New D&B Releases

REVREC023 – Nocturnal & Hybris – Pyramids – 12″ Vinyl
Next stop for Revolution features another new recruit to our ever growing army, Hybris. After his huge EP for Noisia’s label Vision and releases on Critical and Blackout, this producer is rapidly rising up the dnb ranks. “Pyramids” sees Hybris teaming up with Revolution stalwart Nocturnal to deliver a moody classic brimming with bubbling basslines and razor sharp beats. Some serious technological wizadry going on here! “Lair” takes a crisp electro-tinged beat and a perpetuating bassline and merges them together to create a deep roller with plenty of atmosphere. Definitely one to get those dancefloors rumbling!

DIS048 – Survival & Silent Witness / Survival – Anty / Ever Clear – 12″ Vinyl
On the A side of ‘Dispatch 48′ we have 2 producers who need no introduction with a track that seems to set the screwface look going on any dancefloor it drops in on. This is clearly another studio pairing that really hits it off in the at the controls and needless to say on top of this track we present you right here there will be more superb music forthcoming from these 2 on the label in the future – this we promise. Please play extremely loud. Expertly mastered at ‘Exhale Audio’ LTD. The flip sees Survival go solo with a track that really sounds unique and to be pretty honest we’re finding it hard to describe, however its definitely containing his signature bass and synth sounds put to great effect. Put simply its a stepping number with a sub bass on the drop that is more than lethal to say the least. Support in the clubs and on radio from the likes of: Ant TC1, Break, Cern, Nymfo, Calyx, Anile, Chris SU, Octane & DLR, Sabre, Amoss, Siren, Vicious Circle, Dabs, BluMarTen, Subterra & Xtrah.

MODULE008 – D Minds – Subcrate / Stone River – 10″ Vinyl
Moving up and moving on is the ever on point Modulations imprint, part of the formidable Critical Music empire. This time Kasra hauls in a duo familiar to most, a duo who’ve been a staple part of the D&B world for the best part of the last decade; step forward Bristol’s D*Minds. ‘Sub Crate’ intros delicately with dark pads and a stripped back break that prep us for the badman steppa that’s about to take flight. Drop dread bass is it what it’s all about as D*Minds take us back in time to the early Full Cycle days with heavy kicks, reverse FX and a punching b-line that doesn’t give up. Dangerous without a doubt! Drawing yet again from their heavy west country influence ‘Stone River’ flows nervously through a windswept cityscape with syncopated breaks, slow-rise bass and percussion fills that keep things moving in an otherwise fairly minimal slice of D*Minds artillery. Great to hear Critical bringing out something a little different from these guys.

RECIPE022 – Sato – Glide / Detroit Lies Bleeding (Phobia Remix) – 12″ Vinyl
After the success of the Recipe Book album, Ingredients return to their next 12” single from long stalwart Sato. “Glide” is reminiscent of late 90’s Matrix, with it’s bulging bass line and 2 step drums. Flip for a remix of Sato’s biggest tune so far “detroit lies bleeding” by Phobia. Taking the original and flipping it on it’s head, this monstrous roller has been cained for months by Andy C and will feature in many sets upon it’s release. Perfect dj friendly material and a return to business for Ingredients. SPY “Excellent 5/5”Total Science “Big”Nu:Tone “Full Support”

I’m still torn between the remix & original of number1championsound. Paulblackout’s original is a hard edge, amen packed, classic! But the remix by Producer is such a great remix too, clocking in at just under 9 mins this is a real epic reworking.

MEDI046 – Clouds – A Lot Of Calls From No One Part 2 – 12″ Vinyl
full colour sleeve, 180g pressing. Clouds are a Finnish electronic music production team that consists of Tommi Liikka and Samuli Tanner. Tommi is a Helsinki native and Samuli comes from a small village deep in rural Finland. The pair met through mutual friends in 1999, and ever since planned on producing music together, hindered by both working on various projects and shows of their own. The plan was finally realised after a string of coincidences and happy accidents led them to sharing a house in the northern suburbs of Helsinki. This is the 3rd release from Clouds on Deep Medi Musik, the follow up to ‘Protecting Hands Pt1&2’.

CBR001 – Om Unit vs Kromestar – Solar Cycle / Merkabah – 12″ Vinyl
Cosmic Bridge is the new label of Om Unit, the London based DJ & Producer. Striding into 2011, Cosmic Bridge declares it’s debut with a killer release in the form of an Om Unit & Kromestar collaboration.Om Unit says of the label: “I took this collaboration as a green light to start my own imprint for side projects to my own stuff. The name speaks for itself, just have a listen, we hope you enjoy” The collaboration came about when Om Unit heard new Kromestar material being played on Rinse fm by DJ Jay 5ive, dubs were exchanged with mutual support. What started out as a casual exchange has culminated into something far more profound. Eager ears could do worse than to watch Cosmic Bridge closely this year.Lorn – “Either this came from space traveling dons from universe 9, or some ancient utopia… either way I love it.”Joker – “Sick, i can hear both producers in this”Kutmah – ‘’Sounds fucking AMAZING”Pinch – “these tunes with kromestar are very very good”Machine Drum – “West coast meets UK in the most perfect way. Compton in 2030’’

KAP007 – Benga – Faithless / Acid Lie – 12″ Vinyl
Kapsize is very proud to present our next release from none other than international dubstep superstar – BENGA! A man who should need little introduction – Benga has been famously instrumental in shepherding dubstep music from its inception almost 10 years ago, right through to the global phenomenon it has become now. Having stormed the charts and festivals recently as one third of the mighty Magnetic Man, Benga is still able to walk a delicate tightrope – consistently providing us with credible underground dancefloor music with an accessible edge. The two cuts Benga lets loose here on Kapsize, ‘Faithless’ and ‘Acid Lie’, exemplify this finely tuned understanding of how to work a dancefloor into a frenzy without losing one’s cool.So onto the music… ‘Faithless’ has been a staple of Joker’s sets for several months now – a solid power anthem of a tune. Building up initially with a 4/4 kick pattern and fast chopping cyber samples, ‘Faithless’ soon introduces a Prodigy-esque riff – something that sonically sits between a distorted guitar sample and futuristic synth sound – before laying down the sub-heavypressure of the full drop. A massive club tune by even Benga’s own standards! Flip then for the equally excellent ‘Acid Lie’ which leads with a looping, low-slung and sleezy live bass line – think something from the soundtrack to Kill Bill or Snatch, warning the imminent presence of some bad dudes! Rising textures bring in the leading acid riff line which continues to morph dynamically over the thundering sub bass. A retro rave reference with a very futuristic twist – one for the heads and the ravers alike!

NONPLUS015 – Jon Convex – Radar – 12″ Vinyl
Next up on the label is this brilliant two-tracker from Instra:mental’s Jon Convex. Serving as a taster of his forthcoming debut solo album it’s a hugely impressive 12″ with both sides demanding your attention. There’s a nice old skool eerie, electro feel throughout and the tracks manage that nifty trick of sounding like something from the past and the future at the same time.

NL010 – Boddika / Instra:mental – Grand Prix / Vicodin (Skudge Warehouse Mix) – 12″ Vinyl
Limited Coloured Vinyl pressing. One of my big favourite Instra tunes is Vicodin (released with Let’s Talk – a dark, foreboding dubstep classic) and it gets a makeover by Skudge who are getting mentions everywhere right now. Check this track; even the waveform looks f***in’ dark! Skudge warp it into something between dubstep and house but with all the downer-rhythm that really makes this track. Along with the remix there’s more from Boddika in Grand Prix. Short and sweet little hypnotic bounce track with serious dancability. Kind words from: http://blogandbass.wordpress.com

GREC020V – Enchante – North End EP – 12″ Vinyl
Greco-Roman welcomes a new artist to its camp: following some first appearances at the collective’s local events, London-based producer Enchante will soon release his debut EP North End there, while playing the next Berlin label night this Saturday with Azari & III (DJ set) and others at Picknick. And the new material perfectly fits into the usual Greco-diversity: opening track “Ego” offers deep UK garage, while “Reggay” (despite its name) comes in as the finest skweee-2step we have heard in a long while.

FRJ010 – Cardopusher / Desto / Geiom / Submerse – Frijsfo Beats Volume 3 – 12″ Vinyl
Frijsfo Beats come with the biggest drop yet in their series of vinyl EPs compiling work from various artists. As usual it’s evidently curated with a distinctive ear, tuned to wilder mutations of garage and dubstep. Volume 3 sees Geiom return, by now a label stalwart, but is largely about new blood, delivering a hefty load of talent to the roster all at once in Cardopusher, Desto and Submerse.Cardopusher will shock anyone who thinks they have him pinned down as a purveyor of jump-up tracks, albeit high quality ones. “Then What” pulls the covers from the Venezuelan’s real talent, for rugged techno soul and the kind of weighty but improbably elastic rhythm section that marks out a cannier producer. Though sharper heads will have clocked his recent album for Tigerbeat6, for sheer rewind and replay value his contribution here stands out memorably.Desto isn’t the only Finnish producer to get ahead in the hype game recently, but he stakes out his territory in muscular fashion. His remix of Kuoyah’s “Convex Gravity” (released digitally last year on Frijsfo) follows two excellent twelves for Ramp Recordings. Unexpectedly but grippingly, his inner bruiser gets the cue to come out chopping and screwing: pitching juke-like drums and vocal buckshot at will and scalding the lot with something like the extra corrosive byproduct of an acid line. Geiom won’t necessarily surprise fans of the rangy capabilities represented on his own Berkane Sol imprint and his Frijsfo EPs, Tone Generation being the latest to hit shelves earlier this month. He should delight plenty however, as he jams a grinding 2step beat with slippery tones and stroboscopic gating, the kind of computer madness Underground Resistance might transmit as a distress call from the nth dimension.Last but not at all least Submerse steps out for the label, arguably in overdue fashion. The hugely popular producer has inspired the diverse likes of Well Rounded, Fortified Audio, Mad Decent and Ministry of Sound all to jump on the wagon in some capacity so far. There’s a strong case that “Bubblin’” is his best tune yet, shying away from more blatant moves in favour of a gossamer touch. Low end dynamics are fully present, but beyond the subs it’s all headroom, giving the merest after-impression of a summer garage anthem space to blossom.
a1 Cardopusher – Then What
a2 Kuoyah’s – Convex Gravity (Desto Remix)
b1 Geiom – Chip Voices
b2 Submerse – Bubblin’
