New D&B Releases

REVREC023 – Nocturnal & Hybris – Pyramids – 12″ Vinyl
Next stop for Revolution features another new recruit to our ever growing army, Hybris. After his huge EP for Noisia’s label Vision and releases on Critical and Blackout, this producer is rapidly rising up the dnb ranks. “Pyramids” sees Hybris teaming up with Revolution stalwart Nocturnal to deliver a moody classic brimming with bubbling basslines and razor sharp beats. Some serious technological wizadry going on here! “Lair” takes a crisp electro-tinged beat and a perpetuating bassline and merges them together to create a deep roller with plenty of atmosphere. Definitely one to get those dancefloors rumbling!

DIS048 – Survival & Silent Witness / Survival – Anty / Ever Clear – 12″ Vinyl
On the A side of ‘Dispatch 48′ we have 2 producers who need no introduction with a track that seems to set the screwface look going on any dancefloor it drops in on. This is clearly another studio pairing that really hits it off in the at the controls and needless to say on top of this track we present you right here there will be more superb music forthcoming from these 2 on the label in the future – this we promise. Please play extremely loud. Expertly mastered at ‘Exhale Audio’ LTD. The flip sees Survival go solo with a track that really sounds unique and to be pretty honest we’re finding it hard to describe, however its definitely containing his signature bass and synth sounds put to great effect. Put simply its a stepping number with a sub bass on the drop that is more than lethal to say the least. Support in the clubs and on radio from the likes of: Ant TC1, Break, Cern, Nymfo, Calyx, Anile, Chris SU, Octane & DLR, Sabre, Amoss, Siren, Vicious Circle, Dabs, BluMarTen, Subterra & Xtrah.

MODULE008 – D Minds – Subcrate / Stone River – 10″ Vinyl
Moving up and moving on is the ever on point Modulations imprint, part of the formidable Critical Music empire. This time Kasra hauls in a duo familiar to most, a duo who’ve been a staple part of the D&B world for the best part of the last decade; step forward Bristol’s D*Minds. ‘Sub Crate’ intros delicately with dark pads and a stripped back break that prep us for the badman steppa that’s about to take flight. Drop dread bass is it what it’s all about as D*Minds take us back in time to the early Full Cycle days with heavy kicks, reverse FX and a punching b-line that doesn’t give up. Dangerous without a doubt! Drawing yet again from their heavy west country influence ‘Stone River’ flows nervously through a windswept cityscape with syncopated breaks, slow-rise bass and percussion fills that keep things moving in an otherwise fairly minimal slice of D*Minds artillery. Great to hear Critical bringing out something a little different from these guys.

RECIPE022 – Sato – Glide / Detroit Lies Bleeding (Phobia Remix) – 12″ Vinyl
After the success of the Recipe Book album, Ingredients return to their next 12” single from long stalwart Sato. “Glide” is reminiscent of late 90’s Matrix, with it’s bulging bass line and 2 step drums. Flip for a remix of Sato’s biggest tune so far “detroit lies bleeding” by Phobia. Taking the original and flipping it on it’s head, this monstrous roller has been cained for months by Andy C and will feature in many sets upon it’s release. Perfect dj friendly material and a return to business for Ingredients. SPY “Excellent 5/5” Total Science “Big” Nu:Tone “Full Support”

Mystifications track Crackup was one was the most popular Hardline in recent times. This jaw dropping VIP remix takes no prisoners, its a real lesson in brutality! Stormtrooper providing the track for the flip side, a man who, as you’ll see below, is featuring heavily on Hardline this time round!

HARDLINELP001 – Paul Blackout – NumberOneChampionSound / Die Motherfuckers Remixes – 12″ Vinyl x 2
I’m still torn between the remix & original of number1championsound. Paulblackout’s original is a hard edge, amen packed, classic! But the remix by Producer is such a great remix too, clocking in at just under 9 mins this is a real epic reworking.

MEDI046 – Clouds – A Lot Of Calls From No One Part 2 – 12″ Vinyl
full colour sleeve, 180g pressing. Clouds are a Finnish electronic music production team that consists of Tommi Liikka and Samuli Tanner. Tommi is a Helsinki native and Samuli comes from a small village deep in rural Finland. The pair met through mutual friends in 1999, and ever since planned on producing music together, hindered by both working on various projects and shows of their own. The plan was finally realised after a string of coincidences and happy accidents led them to sharing a house in the northern suburbs of Helsinki. This is the 3rd release from Clouds on Deep Medi Musik, the follow up to ‘Protecting Hands Pt1&2’.

CBR001 – Om Unit vs Kromestar – Solar Cycle / Merkabah – 12″ Vinyl
Cosmic Bridge is the new label of Om Unit, the London based DJ & Producer. Striding into 2011, Cosmic Bridge declares it’s debut with a killer release in the form of an Om Unit & Kromestar collaboration. Om Unit says of the label: “I took this collaboration as a green light to start my own imprint for side projects to my own stuff. The name speaks for itself, just have a listen, we hope you enjoy” The collaboration came about when Om Unit heard new Kromestar material being played on Rinse fm by DJ Jay 5ive, dubs were exchanged with mutual support. What started out as a casual exchange has culminated into something far more profound. Eager ears could do worse than to watch Cosmic Bridge closely this year. Lorn – “Either this came from space traveling dons from universe 9, or some ancient utopia… either way I love it.” Joker – “Sick, i can hear both producers in this” Kutmah – ‘’Sounds fucking AMAZING” Pinch – “these tunes with kromestar are very very good” Machine Drum – “West coast meets UK in the most perfect way. Compton in 2030’’

KAP007 – Benga – Faithless / Acid Lie – 12″ Vinyl
Kapsize is very proud to present our next release from none other than international dubstep superstar – BENGA! A man who should need little introduction – Benga has been famously instrumental in shepherding dubstep music from its inception almost 10 years ago, right through to the global phenomenon it has become now. Having stormed the charts and festivals recently as one third of the mighty Magnetic Man, Benga is still able to walk a delicate tightrope – consistently providing us with credible underground dancefloor music with an accessible edge. The two cuts Benga lets loose here on Kapsize, ‘Faithless’ and ‘Acid Lie’, exemplify this finely tuned understanding of how to work a dancefloor into a frenzy without losing one’s cool. So onto the music… ‘Faithless’ has been a staple of Joker’s sets for several months now – a solid power anthem of a tune. Building up initially with a 4/4 kick pattern and fast chopping cyber samples, ‘Faithless’ soon introduces a Prodigy-esque riff – something that sonically sits between a distorted guitar sample and futuristic synth sound – before laying down the sub-heavypressure of the full drop. A massive club tune by even Benga’s own standards! Flip then for the equally excellent ‘Acid Lie’ which leads with a looping, low-slung and sleezy live bass line – think something from the soundtrack to Kill Bill or Snatch, warning the imminent presence of some bad dudes! Rising textures bring in the leading acid riff line which continues to morph dynamically over the thundering sub bass. A retro rave reference with a very futuristic twist – one for the heads and the ravers alike!

aa Benga – Acid Lie

NONPLUS015 – Jon Convex – Radar – 12″ Vinyl
Next up on the label is this brilliant two-tracker from Instra:mental’s Jon Convex. Serving as a taster of his forthcoming debut solo album it’s a hugely impressive 12″ with both sides demanding your attention. There’s a nice old skool eerie, electro feel throughout and the tracks manage that nifty trick of sounding like something from the past and the future at the same time.

NL010 – Boddika / Instra:mental – Grand Prix / Vicodin (Skudge Warehouse Mix) – 12″ Vinyl
Limited Coloured Vinyl pressing. One of my big favourite Instra tunes is Vicodin (released with Let’s Talk – a dark, foreboding dubstep classic) and it gets a makeover by Skudge who are getting mentions everywhere right now. Check this track; even the waveform looks f***in’ dark! Skudge warp it into something between dubstep and house but with all the downer-rhythm that really makes this track. Along with the remix there’s more from Boddika in Grand Prix. Short and sweet little hypnotic bounce track with serious dancability. Kind words from: http://blogandbass.wordpress.com

GREC020V – Enchante – North End EP – 12″ Vinyl
Greco-Roman welcomes a new artist to its camp: following some first appearances at the collective’s local events, London-based producer Enchante will soon release his debut EP North End there, while playing the next Berlin label night this Saturday with Azari & III (DJ set) and others at Picknick. And the new material perfectly fits into the usual Greco-diversity: opening track “Ego” offers deep UK garage, while “Reggay” (despite its name) comes in as the finest skweee-2step we have heard in a long while.

FRJ010 – Cardopusher / Desto / Geiom / Submerse – Frijsfo Beats Volume 3 – 12″ Vinyl
Frijsfo Beats come with the biggest drop yet in their series of vinyl EPs compiling work from various artists. As usual it’s evidently curated with a distinctive ear, tuned to wilder mutations of garage and dubstep. Volume 3 sees Geiom return, by now a label stalwart, but is largely about new blood, delivering a hefty load of talent to the roster all at once in Cardopusher, Desto and Submerse. Cardopusher will shock anyone who thinks they have him pinned down as a purveyor of jump-up tracks, albeit high quality ones. “Then What” pulls the covers from the Venezuelan’s real talent, for rugged techno soul and the kind of weighty but improbably elastic rhythm section that marks out a cannier producer. Though sharper heads will have clocked his recent album for Tigerbeat6, for sheer rewind and replay value his contribution here stands out memorably. Desto isn’t the only Finnish producer to get ahead in the hype game recently, but he stakes out his territory in muscular fashion. His remix of Kuoyah’s “Convex Gravity” (released digitally last year on Frijsfo) follows two excellent twelves for Ramp Recordings. Unexpectedly but grippingly, his inner bruiser gets the cue to come out chopping and screwing: pitching juke-like drums and vocal buckshot at will and scalding the lot with something like the extra corrosive byproduct of an acid line. Geiom won’t necessarily surprise fans of the rangy capabilities represented on his own Berkane Sol imprint and his Frijsfo EPs, Tone Generation being the latest to hit shelves earlier this month. He should delight plenty however, as he jams a grinding 2step beat with slippery tones and stroboscopic gating, the kind of computer madness Underground Resistance might transmit as a distress call from the nth dimension. Last but not at all least Submerse steps out for the label, arguably in overdue fashion. The hugely popular producer has inspired the diverse likes of Well Rounded, Fortified Audio, Mad Decent and Ministry of Sound all to jump on the wagon in some capacity so far. There’s a strong case that “Bubblin’” is his best tune yet, shying away from more blatant moves in favour of a gossamer touch. Low end dynamics are fully present, but beyond the subs it’s all headroom, giving the merest after-impression of a summer garage anthem space to blossom.

a1 Cardopusher – Then What
a2 Kuoyah’s – Convex Gravity (Desto Remix)
b1 Geiom – Chip Voices
b2 Submerse – Bubblin’

New D&B Releases

RECIPE021 – Skeptical / Mute & Mako – Recipe Book Volume One Part Four – 12″ Vinyl
Part 4 of the album 12”s brings label favourite Skeptical back to his best with ‘Refraction’. Think Ed rush & optical, with it’s savage feel & Skeptical adds his own disjointed rhythms. A monster bass line & excellent arrangement. Flip for Mute & Mako’s brilliant “Rorschach”. This is straight up dancefloor tear-up, no messing the guys have produced a killer. These tracks on heavy rotation in the sets of Break, Klute, Spectrasoul, Doc scott, Ed Rush, Nymfo & many more.

ILL013 – Ill Skillz & Dub FX – ‘Nectar & Ambrosia’ Album Sampler – 12″ Vinyl
Album sampler from the Ill Skillz debut album ‘Nectar & Ambrosia’, forthcoming end of June. An amalgamation of Drum n Bass, Dubstep, Techno and, yes of course, Trance…. produced by the mighty D Kay and long time studio partner Rawful. The album features the one and only Dub FX on vocals, alongside thunderous bass and raw drum breaks. Works both as song and dancefloor smasher! Flip for a deep melodic workout with a nice orchestral mid section.

VSN011 – Noisia & Phace – Program / Regurgitate – 12″ Vinyl
Noisia’s uncompromising approach to dance music has never been more keenly felt. While they’re turning out remixes for commercial acts such as Katy Perry and Deadmau5 that sound just as filthy as any usual Noisia production, the Dutch trio are also sticking to their D&B roots with releases on their own Vision imprint. For Vision’s latest release label bosses Noisia team up with long-term collaborators, Phace, to whip up ‘Program’. As you’d expect from one of their collabs, this one is hard and heavy complete with an intense breakdown reminiscent of Wolfgang Gartner’s ‘Undertaker’. Winding bass notes finish the job and rib-crushing subs will have the dancefloor churning every time this drops. Flip over and ‘Regurgitate’ brings you in slowly, stuffing you gently with an epic atmosphere and sultry guitar licks. Looped vocals bring you up to the drop before a trademark Noisia bassline pukes all over your best dancing shoes. If this one doesn’t get people ‘going sick’ we don’t know what will!

b Noisia – Regurgitate

IMLTD1203 – Mortem – Stratos – 12″ Vinyl
For its third vinyl release, IM:Ltd , the French based label, is proud to bring you the first 12inch from homegrown artist Mortem. Only aged 21, the polish teenage wonder has been quick to set a reputation for his name and producer skills as proven by the success of his previous digital releases on IM:Ltd. As a matter of fact check ‘Stratos’, a heavyweight piece of minimal drum & bass that instantaneously grabbed the favors of heavy players such as Sabre, Data or Loxy. Urban landscape and blissful synths, ‘Synchronicity’ is a subtle ambient track that will give you more sweat than a Brooklyn summer heatwave. Finally on the flip, Chicago dnb master Stunna delivers an uplifting remix of ‘Stratos’, giving a perfect counterpoint to the original with a more classic dancefloor twist.

UNION003 – Current Value & Cooh / Switch Technique & Forbidden Society – Optic Nerve / Blood Extract – 12″ Vinyl
One the A side you will find Optic Nerve by Current Value and Cooh. They both have been pushing electronic music genres to its limits of perfect sound and pure dancefloor destruction all the way. Optic Nerve combines everything what is unique and the best of Curent Value and Cooh style, and what makes You think of that track as one of the most devastating dancefloor stompers ever! Flip it over for Blood Extract, another stellar collaborative banger from Switch Technique and Forbidden Society. These guitar riffs, gabber kicks and destructive drumandbass snares make every dancefloor jumping like a bunch of maniacs! It’s obvious that these guys are smashing up the scene with their hardcore, dark and chopped up dancefloor killers. Taste it and enjoy it!

New D&B Promos

MODULE007 – Dub Phizix – Break It / Four – 10″ Vinyl
Keeping things as fresh as ever, Kasra’s Modulations imprint picks up some more rocksteady beats from someone on the tip of everyone’s tongues at the moment, Dub Phizix. With other releases already on Soul:R, Fabio’s Creative Source, Ingredients and more this is one Manchester export that we’ll be hearing a lot more of in then future. ‘Break It’ kicks off with a simple intro with only a teasing glimpse of the bass that’s about to drop but when it does you’d best be ready! A stepper’s paradise then as the staccato break rolls on with deep sub and the gurgling mid-range that serve the ‘break it’ vocal perfectly. A very polished production indeed. ‘Four’ is all pitched down warning sirens and sinister pads from the off, creating an uneasy atmosphere for the crystal clear beats to bump into and move out across another slab of delicate but dangerous D&B for the deeper heads on the floor. Fans of old Krust records are gonna love this! DJ support from D Bridge, Spectrasoul, Kasra, Marcus Intalex, Jubei and more.

SYMM008 – Break / Villem – Something New / Do You I Wanna – 12″ Vinyl
After the critically acclaimed release of ‘Slow Down VIP’, Break quickly returns with Symmetry’s 8th release. On the A-side, Break lead’s the way, stripping it back with ‘Something New’. This track is a definite head-nodder that retains the classic Break heavy -bass manipulation! Villem aka Andrew Wilson heads up the highly anticipated flip side with ‘Do You Wanna, I Wanna’. Also a key member to Utopia Music, Villem has DJ support from the likes of LTJ Bukem, Doc Scott, Bailey, Martyn and many more. He’s a man of many talents and is also one half of production duo Mute, who are often seen collaborating with rapidly rising Bristol producer Mako. This fantastic AA side completely captures the Symmetry vibe with a quintessentially liquid piano and vocal combination moving into some untouchable percussion. With growing DJ support across the board, Villem is definitely a name to look out for this year.

DISLTD001 – Survival / Bal – Cash / All City – 10″ Vinyl
The Dispatch Recordings camp proudly presents the first release on the limited offshoot, Dispatch Ltd. With all cuts set to be on extremely limited 10” press, this is not a release to sleep on – featuring Survival and Bal the opening release sets this collectible edition of the Dispatch catalogue off on the strongest foot forward. Fresh out the studio, the A side from Survival showcases his production craft, effortlessly balancing both the musical and driving dance floor elements that we have come to know as standard from him in recent times. Currently receiving an excellent response on dance floors across the country, this is not to be missed! Accompanying the A-side on the flip of this release is a tune that we are pretty sure you won’t want to overlook. Having remained a hugely sought after yet unidentified tune for quite some time, Dispatch proudly announce Bal’s ‘All City’ is due for release, finally bringing some identity to this hidden gem. CITRUS046 – Black Sun Empire / Quadrant & Cease – Subsonik Remix EP – 12″ Vinyl
Citrus presents the second part of the remixes series. After the HUGE succes of the SICKNESS remix by ZERO METHOD that was at number 1 at the Beatport drum’n bass charts we have the new remixes part by Subsonik. The A1 holds the Subsonik remix of the BLACK SUN EMPIRE classic CRASH BUNNY on Citrus024. Subsonik understands the sound of the original perfectly well and turns the neuro tech-step roller into an epic work, completely with new arranged intro with an emotional twist and big Neuro dnb basslines. Rrrrolling! On the flip we find the Subsonik remix of Citrus favourite ‘Rage and Rapture’ by Quadrant which featured on Citrus029. After the already well received remix by ‘State of Mind’ on the Quadrant EP we now have another addition to the series. Subsonik builds a great epic intro for the track with a half step rhythm to gets the crowd screaming for more. Once the beat drops in you will understand why. Massive tunes!

TRNSL007 – Furi Anga / Slider & Expose – When Our World Jaded (Seba Remix) / Hooked (Survival Remix) – 12″ Vinyl
Translation Recordings returns to vinyl with a pair remixes from two scene veterans, selected to provide a fresh perspective on the digital catalogue. Up first, Seba applies his signature style to Furi Anga’s ‘When Our World Jaded’, where twinkling hi-hats and dreamy pads drift into meticulously chopped breaks, spliced drum edits, and warm bass tones with enough low-end to rattle your chest. As the track progresses, a filtered reese surges in and out of the arrangement for added bite. On the flip, Survival revisits Slider & Expose’s jazzy ‘Hooked’ and rolls out a soulful remix with heavy, shuffling drums, deep sub treatment, and a techno midrange that complements the track’s more subtle melodic elements to deliver a refreshing and energetic tune for the summer.

AR002 – Jade & Mastif / Engage – Hyperion / Overbreaker – 12″ Vinyl
The latest highly anticipated release from the USA based Ammunition Recordings features tracks from Jade & Mastif, plus Engage on the flip. Jade & Mastif and start proceedings with Hyperion.Featuring a unique stuttering beginning, this track blossoms into a fully fledged roller. Combining a filthy neurofunk bassline, along with intricate drums and precision engineered percussion, this track is a fresh, complex take on the classic neurofunk theme. An energetic, synergy of the slick production from Hungarian veteran Jade, and the creative input of Mastif, this is sure to keep the dance-floor hyper. The other side of this release features Overbreaker by Engage.  Hailing from Russia, Engage has caused a stir in the Drum and Bass scene, with support including artists such as Noisia, Ed Rush and Concord Dawn.  This track goes some way to explain why. Beginning with a  futuristic synth laden intro, Overbreaker promises much. Following the sound  of a gun trigger, it drops into a powerful dance-floor weapon. Hard hitting beats, deep bass and intricate effects, tied together with quirky synth stabs ensure this one is sure to get the club moving.”

BUILD006 – Guido & Baobinga – Ballin’ / Bumba – 12″ Vinyl
If you thought we were spoiling you with the last Build release (Baobinga & Hyetal’s joint 12″, loved and played by pretty much everyone), then you should probably look away now. Yep, once again, the game has been upped most thoroughly: BUILD006 sees Guido, one of the most original talents to emerge from the fertile Bristol scene, team up with genre-blind bass-music badman (and label boss) Baobinga, for another collaborative 12″ of impeccable quality and taste… And of course, weird artwork. Pon the A, Ballin’ sees the pair take skeletal crunkstep as a starting point, before gradually building into an epic maelstrom of synth-led goodness, with an unexpected twist at the very end of its musical tail. Pinch’s first reaction on hearing was to demand a flat WAV to take to the cutting house – high praise indeed. Meanwhile, the AA, Bumba, may be familiar to fans of Jackmaster, who previewed an early version of the track on Mary Anne Hobbs’ Radio1 show back in April 2010. Slowing the tempo slightly, and with layers of custom-built percussion adding delicious ear-candy to the emotive collection of synths, strings and marimbas (!), this is the kind of tune where, as was once said about Derrick May’s DJing, you don’t know whether to dance or cry. We would recommend doing both, and then maybe having a sit down… Cos shortly after this release, Build will be dropping ‘Baobinga & Co. – Joint Ventures’, a full CDs worth of fresh collaborations with the cream of the British bass music scene. Dutty! Support from: Crookers Sinden Jackmaster Scratcha DVA Alex Nut Braiden Simbad Starkey Geiom Seb Chew Shortstuff, Brackles, Bok Bok, Hyetal, Pinch etc…

KGO004 – Beaumont – Blush Response EP – 12″ Vinyl
Beaumont, alias Michael Rintoul, is a young Scottish producer and creator of hypnotic R&B dream pop-soundtracks for late night bliss-outs. Described by inimitable Brighton- based blog 20jazzfunkgreats as having produced, “by a strike of genius and inspiration”, the authentic soundtrack to “a really cool Z-series 80s thriller”, Kinnego is proud to present his debut release, “Blush Response”. Opening track “Tokyo” sets the scene, a wistful night-time groove with almost dubstep intentions and layers of subtly building melody. “Foreign Intrigue” combines chillwave textures with heavy sub-bass and halftime drums into a sweetly composed piece of synth pop, full of Europhile yearning. “Aventurescence” is a talkbox-driven slowgroove that ends in waves of melodic synth bliss. “Lucky” returns to the atmospheric cityscape conjured by “Tokyo”, sounding like dubstep as made on a Fairlight in 1982, full of emotion and breathless invocations. The most overtly vocal track, “Midnight” seems to reference 80s Marvin Gaye with its drum machine and electronic piano palette and lovelorn emotional delivery. Recalling a more minimal Eurythmics, “Flesh + Blood” blends guitars and synthesized cellos into a desirous, heartbroken pop song for hopeless romantics. And closing the EP, title track “Blush Response” begins in layers of continental VHS hiss and jaunty melody before settling into a headnodding groove adorned with lush vocals and retriggered samples. A unique and immensely addictive debut from a very bright new talent.

JONES002 – Sharmaji – How To Move / Twist It Left – 12″ Vinyl
For Davey Jones’ second voyage, we journey to the other side of the Atlantic to bring you two dark percussive machinations by Brooklyn’s Sharmaji and DJ Wade. Best known as two members of the Sub Swara crew, who released their album “Triggers” to critical acclaim earlier this year, this release finds them exploring more mysterious territory. Sharmaji goes in alone on the A-side with a unique take on the current “percussion and bass” sound with a distinctly darker and warmer edge. A favourite of the likes of Ben UFO, this one does some serious dancefloor damage. The B side goes darker still, with an almost Shackleton-like take on tribal minimalism, disclosing Sharmaji’s day job as a professional Tabla session musician.

PL014 – Vesicle – We Are Lost EP – 12″ Vinyl
A true showcase of Vesicle’s creativity, versatility and dark bassline science, the We Are Lost EP contains 4 deep and dark Dubstep excursions and makes a strong case for this Finnish duo’s inclusion among the genre’s best and brightest of the new generation of sound visionaries. The title track ‘We Are Lost’ is a beautiful, dark anthem combining haunting vocals with live guitars, intricate melodies, precisiondrum programming and fat slabs of bass. The result is a well-rounded, catchy and melancholic masterpiece. ‘Smoke curls’ switches up the program, engulfing the listener in deliberately lo-fi sound fx and percussion whilst conjuring up deeply emotional, melodic bliss by juxtaposing a dusty piano with a soaring, distorted, filtered leadline of 8-bit chiptune charme. Destined to become a dark breakstep anthem, ‘Mythos’ harks back to the late 90′s Metalheadz sound with its epic synthlines, eery vocals and massive, growling Reece bass constructions. ’Redemption’ completes this vicious circle with a journey to the depths of darkness, attesting to Vesicle’s true mastery of uniquely filthy bassline construction on this stripped-down vision of despair. To ensure that this EP looks as mindblowingly sick as it sounds, the vinyl release features stunning, limited-edition full sleeve artwork!

FOKUZCD007 – Donnie Dubson – Monday Is The New Sunday – CD
In the impressive flow of new talent in 2011 on Fokuz recordings we already had the pleasure to present the sound of Brother, Command Strange and Intelligent Manners among others. The next flavour of the funky liquid melting pot called Fokuz Recordings goes by the name Donnie Dubson. Berlin based Irishman Donnie O’Sullivan aka Donnie Dubson started releasing his funky rollers on Have a Break and Influenza Media and already featured on Fokuz on the Chronicles of the Deep LP together with Stunna back in 2007. The Grapefruit / Battlecat release on Influenza Media in 2009 got him a lot of attention and is still heard in dj sets today. Now it’s 2011 and Fokuz presents the beautiful debut album of Donnie Dubson! His sound can be described as refreshing and original Liquid drum’n bass with a touch of the well known atmospheric drum’n bass vibes from the mid 0′s. His basslines are the unique sellingpoint as well as his ability to create an organic feel in the music that’s only done by the few who truly understand what liquid drum’n bass is all about. Pleasuring both critical listeners and the dancefloor audience this album is a perfect overview of the sound FOKUZ stands for. A great example of how music can be ‘time-less’ in this decade of fast moving consumer goods.

CRIT055 – Code 3 – What You Sayin? – 12″ Vinyl
Fresh for the summertime shine is yet more goodness from camp Critical with a diamond dubplate burner straight out of the Code 3 studio. The production trio made up of SP:MC, Jubei and Dakuan show their pedigree for CRIT055 with two slabs of almost retro D&B that could only have come been from scene stalwarts like these. Quality through and through. ‘What You Sayin’ runs out with simple two-tone chords and a staggered break to ease us into this creeping cut of subtle but definitely dangerous drum & bass. Snapping snares roll out, sub thuds from beneath as the gnawing b-line wrestles its way to throughout rearing its head then ducking beneath the surface only for the smooth keys to return to the mix. A classy piece of contrasting moods that’ll sit perfectly on the Critical collector’s shelf. Over the page ‘Double Dipped’ intros with another big break and spooky, quizzical pads and a winding double-bass that weaves its way in gently to the drop. Perhaps reminding of the Full Cycle and Talkin’ Loud golden era this one is a hard-stepping, funked up track that’ll have the floors calling for the reload. Awesome! DJ support from Hype, Friction, Jubei, Fabio, Marky, Kasra, S.P.Y. and many more.

EXIT029 – ASC – Stutter – 12″ Vinyl
After releases on Exit affiliated labels Nonplus and Autonomic, ASC releases his debut 12” on Exit with two tracks that as usual, experiment with the 170bpm tempo and bring fresh and intriguing results. Stutter is one of those tracks that comes around every once in a while and really stands out in terms of originality. Starting with a marching hip hop style drum break the intro progresses through a range of outstandingly programmed percussion elements that “stutter” around the main drums giving a jerky and rough backdrop for futuristic synth fx and lead patterns. String arrangements seem to loom in from nowhere like storm clouds and darken the atmosphere but the track stays relentless in its progression which really is quite difficult to explain as its just so intricate and ever changing. This one really does require multiple listens to infuse. Leviathan takes on the same kind of half time approach but is much less aggressive than its angry acquaintance. Here we have a warping sub bass that dominates proceedings practically from the off and is laced with industrial sounding effects and trademark ASC percussion, and again, progresses through sections of melody, atmosphere and pure madness in terms of arrangement.

NZ014X – Heavy 1 / Nymfo & Menace – Millers / Drunk Funk (Red Vinyl) – 12″ Vinyl
Black Vinyl. The Samurai Music Foreign Exchange Series returns for 2011 with one of the labels strongest releases to date. Heavy 1 from Tokyo represents Japan and is our first ever signing from the Samurais homeland. ‘Millers’ may be recognisable to many of you from its’s appearance on DJ Marky’s recent Fabric Live mix. This tunes distinctly quirky funk has been winning crowds over since it was first drawn and we are extremely proud to have it released on the Samurai label. Samurai fave Nymfo represents the Netherlands in a head to head drinking contest with Christchurch, New Zealands Menace. We are not sure who won the alcoholic battle but the colossal bassline that was created in the session delivers a funky bounce that is very infectious. DJ support from everyone that has been sent these tunes, look out for Foreign Exchange Part 4 featuring representatives from Russia and the UK.

AUDHOS001 – Dual Process – Drugs / Thugs – 12″ Vinyl
The production duo of Dual Process, AKA DJ Java and DJ Ben J, have been in the drum & bass scene since before it was being called “The drum & bass scene”. Initially as ravers, then DJs, and now as producers, they have been witness to the progression of the various sub genres that are now present in today’s spectrum of drum & bass music. After releases individually and collectively on several different labels Dual Process are ready to launch their own label aimed at the particular sub genre that they have successfully played in raves, clubs and on radio for the last few years. Straight up, dance floor, jump up is what’s going to be on offer from Audio Hostage Records, and to kick things off we have two heavy slices of face churning, bass ridden, ignorance capable of setting MC’s to self destruct and levelling any sound system. The A. side DRUGS is inspired by the Essex gangster scene that emerged around the early days of rave music. The eerie bleeped out intro soon leads on to brain twisting pulsation of gurgling, stuttering basslines and, for just a few bars, some dubstep breaks to make sure the substance takes hold. Remember, too much of a good thing can be dangerous. The AA. side THUGS is a little more funky but still with a hard edge. Drawing on influences from gangster rap, the bouncy bassline and bongos are backed up with police sirens, gunshots and sporadic hip hop lyrics. Something for the thugs to bounce to but still heavy enough to test any system. Both tracks ore getting heavy support from a range of DJs and radio stations such as, Hype, Crissy Criss, Taxman, Nicky Black Market, Brockie, SS, Jack Frost, Ash Attack, Hoodlum, Logan D, Profile, Pappa G, Vital Elements, Spice, Origin FM and Kool FM.

SUICIDE057 – Nymfo – Double Dutch E.P. – 12″ Vinyl x 2
Hailing from Amsterdam, Nymfo, aka Bardo Camp has been a lynchpin in the dutch drum and bass scene for over a decade including best dutch d&b DJ in 2005. Previously having worked closely alongside Icicle, including their classic Ram release “Franky Mountain”, Bardo has released many solo and collaborative tunes on labels far and wide including, Dispatch, Critical, Ram, C.I.A. 31, Inneractive and Samurai. Through the years Nymfo has developed his own specific sound of characteristic hard driving bass, spanking funky drums and hooky motifs. It is an addictive and hypnotic sound suitable for just about any set , car drive or home listen. Think Icicle, Spectrasoul, Ulterior Motive, Jubei, Ed Rush & Optical but with more than enough of his own style to make Nymfo a standout in todays swamp of mediocre d&b.

REVREC022 – Enei & Eastcolors / EBK – Home / Hybrid – 12″ Vinyl
East meets West as Revolution returns for our 22nd release. In the red corner straight out of Russia we’re pleased to welcome Enei and Eastcolors to the Revolution army. These artists now need little introduction after massive singles on Hospital and Critical. ‘Home’ is one of those rare tracks that manages to combine the sublime with the grime. Full of influences from several corners of the musical spectrum, this is everything dnb should be about: originality, dancefloor effect & depth. Stepping up on the flip, enters London’s EBK. Another artist Revolution are very pleased to have on board their roster. His trademark razor sharp production skills are in full effect on ‘Hybrid’. A no holds barred track that hooks us in from the first few bars. Haunting atmospheres and a thunderous b-line set the tone, as a multitude of layers weave their way in and out of the mix.

NU12049 – Subterra – Gutter Mouth – 12″ Vinyl
As we build up a head of stream moving into the summer months, we turn our attentions firmly to the dance-floor with two bass-heavy hitters from Subterra. Those of you familiar with the Guildford residing DJ / Producer / promoter will already be well aware of his drum & bass pedigree. Clocking up releases on Ram’s subsidary label Frequency as well as Dispatch and Sudden Def Subterra has a staunch following that regularly attend his Rotation events across the south east of England. ‘Gutter Mouth’ is as dirty as the title suggests. Swirling pads and percussion build the suspense before an explosion of contorted bass sounds and snappy high end beats. ‘Cold Shoulder’ is a collaboration with long term DJ / production partner Bazil. With it’s warm atmospheric opening it creates a sinister mood before tearing into a stepping bass-heavy workout. DJ Support from Goldie, Jubei, Lenzman, SpectraSoul, London Elektricity & DLR & Octane.

COOH is a relatively new to the scene, but has so many hits on his name lately you would think he is one of the veterans. Can’t here any hard dnb dj play out without several COOH monsters in the set. SEZON Starts of the classic 4×4 hardcore gabber kick, soon filled with snares and even more bass! Bounce bounce bounce on this one! TERAN will gice you the creeps. The Hororesque intro falls into a screeching sound edited perfectly in the beat. Bats flying all over the cave. Top class production, and devastating on the dancefloor! Supported by everybody.

DJ Support: Rusko, Doctor P, Downlink, Datsik, Funtcase, Modestep, Mistajam, Rob Da Bank, Gilles Peterson, Cookie Monsta, Trolley Snatcha, SkisM. Bournemouth has become a hot-bed for new Dubstep talent; Funtcase, Trolley Snatcha, Inspector Dubplate, Marlow, And next to emerge are Genetix (aka Hoax & Tron) and Persist, two of the hottest names currently on the lips of the Dubstep nuskool. I Dare You: If you’ve been to any Dubstep rave over the past 6 months then you know this track. Warren G-funk crossed with Bootsy P-funk, this track sounds like George Clinton has travelled forward in time, to deliver one of the hottest dubplates in DJs boxes right now. This Sound: It seems hard to believe that an artist getting as much attention as Persist is yet to have a solo release. Well here it is, it’s not ‘This Sound’, it’s not even ‘This Sound 2010 supported by the best in the business. No Comply brings you ‘This Sound 2011′, fresher than a wet market Chicken. SAIGON005 – Milyoo – Kazaduon EP – 12″ Vinyl
Finish Copy Limited Edition vinyl pressing – With support from the likes of Laurent Garnier, Angel Molina, Karl Moestl, Bunzer0, Rob Booth, The Black Dog, James Mountain and more…. “Kentucky seems an unlikely place for bass music producers to be based, but with modern technology being what it is, geographical boundaries in music continue their slide into relative obsolescence. Having had his debut release featured in Boomkat’s top 100 singles of 2010, Milyoo has already been endorsed by Gilles Peterson and Mary Ann Hobbes, and judging by the quality of his latest work, the Kazaduon EP on Saigon, such hype is certainly justified. The title track is a melancholic yet strangely hopeful array of pop vocal samples, tearjerking keys and punchy drums. It’s slightly cheesy but enchantingly peculiar and one can’t help but be moved by the sheer amount of emotive musicality present. This musicality is led by the hand into more obscure territories in ‘Takedown’, with its broken beats, chordal pads, and simple melodies creating an ethereal soundscape punctuated by clever yet soulful drumwork. In the great tradition of keeping the truly weird stuff for the flip, the first b-side, ‘Box of Tapes’ unleashes an aural assault of acid infused dissociative chaos, which hangs on for dear life to a solid rhythm and chord motif. It’s delightfully disorganised and will have many listeners subconsciously calling for the outlawing of strict quantization to ensure music of this style is made more often. Closing track ‘Phonix’ is a little more restrained in its entropic aesthetic, but still keeps the beats wonky enough to be able to squeeze in some more ‘normal’ chord progressions without approaching over-sentimentality. Whether the track stands up on its own is perhaps up for debate, but it is a fitting end to a bizzarely brilliant release”. Words courtesy of: http://www.ibiza-voice.com/story/news/3133

New Bass Music Promos

MEDI043 – Pinch – Swish – 12″ Vinyl
Rob Ellis, AKA Pinch is the owner of one of the original and highly influential Dubstep labels Tectonic who have signed, developed and released music from some of the scene’s biggest acts such as Joker, 2562, Cyrus, Digital Mystikz, Skream, Jack Sparrow and of course Pinch. Pinch is also founder of Subloaded, Bristol’s finest Bass rave, who has recently celebrated their 6th Birthday. This is Pinch’s first release on Mala’s DEEP MEDi imprint and we feel it’s his best work to date, we’ll sure you’ll agree. ‘Swish’ has been played relentlessly by Mala over the last year as well as a select lucky few able to get their hands on it such as Skream, Loefah, Youngsta and V.I.V.E.K. ‘Swish’ is classic Pinch, dark, moody and sparse, heavily influenced by Techno, with a sub- bass and kick to destroy any bass bin, pure soundsystem music. ‘Tunnel Home’ on the flip sees Pinch in experimental mode switching up the tempo, 155. This still has the Pinch trademark darkness and efx’s but oozes a stealthily undercurrent and coldness with its complex drum programming and industrial approach, reminiscent of early Photek output.

GRIZZLY009 – Jay Weed – On The Nile – 12″ Vinyl
Sinden’s Grizzly label is back on Vinyl! Few do it quite like Jay Weed. Here’s what label boss Sinden has to say about it: I first caught wind of Jay’s stuff a year ago through Douster (who weighs in with a really cool egyptian banger on this EP). Impressed, we locked in the release. Leading track, On The Nile, operates on a grey area bass music tip that its really stripped back, funky and evocative. I love the Egyptian synth melodies in the breakdown reminding me of old Amstrad computer game, Oh Mummy or Egyptian lover meets the Cyber Pharoahs as Douster once said. I’ve had so many people ask me about this when I’ve played it out. The track really is a one of a kind, a real original – perfect Grizzly material. City Staccs is a great fit as the second track and much like On The Nile really hard to place. It’s just as rhythmical, but more stoned (weeded?), subtle with plenty of low end. I love both of these. Jay’s definitely a producer with his own sound!

CIV021 – Starkey – Space Traitor Volume 2 (4 track vinyl with a 13 track CD inc) – 12″ Vinyl
Philly producer Starkey forges ahead in the sonic space race with his new, sci-fi inspired EP. Space Traitor Vol 2 is the sequel to 2010’s Vol 1 and looks certain to further cement Starkey as one of the most forward-thinking artists in post-dubstep, bass-driven music. Space Traitor Vol 2 is comprised of six new tracks of angular, robo-funk futurism. The EP opens with intergalactic love song Lost In Space on which Starkey marries his own distorted, lovelorn vocals with those of 17 year old UK singer Charli XCX for a starry eyed duet. Cockroach – a rollercoaster ride of huge drums and hymn-like vocals – precedes the EPs two grittiest, hardest hitting offerings: the blazing Sunlight – an industrial strength blend of rave-tinged percussion, speaker-troubling basslines and surging synths – and the dizzying, hypnotic Street Rockers. Bricks sees Starkey teaming up with rapper and fellow Philadelphian Curly Castro ahead of the soundtrack-like, ambient finale, Craters. The EP’s comes with the second chapter of Space Traitor, a short spoken-word story written by Starkey, and six remixes by Innerpartysystem, Om Unit, Darling Farah, Distal, Monky and The Elementz. Born Paul J. Geissinger, and known to friends as PJ, Starkey’s ongoing mission to chart the outer reaches of the sonic universe has so far included; studio sessions with Tinie Tempah, producing Maverick Sabre’s Run To The Roof, helming the Daily Dose Of Dubstep slot on MistaJam’s 1xtra show for two months, and his acclaimed albums Ephemeral Exhibits and Ear Drums And Black Holes. Whilst the most obvious bracket for his output is the burgeoning British post-dubstep/bass music scene, Starkey lives just outside of Philadelphia. This geographical anomaly coupled with the emotion and depth of his painstakingly constructed arrangements helps explain his unique, always-fresh output.

SR009 – Crissy Criss – Line Of Fire – 12″ Vinyl
Former enfant terrible of the bass music world, Kiss FM’s Crissy Criss landed a radio show on London’s Kool FM at the age of just 11 in 1998, and is now firmly established himself as one of drum and bass and dubstep’s biggest heroes while still in his early 20s. His new badboy brace for Sludge sees him take it to the next level with a double-header of monster low-end, powerful hooks and cool dubwise atmospherics. Line of Sight drops ravey synths and ragga vocal snatches over jaw-dropping, gut-churning bass, while Murder Tune recalls early Prodigy with its heavy attitude, lush pads and phenomenal dancefloor power. These two tracks have already been blowing up the scene on dubplate, and now they’re ready to set fire to the nearest party. Just press play and watch the crowd reach for the lazers.

Von D “Daydreaming” LP [Boka Records]

Von D “Daydreaming” LP [Boka Records]

Posted 27 May 2011 | By | Categories: news, tracks | No Comments

‘Daydreaming’ is the debut album release from Paris based artist Von D on Boka Records. A fusion chef of bassweight, Von D has deftly sliced into unpredictable genres, concocting strange and beautiful new forms. The album sees Von D collaborating with the internationally renowned Foreign Beggars, Phephe, David Boomah (vocalist for Shy FX Murderation), Riya & Mr Lager, while his previous work has also been remixed by a host of respected dubstep DJ’s including Skream and Tes La Rok.

Born into the cultural melting pot of the Paris suburbs, Von D found his soul’s conduit in a beaten up old drum kit. Whilst the riddims of King Tubby alongside the foetal jungle of Photek and Serge Gainsborg were initial inspirations, after forging a successful path as a sound engineer Von D honed his sound sculpting skills to a razor sharp edge.

Von D

Von D’s productions have been picked up by Skream, arguably one of dubstep’s most successful artists, who snapped up a release for his label Disfigured Dubs. DJ Chef released Von D’s ‘Show Me’ on his Sub Freq imprint, which quickly became one of the most talked about releases of 2009 – so much so that three time DMC World Champion DJ Craze has been supporting the track in recent mixes.

Not one to be complacent, Von D’s kept up the pressure with releases on Black Acre, Tempa, Soul Jazz and Argon – enough to attract the attention of BBC Radio 1’s Gilles Peterson who has included a track for his hotly anticipated ‘Brownswood Bubblers’ compilation album.

Von D has created a global buzz with his numerous explosive live performances featuring unreleased and exciting material from himself as well as other established producers. Having had a host of successful tours in the United States, Europe and China, Von D has now set his sights on touring New Zealand and Australia.

The AA sees LA based producer Gridlok ( Project51/ Violence/RAM) team up with UKs own Skitty (Metalheadz/Foundation x) to make a track with more than equal power to the A Side.

DSM018 – Anile – Last March EP – 12″ Vinyl
Anile, DSM’s baby-faced assassin, steps up to deliver the second artist EP on the label, and one of the most talked about releases of the second half of 2010. Climbing steadily through the ranks with releases on Loxy’s Cylon imprint and the seminal Renegade Hardware label, DSM is proud to have one of the brightest production talents currently operating in drum & bass on its roster. This EP takes DSM further into the darker territory it started exploring with DSM014 & 016 and it does not disappoint. The title track of this EP is the bouncy stepper ‘Last March’. A snarling, distorted bassline has meant that this tune has found favour with numerous a-listers in recent times and is a worthy tune for the EP to be named after. On the flip, is the ferocious ‘Disaffected’. Eeerie pads and atmospheres make way for a driving drum loop and sub bass before all hell breaks loose at the drop with one of the nastiest, most twisted reese basslines heard for a very long time. The influence of labels such as the aforementioned Renegade Hardware is obvious, and it is one of, if not the, most ferocious and devastating slice of d&b ever to grace DSM.

FCR003EP – Paper Crows – Fingertips (Break Remix) / Follow The Leader E.P. – 12″ Vinyl
‘Follow The Leader’/’Fingertips’ is the second release from rising stars Paper Crows, who’ve already caught the attention of tastemakers across the blogosphere, print and radio. Follow The Leader’ is a brilliantly, dark, unsettling, underground track that comes with a top drawer remix package. Hotly tipped newcomers Megabits deliver an insanely unique widescreen drum & bass/breaks/electro hybrid, while the legend that is Break delivers another stunning drum & bass remix. ‘Fingertips’ is quite simply a stunning song oozing with wild atmospheric beauty. It has aptly been described as “the marching of dreams on a star studded night” and is already being championed by Radio 1’s Nick Grimshaw. Paper Crows have been wowing audiences with their live shows with sultry singer Emma Panas mesmerising with her spectral vocals and dramatic stage presence. With still less than a dozen gigs under their belt, they’ve already supported the likes of Jamie Woon and Clock Opera. Their next show is at the Barfly in Camden on the 4th February. They’ll be playing alongside Anna Calvi and Sparrow & The Workshop as part of HMV’s Next Big Thing festival. The pair are currently in the studio recording their debut album.

AT010 – Survival, Octane & DLR – Afterglow / Spectrum – 12″ Vinyl
After the storming success of “Grahams Tunnel” and “Bullet” from Survival and Silent Witness. Audio tactics kick off 2011 with quality collaboration with this year’s hottest duo DLR & Octane. MODULE006 – Vicious Circle & Jubei – Deliberate – 10″ Vinyl
Moving on from the last heavy hitting Modulations release and we’re treated to an even more sturdy effort from two names that need no introduction. A bit of a dream collaboration between Vicious Circle and Metalheadz man Jubei, and where better place to serve it up than from Critical’s Modulations imprint. ‘Cloak & Dagger’ wastes no time and kicks off with a solid stepping break as eerie space warped pads wrap around to suck us deep into the wormhole. Heinous bass slams on this sound system killer, perfect for some late night 3am entertaining and leaves us in no doubt of a properly undiluted low-slung king of the rollers. Nasty, naughty but nice. Sliding perfectly into the second slab and ‘Deliberate’ continues much in the same vein but it manages to up the ante with some even more sickening bassline action. Running percussion increases the pace whilst the bass stabs take it up another notch for a heads down, no nonsense slice of D&B goodness. Never fails. DJ support from Alix Perez, Rockwell, Lenzman, Kasra, D Bridge and more.

H-LINE26 – Paul Blackout – Curse On One Self / All You MFs – 12″ Vinyl
Hardline boss Paulblackout returns with two heavy dnb/hardcore crossover tracks, to follow on from the broken, deep beats of the previous Leepshec release. “Curse on one self” features tough sounding vampire samples and builds up to a crazy drop which will have you throwing shapes and playing air drums like a madman (or woman) On the flip is “all you MFs” which makes use of an amusing cartoon sample and stomps along to a halftime breakdown with double kickdrums to activate fist pumping mode. Vinyl release also includes an evil illustration by Camila Carmody, with DJ support from DJ Hidden, DJ Producer, Simon Underground, Mark N and more. This is how we’re kickin it…..

SS015 – Thought – Resist / Holism – 12″ Vinyl
Soothsayer returns with its twentieth vinyl plate and proudly presents the addition of SS015 and artist Thought to the roster. Hailing from Sofia, Bulgaria Ivan Sotirov (Thought) has quickly built a reputation for employing the hardest beats to be had in Eastern Europe. Having played Therapy Sessions and released a 12″ on the famed UK label, Obscene, Thought rise to prominence continues with his Soothsayer debut – a slab of heavy tribal breaks and halfstep riddims dubbed up plenty of dark bass. Resist is a dark tribal affair with grinding mid rage bass and intricate percussion. Stylistically the tune yields the best elements of a steppa, a roller, and a stormer all meld together in a tightly weld concoction of brutality. Bludgeoning beats and corrosive bass for the dubwize massive and rivetheads alike. Holism is a sinister tribal half steppa that has previously been slated for release by Loxy and Tech Itch. We at Soothsayer were elated to acquire Holism to complete this epic double a sided offering. Pumping sub bass pads, mid range dirt, and tribal dub manoeuvres govern this track. Robust enough to appeal to junglists and dubsteppers alike, Holism is a blazing wedge of outright aural wretchedness.

HBR002 – Optimum – Light Year / DS-10 – 12″ Vinyl
Hum + Buzz return with their first release of 2011 from label co-founder Optimum. After releasing his debut EP ‘Max Power’ for Planet Mu in 2010, contributing to the excellent Night Slugs Allstars Vol. 1 and Modeselektion Vol. 1 compilations, Optimum returns on Hum + Buzz with two sci-fi, dancefloor tracks. ‘Light Year’ is a 4X4 time travelling excursion through brass rhythms, dotted arpeggios and razor sharp percussion. Gangsta techno meets UK bass, a crossover that Optimum seems to be making his own. On the B side ‘DS10’, named after (and partly made on) the Korg software for the Nintendo DS, is a menacing march that progresses into the unknown. All superfluous elements are discarded; the track focuses squarely on the relentless bassline and unpredictable 808 drum pattern. With these minimal ingredients combined, DS10 is a certified sound system bomb!

OSMUK012 – DJ Madd – Pitch Black / New Reality – 12″ Vinyl
DJ Madd has been killing it recently. It’s another knee-slapping combination drenched in powerful vibes and both tunes are nasty, guttural affairs sure to make your eyeballs rattle. The sound of the release as whole is a little reminiscent of Distance, with crunchy basslines rasping and snarling like enraged wolves savaging a couple of fwuffy wittle bunnies. TEC048 – Pinch & Loefah / Pinch & Roska – Broken / Paranormal Activity – 12″ Vinyl
With only one collaboration (alongside fellow DMZ stalwart SGT Pokes under the name ASBO, also for Tectonic) seeing light of day in the last three and a half years, it really has been a long time since dubstep pioneer and producer extraordinaire Loefah ventured out on wax. Responsible for originating the half-step beat in dubstep that came to dominate so much of the scene – with groundbreaking early titles such as ‘Horror Show’, ‘System’ and ‘Ruffige’ – Loefah’s beats always had huge impact on the dancefloor as well as in the studios of other beat-makers, caught by the power of his sound. More recently he’s become predominately focused on his genre challenging DJ sets as well as running his hugely successful Swamp 81 imprint, so this rare studio excursion with Tectonic label boss Pinch is a treat for all to behold. ’Broken’ starts with a single delaying hat splash as swirling white noise rises from beneath with gale force strength. This relatively gentle moment is soon disturbed by the menacing sound of a tearing bass hit – a twisted sound layered in weighted sub power. Tense pads with distorted edges add to the build before everything pulls out to silence allowing a perfectly timed drop. In comes the full weight of bass as a pounding 808-style rhythm drops – complete with head cracking snares and swung hats – as the main bass sound punches through, ‘Broken’ embarks on a master class in minimal effectiveness. An unmissable collaborative effort between two studio heavyweights, and just how dubstep is meant to sound. Flip for an equally exciting joint effort from Pinch and rising UK Funky and Rinse FM star Roska. Nomi-nated by DJ Mag for the prized title of Producer Of The Year in 2010, Roska is known more for his 130bpm funky productions but this collaboration takes the tempo up to 140bpm for an exercise in rhyth-mical maximality – a frantic but rolling conga workout session. Meticulous drum programming is layered with dark reverbed sonics, spooky pads and a gut wrenching sub bass line guaranteed to cause stomach upset on the right systems. ‘Paranormal Activity’ will summon the ancient spirits so be careful where you drop it. All told, this plate is an essential purchase for true fans of the original dubstep vibe.

TEC049 – Addison Groove – This Is It / Make Um Bounce – 12″ Vinyl
Massive new Tectonic 12″ from man of the moment – Bristol’s very own Addison Groove. Tony Williams aka Addison Groove appeared last year with the anthem ‘Foot Crab’ on Loefah’s impeccable Swamp 81 imprint. Anyone who has been to a dubstep dance in the last year will have likely heard the original or one of many VIP mixes and re-edits of this infectious monster of a tune – or at least seen it listed on count-less end of year ‘best of’ lists and DJ charts more recently. Taking in elements of the Chicago Juke/Footwork scene and bringing in a knowledge of bass heavy dub-step production (as acquired during his former incarnation as Headhunter), Addison Groove has already made a huge, rippling impression on dance music across the world. The world has been holding tight for more Addison Groove ever since, and hot on the tails of a recent fol-low up on Swamp 81 is this excellent 12″ for Tectonic, featuring some of his best work yet. ‘This Is It’ is a bubbly 138bpm dance floor banger, laden with pounding sub-heavy 808 kicks and soul-scraping claps, blending bass science with original Chicago attitude in a way that only Addison Groove can do. The whole rhythm is lifted by rave-flavoured bleeps and blips chiming out in a melodic progression as vocal samples sound out on top. Absolutely enormous tune! Flip for the slower tempo, yet just as danceable ‘Make Um Bounce’. Hitting in at 133bpm, this 4/4 rhythm is getting hammered by everyone from Jackmaster to James Zabeila and as soon as you hear the first kick drum hit, you’ll know why! Very aptly titled, this tune WILL make you bounce! Bass heavy and full of booty bouncing badness!

ZIQ293 – Chrissy Murderbot – Bussin Down EP – 12″ Vinyl
‘Bussin Down’ is the first Planet Mu single from Chrissy Murderbot, who comes with a style inspired by his chosen city of Chicago’s Juke and Footwork scenes. He playfully mixes in elements of other styles of music he loves, such as R’n'B and Dancehall, to create lively mutations with a warm hearted mass appeal that comfortably straddles genres. ’Bussin Down’ features Chicago footwork supremo DJ Spinn over some tasty footwork tracks featuring Spinn’s instructional lyrics, over some high speed jazz funk and cracking claps and klaviers. Next track ‘Braaain’ is a unique amalgam of footwork with the classic early digital sleng teng bassline. The blend works fantastically, as Chrissy slides the originals vocal in and out of the mix in a dub style. On the B-side Atki2 takes album track ‘The Vibe Is So Right’ featuring vocals from MC Zulu and runs it through a lush treatment that mixes Detroit washes with tight, laidback, rolling funky house drums, to instant classic effect. On B2, Chicago footwork pioneers DJs Rashad and Spinn send the originals vocal into a whirl of complex delays and layered loops over cold drums and hard techno stabs. Just the faintest taste of what is In store on The M-Bot’s incredible ‘Women’s Studies’ album due soon on Planet Mu.

BR006 – Swindle – Mood Swings EP – 12″ Vinyl
Croydon’s own Swindle gets 2011 off to a great start with his first release on the grime label of the mo-ment, Butterz. The funk-obsessed producer delivers an exercise in dark half-step on the title tune ‘Mood Swings’ with all the funky riffs and synths that fans of ‘Airmiles’ have grown to love since he debuted with that track on Planet Mu. ’Bebop’ is a more light-hearted affair with chopped-up vocoder vocal samples coupled with subtle piano keys fading in and out between the up-tempo beat pattern. ’Trending Topic’ is one for lovers of Starkey and Terror Danjah alike, as it combines the organic energy of grime with the quirkiness of Swindle’s funk influenced synth patterns. Having already gained support from Starkey, Alexander Nut, Scratcha DVA and DJ Q, the ‘Mood Swings EP’ is shaping up to be yet another instant classic from Swindle and the Butterz label.

HDR003 – P-Jam – Anger Management EP – 12″ Vinyl
Grime has been clawing its way back to the centre of underground UK music in a big way recently, riding a new wave of credibility in futurist iterations from Terror Danjah, Hyperdub, and Butterz. But with the rising profile of figures like Slackk and the eski-aping sound of Becoming Real and sometimes Jam City, there’s been a pseudo-lionization and a growing mythology surrounding classic grime. Honestly, it’s been a long time coming; the music is legendary for a reason. Terror Danjah’s new(ish) Hardrive label takes a bold step in 2011 with a sharp look back-ward, and in typically cyclical fashion it feels perfectly now. Dating all the way back to 2004, P Jam’s ‘Anger Management’ is a minimal monster of a tune, slamming with the same slurred and blurred percussive elements of Wiley’s essential ‘Ice Rink’. But it’s the oddly distant, echoed vo-cal grunts and dirty (grimy?) morphing bassline that really push it into the ‘classic’ category. ‘Anger Management’ simply sounds rough, dirty, and raw, like it could barely be rendered by whatever archaic software produced those sounds. ‘Samba’ is from around the same time, and it shares in the same cheap, dulled aesthetic, built out of synth guitar and screeching tires, heavy on the bongos to boot. But you can’t accuse Terror of living in the past, as he rounds out his label’s third release with a brand new track from the veteran producer. Comparatively lush, ‘Sorefoot’ is heavy on the synth sounds, the careful percussion relegated to nudging the track along instead of dominating. It’s fascinating to hear P Jam dress up his classic-leaning sound in shiny new clothes, and heartening that even after all these years he’s evidently still going strong. Even as grime gathers together a promising wave of new producers, there’s life left in its progenitors, and Hardrive

3024012 – Addison Groove – It’s Got Me / Minutes Of Funk – 12″ Vinyl
In which 3024′s West Country takeover continues unabated with Addison Groove as one of 2010′s most celebrated Producers fires off a pair of brand new exclusives. ‘It’s Got Me’ drags a cornerstone of classic hip hop into the 21st century with trademark spasmodic Chicago drum acrobatics and vocal splicing working the track into a frenzy while his less acknowledged way with gauzy analogue textures never allow things to slip into the trap of dance floor bludgeon. Minutes Of Funk dials back the ferocity just enough to open up extra space for more luxurious synth washes and increasingly intricate rhythmic shifts as interlocking traces of dance floor past combine to form the thinking mans set opener.

HENCH026 – Lost Ft. Beezy – Snake Eyes / Escape From The Womb – 12″ Vinyl
Lost has come a long way since he took the first steps on his journey into music. As a 12-year old, Lost found ‘Big Apple Records’ in Croydon and embarked upon becoming a DJ. Now a fully-fledged member of H.E.N.C.H, this prodigy has been responsible for some of the most sub shaking releases to have been let forth from the Bristol label’s catalogue to date. A: Snake Eyes (Ft. Beezy) – Lost teams up with Hench’s new signing Beezy. For those that know, you can bet that any track with Beezy’s name on is going to be sordidly sinister. And ‘Snake Eyes’ is no exception. The track commences with an industrial and hazardous sounding scene that’s soon met with Beezy’s catchy hook. Things are teed-up fittingly for a creeping baseline that weaves amongst the dripping backdrop. Before the low-end truly takes you somewhere else, Beezy rejoins with an ever-ominous lyrical gesture to seal the dread-inducing vibe that Lost has created with this charismatic production. AA: Escape from the Womb – In all of Lost’s productions, he’s enigmatic in creating a feeling with his tracks from the get-go. What seems like a calm and atmospheric intro quickly thrusts you toward something you’d be forgiven for not expecting. When that high-voltage bass rhythm gets your attention, sit back, you’re in for the ride. Metallic overtones and pulsating groove make ‘Escape from the Womb’ a genuinely progressive number. This was built to tear dance floors to the ground and has already been doing some serious damage.

New D&B CD

SOULR050 – Marcus Intalex – 21 – CD x 2
The album features all colours and textures of the electronic sphere, from the bright, florescent metallics of ‘Celestial Navigation’ (feat S.P.Y.) through to the darker tinges of the sharp‐edged, sparse landscape of ‘Hot Hands.’ His D&B mastery is constant throughout on ‘Make A Raise’ (with the vocals of reggae legend Ras Tweed), D&B gets a slightly more menacing dub makeover, while ‘Paulista’ holds the layered, tightly produced drum programming that Intalex is known for, and ‘Meltdown’ is a typically immaculate, deep roller that stems from collaborating with Calibre. Yet elegant productions like ‘Dusk’ show his ability to create spacious downtempo sound worlds. The acid ‐drenched ‘TB or Not TB’ is filled with analogue 303 stabs that give a nod back to his first love: the early sounds of Chicago and Detroit in the late 80s. The album shifts between moods and character with each distinctive track, especially on his collaborations with equally charisma producers like the bright, uplifting zig zags of ‘Strangeways’ with Zed Bias, or the full sheets of bass on his moody collaboration with Nonplus+ vocalist Riya, ‘Regrets.’ The album’s standout is the beautifully emotive ‘Climbing Up The Walls, which features the vocals of Drum & Bass producer Danny Fierce, and stands as a breathtaking, adventurous take on Radiohead. These tracks are currently being championed by the main beat seekers of the global bass music, such as Radio 1′s Fabio & Grooverider, & Benji B, plus DJ’s Alexander Nut, Ben UFO, Loefah, Martyn, Scuba, Oneman and 2562.

SOMCD002 – State of Mind – Nil by Ear – CD
Nil by Ear is Sate of Mind’s third studio album, the first two being Take Control (Uprising) & Faster than Light (SOM). This album represents the peak so far of the lads technical skills, its carefully produced from start to finish. Tracks are frequently tied together, and a lot of thought has gone into the flow of the album. This is one that can be listened too from beginning to end, as opposed to a collection of singles. However that doesn’t mean that State of Mind have forgotten about the 3am raver. Almost all of the tracks have all been smashing it up world wide over the last 6 months in their own right. Collaboration wise, the album features several of NZ’s most talented vocalists including Shapeshifter’s P.Digsss, Thomas Oliver, Sacha Vee, Mc Woody & PNC, as well as American singer 3pm. The only production collaborators are Nymfo and DNME. Several other collaborations were planned for the LP, but in the end were unable to fit.  These will be released as bonus tracks. There will be strictly limited number of CD/EP shrink-wrap bundles, and a follow up EP including some remixes and some more album cuts. Check out youtube.com/stateofmindnz for videos, trailers, and generally interesting stuff.

DETAIL005 – Lynx & Hellrazor / Lynx Ft. Spikey Tee – Dirty Red / 5am Soul City – 12″ Vinyl
Detail 005 is the next single from label boss Lynx. Dirty Red is a bit of a monster and has been getting huge support from Marky, Marcus Intalex, Nu:Tone Bailey and Shy FX. The intro builds with sci fi strings that progress like a train hurtling down the tracks out of control. It reaches a crescendo with the sound of squealing brakes and drops into a menacing talk box bassline and Lynx’s sharp 2 step beats. 5.a.m Soul City is a collaboration between Lynx and London born, Sydney based soul vocalist, Spikey Tee. The track has the vibe of walking through the backstreets of a city in the early hours of the morning. Subdued chords, scattered pianos and rustles of the streets and distant cars litter this liquid vocal track.

DIS043 – Cern & Dabs / Dabs & Safire – Oh The Horror / Back & Forth – 12″ Vinyl
Dispatch are chuffed to present a truly international 12″ with 3 producers cross-collaborating worldwide to present this powerful bass heavy release. We start on the A-side with arguably New Zealand’s finest export Cern collaborating with wonder kid Dabs hailing from Italy, they both provide some real dance floor power in the form of “Oh the Horror”. Dabs then works his way back over to the other side of the globe Australia bound to work alongside rising talent Safire! They both bring us a modern day roll-out “Back and Forth” on the flip… To make this story even more hard to explain the 2 tracks ended up on a UK based label however as far as we saw it the instant we heard these 2 tracks we had to make sure Dispatch would become their home. Huge support from the likes of Rockwell (both tracks featured on Shogun Ministry radio show), AI, Ant TC1, Spectrasoul (Shogun Ministry radio show), Dose, Octane & DLR, Survival, BTK, Doc Scott, Kasra, Judda, Nymfo, Teebee and more.

SOULR049 – Marcus Intalex – 21 [Vinyl Edition] – 12″ Vinyl x 3
The Vinyl version features six D&B tracks on 3×12” Vinyl. From the bright, florescent metallics of ‘Celestial Navigation,’(feat S.P.Y.) through to the darker tinges of the sharp-edged, sparse landscape of ‘Hot Hands.’ D&B gets a slightly more menacing dub makeover, while ‘Paulista’ (feat S.P.Y.) & ‘Wacky Races’ both hold the layered, tightly produced drum programming that Intalex is known for. ‘Meltdown’ is a typically immaculate, roller that stems from collaborating with Calibre. The album’s standout is the beautifully emotive ‘Climbing Up The Walls, which features the vocals of Drum & Bass producer Danny Fierce, and stands as a breathtaking, adventurous take on Radiohead. These tracks are currently being championed by the main beat seekers of D&B such as Radio 1′s Fabio & Grooverider, Hype, Friction, Tony Coleman, Nu Tone. Ant TC1, Andy C.

DISLPLTD001 – Skeptical & MC Fokus / Ant TC1 – Structure / Mode Destruction – 10″ Vinyl
The A side of this release features a track from the CD & MP3 release of the Dispatch ‘Transit One’ album – Skeptical & MC Fokus’s “Structure”; this is a track we received many emails and messages from quite simply asking “why is this not on vinyl” (along with other album tracks being referenced that did not appear as part of the vinyl package), the volume of differing requests led us to decide quite simply to put it to the vote and along with some help from K-Mag, Soundcloud and a mass of public votes here is the winning result pressed on to the a-side of this limited 10″ vinyl. On the flip we’ve got something completely fresh from label man Ant TC1 in the shape of the track “Mode Destruction” which is best explained as minimal but devastating when played loud! Enjoy.

ADRS004 – Sensa & Haste – The Place / Don’t Forget – 12″ Vinyl
This is quite possibly Audio Danger Records biggest release to date. It features up and coming artists Sensa & Haste (AKA HYBRID MINDS). Sensa has been bubbling under the surface for sometime now and it was only a matter of time before he would be releasing tracks for Audio Danger Records. His skill, along with Haste’s passion for the music shows the pairs diversity in this formidable release. Audio Danger Records are proud to have this pairing on board. The Place oozes with originality and uses simplistic beats and rhythms to create a wonderful abstract piece of Drum and Bass. This track could be played in most sets as it has mass crossover appeal and the concept flows seamlessly throughout. Sensa & Haste (AKA HYBRID MINDS) have truly brought something new to the table. Don’t Forget is a punchy bass-line roller. It uses the straight beats of much of today’s dance floor tracks with a sick bass line that is sure to get any dance floor moving. The groove in this track is what sets it apart from other tracks in its sub genre. The tune is a must for all and Sensa has truly shown his skill in this rolling bass heavy track. Support from UKF, Netsky, Camo & Krooked, Crissy Criss (BBC 1xtra), Utah Jazz, Zen, Savage Rehab, The Risky (DnBArena Podcast), Stanza and many more.

SUBTLE005EP – Nebula – Astral Soul EP – 12″ Vinyl x 2
Despite the fact that he hadn’t even reached his teenage years around the time of Jungle’s hey-day in the mid nineties, that’s the sound that still influences Nebula (aka Peter Saunders) the most to this day. The “Astral Soul” EP focusses on the atmospheric and meditiative side of Nebula’s production but the breakbeat manipulation and rumbling bass people best know him for are still to the fore. Rough and smooth, ethereal and brutal, fast and slow, the strength of this collection is in the finely balanced juxtapostion of these contrasting elements. While there there is a journey to be made within each track, there is another to be made in traversing the EP as a whole – you might just feel like you’ve reached some far away universe by the end ! Whether it’s the drifting atmosphere and acrobatic amens of “Encounters”, the lush pads and tough beats of “Warm Currents”, the glistening synths and crashing snare-step of “Astral Soul”, the machine-gun rhythms and strings of “Escapsim” or the trippy breakbeats leading you to the “Hidden Oasis”, this is an adventure where horizons are broadened and new discoveries made throughout.

NU12050 – Triad – Crooked – 12″ Vinyl
Normal service is resumed on Nu Directions, returning to 170BPM with an offering from some of the drum & bass scene’s most forward-thinking producers, Triad. Triad is the name given to german duo Henree and Basstikal. Both established producers in their own right, their meeting of minds has given their productions new depth and a totally original approach to drum & bass. Releases on DSM, Critical and Horizons, plus their excellent remix of Omar’s ‘Lay It Down’, have laid the foundations for what is to be a fruitful 2011 for this collaborative project. ‘Crooked’ is a shuffling minimal work-out which uses dense atmospheres and growling bass stabs to create a haunting mood, before breaking into it’s techno fuelled, energy soaked finale. ‘The Puzzle’ again captures Triad’s unique ability to create musical soundscapes. With light snappy beats and deep stirring synths creating a track that sounds as fresh today as it will in 10 years time, future music.

FOKUZLP007S1 – Donnie Dubson – Monday Is The New Sunday Album Sampler – 12″ Vinyl
This brandnew 12 inch is the sampler for the upcoming debut album called ‘Monday Is The New Sunday’, and is a good taster of what to expect! A – Rolling Roller: As the title suggests this is the roller in its purest form. Light stepping beats full of percussion and a solid deep subbass breathing on the background. Subtle edits, humming vocals and synths going from side to side to take you into a deep trance on the dancefloor. Rolling Roller is featured on Lenzmans Metalheadz podcast 24. B – Grey Jeans: Showing his funky side Donnie is a little hapier on this cut. The beat is heavier than the Rolling Roller, but the vibe is funky and warm. Most def a summer tune for the nicest time of the year! Sing along with the bassline, and make your head nodd.

New Bass Music CD

NONPLUSCD002 – LOL – Me Me – CD
LOL is a bit of an unusual project, it’s just a thing in it’s own right, it’s not ‘for’ anything or anyone in particular, it’s just an LP made by three bored people who like music that sounds like it did before the advent of the internet. The project was recorded in the bedroom of a warehouse conversion in Hackney Wick (bedrooms can be incredibly creative spaces, seeing as most of us were conceived in one) They wrote about self-obsession, social anxiety, drug abuse, and failed relationships using pre-21st century recording devices such as VHS tape, 70′s valve microphones, analogue synths, cheap Argos catalogue guitars, and 80′s drum machines. The resulting music was sent to a handful of people they thought were similarly musically inclined; people deeply into producer culture who never rabidly stuck to one way of doing things, in the hope that they might like it too. After a few positive responses, it was decided to keep the project close to where it was created and London based label Nonplus+ Records proudly put their name behind it. The name was chosen after a text conversation about potential band names – none of which sounded right – with the last suggestion being “Polterchrist?” which was replied to with a simple “lol”. lol sounded neat so that was it. They liked the fact that it used to be an abbreviation for ‘lots of love’ but now just means ‘laughing out loud’. It seemed to fit the cheap, cynical nature of what they’d written about… oh and it looks a bit like a person with their hands in the air.

New Bass Music releases

PPRO14VSY – Photek – 101 (Boddika Remix) / This City – 12″ Vinyl
Full colour sleeve pressed on 180 gram Vinyl. Regarded by many as the finest electronic producer of his generation, the mysterious LA-based Photek enjoyed considerable success throughout the 90’s and into the new millennium with his own mutant breed of jungle and drum’n’bass. After a four-year hiatus from releasing music (and just over ten years since his last LP ‘Solaris’), the legendary Photek is back with a new sound and brand new 4-track EP – an occasion definitely worth the wait. Never one to stand still, Photek’s enviable reputation has been built not just on his ability to inspire both his fans and peers over the years through his productions but also through his knack of reinventing his sound time and time again. With his early work (under a variety of aliases) proving hugely popular in clubs, it wasn’t until ’97 when he released his now-classic debut album ‘Modus Operandi’ that he truly arrived, defying both his existing fan base and the Jungle scene as he pioneered a new alternative to the big room rollers that defined the era at that time. Three years later he surprised again, embracing Chicago acid-house and techno for his second artist album ‘Solaris’ in 2000, working with the brilliant Robert Owens on the classic single ‘Mine To Give’. Further EP’s followed after the turn of the millennium, as well as a number of film score credits (including The Matrix), but in 2011 he has once again shifted the gears, re-inspired by UK bass music and the current crop of young producers – Photek has a new sound to share with the world. Multiple Radio Plays by: Benji B, Annie Mac, Rob Da Bank, Mistajam, Nick Grimshaw, Greenmoney, Jon Kennedy.

3024011 – Julio Bashmore – Batty Knee Dance / Ribble To Amazon – 12″ Vinyl
Two brand new tracks from Bristol’s emergent House prodigy. Batty Knee Dance brings ultra syncopated 808′s, neurotic synths and a mournful vocal refrain together in a tightly packaged low drag configuration. Ribble To Amazon maintains the levels of 808 astro physics but heads for the great outdoors with subtly staggered pads and an impossibly delicate Lepidopteran melody basking in a 16:9 sunset. Exclusive to the digital Grand National winds down with wistful synth trumpets and a rhythmic strut perfectly aligned with the greatest roller disco ever.

DP051 – Antiserum – Zephyr / Purple & Gold – 12″ Vinyl
San Francisco-based producer Antiserum steps up for Dub Police with two unique collaborations, featuring local producers Ill-Esha and 12th Planet respectively. His music is a masterfully crafted fusion of influences that results in a sound entirely his own, balancing light against dark and colour against pure bass pressure. Showcasing a deft musicality as well as an unrivalled talent for system shaking productions, Antiserum is taking the scene by storm. Releases on Narco.Hz, S.C.U.M and Argon amongst others have already propelled him to the forefront of the rapidly growing American dubstep scene, with plenty more still to come. On the A side, he is joined by Ill-Esha on ‘Zephyr’, a sick g-funk inflected roller. Skittering hi-hats and tough drums lay the foundations on this one, with the deep, smooth bass sweeping underneath. The vibrant synths weave in and out of each other with ease, swimming around the mix and swelling expansively through the speakers. On the flip he teams up with 12th Planet on the massive ‘Purple & Gold’. The g-funk influences continue to flow through this track, pinned down by a hard bassline and taut drums. The shimmering synths sliding over the top of the percussion and off into the atmosphere give the track an epic stop-in-your-tracks effect.

CIV019 – Om Unit – The Timps EP – 12″ Vinyl
Following his prized Joker rework, his inclusion on the hefty Fabric-curated ‘Elevator Music’ comp, his dope 7″ for the All City crew, and Corridor EP on Plastician’s Terrorhythm imprint – not to mention a slew of remixes – Om Unit joins the Civil Music stable alongside Starkey, Reso, dÉbruit, Drums of Death and Darling Farah. And yet again we see him pushing his sonic manifesto ever further. With years of working intently at the nexus of instrumental beats and electronic music, it’s time for The Timps EP. The Timps is Real Electro. Faceless, percussive, underground with a sci-fi feel. Dark, futuristic and dancefloor-oriented, punctuated with elements of 80’s Detroit Techno. Om Unit has blasted his sound into deep space, adding eerie electronic futurism to his niche blend of slow boogie, house, techno and hip-hop beats with those classic analogue synth lines. It nods to both the ever exciting and forever morphing instrumental beat scene and to the heavy flow of early pioneering Detroit techno via UR and the likes of Drexciya/Aux 88. The Timps sees Om Unit interfacing funk and futurism. Analogue bass lines are sequenced, arpeggiated and twisted to devastating effect. Synthetic riffs and atonal sound effects with heavy reverbs, delays and phasers drift along with eerie synthetic strings emphasizing the retro futuristic themes of the music. Remixes come from Frite Nites’ US beat maker and a one-to-watch in 2011, Salva, and Wagon Repair’s Hrdvsion aka Nathan Jonson who, along with brother, Matthew, is part of North American Techno’s first family. Salva’s rework of Prawn Cocktail pulses and throbs towards its intergalactic destination, with beats that speed along with accelerating urgency. Hrdvsion on the other hand takes The Timps and disconnects completely to float off alone into deep space with his epic, eerie and atomspheric reworking. This is Electro. Real Electro. Moody, minimal and 25 years on.

KOKESHI005 – Irrelevant ft. Brad Sucks – Better Off In Me (Original / Calibre Remix) – 12″ Vinyl
Limted white Vinyl pressing. Featured on the Kokeshi ((pod)) Kasts, Irrelevant’s ‘Better Off in Me’ has been one of the most asked about tracks featured on the label’s podcast series. A futuristic garage / dubstep / electronica /whatever tune with potential mainstream crossover, this is just a sample of what’s to come from Irrelevant’s debut LP coming out later this year. When thinking who best to remix a tune of this potential, Kokeshi thought only the king of melancholia himself, Calibre could suit such a touching track. The brief for Calibre was only to keep it at a similar BPM..and the result is a tune unlike anything Calibre has done before..with the 2-step Garage feel to it, its sure to be a hit on both the Radio and the Club circuit. DJ support from Appleblim, DJ Flight, Consequence, SP : MC, Dark Sky.

SOULR048 – Marcus Intalex – Dusk / TB or not TB? – 12″ Vinyl
Here are the 2 tracks from the 21 Album that are currently being championed by the beatseekers of the scene, such as Radio 1‘s Benji B and Eglo’s Alexander Nut, Swamp 81’s leader Loefah, 3024 boss MartynBen UFO, Scuba, Oneman and 2562. ‘Dusk’ shows Marcus’ ability to create spacious downtempo soundworlds, and the acid-drenched ‘TB or Not TB?’ is filled with analogue 303 stabs that give a nod back to his first love: the early sounds of Chicago and Detroit in the late 80s.

BRK018 – Aleks Zen – High Life / Pimp Shoes – 12″ Vinyl
For Berkane Sol 18 we present the vinyl debut of the hugely talented Aleks Zen. He calls his outfit ‘Neon Bounty’ and its easy to hear why. His brightly coloured music is like the soundtrack to a thrill seekers ride through the downtown areas of a tropical metropolis – sensuous but edgy, and properly booming on the right kind of car stereo. His riddims are propulsive and a joy to dance to, bringing together the best aspects of both house and dubstep. Melodically these tunes feel like the emotions of classic West Coast g-funk filtered through the mongrel mindset of the current UK bass music scene. Or as Aleks puts it himself – “I’ve been on hip-hop, grime, house and dubstep, now I’m trying to to create my own musical paradigm that still relates to people’s earthly emotions”. Pimp Shoes is maybe the best example of this – sometimes it feels just like an upbeat oldskool computer game theme, but then it evolves through some highly accomplished and unexpected key changes that put it in a whole new category.

CHST011 – Distance – Falling Ft. Alys Be – 12″ Vinyl
Chestplate a label set up with the intention of showcasing the freshest of Distance’s own productions which have been destroying dances and flooring radio listeners ever since. After just a handful of releases it is already established as one of the increasingly few, ‘buy-on-sight’ dubstep labels. Highlights of his production repertoire include ‘V’; a track as heavy as 100 ten tonne trucks that pounds and stomps, crunches and growls. Now for number 11 another Distance classic, ‘Feel Me’, oozes something far less overtly aggressive; all motorik hypnotik groove and ring modulated synth squeel. For the heads don’t sleep on the evil Malice on the flip. Distance’s studio has spawned multiple stone cold killers over a range of styles but all uniquely Distance, highlighting why his new releases are some of the most highly anticipated in the scene.

CRIT052 – Enei, Eastcolors & Noel – Cracker / Danger Dance – 12″ Vinyl
Critical Music marches forward, tapping into yet more new talent for 2011 resulting in an absolutely filthy D&B excursion that has had the likes of Andy C going ballistic for it. Hailing from Russia, Enei, who has already bagged himself an exclusive album deal with Critical, Eastcolors and Noel may be familiar with a few but with this release they look set to cement themselves in the collective consciousness of drum & bass aficionados the world over. ‘Cracker’ is rough, rugged and very, very raw. Ultra-tech D&B could be the term to use as the trio of producers come together to deliver what could possibly even be one of Critical’s biggest releases to date. Full of sick mid-ranges, snapping drums and sneaking subs, this one is cold, dry and full of funk that’ll have people full-on skanking around clubs until the early hours. Absolute gold. Enei then goes it alone on the more experimental ‘Danger Dance’, that intros with a sparse arrangement of stalking pads and fx that set the mood of unrest. In bounces a low-slung bass and it’s away we go on this gorgeously glitchy, 808-laden ride that sits perfectly alongside the likes of Rockwell and indeed Critical. DJ support from Andy C, Alix Perez, Friction, Icicle, Cyantific, Nu:tone, Logistics, Rockwell, Lenzman, Hype, Jubei, Ulterior Motive and more.

SYNDROME017 – Billain – Probes / Horus 8 – 12″ Vinyl
Just imagine if you could take cells from any producer in the world and mix them up to create your own super producer who whould it be? Well if by any chance the combo you want would look something like, Spor, Phace, Noisia, Mayhem with a dash of Misanthrop then you’re in luck.. Cause that super producer is Billain. Hear his Vinyl debut here on Syndrome Audio with the astonishing tracks Probes & Horus 8. Probes sounds like a mutant cyborg that’s reprogramming your brain with its razor sharp beats and unpredictable mid range. If you listen to this big time production when you know why we call him the super producer. Inspired by the greats of twisted funk and now ready to compete in the big game that is DnB. Horus 8 is trash in every sense of the word. Dirty festering bass lines roam around this track like buzzards circling a dead pray.. They wait until you can’t anymore and then strike to deliver the final blow.. Billain is a deadly producer you should keep your eyes on.. If you can’t hear it in this release then this kind of dnb just isn’t for you.

New D&B Promos

CRIT053 – Seba & Paradox Ft. Kirsty Hawkshaw – The Light / As If – 12″ Vinyl
As we approach spring, the seasonal turn brings with it an uplifting release set to be essential listening for all the eardrums still recovering from the dance-floor damage committed in the darker months. This release hails from Seba and Paradox, no strangers to the d&b circuit, as Critical Music outputs two stunning tracks prepping us for the warm sun-shining days to soon come. Courtesy of Kirsty Hawkshaw, ‘The Light’s beautiful vocals soothe away those frostbitten blues from former months; they swathe around blissful old-school piano keys, breaking through layers and rising over irresistibly smooth drum patterns. A deep bass-line unexpectedly makes an appearance, underlining the evocative summertime goodness – with this aurally euphoric track you can almost taste the blue skies. Seba and Paradox dig deep underground and unleash the dirt on the flip with a jungle-tech tour de force in the shape of ‘As If’. An ominous intro erupts into coarse drum patterns, enveloped by dirty bass that’s just downright mean. A straight-up dance-floor box-ticker, this is a track of volcanic proportions. Beware the explosion!

DVA007 – GuGu / Scratcha DVA – The Afro Cuban EP – 12″ Vinyl
The seventh release on DVA records comes from a young, unknown resident of Manchester named GuGu. Staying true to the DVA style, his two tracks are fine examples of todays hybrid Funky House scene, maintaing the 4 to the floor drum patterns whilst drawing on a wide range influences… and as it suggests in the EP’s title, is packed full of Cuban flava. Straight up music designed to make people dance. It wouldn’t be right to get a DVA release without a feature from the man himself, Rinse Fm’s Grimey Breakfast show host Mr Scratcha DVA. As a slight deviation from the norm – and in a way a return to the styles his earlier production – DVA lays down a heavyweight slice of synth laden half step, defiantely one to pull your dirty face too. HF026 – Sepalcure – Fleur EP – 12″ Vinyl
Following the release of their stunning summer debut EP ‘Love Pressure’, Sepalcure – a Brooklyn-based duo composed of Travis Stewart and Praveen Sharma – have announced their second EP featuring four brand new cuts, due for release in late January 2011 on Hotflush Recordings. Having produced for years individually as Machinedrum (LuckyMe) and Praveen (of Praveen & Benoît), their new collaboration breathes a new life of its own, reflected in its distinctive, lush sonic warmth and a refreshing style of composition that is as equally fitting on the dancefloor as it is in the comfort of one’s home. The Fleur EP shows a progression of Sepalcure’s depth of field, weaving distant chords, soulful vocals, and organic rhythms into vibrant, immersive soundscapes, with echoes of house, techno, and dubstep within. Be it the gentle melodies of “Fleur”, the ascendant effervescence of “Your Love”, the relentless bass of “No Think”, or the suspending ambience of “Inside”, it is a sound that is unmistakably Sepalcure. Their live performances have been gaining steam over the last year, beginning with appearances at Unsound Festival, Dub War NYC, and The Bunker, followed by a live showcase at Portland’s Decibel Festival in September, they are set to embark on their first European tour with other Hotflush artists this December. They have also composed an original track in Darren Aronofsky’s new film Black Swan, in theatres starting December 2010.

THIN16 – Funckarma – Dubstoned 5 EP – 12″ Vinyl
As we’ve been stalking the Funckens for ten years now, after stumbling upon their parts series on DUB when we were still students, trekking religiously to the Sirius on weekends, eventually spending nights in bus shelters to assist to half a live in a school that only served wine, and trying to organise a bash with them in a squat that burned down a week before the bash, before finally inviting them to an exhibition closing party that incidentally marked the beginning of Thin Consolation, they seemed an obvious choice for a release for the tenth anniversary of UNREzT and the fifth of Thin Consolation. Having already graced Thin Consolation with an album in 2006 as Dif:use (with long-time partner Cor Bolten), this time we requested from them a 12″ of a more step-ish inspiration, the fifth in the Dubstoned series, the previous editions having been released on Highpoint Lowlive, Ad Noiseam and Eat Concrete. In so many words, the Dubstoned series is the last major electronic musical genre to have appeared – Dubstep – to be given the special Funcken treatment: a dark and brooding, dub-flavoured electronica. Not for the faint hearted. Mepeche is co-produced by Phinx, and Spectrum is a remix of a track by Eedl, released on the album ‘Everse’, on the Barcelona-based label spa.RK.

HDB049 – Funkystepz – Fuller / Hurrican Riddim – 12″ Vinyl
Funkystepz are a collective of house producers from North London, with a show on Rinse FM and a string of self-released underground hits under their belts. They’re definitely some of the producers to watch out for this year. After a period of trial and testing on dubplate by DJs like Kode9 and Marcus Nasty, this first release for Hyperdub doesn’t mess about. ‘Fuller’ is a dancefloor destroyer of a very British vintage. Hard without being rigid, with a cold, elastic sense of melody that bounces and snaps around the midrange between the bass and snares. Tempered by an occasional organ stab, it’s one of those tracks that will lively up any club straight away, doing away with the forced euphoria of a lot of contemporary dance music, and instead honing the harder-to-master skill of energetic intensity and building anticipation. ‘Hurricane Riddim’ takes the listener through a number of contrasting moods simply but effectively. Opening with heavy orchestral stabs and military snares reminicent of classic grime, the addition of a complicated, snaking bassline gives the track a jump up feel, and the eight-bar aggression gives way to sections of orchestral calm and a sad but bouncy piano melody.

New Bass Music Promos

EXIT024 – Consequence – Snakes & Skulls / Dub Bounce – 10″ Vinyl
After Consequence’s debut album on Exit as a virtually unknown producer with only a couple of releases to his name, he has blossomed into a much loved and highly regarded musician who’s compositions have that rare listen again quality. His work has been an integral part of the Autonomic movement over the past two years and will continue to be long into the future. With a recently completed second solo album and also a collaborative album project with friend Joe Seven under the alias ‘They live’ on the release schedule, Exit Records present this single as the first of a 10” series reminding us of his talent. On this 10” he turns his hand to the 140 bpm deep dub style and proves that his sound has no boundaries. ‘Snakes & Skulls’ As usual Consequence manages to mix calming ambience with vibrant drums to achieve that cinematic trait that he’s known for. Combining those elements with earth shaking sub bass he works up an organic sounding roots track that beats away with entrancing tribal energy.Unintelligible vocals flutter in and out with filtered drum effects and percussion creeps in and out which keeps the whole piece moving nicely. ‘Dub Bounce’ is truly a remarkable insight into Consequences ability to create character and trigger emotion with his music. Drums and bass swing so hard they could break your neck Dilla style, whilst despairing atmospheres and odious sound effects wreak havoc on your sense of security like watching a horror flick on acid. Production quality and depth of sound are second to none which comes as standard with Consequence, but this track has it in abundance and is sometimes unfathomable. MEDI037 – V.I.V.E.K – Pulse / Roots – 12″ Vinyl
V.I.V.E.K drops his first single since his much talked about double pack ‘Feel It’ was released on DEEP MEDi in October 2010. ‘Pulse’ opens with V.I.V.E.K’s unmistakable dark, resounding, industrial production with layers of subbed out techno touches and efx. ‘Roots’ however on the flip lurches and twists over a deep cinematic melody, V.I.V.E.K on meditation vibes.
Radio Support: Nihal (Radio 1), Benji B (Radio 1), Gilles Peterson (Radio 1), Youngsta (Rinse FM)

DOT005 – Duffstep – Getting To Sirius Remix EP #2 – 12″ Vinyl
Accompanying the debut LP remix EP number 2 straddling the realms of dubstep, house and disco from an ever emerging pool of old and new guard. Remixes On the dub orientated EP with Mark E, Session Victim and Riley Reinhold. Duffstep’s debut album ‘Getting to Sirius’ is a heady potion laced with influences of dub and down tempo beats, winding through layers of melody and synths whilst vocals soften the blow providing a nice, warm and fuzzy edge to the thick slabs of sonic concrete. Though you won’t have to wait before a nice big bass-line knocks you down on your arse again.

IBR006 – Various Artists – Tax Haven II – 12″ Vinyl
The second “Tax Haven” EP from Iberian Records brings together three different producers operating from within the Lisbon and Barcelona bass enclaves for another varied selection of Bass’n'Groove flavours… First up sees Migrant (aka 23Hz) debut on the label with “Monolith”, a driving monster of a tune propelled by an amen break conjugated through a Kuduro drum pattern. The production comes fitted with extra heavy low end body pressure as standard, as we have come to expect from Migrant in his many guises, and the general vibe has a deep Tribal Jungle take on it. Floor shattering appeal here. On the 33rpm flip sees the return of Lisbon based brothers Octa Push with their “Legos” cut featuring K-Tronik. A result of “playing videogames surrounded by African masks”, the production brings a typically beat savvy attack oozing raw bashy energy, with synths and bleeps fighting all-comers. K-Tronik’s (legendery member of Portuguese Hip Hop duo Nigga Poison) brings tight creole verses to tell a cautionary tale of cocky philandering in the hardcore suburbs of Lisbon. Pure originality! Last up sees Cardopusher’s first release on the label with “Dembow Together”. Since moving from Caracas to Barcelona, Cardopusher has gradually progressed from mid range aggression towards a more Funky tropical vibe. Slowing down the bpms to a Funky jam Cardo takes a Reggaton beat pattern and whilst keeping the summertime vibes, forges something all together much more powerfully dirty with Techno/Electro stylings and the sounds of ancient analogue drum machines.

1 Migrant – Monolith
2 Octa Push Ft. K-Tronik – Legos
3 Cardopusher – Dembow Together

NONPLUS010 – Actress – Harrier ATTK / Gershwin – 12″ Vinyl
With a sound that no one can quite touch, nor classify, it comes as little surprise that an outside-the-box artist like Actress would come into the path of Autonomic. The mastermind behind the cult-worshipped Werk Discs (whose roster includes enigmatic producers Lone, Lukid and Zomby), Actress took the electronic spectrum into another direction entirely last year with ‘Splazsh.’ Released on Damon Albarn’s imprint Honest Jons, ‘Splazsh’ brought dynamic Hypercolour to the insular greyness that his ‘Hazyville’ album captured so well. After his acclaimed debut on Nonplus+ in 2010 – the astral ‘Machine And Voice’ EP, the intriguing artist returns to the label with ‘Gershwin / HarrierA bonafide classic to sit in the ranks alongside Cybotron, in comes a typically all-encompassing, textured four-on-the-floor stomper from Actress. A side: ‘Gershwin’ Conjures the bright metallics and intricate programming of a Ford workshop in a futuristic, sci-fi Detroit, but without the repetitive motion: no two bars are the same, and the track moves through so many colors and sounds it’s hard to keep up. Slamming with sharp, piercing lasers, roughly cut beats sit on a building melody that wraps itself around dreamscape New Order esque synths. aa) Actress ‘Harrier ATTK’ brings back the smoky, blurriness of ‘Hazyville,’ with an especially hypnotic twist. It’s the kind of Actress track that makes a listener lose all sense of time and space: a head nodder that could stay on loop for days, where the smallest subtleties come out loudest. Equal parts sublime and austere, a simple melody loops as a clean bass drum hits gently, and tangible sounds crack in the background.

So as Winter seeps away and the frost melts we at Duff Disco are getting ready for these sidewalk, hot summer nights, radio bout to blow, small talk under the lights, feel the heat wild and sweet, Duff Disco returns with his peerless edit series clocking in at a number 5, yeah, a fist full of dollars, the five knuckle shuffle of releases. Sticking to the slo and sexy formula ‘Catch Me Out ‘and ‘You Wish’ are two sultry jams signalling that spring is approaching and all the ladies will begin removing the layers and making the days instantly seem brighter.

WNCL004 – Knowing Looks – Abandoned Skip / Last Kiss At The Plains Hotel – 10″ Vinyl
KNOWING LOOKS aka Toronto based producer Jason Hopfner, records for Musique Risquee, is the co-founder of Grain Records and is a welcome addition to the WNCL stable. ABANDONED SKIP is an unashamed dancefloor killer with it’s hard as hell 2-step beats, irresistible shuffle, swathes of funky electronics and perfectly placed rebel-rousing vocal chants. LAST KISS AT THE PLAINS HOTEL, an epic tale of love and loss, displays a mastery of cut-up production and arrangement that nods as much to Bacharach and Mantovani as it winks to Todd Edwards and Akufen.

PPRO14VSX – Photek – Avalanche / 101 – 12″ Vinyl
Coming soon: Sabre – “A Wandering Journal” LP

Coming soon: Sabre – “A Wandering Journal” LP

Posted 15 February 2010 | By | Categories: news, player, tracks, video | 4 Comments

Told through narrative interludes and a musical score capturing windows in our tale; ‘A Wandering Journal’ is a voyage through experimental electronica; the debut long player from London-based producer, Sabre, and the first solo artist album on Critical Music.

Hailing from north London, 27 year old DJ turned Producer ‘Sabre’ has slowly been risen through the ranks of the global electronic music fraternity, securing as he goes a reputation as a twisted yet soulful thinker, bringing a grittier sound to the deeper spectrum of the drum and bass scene and experimental electronica.

After having spent his earliest years in the Seychelles, Sabre moved to the UK in 1989. Reaching his early teens, he found a passion for Hip-Hop and turntablism, and equipped himself as a bedroom DJ. The subsequent vinyl addiction was cemented by the arrival of the Jungle Era, and overwhelmed by the richness of the music, Sabre started to purchase the occasional release eventually switching focus away from Hip-Hop entirely in the late 90’s with the arrival of more futuristic, industrial sounding drum and bass, from artists like Future Forces, Photek, Teebee and DJ Trace.

After stints on pirate radio stations such as Rude FM a course in music technology followed and armed the young DJ with a firm grasp of studio technique; the first releases came in 2002 under the guise of the collaborative ‘Intimidation Collective’ project, a two man, self- driven enterprise selling white label music from car boots straight to the shops. The profile was growing at grass roots level in the underground, and now approaching 2004, small and mid sized labels started picking up on the ‘techy/soulful’ mix of dance floor drum and bass being produced by the newcomer. The first throws at starting a brand within music came the year after with the launch of London Zu, the now retired drum and bass club night formerly held at Londons’ La Scala venue.

“Still perhaps the most exciting era of my life, around 2002-2004 when I started to first find support in this music, mingle with people who had been my heroes for years, finally knowing that I had a niche and a following, which is all I really wanted.”

In the years since those first opportunities, Sabre’s grown to emerge as a global DJ with residencies across Europe, and secured releases and remix work for labels including Metalheadz, Renegade Hardware, Critical and Shogun Audio. Spanning many styles, this initially dance floor-orientated catalog has since evolved itself towards a more minimal and experimental outlook, resulting in 2007 with a commission from Capitol films to contribute toward the film score for the Tony Kaye feature ‘Black Water Transit’. The view looking to the future is spread across the musical and multimedia spectrum.

“Writing ‘A Wandering Journal’ has been liberating beyond expression. It’s a project I’ve had developed and hibernating for so long that looking back, I know that if it’d been left any longer it wouldn’t have been realised to its true potential. All the unwritten details of the concept and the loose narrative would have faded in my mind. Creating it when I did, whilst the concept was still strong in my mind, and my musical output was amongst the most free-spirited of my career was perfect timing. And it’s spurned me on to be even more ambitious with what I create in the future. I have to approach a new frontier now that this album is complete, and the current multimedia landscape is the perfect playground in which to elaborate on what I stand for creatively.”

Coming soon, new D&B label: FOOTPRINTS

Coming soon, new D&B label: FOOTPRINTS

Posted 20 January 2010 | By | Categories: misc, news, tracks | 1 Comment

Introducing the new label ‘Footprints’ from Zero Tolerance set to launch in the next few months. Two big first releases to showcase, audio can be found below, first, over to Zero T to introduce the label…..

We at FOOTPRINTS are setting our stall out to provide something we feel has been missing from the zeitgeist for too long now….

That something is “90′s Music”…..yes folks, its been 10 years since the 90s and we for one miss it more than ever. It was a time when music metamorphasized into so many wonderful, radical, heartfelt and completely new forms. Unfortunately, life and culture moves in cycles and i think we can all agree that the “noughties” was a largely forgettable era for ALOT of reasons.

The complete dominance of consumerism in our world has , combined with the Net 2.0 revolution, sucked much the life out of this thing we call music. But every action has an equal and opposite reaction, and if Rage Against The Machine making the UK Christmas No.1 in 2009 is a signal of the backlash, the we at FOOTPRINTS hope to assist this return to an older Ethic:

Motivated from the Heart , not the Wallet.

So, in this new Decade we aim to regularly provide you with music made for your mind AND body, that will shake any building to its foundations but still stand alone as a piece of music, taking you to another place, time or mood when heard in its entirety.

We decided to start as we mean to go on…with a BANG!

FOOTPRINTS debut 12″ features label owner ZERO T and old friend BAILEY (BBC/METALHEADZ) combining to devastatin effect. “Wasp Factory” , as you may have guessed, is not a love song! Currently a favorite of everyone from Goldie, Ed Rush and Optical, Lemonde to Paradox and Loxy….Not for the feint-hearted!

On the flip of this comes a slice of paranoid funk from Belfasts mercurial Genius Calibre , alongside DnB legend ST Files of SOUL:R fame! “Devil Inside” has that familiar Signature/Soul;r roll to it, but the other elements may surprise a few: Dark gliding, filtered Reese bases undulate under a piano line to put a chill down your spine….something different from the norm!

Support from Hype, Fabio, Grooverider, Bryan G, Alix Perez, Spectrasoul, Commix etc..

Following hot on the heels of PRINT001 is PRINT002 :

ZERO T + MOSUS -”Shallow Grave” and BETA 2 – ” Cabin Phever”

ZT and his Kiwi buddy get a bit rowdy this time, with a heavy inspration from the early Virus sound of 1998-99. “Shallow Grave” sneaks in a kicks you in the gut and pounds you like Giant Haystacks!! as the vocal sample states….”.i roam when its dark, and take you to some secret place and bury you” Indeed!

Mr.T decided to keep it in the family , Irish-Style, for the 1st two 12″s. So after old cohort Calibre provided the 1st flip side, next up is Zero’s original colaborative partner BETA 2. Its now 10 years since the pair debuted on 4 HERO’s Reinforced, and a long awaited return to the game from BETA 2 looms large! ” CABIN PHEVER” is classic ‘Blue Note’ buisness, for those that know! Beta tickles the ivories with aplom, plucks the Double Bass and chops a break in a style remeniscent of that ginger Ninja , Rupert Parkes (aka Photek)..Two words:

FILM-NOIR

Heavy support from the likes of Marcus Intalex, Jubei, Ulterior Motive, Bailey, Loxy, Ed Rush etc.
