New D&B CD

CITRUSCD005 – Fourward – Episodes – CD
The ever on point Citrus Recordings is stepping up for its 5th artist LP. after having released the debut Albums of Mindscape & Jade wich all went on for critical acclaim it’s time for Citrus to get ready for its 3rd Artist Album. This time it’s time for the debut album of ‘Fourward’! Hailing straight from lower Austria the four men collective FOURWARD started out producing music in early 2007. The boys knew each other for quite a while and shared the love and passion for drumandbass music. For them it was always a main issue not to stick to any particular tiny subgenre only, but to develop a sound of their own. All members have different musical backgrounds which fit together perfectly and provide a great studio vibe. Days went by and the boys finished a couple of tunes properly and it wasn’t long until Austrian drumandbass producer duo Body&Soul showed interest in their works. Also international artists like BBCs very own Crissy Criss began to support their music giving them airplay on his radio show. As a result of their effort FOURWARD has released quality tunes on labels like Subsonik Sound, Planet Funk and Fokuz. The year 2010 they experienced the so called ‘breakthrough’ with releases on NASCA Recordings and Fokuz followed by an epic 12inch for the legendary label VIRUS Recordings! The guys definitely didn’t stop there and being on the road now broadened their horizon even further. Resulting in a series of tunes perfectly fitting together in this CD. Diversity and musicallity are keywords for this album. Listen from Low Blow to You and Me, quality drum ‘n bass!!

New D&B Releases

REDSEAL011 – ASC – Brainscan / Zone One – 12″ Vinyl
Pressed on Silver Vinyl. ASC returns to Samurai Red Seal to follow his prevous release ‘Machines’ / ‘Bleep Test’ (Redseal006). One of the most interesting artists left operating in Drum and Bass, James Clements again re writes the script for 170 BPM production with ‘Brainscan’. A sizzling slice of potent sonic futurism that cuts through systems like a focused lazer beam with a trail of bulging sub bass. ‘Zone One’ marries classic Krust and Photek tinges with a stuttering menace that could only come from ASC. Both sides have been firm favourites with the scenes leading forward thinking DJ’s including Doc Scott, dBridge, Loxy, Spectrasoul, Consequence, Kasra, Black Sun Empire, Triad and many more..

AM006 – Alaska – Boreal / Isochime – 12″ Vinyl
Alaska returns from The Mesozoic Era wilderness and drops the 6th 12” on the ambient-jungle label Arctic Music. Boreal kicks off in true Alaska fashion with vocal loops, deep bass subs, ambient horns and layers of swirling pads sending Boreal into ambient bliss, but it’s the breaks that turn the track on its head with it’s crunchy and heavy patterns that keep the head nodding and feet shuffling. Isochime see’s Alaska return to his early Good Looking Records roots with it’s mesmerising pad swirls and guitar riffs. Sine wave bass notes take care of the bottom end and just when you think everything is relaxed along comes a powerful compressed Amen break thundering like a tornado that destroys anything in it’s path. The unmistakable sound of Isochime. Timeless ambient-jungle from Alaska.

DMND004 – BTK & Optiv – Crawler / Music Within – 12″ Vinyl
It’s clear to see that the first half of 2011 has been an amazing one for Demand Records. With their first release jumping straight into the Beatport charts at #1, the second seeing Nymfo’s first ever remix and with the ink still drying on the license request for Demand’s third release to appear on the latest compilation CD from UKF, it’s clear that this label has achieved more than most start-ups. So it’s no real surprise that the fourth outing from the Swiss-owned imprint is something special too. Here we see Cause 4 Concern member and highly accomplished solo producer, Optiv, team up with Renegade Hardware’s BTK to craft two incredible drum & bass tracks with a completely unique feel. ‘Crawler’ features Presence Known on the beats who helps Optiv & BTK to craft a tribal drum-led slice of D&B with expertly placed sound FX and atmospheric touches. This is like a modern twist on the classic Virus sound, flexing delicate and understated beats with winding mid range synths and deep sub-bass. Impeccable! Backing it up is ‘Music Within’ featuring Podage & LaMeduza. Building slowly and gradually with powerful vocals, once again we’re treated to an education in the art of subtle drum & bass. If you’re looking for rinsed out amens and heavily distorted reese basslines then turn your attentions elsewhere, because this track is as beautiful as it is elegant. It won’t be turning any raves upside down, but that’s not really the point of good music, is it?

A combination of Drum & Bass and hardcore brutality. Let’s be honest, this track is not for everyone, just the strongest survive this powerful mayhem! Forbidden Society & Switch Technique – Shelter: A Collaboration between those two guys  bring a powerful combination of Drum & Bass and Hardcore. Twisted beats supported with a dark melodic reece. FOKUZ046 – N.Phect feat. Fourward – Without Your Touch / Nova – 12″ Vinyl
Every once in while you find a combination thats so interesting you just cant shut up about it! When FOKUZ038, the split EP from Fourward & N.Phect, was released on FOKUZ many were amazed.. In a positive way though! This time its time for a collab between the two. Fourward & NPhect deliver a superb roller thats again pure Fokuz diversity.. Sweet melodies, intro with a dreamy vocal and a heavy rolling bassline with a subtle neuro twist. ANTHEM!With ‘NOVA’ Fourward shows that they’re going onward once more.. onward to interesting directions! With the slick piano player as a theme throughout the tune and their recognisable neuro like bassline, this is another hardhitting piece of funk, a true Fokuz double A-side.

New D&B Promos

APEXX002 – Taktix – It’s The Way (2010 Refix) / It’s The Way (Serum Remix) – 12″ Vinyl
After the massive impact of Harvest’s dance floor destroyer ‘Militant’ Apexx Recordings proudly returns with our second release and we have pulled out all the stops for this one. Dj Taktix’s needs no introduction and neither does ‘It’s The Way’ first come out in 1994 and the remix featuring Top Buzz’s Mad P vocal is a benchmark tune to say the least. Taktix returns after a large break from the scene and comes with a remix with afresh new angle, rather than your typical junglist approach he gives it a dark more twisted vibe, metallic beats, dirty amen and still keeping the vocal gives ‘It’s The Way’ a fresh new vibe. Serum remix on the other hand is exactly what you expect from this highly rated producer and he brings it right up to 2010 with all the attributes there from the original and this remix has caused a storm. Been on dubplate for a while now and still getting airplay on all major radio stations this has had massive support from the likes of Andy C, Bryan Gee, Dj Marky, Nicky Blackmarket, Crissy Criss, Bailey and that’s just a few……. Also Watch out for forthcoming track from Dj Devize ‘Build N Destroy’ massive support from Dj’s Hazard, Marky, Brockie, Nicky Blackmarket & more.

CRIT057EP – Enei – Stonehead EP – 12″ Vinyl x 2
Oh. My. Gosh. Critical come to conquer with this absolutely dangerous 4-tracker courtesy of Russia’s Enei; a name becoming more familiar by the day as one of the most talented and most exciting new school producers in the game. Snapped up by the ever on point label master Kasra, this EP only makes the prospect of the debut Enei album even more tantalizing. The title track ‘Stone Head’ is a bulldozer of a tune that comes complete with the Andy C seal of approval. A stepper’s paradise with rich kicks and a body-slamming, rolling b-line that’ll send shockwaves through any club. Serious is an understatement! Next up Enei hooks up with vocalist Riya for a proper techy bounder ‘No Fear’ with its undulating bassline that bounces hard taking no prisoners as it moves. The wrecking-ball of the bunch. Moving on and the mood changes slightly to the more flowing sounds of ‘Movin’ Fast’; a naughty, gnarly slice of heavyweight D&B with large feedback-infused bass and sick amen edits that keeps things lively. Wait for the breakdown and switch up though for the killer blow! Then finishing things off in fine style is the heavily hammered Jubei remix of Enei, Eastcolors & Noel’s hit from earlier in the year ‘Cracker’. Keeping the seedy original vibe alive, Jubei goes in deep and comes out the other side with another tough slab of speaker freaker bass and beats. Awesome.

DRP003LPTS – Dom & Roland – The Big Bang LP Sampler – 12″ Vinyl
There not much D&B around these days can come close to the sheer force of a Dom and Roland record. As one of the pioneers of the tech-step genre Dom & Roland is well known for his cinematic otherworldly soundscapes, teamed with dancefloor pounding rhythms. Dom continues his passion for pushing the boundaries of sonic manipilation with this sixth studio album, ‘The Big Bang’. Real deal D&B.

SUBTITLESUK009 – Fracture & Mark System – Yeah, But… – 12″ Vinyl
Fracture & Mark System, clearly understanding the fundamental elements Drum with Bass music. Their debut release for Subtitles is utterly compulsive, creating a vibe that’s full of bruising technoid fear, whilst brilliantly funky. On the flip side Closed Circuit’s groove is laid back, while moody beats steadily increase the pressure. Produced to perfection with the emphasis on the funk and groove. As Shy FX said It’s music from the heart. It’s not writing beats to sell units, it’s for the love of it”

Known and loved for his early work as Unknown Error and as a founding member of pioneering label Lifted Music as well his deeper output for Hospital and Horizons, Apex’s Fall Out release adds further to his musical diversity. Disconnected is a stripped back roller that’s groove builds subtly and infectiously whilst carrying all the trademarks of Apex’s production.

On the flip, Czech producers MoreBeat come with a track that may surprise some fans of their neuro sound. Existence has hard as nails drums and edits but still maintains some of the funk that is always present in a MoreBeat production.

HEK011 – James Blake – Order / Pan – 12″ Vinyl
James Blake returns to the label that gave him his debut release with two brand new sub heavy club tracks. Hemlock were responsible for his Air And The Lack Thereof single back in 2009. Neither ‘Order’ or ‘Pan’ have appeared on Blake’s soulful, electronic self-titled album from this year; the new material sees the return of Blake into the more sparse, experimental and wobbling bass heavy sound of his earlier work.

IBR007 – Migrant – Exit Plan EP – 12″ Vinyl
Iberian Records feature on their seventh release an EP from Migrant (aka 23Hz) who comes with three slabs of soundsystem funk and groovy vibes. “Limbic Sistim” kicks off proceedings with a building arrangement into a catchy vocal lick – all underpinned with tight beats and warm subs. “Acid Sumatra” works on a similar tip but ups the tribal and percussive pressure on a deeper insistent rub. Whilst “Pipe Club” brings some classic two-steppy flavours into the mix but cleverly reinforced with massive sub weight. These three tunes are taken from Migrants forthcoming album, also entitled “Exit Plan”. More Bass’n'Groove from the Lisbon and Barcelona based label that should find favour with the deeper end of both Dubstep and UK Funky scenes.’ Early support by Scratcha DVA, Ghosts on Tape, Kid606, Chrissy Muderbot, Cardopusher, Slackk, Mesak, Phaeleh, DeVille, Bunzer0, Throwing Snow.

RS1107 – Klaus – Tusk EP – 12″ Vinyl
When I loaded this EP into my computer to pen some words on this cerebral cortex of an EP, it popped up next to an old recording I have of Klaus Schulze and in many ways it hints at a modern update on his sound. Klaus is not as his name denotes actually from Germany, but a classically trained young musician from London. In his short tenure as a producer, he’s already picked up plaudits from the great James Blake and Mount Kimbie. The latter loved him so much they called upon him to remix their recent Carbonated release. With debut EP Tusk we have an initial statement, which sounds too accomplished to be an entrance into the recorded world. Erudite and cultivated, the EP sets a tone for an early evening on a heavy system or an earlier morning on the headphones against an inner-city backdrop. It twists and turns throughout its four tracks. Layered drum patterns give way to distorted atmospherics permeated with that heavy, heavy bass. It’s almost Eno-esque in its structure, so I’m not going to break each track down here. Stick the whole thing on and experience it’s beauty.

DP058 – Caspa – Fulham 2 Waterloo Remixes – 12″ Vinyl
The original track is already a club anthem but that didn’t stop Emalkay from stamping his hallmark, head-smashing bass-lines all over the place. Whilst Roska; on the other hand, does what he does best flipping Caspa’s infectious synth horns into a lustrous funky affair with a lethal combination of dancefloor drum-lines and his incredible sub-driven synth jabs. Proper party music!

NL009 – Kowton – Keep Walking / Show Me – 12″ Vinyl
Kowton’s EPs are the best possible fit for ‘the devil’s workshop’ – they’re not only deep, dark and warm, but also seductive and, at a pinch, sexy – just like the Dark Prince, or so I’ve been told. Perhaps I’ve come under Satan’s sway, but for me, both EPs released so far on Idle Hands sound like someone who’s been at it for much, much longer: this is a music knowledge which is anything but basic. PNTS001 – Visionist – MR67 – 10″ Vinyl
Limited edition 300 copies 10 inch Vinyl. For those in the know the Visionist, often known as Mr. 67 (vis-á-vis Boiler Room front and center), has been on the radar for some time receiving extensive play from Oneman, Blackdown, and Dark Sky. With a slew of material forthcoming on 502, Diskotopia, and Left_Blank the Mr. 67 release makes available arguably his best-known and well-received work to date. 92 Points the label aims to join the dots between the rapturous heights of 1992 golden-era jungle, turn of the century champagne-bubbly garage, and the modern day mongrel forms that have been shutting down dances of late proving it to be a true ‘nuum imprint. Established by some of the core members of Brixton-centric collective We Are Dubist, 92 Points seeks to combine tight artwork with uncompromising electronic music talent.

GREC021V – Hackman – Close – 12″ Vinyl
This is the one. This is the summer tune of 2011. Skream Annie Mac & Nick Grimshaw have all been building the hype Hackman’s epic title track Close. Probably one of the best pieces of, bass driven vocal dance music this year. Cheekily sniping the Alicia Keys acapella from ‘No One’ and employing the pitching down technique Hackman compliments the vocal riff with layers of heavily clapped out garage breakbeats, and tops it off with a euphoric, futuristic grime bassline that rolls out like an Atlantic breaker. It’s not just close, it’s perfect – and it’s another effortlessly curated release from Greco-Roman.

Hessle Audio present “116 & Rising” LP

Hessle Audio present “116 & Rising” LP

Posted 18 April 2011 | By | Categories: news, tracks | No Comments

Curated by the imprint’s three co-founders – Ben UFO, Pangaea and Pearson Sound (AKA Ramadanman) – the CD version is comprised of 12 brand new tracks tracks, with contributions from every single producer who’s previously released a 12″ on Hessle, plus a couple of guests, and a second disc collecting previously released highlights from the catalogue.

That means fresh heat not just from Pangaea and Pearson Sound but also Blawan, Joe, Elgato, Untold, Cosmin TRG, Peverelist, James Blake and Addison Groove, and a couple of unexpected treats – such as D1‘s never-before-released archive cut ‘Subzero’ and a killer from the hitherto little-known Randomer. Most of the tracks on Disc 2 are modern dancefloor classics, and hardly require any introduction – among them Martyn’s eerily suspended, deeply affecting remix of TRG’s ‘Broken Heart’, Untold’s none-more-livewire ‘I Can’t Stop This Feeling’, Pangaea’s ‘Why’ and James Blake’s ‘Buzzard & Kestrel’ (a track he’s arguably yet to better).

The new tracks will constitue the vinyl edition of 116 & Rising, which is a 12″ triple-pack; the striking artwork on both CD and vinyl editions is by Will Bankhead. Oh, and there’ll be a launch party for the album at London’s XOYO club on Friday 13 May.

Join The Dots Present – Duffstep “Getting To Sirius” LP [DOT004]

Posted 10 January 2011 | By | Categories: news, tracks, video | No Comments

Until now Duffstep has been hidden in the seedy undergrowth of London always disguised, clandestine, covert, forever plotting his imminent escape. This bid for freedom then is called ‘Getting to Sirius’. Sirius is the brightest star in the night sky, in Ancient Greek times Sirius was said to mark the beginning of summer, where women became aroused and men became weak. The gods screamed for glory and the crowd screamed one more.

Duffstep’s debut album ‘Getting to Sirius’ is a heady potion laced with influences of dub and down tempo beats, winding through layers of melody and synths whilst vocals soften the blow providing a nice, warm and fuzzy edge to the thick slabs of sonic concrete. Though you won’t have to wait before a nice big bass-line knocks you down on your arse again.

Duffstep

It’s a migration then from early morning blissful sweeps and sonic washes. It is the soul of rave, it is it’s long dead cousin come back to haunt it. It is the sound rave makes when it re-enters the earth’s atmosphere. It isn’t a simple re-working of what has been showcased in recent live outings, it is more contemplative; unlike his more recent outings it is less aimed at the dance-floor and is instead a more, down-tempo, relaxed affair.

Aside from travelling to Sirius on weekends, Duffstep can also be found sharing a stage with some of the biggest names in electronic music, Flying Lotus, Pinch, Martyn, Commix, Ramadanman, Pariah and Kode 9 to name a few. As well as teaming up alongside Rebel Overlay one of the VJ scenes brightest assets, Duffstep has begun touring a massive live show that is set to be unveiled from Timbuktu to Teignmouth.

Accompanying the debut LP will be 3 remix EP’s straddling the realms of dubstep, house and disco from an ever emerging pool of old and new guard. Remixes split across both digital and vinyl include re-tellings from FaltyDL, Elliphino and Young Montana? On the dub orientated EP with Mark E, Session Victim and Riley Reinhold, Loose fit, Social Monster and Duffstep’s Thursday night drag act alter-ego Duff Disco taking things to house and disco dancefloors. With original material, remix EPs, a debut album and an ever growing touring schedule, Duffstep is going to be hard to ignore in 2011.

8 Ramadanman “Work Them” Swamp 81 (SWAMP006)
Everything Ramadanman touches at the moment invariably becomes a must have for DJs, be it a remix – his Burial beating Woon effort for example – or original production. His ubiquitous anthem “Work Them”, released on Loefah’s Swamp 81 imprint, was the best of the lot.

2 James Blake “CMYK” R&S (RS1003)
In a year that has ended with Blake among the nominations for the BBC Sound Of 2011, it was perhaps “CMYK” that offered the truest indication of his potential. A signature for his futuristic vision of R&B further, sampling Kelis and Aaliyah and mangling them beautifully over a melancholy and glitchy beat.

7 Mount Kimbie “Crooks & Lovers” Hotflush Recordings (HFCD004 / HFLP004)
Released on Scuba’s influential Hotflush imprint, Crooks & Lovers is an aural delight from start to finish. Both Dom and Kai have been at pains to insist their sound is not dubstep per se – and although this is true, it’s equally apparent that they wouldn’t exist in their current form without having the genre as a base from which to explore their own sonic terrain. From the trademark vocal snatches and playful bleeps of “Would Know” to the twangy guitar line and wonderfully chopped vocal melody on “Before I Move Off”, Crooks & Lovers is as fine an exploration of the post-dubstep world as you’re ever likely to hear. The duo create an atmosphere in which every sound matters, with sparse instrumentation, warm pads and typically delicate vocal refrains. There are highlights aplenty, but the melodic flourish of “Carbonated”, which is just so damn warm and fuzzy it’s ridiculous, stands as one of the finer moments – it’s like dubstep meets R&B meets The xx. A lone snare and sombre guitar brings the album to a thoughtful, beatless close with “Between Time”.

Fact Magazine 100 best tracks of 2010

Fact Magazine article – 100 best tracks of 2010

78: Fis-T
 ”Night Hunter”
502 Recordings (502001)
Fis-T arrived from nowhere this year to prove that dubstep wobble, when deployed skillfully, is still one of the most powerful dancefloor tools around. This track hits like a torpedo.

72: Jamie Woon
 ”Night Air” Candent (CDNT001)
Mountaintop ballad by someone destined for big things when his album drops next year. Preferable in its rain-splattered early form; once the backing choir turn up it gets a bit dry ice and Phil Collins, but everyone’s partial to a bit of ‘Sussudio’ every now and then.

64: Pearson Sound
 ”Blanked”
Hessle Audio (HES016)
Survey some people with their finger on the pulse about who makes the best dancefloor tunes right now, and we’d wager David Kennedy will appear more than once. ‘Blanked’, released less than a month ago, seemed to mark the accumulation of his work as Ramadanman and Pearson Sound this year – so that’s ‘Work Them’, ‘Glut’, ‘Tempest’, ‘Grab Somebody’, ‘Fall Short’, ‘Don’t Change for Me’ and more – expanding on those meticulous intros and outros, sharp booty-leaning drums and gut-wrenching breakdowns that seem to drown in sub-bass.

55: Breach
 ”Fatherless” PTN (PTN004)
Who’d have thought that Ben Westbeech, a man with a reputation for considered, perhaps overly musical house music would pull out one of the most ominous dancefloor stompers of the summer? This single also featured two of 2010′s most overlooked tracks in B-side ‘Man Up’ and the runaway train that was Doc Daneeka’s remix.

47: Pangaea
‘Sunset Yellow’ Hessle Audio (HES010)
Nauseous, infected music from one of the artists behind the Hessle Audio label, with divas from forgotten raves crammed together into a demonic torch song.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

31: Peverelist
”Better Ways Of Living” Punch Drunk (DRUNK017)
Peverelist’s ever more skilfully honed but reliably rugged output ought to embarrass some of his lazier and less inspired contemporaries. As far as stripped, jungle and techno-inflected dubstep goes, no can hold a candle to this guy; kids picking up ‘Better Ways’ second-hand in 30 years time will be as blown away by it then as we are now.

26: Guido
 ”Mad Sax” Punch Drunk (DRUNK016 / DRUNKCD003 / DRUNKCD004)
Guido may often be associated associated with that “purple” synth sound, but the truth is he’s got the whole colour spectrum in his employ. As you might expect, there’s plenty of sax in ‘Mad Sax’, pouring like lava though an enchanted forest of larger-than-life crashing timpani, post-coital vocal moans and echo-drenched keyboard chords. As ever with the young Bristol producer, the influence of video game soundtracks on his work is marked, but believe us when we say that there isn’t a video game in existence mad enough to be soundtracked by ‘Mad Sax’. Though we dare say someone in Japan is working on it as we speak.

22: Pariah
”Prism”R&S (RS1005)
Pariah gets compared to Burial, but with ‘Prism’ he showed that although his tracks may be – like Burial’s – nostalgic and heartbroken, his true strength lies in the way he combines that rain-splattered aesthetic with some of the punchiest, most devastating drum loops and acid basslines around.

21: Pinch
‘Croydon House’
Swamp81 (SWAMP007)
One of this year’s most evil and effective club tracks, and for us the first truly vital production to have come out of Pinch’s studio in years. Its rolling subs and crisp claps bring to mind the kind of minimal, rave-friendly grime you simply never hear anymore, whiles its loose congas gesture at UK funky even as they play covert homage to the peerless 2004-6 style of Swamp81 boss Loefah. Absolute murder.

16: Addison Groove
 ”Footcrab” Swamp81 (SWAMP005)
Bristol’s Headhunter has been one of dubstep’s most historically consistent artists, with regular releases on Tempa and more. But it wasn’t until 2010, making acid and juke-influenced dancefloor tracks between dubstep tempo and house tempo, that he had his first hit. ‘Footcrab”s incredibly simple – a steady kick, ice cold chords and a cut-up vocal on a constant loop, with an almost mournful breakdown that could be from a different song entirely – and it proved irresistible to DJs as widespread as Ricardo Villalobos and James Zabiela.

06: James Blake
‘CMYK’
R&S (RS1003)
James Blake has become renowned for having His Own Unique Sound, but what’s really impressive is the diversity with which he’s applied that. On the Bells Sketch EP the London producer made ballroom music for purgatory; on the later Klavierwerke, swingless minimalism that soundtracked sheer fear. In between them came ‘CMYK’, Blake’s most anthemic single to date, full of unashamed Aaliyah and Kelis samples and synths that explode like paint cans thrown against walls. We like anthemic. Anthemic’s good.

02: Ramadanman
‘Glut’
Hemlock (HEK008)
No one artist made more great tracks than Ramadanman in 2010. Already one of the UK’s prime producers, every single that David Kennedy, who’s in the process of phasing out the Ramadanman name in favour of Pearson Sound, released this year either showed another string to his bow, or expanded and honed what was there already.

We had warped experiments with space and percussion (‘Bleeper’, ‘Tumble’), junglist epics (‘Don’t Change for Me’) and some seriously gorgeous house records (‘Your Words Matter’ and his remix of ‘Night Air’), but the main narrative for Kennedy’s discography in 2010 started when he switched to 808-driven drum sounds – something that people thought Addison Groove would make his own in the UK this year. We know, everyone remembered that 808s were great again in 2010, but no one used them quite like Rama did, particularly on this track, for our money an unfairly underrated cousin of ‘Work Them’ and ‘Blanked’.

What still amazes us about ‘Glut’, as well as its B-side ‘Tempest’ and the rest of David Kennedy’s material from 2010, is as you listen to it, you’re incredibly aware of every move it makes, and why it’s making them – there’s almost no surprises, because it all makes such perfect sense and it’s all so perfectly timed. Like all he’s doing is filling in the obvious gaps with the obvious colours. And yet, when moments like that flash of synths in ‘Glut’s breakdown happen, there’s no possible reaction to give past sheer awe.

New D&B Releases

RISE023    Whiskey Tango / The Sum Of All Things – Bulletproof & Concord Dawn    Uprising Records 12″ Vinyl
Concord Dawn continues to impress as he unleashes a slew of new releases in the build up to his new album ‘The Enemy Within’. For Uprising’s 23rd release he enlists the help of fellow Antipodean Bulletproof to roll out two sublime slices of drum & bass that do not disappoint. ‘Whiskey Tango’ brings some classic Hardware vibes with twisting techno riffs, skipping beats and syncopated bursts of bass. Flip over and ‘The Sum Of All Things’ goes for a more epic and euphoric vibe. Gradual building synths are layered with warm pads before a winding LFO seals the deal. With heavy support from DJ Die, The Cuban Brothers and AC Slater this one is bursting out of the D&B scene and onto some of the biggest dancefloors around.
DJ Support: AC Slater, DJ Die, DJ Lee, Evol Intent, High Rankin, Logistics, Micky Finn, Muffler, RackNRuin, Simon Bassline Smith, Temper D, The Cuban Brothers, The Qemists and more.

CYN001 Brighter Day / 88 Mph – Cyantific & Logistics Ft. Natalie Williams Cyantific 12″ Vinyl
Jon Stanley aka Cyantific is back – careering back into the drum & bass spotlight right where he belongs, with the debut release on his own self-titled label. Leading the way is ‘Brighter Day’ – the latest collaboration between Cyantific and fellow Hospital Records artist Logistics. Picking up where their previous outing, the mighty ‘Flashback’, left off, it’s supercharged electric d&b of the highest order, featuring the vocal talents of Natalie Williams. While the lead synth line and uplifting vocals sooth the soul, the ever so snarling bassline and pumping subs remind you that this isn’t going to be all plain sailing. After gaining a huge following online through Danny Byrd’s recent BBC Radio 1 guest mix, the lead track is set to smash dancefloors up and down the country with support from what reads like a who’s who of the drum & bass A list.On the flip, Cyantific goes it alone, deeper into the jungle with ’88 mph’. Filled to the brim with amen breaks, big bass and urgent samples, it’s 3am at Fabric room 1. Reminiscent of Cyantific’s early Hospital Records jungle rinse outs such as ‘Little Green Men’ and ‘Reincarnation Dub’, this latest offering is set to blow a hole twice the size in your bassbin with subs that go so low you will find them somewhere in subterranea.

RAMP038CD Cool Water – Maxmillion Dunbar Ramp Recordings CD
After his ‘Bare Feet’ EP dropped out of the blue last summer, Max has been delivering track after track to the RAMP offices. So dumbfounded we were at the utter breathtaking beauty of this music, that we have no words to describe it. With that in mind, we hand you over to the man himself – Maxmillion Dunbar. “I used to live in the woods. When it would snow there would be huge 4-foot drifts, and my brother and I would cannonball into them from the roof of our house, which was actually the side of a hill. My dad built the house, which is a part of my face in the cover art of the LP.”
“Now I live in the city and play in clubs. When I take the bass out and throw it back in I want you to feel it. Maxmillion tracks are my solo flight from the other music I make, as a co-producer in Beautiful Swimmers and as an MC in Food For Animals. I started Future Times, my label, a few years ago because my friends and I had more tracks than we could keep to ourselves. I love for my music to bang in big speakers but I have equal love and happiness for their role as landmarks in a personal, tropical world of my own.”
“Cool Water is a straight up trip through me. “Pretty Please” is on some boogie party fly shit, and the rest of the tracks sort of travel down from there like some DNA, just unraveling all the zones that I go into; “Sno Mega” is for rollerskates, “Way Down” is an earth tone blast, “Girls Dream” is slow ocean disco, “Rhythm track For Rashied Ali” is a house slam in honor of the illest drummer ever, “Lemon & Lime” is what happened when I got really into this one Polygon Window song this year. “Original Soundtrack Flutes” is my New Age anthem. And “Breathe What U Say” lays it all out at the end like some Brian Eno + Cluster meets T-Pain vibe – just layers and layers of me breathing into a vocoder, dripping away.”

NONPLUS009    +NXTLVLNXTLVL / My Balance (Last Priority) – Jimmy Edgar    Nonplus Records 12″ Vinyl
Finish copies promo. Hot off the back of his sexually charged XXX album which included the track ‘Hot Raw Sex’ of which Instra: mental provided one of many remixes, Jimmy Edgar has elevated the Nonplus catalogue with this superb two track 12”. a) Jimmy Edgar ‘+NXTLVLNXTLVL’ Upon listening to this track it’s obvious this guy oozes natural musical talent from every orifice. Jerky electro beats set the backing or playful chords and melodies and the odd bit of pitch bent Gfunkery, all spliced together with the trademark “on the fly” sounding sequencing like he’s played the whole track from start to finish off the top of his head. This is Jimmy Edgar doing what he does best and that is making raw music with his raw talent.
aa) Jimmy Edgar ‘My Balance (Last Priority) – ‘My balance’ takes the tempo down somewhat and heres where the real sleaze begins. Wolf whistling synth lines, laid back bass and silky smooth drums merge into an orgy of aural pleasure. Think strip clubs, neon lights, and budget porn flicks and you’ll be someway toimagining what this track sounds like. Perfect backing track for a night between the sheets with that special someone.

ISP005 Outbreak / Until Next Time – Arkist & Komonazmuk If Symptoms Persist 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy promo. Ever-versatile, Komonazmuk has seen varied releases on labels including Combat Recordings and Apple Pips, as well as a number of legendary remixes alongside Appleblim, including Brian Eno and Bonobo. His hotly anticipated album is due out on H.E.N.C.H in 2011. Arkist is a fresh face with a fresh sound straight out of Bristol’s creative melting-pot. Newly released from beneath the mentoring wings of Komonazmuk and Appleblim, his slick productions have already been slated for release on DecaRhythm, Apple Pips and Subdepth Records.
A. Arkist & Komonazmuk – ‘Outbreak’ – Is it a bird, is it a plane? Arkist & Komonazmuk’s collaborative effort sticks to ISP’s ‘it’s- impossible-to-pin-down’ mantra, dipping its beak into the waters of electro, robo-funk, dubstep… possibly even harking back to a long-forgotten time when breakbeat was interesting. Straight up, no messing, ‘Outbreak’ comes with its weighty, synthesised beats from the go. After the drop the bassline strolls along playfully below a mirror of the same in light-footed melody. Around the halfway mark the ghosts of former rave stabs and an acid synth line add to an already eclectic sound. Watch out for the growling switch-up in the second drop. DJ support from: Appleblim, the Foreign Beggars, HENCH, Maryanne Hobbs etc
AA. Arkist – ‘Until Next Time’ – The spikey breakbeats and spliced vocals of the intro give little warning of the rich sonics and warm compression of the track that follows the drop. It’s dubstep Jim, but not as we know it… not a wobble in sight but smooth sub-bass pulses position this track firmly on the dancefloor, while a fluid, saturdated melody and glistening top end show exactly why Arkist’s production standards have been turning heads in the scene recently. Never one to sit back and ride the loop, ‘Until Next Time’ is no different, with Arkist repeatedly shifting through gears of sub-heavy groove. If Ibiza was built for bass-heads, this track would be wearing the needles out at the Cafe del Mar. DJ Support from: Scuba, Headhunter, Appleblim etc.

CNDNT001 Night Air / Night Air Ramadanman refix – Jamie Woon Candent Songs 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy Limited Edition vinyl. Jamie Woon is a special talent who will carve his blues n’ bass infused pop songs into your brain and leave them there forever. You might not have heard of him yet, unless you’ve been tapped into the eerie, soulful end of dubstep, but it’s a name you will be hearing a lot of in the coming 12 months. Written and produced by Woon, Night Air is as dark, sweet and seductive as molasses, an irresistibly understated combination of Jamie’s uniquely supple voice, his subtly compulsive beats and a sky full of atmosphere. A melancholic ode to the urgency of the night, it’s a future soul vision taken further into orbit with a dancefloor-winning refix by up and coming techno/dubstep crossover don Ramadanman. But you have to go back a few years to find the seeds of his new sound. In 2007 he released his version of traditional standard ‘Wayfaring Stranger’ with a remix from secretive and ultra selective producer Burial on the flip. It turned people like Gilles Peterson and Mary-Anne Hobbs into full-blown Woon fans. The release also recalibrated his musical mind and inspired him to re-think his approach on music. Woon is now primed to be one of the most exciting artists you’re likely to hear all year, a man who is populist but always inventive, a modest and understated 27 year old who’s making hugely ambitious music that you’ll be filing somewhere, between your favourite Four Tet, Richard Hawley and D’Angelo records. Singer, songwriter and self-taught producer Woon made his name by playing live. He’s got hundreds of gigs under his belt, from endless spots in front of the microphone with just his guitar, an effects box and that unmistakable voice, to supporting Amy Winehouse. He’s played in a full band with dubstep DJ and producer Reso on drums and he’s taken stage at Sonar. He has now made the music that will let him switch between intimate gigs to stages with a bigger reach. The new sound fuses his future pop songs with ’80s reverb, ultra-tight beats and acres of bass and they cleverly carry the intimate emotions of his early sound into a whole different room; bigger, badder… heavier. Watch out for his debut album in spring 2011…

RS1007    Klavierwerke EP – James Blake    R&S Records 12″ Vinyl
R&S Records return with another amazing single from the UK future bass scene, following the James Blake R&S debut ‘CMYK EP’ (possibly the biggest release of the year) and the awesome Pariah ‘Safehouses’ doublepack. Fact magazine recently quoted the label as having ‘its finger firmly on the pulse’ and ‘proveing that R&S remains a force to reckoned with’ – high praise indeed.
2010 saw James Blake emerge as the leading light in a populated world of forward thinking music, expertly disposing of the commonly used dubstep rule book with the Bell Sketch 12” on Hessle Audio before teaching daytime radio a strict lesson in quality control with his R&S Records debut CMYK EP. The worlds leading tastemakers were beside themselves, showering the internet with praise, whilst in the outer reaches of the blog ether, rumours of James’ songs began to surface. The Klavierwerke EP features the first glimpse of Blakes vocal, albeit cut, pitched and intricately woven into four tracks that offer an insight into James’ futuristic soundscape. Where the R&B sampling CMYK EP aimed at the dancefloor, the Klavierwerke EP finds itself on an insular and abstract plain, in places reminiscent of Burials emotive urban hymms while all the time maintaining the distinct originality that sets James apart from the rest. The title track, a sonic realisation of a recent Berlin escapade pays homage to Berghain, the cavernous HQ of techno, where languid pianos and James’ pitch shifted vocals collide head on with moody low frequencies. I Only Know (What I Know Now) is a contemplative piece where James’ voice is brought to the fore, casting a solemn gaze over his own re-sampled piano to create a contemporary masterpiece. “Don’t You Think I Do” follows a similar path, drawing on a side-chained lead synth and trademark piano. Tell Her Safe rounds off the EP, further affecting the vocal against a high tempo beat. The perfect follow up to the huge CMYK EP and a true representation of what’s around the corner for one of the most exciting artists to emerge in years.

SUBWAYDS002    Destination EP 2 – Various Artists    Subway 12″ Vinyl x 2
Finish copy promo. Part 2 of the Subway “Destination” Series contains a various scala of sounds from deep within the dubstep spectrum.. The A side is one that has been tearing dancefloors non stop is none other then SPL & Geno Cochino’s Medusa.. This insane record is one the best outings SPL has done to date.. this immense drop & serious bassline arent ones to toy with, so if you need to have something torn down.. look no further.. Then finally after years of floating on dub its “Trap Or Die” Atlanta’s homegrown Mayhem steps up together with Whisperlink to show how addicting a tech-ed out tune can sound.. keep going to the second drop to maximise the damage… Plate 2 side C aka tune no 7 in the series… and that means of course Seven is up for his addition to the compilation.. This tune has been rinsed by the likes of N-Type, Youngsta mainly few years back and finally sees its release on wax.. Crazy Talk is one for the deeper heads with a sub bassline inside that will make any room shake its foundations. Turn up the volume and turn down the lights.. time to get your hoodies up and look to the floor.. Then off to the final tune of this compilation.. “Save the best for last” as they allways say.. And that title is wel deserved for Enei’s offering “Late Detroit”.. Being part of the Giant crew hasnt affected Enei one bit as this sounds completely different.. This deep 135bpm roller is one that can test any soundsystem.. sounding like garage & dubstep at the same time is something new and fresh.. and a perfect fit as Subways ending track of this first compilation.

New D&B Releases

OK020 OK020 The Remixes – Raiden Offkey 12″ Vinyl
This is a landmark release for Offkey Music. It marks twenty releases in the last five years. From singles to EPs to an Album It has been tough but equally rewarding experience. The label has reached beyond our expectations and we wanted to mark it suitably, Thus for this release we are proud to bring you two remixes from the labels back catalogue, courtesy of Inneractive’s Spirit & Shogun Audio’s Icicle.
Raiden- M82: Spirit Remix: The original track was a rolling yet edit heavy drum work out from Raiden, big on the bass and rich textures as you would expect. M82 signalled a new concentration on bass weight from Raiden and began to prick the ears of deejays. Spirit was one of the first to pick up on the track so there was no better choice for the rework, Spirit has further stripped back the track to its core elements and has in turn found another groove to exploit, A great rework from a dance music veteran. Pounding bass and stepping drums are the order of the day!
Raiden & Khanage: King Stays King: Icicles Royal Treatment: ‘Kings’ is a track that has achieved the honour of being the most played track in the labels history, the list of deejays who played the original reads like a who’s who of drum n bass. There were few choices for remixing the track, Icicle was number one the list and to the labels pleasure, the coldest producer in the land jumped at the chance & delivered everything you would expect, juggernaught drums laced with only the best bass from the Dutch wonder. As soon as the track went public the reactions were instantaneous, rounding off a landmark release for Offkey Music. Heres to the future!

CRIT047 Back To The Jungle / Who Jah Bless – Bladerunner / Serum & Bladerunner Critical Music 12″ Vinyl
Calling all foot-soldiers to the floor! Hold your positions as Critical stand firm ready to drop one of its most rowdy releases in quite some time. Looking back to go forward we see Bladerunner and Serum going in hard with a 12” brimming with jungle riddims guaranteed to have the rudest of rudeboys skanking out as Critical shows its undeniable versatility once more. Bladerunner steps up first with the evocative, cinematic intro of ‘Back To the Jungle’, that manages to set the scene perfectly for what’s to come with tomtom hits, deep forest atmospherics and a certain “every time I think I’m gonna wake up back in the jungle..” sample. As he says it that’s exactly what we do as in crash the breaks, mentasm stabs and the largest of basslines that takes so things old-skool you could almost swear it was 1994 again. Sometimes they really do make them like they used to and we’re very pleased that they do, phenomenal. Teaming up with Serum on the flip sees the pair continuing the theme with ‘Who Jah Bless’, another excursion right back to the roots. Skipping breaks, bleep fx and sax pave the way to one of the all time classic studio techniques synonymous with jungle/drum & bass – the time-stretched vocal! Sitting perfectly in the mix it signals the drop of smashing drums, massive rise & fall bass and pitch shifting snares that finish this one off with a touch of class. Another very special Critical release indeed. DJ support from Andy C, Hype, Friction, Cyantific, Logistics and many more.

BMT003 Natural History Remixes: Part 1 – Blu Mar Ten Blu Mar Ten 12″ Vinyl
This summer, Blu Mar Ten follows up the success of their 2009 LP ‘Natural History’ with a two-part set of remixes that bring together the finest in fresh and established talent from across the globe. DJ support is coming in from right across the scene, including London Elektricity, Friction, Doc Scott, Lynx, John B, Nookie and many more.
Overwhelm (Seba remix): Seba assaults the calm of the original ‘Overwhelm’ with a battery of old skool breaks and signature cosmic sweeps that recall the highlights of the Good Looking Records era. Lifting the tune away from the bedroom and up towards the dancefloor Seba’s remix has immediately become a favourite of some of the biggest names in d&b, effortlessly demonstrating why he’s remained at the top of the game for more than 15 years. Seba’s remix of ‘Overwhelm’ is featured on DJ Friction’s forthcoming mix CD for Ministry of Sound.
Believe Me (Bop remix): Bop takes the opposite route with his interpretation of ‘Believe Me’, opening up a bottomless well of reverb and throwing the components of the original into it, piece by piece. The result is a beautiful inversion of the original, showcasing the near-beatless melancholy the young Russian has become famous for.

INMD007 Only Words DNB VIP / All The Time – Blue Motion Influenza Media 12″ Vinyl
Anyone that’s been paying attention to the more chilled out spectrum of drum & bass might find Influenza label owner, Eros causing quite a stir as of late. 2009 saw releases on Golden Orb, InnerGround, Fokuz, Good Looking and of course, Influenza Media; and collaborations with Paul SG, Atmospherix, Mutt, The Square and Soulgrifter. But Eros’ latest project, and perhaps most impressive, is his collaboration with Dirrrty B as Blue Motion. Since November 2009, these two have pressed their driven, upbeat sound into a plethora of labels including Phunkfiction, Good Looking, Fokuz, Ingredients,Future Thinkin, Temper D Productions, Vibez, Peer Pressure, Amen Brother,Point 9 Audio, Funk Star and many more. As we come into this fantastic release, we are met by the mystifying but beautiful intro of Only Words VIP. As if climbing a mountain, the layers just continue to build – synths, bass, rolling drums, and, of course, what melodic track wouldn’t be complete without a few angelic wind instruments? As the break rolls through, the melody rebuilds creating a state of ecstasy once again. All The Time chills it out a bit, bringing forth the soul element with Grimm on vocals. A beautifully constructed string bassline leads the way to the drop, as atmospheric trumpet riffs ring in the background. Get touched on this one!

G-ILLA005 Guilty / Black Monday – Krusha Guerilla 12″ Vinyl
GUERILLA 05 12″ Features non other than George Krakus aka KRUSHA ‘Guilty’ is one for the deep rooted soldiers. Epic strings and orchestra sweeps encompass wild roaring amens and rediculous glitches. And just when you thin its over .. the tune really works out the madness of Krusha’s mind. he only thing this record is Guilty of is smashing it up. ‘Black Monday’ totally lets Krusha expirement with the industrial – hard metal edge found in alot of his earlier releases on label’s such as Barcode & Obscene. The intro creeps in. Winding around like a whirlpool till it drops into haltime rickus of eachoes and bass squelches. Grinding metal riffs all the way thru this piece. Defintley one for the die hard Krusha fans.

Finish copy. Engine Music is delighted to present this next release from German wunder-trio, Triad. Comprised of Henree with releases on Soul:R and C.I.A under his belt, Bastikal, headhoncho of the much respected PhunkFiction label and L Flow a classically trained musician and avid analogue synth collector. As Triad they belong to the new breed of producers, reexamining the conventions and reinvigorating the experimentation in the dnb genre which has been lacking unitl late. Two slices of mature, open minded dnb with Spellbound on the A side. A subdued, bass heavy stepper with a naughty bassline switch up. Fortune on the flip is a little half tempo number with dubbed out samples and a sultry bassline. Or as we like to call it: a slow grinder. Fans of the current Autonomic sound should not sleep on this! Dj support from Goldie, Teebee, Calyx, Lenzman and Flight amongst others.

PM020 Eternalism / Paralyze Babylon – Paradox / Equinox Paradox Music 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy promo. The 60th 12” across the Paradox labels has landed! and to mark PM020 in style Paradox Music has finally added the legendary Equinox to their artist roster after nearly a decade of requests. ‘Paralyze Babylon’ oozes funk and dnb knowledge as Marlon Equinox demonstrates that it is possible to roll linear edited breaks (a paradox in itself). Low subs rumble underneath fx and reggae vocals whilst a great 808 b-line complements dirty amen loops that swing left-to-right, but still have that paramount linear funk – a simple master class in breakbeat science. Paradox switches his amen eq to complement ‘Paralyze Babylon’ for a raw jungle workout on the flip. ‘Eternalism’ is uncooked meat Paradox style! Crusty low pitch patterns with a heavy bass kick pedal keep everything in check whilst fx and eerie film samples swirl around intricate reverse breaks that don’t fall down the stairs. DJ Support: Utah Jazz, Bailey, Zero T, Gremlinz, Naibu, Alley Cat, Soul Intent, Fracture & Neptune.

PRODUCT009 Turn The Page / Chamber – Craggz & Parallel Product Recordings 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy promo. September signals a welcome return to the scene by two of D&B’s most respected characters, Craggz & Parallel, and it couldn’t have come a moment too soon. Since releasing their debut ‘Northern Soul’ LP on Valve back in 2006 the pair have stepped back, regrouped and are now ready to come full force with a brand new super-fresh sound that’s sure to raise heads throughout the scene. Drawing on influences from electronic music past and present from early techno sounds, 80’s synth-pop through to a myriad of contemporary dance music genres, Craggz & Parallel have created a truly unique and daring album sure to quench the most discerning and dance floor tastes whilst challenging the more traditional drum and bass album ideals. Even reverting back to analogue production techniques to combine with the modern creates an experience unlike any other around today so keep you ears open for the genius new sounds of Craggz & Parallel. The first Vinyl 12” features Turn The Page & Chamber Kicking off in fine style the title track opens with an epic intro awash with crooked bottle-nose FXand pads that mesmerize. Creeping bass tones follow until the drop into a massive hard-stepping slice of menacing technoid D&B that’s sure to bring out the screw-face in all who hear it. Then doing things a little differently, ‘Chamber’ features a stripped back approach that works a nasty bass-wave riff into a seriously intense slice of dark drum and bass. One for the more adventurous dance floors.
“I don’t really say things like this much, but Craggz & Parallel are about to flip D&B on its head…” Breakage
“Analogue synths, drum machines & +170bpm = Top album. C&P FTW!!” dBridge
“Craggz & Parallel have taken a bold step towards a much deeper, more mature and personal sound; locking themselves away for 2 years has resulted in a truly inspirational album that will turn a lot of heads. One of the best releases in 2010 by some way, this
definitely gets the Flight seal of approval.” DJ Flight

LABCD002 Puppets – Truth Aquatic Lab Records CD
Since their debut appearance on Deep Medi Music, Truth has been hard at work on their LP and now it’s ready to drop. With the initial album sampler (LAB010 ‘Dead Silence’ & ‘Burglar’) laying the foundations, the second 12” LAB011 (forthcoming on 9th August) reinforces with ‘Juno’ & ‘Under Current’, two huge stepper grooves layered with more than enough weight for the shockout. The album itself ‘Puppets’ is a dense trip through moody big bass-driven soundscapes that include some of their finest work in the form of ‘The Fatman’, ‘Lab Rat’ and a VIP of the previously released ‘Terror Planet’. Also on the roster, Truth’s ‘Legion’, possibly their most sought-after riddim to date, which brings their trademark sound signatures of sweeping synths and massive amounts of bass fully into place. ‘Pup- pets’ touches on many styles such as the liquid offering of ‘Indigo Mood’, or the almost genre defying vocal lick ‘Don’t Explain’. ‘Puppets’ is a full bodied experience from start to finish – for darkly elegant dubstep it doesn’t get much better than this. Truth have received DJ support around the globe from artists such as Mala, Skream, Joe Nice, Breakage, Hatcha and N Type, with their beats being dropped at shows from Club Love in New York City to DMZ in London, as well as featur- ing on radio stations BBC Radio One, Kiss and Rinse. Two comprehensive Europe tours and a string of gigs around Australia and Asia, have included an appearance at the legendary DMZ night in Brixton and the infamous Sub Dub in Leeds. Truth’s big riddims have been quickly snatched up by a number of established labels such as seminal Deep Medi Musik and Skream’s Disfigured Dubs. Alix Perez has included his collaboration with Truth on his debut album ’1984′ and the group have remixed the likes of The Nextmen, Ms Dynamite and Silverclub.

DRUNK017 Better Ways Of Living / Fighting Without Fighting – Peverelist Punch Drunk Records 12″ Vinyl
The only J word we use is Jungle. Percussion, polyrhythm, the interaction of bass and drums, the essence of dance music, the unmistakeable UK flavour. Riddim tracks, dj tracks, dance music. Soundsystem music, Dub music. Unmistakeably Peverelist. Cut LOUD for DJs. Peverelist is the lynchpin of the Bristol dubstep music scene. His championing of home grown talent has made his label, Punch Drunk Records, perhaps the defining contemporary label of one of the world’s most influential musical cities. His own productions have been hugely influential in shaping the second wave dubstep sound, drawing influences from UK & JA sound system culture and European & American House and Techno. His releases include genre defining classics on Skull Disco, Tectonic and Punch Drunk, culminating in the ‘Jarvik Mindstate’ album of late 2009,
“(one of) the pantheon of important dubstep albums alongside Burial, Shackleton and Kode 9 ” – Fact Magazine
Peverelist productions and dj sets are renowned for uncompromising, challenging, forward thinking innovation and militant underground aesthetics, unusual in the increasingly homogenous and ‘rave’ orientated dubstep over ground. He learnt his trade and furthered his passionate grass roots approach during a decade working in the UK underground frontline of inner city Bristol’s influential and last remaining independent record shop, Rooted Records, Peverelist is a resident at Bristol’s definitive and original dubstep club night Subloaded. He also co-promotes Bristol’s longest running monthly specialist dubstep event, Dubloaded, alongside Pinch and has played at DMZ, FWD>>, toured Japan and played extensively in Europe. attached artwork, label logos and press shot for your use.

LAB011 Juno / Under Current – Truth / Truth & Ben Verse Aquatic Lab Records 12″ Vinyl
The second sampler from Truth’s forthcoming album ‘Puppets’ comes in the form of two rave ready killers, ‘Juno’ and ‘Under Current’. ’Juno’ features a crushing riddim anchored beneath a huge undertow of warped bass arrangements and brutal drops. A coveted dub by the likes of Skream, Joe Nice, NType and Benga. Flip over for ‘Under Current’, a new school drum dub excursion in collaboration with ‘The Pendulum Man’ Ben Verse. The end result is a ramp up bass roller with tight percussion. Already a fixture in the sets of NType & Youngsta.

CMPD007 Get Loose – Landslide Remix / Fracture & Qualifide 170bpm Remix – Compound One Compound Records 12″ Vinyl
Compound One started as a concept while they were at the pioneering Dubstep club night FWD. Fracture had been checking out the emerging Dubstep sound and Qualifide was then hosting a weekly show on Rinse FM and had begun to mix dubstep in with his usual garage style. The timing was right, the studio session was booked…’Get Loose’ was unleashed!
LANDSLIDE REMIX: What can be said about this remix? It’s next level! Landslide has done what only he can do and has managed to completely change the vibe of the track by taking it down a more bouncy, jazzy, garage route but at the same time keeping the low end and vibe of Get Loose in tact. Layers upon layers of Landslide’s trademark chords & sound FX, intricate programming & solid drums cause this classic remix send shivers down your spine!
FRACTURE & QUALIFIDE 170bpm REMIX: Compound One revert to their original aliases and totally flip the script with a back to the roots deep Drum and Bass remix as a salute to their heritage. With the boundries between D&B and Dubstep slowly blurring they thought it would be the perfect time to write their first D&B collaberation since 1996! It features all the rudeness of the original but ups the tempo to give the track a new pace and feeling.

ASC004 Thru The Blinds / Love – Kromestar Cloqworq Recordings 12″ Vinyl
This white label promo release needs no introduction as one of the leading pioneers of UK Dubstep provides the second release written especially for Anti Social’s Cloqworq Records. DJ Kromestar has proved his talent time and time again over the past four years through a string of releases with the infamous Deep Medi label and Dubstar Records, alongside others. Kromestar has broken boundaries from the very start of his career producing club smashers such as ‘Get Up’ and ‘Kalawanji’ aswell as bringing to you the more soulful, meditational vibes such as ‘Galactic War’ from the debut album ‘My Sound’ and not to mention a barrage of anthems he released on the mix compilation last year entitled ‘The Other Side’ which he describes as strictly experimental 140. DJ Kromestar has and will be one to watch for the foreseeable future standing as one of the most exciting and not to mention groundbreaking producers to have entered the genre. ‘Thru The Blinds’ is a clever combination of sub low bass pressure with the eerie yet emotive atmospherics to put any dancefloor into a meditational trance – Dark and moody dub vibes with a killer low end sub over a tribal beat pattern in true Kromestar style. This is a real stomper of a hit. ‘Love’ takes a different stance on the B side delving into the more experimental side of this producer’s catalogue – smooth, eclectic pads dropping into low down sub stabs over another unconventional but highly effective beat. This represents the other side to the anti social sound which can only be described of as the deeper liquid Dubstep sound in trademark style.
Both tracks have had support on the highly acclaimed rinse fm on a weekly basis (WWW.RINSE.FM) and are receiving heavy rotation from DJs such as SKREAM, MALA AND N-TYPE in the clubs and not to mention major dubstep icons such as HATCHA from KISS
100 and MARYANNE HOBBS from RADIO 1, This highlights the versatility of these tracks and the potential to cross into Dj sets from different genres. These are both long awaited releases having caused a lot of interest on dubstepforum.com as well as having been reviewed on various portals and online magazines such as GetDarker.com and also residentadvisor.net – a real must for all serious dubsteppers worldwide

HDB038 Up In my Head / Phat Si – Cooly G HyperDub 12″ Vinyl
Since her debut EP for Hyperdub early last year, which won accolades everywhere from the Guardian to Mixmag to Music Week, Cooly G has become firmly established as an in-demand producer and remixer, touring the world as a DJ. She is also starting her own label, with new music due for release soon. This is her second proper Hyperdub single, which follows the ‘Hyperdub 5.5’ EP she shared last year with Mala from Digital Mystikz. Side A is the utterly dreamy ‘Up In My Head’, a blissful track built around Cooly’s vocals, lush sheets of chords and pulsing drums that sound like a never ending build up. Side AA, ‘Phat Si’ is, in contrast, a frantic swirling drama where drums and abstract bleeps and stabs snake around each other over tough as leather drums and pulsing dread bass.
