick pattern allows. This track is laced with ghostly dubby fx that loosely holds the sanity together within its most disturbing sub-existence. ‘The Shadow’ is the complete opposite. Slow, delicate beats produced to perfection give this monster of all bass room to drive through and collapse lungs in its wake. Following on from last year’s massive No Strings Attached LP, Dom has also been working on a new album project entitled Dubs from the Dungeons. Atlas Recordings is the brainchild of the legendary DJ Lee. Conceived in 2002 and set up as a platform for his burgeoning production output, it garnered a devoted following from the very first release, the huge ‘Udon / Double Down’ from Lee himself and long time cohort D.Kay. With a bulging DJ diary, Lee lacked both the time and energy needed to really give it the care and attention it needed and Atlas sadly closed its doors just a year later on release number three. Fast forward to 2010 however and Atlas is making a comeback with Lee vowing to make it a success again this time round. ATLAS004, the first release of the relaunch, is from Lee, fellow Oxfordians Total Science and current d&b hot property S.P.Y, with two huge dancefloor tracks, – Relentless’ b/w ‘Useless’. DVA006    Dis Boy (DVA’s Hi Emotions Remix) – Cooly G / Scratcha DVA    DVA Music 12″ Vinyl
The label’s sixth release is no exception. DVA’s remix of Cooly G’s ‘Dis Boy’ turns an already seductive track into a spaced-out dream: in the place of Cooly’s stripped down production it’s got all the psychedelic electronic subtleties and twists you might expect to hear in a Berlin techno tune, but actually brings her sophisticated vocal melodies more to the fore than the original version. The rhythm’s syncopations, meanwhile, move along in lazy leaps as if dancing in lowered gravity. Bok Bok and L-Vis 1990 perform a similar job of total transformation on DVA’s own ‘Jelly Roll’. They play the original’s cheeky, cheery melody backwards, forwards, sideways and upside-down, bouncing it off itself in a hall of audio mirrors and allowing glassy synths to slide between the beats and bass. It’s a strange, slightly sinister and intoxicating reworking – one to get lost in. Bonus track ’32Da4′ is something else entirely; as you may guess from the title it’s in 3 time – a bizarre, slithering dubstep waltz that flows out of the speakers and around itself in unique style. Lesser producers would build whole movements on such an innovative tune, but for DVA it’s just another step in a compelling musical evolution.

The landmark tenth release on Distance’s almighty Chestplate imprint sees the unprecedented addition of a brand new artist to the label. South London’s Tunnidge steps up and weighs in with two tracks packing equal amounts of bass pressure, gnarl and darkness. Two certified suckerpunches on wax. Distance has been supporting Tunnidge’s beats in his sets for a while, so fans will already be familiar with his brand of ferocious and driven bass music. His sound fits perfectly into the aesthetic Distance has created with the previous nine releases of his own productions, collaborations and remixes. These tracks have the definitive dubstep sound, with space and snare smack and maximum impact. 7Breaths is a peak time stomper, which will register on the Richter scale and make cracks appear on the dancefloor. On the flip, Fear is a masterclass in the use of sampled dialogue to full affect. Its ambient intro preludes a heavy widescreen dubstep experience, executed to perfection. These tracks make you realise that most dubstep newcomers are barely out of their nappies compared to Tunnidge. With major DJ support from the likes of Pinch, Ntype, Loefah, Cyrus, Joe Nice and 12th Planet, it’s obvious that dubstep DJs and fans will see this as a record that quite simply must be bagged and Tunnidge is a name to hold up alongside the very best the scene has to offer.

Without doubt Excision and his Rottun Recordings label have been one of the dubstep success stories of the last few years. From humble beginnings in British Columbia, Canada, to a worldwide fanbase comprised of thousands upon thousands of fans. Anyone who witnessed Excision destroy dancefloors in Paris, London, Bristol, Manchester and a host of other European cities on his recent tour will understand the effect his music is having around the world. EX7 is Rottun’s sister label, and was home to one of Excision’s most recognisable hits yet, the infamous ‘Swagga’ (produced alongside Datsik). Here Excision teams up with another member of the Rottun camp to create two incredible pieces of filthy dubstep. ‘Heavy Artillery’ features Messinian, one of the USA’s most well known D&B and dubstep MCs. Taking the formula of using hip hop samples and turning it on its head with powerful original vocals that ignite the dance alongside some West Coast lead lines, this one is heavy on the hip!
Flip over and the gruesome twosome team up once more on ‘Reploid’, a gurgling bassline-led track complete with grinding syncopated synths and pounding beats. Both tracks featured heavily in Excision’s sets during his recent EU/UK tour and will no doubt be flying off the shelves this winter.

As Triad they belong to the new breed of producers, reexamining the conventions and reinvigorating the experimentation in the dnb genre which has been lacking unitl late. Two slices of mature, open minded dnb with Spellbound on the A side. A subdued, bass heavy stepper with a naughty bassline switch up. Fortune on the flip is a little half tempo number with dubbed out samples and a sultry bassline. Or as we like to call it: a slow grinder. NS007 The Velvet Connection – Velour Night Slugs 12″ Vinyl
The latest Night Slugs signing is steeped in mystery – a new project from two big producers (from the House and Dubstep scenes respectively) known only as Velour. “The Velvet Collection” is a concept EP of four subtle variations on a distinct theme: sleazy, luminescent, synth-soaked cosmic boogie infused with functionalist 808s. The EP is as much futuristic dance/sex music as it is an homage to iconic Roland hardware of the 80s. Opening track “Booty Slammer” announces Velour’s intentions right from the intro, before its longing chords give way to cavernously low booming 808 sub bass. Bittersweet as it is seductive, the track rolls in half- time, punctuated by a vocal refrain: “inside of me”. Very sensual! “The Scent Of Romance” and “Kick It Till It Breaks” both adapt the kind of jackin’ drums favoured by the Dirty Bird crew while Velour’s distinctive vintage synth work elevates them to the celestial realm. Both tracks work as spectacular tech-house centerpieces, but with enough low-end pressure to dominate any UK soundsystem. The EP is closed by “She Wore Velour”, a theme song for the project, which refigures the record’s sound palette into something more direct, driving and up-front. Arpeggiated twinkles and “Ripe Banana”-like pitch-bent beams of synth atop a massive diving sub are eventually consumed by an unforgettable chorus of keys. From the dancefloor to the boudoir, Velour is a pornographic synth odyssey on Night Slugs.

Forthcoming on Sept 6th Aquatic Lab is a debut LP from New Zealand based production unit Truth, entitled “Puppets”.

Since their debut appearance on Deep Medi Music, Truth has been hard at work on their LP and now it’s ready to drop. With the initial album sampler (LAB010 ‘Dead Silence’ & ‘Burglar’) laying the foundations, the second 12” LAB011 (forthcoming on 9th August) reinforces with ‘Juno’ & ‘Under Current’, two huge stepper grooves layered with more than enough weight for the shockout. The album itself ‘Puppets’ is a dense trip through moody big bass-driven soundscapes that include some of their finest work in the form of ‘The Fatman’, ‘Lab Rat’ and a VIP of the previously released ‘Terror Planet’. Also on the roster, Truth’s ‘Legion’, possibly their most sought-after riddim to date, which brings their trademark sound signatures of sweeping synths and massive amounts of bass fully into place. ‘Pup- pets’ touches on many styles such as the liquid offering of ‘Indigo Mood’, or the almost genre defying vocal lick ‘Don’t Explain’. ‘Puppets’ is a full bodied experience from start to finish – for darkly elegant dubstep it doesn’t get much better than this.

Truth

Truth have received DJ support around the globe from artists such as Mala, Skream, Joe Nice, Breakage, Hatcha and N Type, with their beats being dropped at shows from Club Love in New York City to DMZ in London, as well as featur- ing on radio stations BBC Radio One, Kiss and Rinse. Two comprehensive Europe tours and a string of gigs around Australia and Asia, have included an appearance at the legendary DMZ night in Brixton and the infamous Sub Dub in Leeds.

Truth’s big riddims have been quickly snatched up by a number of established labels such as seminal Deep Medi Musik and Skream’s Disfigured Dubs. I witnessed N Type drop this track back in april and it caused complete chaos – listening to this on anything other than a proper system just doesn’t do this one justice, make sure you turn this one right up to capture the destructive bassline and nasty switches throughout.

Right now the artist is unconfirmed but it’s gonna be dropping later this year. only Skream, N Type, Benga, Hatcha, Kromestar and Chef have this so to hear it played out is a rare experience.
Remember to turn this one right up.

A) Gravity

Starting off with a dreamy-like theme intro that takes you into a sick anthem that will make you want to raise your hands high, on any dance floor. Just as you are convinced that you are back in the 90ʼs raving in a dirty warehouse. D-code and Dexterous will smashes you right back into 2010 as their signature bass drops in and rolls you around on the floor like a little puppy. Gravity has already gained lots of support from DJs like…Caspa, Skream, N Type, & Mista Jam from BBC 1xtra. After you hear this track – you will dream about hearing it again. Future classic…Gravity!

B) Puppetwalk

This track starts with a rather minimalist “Twilight Zone” intro. It then drops into a heavy monster of a tune soon enough. With a baseline that sounds like it was infected by something that “didn’t kill it, but only made it stronger” It literally sounds sick! I really needn’t say too much about this one except; sparse and heavy as FCUK. Personal favorites. Love it.

C) Karma

A sparse upbeat intro shows its first glimpse of soul through a delayed chord stab that immediately throws your mind into a deeper state. The phrase “eyes down” comes to mind as this tune drops in to a really soothing and beautiful deep roller that seems to be tailor-made for your mind to drift away. At the same time it has both breaks and stabs that keep things moving. Although The Others may be more widely known for their tougher tunes to some, this is a clear reminder that they really are amongst the top producers on the deeper side of dubstep as well.

D) Dot 2 Dot

With a very suspicious thriller intro, Dot 2 Dot clearly states that you are heading for some sort of trouble. Since itʼs The Others, itʼs easy to believe it has something to do with a filthy bass line right from their bass laboratory. Mad scientists D-Code and Dexterous realized that their creation was alive, much like Frankensteinʼs monster. Only this monster is a giant, dizzy, vinyl robot that has one goal – to get you. Yea …get you good. You should definitely try this one out on the biggest and best sound system available to you.

Nusense – Obsessive Compulsive. Ontario, Canada based DJ/Producer Nusense started out listening to House music in the late 80′s early 90′s. When he was introduced to the early Drum and Bass/Jungle a few years later, he was immediately bitten. Any time off he had from travelling and competing as a sponsored skateboarder he would be attending Drum and Bass/Jungle events in Toronto and surrounding area. He got into production seriously in late 2006. Since then he has produced for MAC II, Future Thinkin, Two-Tone, Audio Textures and Vampire. Obsessive Compulsive has had Dj Support from Phil Source, Sabre, Survival, Doc Scott, Loxy, Randall, Storm, Dom and Roland and Ed Rush among others.Alex Judd aka Soul Intent has a big reputation building around him. He works out of Nottingham in the U.K. He has already had releases out on Creative Source, Blindside, Samurai, MacII, 31 Records and Horizons. This guy is part of the new breed of Drum and Bass. “Future Funk” featured on VAMPDJUK007 and was a big track on the circuit played by Fabio and Grooverider (Radio 1). Grooverider has tipped Soul Intent to be one to watch for the future! Watch out for more Soul Intent music on Vampire.

The Amen brother break is used to great effect creating an new identity of it’s own with it’s intense eq at the forefront of the mix. Helsinki-based Non Person has been crafting his quirky audio sculptures since 2006, embracing the city’s burgeoning experimental music scenes as his playground. From dirty club tracks to audio installations and deep listening, he is no stranger to the numerous ways of compressing organic emotions into expressions in data. Coming from one of the first local proponents of the new wave of multicoloured “beat” music moving feet in select locations around the globe, Presenser / Mi Empress is a study in elasticized electronic hip-hop and moist, yet fiery 140bpm bass structures. The first release bearing the Non Person name, this one is a keeper. PSQ002 Untitled / 1993 / Horizons – Furesshu Project Squared 12″ Vinyl
This 12″ picks up where Furesshu’s digital releases at a dubstep tempo on Echodub left off but also pushes into the deep, Berlin inspired techno sound that he is presently concentrating on. 1993 sounds fast for its mid 130s tempo, the bass drives the trackís pace and the delay affected stabs provide just enough melody. Horizons feels slower, you could perhaps describe it as a half step track although it twists up the formula for that sub genre. The bass evolves and changes throughout the track, rising and falling, coupled with drones and drums punctuating the track rather than providing a constant element. Untitled marks a change in Furesshuís sound. 4/4 deep techno; 11 minutes of gradual, constant evolution in the melodic parts of the track but the driving, perfectly toned kick drum and hi hats holding the groove in place. Mastered by CGB at Dubplates and Mastering, Berlin, Germany.

A. Avoid The Noid: From the start, the listener is propelled into the pure energy of this track. A steady 4/4 kick drum keeps the momentum along with scattered snares. A deep, bouncy bassline pull everything together in style along with twinkling keys and a nice short vocal. Dubsteppers who like their music with a techno tinge will love this along some tech house listeners. A great piece of energetic music!
AA. Duality: One of our favorite tunes we’ve heard in a long time and are very proud to be releasing this. A minimal intro leads into a punchy snare that slaps you across the face while the drum fill in between keep things interesting. A huge sub bassline will keep any sound system on it’s toes. This tune is all about patience and the build up to a vocal that sits so well, it’s hard to imagine a tune around like it atm. A piece of music you just have to hear to believe! ISP003 A Night on the Wonk – Wedge and Aesoteric If Symptoms Persist 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. ‘A Night on the Wonk’ is on an experimental tip with highly addictive horn and chime hooks. The Gemmy remix takes the chime section, gives it some of the well known purple treatment and turns it into a highly distinctive but slightly sickly intro. I say sickly but that’s perhaps because I’ve listened to it a lot of times in a fairly short period of time. However we’re then treated to a bleepy roller with moderate variation to keep things interesting. This makes it perfect for an early set or casual listening. ‘Detached Reality’ crackles its way through some haunting vocals and evil guitar riffs creating a tense but soothing atmosphere – detaching you from reality, sinking you into your seat while your mind starts to play tricks with itself. RSVER001 Detroit Falls / Orpheus – Pariah R&S Records 10″ Vinyl
Finish copy. Debut single for hotly tipped London based producer Pariah on the legendary R&S record label. Pariah is a precocious young talent. Part of the same London bass music scene that has spawned the likes of Burial, Bullion, James Blake, Pangaea and Untold, and part of wider loosely knit scene that includes futuristic, electronic beatsmiths such as Flying Lotus, Hudson Mohawke, Rustie, Falty DL etc. Already an in demand remixer before the release of this debut single. He has remixed current media darlings The XX (Basic Space – easy the best mix of the bunch), Brit winner Ellie Goulding (Under The Sheets), Bombay Bicycle Club (Always Like This) and might have had a hand in a certain Erykah Badu bootleg doing the rounds. The two tracks on this debut single were the his first ever finished productions and snapped up by R&S under the noses of a whole bunch of interested high profile labels. They continue the R&S tradition of releasing forward thinking electronic music, and follow the lineage of Aphex Twin, Model 500, Patrick Pulsinger and Derrick May. The two tracks on this single wear the influences on their sleeve, referencing the hip hop beat collages of Dilla and the moody atmospheric 2 step rhythms of Burial, but still contain the rich Pariah DNA which will be even more apparent on his future R&S singles. The stuff we have heard so far has blown our socks off taking influences from sources as diverse as Levon Vincent, Fennesz and classic Detroit techno as well as the likes of MJ Cole and Steve Gurley. Already a name on the lips of the hip blog crowd (featured on Pitchfork, Gorilla Vs Bear, No Pain In Pop and Rcrd Lbl) and in demand on the European underground DJ circuit this debut 10” is likely to become a collectors item and catapult him onto much bigger things.

Standing alone and defiant for decades against it’s bullying neighbours in the North, safeguarding the real gains of revolution : economic equality, decent healthcare, unequalled infant mortality and adult literacy rates for the region. But it’s a one party State, with no independent Trade Unions and no real freedom of movement or expression, and the truth is that you don’t have to be some frothing anti -Castro freak sweating it out in Miami to consider yourself a political refugee from Raul/ Fidels’ Cuba . “Stylo Pohibido” rapper Roll-X left Cuba, Havana in the late 90’s , swerved Miami, and headed straight for Hackney / London instead. His Red Smoke Family studio initially was a base for garage and UK hip-hop artists, then slowly established itself as a base for Cuban émigré Rappers in London (Papo Record, Mr Huevo, Philipsman, Michelito,Kid Africa ) Mixing up hip hop and Reggaeton (“Cubaton” ) , ‘Rejalate’, ‘Tiren’ and ‘Arranca’ here showcase the breadth of that sound : big synths, fat beats, booty bass and urgent raps steeped in Latin-British hip hop culture. ‘Rejalate’ and ‘Tiren’ are battle cries, letting everyone know the Redsmoke Family train is about to burst out of it’s Hackney base, ‘Arranca’ a tropical bomb waiting to go off. In the name of dancefloor solidarity, we called in some UK brothers to collaborate. Leicester’s finest Emvee carries on where his ‘Glitch Dub’ left off, adding rave-bass, rolling percussion and marimbas to Mr Huevo’s ‘Rejalate’ . Hackman uses RRB’s salsa piano riffs and Roll- X’s Rap over his trademark Funky rhythms to get seriously tropical. Midlands bod Max Morrell closes the package out in style with a dubby, jacking, Funky-Fidget hybrid, using a sliver of Arranca’s vocal over slamming beats and big basslines for a pulsating finale.

FRJ006 Angels Dub EP – Kuoyàh Frijsfo Beats 12″ Vinyl
Italy’s Marco Donnarumma indicated some of the potential of his Kuoyàh project with last April’s digital release for Frijsfo, earning enthusiastic tips from the likes of Boomkat. Nonetheless, there’s no doubt that his debut on wax ups the game – even in the face of a mix from Sully – by applying a focus capable of working magic in 2010′s open-ended dubstep dance. It’s an overused comparison that probably deserves to be buried, but Angel Dub does reek of Horsepower Productions, or more precisely the ducking 2-step and Basic Channel steals of Benny Ill’s classic Tempa EP with Hatcha. In this case laziness has been avoided, a sunstroked, hazy quality making it sound Kuoyàh’s own, and a judicious electronica dimension expanding the arrangement without falling into the IDM-ish trap of trying to ape something cleverer. That holds true even for the more downtempo Asia, which turns up the dub channel to find hordes of space-echo revenants chasing around. The thoroughly dust-less grooves of common soundsystem samples are absent, though, dropped for an unexpected reversioning of Artificial Intelligence bleep tones. On Soldiers, Donnarumma’s background in electroacoustic music and ambient is more obvious, in common with Chase The Comedown, 2009′s digital EP. It’s equally clear how he’s been sharpening this kind of line since then, refining trademark, half-dismantled bundles of beats to the point where everything is in just the right wrong place. Attention for this EP will understandably bend towards Sully’s Angels Dub remix, not without justification. It’s another great Jack Stevens beat, with pummelling sub-bass, arpeggios scrambled almost in the style of Zomby and an uncharacteristically martial drum track beating out something like an Addison Groove juke pattern. Kuoyàh himself, though, deserves just as much of your time on this one, trust us.

Storming Productions was the first label started by Caspa back in 2004, followed by Dub Police’s launch in 2006, since then the labels have gone from strength to strength and right now can be considered (along with Sub Soldiers, also ran and owned by Caspa) two of the biggest and most popular dubstep labels in the world.

Storming Productions has been on a bit of a break lately, but they will be back with a supreme bang in the next few months with a 2 track release from Emalkay (following on from the hit song ‘When I Look At You’ – Dub Police).

Fresh off the back of the massive single ‘When I Look At You’ & ‘AGS’ on sister label Dub Police. Emalkay steps up to Storming Productions with two wicked tracks. They have been tearing up dancefloors worldwide over the last couple of months. Both remaining permanent fixtures in the sets of Caspa, Benga, Skream, The Others, N-Type, Hatcha and just about anybody who is anybody in dubstep right now.

Emalkay

Solid State is a brutal anthem that has been melting a few faces as of late. The track has a dark and mystical intro with drums tougher than Mike Tyson’s knuckles. This is all before dropping into an unforgiving crunching bass that will bring any dancefloor to submission.

On the flip is the heavyweight ‘Battlesuit’ this is a dark roller with a real swing. An atmospheric soundscape with rolling drums that don’t prepare you for the warping sub bass. This bassline will smack you in the face at the drop, as the track seemingly morphs and progresses into a dark techy monster. Another essential release from Emalkay and a welcome return of one of dubstep’s foundation label.

Dub Police comes with the goods again. This time its the turn of one of dubstep’s founding fathers D1, here to show them what its all about. ‘Jus Business’ has been finding its way into the sets of all the big hitters lately. With its dark rave stabs, tripping jungle beats and pounding sub bass its not hard to see why – serious business from D1.

Things couldn’t be more contrasting on the flip with the energetic party roller ‘Pitcher’. Skipping beats and a quirky lead line, with funky esq. melodies and soulful grooves – a really bouncing track. All in all another top draw release from Dub Police and a quality slab of vinyl from D1 showing us just how diverse this artist really is.

DARKESTRALEX001 One Man Jettison/Boundary Part 1 (Afterthought) // Decorum – Sabre Darkestral Excursions 12″ Vinyl
LIMITED EDITION 500 copies on Black vinyl, untreated black reverse board with overprinted logo. Sabre has built a name for a certain depth in his productions, and here forces the creation of a new project for Darkestral (Excursions) which came into being on hearing this cinematic trio of pieces. Falling into musically evocative areas such as soundtrack composition, the more minimal region of dubstep and future drum & bass, Sabre here gives vent to his more thoughtful, isolationist side, where constraints have been thrown out in favour of musical freedom and the use of naturalistic instrumentation, beautiful cellos and strings perfectly encapsulate the feeling of being on a lone drift in outer space, with a certain chilled air wrapping all three pieces.
Darkestral Excursions has been brought into existence to display a series of aural ventures into the farther reaches of the beat spectrum, an edge of universe collection of anti-gravity constructs for the adventurous inner-space traveller Selected as first pilot on this mission, the cinematic compositions of Sabre, already known for a sense of spacial definition but here freed of dancefloor constraint and able to run free with the more esoteric perspective often contained in his productions ‘One Man Jettison’ in title and sound design called for the creation of the latest Darkestral project, a particular home at the front of the mothership, a capsule prepared to journey to the outer reaches, solitary and mournful, encapsulated by the strings and feeling that an intrepid journey into the unknown was upon us all, that moves into a feeling of readiness to see the mission through. ‘Boundary pt.1 (afterthought)’ follows as an epilogue and a prologue to a fantastical new horizon, textured and psychedelic, beatless and airy… ‘Decorum’ – strings and a glowing halo at the end of worlds introduces a muted brass and lush, though exploratory off-step beat as the touchdown on a planets surface is described in a sense of wonderment.

RUNTIMELP001 Messages from the Void – Elemental Runtime Records 12″ Vinyl x 3
Elemental’s imminent debut LP “Messages from the Void” is a collection of work from the last four years, spanning a range of styles, made using a combination of new and old technologies, including Elemental’s beloved modular synthesizer. He is proud to be able to present it to the world – a favour returned for all of the amazing music that has touched him throughout his years as a music listener and raver. Elemental’s fresh take on the dubstep sound has got both scene stalwarts and eclectic tastemakers singing his praises. Blending components of acid house, Detroit techno, ‘golden age’ drum & bass, vintage dubwise and African rhythm, his sound is rich in texture and musical heritage, yet remains eminently danceable. The North London based producer – Adam Wilson to his friends – started dabbling with production in 1994 with a Roland D5 and Atari ST while he was still at school. Soon after he invested in an Akai S2000 sampler, bought a PC, and the rest, as they say, is history. In the nineties he predominantly focused on making drum and bass and experimental electronica, eventually putting out his first drum and bass release as a white label off his own back. A few years later, together with schoolmate Dario Swade, they formed the breakbeat garage duo Elemental & 3D, releasing on their own label Runtime Records in 2002. A couple of years later after some time abroad, Elemental caught the likes of Search & Destroy on Rinse FM and instantly found the sound he had been looking for: dark, heavy, syncopated beats and bass. Since 2004, Elemental has been focused on bringing his newly developed sound to the masses. Combining dubbed out dirty bass lines with hypnotising rhythms, he has released on labels such as Destructive, Hotflush, Pitch Black, Halo Beats, and his own imprint Runtime, with his seminal track “Soulfire” one of the highlights on Tayo’s Fabriclive mix CD. He was officially the first person to do a live dubstep performance, mixing up and dubbing components of his productions using Ableton Live to rapturous audiences across the world: no set is ever the same twice.

DST008 Blues Is Now – Funk Ethics Destructive Records 12″ Vinyl
3-track debut release from the UK’s Funk Ethics, first noticed and permanently represented by London’s legendary Dubstep label Destructive Records. “Blues Is Now” is the tune that launched FE into the limelight and was quickly picked up by Mary Anne Hobbs and showcased on her Radio 1 show, it was originally featured on the Destructive CD album which came out fairly recently (DSTCD001). Two brand new tracks “Dub Fluid” and “Trans Europa Step” are showcased on the flip, good support and a good buzz on these tracks as the funk-tech sounds of the Funk Ethics roll on into 2010.

Lisbon-based Octa Push are the newest recruits on the Iberian label and here they come up with the goods on this very distinctive international flavoured 3-tracker – following their debut vinyl release on Soul Jazz Records, Stepper’s Delight 2 compilation. Having blown up the Red Bull Stage at this year’s Sonar in Barcelona and wowed people at Fabric and the Glade Festival with their unique flow; which sees them combine the Portuguese and African sound spliced with elements of UK Garage, Dancehall and Techno. Both “Deixa” with Toni Clean, resident in Portugal and from the Cabo Verde Isles, and “Baila Mundo”, with the legendery MC Zulu and his distinctive randomised dance hall cadence, show Octa Push as accomplished producers – having already remixed the likes of Buraka Som Sistema, Debruit, Mochipet and Dj Znobia, to name a few – and skilled at using original vocals over their bass line driving funky beats; whilst “Dubshh” is a marvellous bustling and punchy instrumental rub perfectly illustrating their bass and groove style. PSQ001 Small Hours – Asusu Project Squared 12″ Vinyl

Project Squared aims to release 12” vinyl and download projects that are dance floor focused, that test new ground and that have depth as well as impact. We release music that covers the space between Techno and Dubstep as well as music that stays more firmly within those two genres. Created as a sub-label of Project Mooncircle due to a change in taste from one of the co-ordinators of that label, we were amazed to find two artists (Asusu and Furesshu) that were not signed such was the quality of their music. Still in early stages, the label aims to keep releasing high quality dance music, to gather more artists and to change and evolve as styles change and evolve… Most importantly as our own tastes change and evolve. Project Squared is a sub-label of Project Mooncircle and is affiliated with HHV.de. The label is co-run by Paul Cooper and Gordon Gieseking. Artwork and design is by Gordon Gieseking. Asusu – Now a dubstep producer with his sound tied to the deeper side of things, Asusu has moved from roots in hip hop and trip hop through to garage, dubstep and dub techno. Recently he has received radio play from various DJ’s on Sub FM, Dubstep FM and Reload Radio, and DJ’s himself (dubstep, garage & techno) mainly in Bath and Bristol. His tracks have received accolades in Mixmag and ATM (L.V. and XI’s top ten charts). He currently holds a residency at Rocksteady, Bath’s first monthly dubstep night, and also regularly co-hosts a show on Sub.fm alongside Trigga.

Finish copy. Born and bred in Croydon, 19-year old Justin Cantor, a.k.a Lost, is the latest addition to the acclaimed HENCH crew. Somewhat of a child prodigy, Justin started DJ-ing at an early age, and got his first set of decks aged 12. It was not long before Justin’s attention was caught by the burgeoning dubstep movement; inspired by the sounds of Skream and Digital Mystikz’s, he turned his hand to dubstep production early in 2008. Soon after, his debut release came out on Hatcha & N-Type’s ‘Croydon Dubheads’ EP. He recently was named alongside Emalkay and 16 Bit as one to watch in Radio 1xtra’s ‘Future Sound of Dubstep’. We’re proud to present Lost’s debut release on the Hench imprint and are sure that you’ll enjoy it.
A. IRONHIDE – Lost creates a seriously atmospheric mood from the start in Ironhide, building to a subtle drop of one mean reverbed wobbly bassline. AA. SLAUGHTERED – Flip over for another bass-led rhythm, from Lost. Pushing a different tone from the A side (yet no less menacing), ‘Slaughtered’ immediately surrounds you with its rolling filtered wobble. This is one futuristic sounding bass riff. BUILD001 Tongue Riddim – Baobinga & I.D Build 12″ Vinyl
Operating out of the same stable as Tectonic, Kapsize, Earwax and Caravan, Multiverse brings you a new label, Build, hitting the exciting space where Future Garage, Dubstep, UK Funky and all things Bass intersect. Headed up by renowned bass-music ambassador Baobinga, known for his massive releases on Soul Jazz (with Tayo & Spyda) and Trouble & Bass (with Detroit’s DJ Nasty), as well as his wide-ranging DJ sets across the globe (including an appearance at Fabric’s 10th Birthday this October), the first release on Build sees Baobinga joined by regular partner in crime I.D. (Boka, Mata-Syn, Cool & Deadly).
