New D&B CD

FILMCD005 – Big Bud – Kool Beans – CD
SOUNdTRAX RECORDS proudly presents BIG BUD’s fifth solo album, KOOL BEANS. Since 1994 BIG BUD has quietly gone about his business , releasing singles and albums on labels such as CREATIVE SOURCE, GOOD LOOKING, MOVING SHADOW, PARADOX MUSIC and more but now releases solely on his own label SOUNdTRAX which has been running for 8 years. Although maybe best known for his atmospheric sound, after years of touring the World as a DJ, playing in over 25 countries so far, his sound has broadened and now incorporates a more diverse style. From playing 3 month long tours covering everything from small, intimate clubs at the very end of the South Island of NEW ZEALAND to playing large festivals as far apart as AUSTRALIA, UKRAINE, BULGARIA and ROMANIA this album is testament to his versatility.”The majority of my gigs, I get booked to play drum and bass but over the years I’ve dropped plenty of House sets , Reggae sets, but what I enjoy most of all is when I’m told I can play anything I like . That total freedom is great, I ended up playing a 7 hour set at the EXODUS festival out in the bush in AUSTRALIA and I went all over the place musically , maybe one my most enjoyable sets ever! The old atmospheric influence is still there but mixed with some straight up Liquid rollers, Balkan flavoured cuts dubby vibes, experimental leftfield drum and bass as well as several downtempo tracks though always with his trademark, Soulful deep productions ..”On all my previous albums I’ve dabbled in other styles and tempos, everything from Jazz, Hip Hop to House and a few ambient pieces. I listen to all sorts of music so I like to try and express myself in the same way” The three tracks that venture down the bpm count include a dub/garage hybrid cut , a Latin / Broken beat, moody instrumental as well as a chilled out reggae song featuring his regular MC, MIKE ROMEO .. Another special guest featuring on the album is long time friend and former GLO stable mate MC.DRS who drops an eerie vocal and rap over the experimental track CHANGES!As BIG BUD himself states: “There’s no real concept or deep meaningful story behind this album, just a representation of what and where I am right now ! I enjoy making albums , and enjoy touring them even more , it can get a bit lonely in the studio so it’s great to hit the road and test the tracks out to a worldwide audience!“

BRD009 – Kubrak – Ursa Major / Time Moves On – 12″ Vinyl
Kubrak, one half of dynamic production duo Utopia, previously featured on BRD003; with his solo effort ‘Fast Forward’. Cementing his name as one of the emerging artists to keep your eye on in 2009, Kubrak has gone one step further to unveil his first solo release on Breed 12 Inches. Yet another Russian (one of 5 to appear so far on Breed’s back catalogue), Kubrak captures the industrial movement of his home country, in such a manner that results in a legion of fans. Unrelenting, much like his homeland, his production output is in your face, whilst keeping your feet firmly planted with inventive and progressive melodic based arrangements. We welcome Kubrak back to the family, but most certainly not for the last time. The A-side ‘Ursa Major’ kicks of in enigmatic fanfare, with hyped strings progressively amounting towards that trademark stomping Kubrak drop. Big, beefy and full of quirky melodies, Kubrak caters for all spectrum’s with this dancefloor smasher. The stars are out in full view.Something slightly different from Kubrak on the flipside, with ‘Time Moves On’. Kubrak drives the track forward with gorgeous melodies, complete with a sublimely elegant vocal, yet manages to keep his trademark bleeps and drones present. A perfect blend for an artist who can only get better.

DETAIL006 – Lynx & Hellrazor – Traffic Jam – 12″ Vinyl
Traffic Jam featuring fellow studio companion Hellrazor has all the brooding tension of 5 o clock rush hour on the M1. Never quite reaching utter road rage its scatty beats and warped basslines are backed up by sporadic car horns and traffic atmospheres. Nina is a track very close to Lynx, written about a relationship that was never meant to be. Heartfelt chords and vocals reminisce on what once was. As the vocal whispers – Love grows naturally…. and so does the track. As supported by Marky, Shy FX, Calibre, Marcus Intalex, Bailey, Lenzman and more.

The 2nd instalment increases the pressure! Jubei’s “The Path” was a classic in 2009 and man of the moment Skeptical has created a killer remix! Staying with the intense vibe, this is pure gnarly business & highlights just how fresh Skeptical’s sound is. 2012 & beyond. Flip for another rising star in the making “Foreign Concept”. He has 3 massive tunes released in 2011 and this just might be the pick of the bunch. “Jaipur” is very Metalheadz in vibe & style & completes a superb 12” for the Ingredients camp. FOKUZLP007 – Donnie Dubson – Monday Is The New Sunday – 12″ Vinyl x 4
In the impressive flow of new talent in 2011 on Fokuz recordings we already had the pleasure to present the sound of Brother, Command Strange and Intelligent Manners among others. The next flavour of the funky liquid melting pot called Fokuz Recordings goes by the name Donnie Dubson. Berlin based Irishman Donnie O’Sullivan aka Donnie Dubson started releasing his funky rollers on Have a Break and Influenza Media and already featured on Fokuz on the Chronicles of the Deep LP together with Stunna back in 2007. The Grapefruit / Battlecat release on Influenza Media in 2009 got him a lot of attention and is still heard in dj sets today. Now it’s 2011 and Fokuz presents the beautiful debut album of Donnie Dubson! His sound can be described as refreshing and original Liquid drum’n bass with a touch of the well known atmospheric drum’n bass vibes from the mid 0′s. His basslines are the unique sellingpoint as well as his ability to create an organic feel in the music that’s only done by the few who truly understand what liquid drum’n bass is all about. Pleasuring both critical listeners and the dancefloor audience this album is a perfect overview of the sound FOKUZ stands for. A great example of how music can be “time-less” in this decade of fast moving consumer goods.

HF028 – Roska – Error Code / Abrupt – 12″ Vinyl
Hotflush presents the full label debut of UK funky figurehead Roska, following his appearance on the recent BACK AND 4TH compilation and seminal remix of Untold’s “Just For You” in 2009. This release brings together two cuts that emphasize a healthy evolution of the Roska style that has made such an impact on bass music in the last couple of years. Retaining the customary hard-hitting percussion and raw syncopated rhythms, a slightly futuristic twinge moves us into more unfamiliar territory, with the energetic synth arpeggiation of “Error Code” backed by the spacier, dubbed-out “Abrupt”.

Genetix are back with an EP that will rattle your chest with bass and make your head explode. I can confirm, this has happened too many of my friends and has got me in a great deal of trouble. “Beast Mode”, my pick of the lot, is a collaboration with Persist and is an absolute assault of disgusting basslines, switches and filthy beats produced at the highest end. Then “Termination” and “Stealth” offer up more terrifying, futurist and hard edged Dubstep that is certainly not for anyone with a heart condition. Strictly dance floor bizzle!

TR003 – Benton / Arc 88 – Having Fun / 2 Many – 12″ Vinyl
Started in 2005 as collaboration with a friend, Terrain records had releases from Manchester artists S.N.O & Omen, with remixes from a young Skream, and N-Type. The label lay dormant for 5 years, but for 2011 N-Type has decided to relaunch the label, focusing on 140bpm jungle & hardcore influenced dubstep. For the 3rd release on the label, N-type presents two young artists with a love for the oldskool hardcore junglist sound Benton and ARC 88. A side ‘Having Fun’ by Benton is reminiscent of early Jungle, with rolling amen breaks, thunderous Reece bassline, and classic pitched up female vocals. This tune has been a staple in N-types dubplate collection AA Side ‘2 Many’ by ARC 88 is a dancehall killah! 140bpm jungle rinser, featuring ragga vocals and a euphoric breakdown. Featured on the new Wheel & Deal Records album mix by DJ N-Type, this track is a standard reload. Both tracks are currently being battered by N-Type, Skream, Dismantle, Walsh, Bluesy, Chefal and Cluekid to name a few.

D adds a little soul on ‘Snowed In’. Leaving us with Silkie’s tribute to his favourite festival with ‘Outlook’ and a beautifully fitting way to close the album.

IBR007 – Migrant – Exit Plan EP – 12″ Vinyl
Iberian Records feature on their seventh release an EP from Migrant (aka 23Hz) who comes with three slabs of soundsystem funk and groovy vibes. “Limbic Sistim” kicks off proceedings with a building arrangement into a catchy vocal lick – all underpinned with tight beats and warm subs. “Acid Sumatra” works on a similar tip but ups the tribal and percussive pressure on a deeper insistent rub. Whilst “Pipe Club” brings some classic two-steppy flavours into the mix but cleverly reinforced with massive sub weight. These three tunes are taken from Migrants forthcoming album, also entitled “Exit Plan”. More Bass’n'Groove from the Lisbon and Barcelona based label that should find favour with the deeper end of both Dubstep and UK Funky scenes.’ Early support by Scratcha DVA, Ghosts on Tape, Kid606, Chrissy Muderbot, Cardopusher, Slackk, Mesak, Phaeleh, DeVille, Bunzer0, Throwing Snow.

CIV023 – Darling Farah – EXXY EP – 12″ Vinyl
Finish copy. EXXY: The first extended player from Detroit born, Adu Dhabi based, Teenage “One to Watch” Darling Farah. Four tracks of deep techno and future house with warmth and soul. Stripped down 5.a.m atmospherics, combine with distorted stabs, dub-like sub-bass and expertly cut vocals. EXXY is destined to make the floor move and propel its nineteen year old maker further into the spotlight. Originally from Detroit, Farah was born into this world with techno already sewn into his DNA. His later relocation to the U.A.E, which is one of the most club baron countries in the world and to a city that actually prohibits live music to be played in public, only further resolved the isolated Farah to embrace his musical heritage. EXXY opens with the eponymous title track. Synths stab over the desert wind and sparse percussion builds as ‘EXXY’ begins to jack. ‘Younger’ is understated yet tribal & anthemic. As it throbs & pulses the breathy chopped R’n'B vocal hook reverberates with the narrative of Farah’s own story. On the flip ‘Crown’ shows a maturity implausible for his years, Detroit flavoured techno stealthily delivered. The EP finishes with the futurism of ‘Show Me,’ where emotive distorted chords mix with fragments of haunting vocal soul. At sixteen Darling Farah was instrumental in developing an underground scene that resists the lockdown of the U.A.E’s mainstream culture and was applauded by “DJ” Mag’s Middle East Edition as a star in the making. Almost entirely cut off from western music, this new circle of producers had to rely on sharing music via the internet and performing at small secret house parties. Three years on Darling Farah is the living embodiment of an internet generation producer. Last October we glimpsed the first taste of Darling Farah in the shape of 12″ ‘Berline’, which was quickly followed by an appearance on the Truants Compilation alongside Brenmar amongst others. Darling Farah, born Kamau Baaqi is relocating again in September 2011, this time London beckons and access to so much of what he’s has been missing. With more releases on the way and an album scheduled there seems to be no limit to what this precocious young producer is capable of.

PL014 – Vesicle – We Are Lost EP – 12″ Vinyl
A true showcase of Vesicle’s creativity, versatility and dark bassline science, the We Are Lost EP contains 4 deep and dark Dubstep excursions and makes a strong case for this Finnish duo’s inclusion among the genre’s best and brightest of the new generation of sound visionaries. The title track ‘We Are Lost’ is a beautiful, dark anthem combining haunting vocals with live guitars, intricate melodies, precisiondrum programming and fat slabs of bass. The result is a well-rounded, catchy and melancholic masterpiece. ‘Smoke curls’ switches up the program, engulfing the listener in deliberately lo-fi sound fx and percussion whilst conjuring up deeply emotional, melodic bliss by juxtaposing a dusty piano with a soaring, distorted, filtered leadline of 8-bit chiptune charme. Destined to become a dark breakstep anthem, ‘Mythos’ harks back to the late 90′s Metalheadz sound with its epic synthlines, eery vocals and massive, growling Reece bass constructions.’Redemption’ completes this vicious circle with a journey to the depths of darkness, attesting to Vesicle’s true mastery of uniquely filthy bassline construction on this stripped-down vision of despair. To ensure that this EP looks as mindblowingly sick as it sounds, the vinyl release features stunning, limited-edition full sleeve artwork!

Onwards and upwards for the Section8 clan as they get ready to deliver possibly their biggest release to date with a mighty, thunderous dubstep assault from one of Bristol’s brightest up & coming production duos, Dodge & Fuski. Having built up quite a reputation already with some killer releases on labels such as Never Say Die and Rat, this one looks set to earn them even more attention; get ready for the sound system bangers! Ethereal pads open up ‘Aerophobia’ before an epic, grandiose synth enters the mix to set the scene for what’s to come and you’d better be ready because it’s quite simply, sick! HRMN016 – Various Artists – Harmonia Family Album – 12″ Vinyl x 2
Finish copy. Spring 2006 was both cruel and exciting. Radiating hot Helsinki nights, too much light and vivid, restless dreams about Music. While chucking down a glass of cheap brandy in a local bar the idea finally materialised: Let’s start a record label! A label that would bring people together. Proud people. People thinking of Music. People doing their own thing in their own way in their own basements. And most importantly, people who understood the meaning of space between notes. After 5 years, 16 records, 85 tracks and 44 artists from 13 countries it goes without saying that those restless dreams became reality. And so did the Music. HARMONIA FAMILY ALBUM includes 12 artists from 7 countries giving their own interpretations of skweee, the synthetic Scandinavian funk. This double album features both skweee -innovators and brilliant second generation rookies like Finnish dub specialist Levon Zoltar and Japanese child prodigy Neo Hetare. The process of compiling these twelve tracks took more than six months, since each track was carefully handpicked from a selection of more than hundred songs from around the world. Harmonia’s previous ‘Skandinavian Skweee Vol. I &II’ and ‘International Skweee Vol. I&II’ -compilations were immediately sold out after release and nowadays go up to 100 euros on internet. Because skweee owes so much to the so-called world music, we thought of taking the whole thing to the next level and asked our artists to make their own versions of ‘ethnic’ music. As you will soon hear, the idea took off like a lazer beam in an Ethiopian desert. The results are breathtaking: music so contemporary yet still so archaic! It gives a great deal of pleasure to the listener to hover through the native American mantras of BMMB’s Huuhka-Eno, tribal chanting of Ransta Congregate and slavic p-funk of Eero Johannes. Viva Harmonia!
